En junio de este año la comunidad universitaria se alertó cuando la alcaldesa Claudia López pidió la intervención de la fuerza pública dentro del campus de la Universidad Nacional, la autonomía universitaria se vio transgredida y los estudiantes, que se encontraban en medio de manifestaciones, rechazaron rotundamente la decisión. Y es que a lo largo de la historia, el ingreso de la policía al campus siempre ha sido polémico y, de alguna manera, transgresor; de pronto por la fuerte memoria universitaria de los hechos del 16 de mayo de 1984, el día que la policía asesinó estudiantes dentro del campus, específicamente en las residencias estudiantiles, un caso que resonó dentro de toda la comunidad universitaria. Sin embargo, se suelen pasar por alto las más recientes ocasiones en que el campus ha permitido el ingreso de la fuerza pública. En esta fotografía del 2012 recordamos los rezagos del paro estudiantil de octubre 2011, en rechazo a la Reforma a la Educación Superior presentada por el gobierno nacional: en la semana de inducción de febrero del 2012, un grupo de encapuchados inauguraron el inicio del año académico con una serie de manifestaciones que terminaron con el desalojo del campus y la entrada (a la fuerza) del ESMAD, aunque todo el año se caracterizó por fuertes enfrentamientos entre los encapuchados y la policía, por ejemplo, en mayo del mismo año, el ESMAD una vez más intentó ingresar con 5 tanquetas luego de una orden de desalojo, solamente en esta ocasión se observó el repliegue de uniformados dentro de la ciudad universitaria.

La imagen es llamativa, no solo por ser inusual, sino porque la toma de la Plaza Che representa la reclamación del espacio por parte de la policía y significa un reto directo al movimiento estudiantil que se identifica con la imagen del Che Guevara. Esto nos ayuda a plantear una pregunta: ¿por qué las fotografías frente al Che son tan significativas? La sociedad bogotana, e incluso nacional, sin haber puesto un pie en el campus, reconocen la silueta en la fachada del auditorio León de Greiff, esta exposición y apropiación del espacio la relaciono directamente con la tradición estudiantil de tomarse una foto con el diploma de grado, es una manera de decir: estamos aquí y conquistamos; en los mismos términos analizo la fotografía anteriormente expuesta.

Footy's Forgotten #2: Emil Kostadinov

Emil Kostadinov was a winger & striker, who played between 1985 & 1999 for the likes of CSKA Sofia, FC Porto, Bayern Munich, & Fenerbahçe, amongst others.

Born on August 12th, 1967 in Sofia, Bulgaria, he started his career at CSKA Sofia, making his debut in 1985. At CSKA Sofia, he became part of an attack, which also contained Hristo Stoichkov & Lyuboslav Penev, which won 3 Bulgarian A Group titles & 3 Bulgarian Cups, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the 1988-89 UEFA Cup Winners Cup, where they lost to FC Barcelona.

In 1990, Kostadinov joined Portuguese side FC Porto, where he spent 4 years, scoring 43 goals in 114 games. At Porto, he won 3 Primera Liga titles, 2 Taca de Portugal, and helped them reach the semi-final of the 1993-94 UEFA Champions League, where again, he lost against FC Barcelona.

He would join Deportivo La Coruna for 9 games in 1995, before joining Bayern Munich. In his only season there, he helped them finish 2nd in the Bundesliga, as well as scoring a goal in the 1995-96 UEFA Cup Final, as they beat Bordeaux.

Once the season concluded, he joined Fenerbahçe for a season, where he scored 11 goals in 25 games, as they finished 3rd in the Turkish Super Lig.

Afterwards, he played for UNAL, returned briefly to CSKA Sofia, and Mainz 05, before retiring in 1999.

On the international stage, Kostadinov was capped 70 times for the Bulgarian national team, scoring 23 goals, the most notable of which being 2 in a 2-1 win against France, which eliminated them from 1994 World Cup qualifying. He would go on to play for Bulgaria at both the 1994 & 1998 FIFA World Cup, as well as Euro 1996, helping Bulgaria finish 4th in 1994.

realised yesterday just how often hozier actually used to sing about being not quite alive, not feeling like a person, about loving someone in a way that defies death and made him more alive, about suffering death for love. it's like he was constantly being buried underground and unearthed by love, over and over, which, while romantic in a way, is also incredibly sad. but i think it's interesting how his latest album (literally called 'unreal unearth') takes this idea and makes it its central theme. that's what this album is, one man's descent into the underworld. except, crucially, he makes it to the other side, and ends the album saying the darkness will come again, but this time he is "never going back [to hell] again." it feels like such a full-circle moment considering the rest of his discography and i'm so very excited to see what comes after this

El 20 de Noviembre del 2014, dos años después de iniciados los diálogos de paz entre las FARC y el gobierno Santos, en el corazón de la Universidad Nacional, se celebraron los 50 años de la guerrilla más grande de Colombia y más antigua de América Latina. Al lado de la imagen del Che, caen 4 banderas con la frase "50 años siendo Ejército del Pueblo", bajo las banderas y la imagen hay una frase que dice “Con memoria hay historia. Con olvido hay interferencia por la indiferencia. Morimos cuando olvidamos”. Hay rostros en las banderas, correspondientes de izquierda a derecha: Camilo Torres, Manuel Marulanda, Raúl Reyes, el Mono Jojoy, Jacobo Arenas (en duda), Alfonso Cano.

Tras fuertes disturbios y una tarde llena de desconcierto y sorpresa para la comunidad universitaria, fueron decomisados artefactos explosivos, que no permitieron que la situación escalara más allá de problemas con la movilidad a la altura de la calle 26 y los frecuentes enfrentamientos con la fuerza pública en el campus universitario.
