hot take that’s not really a hot take: s3 mike is just the less palatable version of mike. he’s mike when he’s lost (and so is s4 mike). people can’t handle when mike isn’t perfect or doesn’t maintain a facade of niceness because all the other characters are so selfless and kind. they can’t accept that mike is the most real character on stranger things because he isn’t nice most of the time, and sometimes he’s selfish without meaning to be. they can’t accept that he’s the most accurate depiction of a real person.

She gives you the back of one of the papers and reads out a list of places for you to write down while she crosses them off the map. She keeps that paper for herself, draws the same jerky sigil on the back of the map, and tells you to take it.

It's an unspoken agreement that Deema will take the cart with Moss. You flip your hood up against the wind and rain and start for your first location without looking back.

As you walk you look at your paper. You're not great at drawing large circles, which will weaken the sigil, so you'll need to draw the heat sigil a bit smaller than Deema would to compensate. You'll keep the wind sigils between the spokes as big as the space between them allow - you want the breeze to be as gentle as you can.

An awning shelters you from the rain at your first location. You stare at the wall and realise you have a problem you weren't anticipating: all the sigils you've drawn so far have been simpler, smaller, and drawn flat on the ground.

In an effort to get used to the movement you mime drawing circles on the wall for so long the rain stops. You sigh hopelessly and settle for all but connecting a series of dots to make a circle. You wonder if other witches will find this impressive, or whatever the council's hoping for.

After you feel a gentle warmth blow against your hands and face you move on to the next location. Drawing the sigil for a second time only feels slightly easier. By the time you finish your third you've settled into a rhythm connecting dots with arcs to make circles and drawing even spokes around them.

Your mind drifts off to Lex's request. They said a graveyard witch had come in the other day - that must be the one who came with Hakim. He mentioned one of his party was a graveyard witch but didn't say who it was. It might be the one who was dressed head to toe in black with metal rings on her belts, but for all you know that's an offensive stereotype.

It’s like… you’ve heard each other get in fights on the phone and know all the tea. You don’t reliably know each others last names. You know all the books they own. You don’t know if they have siblings. You’ve baked a cake together. You’ve gone three weeks without speaking. You’ve heard them crying in the middle of the night. Idk it’s just. It’s a weird little makeshift household. It’s a ‘hope classes went well’ when you get home and a ‘you really annoy me sometimes’ text six hours later. It’s decorating a shopping cart together for Christmas and then a comment that they didn’t realize you actually weren’t there for Christmas.

Idk it’s just crazy to think that these are the people I live with. We met when we moved in, we’ll part ways when we move out, and our paths are unlikely to ever cross again. But we share a home, for now. It’s just all a little strange.
