A part 2 to this post kind of
Maybe Evan's been clinging onto the Diaz family a lot lately. Taking Christopher out more, coming over to spend time with Eddie under the guise of a concerned friend just to make sure Eddie was still alive, still there. Maybe he was being a little over bearing, a little too present in their lives, but can you really blame him when Eddie has almost died on him twice-
Okay, so maybe he needed the reality check from Eddie more than he thought.
It's just that- It's-
...Maddie isn't answering his calls. Chimney isn't answering his calls. His parents, not that he'd want to talk to them more than he had to anyway,, are across the country. Any time he sees Ji-Yun is through pictures sent to Hen, not uncle Buck, and things with Taylor are...
Things with Taylor aren't going well. He doesn't think their relationship is going to work out much longer. And it's mostly his fault. This happens with every relationship he has- he sees them get bored of him, sees them start to pull away and wait for him to cut the cord. He feels bad for stringing her along as long as he has; he's seen it coming for months now, but at least this way he isn't alone. He's been alone a hell of a lot lately, and he thinks if he has to do it anymore he'll go crazy, so yeah. He's been a bit clingy. Eddie never seemed to care before.
So why'd it change?
Evan pretends like nothing is wrong the rest of their shift. He avoids Eddie as best he can, but he doesn't shut down like he usually would. He has a job to do, and he's not going to let anything like being yelled at a little bit get him off his game. And maybe he gets on Ravi a bit more than he should, but that's just how it goes. He'll get the probie some food or something after they clock out and he'll forget all about it.
Evan tries to forget too. He takes Ravi out for breakfast, goes on a run once they're finished, and takes as long of a shower as he can without feeling guilty before the silence around him finally settles in. Taylor is working. Bank robbery. She'll record her segments about it to be played on the 10 o'clock news; probably won't be available until five. Which is....jesus. Six hours from. Now.
Well, I could call up Chim and Maddie, see if they want a babysi-
He takes a deep breath. Thinks of something else to do. He can't go over to Bobby and Athena's, they have plans. Hen is in class, more than likely. Ravi said at breakfast that he wanted to "sleep like the dead" for the next ten hours, and, honestly if Evan could do the same he would. After a long 48 hour shift, he usually can. But this morning he just can't settle down. Even with the blinds drawn as tight as they go, he can't.
He's not your kid, Buckley.
What the hell made Eddie snap like that? He thought they were cool. Eddie has been so on edge with his break-up with Ana, and Evan was just trying to lighten the load, not make it harder- did he make things worse somehow? Did Eddie not want him around? Did Christopher not want him around?
With a groan, Buck pulls a pillow from underneath his exhaustion-heavy frame and throws it over the railing of his loft.
He's not your kid. Get over it.
So why did he feel so bad thinking that?
