Let's talk about what Winner's Theory means for the next season of Life SMP, and what we could see depending on who wins Secret Life.
Disclaimer: I know this is just a theory and they don't actually base the new games off of the winners of the previous season, but that's the fun of theorizing.
Etho - Underselling himself, no longer the best at PVP, but with a long legacy of obliterating all competition in death games. Loyal to a fault to his team, with no expectations from them in return. A bit similar to how Scott plays in terms of his alliances, but more likely to be hostile towards others outside of his group. We could see another season similar to Double Life, with game-mechanic incentive to keep your teammates safe at all cost.
Cleo - Similar to Etho, but with a lot more arson. She's also loyal to her team, but if anyone crosses her they will be her biggest target, regardless of a previous alliance. You cannot betray Cleo without life altering consequences. You get one chance and then it's over. I would expect something that will be ruthless and unforgiving if you make the wrong move. Something that feels like stepping on eggshells.
Sidenote: Cleo is the only member of the Divorce Quartet without a win so far, and it would really tickle me if this was her season.
Joel - He's a leader, but also distant from his pack. Only one in his alliance to live outside their walls. First one on yellow. Started a cult. He's with them but he's also with himself. His game is vengeance, for Lizzie, for Jimmy, for Mumbo. His season will be brutal. It will start out brutal and it will end brutally. Players will be picking themselves up from the floor the minute they spawn in. Imagine a season where everyone starts in the Nether. That's Joel's revenge.
Bigb - You thought Cleo was gaslight? This man can pack some fire in his words. And what a season for it! His alliance is pretty much doomed, trying to pull themselves out of the wreckage, but he's got plans that go beyond Skizz and Tango. Right from the get-go with his first task he's marked as the odd one out. He gives out lies like they're candy, and not just for his own preservation, but for FUN. His winner's season will be built on chaos, not knowing where you stand among everyone else, and rewarded for tricking and betraying others. This will be the return of the Boogeyman.
Gem - Big risks, big rewards, bigger fury. The newest member of the series and defying all odds to earn her place in victory, in her season players will face challenges they've never seen before, but will be stronger beyond measure if they come out alive on the other end. Regardless of which life you're on, you'll have just as much chance of winning right up to the end, but the victor must be prepared to risk it all for their spot of glory. This will not be a season to shrink back from and make logical plans before acting. One must have quick feet.
Impulse - Almost the opposite of Gem, Impulse has taken his time, patience is his virtue. He's been so close to winning, but he'll know when the time is right to strike. He'll do whatever it takes, but it will be intentional and planned. I anticipate his season will be one with rough terrain, similar to the big rift in the middle of the Double Life map dividing everyone across a chasm. Reaching other players will be treacherous by foot, but ripe for planning elaborate traps and schemes to secure the win. Most certainly players will need to work hard for it.
Scar - Lone wolves roam free! He's been forced to work for himself alone this season, and so far he's reaped plenty rewards! The next season will give players a motive to work alone, and they will have to build themselves up using their own ingenuity and wits. Making yourself look like an underdog will be vital, stealing will be even more necessary, and the world will be ripe for monopolies. It's a real war out there, and you can't trust anyone.

And now, a secondary HPHL quartet that no one, not even I, asked for:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this universe, only one of them has the Ancient Magic connection. The rest are special in their own ways. Introducing:
The MC: Persephone Malfoy
- Persephone follows the game's storyline almost perfectly. The main change is that she's a Malfoy, and thus has previous knowledge of the wizarding world. Her family originally thought she was a Squib (and hated her for it). Receiving her letter was an absolute shock, even for her, and even more surprising was how quickly she took to the magic that had refused her for so long. Being the failure middle child, Persephone has grown to be a bit of a callous bitch, but she also bonds quickly with anyone that could be considered an underdog or anyone who ignores her family name when speaking with her. Her pink hair is not natural - she was born with the well-known Malfoy platinum - but instead dyed with muggle hair dye, a "nasty habit" she's had for a few years now. Being sorted into Gryffindor unlike her siblings is one of her greatest achievements. Her parents are furious, and that's just the way she likes them. Seph's not used to being a leader, but she quickly discovers that she's damn good at it. @autisticarachnid she's the one I asked for your advice for a while ago!
Wohali Hopkins
- Listen. I had a bizarre dream a while ago about the HP universe and for some reason, my subconscious gave me some new lore: purple people. The image shown of Wohali isn't entirely accurate - his skin should be purple too. Here's the lore: in pureblood families, a child could randomly be born completely purple. These purple babies are seen as (in this era) a sign of perfectly pure blood; the absolute pinnacle of wizardkind. Purple witches and wizards usually had much more powerful and advanced magic, and were capable of doing things all others could not. Wohali is half Native American on his mother's side and grew up in the US, but he was sent to Hogwarts in his second year because his father didn't think that Ilvermorny was treating him with the proper reverence, aka, special treatment. You'd think Wohali would be a dick with a dad like that, but he actually hates his dad and doesn't want that sort of attention - but like a true Slytherin, he will use it to his advantage.
Alistair Royce
- I made this guy for one reason and one reason only: Leander Prewett. I didn't mean to, but I ended up a little obsessed with the idiot and needed a suave oc to make him trip over his own feet, so here he is. Alistair is an openly gay, very flirty Quidditch star who happens to have his eyes set on this absolute fucking loser (affectionate). Besides that, he's a total closet nerd - he takes Arithmancy and Ancient Runes of his own free will and has been begging for the option to take Alchemy since third year. He's teaching himself some of the most difficult types of magic in his free time. Why is Al a Hufflepuff if he's so intelligent? Simple: lack of motivation. He's one of the smartest wizards in the entire school, but he struggles to pay attention in class unless it's actually challenging, and because of Quidditch he fails to study and do his homework a lot of the time. Plus, he's one of the most outgoing guys around. He finds spending time with his friends and enjoying life far more important than his grades.
Gloria Ulbinn
- Gloria was made to round out the quartet. I had nothing for her for the longest time other than a vague idea of her appearance, but I finally figured it out. Gloria is a nosy girl who knows things about people. She can make anyone obsessed with her, or hate her, or plague them with nightmares they can't escape, because she's a Dreamwalker. Dream magic is incredibly difficult and under-studied as a subject in the Wizarding World, but since her birth she's been able to appear in people's dreams and influence them. She's never actually had a dream of her own. This ability is incredibly useful in some ways, but it's also her darkest secret. Since she can't not enter someone's dream each night, her presence tends to screw with a person's subconscious. Once, she got someone addicted to her, and if she didn't enter their dreams they'd wake up screaming in a cold sweat - and it can go the other way, too. She's nice! Just... maybe sleep with one eye open.

Ranking potential 100th episode redo songs based on how much sense they would have made
Tumblr media
Thanks to The Wrap we still have the list of 30 songs fans could vote on for the cast to redo in the 100th Glee episode. Now I don’t think this was the way to go and fans should have only voted on, like, 3 songs, but ~9 years later here I am to fully criticize it.
Needed to happen
1. Don’t Stop Believin’
Let’s just get it out of the way. Obviously. Obviously this was the right choice and they did it well in the episode.
2. Landslide
Are you KIDDING ME that this was an option and fans didn’t choose it imma travel back to late 2013 and THROW HANDS. Jail, jail for all who voted. Jail for a thousand years, I can’t even look at you. You choose Valerie, a song that was already perfectly fine as a Santana solo and had no emotional significance in-universe, over a potential Holly-less revisit of Landslide? I hate you all. Anyway my thoughts on what should have happened are well-advertised.
3. Born This Way
Imo this should have been the group number of the first half. But crucially, with the newbies getting big roles since that’s the point of a redo. Sadly the newbies got paid dust in the two-parter so I doubt they would have gotten to sing on this but after DSB it’s the closest we get to a fitting anthem for the group and so it’s my choice for top 3.
Yeah I can see it
4. My Life Would Suck Without You
After Born This Way we just get a bunch of other potential group numbers but crucially I would have only wanted any two out of these, tops. This song comes in fourth because of how fun the original is and how I wish we got a choreo retrospective later on as well. The OG summed up the first 13 so well and a similar look through the eras could have been fun. And this time around it wouldn’t be a quasi Rachel solo. I would have loved to hear Marley on this.
5. Loser Like Me
I find the original one really rather cringe what with Finn singing half of the underdog anthem, and most of you know I have complex feelings on the underdog themes anyway. The only reason this is so high is because I like what they ended up doing with it in 5x13. In fact I much prefer that acoustic version and again I wish the newbies could have been involved but it’s a sweet moment for the senior quartet.
6. We Are Young
I’m biased because this is one of my very fave ND numbers but I think it could have been an appropriate one to revisit. I’m not sure how different a new take could have been but obviously we need different solo distributions and bonus points if we have a mirror held up to the Pezberry moment from the original. The club is all happy and coming together and Rachel almost reaches for Santana’s hand like she did last time but then remembers they’re still feuding. Yes yes delicious.
7. Somebody to Love
Arguably one of the most important group numbers and something that could have been ripe for revisiting. Just because of the tone of the song it’s not the best group number choice but it could even be a tribute to Finn. Maybe a bit redundant to have both this and DSB.
8. Keep Holding On
I’m fine with reprising this in theory and even prefer Puck’s version on most days. I also like how both version are tied to Quinn. But I just have this bias against the original for Finchel and general s1 frustrations reasons and don’t think what they did with it in 100 was all that original. It was okay and I’m glad it made it over other songs but eh. Could have done without it.
9. Lean On Me
Similar situation to Keep Holding On and I might only be ranking it lower because this one didn’t make it. But I can see it happening though in context we’d need to tweak things to make it work.
10. Somewhere Only We Know
Hesitating about that because I really don’t think they should have redone Warbler songs for a variety of reasons. This one feels so personal to Blaine and Kurt that it would almost feel inappropriate to redo and give the new context of the whole club but at least as a song it would fit. A real teary eyed rendition. Again, my preference is as a group number.
11. Get It Right
It’s on thin ice but depending on execution I could see it. Definitely should not be a solo but tied to different storylines, preferably somehow to the Pezberry feud and Quinn’s existential crisis.
Maybe
12. Like a Prayer
These are all biiig maybes because again you only need so many group numbers and very few should have been duets or solos. But can’t lie, Like a Prayer is probably the song I wish Santana had been featured on so I’d be willing to ignore story context to hear her on it. Also has all the group number perks of songs mentioned above.
13. Defying Gravity
Eh, not a huge fan of this having been featured except for Mercedes also getting to sing it. But I don’t see a reason why we needed another two solo version from Kurt and Rachel and the Jonesberry conflict they squeeze in to justify this is not only forced but leads to one of my least fav scenes. It’s okay, they sound good, I get the significance. It’s an eh.
14. Dog Days Are Over
This is our first one where I really am just like, why mess with perfection? It was perfectly good as a Mertina duet and if we don’t have them repeat it that’s rude, and if yes I’m not sure what the new twist could be. Not saying it had no potential but I think it’s one of those cases where the OG is good enough.
15. Toxic
Apart from being the greatest song in existence there was no reason to redo it. The OG had no huge story or emotional significance. BUT, the execution of the revisit was much better than anything I could have anticipated. It’s here in the middle because truth to be told, as much as I am a hardcore Toxic fan I would not have voted for it. Am I glad Toxic s5 exists? Omg, hell yeah. But I think if we take horny reasons out of the equation there’s not much left there. The UHT are iconic but how about we give them some friendship scenes instead. Can’t believe I’m coming across as a Toxic s5 anti lmaooo to be clear I am very, very happy we have this performance. I just have to also think outside the horny box.
16. Bad Romance
So again, why mess with perfection. I don’t see a need to redo it, not with a different context and definitely not with different singers. If we want to revisit a Lady Gaga song, do Born This Way.
17. Bust Your Windows
Why mess with perfection coupled with a plain...why? It’s only a maybe because it is a better option than the songs in the last category but honestly, barely. I don’t see a context where I would have needed a rehash of this.
18. Valerie
Sigh, okay, so do I mind that we have a Brittana duet version of Valerie? Of course not. And I think the context the writers came up with is actually really good and sweet and the Brittana fan in me loves that. But we didn’t need another Valerie. Heather keeps up with Naya on it and the dancing with Jake and Mike is fun. But we simply did not need Valerie again. I’d like to highlight the why mess with perfection point again, as well as pointing out how Valerie had no in-universe significance. In the fandom, it’s Santana’s signature solo but it’s just not backed up in universe with that significance. Again, they made a cute Brittana moment out of it but I’ll die on the hill that this duet should have been landslide. Or rather, I’ll die on the snow covered hills amiright.
19. Forget You
Wow this is really, really thin ice now. It might slip on a banana peel right down to the bottom category. I don’t know what the concept would have been but we don’t need Miss Goop to do it again so I can only think of a big (actual) group number and again, the newbies featured. It just didn’t have the weight of the other group numbers though. A big, big big maaaybe. I guess if we have to have Goop sing.
Who would want this
20. Dream On
Who thought this should be revisited? And I like this GCV but I don’t think to myself, man I wish the Glee Club did Dream On. Several people would have sounded great on it but that’s not enough to hit my criteria.
21. Gives You Hell
What a baffling choice. Particularly in season 5 where Finn’s passing casts a shadow on everything. Once again, maaaybe for the newbies but why would they care for this song.
Actually, it’s mostly the same for the remaining songs. We didn’t need revisits, they weren’t that iconic and held little overall significance:
22. Safety Dance
23. Sweet Caroline
24. Raise Your Glass (I can’t believe this one made it as the group number of 100 omg that’s so mad, why would ND care about a random Warblers song)
25. Take a Bow (WHO wanted this)
26. Hey, Soul Sister
27. Telephone (why?)
28. Total Eclipse of the Heart (I’m glad it was cut)
29. Imagine (no no, no thank you)
30. Roar (are you KIDDING why would they revisit something they performed 5 minutes ago)

Spinning Gold
2023.17
Neil Bogart is not exactly a household name, but writer-director Timothy Scott Bogart has spent years putting together this biopic. You may have noticed that both the filmmaker and the subject have the same last name; Neil was Timothy’s father. So this was a real labor of love. Sadly though, it’s just not a good movie.
The elder Bogart is most known for founding Casblanca Records in the early 70s. The first act he signed to his label was a quartet of hungry young musicians from New York who dressed in funny costumes and makeup and called themselves KISS. Casablanca would also go on to be the premier distributors of Disco music later in the decade, with both Donna Summer and the Village People among its roster of artists. Despite this pedigree, Casablanca wasn’t an instant success and was millions of dollars in debt before things turned around. Bogart’s early struggles are the driving force of the movie.
The problem is things get boring and repetitive, as every new idea Bogart comes up with fails to take him to the next level. He’s also not a particularly fascinating character, so there’s nothing to really root for. Raised in relative poverty in the Brooklyn ghetto, this should be a real underdog story about a kid who grows up to achieve his dreams. But I just couldn’t find anything to grab onto to make me root for this guy. It doesn’t help that the whole thing feels like a really bad made-for-VH1 movie rather than an actual theatrical release.
Some of the storytelling in particular bugged the shit out of me. There’s a scene about halfway through where Bogart is watching KISS perform and the crowd is going CRAZY for them. You can see the wheels spinning in his head as he says “when people see them, they love them…but why aren’t they buying their records?” As a fan of KISS, I know what’s coming. In 1975, Bogart rolled the dice and released “Alive!”, widely considered one of the greatest live albums of all time. It captured the essence of KISS on vinyl for the first time, after their first three studio albums failed to make a dent. It became a smash, catapulted KISS into superstardom, and is generally credited for saving Casablanca Records and turning the business around. But then…after this epiphany occurs onscreen….nothing happens. Why the fuck isn’t this idea followed up on? It’s what happened in real life, so why show the genesis and then not make it part of the story??? It’s incredibly bad filmmaking, and just one of many examples like this scattered throughout the movie. Save your money.

The Beagles - Here Come the Beagles (Columbia-Harmony, 1967) - Design by the Total Television studio
Woof, do I have a lot to talk about here.
The Beagles was an animated series that aired on CBS in 1966, produced by Total Television. If that name sounds familiar, they're the same studio that produced King Leonardo, Tennessee Tuxedo, and more famously, Underdog. As the show name implies, it's a cheap parody of The Beatles. Interestingly, the show aired around the same time as the final season of the namesake band's own cartoon (you didn't know the Fab Four had a cartoon? They had everything!).
This album is the only proof of the show's existence. One of the co-creators said the show's editing materials were accidentally thrown out by the widow of the show's lead editor, which presumably included the film prints of each episode. I've heard that original negatives and audio tracks of the show were discovered in a warehouse in the late '90s, but I have yet to verify that.
By the way, the namesake Beagles were a duo instead of a quartet, named Stringer and Tubby. Stringer was a Dean Martin-esque guitarist while Tubby was a Jerry Lewis-esque bassist. Funny, since Martin and Lewis' music is nothing like the Beatles.

Meet The Shot Blast Media Team: Our Favourite Movies
The Shot Blast Media team are a small, experienced and captivated team who are incredibly passionate about bringing creativity to the video production industry. In this blog , you will learn about the team’s favourite movies, why they enjoy working in the video production industry, and a little bit more about their career background! Lotty Wiltshaw , Director, formed Shot Blast Media in 2012 with one purpose in mind: to produce corporate videos that would go above and beyond a simple portrayal of what her clients do. Lotty specialises in creative storytelling by using a multitude of skills acquired over a career which spans many years in video creation & production. Lotty’s previous years of experience working across Television Production for the BBC has also helped push her creative production skills forward as Director at Shot Blast Media. When she’s not working, she loves adventures. Lotty is always looking for a new city or country to explore, taking in the scenery, enjoying the food and getting involved with the local arts and music, as well as spending quality time with her family. What is your favourite film? My favourite film is Shawshank Redemption. It’s a fantastic story. Very moving with compelling characters and sends out a message of hope. Well written, well acted and well filmed too. All round perfect movie in my eyes. What do you like about working in the video production industry? We get to tell lots of stories, our own and other peoples whilst getting behind the scenes of businesses and seeing things we don’t often get to see. That’s exciting! Steph Taylor , Sales & Business Development Manager, has more than 14 years of experience working across sales and business development in a variety of large corporations, such as Experian and Virgin Pulse. Steph joined Shot Blast Media in 2023, and works towards promoting our video production packages and other popular video services. What is your favourite film? My favourite film is Shawshank redemption because the story is gripping yet heartwarming. The main character alongside Morgan Freeman works so well and I love a happy ending. I do enjoy a good underdog story so my second favourite is Erin Brockovich. What do you like about working in the video production industry? Early days into my experience here at SBM, I enjoy supporting companies to bring their products and culture to life via video production. Video’s tell the story so well, bringing creativity and personality together. Short, snappy and engaging!! David Mead , Camera Operator and Editor, is an accomplished and innovative filmmaker with 20 years of experience, specialising in video editing, camera operating and directing. He has been working with Shot Blast Media for the past 6 years, bringing to life every client brief, from script to screen projects of all shapes and sizes. What is your favourite film? I hate this question! So lets put a spin on it, what’s the 1 desert island disc I would take… The Simpsons Season 5. The peak of the golden era! I’ve seen all these episodes countless times, the opening 5 episodes are all 10/10, it’s hard to find another 5 in a row this good. Homer’s Barbershop Quartet, Cape Feare, Homer Goes to College, Rosebud and the best, Treehouse of Horror IV, including the segment Terror at 5 and half feet, where a Gremlin attacks the school bus. This was the inspiration for a short film I made with a puppet and CGI Gremlin a few years ago called Turn Around When Possible, which had over 2 million views. Go check it out! This series also includes my favourite all time episode. Boy Scoutz ‘n the Hood. I could recite the entire script for you if you wanted. It’s just one hilarious gag after another. Homer is in fine form. GET ME 700 KRUSTY BURGERS! The Simpsons in general has always been one of my favourite things to watch (only season 3-9, that story is for a different day). Huge sense of nostalgia with every watch. Themes of family values mixed with a bit over the top mayhem with countless brilliant characters is just bliss. What do you like about working in the video production industry? Going to all sorts of places and meeting all sorts of people. Every week is different which keeps everyone on their toes. I’ve travelled to places far and wide across the UK, Europe and North America on projects. Places I would have never gone doing another job. Getting to use new equipment is always fun and finding ways to make each project better than the last. Maddy Goddard , Marketing Executive, works to bring creativity to Shot Blast Media’s social channels. She graduated from the University of Leeds in 2021 with a degree in Film, Photography and Media, and her years of experience in the marketing industry means she is ideally focused on brand awareness and lead generation for the business. Maddy previously worked in Marketing for various recruitment firms across Leeds, and was extremely excited to start her role within her dream industry; video production. What is your favourite film? I would have to say that Madagascar is my favourite film. Madagascar 2 is a pretty close second though… It’s my go-to film on my birthday and it never fails to make me laugh. I also cannot wait to watch the stage musical of Madagascar soon…. Some may say that this is a kids film, however these people would be WRONG. What do you like about working in the video production industry? I have wanted to work in the video industry since I was in school, so it’s fantastic that I’ve been able to fulfil that dream. I absolutely love working in this industry. There is something different happening every week and I’ve learnt a whole bunch of new filmmaking skills since working at Shot Blast Media. Byron Sheldon , Camera Operator and Editor, joined Shot Blast Media after finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Filmmaking from Leeds Beckett University in 2022. Byron focuses on working on the company’s monthly video subscription service, in which he films and edits unique and memorable videos for a range of businesses across Yorkshire. What is your favourite film? Hot Fuzz holds a special place in my heart, and it’s no surprise why. I’m a massive fan of the dynamic duo, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Their comedic brilliance and on-screen chemistry have never failed to put a smile on my face! And let’s not forget the icing on the cake – Edgar Wright, the genius director behind this cinematic gem. Here’s a fun tidbit about me: When I was younger, I dreamt of joining the police force! And that’s precisely why “Hot Fuzz” resonates so deeply with me. It’s a perfect blend of thrilling action and hilarious comedy, all within the context of law enforcement. Watching the film brings back memories of my childhood aspiration and sparks a sense of adventure every time! What do you like about working in the video production industry? One day, you might find us delving 100 metres underground, capturing breathtaking shots in unexpected locations. The next day, we could be perched on majestic mountaintops, filming electric trucks zooming by! This industry brings with it an exciting mix of challenges and endless possibilities, allowing me to bring my creative vision to life in ways they never imagined. Let us know what your favourite film is! Find out more about the Shot Blast Media team . Learn more about our video services .

Only 6 Players Can Be Major Champions Again at IEM Rio
Tumblr media
Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy, Valerii "b1t" Vakhovskyi, and Denis "electroNic" Sharipov are the four members of this group who play for Natus Vincere. Nearly a year after winning the PGL Stockholm Major in 2021, the Ukrainian-Russian quartet has the opportunity to win their second Major in Rio. Abai "HObbit" Hasenov of Cloud9 is also vying for his second Major championship, and Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson of Fnatic has a chance to add a third Major trophy to his collection. None of these teams and players will face each other in the quarterfinals, which will be played between Thursday, Nov. 10, and Friday, Nov. 11. KRIMZ and HObbit, however, can face each other for a spot in the grand finals on Saturday, Nov. 12 should Fnatic beat Outsiders and C9 defeat MOUZ on Thursday. The Major champion quartet of NAVI, on the other hand, can only meet KRIMZ or HObbit in the grand finals. While NAVI’s Major title is still recent in many fans’ memories, not everyone remembers HObbit won PGL Kraków Major in 2017 under the Gambit banner versus Immortals, in what was the grand finals of two underdogs. KRIMZ’s titles date back to the early days of CS:GO when Fnatic were dominating the scene with Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer in his prime. Fnatic’s Swedish lineup of KRIMZ, olofmeister, Jesper “JW” Wecksell, Robin “flusha” Rönnquist, and Markus “pronax” Wallsten won back-to-back Majors in 2015 (ESL One: Katowice and ESL One: Cologne). The single-elimination bracket of IEM Rio Major Champions Stage looks as follows: Bracket A - Cloud9 vs. MOUZ - Outsiders vs. Fnatic Bracket B - FURIA vs. NAVI - Heroic vs. Team Spirit Read the full article

[ad_1] Tech duopoly in-fighting -- like to see it. Google dropped a number of sick burns on longtime frenemy Apple throughout its Pixel event Thursday, the place the tech behemoth unveiled its Pixel 7 lineup and long-rumored Pixel Watch and teased a forthcoming dockable Pixel tablet -- and we're right here for it. Google's event livestream started with a enjoyable little bit of adver-tainment whereby a gaggle of musicians coordinated an impromptu digital jam session with a bit of assist from their Pixel phones, watches and earbuds. As the hip quartet got here collectively to make lovely music on the identical stage Google's executives had been about to look, I assumed for a second I used to be viewing one other Apple event. Is Google "cool" now? As an individual sitting right here with a Fitbit on my left wrist and a Pixel 6 to my proper, I'll disclose my bias and say, sure, completely cool. As an individual sitting right here counting the methods Google simply pulled a "How do you do, fellow kids?" I've to say… in all probability not. There was a man in my school dorm who needed nothing greater than to have associates cease by to hang around, however for no matter motive (he was type of bizarre, I assume) nobody ever knocked on his door. "I don't understand it," he stated. "I have food. And music!" That's principally Google.  The Pixel 7 (left) and the Pixel 7 Pro. Lisa Eadicicco/CNET To me, the Pixel 6 rocks, the Pixel Watch looks like a winner and Android 13 has a ton of great features to get enthusiastic about. But the Pixel brand has still only earned 2% of the North American market in comparison with the iPhone's 52%. Still, I really like an excellent underdog story, or no matter you name a software program big with a shaky hardware track record that additionally occurs to be one of many largest corporations on this planet. And I particularly get pleasure from it when that "underdog" is that this savage.Always-on show and lock display screen widgets: "We take it as a compliment when others in the industry follow our lead," Google's VP of Product Management Brian Rakowski stated on the Pixel 7 keynote, name-checking the Pixel's always-on show, lock display screen widgets and astrophotography. To paraphrase: But we have had these items for, like, ever! Apple notably simply added an always-on display to the iPhone 14 Pro and lock screen widgets in iOS 16, each previously -- checks watch -- month.Car-crash detection: Rakowski additionally identified Google introduced car-crash detection three years ago, earlier than it was cool -- earlier than it was a twinkle in the iPhone 14's eye. Major hipster vibes. The iPhone contains a flat edge.
Apple iPhone design: Google threw a bit of shade at Apple's design selections as nicely, usually subtweeting the iPhone's colors ("We don't just copy/paste one color we like across all of our products"), flat-edged slabular design ("Your phone and watch are designed to be personal, to be touched and worn … And they have smooth, rounded surfaces so they always feel right in your hand and on your wrist") and the Apple Watch's "prominent" exterior connectors ("You'll notice that the Pixel Watch doesn't have [them], like a lot of watches do").Photo Unblur: One of the Pixel 7's exciting new features is Photo Unblur, which Google says will sharpen blurry photographs, even outdated ones taken "on a phone or a camera that doesn't quite match the quality of a Pixel phone." Like, say, an iPhone? Just saying the quiet half out loud right here.RCS: The spiciest zinger got here from Google's requisite RCS plea. "RCS is the modern industry standard for messaging. And it's already been adopted by most of the industry," Rakowski stated, emphasizing fashionable and most. Note that RCS is definitely Google's personal expertise, not technically an trade commonplace (and not without its problems). Google's been attempting to make RCS occur since 2008, actually hijacking the green bubble shame story. "We hope every device-maker gets the message and adopts RCS, making texting better for every smartphone user," Rakowski added. To paraphrase: I'm as soon as once more asking you to assist Rich Communication Services!  CNET This isn't the primary time Google has known as out Apple for not "getting the message." In August, Google launched an entire Android campaign devoted to the trigger, this time express in its addressee. Google announced several enhancements to its Messages app earlier in 2022, a lot of which make texting a good friend with an iPhone a bit of nicer. But Apple doubled down on its proprietary messaging app in iOS 16, releasing new features like unsending a text that will not work when your recipient is staff Android. "Buy your mom an iPhone," sniffed Tim Cook. The blue/green bubble divide lives on. So a lot drama!I'd be remiss if I did not level out this underdog story isn't with out its plot twists: Google later introduced features for the Pixel phone lineup that it copied from Apple, like Cinematic Blur (or Cinematic Mode), 2x zoom and face unlock/Face ID. For extra Google Pixel coverage, take a look at everything Google announced, our first takes on the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel Watch, and relive the expertise with CNET's live blog. Masters 2018 odds: Complete list, Tiger Woods no longer betting favorite at Augusta
Masters 2018 odds: Complete list, Tiger Woods no longer betting favorite at Augusta
It was not that long ago that, following a wild few months, Tiger Woods went from a 100-1 underdog to win the 2018 Masters to the favorite. With the 2018 Masters just a day away, Tiger has settled behind the true Las Vegas favorites this year: Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson.  Woods still slides in at fifth behind that quartet and has better odds to win his first…
