!!!List of papyrus things!!!

(Update 3! mini update.)

For anyone who needs more info on the guy! Since you usually dont see alot of info about him!

A list of stuff thats just papyrus's tid bits i've collected overtime!

(Disclaimer: some things can be taken off of memory, though I did search most of the stuff up, so you dont have to worry too much. But if your feeling unsure, search it up! And correct me while your at it.)

his room doesn't play/have music.

(If you have reunited playing at enter his room, it'll disappear forever. Untill you go back and let it play again. Even without reunited, a song that plays no matter what room your in, doesn't play any music.)

Never takes off his battle body.

(According to sans, he only takes it off if he has no other choice too. Otherwise he'll just put clothes ontop of it, or just repaints it if needed. He does how ever, change his pants but never takes off the top.)

the minute "royal gaurd " is out of the picture, he's got nothing.

(It was the one thing he worked up for. When the royal gaurd disbands He says he "working hard on doing absolutely nothing". Then again this can be interpreted as papyrus does say he is working on something, despite not being a royal gaurd yet.)

He lies. (And can manipulate)

(Though he is really bad at lying, he seems to manipulate just fine, though its usually not out of malice. He gets undyne to befreind you by mentioning "challenge", which is a weakness of hers, since she never can turn down a challenge. And has lied about floweys name to her to. Has lied to sans or atleast mislead him about the things he knows about. Pretended he didn't know what a lab was during a call in hotland, but if you call him when sans isn't there, papyrus mentions the lab as if it was common knowledge instead of saying "Labrador-y?" As if he had no idea.)

Changes up his attacks

( if you get captured a few times, you see variation in his attacks. If you do it right, you can get him too skip half of his entire attack.)

Calls his own puzzles "Awful"

(This happens after battling papyrus, he says "WHO KNEW THAT ALL I NEEDED TO MAKE PALS... WAS TO GIVE PEOPLE AWFUL PUZZLES AND THEN FIGHT THEM??" This could be interpreted in many ways.)

Spikes, fire, traps, fencless bridges: are all safe for children, according to papyrus.

("EACH AREA HAS TO HAVE A PRECARIOUS BRIDGE" -bridge likely to collapse, dangerous. "ITS MANDATED BY THE GOVERNMENT. OF COURSE KING FLUFFYBOY WANTS TO UNMANDATE IT SAFER." "WHY?! WONT HE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!)

Has "talked" with asgore before.

(Sadly, asgore and papyrus has crossed paths. Asgore advises him not to but dangerous puzzles around town, for the children. Papyrus wants to put dangerous puzzles around town, for the children. This results in them bickering over saftey laws, with papyrus usually winning.)

Tried to start a flowey fan club

(On multiple occasions calls flowey "his best freind" and shows genuine love for the little guy. He even gave flowey a little red scarf to match his, during the 5th anniversary winter alarm clock.)

Has photo-graphic memory for phone calls.

-call in the room where undyne chased you. He seems nervous, or atleast stressed out during this call. I'll leave any and all interpretation to you.)

(Ps: papyrus has bad memory, but good photographic memory?)

His disliking for grease

(Says this during a call with undyne in grillby's place. Undyne says she loves grease, and he quickly dismisses his opinion in favor of hers. Of course, papyrus HAS visited grillbys before, as the dogamy and doggeressa mention him with sans. )

Calls alphys "great"

(During the first tile puzzle, he praises alphys by calling her "THE GREAT DR. ALPHYS" )

Knows about undynes crush on alphus

(He teases undyne a few times on this, leading to the "hot voice" and "audible wink" papyrus lines. He's not oblivious to the things around him, unless he chooses to be.)

Put limes in his eyes!

(Conversation in hotland! The guy thought limes where cucumbers and stuck them in his eyes. When. He thought it wasn't working he put more limes. It burned like hell but he says it was all to have "mettaton's bishoning eyes")

Knows about mtt's eyes

(Nobody seems to know that mettaton has eyes?! Undyne confirms this fact. Papyrus is the only one who outright mentions it.)

He got mettaton to do the tile puzzle thing

(FOR SOME UNEXPLAINED REASON- mettaton was the tile puzzle robot alphys built. The puzzle robot papyrus had during his own tile puzzle. Infact, during mettaton's tile puzzle in hotland, he says that you'd is this a few hundred rooms ago. If you call papyrus, he starts rambling on all the instructions again. Hehe.)

he likes dinosaur oatmeal

(According to the undertale tumblr, flowey response to "whats papyrus's favorite food?" Is DINOSAUR OATMEAL!! YAY!)

(For specifics, the quantum mechanics book with infinite books inside of it. It isn't specified who reads it, but both brothers should be capable as jokes and puns are not out of papyrus wardrobe.)

(Also known as "the punishment shed, doghouse, cpature zone, guest room, a garage" or undyne's pun which was "the coolshed". Ah, to be enriched by shed puns... Wonderful.)

(If he's the only one killed in a neutral run, even without undyne, a revolution will still occur. Look into it yourself if need be.)

(During the instance, where he talks to you after turning the light on in sans's room.)

Can't really tell when someones mad

(He couldn't tell when undyne was mad at him during a call. He asks us too.)

Doesn't watch anime.

(He thinks its like cartoons for babies. Jokes around with undyne for awhile before taking it all back once he knew she watched anime.-during one of the calls.)

Brutal kind of guy

(He says this himself, i don't exactly know WHY he thinks this of himself, but he does.)

(He has a book Its where his vast dictionary comes from.

Knows about the time and space manipulation tactics sans uses.

(HE KNOWS- HE MENTIONS IT WHEN HE TURNS ON THE LIGHT IN SANS'S ROOM!!)

(And he's right. Even if you kill him he still believes this, beacuse well.. Its true. Undyne wont forgive you and try to kill you, sans won't fight you, bht he's still right either way)

Knows about river person

(He asks about how river person is doing. No body seems to know about river person, and its unsure if undyne knows about their prescence.)

The days in his date scene (Monday, Tuesday, weekday, Thursday,e.c.t ) changes depending on your computer. Even though the date in undertale is always Monday.

(River person has a scheduled thing that matches up to your computer date as well, but this is about papyrus, not river person.)

Weird abilities

(Flying and super speedy twirling, flying backwards. He doesn't even hide it.)

He's pretty freaking tough!

(According to undyne, the person who defeated asgore.)

His "absolutely normal attack" is a giant cluster of bones.

(In theory, his attack could be the size of the entire area, including the giant bone at the end.)

Papyrus can lower the giant bone at the end of his "absolutely normal attack"

( Of course, it takes him awhile. He starts making puns, and tries to compare the words to pasta, and THEN comes to the conclusion that its left and right. Its Trail and error.-)

He pauses when speaking as a lost soul.

("I MUST CAPTURE A HUMAN! THEN EVERYONE WILL. ...." This is unusual as he is the only one that pauses. This can be interpreted, but it is rather interesting nonetheless)

Alright this is a bit more interpretive. Things may not be 100% facts down here.

Disclaimer: i will be putting "Interpretive" in red coloring for things that have may my interpretation or opinions in! Please do be mindful in your search, and take it with a grain of salt. It doesn't make it comepelty wrong, it has facts! Just muddled with oppinions.

( can be called interpretive: He always feels very unimportant, as if he doesn't actually matter. During a call in waterfall, with the puddle hallway, papyrus talks about not letting it "get to you" or something along the lines of that. Since undyne speaks from her experience with the puddles, then i'd assume papyrus would too.)

(I think its just a sign of self doubt or insecurity. Someone once said its dysphoria, which is a cool headcannon for paps or something. What ever it is, he has some demons that he doesn't want to let out.)

Forgetable.

( according to the genocide description)

( Interpretive: Other than that, he's not even noticable. Though, there are a few people that appreciate him, most dont really acknowledge him. Unless you kill him of course!)

Sad/depressed?

( interpreitive as well:Before the human showed up, sans explains how his brother was feeling quite down lately. We see a.. Happier side of papyrus through out our journey.. He vents out to us, the player/human, about things he dislikes, or troubles he faces. Hes like a froggit. Life is hard for a froggit.)

Smiles through things.

("This is where I tried to capture you! What a bad memory." -quote he says as he smiles through it all. He does have a sad emote, but so far i have only seen it during a call in hotland, where the CORE was shown. As your adventure is coming close.. To an end.)

Uses his playful "OUCH!" emote when you straight up kill him. Instead of his hurting/in pain emote when flowey catches him off guard before absorbing everyonesones souls.

(The reason is unkown, but that emote is normally associated with more of "light taps." Examples are, toriel's fireballs at asgore and flowey. Unless... Cutting off his head was considered a "light tap" then, but flowey wrapping him in painful vines is considered more painful than getting his head chopped off and still having enough consciousness to joke about it.)

He knows his cooking sucks and that nobody likes it.

(He's not naive. He knows. He even says it. "Nobody has like my cooking before!" - QUOTE. This isn't some hidden fact. He's trying his best, "mabye next year, he might even make something edible." -sans quote.)

That was all the stuff i gathered for now.

Things I've learned from each fandom part 3.

TD: So much hate for the writers. Mostly for ruining their favorite characters and I don't blame them. So many characters suffered just for the sake of it's name. Total Drama. So. much. Angst. (But at least it made people love Ezekiel so-) also I'm the absolute biggest canon shipper for this fandom, but if you ship those that aren't together then please do. (I ship a ship that no one else does so I won't stop you.. the ship is Ezekiel x Staci btw-)

Ed Edd n Eddy: this show is so old and yet I still see fans roam around here and there. Like I definitely don't blame them for staying fans. This show was absolute gold and it still is! Brings back not only memories but how I wish to be a kid again and just do whatever like the characters do.

My Little Pony: this fandom was the second biggest (aside the biggest being warriors probably), but ever since the show ended not that many people talk about it as much as used to. Going back to some old videos made me realize that. And besides, I've also realized that there were/are so many times that the fans made fun of themselves (in the fanmade videos and music videos and such).

101 Dalmatian Street: the fandom is kinda small kinda big. I don't really know what they're up to now but they were somewhat disappointed with the fact that there weren't gonna be another season. (I am too ngl, I want to know what happens to Hunter).

DHMIS: the most patient fandom of all time. Absolutely just waiting for a ligit TV series of this webseries. Like, c'mon, I'm one of them too. Just sitting here, waiting because of wakey wakey and now me like all the others, are waiting for it to happen! Also this fandom has a lot of AUs and ask blogs. Or had. Idk (Probably not as much as Undertale when it came to AUs but almost..I guess).

Kindergarten/k2: this fandom wasn't so big until the second game came out (a lot like tf2 ngl) so people started to make more fan art and ask blogs for the fandom. Not sure about them now, but things were very great at the time. I was stoked when I heard of the 2nd game before it came out. I was exited and so was the fandom. Then it grew and I was glad I watched it grow (much like tattletale, batim and Cuphead. I automatically knew they were gonna have a whole fandom and stuff). :3

The Enemy Series: I almost forgotten about this one. My highschool year turned out amazing because of this book series. I wanted to see some fan content but couldn't find much, which means this fandom is small, but the people in it are very much big fans. Also the shipping is a bit confusing (sometimes) but I agree with some of it (however I'm still a canon shipper when it came to this book series so-)

Red vs Blue: I remember waiting for 2 or 3 more seasons to come out, but during that whole thing I've been finding some pretty cool stuff like the Chuba AU where the characters were these creatures called Chubathingies (idk if I spelled that right). And then I finally checked Tumblr and I found a lot of Tucker x Washington.. Back then I was a canon shipper I didn't like it, but at the same time I didn't care much (it's still not the ship for me but I don't mind it that much).

Avenue Q: People on Tumblr (and literally anywhere else) can agree with me that Rod and Nicky were meant to be. Even tho I was a canon shipper at the time, I've always wanted them to be together.. sadly Nicky didn't like Rod the same way (mostly because Rod never told him his crush on him) but Nicky had to know because he figured his type and found a buff counterpart of Nicky called Ricky (Which is dumb, but I'll explain more later..). Also not that much love for the main character, Princeton (he's my favorite that's why I'm pointing this out-).

Wroef: yup, much like TES (the Enemy Series) it doesn't have much fan content, but at least the people that did like it showed how much they liked it! Tho of course there wouldn't be any shipping due to being about family members and dying. Family members dying. So yeah, only people you can ship is the parents (at their times, if that makes sense).

Twelve/Origins: one of the most promising webseries that no one talks about because not that many people know it. Sure a lot of people know it on YouTube, but no where else (except DeviantArt but I don't go there as much as Tumblr). So yeah, pretty underated ngl.. (this webseries has LGBTQ+ characters btw- also twelve was the original series then they made origins after the series ended. Forgot what that's called..)

MM: HOPH: I immediately joined the fandom right after watching a video of it. Thought that why bother trying to avoid it anyways? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so the fandom mostly ships Mao Mao with basically everyone (kinda like Maka), and adopted him because he went through so much (I don't blame them). That's all I know so far. Idrk about the whole Mao Mao thing with the fans that was only a guess.

Steven Universe: one of the oldest fandoms I was in. Came back once I've heard of the movie. Everyone loves Spinel (she became my favorite once I found out that I didn't have an exact favorite so i decided that she would be.. thought of Ezekiel from Total Drama too). But yeah, now everyone is sad for Steven (which is totally understandable).

OTGW: sometimes I join a fandom souly for one character. That character is non other than Wirt. Because he is my favorite and afterwards I found MoominValley so all is good. The fandom itself isn't really that active (as far as I know) so not much to talk about here.

So there you have it. Some stuff I've learned and for some reason how I became into the fandom. Idk why I would talk about myself instead of something more interesting so next time I'll try to focus on the fandom news and nothing else. Also sorry for making them longer than usual. Deltarune Chapter 2 Theories

OK! So, it’s been a week now, i would not call losing my last post due to a glitch a “blessing” (i cannot stress how much text i lost!), at least hindsight, chatting with friends and another playthrough have granted me new insight on things, so i’ll be skipping impressions and going full into speculation and theories, i will try to go from less spoilery to the most spoilery! You have been warned! Full spoilers after the break!

The Red Soul Heart

Okay, this one is not even a theory, this is straight up Undertale/Deltarune 101 lore that I think we need to bring up to contextualize a lot of things that happened in chapters 1 & 2.

So the red soul heart represents the player influence, Frisk and Kris are merely vessels for the red soul to allow us, the players, to dictate everything they do, although we as players have agency on the story and we are part of the meta narrative, Frisk and Kris are separate entities from us, they are not self inserts, they are individuals that WE TAKE CONTROL OF, because they become our vessel.

Kris however, unlike Frisk, has the ability to RESIST our influence, Kris will act on their own from time to time, they will try to resist our influence and resent us for our actions (ie, if you dispose the Ball of Junk, Kris will try to resist you and then will be mad at you for forcing them), furthermore chapter 1 ends in a cliffhanger in which Kris asserts their individuality by explicitly removing the red soul heart (ie, your power over them) and acting on their own, Kris is their own person and they do not like you taking over.

Now, an important development for Chapter 2 is, the concepts of SOUL & DETERMINATION are reintroduced, the queen explains that Lightners have the power of determination and can create darkness fountains. The Queen is wrong. As per undertale we know that Determination comes from specifically a human soul, monsters don’t have it, and this is why Kris is the only one who can CLOSE the fountains, however, KRIS WITH NO SOUL can create darkness fountains without the need of the red soul heart, meaning that is entirely possible creating fountains can be done by any lightner but only humans can close them.

Another thing of note is, Spamton was looking specifically to steal the red heart soul from Kris, this makes total sense, Spamton wanted two things above anything: Absolute power and freedom, and who has more freedom or power if not the player themselves?

Additionally, A lot of Noelle’s lines on the genocide rout do bring attention to the fact that Kris is not ordering her around, someone else is, Noelle explicitly states she’s hearing someone’s voice, and it’s not Kris’ voice sometimes, ie, it’s us, the players, this also ties in with a battle dialogue where Noelle will mention she can still hear the voice even if Kris is knocked out in combat.

So the take away from this is, we as players will still be part of the metanarrative, and Kris wants to break free from our control over them.

Kris is depressed, but they don’t mean any harm by their actions

This one is another no duh, but I want to bring attention to a little detail many people ignore about the game from chapter 1 and it’s amplified in chapter 2: Kris is less alone than they think they are, and this is because they are heavily depressed at the start of chapter 1.

The setting makes it clear that Kris is a loner who has no friends and is hurting because Asriel went to college and that was “their only friend”, but an important subtext is, they only feel like this but it’s not necessarily true.

Interactions with characters pre and post dark world paint a different picture, first off, it’s established that Noelle is a long time friend, in fact the Holidays and the Dreemurs go way back but lately have drifted apart (more on this later) this is further expanded in chapter 2, Noelle notes that Kris and her know each other better than anybody, Noelle also muses that her father and Kris are the only people she feels comfortable enough with to say “no” to them, we also find out that Noelle, Dess, Asriel and Kris used to hang out a lot, so my point is, Noelle is a close friend to Kris.

Then there is the rest of the class, most of them are at worst neutral to Kris, Monster Kid specially mentions that they wanted to partner up with Kris but because Kris was late, Monster Kid was forced to team up with Snowy. Catti in chapter one expresses that she’s glad Kris is okay in the end of the day and in chapter 2 we get a lot of info on Catti’s and Kris relation ship, I will elaborate more on this because there are many juicy bits Catti drops that will come back, but the important part is Catti and Kris also go way back, and I mean, the Cat family ADORES Kris and Asriel essentially, Catty is super friendly to Kris and treats them like family, calling herself auntie Catty and even affectionally smooching Kris. Finally, even Berdly seems to have a sort of frenemies relationship to Kris, yes he is a dick about it, but the jokes about smash brothers relating to Berdly imply that he and Kris would frequently hang out and play some melee and also Kris would always kick his ass.

The point is, Kris is lonely and depressed and feels like Susie is their first real friend but in reality, Kris always had many friends, it’s just that they feel left out for being a human and without Asriel they feel alone.

So what’s this about? Well, Kris being depressed could be why they fell to creating dark fountains, the fountains seem to be forms of escapism and they could reflect Kris’ feelings and intentions, for example, the first darkworld was a toy box with a resentful king who wanted to destroy the world, this is because that fountain must have been created when Kris was at their lowest point, alone and in despair, but then they met Susie and now Kris had something going for them.

The second dark world was created after Kris befriended Susie and after they spoke to everyone in town, Kris saw the state of Noelle’s father, heard about Noelle’s obvious crush on Susie and overally how Noelle seems to be dealing with her own stuff (more on this later), so the second dark world was created in the library (a place Noelle frequents and Kris could bring Susie to) and what was in this cyber world? A twisted queen who wanted to make Noelle happy by any means necessary.

Lastly, we have the cliff hanger ending of chapter 2: After Susie tells Kris that she wishes Lancer and Ralsei, Kris created a dark fountain right there in the living room.

The implication here is, Soul Less Kris is not necessarily doing bad things with malice, they seem more like actions of Kris reflecting their desire to escape a depressing life of lonelines and living adventures where their friends can be happy, were they can be heroes and have all the friends in the world, consequences be damned.

What Happened to Dess?

All right, I have a lot to say about December “Dess” Holiday, yes, right of the bat, the first thing I want to establish is that obviously, Dess’ full name is “December”, it’s part of the family theme naming (they’re all christmas related word play) and this is why the word December was recurring in chapter 2.

So it’s very obvious that Noelle’s plot is far from over, in fact later I will elaborate on my theory on why she might even be the final boss of the game, but for now we will focus on Dess and how she is important to a lot of the state of many of the characters and what we could see in the future on Deltarune.

The game I think makes it clear that something happened to Dess, so horrifying it caused Noelle to have a panic attack during the Spelling bee (handling Berdly the victory), however, we can definitely rule out her having died, if she died they would have stated so, she’d have a grave on the cemetery, but also it’s likely she didn’t just go to college like Asriel, again we’d know and if she just “went to college”, the experience would not have been traumatic to Noelle.

So here’s my theory: Dess disappeared without a trace and this basically was the start of both the Dreemur and the Holiday families to start going on a downwards spiral.

In chapter 1 Rudy tells Kris that their families have distanced over the recent years, but he still has a bond with Asgore, as they go way back, but what could have caused this rift between the two families? Well chapter 1 establishes Mrs. Holiday, the mayor, is a hardass who nobody likes (but people keep voting for her cause she’s that much of a good mayor), so she’d have a lot of power over the city, things like the Police Station.

Chapter 2 reveals Asgore used to be the police chief but he was fired, he didn’t step down, he was fired and they promoted Undyne, the text implies Asgore was disgraced and that’s why they fired him, but Kris decides not to read the rest, what could have happened that disgraced Asgore?

So what if what happened was Dess went missing one day and Asgore botched the investigation so hard the mayor fired him as a police chief and blamed him for her daughter being missing? Rudy would not hold it against Asgore, they go way back, but this is something that would cause their families to start distancing, additionally this disgraced firing could be the start of the rift between Toriel and Asgore culminating in their divorce and how depressingly bad life has been for Asgore in the present.

But more importantly, this would means Dess could be still out there, so what if the reason nobody ever found her is, because she’s currently trapped in a dark world? I think Dess is definitely going to be coming back at some point in the future.

Catti will be a future party member and have her own chapter

If you were here back when chapter 1 came out, I made posts saying that I fully believed chapter 2 would be about Noelle, no I am not a witch, chapter 1 was very good at foreshadowing the direction chapter 2 would take (I still feel im owed a secret santa claus boss battle tho!), so when I finished chapter 2 I was on the look out for similar foreshadowing, here’s what I found.

Like I mentioned before, Catti implies that her and Kris were close in the past, this is revealed to you on her scene in the chapter 2 aftergame, where she will unload a lot of cat lore on you.

Catti tells you about how she is disconnected to her family, she finds them annoying and weird, despite the fact that they all shower her with love, Catty even goes on about how despite Catti’s attempts to push her away, she loves her just the way she is, so I think there is potential for plot with her feeling disconnected from the other Cats.

Catti also goes on about how Noelle is “a being of light who seems to be threading on darkness” and she asks Kris to look out for her and to not let her go the down path...also asks them to protect her from Susie, lol. Catti then elaborates that Kris, much like her, is a being of darkness, which is very important because it brings attention to the parallels between what Kris and Noelle are experiencing, but also brings attention to Kris’ ability to create dark fountains.

Catti also mentions that she has been trying to learn dark magic, like any good goth teen, Catti is a witch, and she even mentions she and Kris studied dark magic together (this is fitting with the fact that Kris previously had tried to learn magic possibly because they felt left out with all the monsters who by nature can do magic), so again, this adds some history for her to be close to Kris, but also gives us a class for her to be, Kris is a knight, Susie is a fighter/Barbarian, Ralsei is a white mage, Noelle is an ice mage, Berdly is a Paladin and Catti would be a witch.

Last but not least, Catti tells you a lot about Jockington, her best friend, she just adores the little guy, and he adores her back, it’s really cute, but importantly, it gives Catti someone who she’d want to protect or rescue, im sorry, but Jockington is the perfect plot motivator.

So my prediction? Catti’s chapter will involve her learning to open up to her family and rescuing Jockington, I think this will be the case not only because of the info dump she drops on us on chapter 2, but also, because on the Queen’s mansion the rooms you cannot enter and see are labelled “Catty” and “Jockington”, meaning that this could be a subtle hint they will play a part in this hypothetical Catti chapter. Im rooting for her.

Chapter 3 will be about Toriel and Asgore coming into terms with their divorce

So the teaser for chapter 3 is that Kris created a dark fountain on the living room, obviously Toriel will be there, as she too was in the living room when this happened, but let’s take a closer look at what really happens.

Two very important details happen before Kris stabs the living room: 1.- Toriel called the police and asked them to come as soon as they can, we’ll assume she spoke to Undyne. 2.-Kris left the door of the house open.

So my prediction? Since Asgore used to be the police chief and Undyne was his deputy, it’s not a stretch to think Undyne would call asgore and tell him “some weird shit is going down at your ex wife’s house, come help!”, so I think that’s why it was important that Kris left the door open, this is because they needed to allow Undyne and Asgore in.

The chapter will revolve around Toriel and Asgore working out their issues regarding the divorce and by the end Asgore will learn to let go and move on, but im envisioning his role and Undyne’s to be similar to Berdly’s in chapter 2, hell I can even envision Undyne comically fighting your party cause she thought Kris, Susie and Ralsei in their dark world outfits were criminals. Also it would be fun if Toriel, Asgore and Undyne got their UT outfits in the dark world (Undyne would be the one in full armor, naturally).

Also obviously the theme would be TV, keeping with the recourring theme of the dark worlds being centered around escapism.

Noelle is the angel

Here’s the big one! This is a theory I had since Toby revealed the previe of “Lost girl” with the first look at Noelle’s Dark World sprite, but it’s not like it was not foreshadowed in chapter 1, but first let’s elaborate on the angel.

In Undertale you could ask Gerson about the Delta Rune, that is, the symbol in Toriel’s robes in Undertale and the Symbol of the monster religion in Deltarune, Gerson explains the delta rune represents the coming of the angel, an entity monsters more or less worship, however Gerson says they do not really know if the Angel is a good thing or bad, it could very much herald the desturction of the world, however we now this was not the case, as in Undertale Asriel is the angel, and through the actions of Frisk in the true pacifist ending, Asriel became an Angel of MERCY and used all his power to destroy the barrier and free the monsters.

However in Deltarune, despite the angel being the deity of monsters, Ralsei explains that the Angel is a Herald of destruction, should the balance of light and darkness shift, the Angel will rise and bring the Titans and destroy the world, plunging the lightners into despair the entire time.

So how does Noelle fit into this? Well, the first hint is in chapter 1, Rudy has an angel figure on his hospital room, he tells you 2 things about it, one being that Noelle and Dess made it for him and the other one that Kris and Asriel tried to make one but it sucked because Asriel gave it gigantic wings, so why is this important, because Asriel was the angel in undertale, so the angel for Deltarune would be Noelle or Dess because they also made an angel doll.

But then we get into chapter 2, not only is Noelle called “angel” multiple times, but also, the Queen mentions that “Noelle is stronger than she knows”, the Queen obviously feels untapped power within Noelle, which is why she believed Noelle could be the one to engulf the entire world in dark fountains, again this could be interpreted as the Queen not realizing only humans can make fountains (possibly), but lets not forget this game has a CHILLING genocide route, which involves you (THE PLAYER) forcing Noelle to kill everyone, including Berdly, and there is an emphasis on Noelle “having to get stronger” and every time you kill someone, you get the message that Noelle became much stronger, additionally in this route Noelle becomes bolder in the end. Noelle mentions she can hear the voice (ie the player forcing her) and remember in undertale, the final goal of the genocide route was to completely destroy the world, so why would the player be interested in Noelle growing her power? Because Noelle is the Angel and the player needs to make her so powerful she becomes the herald of destruction.

But I get it, you’re a “I wanna be nice and make friends!” kind of person, are you not dear? So where does the Angel stuff comes here for the pacifist route? Well Noelle’s plot is not done, and a lot of suffering is coming her way, I am sad to report that I believe further chapters will push Noelle more and more towards plunging into despair, and this is where Susie and the others come in, I predict the pacifist route will culminate into your party helping Noelle heal and make her an Angel of Mercy, not one of destruction.

I believe this is further hinted because Noelle and Kris are reflections, they have similar problems, similar loneliness, similar depression, but at the same time they’re opposite, Kris is a loner, Noelle is popular, Kris feels alienated because nobody is like them, Noelle is trapped because she wants to please everyone and doesn’t stand up for herself, Kris is hurting because they miss their brother, Noelle is hurting because she misses her sister, Kris’ family is broken, but they are all alive, Noelle is estranged from her mother, lost her sister and her father is dying.

The parallels are there, but there is a key difference: Kris’ life is getting better, Noelle’s is getting worse.

This is why I believe The climax of the story will be helping Noelle into healing and protecting her from the despair that would make her an Angel of destruction.

Miscellaneous stuff

Some more things born of talking to friends!

-Final chapter’s dark world will be the festival: Carnival rides have been a recourring theme in the games, ferris wheels have been brought up repeatedly, Kris and Ralsei rode a tunnel of love style boat ride, You fought Jevil in a merry goround and Spamton Neo in a roller coaster, they already mentioned the Festival will happen in a couple of days, It’s what the game is building up to.

-The Queen and the King knew each others because one of the computers in the library used to be on the abandoned class room.

-Mettaton drew Spamton Neo’s robot body in one of the computers in the library which is why Swatch mentions they helped creating it.

-Kris was the person who scared away the dog gang into turning themselves in after they attempted to rob Noelle’s house, Kris did this as a deliberate action to protect the Holidays.

-As many other people suspect, the Hatch south to hometown is probably full of humans in an iversion of the plot of Undertale.

-In the Deltarune universe either Humans are a dying breed or the war between monsters and humans is waaay more recent, given that they know very little of the nature of the soul and multiple references to human media existing in the world of deltarune are made, meaning that monsters and humans live long enough together for human media to have made it to contemporary times. This also implies that, even if Kris is the only human in hometown, other humans may exist out there.

Spuffle Headcanons (Ratsoh Anons)

Ok. Why not? They're still apart of the Harem here. So let's do this.

Headcanons:

When Spider and Shuffle got married every Anon in the harem was there.

Birdie came with Chaos and Rof. Birdie was wearing a dress, but the skirt will magically vanish.

Nurse was a bridesmaid who kept a close eye on the other anons to make sure they weren't messing with anything.

Holy was a groomsman who helped Nurse make sure nothing insane happened.

Harlow had a pleasant conversation with Shuffle. While Reese happily congratulated Spider.

The house didn't change much, just that Spider and Shuffle cuddle more, flirt sometimes, and throw random facts at each other.

Shuffle also helps Spider with getting things they can't read

Birdie often will help Shuffle make special anniversary gifts for Spider because Shuffle can't cook.

Chaos will also help Shuffle find more confidence in flirting.

Spider often asks Reese for advice and Reese gives some neat advice.

Shuffle and Spider adopted a sentient 101 weird facts book as their kid.

Shuffle still carries the smaller anons around.

Wisp has a small flower garden because they wanted one.

On the Subject of Underverse S2

You read that correctly: this is a post about one of the greatest shows ever created, the Undertale animated series Underverse, written/animated by @jakei95. I have a lot of theories that I’ve been pulling together ever since I watched both Underverse and Xtale (the Underverse prequel series). Maybe one or two have no basis in anything, but for some reason they popped into my head and I’ll stick by them until they’re proven incorrect. I will discuss the possibility of a Geno/Ink fight, Fresh!Ink, XI (you’ll definitely want to read their section!), and the fates of many different characters. This is quite the long post, so buckle up for a long ride.

Let’s begin!

GENO/INK FIGHT:

I’m putting this theory first because it is the least important. At some point in time, I somehow got it into my head that there is supposedly going to be a fight between Geno and Ink. I have no idea where I heard about this, and when I searched for any specific videos or posts about the subject, I found nothing. But I personally think a fight scene between Geno and Ink would be pretty cool, so I’m adding this in here.

FRESK!INK’S EXISTANCE:

This is a more relevant theory. Ever since Jakei announced that Fresh!Ink would be a part of Underverse, I have wondered how he would be incorporated. I don’t know if she means for him to be in the future “Beach Episode” or something more serious. (Of course, I know almost nothing about this supposed “Beach Episode”, which is apparently when Epic!Sans will be showing up, so I really wouldn’t know.) But there is an important thing to remember: Ink and Fresh made a deal in the first season.

Ever since I saw this Underverse - Xtra Scene 2, I have wondered what this “prize” could possibly be. What was Ink’s side of the deal? What did he promise Fresh? Hmm... maybe a new body to take over?

Ink’s body doesn’t have a SOUL- that’s basic “Undertale AU Knowledge 101″. What does this have to do in regards to Fresh? To my best knowledge, the actual parasitic creature True!Fresh feeds off the souls of other creatures to survive. In fact, his soul-feeding would kill his victims if he stayed long enough in one body, but he likes to play it safe and leave his victims alive in case he needs to use their body again. But he wouldn’t need to do this with Ink. Because of Ink’s SOULless nature, Fresh could theoretically feed off his body forever. Some might object that since Ink doesn’t have a SOUL, Fresh wouldn’t be able to feed off him. But then how does Fresh!Ink exist?

So, what was their deal? Fresh watches over the Xtale AU while Ink is gone, and after Cross and X!Chara are taken care of, Ink comes back and lets Fresh take over his body for a little while. There may be something else I’m missing, but the pieces seem to make sense.

XI’S PURPOSE:

For those of you who don’t know who XI is, I suggest you watch this video about Jakei’s Overwrite merch. This is when the character of XI was introduced to us, back on good ol’ April 1st, 2019. Haha, yes, the joke character of XI- funny April Fool’s Day video, a good laugh for everyone. Jakei has made a few comics about XI since then, but overall, XI hasn’t been involved in Xtale or Underverse so far. That has never sat right with me, and I’ve always thought there would be something more to him. I was proven absolutely correct when Xtale - The Movie came out. But before we discuss the little extra scene tagged onto the end of that video, I would like to point out some very interesting facts about XI.

On October 6th, 2019, Jakei posted a traditional speedart. Obviously, the art is gorgeous like always and every time I watch it I wonder if I will ever get to the level of skill she is at. But besides that, there is a very important aspect about this video. In the speedart, Jakei drew two pictures: one of X!Chara and X!Frisk fighting, and one of XI. In XI’s picture, they are depicted in full armor with a magical purple sword & shield.

Hmmm... I wonder who this could possible resemble?

Every time XI is shown, whether it be in comics or artwork, their bangs hang over their eyes. Their armor looks exactly like Kris’s from Deltarune. Heck, they both use a sword and a shield! What does this mean? XI is X!Kris. There is no way to deny this. This is why they are X!Chara’s and X!Frisk’s little sibling. I would also like to point out XI’s silver oval locket. I find it interesting how he has a different piece of jewelry from everyone else- all other important characters in Xtale have a matching golden heart locket. Does XI also have people he has given copies of this necklace to? Perhaps X!Susie and X!Ralsei, if they exist? But XI being X!Kris is only the beginning of this theory. Remember how I mentioned Xtale - The Movie earlier? Take a look at this picture.

This is a five-second frame pegged at the very end of the video, after an entry written in wingdings by Mister XGaster himself. The message is as follows:

Entry Number Eleven: As clear as a reflection in a mirror, I have found the most perfect projection of forbidden visions. Get ready. Your time is coming.

Okay, just whoa. Not only is the entry #11, but the person standing there is XI. Oh, and let’s take a closer look at what they’re holding in their hand.

I knew that silver locket was going to be important. There is no way that XI is not going to play a major part in either Underverse S2 or hmm... maybe a spin-off about the Xtale versions of Deltarune characters? To my knowledge, Jakei has not said anything about her plans after she finishes Underverse. She has her Metadora project, and I am aware that her husband @nyxtheshield is planning out his own Undertale series- someone will need to animate that, and I’m sure she would be able and willing to do the job. She has stated that there will be no seasons of Underverse after S2, and the finale will be 1.0. But that doesn’t mean she won’t make a new series. If she does, will it be about all the Deltarune characters? Will the other Xtale characters show up at certain points in it? Will XGaster play a large part in it? There is no way to know, as the idea of a new show is simply drawn from that there may not be enough time in S2 to fully expand what XI is.

In any case, XGaster states in the entry that “your time is coming”. This could either reference a new show or XI’s appearance in Underverse. I find it extremely interesting how XGaster words his message. “The most perfect projection of forbidden visions.” What does that mean exactly? XGaster has seen something in one of his many visions, obviously. The most perfect image of prohibited sights. XI is a person that stands for something that should not be allowed to exist. That makes sense- XGaster, a man, somehow got pregnant and birthed them, as shown in the Overwrite merch video. The “forbidden visions” might imply that he has seen something quite “cursed”, as us modern Internet-users would say. But then he tells this projection to get ready, because their time is coming. XGaster is telling XI to prepare themself. This just proves that XI and XGaster are tied together very closely, and that if XI does get their own series with X!Ralsei and X!Susie, XGaster will be involved.

Whew! That’s a lot of information to take in all at once. This was the big “theory” I wanted to discuss, so now we will move on to the different fates I believe may befall some of our beloved characters.

INK, FOR GOOD OR FOR WORSE?:

Ah, Ink. One of the true protagonists of Underverse. Remember: a protagonist is not necessarily a hero, just one of the leading characters. It has been seen that his story arc is the most important throughout the entire story. He is the one that inspired XGaster. He is the one that made XGaster’s plan succeed. And he very well might be the one to make it fail.

Wait, you’re asking me. I thought he was on XGaster’s side? What do you mean he will make it fail?

I didn’t want to address whether Ink was going to stick with XGaster or flip until a certain song was posted by Nyx two days ago on December 5th, “Soulless Heart”. If you haven’t listened to it yet, go ahead and click that link because the song is beautiful and absolutely necessary to continue on with this theory! The song is the Underverse 0.5 Ending Theme, and guess who it’s about? You guessed it, our good old buddy chum pal Ink. I’ve been listening to it on repeat since it came out, and it really is incredible. (Nyx, if you’re somehow reading this, I would like to personally congratulate you, because not only is the music amazing but mwah! Your voice is a joy, and I would not have any other singer do the vocals.) But the most important thing about the song is the lyrics. Here’s the first verse.

How long have I been longing

to be free and not broken

in this ocean of hollowness?

I don’t want to be forgotten.

Instantly, the lyrics hit you hard. This is about Ink, though, so you can’t expect anything less. Essentially, the song is about the emptiness that Ink feels without a SOUL. This goes along with one of his main aspects in Underverse. The only reason why he worked with XGaster to make sure XGaster’s game worked was so he could feel more emotions. As a chaotic neutral character, Ink literally only cares about himself and his personal goals. But what is interesting about this song is that he addresses the pain he has caused.

Sacrificial lambs

laid upon my path

now are broken worlds

killed by senseless wrath.

Ink knows that he has hurt people. I mean, in the present timeline when 0.5 is to be set, Ink’s actions just caused Error to literally “pull the plug” and destroy all the AUs. (Although, how many AUs were actually destroyed is impossible to determine, because there are still multiple Sanses that will be incorporated into S2 that were residing in their AUs at the time of their supposed destruction.) Ink knows that this is his fault. And now that XGaster has won, Ink will be receiving all those emotions he wanted! In the S2 teaser, which was released on the original Underverse 0.5 release date (the episode was unfortunately delayed due to issues with Nyx’s distributor, RouteNote), shows something very important.

Look at those vials in his hand. Those aren’t just colored vials. Well, they are, but their colors are especially important. Look at their specific colors: orange, yellow, and amber. Previously, Ink’s vials have been seen as very straightforward: roy g biv, that sort of thing.

You have one or maybe two variations, although in this picture there seems to be about four different aqua vials. But there certainly isn’t an amber vial. This goes to show that XGaster followed through on his promise, and Ink has a lot more variations in his color-coded emotion vials. The obvious conclusion from this is that he can feel a lot more things than he thought was possible- including guilt. With his newfound feelings, he could realize that what he did wasn’t just wrong, it was horrible. He might start to blame himself for getting all the AUs destroyed, which in turn might result in a betrayal of XGaster. With his emotions, he would become a real good person. But ultimately, without XGaster’s Overwrite abilities, Ink’s new emotions will fade and he will return to be the same old Ink as before. He will no longer understand why he sacrificed his emotions, and the cycle will start anew. Ink will never be truly happy, because being happy will always mean the suffering of others.

Or, Ink will stick with XGaster. It would be the same fate, after all; if the heroes defeat XGaster, Ink will still lose those emotions. This, though, might leave him feeling bitter and even more willing to do anything to get what he wants, which could potentially lead to him becoming a real villain. Perhaps XGaster isn’t the final boss of Underverse. Maybe the one to start everything will be the one to finish everything.

XGASTER AND UT!GASTER:

This wouldn’t be a real theory post without discussing our favorite fanfiction writer, would it? And yes, XGaster is literally a fanfiction writer. He has symptoms of OCD concerning the world-building of his universe and he just loves to add as much angst as humanly (or monsterly) possible. It just so happens that he lives in his own created universe, so his creations have the pleasurable chance at getting revenge.

Now, there are obviously two ways that Underverse can go: XGaster succeeds, or XGaster fails. This doesn’t necessarily mean that this will be the ending of S2. As I mentioned above, perhaps XGaster will be defeated at the end of 0.9 and 1.0 will be about everyone trying to stop Ink from taking the Overwrite SOUL for his own, I don’t know. In any case, I don’t really have anything to discuss about XGaster specifically, but I am pretty sure I know what his last scene will be if he happens to lose.

It is shown in the Underverse S2 Prologue - Owners that XGaster and UT!Gaster spent a lot of time together in the Void between the events of Xtale and Underverse. Not only do they hold an entire conversation together in Owners, but in Underverse 0.1 when Sans is hit in the head with a ball, he has a vision of the two of them standing together.

In XGaster’s and UT!Gaster’s conversation in Owners, UT!Gaster tells XGaster that he will fail in his quest for perfection. XGaster brushes him off because he’s an egotistical prick, yadda yadda. But this conversation is important because I believe it will parallel the ending of XGaster’s quest. In the end, UT!Gaster will approach his old Void-buddy and tell him to just give up on his pointless venture. XGaster will turn to dust after saying something like, “I will never give up”, and then we have Ink going on a rampage. That’s pretty much all I have to say on them, but I thought it would be worth adding.

DREAM AND NIGHTMARE:

Lastly, we have the brothers. As with XGaster and UT!Gaster, I don’t have much to add with them. But I do believe they will both play a major role in S2. They will be the overseers of the battle to come. Out of all the characters in the Undertale fandom, they are the most omnipotent. They are the protectors of the Tree of Feelings, which is one of three trees to give the Multiverse life. In Underverse 0.4, when X!Chara accused Nightmare of “watching us all this time as if we were part of a show”, Nightmare responded by saying:

Of course, Nightmare mostly means himself, Error, and Ink. Dream is much more active in helping people be happy, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t on the same god-tier level as his brother. Dream could sit back and watch the world tick, but he chooses not to because that goes against his morals.

In other words, Dream and Nightmare will probably affect the outcome of Underverse more than any other characters. They’re both pissed about what Error did: all those people that Dream cared about were murdered, and Nightmare can no longer generate negative feelings from innocents. They both have invested interest in this Multiverse war now, and their powers will certainly come to the forefront.

I believe that at the end of the story, the Multiverse will essentially go back to the exact way it was before Xtale was invented. XGaster will be dead, the Xtale characters will be put back in their AU, the other AUs will be restored, and at the end of it all, Dream and Nightmare will be once again pitted against one another. We may even see an alliance between them during Underverse S2 to stop XGaster, but afterwards, they will reestablish their rivalry. Unless the Omega Timeline comes into play, which it very well might, I don’t see the two brothers reconciling.

CONCLUSION:

Undertale Height Calculations

So I just did some math with @argentdandelion and discovered that the ratios between the battle and overworld sprites are ridiculously inconsistent. How inconsistent?

Well, I used the Bedroom Door hypothesis @undertale-science which compares Papyrus to his bedroom door and assumes that the latter is the same size as a standard bedroom door in our world.

Using the median calculation, which assumes one but not two pixels of height on the door to account for a door frame and space between the door, frame, and floor, I calculated Papyrus to be 6 feet, six inches in height. (for reference, the other two calculations; one with zero and the other with two pixels of clearance, put him at 6′4″ and 6′8″ respectively)

If we assume that Papyrus’ height stays consistent between his battle and overworld sprites (not necessarily the case as his battle sprites are leaning somewhat, but his b:o[battle to overworld] ratio is 2.5 while Sans’ is 2.45, and the Papyrus:Sans ratio is 1.45 in the overworld and 1.46 in battle, which is close enough to suggest that it does not affect the calculations overly much and that the brothers were probably made using eachother as height references) then he will remain 6′6″ in the battle sprite and we can use him to measure other people.

AsgoreB is 160 pixels tall, and AsgoreO is 61, which puts his ratio at 2.62, which is close enough to the brothers’ ~2.5 that I was impressed and considered the theory of consistent ratios and comparable sprites likely. ~0.1 could easily be chalked down to stylistic stuff and the inaccuracy of pixels as a medium. Asgore, with horns, would be 9′5″-9′11″

High off of this success, I turned to Toriel. And this is where we started to have problems. ToriB is 101 and ToriO is 52, which gives her a 1.94 ratio. That’s... not even close to what we’re hoping for. Upon entering battle, this Tori would shrink from a formidable 8 feet an half an inch to a mere 6′3″! Two friggen feet!

Hoping this was an outlier I brought in Muffet next. MuffetB: 107, MuffetO: 35. With a ratio of 3.12 my hopes were dashed. Unlike Toriel, this Muffet would grow from 5′5″ to 6′7.5″.

Recalculating the latter results to exclude horns (7′9 & 5′8) and pigtails (5′1″ & 6′4.5″) didn’t help. Neither did the fact that the disparities mean that a height chart would have to be re-ordered, Tori towering above Papyrus initially but being able to tuck her head under his chin during battle and not even reaching Muffet’s height.

The theory is disproven, so I’m not going to calculate everyone else

Conclusions:

Battlesprites and overworld sprites are inconsistent

if you want consistent heights or a height chart you’ve gotta choose whether you’re going by the overworld sprites or the battle ones.

You can’t determine the size you should make your battle sprites by comparing a custom overworld sprite to the other characters, and vice versa. Just make it up.

Similarly, if you only have a battle sprite you can’t determine how tall they are in feet, especially since all the height comparisons to the real world I’ve seen involve either Frisk or an overworld object.

How tall is Tori really? We just don’t know. She is a shapeshifter.

Considering how the player (and Frisk) is likely to feel about the characters in question at the time, there might be an essay in how psychological factors might effect the perceived size of an enemy combatant, and whether that might make sense of the discrepancies. (Tori, who has mothered you, is tiny. Muffet, a spider monster who just got you tied up in webs in a dark room, is huge)

16. Which UT character would be your best friend? Why?

🌼Hummm that is a hard one. I get along with most people as far as I have been told. It’s going to sound obvious but Pap and I have very similar humor. I feel like it would be either Pap or Sans. I am not the pun master that he is but I love people who make me laugh and just genuinely want to have a good time. I can imagine them doing fun movie nights with everyone. I also do happen to love puzzles. I grew up playing point and click adventure games and I feel like Pap would really enjoy playing those with someone to figure out all the puzzles. I don’t canon Papyrus to be a sweet innocent bean like most of the fandom just due to some of his dialogue so I look at him a little differently. Also, who doesn’t want to be friends with THE GREAT PAPYRUS, hello?🌼In Deltarune it would probably be Ralsei. I love that fluff boy. He is such a sweetheart and I feel like he would be fun to spend time with, probably stopping any of Lancer’s shenanigans. I think that is one of the great things about UT and Deltarune. They feel like genuine “people” that you could spend time with. It is really difficult to strike that with just a character on a screen.

48. What are your favorite theories?🌼Oh stars. Ummm most of the theories I agree with are actually incorporated into my own AU. I still think that Sans was a lab tech if not one of the main scientists that were working with soul experimentation, along with Gaster of course. I think something went horribly wrong and pushed his research too far gaining abilities that extend far past what monsters are capable that includes Boss monsters. His ability to remember is also suspect. Usually, when it comes to “Fallout” with experiments the scientist is greatly affected by it in a negative way or positive it doesn’t matter it impacts their life from there on in. If you are lucky enough you may see Flowey pop up but you can also see Sans silhouette from time to time but it’s rare and I have only ever seen it once. I wish I could screen cap it. He is following you the entire time I know that for a fact.

🌼With Delta, it is a lot more. I did so much theory diving when it was released it made my head hurt so I will keep this brief. My favorite theory is that the “world” of Deltarune is a simulation. An experiment by Gaster. There is just too much that does not add up to me and yes you could say it is an alternate universe but... I don’t know I feel like that is kind of a cop-out explanation and for someone like Toby it doesn’t fit to me. I could be horribly wrong and there is nothing wrong if that turns out to be the case but his wording in his informational posts are suspect.

As a writer, you are constantly using specific words to get a point across. It is one of the main reasons I never call WTU Sans, RED, not yet anyway. That holds special significance to both him and the story. Toby stated that DELTARUNE was not Undertale and no it is not but my question is... does he mean the DND style game that Kris and Suzie are playing? or does he mean the main Title of the game itself? My copy’s name has never changed to Deltarune mine stays the same as a Survey Program. So that is a little suspicious to me. In addition... writing 101 never add information and point it out and never come back to it. Why is the character creator bit in the beginning if this game doesn’t have ties to Gaster? In addition, I personally feel this is Gaster running simulation after simulation to try and get a different outcome but every time it turns out that the power of DETERMINATION corrupts and it is out of his control. In other words, Gaster is either displaced doing these experiments OR this happening before he falls into The CORE. I feel the latter. A theoretical simulation of the Underground and all its habitants if they made it to the surface. Hence why Gerson is passed. Why Undyne is not missing her eye. He wouldn’t know about Alphys and Undyne’s relationship. I am sure Sans plays a role in this idea... think of him as a mediator in the simulation. It’s a neat idea but I honestly have no idea. I do like exploring the idea that we don’t know what is real and what is not.

Tested the Undertale OST on my player (yes, finally got there...I only really use it on weekends due to the need to cross check with my folders and the fact that we’re on some extremely long things and the fact that my headphones get left with my work bag during the week). 100 and 101 still proving a problem.

Two options present themselves, but I’m testing other things first. One, use the Playlist file. I dunno if it’ll work, but one of my other things had me uploading a Playlist file for it (as it is a silly assortment of random game songs that I wrote song lyrics to), so once I see if that worked then I can see if it might work in the other case. The other plan is to rename 100 and 101 to Z0 and Z1 for folder organization. I just don’t want to have to redo the playlist on my own computer, so this is only if the other option is not feasible.

Snail Guy: An Unofficial Analysis

If you love @unofficial-underfell like me (who read it all in one sitting), you might be wondering about the ambiguous ‘snail guy’ who Sans texts. There’s already been a lot of speculation about this, and I don’t think I’ll even be close to the first to suggest this. I’m proposing that this individual isn’t Toriel, Napstablook, or a literal snail (the three candidates leading the poll).

(Disclaimer: This post will have endgame Undertale spoilers, choppy screenshots, and is me rambling way too long about an UT fancomic I really love.)

My belief is that this version of Underfell didn’t start with monsters being born evil, but rather they started off relatively similar to canon Undertale and then things went… wrong. For example, Toriel states that there is a similar background to UF Monster History 101- they were sealed away by humans- and a fallen child named Chara brought hope to the monsters. The difference is that, in this version, she blames them for Asriel’s death. The circumstances around Chara & Asriel’s plan in this universe is ambiguous, so I can’t yet say what caused her to change her thinking. However, she still displays care and compassion toward Chara- despite her trying not to- when Chara uses the ‘code-breaker’ move and she sees Chara. This is similar to her canon self, suggesting her personality wasn't fundamentally altered or 'made evil'. If Asgore reacted to Chara & Asriel’s deaths in a similar way as Toriel- and Flowey mentions Asgore killing humans- then, with the Royal Family as an example, it would make sense for other monsters to follow suit and adopt a ‘kill or be killed’ mentality toward the world. This is how I believe Underfell began.

The idea that monsters started similar to canon UT and went wrong is further supported by Napstablook. In brief, they appear to be in a similar situation compared to canon Undertale, but they express it with anger as well as sadness.

The first reason I believe Napstablook isn’t Snail Guy is that they have no relation to Sans in canon UT (that I remember), but also they mention coming to the Ruins to be alone. They don’t seem like they’re seeking out new relationships in this universe, such as making friends with Sans. They say anyone who cares about them ends up getting hurt, which implies that they probably don’t have any active friendships at the moment anyway but rather are focused on past lost relationships. Snail Guy also displays too much patience for Sans’s lazy texting style, as Avery describes it. Blook is short-tempered and snaps at Frisk for trying to help them; it doesn’t seem likely they’d be displaying empathy for Sans’s nightmares.

Returning to Toriel, I don’t personally believe it’s her either. Although the Annoying Dog eats Toriel’s phone in the Ruins, she never gave a spare to Frisk in this timeline, so she might have a backup with which to text Sans-- however, the phone that she gives Frisk doesn’t have texting capability. It’s when Alphys updates your phone in canon UT that it becomes able to text.

Toriel’s home DOES have gifts from Sans, but consider this: if Toriel were Snail Guy, Sans would know she isn’t a “he/him”, which he believes Snail Guy to be. Based on the fact that he physically interacted with her in order to give her gifts, it’s unlikely that there’s some miscommunication going on where they also text but Sans doesn’t know he’s texting her.

In fact, in the postgame of canon UT (after the God of Hyperdaeth fight), Sans and Alphys teach Toriel how to text. This implies she did not know how to text before.

Snail Guy also uses Japanese emoticons. Toriel only just learned what a smiley is at the end of regular UT, and it looks like this:

Finally, in terms of diction: Toriel does not use contractions. Snail Guy uses ‘gonna’ and ‘doesn’t’. To be fair, they also display some formal language: “Oh dear… did I say something wrong?”, and Toriel may have a more exuberant side that would let her text in a silly, informal style, whereas she doesn’t use contractions around Frisk to be more formal and menacing. However, I still believe it’s a bit of a stretch.

So who is Snail Guy?

I have a few main theories.

1. Alphys

Sans and Alphys are thought to have a connection already in canon Undertale. For example- I don’t have a screenshot of this right now, but it’s been passed around a lot in other theories- at the end of the true pacifist route, Papyrus is surprised that Alphys knows Sans, and Alphys gets nervous, but Sans shrugs it off by saying: “who doesn’t?”. This implies that they already knew each other and Sans is trying to brush off their connection, which… only makes it more conspicuous. In addition, Sans is said to have once owned the bag of dog food in Alphys’s lab (originally to feed the Annoying Dog), but he gave it to her-- as if he knew about Endogeny and potentially the other amalgamates. This suggests a close friendship, as the amalgamates are Alphys’s darkest secret.

Alphys is likely still a hermit all the way over in Hotland, so it’s probable that they’ve never met physically in this universe but they still are friends. Or, perhaps they have met but Alphys is ambiguous about her exact identity. Let’s consider this: perhaps Alphys and Sans met in canon UT because they both were conducting scientific research at some point. Sans has his secret lab, uses Gaster Blasters that look like DT Extractors, which Alphys used ‘blueprints’ for to build herself, etc-- there’s more in-depth theory posts about this. Sans is the only person who remembers WD Gaster.

A Gaster Follower says that it took a long time for Asgore to replace Gaster because his genius was irreplaceable. This suggests that, even if nobody remembers Gaster as a person, Asgore at least knew he had a royal scientist at some point and he was smart. Alphys may have had some similar memory of Gaster’s status in order to create such a convincing display- a robot with a SOUL- to get Asgore to hire her for the position, even though she already has good scientific abilities.

We can’t rule out, then, that Alphys worked with Gaster in some sense and met Sans then. In that case, she could reach out to him by saying she was a lab assistant but not specify who.

In terms of more concrete evidence, Snail Guy’s word choice sounds a lot more like Alphys, Japanese emoticons included. Also, in the screenshot above, Toriel says “Sans and Alphys” teach her how to text-- confirming that not only Alphys knows how to text, but Sans too. Let’s not forget the snail picture that Snail Guy sends to Sans: it has a lot of filters and hearts over it. In canon UT, Alphys posts this (sorry for more choppy screenshots):

I think this is the most likely option. The best argument against it is that Alphys doesn’t have a connection to snails. If she and Mettaton have a friendship similar to their friendship in canon UT, it’s possible she would develop some appreciation for snails, but probably not enough to be called ‘snail guy’ rather than ‘anime nerd’ by Sans.

2. Mettaton

This is less likely, but still possible. This will involve a bit more conjecture on my part. Sans and Mettaton don’t seem to have a connection in canon UT, but that doesn’t rule this out completely.

Mettaton’s closest friend- besides Napstablook- is Alphys. They initially met at a ‘human fanclub’. They were the only two to show up.

(From one of MTT’s diaries-- he goes on to say only she showed up.)

It’s not unlikely that he would pick up some of Alphys’s texting mannerisms (and have the ability to text, since Alphys can upgrade phones in 2 seconds). As far as I know, he never texts you in canon UT, so we don’t know how he would come across in texting.

Since Mettaton used to live on the snail farm, this gives him more of a connection to snails than Alphys herself. Snail Guy finds them cute and says they ‘lowercase LOVE the little cuties’. Mettaton’s very focused on beautiful things, and I personally think he must’ve come to find snails to be cute based on the long time he likely spent on the farm before leaving. Note that Snail Guy becomes apparently angry when Sans calls them ‘kinda ugly’.

They also mention eating snails-- some people make out the Blook family farm to be a little darker in UF, such as making the cousins eat snails or butcher snails. This would match Snail Guy if it held true in this universe, which has yet to be proven.

MTT being Snail Guy also would explain the mysterious ‘sessions’ a little bit. As an entertainer, Mettaton must attend practice sessions in some way. I wouldn’t rule out that he had to do some kind of maintenance ‘session’ on his robotic body with Alphys, too. In the True Lab in canon UT, she mentions that Mettaton is pestering her to finish his EX-form body, but she’s nervous because she’s scared he’ll abandon her if she does; this implies that Mettaton meets with Alphys regularly. So at least, Mettaton and Alphys may be in contact and working on his EX body. (I suppose this would explain ‘sessions’ for Alphys too, huh?)

Alternatively-- the two of them may be practicing his Mettaton NEO functionality, and they may be training/sparring sessions. A common UF trope is that Mettaton is less popular because the monsters are more focused on bloodshed rather than bread and circuses. Focusing on his NEO form rather than his beauty-oriented EX form would attract more attention from the people, which is what he wants, and it would have the potential to eradicate humanity if it worked, which Asgore probably wants.

Since Fell monsters start in a similar place to UT monsters in this universe, I’m not sure that Mettaton would want to eradicate humanity. In canon UT, he states he can’t “be a star without an audience.” Perhaps, if he weren’t popular among the populace, he would be more eager to please them and thus go forth with his NEO form-- although this would likely still bother him. This is conjecture, but perhaps he likes Sans specifically because he doesn’t know who he is- just ‘Snail Guy’- or what he’s capable of doing. Talking to Sans could be an outlet that he couldn't express with Alphys, who's likely actively working on his robot body. He likely doesn't have contact with Napstablook, considering their sorry state-- it's possible he had a fight with Blook, considering how they say anyone close to them gets hurt.

Perhaps he’s specifically vague about what his ‘sessions’ are, knowing Sans is lazy and won’t ask, so he can vent a little about them without making it clear who he is and what the sessions are. However, Sans does mention that Snail Guy has ‘enough on his plate’, implying he knows in some capacity.

I don’t think that Sans would be close enough to tell MTT about his nightmares, and again, I’m not sure how they would’ve met in the first place. However, it is worth noting that Sans calls Snail Guy a ‘drama queen’, which fits MTT perfectly. I think this is a little more likely than Napstablook because of Snail Guy’s exuberant texting style.

All this, however, has yet to be seen. One thing we DO know about Snail Guy for sure is that they'll be revealed later in the story! I'm excited to see, and in no way is this meant to rush the mods of unofficial-underfell or 'force' them to reveal Snail Guy's identity. This is just an overly long speculation post I made for fun. If anything, I hope this post reveals how much I love the comic and how much I can't stop thinking about it, haha. Thanks for reading!
