Mario & Luigi: The Realm of Monsters
M&M:TRoM is a Mario/Undertale crossover. This AU takes place after Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, but the events of Undertale have not taken place.
The great war between humans and monsters is much the same with the residents of the underground having to make refuge from below the surface of this planet. What they failed to realise is that most humans got wiped out from that great war, and those monsters who remained loyal to humans (such as Toads) brought the remaining few to royalty.
Some monsters weren't actually banished. King "Bowser" Koopa was only a child when the war broke out, and he like some other monsters were able to go into hiding. From his parents being killed during the war, he made it apparent that he eventually wanted to be rid of any other humans that came their way to avenge his fallen bloodline. Of course, that doesn't go well (hence the plot of the previous Mario & Luigi games).
For Mario and Luigi, because in this timeline, their LV is well into the hundreds. In this AU, LV carries over through each game. So enough is enough. Bowser wanted to open up the barrier to free the sealed monsters away to build his army and finally get the remaining humans alive to perish. He knows that with Mario and Luigi's LVs being so high, he's going to need all the help he can get. Of course, the tale goes that seven human souls would be enough to break the barrier, but there's also the question: would the seven-star children be enough to break the barrier?
It's certainly worth a shot. Somehow, overnight, Bowser was able to gather the 7 children by doing one of his usual kidnapping shades and manages to get the 7 of them together. And through some feat, it works.
The realm is broken, and everything is put on a reset. Perhaps it was the impossibly high powers of the Mario Brothers that allowed them to live, but Princess Peach wasn't so lucky. Almost instantly she got hit with a comatose state and Mario and Luigi rushed off to try and heal her as best they could. But for them, their strength practically diminished, perhaps hitting "reset" on all the LVs they had accumulated and set them back to 1 (more on this later.) With the barrier open, Bowser instantly introduced himself to the people of the underground, explaining his motives in his usual dramatic fashion, saying that he wanted to be the king that brought a new age to monsters like him, and he was widely supported. Asgore, as a fellow king boss monster got on very well terms and the monsters of the underground were very welcome to live in the Dark Lands.
The move from the underground to the surface was slow, but a lot of people rushed to see the wonders of the outside. Papyrus himself was perhaps the most eager of the bunch, for this, of course, would be the perfect time to find a human! Sans of course held a dulled sense of enthusiasm like he always does, but he held a slower start. He went to tell his friend on the other side of the ruined doors about the big news, but surprisingly, she did not wish to engage with going to the surface. She believed that humans themselves should be greeted with kindness, not with violence. It certainly gave Sans some food for thought, and he promised to visit her after he got used to things on the surface.
With the princess in a near-death-like state with the chances for recovery looking slim, the bros are seen as the leading example of guidance. It was the question if Mario himself was already a prince because of his relationship with the princess, but he had consistently rejected the role. The concerning thing for both of them is certainly their extreme decline in strength. Breaking the barrier certainly did a number on them and they're practically starting from stage 1. Both of them are obviously panicking since if their acquired strength is suddenly gone, they would have no chance of going against Bowser. Who knows until a battle would break out? Esepcially with a new army.
The two agree they have to split up and get as many supplies as they can. They need to get anything they can-- call anyone they know to bring support to the mushroom kingdom. Bean Bean, Pi'illo Island; whoever can help. Luigi had the idea of going to professor E-Gadd to possibly build a defence around the kingdom whilst the princess remains out of commission. That's a wonderful trip to Boo Woods, but he'll have to bear it.
Although, along the way, he happens to run into one skeleton. Papyrus took it upon himself to do some exploring because he was sure he was going to run into plenty of company. It was quite strange; any Boo who tried to scare him simply couldn't, he remained completely fearless and tried to make acquaintances with anyone he met. But none of them bothered to stick around. The two of them end up bumping into each other by pure chance, and there is a large amount of screaming, Luigi from fear and Papyrus from seeing a human. Luigi immediately thinks he's outnumbered and there is no way he could take on a boss monster *now* but Papyrus turns out to be the least threatening Boss monster he had ever seen. He's immediately fascinated by him, screaming his head off about how this was so amazing, but at the same time remembering his royal guard status. Papyrus takes it upon himself to guide this human to safety instead! There, no troubles!
But Luigi expresses concern about this-- he says he needs to get going to get back home and Papyrus expresses a fantastic "not to worry!" and proceeds to help him along the way. He makes it absolutely certain that he will not leave this human's side until he is brought to safety! Whilst hesitant, Luigi knows he can't get this guy off his tale and continues to E-Gadd's.
Between getting supplies, asking for potential help and going back to Boo Words, Papyrus and Luigi developed a decent acquaintanceship! Papyrus talked about being on the surface and Luigi took the great understanding of his situation, but also deeply dreaded when Papyrus claimed Bowser's plans. They also talked about their brothers quite a bit and their bad habits, but the two of them saw each other on even the ground. Papyrus walked Luigi back to the beginning of the Mushroom Kingdom where the palace was just overhead before Luigi said that they should end it here (their walk that is). Luigi feared that Papyrus being out with him could trigger a domino effect that would make Bowser immediately enact an attack on the weakened mushroom kingdom. Luigi also fears for Papyrus' safety going back to the darklands, since if its found out, Papyrus could be exiled by Bowser's crew and possibly killed. He asks Papyrus not to tell anyone about the princess' condition, nor Luigi and Mario's lack of resources so they can prevent the fighting as long as possible, and Papyrus agrees!
But of course, he spills the secrets to Sans. Papyrus tells Sans of his day and his adventure with Luigi (as short as it was), and the situation of the humans and their resources. From how Bowser had described them, Sans expected Luigi and his brother to be incredible threats, LV beyond comprehension, but they weren't (at least appeared to be). Papyrus even said that Luigi wished to keep their meeting anonymous so that Bowser and his army wouldn't go after him and Sans.
Sans agrees that he won't go telling anyone about it, but he doesn't agree to not doing his own investigation.
Sans never got a description of the brothers, other than that Luigi had "a real grand moustache and a brilliant brightly coloured hat!", which isn't exactly helpful when there are two of them. The next day, he finds Mario out collecting supplies from powerup boxes and assumes that it's Luigi who Papyrus met yesterday. It's a very similar greeting to the beginning of Undertale, but instead Sans says "don't you know its rude to break people's boxes? You're looking like a real *boxer*". And that goes as well as it can. Mario's obviously threatened by Sans' presence being a Boss monster, and Sans isn't threatened because he's LV 1, so how bad could he be?
A couple lines into their interaction and Luigi shows up there after and recognises Sans as the "short, lazy, apathetic, but loveable" brother of Papyrus. He immediately exclaims his recognition of him and how he had met Papyrus yesterday, in which Sans admits Papyrus told him already. Mario gets on the defence since it's a HUGE problem two boss monsters who are living on the Dark Lands know they're weakened atm but Sans is like "nah bruh chill out jeez." During this interaction, Sans does the good ol' (*check) but it heeds underwhelming results. But he knows, he knows something is wrong. Bowser talks about these two like he does the devil, and with both of them being LV 1, it doesn't make any sense. Luigi himself seems to be the more pacifist of the two, but he's certain there's more to this than he could ever think on. But, for now, he agrees there's no bad blood between the two sets of brothers and only wishes to greet his new pals with a handshake (You can guess what happens next).
From then on, Papyrus and Sans spend less and less time in the Dark Lands and more and more time along the mushroom kingdom side, and the more time spent with the Mario Brothers reveals a more sympathetic story about Bowser's kidnappings with the princess. They most certainly agree that Bowser coming to destroy the kingdom isn't cool, and they start helping out the bros as best they can.
This is just the beginning of the plot and there is a lot more to it but OWO !!!

JRPG, CRPG, WRPG... these aren't very useful subgenres, and geologically recent arguments have heated up the debate around them even more. So I propose throwing them out and replacing them with these 26 new, flawless categories:
ARPG - Action RPG: Do you perfom actions? Or are you stuck watching the title sequence over and over because the main menu doesn't work? BRPG - Bethesdic RPG: Can you pick up every wheel of cheese in the game and put it into a single room? Does the game needing to keep track of that eventually ruin saves? Then the game's a BRPG. CRPG - Computer RPG/Console RPG: Everyone will know exactly what you mean when you use this acronym. If need be, refer to games like Ultima IV or Final Fantasy VII, games that exclusively exist on either a personal computer or a console. DRPG - Dungeon RPG: Do you go into the prison cells underneath a castle? If you don't, are you really an RPG of any type, much less a DRPG? ERPG - Erotic RPG: A game where you find love. Did you talk to someone on an internet forum about Final Fantasy IV and get into a relationship through that? That goes here. FRPG - French RPG: Wakfu exists. I'm sure there's others. GRPG - Good RPG: They all go in here :) HRPG - Homeric RPG: Is the plot of the RPG directly ripping off 1) The Iliad 2) The Odyssey 3) A Simpsons episode? IRPG - Idle RPG: Okay, honest question. How much do you idle in these games anyway? Certainly you're setting up equipment and parties that'll auto-grind for you, right? The entire subgenre isn't just Progress Quest, right? JRPG - Judeo-Christian RPG: This category is exclusively for the 2008 game The You Testament. I'm sorry, I don't make the rules. KRPG - Kinetic RPG: You know Kinetic Novels, ie a VN that doesn't have any choices at all? Throw any RPG you want to disparge for not giving you choices in here. Alternatively, this is for any RPG that has Kinect support. LRPG - Luddite RPG: Was it released on a console 20 years after that console ceased getting games? Does it look and act like it should have been released 20 years ago? MRPG - Monster-catching RPG: Any game where you catch monsters and have them battle for you. Notably, Shin Megami Tensei is excluded; you talk, bribe, and cajole demons into working for you, which is totally different. NRPG - Natalist RPG: Does the word 'breeding' come up at any point in the game description? ORPG - Orre-game-esque RPG: Like Pokemon Colosseum or Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness, is this game a spinoff of a larger RPG series that changes a major mechanic and has a small but vocal fanbase? PRPG - Panzer Dragoon Saga-like RPG: games that make SHMUP gameplay more approachable by combining them with an RPG. Other games that fit into this category are Undertale and Sigma Star Saga. QRPG - Questionnaire-having RPG: Does the game, at some point, ask you a series of questions in order to determine something? In that case, all other categories are overwritten by this one. RRPG - 'Real' RPG: You know, in your heart of hearts, what belongs here, and everyone else is wrong. SRPG - Strategic RPG: A game in which short-term tactical gameplay decisions [strategy] are the main focus. TRPG - Tactics RPG: A game in which long-term, strategic gameplay decisions [tactics] are the main focus. URPG - Ultraviolent RPG: Can you kill a guy and have a fountain of blood erupt from them? VRPG - VIPRPG: A category reserved for any game made by someone who frequents 2ch's VIP board, or features that :3 cat person that originated there. WRPG - Weeaboo RPG: Was it made by someone outside of Asia but still have anime stylings? XRPG - eXploratory RPG: A generous term for an RPG that throws you out into the world with little direction and expects you to figure out where the game is. YRPG - Yslike RPG: Does it have bump combat? Then there you go! ZRPG - Zero-loving RPG: Are the damage numbers padded to make them look more impressive? Alternatively, does Zero from Mega Man X show up?

Hey, remember this video? This is how tumblr made the Undertale “Stronger than You” parody.
Tumblr media
Hi guys! Before we start, some of you on tumblr may have been in the Undertale fandom in 2015 when this was taking place, but I wasn't. So if you were at the devil's sacrament, then reblog with what you remember! I'd love to hear primary source perspectives of events.
(EDIT, 5/6/23: SO @galxie JUST PROPOSED TO ADAPT THIS POST INTO A YOUTUBE VIDEO. I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING)
Tumblr media
(SO IF YOU'RE GOING TO SHARE YOUR STORIES THEN GET IT IN NOW)
But without further ado, let's begin, and watch as ordinary people made Internet history. (under the cut)
Part 1: gymleadercheren
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It all started when @gymleadercheren drew a snippet of the Sans fight, with some Steven Universe lyrics underneath. This post caught the eye of @thepinkestpug, who had an idea.
Part 2: thepinkestpug
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later that same day—Oct 10, 2015—thepinkestpug sang a parody. Now, her Soundcloud link… how do I say it… doesn't sound very good? (He calls it "poor quality" herself.) But because he was in both the UT and SU fandoms, she was uniquely qualified to come up with these lyrics.
Tumblr media
Upon seeing the "Stronger Than You" parody, gymleadercheren was ECSTATIC that she inspired someone with her post. The next day, she asked thepinkestpug for "permission to smoosh our lyrics together and make a comic?” If you've seen djsmell's video, you may recognize what she made next…
Part 3: The Comic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It took 3 weeks, but on Oct 29, 2015, gymleadercheren finally finished her comic. With 38 PANELS in total, the post was an instant success. She credits thepinkestpug for her lyrics, and links to an 8-bit "Stronger Than You" instrumental. Today, the post has over 20k notes.
Part 4: djsmell
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two days later, on Oct 31, 2015, @djsmell made a song cover of the comic. He NAILED the voice of Sans, and used the 8-bit song cover from gymleadercheren's post. He posted about it on his blog, while his YouTube video now has 11M views.
Part 5: alfa995
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn't until nearly 2 months later that on Dec 21, 2015, @alfa995 finally finished his animation. It used djsmell's audio, and filled in the gaps where the comic made you use your imagination. Today, the YouTube video has been viewed nearly 80 MILLION times.
Tumblr media
These were alfa995's words about everything that had happened so far: "So basically someone… made lyrics for an Undertale version of [a song from Steven Universe] and a comic based off it, then someone else sung it, and now I animated it. I love the Internet."
Part 6: Reflections
Tumblr media
And that’s the history of this video! This singular video has grown in popularity to such immense heights, it's a well-known piece of trivia that more people recognize the Undertale “Stronger Than You” parody than the actual Steven Universe song it’s based off of.
Tumblr media
What I find interesting is how each person involved in this process had a tumblr blog. They saw each other’s posts and made more posts based off of them. By fandom standards this happened LIGHTNING FAST, the idea took 2 and a half months from conception to completion. It’s this connectivity that created the 4th most-viewed Undertale video.
Tumblr media
The Undertale scene on tumblr spawned many more memorable fan creations, such as the “Underpants” series by SrPelo, which became the entry point for many into the wonder that is his animations.
Tumblr media
It is this fandom that made Undertale a goliath of Internet culture. It is this fandom that made it so that Toby Fox will always have a loyal, rabid audience. Say what you want about it, whether you love it or hate it, the Undertale scene on tumblr may never happen again.
Tumblr media
Thank you for reading, and I hope that you enjoyed!
This was my first time thinking about the Undertale fandom in a LONG time, and it was a nice trip down memory lane. Also, here’s a few things I found while researching that I couldn’t list above:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, what's with all these "Stronger Than You" versions? I had no idea until I started researching that there were so many spinoffs of this singular video. Like, there's a CHARA response? There's a FRISK RESPONSE? THERE'S A TRIO VERSION?
Tumblr media
And speaking of spinoffs, I want to shout out the video "Richer Than You"—absolutely phenomenal YTPMV that had a lot of effort put into it.
Tumblr media
Finally, I want to shout out Super Eyepatch Wolf’s video, as it was my inspiration while writing this, and explains: “why did these videos get so popular?”

homestuck literally has incorporated every fandom au possible into its lore. and i forget so often. like every time we are talking about the alpha kids or the descendants we are actually talking about the canonic ageswap au. or like the entire game over timeline that's just a sadstuck au. and trickster mode and grimdark are like those undertale spinoffs. like think about it

Every Deltarune fan by this point has an idea of who the Knight could be. I think just about every theory under the sun has been expressed by this point, and even a few that aren't... mostly because the only concrete bit of information we have about the Knight is that they're a Lightner, if only because whoever they are, they can create Dark Worlds as only Lightners can... that we know of, anyway.
Otherwise we got nada. No hint of a motive, and any possible clues to who they are is conjecture at best.
I myself got a million ideas, but one I keep coming back to comes not from in-game info or hints, but from the very nature of Deltarune... and Undertale, for that matter.
See, as we all know, Deltarune is a spinoff/quasi-sequel to Undertale, though it doesn't quite fit either of those definitions.
Tumblr media
Famously, Undertale is strongly inspired by the Earthbound games...
Tumblr media
... and Deltarune in some ways is even closer, being a straight up RPG compared to Undertale. But besides that, Deltarune is something of an homage to classical JRPGS in general, including the none other than Final Fantasy.
Tumblr media
Heck, our supposed antagonist is basically a boiled down version of Final Fantasy's very first villain- the corrupt knight Garland.
Tumblr media
Heck, within the universe of Deltarune itself there seems to be its own version of FF, a game called Dragon Blazers, to say nothing of the small shoutouts you see to the series here and there.
However, Earthbound and Final Fantasy both have a shared plot element down the line, and this fact is the most consequential for Deltarune itself I feel, and hints strongly towards the potential nature of the Knight.
Now, while Garland was (ultimately) the main threat of the very first game, a Knight is ultimately a warrior a service into someone higher than themselves, to a liege of some sort. Symbolically, any antagonist who serves a bigger, badder antagonist is a 'Knight'- think Darth Vader to Emperor Palpatine.
This comparison is no coincidence, because both Earthbound AND Final Fantasy dipped its toes into this dynamic- via Golbez from Final Fantasy 4, and the Masked Man from Mother 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Golbez and The Masked Man are eventually revealed to be Theodor and Claus, respectively, the Long Lost Brothers of the games primary heroes.
And this is where things get interesting for Deltarune, and the Knight. Because we have three characters with a sibling whose absence looms over the plot...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kris, Sans and Noelle alike have a sibling, one at college, one seemingly isolating himself in the house, and one lost under yet-to-be-determined circumstances...
Now obviously, we're too early to make any kind of real judgement call, and what we know is too scant and obscured to have a solid picture of who the Knight is and why they're doing what they're doing.
But given the influences of Deltarune? I got a pretty good pool of suspects that I'm pretty confident about, though in the end we're only going to know when the rest of the Deltarune gets here. I could be entirely wrong, and I kinda hope so... I've grown attached to the notion that the Knight is completely independent from anyone pre-established.
But we'll see.

OKAY HEAR ME OUT
So, I have a theory about Undertale & Deltarune...
So... Basically, Deltarune is a prequel to Undertale
NOW BEFORE YOU SCROLL PAST HEAR ME OUT
So, I have no "hard" evidence or proof (Wait no! Don't go!) BUT, it would kind of make sense from how Undertale was even made.
So, yeah, Undertale was made first, but Toby said (through various sources that, to be blunt, I'm too lazy to find) that it was made as a "test to see if one person [with some help with art and stuff] could even make a full game" and he did! He made Undertale!
HOWEVER!!!
It was not his final project. It was, as he said, a test.
And Deltarune is the game he actually wants to make.
But why do I think Undertale is a "sequel" to Deltarune?
Well... The most prominent example (and well known queen killer and sexyman) is Sans.
AND NO THIS ISN'T "Sans is all powerful and all knowing and the lord of Undertale and its fanbase blah blah blah" Like i've occasional seen people say similar crap cause "Oh its THAT god damn overly popular"
But the line in particular I'm referring to is when he says "I gave up trying to go back a long time ago"
Plus the Q & A with Papyrus where Sans very deliberately cuts it short when Papyrus is talking about "where they're from before Snowdin"
And I know every facet of Sans has been discussed to death, but why do I think that line he's referring to Deltarune? Or perhaps more accurately Hometown?
Well... It's a simple line said by Toriel in the Ruins in Undertale.
"It may come as a surprise to you but... I've always wanted to be a teacher! Well... That may not be that surprising..."
AND THAT RIGHT THERE
Is another part of why I think Undertale is a "sequel" or at the very least some kind of spinoff to Deltarune.
Because in Deltarune she IS a teacher.
So... It's been a while since I played Undertale (i'm actually playing it right now which is why I suddenly had the urge to write this all out lol) but I'm certain that if you go through Undertale you can see some parallels to Deltarune.
But I'm calling it right now.
Deltarune is a prequel.
That could also explain why Deltarune (originally) only had one ending. That ending (some-fucking-how) leading to the creation of Undertale and it's world.
Hell, maybe Undertale is after the roaring or whatever... Cause in Deltarune the main bosses and such talk about "reforging the world" and maybe that's because of Kris. Maybe Kris successfully reforged the world in their own image. With their parents (Toriel and Asgore) becoming the rulers of Monsters, and (this one is mostly speculation but-) Kris' hate for humans led to the banishment of Monsterkind, and it kind of line's up strangely well...
And maybe a lot of things don't line up, sure, but Deltarune isn't even fully out yet.
I'm calling it right now. Deltarune is a prequel and Undertale is Kris' reforging of the world through darkness and darkworld fountains or something.
I SWEAR TO GOD IF I'M RIGHT I'M GONNA BE FUCKING ECSTATIC XD
(Also sans is 100% Ness /j)
BUT HEY! THAT'S JUST A THEORY!
A GAME THEORY!!!!
Rest in peace mat pat (i know he's not dead, but in internet terms he might as well be lol)

I already made a whole post about Legends ZA but I feel like whacking a perfectly undisturbed hornet's nest by saying this.
I genuinely hope Volo never comes back in a future Legends game. References or cameos in spinoffs or other media, fine, but I do NOT want him to become som overarching villain for the Legends series.
Volo isn't like, the worst character ever or anything, and I don't have any beef with Volo fans, but he'll always annoy me because it feels like he was designed with the final battle in mind first, and then the attempt to connect his actual personality with that ending twist was a total car crash.
Volo's true personality, and the extend of his history and motives is frustratingly vague, meaning that people can write him however they want. And because of that, plus the thirst that comes from being a genderbent Cynthia, Volo overshadowed the entire cast of Legends Arceus, and most of the content and fan discussion was about everyone's "Volo OCs". Honestly, I'm impressed that he managed to pull a Sans Undertale despite debuting 25 years into the franchise.
I'm a little sad to say this, because again, I actually liked Volo for most of Arceus, and I always appreciate the Pokémon series calling back to itself. But I honestly hope Volo stays in his one and only game and doesn't overshadow an entire subseries with boundless character potential

what other games do you like instead of mcsm,?
Tumblr media
Lucky you I actually have this whole thing I updated just yesterday that sort of answers your question.
I'm a huge fan of Nintendo. Mario has been my favorite fictional character since I was like 5. 😵‍💫
Aside from Mario, I loooove Kirby, Metroid, and Pokemon. I also love FPS games. The Halo series means so much to me. I love CoD, Destiny, and Titanfall as well. And of course, Minecraft holds a very, very special place in my heart. I love the original game and have enjoyed all the spinoffs so far.
With indie games, Hyper Light Drifter, Undertale/Deltarune, Stardew Valley, and I think Shovel Knight are all my big favorites 😁

Hello, pardon me, I was just checking something (anxiety lol) this is an open au right? I was reading and I'm pretty sure it is. I think this au is really lovely and I'm excitedly stimming about it now :3 I haven't posted my undertale au yet (trying to figure out comic formatting) but I would like to add my Lil guys to the party. And I will not do so without your permission. Again you are doing great I'm gonna go for now have a merry Christmas or other such winter tradition.
*i do awkward finger guns as i slide out of sight*
Hello! Thanks for the question :)
It’s technically an open AU, yes! Although there are “official” characters that will appear, fans are more than welcome to create their own comics, ideas, designs, etc…
Official characters are considered canon to this AU, but fanon and headcanons are encouraged and welcomed. Rules such as shipping and limited characters can be overlooked when it comes to fanart. If you wanna make a comic completely unrelated about anything, even a ship, go ahead! This also includes making comics of, say, your own characters participating in the comic events.
Of course, I would ask to not mix up canon vs. fanon. You can make spinoffs, side stories, etc., but don’t push them onto others and say that they’re canon. Don’t spread misinformation. :)
Hope this helps!

have you or leg been in undertale au sanses fandom? i kinda want to predict your comfortability with timekeeper's pocket dimention and chucking people in and out in chiaroscuro series based on this information
this is the scariest question ive ever received (/silly). yes, i actually met leg through the UTMV fandom! i dated a big name creator there once, no i wont tell you who, it was before i was dating leg. but you should know that i bought and played undertale the same year it came out and was active in the UTMV spinoff fandom for five or so years afterwards. I Know All Of The Early Lore. And Drama. im NOT active there anymore though.
if you really want to know how familiar the two of us are with timeline tomfoolery, leg and i are actually both familiar with homestuck, which actively uses timeline paradoxes to tell its (extremely convoluted) story. the clairnoir timeline is kind of based on how timelines in homestuck will destroy themselves if they deviate from the alpha timeline, with a touch of lore from the cookie run TBD events that states Timekeeper erases timelines herself!
tldr, multiversal/dimensional shenanigans and timeline hopping/splits are not unfamiliar to either of us, lol. we will be using our knowledge for evil storytelling purposes.

Undertale Yellow (Pacifist Route), beat December 12th.
Tumblr media
This is honestly probably one of the best and most passionate fangames I've ever played. It feels so eerily close to an official spinoff of Undertale that there were many moments I felt like I was just playing that instead of a fan project.
Everything looks and feels like you'd expect, with the addition of some nice quality of life, although I wish they added a little more (mostly related to menus and speeding up repeated overworld animations). I also kinda wish boss retries were sped up like in Undertale, but being able to just retry a boss makes up for it? Still have to mash through pre-battle dialogue though. I also appreciate that the difficulty is ramped up just a bit but not to the point it feels impossible (this may change on other routes).
The soundtrack didn't quite capture the same feel as Toby Fox sometimes but it's still very good in its own right. The dialogue is all charming and funny and the original characters feel right at home in the universe. I also appreciate that they made reference to characters in the normal game but didn't throw them out to see too often, nor made the references too often, it felt very naturally implemented. There were a few awkward design choices with bosses but they seem to be fixing that in the future with patches, so I imagine it will get better. Even so, it's still great as is, and is a must play for any Undertale fan.
Excited to see what the other routes have in store!
