UNDERTHEBED is an au based around a childs imagination. You know when you had asked your parent to check under the bed for monsters but they'd always say there's nothing there? Too bad they didn't check this time.

With UNDERTHEBED, the player, frisk, will feel extreme FEAR and DISCOMFORT sleeping in their bed and will call for their parents to check under it. The parents, feeling tired, try to assure frisk that there's nothing under their bed.

They will then leave and frisk will continue to feel FEAR and DISCOMFORT until they check under the bed themselves and get pulled under.

They will be 'falling' until they land on a bunch of wheat, trembling in FEAR when they regain consciousness and venture off. They'll always feel as if someone is watching them.

14xx ... July 15th.

A Thousand years ago, there was a village where humans and monsters lived together.. the humans and monsters would treat each other equally and nicely until the king of humans had enough.

Declaring war, the king of monsters had tried to defuse the situation by making a compromise that the king of humans disagreed on, not wanting to see even a glimpse of monsters.

Starting the war, the humans had the upper hand in defeating monsters. When they had own, they banished monsters to the shadows of the earth. Making them stay hidden from the human race forever.

20xx ... December 20th.

It is rumored that when you feel a sense of dread for three days, that a monster is awaiting you under your bed. Once you check to see if anything is under there.. you're never seen again.

It's unfortunate how this only applies to children, the freshest of fresh. The almost falling apple, their souls are the brightest at that time; is what people say.

They say that monsters try their hardest to lure children to EAT THEM!

* But, you know it's a lie.. it has to be. You don't actually believe it right? You knew you felt a sense of dread for two days now, but you're certain it'll stop when you get home. You don't believe such silly stories, right?

* You should've believed this one.

HIKEBACK

HIKEBACK is a short and sweet meta visual novel loosely based on that Aesop fable, "The Scorpion and the Frog." It's a snackable SCREAMORTALITY jam entry with a fully custom GUI and a rad-as-fuck music track. I'd recommend it if you're into games like The Room Syndrome that deal with multiple playthroughs as a plot point.

The dev has written a walkthrough for the endings as well as an extremely thorough content warning list, in case you're someone who seeks out horror games while dancing around specific horror-related triggers. Live your best life.

Some other notes:

There's no rollback for most of the game because it's story mechanic. When you can roll back, it's triggered by pressing the rollback text on screen -- not the scroll wheel!

As of 4/18/21, an error screen shows up the first time you try to use the skip function (tab key), but you can press ignore and it’ll work just fine!
