Btw, if you really just Need A Job (tm)
I'd really recommend looking into care work
Care work here is specifically being a home care aid, a care aid or assistant at any kind of residential home.
This for usually for elderly or disabled adults - and those are the ones that tend to be most entry level, from what I've seen, but also for mental health, addiction recovery etc. (With the obvious caveat that some of these jobs will be more emotionally intense than others)
I'm so serious about this guys. I was applying to jobs in care work for just three weeks, starting a couple days before Christmas, and in that time I got three interviews, two jobs offers, and five additional interview requests
Care work needs people CONSTANTLY
because it's a huge sector but very hard for them to keep staff long-term. Partly because it can be high burn-out, and there's definitely toxic places out there you should watch out for. And partly because a lot of people think care work is beneath them
AND they ACTUALLY MEAN IT when they say they're entry level. Because it's so hard for them to get staff that a lot of them will advertise super aggressively that they will train you themselves. A lot of them will straight up pay for your CPR and First Aid certifications, once they hire you, too (and you can get a leg up on applications by getting a CPR/First Aid certification for like. $30 to $80, at least in the US). They also accept experience taking care of elderly/disabled/etc. family members as real experience
Like, obviously don't do it if you hate taking care of people, but if you're open to it, it's probably by far your best shot of getting hired rn, statistically
(eta: Genuinely disclaimer that it can be super taxing emotionally and large portions of the industry are indeed fucked, and def don't take a job in this field if you're gonna be an asshole to the people you're caring for, but sometimes you just need whatever job you can get.)
Seriously, though, the first time I applied for a care work job (in October 2023, yes short timeline, like I said there's some toxic workplaces etc. out there), I applied to like ten or fifteen jobs over the course of a week or so. Within three weeks, I was working.
(And they did provide all of the training, fwiw)
If you need a job and no one is hiring, seriously consider looking into it

“I’m hopeless without you.”
♡ Mike Schmidt x GN!Reader ♡
synopsis: on his day off, mike hears that you were involved in some freak accident at work. he wastes no time in getting dressed and driving to your workplace. however, when he calls you, something bizarre happens. cws: hurt/comfort, established relationship, mike being a narcoleptic mess and a disaster pansexual (?), crying, confusing dreams for reality
~800 words | divider creds @firefly-graphics
Tumblr media
Mike runs out into the living room, putting on his shirt as he rushed out of his bedroom.
Abby is lying on her stomach watching cartoons but turns her head at the sound of her big brother shuffling around and panting. “Mike?” She called for him.
“Y/n was involved in an accident. I don’t have time to call anyone to watch you, so get your shoes on. We’re going to find them.” He explained, hopping on one foot as he put his shoes on. He grabbed the keys as Abby slipped her little Mary Janes on.
The two Schmidts went outside and Abby rushed to the backseat on the passenger side of Mike’s car.
Mike got the front door of the house locked after a moment (as trying to do anything with trembling hands is understandably very difficult). Mike slammed on the gas after hurriedly backing out of the driveway, and he pulled out his flip-phone, selected your number on it, and put it to his ear. Every time, however, he was sent to voicemail. He left a message every time he was.
“Y/n, it's me, Mike.”
“If you're alive, Y/n, please reach out if you can.”
“Please Y/n, I- I'm hopeless without you.”
“Okay. The third time wasn't the charm, neither was the fourth. Maybe the fifth time will be the one? I dunno. I have no idea if or when you'll hear this, but... Ever since I've known you, I've felt... So at home. You're the only person I know who seems to care about me, and- I… I can't lose you. Please.” Mike said into the phone.
“Mike?” Your voice came from the receiver, laughing slightly.
Mike’s heart nearly leaped out of his ribcage. “Y/N?!” He shouted. He was so alarmed because your voice sounded perfectly okay. “This- isn't some sort of prank, right?” He whispered in denial.
Your airy chuckles came crackling over the phone. “Mike, I'm okay. I'm at work. I just went on break and saw you were sending me like, three or four voicemails. Is everything okay?” You asked him seriously now.
Mike pulled over on the side of the street and teared up in disbelief. He ran a hand through his hair after putting the car in Park.
Abby was very confused by this entire situation. She was looking out the windows with her brows scrunched. “What's going on, Mike?” She asked.
“Ah, I hear a certain little girl is there with you?” You teased.
“Yeah, uh…” Mike mumbled, scratching the back of his neck. “Listen, I- I have no idea what happened. I just heard you were in danger and I panicked and didn't think things through and-”
“Oh, Mike. I'm coming over to you. Are you out of the house already?” You asked.
“I'm… right next to your work building, actually.” Mike chuckled breathily.
“Ah, I see. I'll be right out, okay?” You told him.
“M’kay.” He muttered, sniffling slightly, causing you to frown.
“I’ll see you outside.” You said before hanging up.
Mike pulled into a parking spot in front of your workplace and you walked right out the front door and trotted towards his car. He couldn't believe it.
There you were, perfectly fine and alive. You got in on the passenger side of the car. “Hi, Mike.” You greeted him softly.
And just like that, the man crumbled, and tears spilled. He hid his face in his hands and his shoulders shook with each sob.
“Oh, come here, buddy.” You cooed, unbuckling his seatbelt and hugging him over the console between the both of your seats. You pet his messy hair softly. Clearly, he had been in a rush to get here to you, for he didn't have the time to brush his hair and get himself tidy. “It's okay. I'm here, I'm okay, I'm alive.” You whispered reassuringly, holding him to your chest as best as you could in this awkward setting of the front seats in his car.
Eventually, you had all gotten home and you made dinner, as you felt obligated to, considering you unintentionally scared Mike that day.
Once Abby was sent to bed, Mike revealed that he had a dream that you had gotten into an accident at work, and to him, it felt so real that he believed it was reality.
“I’m so sorry that happened, baby. Dreams are so weird.” You told him, hugging him for the nth time that night.
Mike had a special little spot under your chin and on your collarbone where he could just bury his face into. He whimpered softly, holding your shirt in his balled fists.
You kissed his forehead softly as he relaxed in your arms, moving his head down so it was now in your lap, resting against your thighs and using them for pillows. You played with his hair and hummed softly, the quiet sound of your singing gently lulling him to sleep, and soon you found yourself joining Mike in the realm of dreams.
>> end.

Still unemployed
Sorry as always for the open rant you all witnessed two nights back from me. I'm genuinely very stressed about money. In summer and fall 2023 my concern was just trying to make myself noticed somehow, bit-by-bit through social media and gaining a substantial following just to better myself as an artist.
Now, I need any income I've got just to afford my rent and utilities.
To put it into perspective (besides the Ko-fi produced Shelby-fund, which was successfully breached and will be used this coming week on her vet bill) my ssi income's been reduced to 530$ a month while my rent is 760$. My old job supplied at least 300$+ but I don't have any of that coming in now. The stimulus money I was given as a parting gift instead of a final paycheck can't be withdrawn from or transferred to my main bank. I have at least 140$ left on that stimulus just for other expenses like busfair, art supplies, dog and home care.
I'm INCREDIBLY grateful to have my EBT card covering my groceries, my jobcoaches assisting with printing out cardstock for any (eventual) upcoming events or cons and getting me a buspass discount, and of course the backers to my Shelby fund to cover that for the year (much love to Brandon, Misty and Cheatsy on Ko-fi). I will be receiving unemployment soon, though still not enough to cover my rent and utility cost.
But, I need to pay for services on Upwork, Linked In and Vograce, for sensitivity readers and animators and shipping costs for any physical Etsy merchandise, possible venue space for real-life events, professional art prints, computer and tablet maitanance, and that's not even getting to possibly subscribing to sites such as instagram or Facebook. I still have a lot to save up for and do WITHOUT being unemployed.
As a reminder, I need to take commissions especially at this time, both 'quick' ones and more complex pieces.
5$ USD for Sketches (traditional or digital)
15$-20$ USD for Inked, flat colored art without backgrounds
30$ USD for complete pictures
Tumblr media
3$ USD = specific medium (completely digital, colored pencil, ink/watercolors, chalk)
5$ USD = extra characters
5$ USD = shading/lighting
10$ USD = Physical shipping of the drawing if it’s traditional
This is also a reminder to please assist and support me however you can via my Ko-Fi, Etsy shop, Redbubble shop and my Patreon.
Thank you, everyone.

Hi there!
So, I'm not the greatest at making posts like this, but I've recently moved out of my grandparents home and into a... well it's definitely a fixer upper, with my partner. We are both unemployed and looking for jobs everyday, but in the meantime we are incredibly low on money and don't have much to eat. We have some very basic groceries, but it won't last long and honestly? Any kind of donation would help IMMENSELY.
I'm a digital artist, you can find some of my art over at xxbattie-pupxx and you could commission me to help! I'll drop my PayPal and Cashapp under this post here if you would like to support us and put some foods in our bellies

Anyways, thanks for reading all of this!!! Feel free to reblog and try to spread it around to help us out <3

Hi friends. It is time to swallow my pride again and ask for help. I've been unemployed for over 6 months and I've been living off my 401k. And now, I've got all of $700 to my name, which isn't enough for next month's rent + bills + food for me and my 3 doggos.
I'm currently waiting for unemployment benefits but they're nowhere near what I need in rent. I also can't break my expensive California apartment rent without another place to go to, which is nearly impossible with being unemployed.
So, I need some rent and bills help for next month and beyond. There's a link below that has my Cashapp, Venmo, and PayPal.
I also understand that not many people will be able to donate because times are tough for *everyone* in this economy and if you could please share this public post, I'd be grateful.

Three unemployed men start a fire for cooking in this vacant lot, where they live, March 23, 1932. These encampments were called "Hoovervilles" after President Herbert Hoover, who denied the existence of a depression.
