six albums lately
tagged by @jasontoddenthusiastt <3
I'll be honest: I'm not much of an "album" person, I'm more the sort of person who listens to anything I might like- a single, selected songs from any random album, orchestral symphonies (the fact that claire de lune comes right after brazil, by declan mckenna, in the only playlist i have ever made should tell you everything lmao). mostly because my mood is almost as inconsistent as jason's characterization and because i have yet to hear an album with unskippable songs. with all that unnecessary info out of the way, here's some albums i sort of remember listening to recently:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm Alright If You're Ok - Aiden Bassett
Under My Influence - The Aces
rapunzel - dhruv
HELP EVER HURT NEVER - Fujii Kaze
Carrie & Lowell - Sufjan Stevens
no pressure tags: @disniq @hopeworth and honestly anyone who wants to join should feel free to

there's been a rise in appreciating '12 feral leo and i just want to say, you all have to get into idw right fucking now. the 2012 series was HUGELY inspired by early idw issues, taking many MANY elements from it. (like a lot. enough for '12 to be considered a kind of lowkey inconsistent idw adaptation) and i am telling you, as a certified hamato leonardo expert that his characterization in idw is just. INSANE. this is getting way longer than originally intended when i just wanted to show just how unhinged he is.
( just a few selected moments for a little taste i don't want to spoil anything for ppl who plan to read idw)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-
this. this one is just UP there in my "top leo moments across the tmntverse" like the entire thing. the build up to this moment in the entire chapter really helps with it, but like just these two single frames. how other than his lil bro everybody is losing their shit. the qoute??? talk about fucking RAW. like just look at this.
"sometimes a leader has to become the things he hates, to take care of the ones he loves." BANGER BANGER BANGER
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this one is another favorite that unfortunately needs prior knowledge to make it really stick but just enjoy the absolute batshit, feral behavior of leonardo brutally making the bird mutant essentially flightless.
"get away from her. can't you hear? she's done."
"yeah. i think you're right." HELLO????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there are plenty more moments of hinged leo behavior in idw but just overall. he's sooo good in idw okay he's a great brother and really amps up the parent behavior and i may have talked about only him, but idw has great angst for donnie raph and mikey too (like. GREAT) flawless raph and mikey character building, a fresh reincarnation plot, MOM TANG SHEN, lowkey bad parent splinter, jenny and the foot leo plot everyone alr knows, interesting mutant characters, saki has a sexy kitsune wife, gods exists and idk man it's just an amazing tmnt run go read it. (and then come talk shit about the +100 chapters with me bc they mostly suck </3)

any sombra fics you can recommend ? :0
Had to dust off the old fimfiction for this one aha :'D
I have a pretty high standard when it comes to sombra stuff, I only have about 100 fics favourited among the 2000 something or however many about him. I used to more frequently read mlp fanfiction but I don't really anymore :/ season 9 kinda ruined Sombra and sadly a lot of the new fics use his new personality (though to be fair he didnt have much of one before LOL)
Anyway here is my top 10 list of Certified Sombra Bangers (Sombrangers?). In no particular order:
Regarding Falling Villains (naturalbornderpy)This was one of the first fics I ever read and it is AMAZING. It's a Twibra fic, not really that serious and it was more lighthearted, it's about Twilight and the Princesses trying to reform him. naturalbornderpy is one of my favourite fanfic writers as well, he's amazing at writing funny in-character humour :D he also has a few other fics about Sombra but I think this is his best one
Sombra: Saga of Hatred (HiddenUnderACouch) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/125519/sombra-saga-of-hatred This is like a biography of Sombra, basically going through how he ended up as King of the Crystal Empire. It is amazing and impactful and I think about it way too much even to this day, when I read it in 2019. Sadly it was never finished and its last update was in early 2017 but I'd highly recommend it, it's incredibly high quality and surprisingly immersive
A Sparkle in the Darkness (tom117z) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/414136/a-sparkle-in-the-darkness Omg, this fic was so amazing. It's basically about where Twilight gets curious about Sombra after his defeat and begins reading up about him. There's a bit of a twist I won't spoil, but it's mainly about Twilight and Sombra's relationship (not Twibra shipping though). Absolutely S-Tier :D
Dinner With the King (naturalbornderpy) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/219841/dinner-with-the-king Another one of naturalbornderpy's fics, but this one isn't so funny and is more of a horror-drama from what I can remember. In the height of his initial reign over the CE, Sombra takes six guests to his castle to have dinner every month. And none ever return. Stomach-twisting and haunting. Sombra is more villainous in this one than Regarding Falling Villains
The Crusader King (naturalbornderpy) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/274736/the-crusader-king Okay, yeah, another naturalbornderpy story. What can I say, I'm a fan. This one is more like Regarding Falling Villains and is much lighter in tone, kind of comedic. Haven't read it in a while but iirc Sombra gets tied up to working with the Cutie Mark Crusaders: shenanigans ensue. Iirc as well I think it goes into his background briefly.
Unfortunately, I Am The King of Equestria (Sofa King Zill-E) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/374058/unfortunately-i-am-the-king-of-equestria This one is a certified funny haha, but technically there's actually no Sombra in it. Sombra has just defeated Celestia and conquered Equestria after returning! Only for some random human man to wake up in his body and replace Sombra's soul. Shenanigans ensue. It's pretty funny. However, like Saga of Hatred, it was never finished and hasn't been updated for 6 years. I highly recommend reading it
Sweetie's Shadow (Note Sketch) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/214170/sweeties-shadow Comedy and slice of life that gets progressively darker. Sombra gets magically attached to Sweetie Belle's shadow, essentially becoming the 'devil on her shoulder'. Very good, but again, unfinished. I recommend it though, it's a good read with an interesting read (kind of like A Sparkle In The Darkness)
The Fairy Tale Fiasco (LaWombat) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/401496/the-fairy-tale-fiasco This is a Twibra fic. Kind of like Regarding Falling Villains? Basically, Sombra attacks while Cadence and Shining Armour are off on vacation. Magical mishaps happen and he, Twilight, and Spike are sucked into a book about fairy tales. Cue some character development and reformation. A pretty good read that I binged in one sitting
Plural Possessive (Aquaman) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/243196/plural-possessive Utter chaos and ridiculousness. It's brilliant! Basically, kind of like Sweetie's Shadow and A Sparkle In The Darkness. Sombra, bitter over his season 3 defeat, comes back intending to steal Twilight's body. But there's one thing he doesn't foresee: the mare changed her address, and Sombra accidentally possesses Dinky Doo instead. Shenanigans ensue. Light-hearted comedy
Dark Arts and Kind Hearts (Boomstick Mick) https://www.fimfiction.net/story/295671/dark-arts-and-kind-hearts A Flutterbra story this time. Sombra returns after his season 3 defeat and a successful battle sees Celestia begrudgingly giving him some crime-infested land and the choice of one of the Mane 6 to choose as his bride. He picks Fluttershy, who is forced to become his wife. Story follows her and Sombra establishing a new kingdom and liberating it of crime. A good read. Serious content warning though for NSFW and explicit gore/violence
Those are all the top tier fics! Some honourable mentions:
Exile - Blade Star
A Meal Fit For A King - Bucking Nonsense
Tales from the Dark Side of the Mirror - GrimWolf, Legends from the Dark Side of the Mirror - GrimWolf (this is mainly about the alternate version of Sombra, from the Reflections comic: where he's a good guy. unfinished though)
The King of the Night - Pen Mightier
Alicorn Princess - Bad Dragon
A Somber Tale: FIENDship is Magic - Maltrazz
Little Sparrow - Mitch H
Hope this helps you :'D

Dawn of Dc fucking slaps my dudes.
I've been meaning to make a post about the Dawn of Dc for quite a while but haven't due to depression and 80 hour work weeks.
My pull box used to be one third marvel, one third dc and one third indie. Nowadays, with marvel focusing on more of those godawful movies it's producing more and more garbage. Meanwhile, dc-who has been struggling since the 90s-seems to have found its stride. My box is honestly two thirds dc and one third indie.
I've maybe three or four marvel titles. Captain marvel, mckay's avengers run and ewing's thor. I did also pick up Sentry but havent read it yet. I was about to deep dive into the fall of the house of x stuff but the whole 'Genocide' storyline is in bad taste to say the fucking least. With last year's Symbol of Truth sam wilson run over i dont have much more marvel stuff catching my eye.
Meanwhile I'm collecting most of dc's catalog. The Dawn of Dc rebrand has been phenomenal through and through. Part of it is due to color coding which my autism especially likes. Mostly, it's great storytelling.
Here is how I would rate the Dawn of Dc titles I've been collecting so far on a scale of 'bruh' to 'BRUH'(all of the ratings are made up terms):
*******Spoilers*********
Jon Kent Adventures of Superman: absolute banger...if not a tad formulaic. If seems poetic to have Jon kent-a product of Joshua Williamson- fight injustice superman-a product of Dan Didio. Dan famously hated legacy characters and loved the idea of fascist superman so-get fucked Dan. 11/10 because he beats him with a hug
Action Comics: fuck yeah dawg. It's been great. The wholesome super family shenanigans, the inclusion of Kenan (finally) on top of just damn good story telling. 10/10 would super again.
Superman: BRUH. So, after years of piss poor 'superman' books we get the warworld saga (certified banger) followed up with this delightful story from Josh Williamson. All of the classic villains get the correct treatment. Lex, parasite, banshee-with the current 'Chained' reveal. Im so glad somebody understands how to write superman. This has genuinely become a title i look forward to every week. 10.5/10
Superboy Man of Tomorrow: Certified Banger. Listen, Connor Kent was the first love of my life. 90 percent of my personality is Teen titans and Young Justice was always my favorite flavor of teen titans. Either way I was always going to love a boom about Connor Kent. That said: this book is pretty good. It clearly skews young as far as its obvious intended audience but it was still fun.
Steel: CERT-FIED BANG-ER! God I love Worf. I'm glad that my boy Steel is getting the proper treatment. Michael Dorn does a damn good job. It was a good run, just read the last one (6 out of 6) today.
Powergirl: fuck yeah dawg. I love powergirl, and this series is not as annoyingly thirsty as previous stories. She's presented as a complex yet baddass character. Her motives are complex and her actions are badass. I also like that she's part of the super family officially.
Blue Beetle: Certified Banger. Pretty damn good. Once again it's a tad formulaic but still a fun read. 8/10
Green Arrow: Certified Banger! Pretty damn good, tbh. I love the fact that my boii Roy Harper is back. Pretty strong familial vibes all around. 9.5/10
Green lantern: bruh. Listen, I only picked up this title originally because it held the preview to John Stewart's 'War Journal'. Its well done, don't get me wrong. Jeremy Adam's is an asset to D.C. at this point. Quality wise, it's a knockout. Unfortunately, it's also Hal Jordan. He's as much of an unbearable p.o.s. as he's ever been. 6/10.
Green Lantern War Journal: BRUH!!! Fucking Slaps. John Stewart is back at it in an incredibly endearing story. I was really interested to see where they would take it after Gregory Thorne basically made my boii a demigod. The ultraviolet corps are super interesting and the b plot with his mother is heart wrenching. 100/10
Green Latern Alan Scott: fuck yeah dawg. Pretty good. Love the gay representation. Been meaning to get back into JSA stuff. Haven't read the huntress or sandman stuff yet but might after this.
Hawkgirl: absolute banger. Ngl, they kinda phoned in the antagonist but that's ok. Its a fun read about a cool character we've always wanted more content on anyways. Also Jadzia is god tier. 8/10
Wonder Woman: BRUH!!! I've never been a huge fan of Diana honestly but this story had me hooked from the beginning. It's a complex, heartfelt political intrigue. Tom King can do NO wrong. 20/10
Birds of Prey: absolute banger. Super fun to read. I definitely look forward to it every month. I love cass and I love barda so- 11/10
Batman and Robin: bruh. Listen, I love Joshua Williamson but all the love in the world won't make me tolerate Bruce fucking Wayne. After the catastrophic mess that was the Gotham War event we get this run by Joshy boii and Simone DiMeo. It's a decent little story which I follow only to ensure that Robin is OK. The breakout star of this title for me was DiMeo's art. It's so kinetic! Honestly, the art is the only reason this isn't a 0/10. That said...6.5/10
Outsiders: Fuck yeah dawg! The this series only has two issues out so far but it's been fun. I love Kate abd Luke respectively and together they are lots of fun. Also this title seems to lean in to the whole 'superhero fatigue' thing. So fuck yeah! 8/10
Nightwing: BRUH!! Tom Taylor has been in charge of what is honestly the best Superhero title on the market for the past couple years-and its Nightwing. His Grayson is charming, endearing and resilient: All of the good qualities of his deadbeat dad without any of the bullshit brooding and class warfare. This Dawn of Dc title feels different because it's less a relaunch and more a continuation. It's a super interesting deep dive into the BludHaven lore that Taylor began teasing years ago. Also pirate Dick Grayson-90/10
Titans: BRUH. 10/10 MY BOIIS (boiis is gender neutral) ARE ALL GROWN UP!! THEY'RE IN CHARGE. THEY RUNNING SHIT NOW. Seriously it's very good.
Titans/Beast World: heartbreaking but ill allow it. Crossover events are always iffy, we'll see where this goes. So far-7/10
Cyborg: fuck yeah dawg! I love cyborg and I love to see him getting his own title. It's been a good one and I can't wait for the finale next month. 9/10
Flash: BRUH! So far it's a very good Wally story but we're only a few issues deep. I like the Linda subplot. 9.5/10
Speed force: fuck yeah dawg. MAS AND MINOS ARE BACK!!!!! listen I was almost ready to write this series off as another story pandering to the youth. There is a Panel wherein someone describes the scene as 'bad vibes' and is told-'bet'-in response. That said, Joshy boii is clearly happy to be writing Wallace and Avery again AND MAS AND MINOS ARE FINALLY CANNON LETTSSSSS GOOOO!!!! 7/10
Jay Garrick Flash: fuck yeah dawg! Pretty good so far. I love Jay. Love the addition to his family. 7/10
Spirit World: BRUH! Crazy fucking good. I ADORE the way this title handles deadnames. Cassie, Envoy and John make a pretty good team and this depiction of the afterlife is really neat and engaging. 15/10
City Boy: BRUH! A+ for originality dudes. I love this character's motivation, powers and personality. This title genuinely makes a positive impact on the overall dc universe. 10/10
*note* I tried to color code the titles with the corresponding comic colors but tumblr mobile didn't have yellow so

cant believe that i have had the good fortune to find not one but TWO very excellent plotty and well-written time travel drarry fics
Across the Multiverse by hsvh (110k) Thirteen years after the war, Draco Malfoy is quite happily tucked away in the Department of Mysteries as an Unspeakable. When an Auror disappears through a broken Vanishing Cabinet, it presents the perfect opportunity for Draco's research to finally graduate beyond theory. Unfortunately, Harry Potter will also be along for the ride. This has time AND space travel. A certified banger. You know when the worldbuilding makes you yearn?
Always Already by aibidil (170k) Harry and Draco, not quite friends, get sent on a mission from the Unspeakables — go to the 1980s to help in the first war against Voldemort. I'm half way through this one rn and it's been a RIDE. Honestly I'm always a bit wary starting fics longer than like 120k because it takes good writing to keep up the momentum, but I'm very glad I took a chance on this one due to good memories of aibidil's fake relationship election campaign fic.
tbh let's make that three because i can't forget my original love: If Them's The Rules by MayMarlow.
Unable to accept the aftermath of the war, Harry decides to travel back in time to become the parent Tom Riddle obviously should have had. Except that things don't go as planned and Harry finds himself part of a game with hidden rules, trying to survive while raising a boy whose understanding of family has nothing to do with love.
The tags say HP/Tom Riddle but if that author actually intended to make that relationship romantic, we haven't reached that point at all yet, 42/83 chapters and 200k words in. It's been a while since my last reread but I think Harry becomes involved with a male OC around the last few chapters, while the other parts did not have any romance at all. I've been following this fic for 8 years now and I still maintain hope of more chapters being posted. Still absolutely worth a read as an unfinished WIP.

album ask: good apollo blah blah iv
so there's two of these but i know that you meant good apollo i'm burning star iv: vol 1: from fear through the eyes of madness so i'll answer for that
The best song on the album: if i could cheat i'd pick the whole willing well suite bc it's PEAK progheed bullshit but. okay. "the willing well ii: from fear through the eyes of madness" - it's so proggy, it's so insane, it rules so hard. at once deeply weird and SUPER melodic. of course the riffz are there (it's coheed) but this is such a rhythm section showcase imo - mic todd with those bouncy bass lines and eppard holding it down for seven and a half minutes without letting up even ONE TIME. absolute ripper. My favorite song on the album: okay, so, not picking any WW songs - "ten speed (of god's blood and burial)" is my favorite and i'm annoyed bc it is ostensibly one of their dumbest fucking songs. it's literally a song about the meta version of claudio (not to be confused with the distinct, fictional version of claudio) is arguing with an evil bicycle. unfortunately it's got riffs for days My least favorite song on the album: "always & never" it does feel distinctly like cheating to pick this song but it's the truth. one of my most reliably skipped coheed tracks. The most overrated song on the album: "welcome home" again it's not BAD (it was actually the song that introduced me to coheed) but it's just like their most popular song and the fact is it's NOT their best song which, by definition, makes it overrated Most underrated: i mean all the songs on this album are pretty beloved by fans. but idk. "the lying lies & dirty secrets of miss erica court" i think it gets kind of lost in the shuffle sitting between "the suffering" and the WW suite The banger of all bangers: "The Suffering" LISTEN WELL WILL YOU MARRY ME??? AND ARE YOU WELL IN THE SUFFERING? it goes so fucking hard! it's one of the catchiest choruses they've ever written! jaunty little pop tune! but also a certified ripper! the fun little piano bit! HEY HEY! IF IT WAS UP TO MEEEEEE I WOULD HAVE FIGURED YOU OUT WAY BEFORE THE YEAR CLOCKED OUT WELL I HOPE YOU'RE WATINGGGG Rate from 0-10: 0/10 no one listen to coheed

Today's compilation:
1961 - 20 Greatest Hits 1987 Pop / Doo Wop / R&B
Eek, folks; this cassette, which there appears to be two very slightly different versions of, ended up getting me real good today. Ostensibly, this is a dynamite collection of oldies that digs deep for some tasty, forgotten treats, choosing to solely focus itself on tunes that are from one specific year, rather than doing what most other retrospective oldies comps do, which is apply a much broader scope that encompasses a wider time period.
And things really did start off great here with this look back at 1961, which opens itself up with a couple certified doo wop bangers: Gene Chandler's very soulful "Duke of Earl," which was later also famously sampled by Cypress Hill for their own early 90s west coast rap anthem, "Hand On the Pump," followed by The Edsels' lively and vocally dynamic group effort, "Rama Lama Ding Dong."
But what then followed those two bits of early 60s gold was essentially just a thick morass of re-recorded gunk 😩. Re-recordings are an almost always awful thing, in which the original artist of a song decides to release a newer version years later, usually after they've passed their prime, and the production value tends to be much lower too. Thankfully, re-recordings are not nearly as prevalent as they used to be, but plenty of record companies deceptively hawked them back in the day, in order to entice people to waste their money, and now YouTube is especially marred with them as well. And if you really wanna hear just how embarrassingly bad things could get, have a listen to Gary U.S. Bonds' "Quarter to Three," the original of which is so infectiously good—and was also blatantly ripped off by Dion for "Runaround Sue"—but on this one has Bonds sounding like he inhaled some low-grade helium beforehand instead 🥴.
So, while the small handful of highlights below are all original renditions that really get at what made some of the early 60s pop landscape so satisfying in the first place, the rest of this tape is unfortunately dominated by re-recorded versions of songs whose quality is far, far shoddier than the versions that would go on to define 1961, overall. And had this cassette come with more original versions than it did, the list below definitely would've been a hell of a whole lot longer!
Highlights:
Gene Chandler - "Duke of Earl" The Edsels - "Rama Lama Ding Dong" Ben E. King - "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)" The Shirelles - "Mama Said"

can i get a uhhhhhh "façades are beautiful–but what happens when they crack?" my god i am so curious
and maybe a "how to intimidate a showmaker 101" if it isn't too bothersome, i would like to know how to intimidate a showmaker too
those titles are certified bangers
btw, big fan of your (and livikattt's, but apparently you're the same entity™) works!!!
façades are beautiful–but what happens when they crack?
heh. for this one, we're going to have to go a while back—to before the first ppau fic was even published. i'm honestly curious how many ppau readers even saw ssash—and looking back on it now, it's certainly not my best work (and wow past tense looks weird) but i do still like some of the lines i got in there. anyway, at the end of ssash, i promised that some mikyx angst would be coming soon. then, by hcihelyd, it had been indefinitely shelved. what happened to it?
well, the most obvious answer is loss of motivation. that's the reason for almost all of my wips staying wips, after all. and it's certainly applicable here, but the more important thing that happened is, well…ppau happened.
i've mentioned before how "pure canon" in rpf can get messy very quickly if you're not careful, and this definitely got messy. i'm not going to go into the specifics of why, but let's just say there was a lot of projection going on, whether intentional or not. it wasn't an au, not really, and i'm not really comfortable writing that, especially not with where it was heading. i didn't really have a plot, either. the only thing resembling a plot was just…well. watching xl get reverse swept to get knocked from worlds contention was incredibly depressing, not to mention the loser's interview miky gave after. but eventually i found a different team to write angst about after their loss, and i'm much more proud of that fic :)
so this is never going to get finished, let alone published, but you can have a bit that didn't age too poorly~
“Hey, at least we’re not Vitality,”  he joked halfheartedly, resulting in a small and hollow laugh from his teammates. The tension was palpable, the heat of the summer air only a small factor of the thickness that permeated the room. No one wanted to be the first to speak up about their complete and utter failure.
how to intimidate a showmaker 101
in a complete tone shift, this one is complete crack. that is, until it switches povs, but i was too lazy to write more than a few paragraphs of that part seeing as i knew i was never going to be able to publish the full thing (thank you for that, lolrpf! i love having to censor everything i write just so it won't be interpreted as shipping), and i also didn't really have a set ending. i had written pretty much everything i planned out~
i do still love it, though. maybe i could change the sensitive part at some point so i can post it here or something. who knows. we'll see.
anyway, as for the actual plot…well. if you read wtua (and if you didn't what are you doing, it's right here), then you might have noticed showmaker mentioning viper putting a knife to his throat the last time scout made him ask viper for help. it's also brought up in dfwydk how showmaker teleported straight to his location and, again, got a blade to his throat. there are also a couple more references in unpublished (for now) things. these are all referring to this…incident.
before showmaker drags scout to jiejie in order to save his life, scout mentions the person who is still talking to him. viper. unfortunately, before he can contact viper himself, he has a sliiight sleep paralysis episode. enter showmaker, who is Definitely Not Concerned At All For Scout's Wellbeing, and who is also being ghosted by scout. as we see in wtua, showmaker's teleportation is…very handy.
here's the most important bit. or, well, the part that i had the most fun writing~
“I asked you a question,” Viper says, stalking towards Showmaker, and gods, speaking of that poison, Showmaker can’t help but recoil at the pain that blossoms in his mind with every word that Viper speaks. He’s all too aware of the gun still trained on his head, but his words are stuck in his throat as he tries to answer Viper.
Viper suddenly moves too quickly for Showmaker to react, and now, as well as a gun digging into his back, there’s a blade at his throat. “I won’t ask it again, Heosu.” The shadows all around the room press in, and though Showmaker knows they’re intangible, he can’t help but feel horribly claustrophobic.
Finally, Showmaker manages to conjure up his magic, frantically throwing out an explanation as quickly as he can. “It’s about Scout!”
Viper’s blade only digs deeper, and Showmaker can feel blood welling up. “What did you do to him?” Viper snarls. It takes all of Showmaker’s willpower not to thrash against the pain from the poison of Viper’s voice and slice his own throat open in the process.
“Nothing, I swear! He needs your help! He said you’d understand,” Showmaker pleads.
“Since when do you care about helping Scout?” Viper spits out. “Last I heard you two weren’t the best of friends.”
it's incredibly self-indulgent, as you can tell, but protective viper is just too much fun. i regret nothing.
we are not the same! but we are two halves of a whole :)
twin shadows, if you will~
but thank you! glad you enjoy them as much as we do, and hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek~

five favorite fics that I've written (for writer appreciation day)
tagged by kat @sleepy-skittles thank u thank u 😘😘
5. in the garden sleeps a messenger — one of two non birdverse fics ive posted!! the target audience for this fic was me, twenty some odd years ago. ((love u bitch 🥰🥰)) anyway. edea and seifer have Thee Most Interesting Dynamic. it is insane to me how little there is about them. theres mommy issues. theres a highly problematic age gap. theres a concerning power dynamic. theres a hot evil milf with a banger aesthetic. theres the time loop or whatever the fuck was going on there. succession of witches defined my life for over a decade. seifer is into petplay i know this i know this. theres SO MUCH to explore here and it's all so underutilized in the game. this fic honestly does not even begin to get into but i consider it a decent first exploration and hopefully when i have time and energy i can do it a bit more justice. as it is though i really enjoy it!!
4. without a me there is no you —
She has the same blush rounding her cheeks and the same quiet, nervous laughter as the young Mór many years ago who muffled her kisses on Niall's mouth.
this bit was floating around in my head with perfectly clarity when i woke up one day and i immediately wrote out about six hundred words surrounding it on my phone before getting out of bed. im really interested in the implications of niall dreaming a docile sweet mannered replacement wife and i thought it would be interesting to explore it a bit from mór's perspective because she would be so impossibly biased. also thought it would be interesting if she fucked above mentioned replacement. this was my first time really trying to inhabit mór which, let me tell you, is really hard when the only canon information is scraps.
3. ambilevous — oh handcat fic, my weird little brain worm. all my fics are elaborate, long overstayed jokes in one way or another but this one i wrote specifically because the concept was just sooooo silly to me. absolutely absurd. certified kk comedy hour. it is, in usual fashion, a thinly veiled exploration of the more fucked up lynch family dynamics and how the barns arent quite what they seem but of course it is.
2. smoke alarms, smoke — my first exploration of the lynch family 🥰 it means a lot to me. i love this fic. the idea of the barns as a beautiful fairy tale ending had always rubbed me the wrong way and of course i love the slow desolation of locations through those that inhabit it which, really, what is the barns if not a haunted house waiting to happen. thats the part thats lacking (unfortunate!!) but i did get to write declan as a sad sad little kiddy which is one of my few life joys. i loved it when i wrote it and i love it now (which is saying a lot). while it isnt everything i want it to be i do very much love what it is!
1. it's a gift to be simple, it's a gift to be free — my aurora character study and probably the best thing ive written thus far...maybe ever. i honestly have no idea what the fuck i was on when i wrote this but god i wish i could get it back. some of my personal favorite prose comes from this fic. its a very personal fic in that i centered the emotional core on some of my own life bullshit. stylistically i owe so much of this fic to catherine valente's comfort me with apples which i had read around then (as if it wasnt obvious). i had already been thinking about aurora and her role in the lynch family but reading that helped solidify the tone i really wanted. this is another fic i sat down, wrote, and edited all in one night. i think if i hadn't posted it then it would've languished in editing hell so im very happy with what i put out.
oh and the recurring knife thing was because i was having feelings about knife maintenance, as one does. (if anyone wants me to come over and sharpen their kitchen knives and make you dinner lmk)
ive seen this passed around and lost track of who's already done it so if you would like participate then i am tagging you now. enjoy ((:

what i'm listening to 11/5/2022 (song notes under cut)
spot. link//yt link
Laura Les - Haunted: haunted. by laura les
Black Dresses - Pink Panther: i'm just gonna paste a draft i had written about this. "i can't keep quiet anymore. i have to talk shit. so black dresses' version of pink panther is really good, right? but i went and listened to the scene queen original bc i was curious. i don't like scene queen but i figured: it's a well-written song, i'll give her another shot. and oh good god black dresses improved that song by SO MUCH. took it from like a 4 to a 9 by turning it from a punk wannabe tiktok cisbian smirkfest to a certified banger preaching the word of gross toxic trans sex. no i'm not projecting don't be silly"
Steve Lacy - Bad Habit: this might be the first song to feature on more than one WILT and that's because i fucking love this song. this is without a doubt my pop hit of the year. it's breezy, funny, cozy, loving, and just the right amount of cheeky. good shit baybee
Insane Clown Posse - Hokus Pokus: i've finally done it. i've finally gotten into icp. they're goofy as shit and the music is dogshit but it's just... a lot of fun! and kind of cathartic, listening to some weird clowns talk about all the terrible things they're gonna do to the shitbags of society but without any sense of righteousness. idk this is too many words to dedicate to icp but i'm just having a hard time explaining what has finally grabbed me about them
Kendrick Lamar - King Kunta: holy shit talk about a song that makes your jaw drop from first listen. every second of this (and the whole album) is so tight and purposeful. probably one of the greatest records of my lifetime. can you tell that rateyourmusic account is getting to me
Laura Les - ditch a body in the laundry (feat. Dylan Brady): INSANE FUCKING SONG. put that shit in my veins for real. this is probably my second favorite laura les ep, after "i just don't wanna name it anything with 'beach' in the title". unfortunately, none of this stuff is on spotify, the greyed out version you'll see in the playlist is my own local file from bandcamp. but it's on the youtube list!
The Beach Boys - Caroline, No - Mono/Remastered: i've gotten into the beach boys within the past six months or so and... it just gets you, y'know? and like i think a lot of people who only know the hits have this impression of the band as this annoyingly peppy pop band but like. brian wilson. there's some real dark shit to be found, and the absolute numb tragedy of this song just really stuck with me
Black Dresses - Kill All Your Friends: these covers!! damn!!! when this dropped i didn't dare to dream it would be a mcr cover, i just figured they had picked the same title for an original by coincidence. but ohhh was i in for a surprise. i think it was a perfect selection of song, and it hits in all the right ways to maintain the breathy desperation of the original while putting the signature black dresses sonic cocaine all throughout
Spin Doctors - Cleopatra's Cat: weirdass song. like i said last month, i've been into the spin doctors since their trainwreckords episode, and i've always had kind of an admiration for this song. it's so ambitious, and just fun in a way that's both silly and complex. it finally clicked for me eventually and now i walk around all day doing the little scatting thing from the "hook"
Savage Garden - I Want You: i'll be real i don't know shit about savage garden but this track bangs. i found this in the black dresses inspirations playlist and it just took immediately. i love the y2k era, almost kind of boy band energy from it, would definitely check out more of this band's stuff
Sam Smith & Kim Petras - Unholy: there are a lot of things to be said about this song but i'll keep this really brief. one, it's cool to see trans artists get a number one hit. two, the hook is really really really fucking good. that will be all
Brian David Gilbert - Tragedy: i felt really strongly about bdg's first halloween parody ep from last year, i kept listening to it long after halloween and it even made it onto the latest favorite album ranking. i don't feel nearly as strongly about this one, but it's still enjoyable. significantly, i've actually never heard the bee gee's original of this one, so the catchiness of it is new to me in this cover version. happy halloween!
chipmunks on 16 speed - Call Me: same thing as ditch a body with the local files here. imo this is the best chipmunks on 16 speed track, everything about it aligns just right and makes it feel like this is how the song is meant to be listened to. i know it's really just a novelty but, as i believe i've sufficiently proved, i am 100% willing to take novelties completely seriously
Fetty Wap - 679 (feat. Monty): apparently this became a tiktok song at some point? i have remained blissfully unaware of this fact until making this list. this one is just a nostalgia banger, funnily enough because of its popularity on places like vine. confession: i really did think that the lyric was "i got the soda" bc of that one danny gonzalez vine. happy soda saturday
Incredibox V3 - Over Your Head: youtube exclusive here. i have nothing to say about this, i just found it in my old saved videos and it's kinda cool
Living Colour - What's Your Favorite Color?: i have this album on cassette as a gift from a relative, which is where i first heard it recently. i have a lot to say about the history contained here but once more i will be brief. this album has a lot of really tasty cuts, this one not being anywhere near the best of them. it is, however, probably the catchiest, which is how it got on this list
Quasimoto - Catchin' The Vibe: another artist i know virtually nothing about. this kind of doom-adjacent eccentric hip hop is one of the hundreds and hundreds of styles i've been itching to get into, and this is one of my first baby steps
The Garden - Call This # Now: and we close out with yet another artist that's new to me! i guess there's a theme. an entrancing blend of hooks and weird shit is always an easy sell for me. also i'm probably the millionth person to say this but. spamton vibes

UU, as i said, CERTIFIED NO SKIP. francesca is for sure my favourite song on the album, though first time is a verrry close second.
damage gets done is just so 🤲🏼🤲🏼 like idk how to describe it?? it just gives me shivers. i may be interpreting it differently, but it hits very very close to home for me tbh. i end up teary eyed every time i listen to it. also BRANDI?? automatic banger. i don't make the rules, sorry. (also heard it in a no frills once and had to stop myself from breaking down in tears)
unknown / Nth is heartbreakingly beautiful, it just makes me cry. when will mr. hozier-byrne stop making me so emotional? it’s frankly unfair. maybe i can sue for undue mental anguish…
both first light and i, carrion genuinely might be the most beautiful, ethereal songs ive heard in a MINUTE. like they feel like what you'll hear at the pearly gates or smth, they make me a bit teary, but idk. just love them sm.
i didn't go to any shows, unfortunately. everything is so expensive in toronto atm, it's ridiculous. hozier tickets for $120+?? with what money when groceries are at an all time high?? 😭 maybe next time 😔
i do want some merch, though, i might get some at some point soon. but more than anything i need a UU toque. like, the daisy embroidered on it? would buy automatically, take my money PLEASE 💳💥💳💥
regarding your fics.. lyn, you broke my heart. and healed it, yeah, but still. i had to take so many breaks while reading both HIATT and WKYA just to take a breath. truthfully, going into them i didn’t think anything could top GRATKOL, and now i realize that they don’t have to. they’re all so good in different ways, like GOD. it’s incredible. idk how many times ive reread all of your work these past couple months, they always bring so much comfort, and i love you for that 🥹
anyway, this was long. oops? 🤍🤍🤍
Long questions require long answers, so be prepared.
Let's go Francesca nation!!!!!!! (It came out on my birthday, ok, I hold a special kinship with her). It also (and please don't laugh at me for this) reminds me so much of like a 2008 Jonas brothers song IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. When I first heard it, I remember texting my friends "wow he's like if Nick Jonas could read." lol
First Light might be one of my favorite album closers ever like genuinely it's so fucking good. And I, carrion was one of the first ones to get me to cry when I listened to the full thing (and did you hear he wrote that for his partner at the time as a gift?????? The song about the TRAGEDY??? My dude are you ok?????)
Also ok I need to admit that UU is not a no skip album for me... only because I skip unknown for my own sake. Seriously, I have only heard it live and I cried both times I did (My friends have made a whatsapp sticker of me crying to it as a joke lmao). The second verse always gets me good ™.
And damage gets done???? Fucking BANGER and just so fun and all about how like younger generations are being screwed by the ones before them like ok???? And shout out to the "Anyway..." in first time like he is truly a fellow millennial.
As for merch, his is.... so bad like I'm sorry I got the poster at my show because it was the only thing his ass did not draw. But I have a friend who does some stuff on redbubble, lemme pass the daisy idea on. And yeah, that ticket price is unfortunately the average down here in the city (and luckily I got paid the day before the 2024 leg went on sale lmao)
As for the writing, thank you so much my friend. Like from the bottom of my fucking heart you are truly so kind and wonderful and complementary and I really do not deserve it. Thank you for all that you do and say and I hope you're having the most amazing day
PS: Work might bring me to Vancouver for some stuff within the next few years. I know you said you're near Toronto, but if you have any Vancouver recs, lemme know!

8/11/2023
Once again I forced myself out of bed at 5am this morning. I did not want to get up this morning, but I did it. I went out closer to 6:20 this morning, so I did in fact get some of those great cotton candy sky predawn views. I also did the route backwards today. I didn't hate it, but I definitely prefer it the other way. It was a little cooler today at 69 degrees (nice) and slightly less humid, only 90% today. I feel like I did do better. During one of the jogging sections my legs felt like lead, but I think that might be due to the fact that I was listening to a song with just the wildly wrong BPM for jogging.
A pretty cool side-effect of going for the Mental Health Jogwalk™ is that I'm getting to actually wear the tshirts that I own and enjoy wearing. For months now I've basically just been wearing work clothes on work days and either staying in pajamas all day or, if I had to leave the house for errands, picking between like five shirts that I thought wouldn't get me weird stares at the grocery store. But now I have an excuse to wear the band shirts, the weird shirts, the shirts with funky designs on them. Because who's going to see me? The handful of people out walking their dogs? The people driving to work? Yeah, none of them care. It's great.
I wore the One OK Rock shirt that I got from the concert back in March, and so I put on some of their music for the jogwalk. Some of their songs are great for jogging. Unfortunately my favorite (Neon) is pretty terrible for jogging even if it is a straight certified banger. C.h.a.o.s.m.y.t.h and Vandalize on the other hand are excellent for jogging.
Someone had come along and upended a lot of the mushrooms, which made me sad. But even bigger mushrooms had also grown overnight, so I'm giving a big ol' metaphorical middle finger to whichever joyless heathen did that. I mean realistically it was probabably someone that works for the apartment complex, since all the mushrooms were still there, just upside-down. Oh well. I spotted the mushroom cluster yesterday while I was coming back from running errands, and that gave me a small spot of joy in the darkness that was being stuck in traffic on that fucking road.
Seriously. I hate that road. It needs more lanes and more lights. I mean yeah, ten million apartment complexes all sprung up along said road in the past six or so years and nobody involved in that process stopped to consider what adding seventy thousand new cars to the road would do to the traffic. It's not the road I hate. It's all the people that moved in and yes I know I am part of the problem but listen
This has really turned into a ramble. Guess I'll end it here. Nothing exciting really happened on the jogwalk.
Word count: 510 Weather: 69, mostly sunny Humidity: 90% (yikes) Time: 22:50
