i cannot for the life of me remember who made that post with the headcanon about the black family losing a lot of their wealth.

but i've been thinking about it a lot. and in england from early to mid 1900s, the aristocracy changed fundamentally as a class, they lost a lot of their previous held power as well as a lot of their money. and because of this, they either had to get a job (the aristocracy is the leisure class. they don't work), which means leaving behind the traditions of your class and your family in order to modernise and keep your money/power, or they could sell off their large estates/lands/artworks in order to keep tradition of the aristocracy as much as they could, but it meant losing a lot of money/power.

there's this quote describing this change in the aristocracy actually- "less power, more prestige". in staying with the traditions of old money, they lose the power they had in government/economy/whatever, but gain lots of admiration and respect from society- like they still have honour and integrity despite losing their money and power, which then becomes their primary tool in still being seen as an influential family.

and with the black family being known as "the noble and most ancient house of black", that definitely could show they chose that pathway. they're clinging onto their lineage of nobility in a time when the aristocracy as a class and the idea of high society is very much falling apart. and unlike quite a lot of these families, they don't modernise but instead keep their heads high and very much make it known that they are nobility and an ancient family, and have no intentions of disrupting this and losing the meaning of what being an aristocrat and a noble used to mean.

#also their motto being “always pure”. like i know its about purebloods and shit #but i do think there's an element of clinging onto traditions #in early 1900s was the rise of celebrities (actors/musicians/writers) surpassing a lot of religious or noble figures in pop culture #and then aristocracts then began to marry these sort of new money celebrities (although not all of them new money #i just mean not following traditions of high society and upper class #and the always pure motto could be very much a clear statement of outrage at this. of class becoming less about lineage #and more about who's the got the bigger wallets and the better parties #sorry i'm doing a module in uni rn about the monarchy and the british classes in early to mid 1900s soo #marauders era #marauders #the black family #the noble and most ancient house of black

In the world of rock, Queen stands out as a good example of the clash between guitar and piano in songwriting. I think that’s where you stumble across those more unusual arrangements and chord structures.

In my heart I want to do more hard rock music, but at the same time, I’m much more attracted to the piano. I think that automatically causes something unusual to happen.

Also Smashing Pumpkins, even though they’re not piano-based. I always found their arrangements interesting, like on the album, Siamese Dream. In terms of guitar, I also like Rage Against the Machine and Jimi Hendrix.

But in terms of piano, I love Ben Folds, but to me, that’s a very different style of music. I love the low, heavy piano bit in “Jackson Cannery.” It made me realise if you want to get heavy, you have to get down there and hit some large chord.

oh no have I just started my tinnitus arc

#the music through my right earphone suddenly just got quieter and when i take the earphone out there is a very vague ringing #hopefully it's not permanent #hashtag musician life like #i remember one of the lecturers at uni telling us about the importance of wearing earplugs on stage and made us all paranoid with #a story about some guy he knew who happened to stand too close to the cymbals one gig and it ruined his hearing forever #so now i wear ear protection at any gig even if i'm not playing #but listening to music through earphones i have been irresponsible about it since i first put an earphone in my ear in 2011 #and now I've probably got tinnitus #most likely bc i can't listen to the recommended volume on my phone bc it sounds too quiet for me. which is probably a sign #LISTEN TO MUSIC AT SAFE VOLUMES KIDS AND WEAR EARPLUGS TO GIGS OR YOU'LL END UP LIKE FUTURE ME PROBABLY #ramble

happy march!! february was a good month for me, and i plan to have march be even better :) this week has been good, though dreary in terms of rain and cold. it reminds me of home though, so it's a nice feeling, and i know once the 24/7 sun comes back i'm going to miss this weather. classes are going well, i'm hanging out with my friends regularly, and i feel like i've been staying off my phone way more, which has been really nice, and i think i've been enjoying life more because of it. <3 life is beautiful.

we have this shelf in the music building where people can leave music for others to take, and i think it's really cute that we have a little free music library.

these jeans are my favorite cause i love the cut of them, and the color. they actually used to be my dads, but he gave me a bunch of his old jeans that he doesn't wear anymore. i think that's one of the best ways of living sustainably, and plus, one mans trash is another mans treasure :)

the sky has been so pretty in the evenings due to the rain, and so i take way too many photos of it hehe.

i carry a lot of books around with me and it makes me feel so studious, especially since in past years i usually have only had to carry my ipad and computer. books just make everything feel so much more substantial, i guess? idk how to explain it, i just really like it :D

i hope you're all doing well. take the time to appreciate little things <3

By 'love', I don't mean romances I may come across in my twenties. By love, I mean life.

I'm Cas and I study psychology. I'm also a songwriter, which seems to be my favourite thing about me - although the blog has nothing to do with it. What I post I call just diaryblr - a mix of random thoughts and pictures. I like being poetic and I like pretty things. I've been struggling with depression and anxiety since my early childhood so I write a bit about it as well.

The 2DMV for Odore Orchestra came out today and it might just be the music nerd in me but this is definitely one of my new favourite 2DMVs and I had to rant about it.

The concert outfits! The instruments! The notes and clefs and accidentals flying about the background! The town that they're singing about appearing at the end! The little popups that say things like "vocals" and "interlude" that I recognise but cannot pinpoint! Did you know that the notes that appear behind them during the first verse and outro are the actual notes and rhythm that they're singing? That's so cool to me.

Part of me is a little disappointed that the instruments they have don't match what they mime playing in Starry Sky Orchestra and the Colorful Live 2nd performance of this song, but the rest of me is like hell yeah Nene playing trumpet! Rui playing flute! Tsukasa playing violin! And Emu would absolutely rock the tambourine like she'd bring the performance to life and you know it (percussionist Emu real).

I think more people should talk about the WxS cover of Odore Orchestra because it's so so good and the 2DMV makes it even better.
