COLLEGE!Mingyu AU - dates and confessions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
no bc college!mingyu as someone who lives down the hall from your dorm and you always run into him doing something questionable
REQUEST: heard that collage Mingyu is finally getting ahead in his love life with Oc and the oc might confess. Sooo what if Mingyu tells oc that he is going on date and OC gets jealous ->gets to know that she likes him and boom she confesses
[College!Mingyu Masterlist]
She didn't want to admit it.
Not to herself, not aloud, not to her brother, not to her parents, and definitely not to him.
Y/n had fallen for Mingyu.
She could have sworn it would never happen, only seeing him as friend... who just happened to make her laugh and smile, even during days when she felt like the world was against her.
And sure, she may have found herself wanting to spend more and more time with him – agreeing to all his invitations to eat their meals together, hang out in his dorm room, and late night study sessions in the library.
It wasn't until she found herself absentmindedly staring at him as he placed their coffee order at the counter, when she realized that maybe she saw him as more than a friend she enjoyed spending her free time with.
Y/n began to notice how much she loved seeing that stupid smile of his, the one that showcased those stupid cute fangs of his. Her heart skipping a beat each time he would casually sling his arm over her shoulder as they walked alongside each other. It was such a casual act that she didn't seem to pick up on it the first time he had done it – but as time went on, she felt as though her skin was on fire each time he made contact with her.
Of course, it didn't help that he was a shameless flirt, playfully hitting on her any chance he got.
Not only was she over analyzing his actions towards her but also his words.
The ones he most likely used on all the girls that were lined up to get even a crumb of attention from him.
God, she was one of them.
"How do I look?" He barged into her room – pulling her out of her brain rot.
"Why do you look so..." She trailed off, taking in his appearance. In all the times she had hung out with him, Y/n had only seen Mingyu in an outfit variation of hoodie, sweat pants, or shorts. For once, he was dressed ... presentable. Or at least, different from his usual rotation of casual wear.
It was simple outfit. A white tee, brown cardigan, white Sambas, and black chinos she could have sworn he purchased at UNIQLO during the time she had dragged him to the mall – not because she wanted to be with him.
No definitely not that.
He had a car on campus and she needed a ride.
"Good?" Mingyu completed her sentence with a smirk.
"Put together." Y/n corrected.
"Minghao is going on a date and she's bringing a friend."
Oh.
A date.
A double date.
He was going on a date.
"Ah..." She nodded, hiding the wave of disappointment that washed over her.
Of course he was going on a date.
Of course.
He was single, and she was just a friend.
Of course.
"You should wear your chain." She suggested.
"It's not too much?"
Y/n shook her head.
She loved that chain on him. That singular piece of jewelry had sent her over the moon the first time she had taken notice of it.
Y/n could remember that day so clearly.
It was a rainy day and Mingyu had insisted on grabbing dinner at a nearby tofu house instead of their usual on campus dining hall dinner dates.
Platonic dinner dates.
He had ordered his soup extra spicy and had shrugged off his puffer in the middle of their meal, sporting only his plain black tee and silver chain. Y/n nearly choked on her meal trying to suppress her gasp.
He looked good.
"Who's the girl?"
Mingyu shrugged, taking a seat on her bed. "Hopefully she's cool."
I hope she's lame and not his type.
"That's your main concern?"
"Yeah, I hate boring dates."
"You'll be fine. Just talk her ear off like you usually do with me."
"But it's easy with you because you're already my friend."
Friend. Ouch.
Y/n knew she had feelings towards him, but she didn't think it would be this bad – feeling the disappointment turn into jealousy.
Wanting to keep her composure, Y/n pretended to busy herself with the mess on her desk. "I still think you'll be fine."
"If it goes south, will you save me?"
"Have you seen yourself?" She snorted, placing her gel pens into their respective cup holder. "She'll probably do anything to make sure that date goes well."
"Did you just admit that I look good, y/n?" Mingyu chuckled.
Pausing her actions, Y/n whipped her head to see a smirking Mingyu – her eyes wide. "Oh god, you'll never let this go."
"You think I'm attractive?" He continued, hopping off her bed; making his way to her.
Taking a step back as he closed in on her, Y/n stretched out her arm to ensure he didn't come any closer. But he was persistent, taking another step as the smirk grew larger; her hand landing right on his chest.
His well defined chest that was always hidden under the baggy garments he chose to wear.
This is not good.
"Well, you're not ugly." She took another step back, withdrawing her arms back to her side.
"Why are you so red, I'm just playing." He chuckled, pinching the tip of her hot ears.
Her foundation was doing a great job of hiding the redness of her cheeks; she should have known when she felt the rush of warmth engulfing her face that her ears would give her away,
"My ears are always red." She leaned away from his touch.
It was a shitty excuse and they both knew it.
"Sure." Mingyu winked.
There he goes again with that stupid habit of his.
Y/n noticed that anytime he was feeling a little too flirty with her, he had a habit of winking whenever he would tease her. At first, she didn't care for it, but as time went on and as her feelings began to develop – she began to hate it.
Because of how well it suited him... and how she knew he most likely used this on other women.
It made her sick.
"Whatever." Y/n grumbled. "Aren't you going to be late?"
Mingyu shook his head. "You still have me for five minutes."
Have him.
Yeah, fucking right.
The most attractive guy on their school basketball team? The one that drew in girls who had little to no interest on the sport, cheering for him every time he would steal the ball from the opposing team? The one that had their whole floor swooning anytime he greeted them?
She'll never have him.
"Ugh, please just go." Y/n groaned, pushing him towards the door – but he was far stronger than her, standing his ground. "Mingyu please."
"I'll leave if you promise to get boba with me after."
So she can hear him talk about his date after? No thanks.
"I'm busy."
"Bullshit."
"I am! My roommate has been bothering me about going with her to sigma chi's–"
"A frat party?" He coughed in bewilderment.
It wasn't that he didn't believe her.
It was the fact that he did.
Images of her drinking in the mess of sweaty bodies, at some crappy poorly maintained home, with no one to look out for her, had caught him off guard.
There was no doubt she partied, he's heard stories of it.
But... Mingyu didn't think she would choose it over spending time with him.
Not since she had managed to agree to all his ideas of hanging out.
"We can go tomorrow." Y/n suggested.
"Fine.
・゜゜・.・゜゜・.・゜゜・.・゜゜・.
"Hey." A tap on her shoulder had drawn her attention from her conversation with Hansol, a guy from her biochem class.
Correction, the guy that had a hand on her passing the class; allowing for her and the rest of their lab group to copy off of his homework.
"Someone's outside looking for you." Her roommate continued.
Emphasizing on the word 'someone'.
"I'll be back." She excused herself from Hansol; squeezing past the mess of bodies that occupied the home.
Y/n let out a sigh of relief once she had reached the front yard, the cool spring air filling her lungs – a stark contrast to the humid air inside.
Scanning the row of parked cars, Y/n's eyes landed on the familiar black 90's Honda Civic; hazards blinking brightly.
"How was your date?" She bent down to peer into the opened window.
"Boring." Mingyu reached over to unlock the door. "Get in."
"I'm–"
Before she could finish her thought, Y/n found herself sliding into the front seat of his well maintained car. He had told her many stories of him and his father fixing up the vintage hatchback – most of his summer, and savings, going towards restoring his so called 'baby'.
She couldn't find a good enough excuse to stay; knowing that her roommate was far too occupied with her friend group they had run into when they had arrived.
Y/n absence wouldn't be missed.
Mingyu chuckled as she buckled herself in, throwing out the remaining liquid in her red cup.
Her father would kill her if they were caught drinking underage.
And if that wasn't enough, he would probably murder her if they were caught with an opened drink in a moving vehicle.
"What's so funny?"
"I knew you would get in the car." He smiled as he started the car back up.
"I– whatever." She also didn't have an excuse for this. "Was the girl cute?"
"No. Was your guy cute?"
"My guy?"
"Your roommate said you were talking to some guy." Mingyu recalled when he had called out to the girl who had gotten quite used to his presence in their room – asking for y/n's whereabouts.
"Kinda."
"Kinda." He made a face as he kept his eyes on the road.
"Yeah, I think you guys would be cute together." Y/n laughed at her own joke.
Mingyu's unpleased look changed to a smile, reaching over to give her cheek a poke. "Do you think I'm his type?"
"Oh yeah." She continued.
"What about you?"
"He's not my type."
"No I mean– Am I your type?"
"Yeah."
It was good thing the streets were empty at this hour, Mingyu's foot instantly stomping on the brakes – his arm reaching over to stop her body from lunging forward from his sudden actions. "What?" He whipped his head to face her.
He was only half joking; not thinking she would actually answer him seriously.
"What?" She blinked.
Y/n didn't realize she had accidentally blown her cover, their conversation going faster than her brain.
"You said–"
"No I didn't." Y/n replied quickly.
"Yeah you did." His eyes grew wide, almost as if he had fully processed what she had said. "You said I'm your type."
"Yeah but– okay you're tall, my parents like you, and you're smart–"
"Calm down," He chuckled at her flustered state. "You're my type too."
"Shut up." Y/n didn't want to completely buy it; he had been messing with her for as long as she could remember. For all she knows, this was just yet another moment he was doing just for shits and giggles.
"I'm serious."
"Yeah well, if you know someone who checks off those boxes–"
"Me, I check off those boxes."
"Not you."
"Why not?" Mingyu scoffed.
"You're just doing a bit."
Furrowing his brows, he tried to read her; not understanding why she was being so dismissive of him.
Usually when two people confess their feelings, or whatever this was, it was supposed to be sunshine and rainbows – it should be the pivotal moment of their relationship.
And yet, it seemed as though Y/n didn't want to acknowledge it.
Almost as if she didn't want it to be him.
"I– no yeah, it's so a bit." He rolled his eyes, his tone dripping in sarcasm.
"Come on, Mingyu. I'm just your coach's daughter he tried setting you up with. You don't have to keep up the act."
"Sure." Mingyu replied simply, resuming their drive to the boba shop they frequent just a few miles from the campus.
The silence was almost deafening as she attempted to muster up a single word to say.
Anything.
Say anything.
"You're not messing with me?" She toyed with the ends of her hair, keeping her focus on the split-end she was picking at.
"What made you think I was?"
Y/n shrugged.
"I've spent more time with you than I have with my friends, I changed my path to my calculus class so I can walk with you to your english class, I ditched my date–"
"You ditched your date?"
"I mean, they wanted to go to Seaside Donuts after and I said no." He turned to her as he slowed down at the red light. "I joke around, but I'm– I do have feelings for you."
Y/n peeled her eyes away from her hair, meeting his gaze.
She didn't want to believe all that he had confessed; just as she didn't want to believe her own feelings.
She knew he wasn't lying. She too has seen him more than she has seen her own friends in the past month and a half; her friends calling her out in their group chat about spending more time with Mingyu than with them.
It wasn't her fault that he was quick to make plans.
"Okay."
"Okay?"
"Okay, I believe you."
A smile began to creep on his lips, the one she adored so much – full fang and all. The one that was engraved in her head, making her heart flutter every time she thought of him and that stupid grin of his.
"So what does this make us?" He wiggled his brows.
"Friends."
"What the fuck?" Mingyu laughed.
"You just came back from a date, told me I'm your type and expect me to be putty in your hands?" She crossed her arms over her chest.
As if his smile couldn't get any bigger, Mingyu's lips stretched from ear to ear. "You were jealous?"
"Green." She nodded over to the light.
"Don't avoid my question."
"Not jealous. But not please either."
Mingyu reached over to give her cheek a poke; an action he found himself doing quite often.
He couldn't help it.
It was soft, and the pout she made every time he would do this was worth the light smack he would receive.
It was cute.
"I owed Hao a favor. It won't happen again."
"I don't care."
She did care.
She cared a lot.
She never wanted to feel that possessive towards him ever again. That was a nasty feeling, bubbling in her chest as she thought of him enjoying the company of someone that wasn't her.
What has he done to her?
"Yeah you do." He poked her again.
"Whatever." Y/n bit back the smile that threatened to form on her lips. "I have standards, you know. This doesn't change anything until I say so."
Y/n didn't think this was how she was going to tell him how she felt. She didn't think she would ever tell him, to be quite honest.
It wasn't the most ideal situation, she was sat in his car buzzed from the mixed drinks she had been sipping on earlier that night whilst they drove to get milk tea... after coming back from a double date...
It wasn't the romantic scene she had in her head.
"That's valid," He nodded. "What's one more box to check off, right?"
Mingyu had no issues with continuing to pursue her until it met her standard.
She was the one he wanted, after all.

Something more casual (and masculine) with very minimal makeup
During the several episodes of smog and dangerous air quality due to forest fires around the whole of Québec, my allergies to smoke/pollution caused my eyes to swell and crust, so I couldn't wear eye makeup and contacts for a while. My health was also bad, and I didn't dress up much during that time. However, on that rainy day, the air quality and my health were both "decent", so I helped my sister on her quest to find glasses that fit her face (we succeeded).

Your headcanons about boys clothes amazing! Whould you do that about all boys? Can we have Laito clothes headcanons please?)
𝐋𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐬
Tumblr media Tumblr media
including the most accurate IRL Laito I've ever seen at the very bottom yes! i'll try my best to do all the boys because there's currently requests for Ruki and Azusa in my inbox, leaving Kanato and Ayato to be the last of the sakamaki family :)
Has done a profile study on his best features and decided to go down The Rake (Robert Greene fanatics be threatened) path: “Touch, not. See? Till you bleed.” Instead of enhancing his naturally siren-like features using clothes, he chooses to adopt an outside appearance that is dripping with elegant sensuality.
Why elegant? Why not go for something raw? Dress scantily? That is because of Laito’s mind games. If Laito is with you in public and he shows that he’s a dog, and he is, to any person he sees out in the open, it’s a dangerous card to pull early because the element of surprise and disgust has been shunned for an unimportant, short scare.
However, if you pull it at just the right moment, screams of confusion and nerves are delicious when they’re fermented.
But, if you cast a lure instead, it’s gonna garner attention, either good or bad for you. Words that wonder why you’re near such a beautiful person, why you’re beside him instead of them, those kinds. It’s a cruel tactic.
Laito is definitely into French fashion. The capital of love, the city famous for its erotism and poetry, Laito is OBSESSED. One thing he absolutely loves about France is how they’re able to dress fashionably under hot weather, yet not compromise style.
Another style he’s touched on is 70s fashion. Loves the bell-bottom pants and the multiple ways he can style his hair, which is basically a mullet at this point. And who styles mullets better than the 70s?
He likes to show off the small area below his collarbones, but not necessarily the chest. Of course, that doesn't mean he won't expose his chest.
Tumblr media
this area right here
For casual wear, owns a few T-Shirts but most of the time, he’ll never wear them outside. These T-Shirts have minimal to no graphic design, believing that less is more when it comes to them. The fit of these T-Shirts ranges from loose to tightly fitting around his shoulders. The length of the sleeves reaches his elbows but there are ones that are 1-1.5 inches above the joint.
Laito has a specific group of clothes that have been minimally cut at the bottom so whenever he stretches, you can catch a small glimpse of his abdomen.
Pants are always jeans, latex pants, or dress pants. It really depends on how well his tops match with his current pair but those two are his daily. A relaxed fit, light denim is his favorite and for dress pants; a regular-fit, high-waisted dress pants where you can attach and tie a matching fabric belt.
For latex pants, latex is hard to maintain so he rarely uses them. Plus, he has to use baby powder if he does decide to don them. But when he does, their colors are always black and the fit is tightly snug; tight, but not suffocating.
For colors, leans toward nature hues since it compliments his olive undertone. Muted greens, almond browns, rajah; bright saturation does not work in his man’s favor unless they’re accents, not a full-blown piece.
For shoes, two types come to mind: a versatile sneaker suited for flexibility because this man loves to HUNT in lots of ways you can imagine, and a dress shoe that pairs with any outfit, regardless of whether they’re casual or formal.
Two shoes come to mind: Nike Dunk Low Off in White Pine Green swatch and brown heeled loafers with a leather dress sole and gold accent on the toecap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doesn’t wear brand names and prefers thrifting. It gives him a chance to go out and those overzealous attention-seeking logos like Louis Vuitton leave a bad taste in his mouth.
He prefers clothes that are sleek and minimal, like the T-Shirt section at UNIQLO; so that he can either dress ‘ruggedly’ or clean - with all the control in his hands. A power thing, at its core.
His outerwear has leather jackets, flared bomber jackets with the collar pointing outwards for a confident look and if it’s too hot outside, he’ll wear a thin cardigan. These three are famed for being extremely adaptive so Laito has a few color swatches for each because sticking to one palette gets boring quickly.
Laito’s clothes fit relaxed on him. The only tight clothing piece he’s got is the waistband on his high-waisted pants because they plump his ass.
Thick belts are his guilty pleasure but those chunky buckles can join Cordelia in the pits of hell
Didn’t like those small, rectangle glasses fashion influencers used until he saw Kou wearing one. Started to wear them out of spite. Why? So that Kou can assume Laito copied him. Why? Because Laito loves irritating the ‘trendsetter’. “They looked shitty on you so I wore them today to give them another chance at life nfufu~”
Silk bandannas. Whether they’re wrapped around his neck or tying his hair back, pretty much all of his brothers know what the alternative use is.
Ever since Y2K’s been blowing up, you best believe Laito has a pearl necklace. Makes him look extra douchey. He has the really small ones where you can’t tell it’s a pearl necklace unless you get really close and personal.
Sadly includes leopard prints into his wardrobe. If this man wasn’t already enough of an ick, he is now.
One of those guys who like to display their underwear waistband.
For accessories, Laito keeps a brown leather handbag on him at all times. There are way too many items to include, but here are a few:
Tumblr media
You can’t tell me Laito doesn’t own a tank top. Or at least five, minimum. Summer heat, folks, summer heat. City Boys rise up  ✊

The most irl accurate Laito I've ever seen omg

so.. any tips on brands that will sell you menswear in women’s sizes? it’s hard out here for a dyke pls share your wisdom
my wisdom is limited — my main problem with men’s sizes is finding tops/jackets with small enough shoulders and shoes that are small enough to fit me. this is obviously a different problem than people have if they have larger chests or need plus sized clothes so I have less info on that. but stuff that’s worked for me:
my best men’s dress shoes and boots are Clark’s (they make menswear styles in the women’s section) and Thursday boots (they run their men’s styles relatively small and have a women’s section that iirc also makes relatively androgynous styles). these are not cheap but I treat the leather a couple times a year and they still look great with years of intensive wear. the most compliments I get on anything I wear are for Clark’s desert boots, which is hilarious because they’re such basic nice ish menswear that they’re the icon for r/malefashionadvice. my last pair lasted me six years of wearing them almost literally every day nine months of the year.
uniqlo tends to run their men’s tops and jackets down into xxs sizes which fit my shoulders
levi’s have a wide enough variety of sized pants that I found a size that fits wider hips and shorter legs (and they last forever)
suits are pretty difficult. my one nice one is a j crew women’s suit that looks essentially like a men’s suit just with the button on the wrong side. also not cheap but significantly discounted several times a year and you only need one for special occasions unless you have a Suits Job. i bit the bullet and bought one two years ago and now I look hot at weddings.
in general, niche high end brands will sometimes offer deep discounts on unsold stock which is usually their smallest sizes. I usually don’t have the patience to keep checking this but if you check r/malefashionadvice and see stuff that looks cool and expensive, keep in mind that what fits you best you may actually be able to afford. not always because people on reddit are snobs with crazy amounts of money to spend on clothes. but Ive found stuff for 90% off before
I also just have good thrifting privilege living in nyc 🫡 but vintage women’s pants with pleats fit my menswear aesthetic and my best ones are vintage j crew and vintage ll bean if you want to try to punch that into depop or something

Hi, may you please spare some advice on what casual, but also cool in a hot climate, clothing a baby butch could look into wearing that’s a bit fashionable and isn’t just a shirt and a cargo shorts?
whew first of all donate any & all cargo shorts immediately (pretend tan france is telling you that Urgently). i do understand finding shorts can be kind of weird depending on ur body shape bc men’s shorts are often bulky & long. i prefer a 5’ inseam, but you can go for a 7’ if that feels better. under No circumstances should ur shorts hit ur knees lol. madewell has some pretty good options (if you can find one that’s mens & womens in-store that’s the best). pacsun usually has some pretty chill options. for online shopping, bearbottom shorts is not too expensive & has a lot of colors in both 5’ & 7’ shorts. i really like the swim shorts both& just made (not sure if they’re sold out). get lighter colors in the summer if you want for shorts, & just… no khaki.
& i love a t-shirt, but it’s in how it’s worn. i don’t think it even needs to be an interesting t-shirt, but it should have a fit & pov that looks intentional. i like to get my t-shirts a size up & tuck them in, sometimes pair them with an overshirt. if i know i’m going to be SWEATING & i want to wear a tshirt, i’ll wear something looser & actually thicker cotton in either black or white. i’ve had top surgery so i can wear tanks without stress but if binding is a concern, both& has some great tanks for ppl who bind.
if you do want to be more dressed up than a short/t-shirt combo, the answer is & will always be linen. a short sleeved linen button up (from really anywhere you like that fits well — uniqlo has both men’s & women’s in many earthtones for under $50!) is The Key. put it on as an overshirt over your t-shirt or wear it buttoned halfway in a french tuck. i prefer to stay away from patterns & bright colors bc it can easily look a little zany, but do your thing there. i have a few pairs of linen pants i also love, especially for things like taking my wife on a date, or if it’s just a cool day/nighttime activity etc. literally just… linen button ups & linen pants, even drawstring pants! if you wanna ball out, theory makes my favorite linen pants, but oak + fort is a close second & much more affordable. everlane also has all of these pieces in mens & womens & is very high quality!
idk ur shoe situation but two great options are always birkenstocks (the rubber ones are under $50 & v comfortable) and/or all white low air force 1s. a good all white sneaker is a great starter sneaker & will always go with everything. i myself prefer dunk lows but u gotta rly be wanting to invest in some sneakers to do that lmao but if you are! they’re cool
lastly, small accessories go a long way! i have a few chains, a small hoop earring, a ring (& my wedding ring but lol i don’t think we can count that as an accessory), & then sunglasses i love. i have a Beautiful watch from my wife but literally just a watch w a normal watch face & a leather band is better than nothing or wearing a smart watch out when there’s quite literally no need lol. a good baseball cap, either plain black or from a cool brand (mine for this summer is aime leon dore) is both a nice addition & also practical. do not & i mean Do Not carry around a backpack unless u Absolutely have to lol. masc cross body bags or canvas totes are much better if u need a bag
also:
- you can find tons of overshirts thrifting or at outlets! since they don’t have to fit perfectly it can be a great place to look for them
- i live & die by a good pair of light wash denim in the summer. allsaints & madewell always have beautiful denim, but you can look at levi’s as well, or thrift!
- tailoring is not expensive!!!!!!!!! if u find pants u love that are too long, just get them hemmed! fr it’s like $10, everyone needs a good tailor
- never underestimate a good sweatshort/t-shirt/overshirt/birks moment to go get a cup of coffee or something… 10/10
- i have definitely not been in a place financially to do this in the past, so pls take this w a grain of salt & of course do what’s best for your budget, but higher quality, simple fabrics ethically made are ALWAYS going to be best. they’ll last longer & keep their fit. launder ur clothes carefully too! hang drying pants & heavy cotton will get their lifespan to extend. & it’s 100% cool to find brands u love & stick to them. if u find a piece u like, u can get it in a few colors, rather than trying to find a bunch of other stuff. quality > quantity, capsule wardrobes are easier to wear & maintain
- some ppl whose fashion i like rn: courtney williams, arike ogunbowale, shanice van de sanden. & sue bird knows how to wear a short/button up summer set with the best of them. kristen kish Obviously. (& also i love mal from the queer ultimatum lmfaoooo)
- wear whatever u want, just not cargo shorts :)

The Feminine Appearance Part 1 - Modesty in More Detail
Modesty, unfortunately, has developed a connotation of only being one specific type of way: boring, unflattering, frumpy, grandma-ish. We've been taught that if you're modest, you're automatically seen as unattractive and/or pretty girls and beautiful women can't be modest.
While modesty is super important and needs to be/should be followed by a traditional feminine woman, that doesn't mean you have an excuse to neglect your appearance and look unattractive.
You do not need to look like your grandma to be modest, so put the mumu down. Modesty doesn't not equal frumpiness or is the antithesis of fashionable dressing. It simply means that we do not need to show off all of our good to look attractive.
Take me for example. I went through the entire of college thinking that in order to be seen as attractive, I needed to wear the shortest shorts possible and show off my chest at any opportunity. Now I know however, that a dress that goes to just below my collarbone and is knee length is still just as attractive if you know how to wear it correctly.
A feminine, traditional woman can't neglect her appearance. It's our duty to be put together, to stay attractive, and be pleasant to be around. We owe it to ourselves, our husbands, our community. And it starts with one of the easiest things to change about yourself, your clothes.
One of the number one things I see that work to ruin modesty is not dressing for your body type or just opting for the baggy, 3 sizes too big garment. Flowy is fine, but baggy is going to do all the wrong things to your feminine shape. Don't show it off, but don't completely hide from it as well. There's a balance, cinch in your waist with a belt or wear an outfit that you brought to a tailor to fit you just right.
The other main thing I see is your clothing being very plain. Simplicity is nice in certain circumstances but in order to be attractive and modest, you need to start playing with patterns and fabrics, change things up a bit. You don't need to always wear solid colors in cotton or wool. Opt for maybe a floral pattern or fabric like satin or chiffon.
Here's some key items that help elevate your modesty and keep you away from looking old:
Accessories. Don't let your clothes just speak for themselves. Make yourself look put together, wear a necklace or some nice earrings to make the rest of you pop. My favorites are usually a simple chain or one with a subtle pendant and smaller hoop earrings. Wear a neck scarf, sunglasses that flatter you face shape.
Slip/Satin skirts
Matching Sets
Longline or tailored blazers
Jean skirts IF done correctly, with a raw hem or slightly distressed with a tailored fit
Layering pieces. Have a spaghetti strap top or dress you want to wear? Throw a t-shirt underneath.
Play with patterns and fabrics, don't just stick with plain white or black cotton
Graphic t-shirts. If you have them, wear them with a skirt and a cardigan to jazz it up!
Smock tops, especially for ladies like me with larger chests
Modest fashion that is flattering and age appropriate is sometimes SO difficult to find in standard retail stores! I promise that you can find something almost everywhere, but digging for those holy grail items can be exhausting.
So here are some stores, in person and online, that I find hold the most amount of modest products so you don't waste your time:
Uniqlo - this is where I bought my FAVORITE house dress, plus is a great store for basics
H&M - particularly their sections on business wear has great blouses, skirts, and dresses
Primark - this can be hit and miss but the dresses are wonderful
Ivy City and Co. - an online boutique based in Utah, has great items and adorable Mommy and Me matching sets!
NeeSee's Dresses - caters specifically to modest fashion, a bit pricier but so worth it
JC Penney and Kohls - they're everywhere and they have pretty much everything under the sun you would want, dress, skirts, loose pants, and blouses!
Amazon - I try not to shop here for clothes all that often because quality can vary, but if it has a good review, it's typically great and has great variety!

i’m taking a pattern from this shirt i bought at uniqlo in berlin in 2018 and i’m going to make it slightly longer and maybe slightly fuller in the front and do a mockup probably but then i want a version in this blue silk i have. idk if i really even have enough of the silk to do this but it would look SO fucking cool. and i have these drop front linen pants that i’m hemming. and i think that could easily be a Look for a wedding whose dress code is “no specific dress code, it is possible many people will decide to dress semi-formal, please no white dresses” but if i don’t get it done i’ll just wear my blue silk dress again that i wore to the last wedding i went to

Hii, this is a weird question but would u mind sharing some work outfit inspo for summer? It’s my first time doing an internship and I don’t find much inspo for summer , I’m scared of dressing too casual or not professional enough, esp in Europe where it’s more emphasized 😭
hi! first off, congrats on your first internship!!! 🎉🎊🥳 i did my first internship in the summer too so i understand the struggle of dress code at a new company in this season 🥲 but don't worry, there are lots of ways to look professional without sweating buckets 💦 hope this helps! ☺️
🌻☀️ Professional / Business Casual Fits for Summer ☀️🌻
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
formal slacks/skirts — you can wear them with your lightest summer tops to dress them up for a more professional setting! (alternatively, plain black or gray yoga pants can look deceptively like formal slacks but are waaay more comfy! 👀)
accessories — you could show up in a plain (but well-fitted) t-shirt + plain black yoga pants and already look really put together with just a few accessories! like a dainty necklace + earring set for example! (depending on your internship maybe a bracelet or rings could be inconvenient, like for me personally i HATE typing with anything around my hands but they do look really cute 🥺)
dress shoes — if you have strong feet (or can sit down most of the time at your internship and don't work in a lab/warehouse/etc. where certain footwear may be required) you can do a light blouse + jeans or the aforementioned t-shirt + slacks/skirt combo with dress shoes! 👠
uniqlo — or any professional/business casual clothes that are made of light, summery materials, i just really love their silk blouses and loose-fitting/airy slacks 😍
cardigans/light blazer/slightly oversized long-sleeved button-up — like, yes, it's summer, but in my experience, that's exactly when everyone cranks up the AC and suddenly you're shivering like it's late autumn 🤧 so it's just nice to have an extra layer handy and it pairs really well with summer dresses!!
hope this helps get you started! once you go in a few days, you'll be able to get a vibe check as well to inform you better than i ever could 😉 if you're ever uncertain, don't hesitate to ask your HR department either! (they might even give you a dress code as part of your orientation) best of luck at your internship, lovely!! you're gonna do so great 💛🌼

Week 13/52: March 27th - April 2nd 2023 | Analog Coffee 🥐🌱
Visited a beautiful coffee shop next to Calgary Farmer’s Market called Analog Coffee right before my afternoon shift. It was so pretty inside!!!! I think the photos speak for itself. Got an almond croissant and it was super crispy, though a bit dry, but had a yummy filling. A strong almond scent too, I like!

racher was like ‘I have thought about your office lady characters and their office lady fashion and I was like ‘yo I love outsourcing details’ so here are the notes I took from racher’s presentation
Shio:
Epitome of Japanese office worker; white collared button up, blazer, knee length skirts
High school loafers (lmao)
No makeup
Mob character
Hiyoko:
Starts out super femme, starts getting more masc through series
Apparently dressed exactly like racher’s coworker but less casual; can sometimes skirt the line of whats considered professional wear
Openly stylish
Different color blazers; same outfit different palette
Heels instead of loafers
Subtle touches; nails painted (rare in Japan), wears jewelry (either earrings or necklace, not both at the same time, very simple)
Subtle makeup; no lipstick, just lightly tinted gloss; hint of eyeliner (matches nails), hint of mascara, not too bold (she has to meet clients); foundation & concealer (full face, woman in sales) (😔)
Dyes & perms hair—naturally black, dyed auburn
More standard professional when out making sales
Doesn’t shop at Aoyama because her standards are higher (more local shops)
Might wear GU casually, probably wears GU-styled clothes from nicer brands
When starting to dress more masc, starts switching from skirts to pants; blazers were from a set with a skirt and don’t always match the pants, but she makes it look fashionable
At end, still wears heels (more about being mega fashionable less about gender)
Yuki:
Hair clip gets her eliminated
Late graduation gets her eliminated
Pants get her eliminated
She buys all her clothes from GU instead of Aoyama because her standards are lower
Also shops at Uniqlo
Doesn’t wear sweatshirts at work—is trying to dress well, but doesn’t understand what dressing well means in a professional Japanese concept
Sneakers or socks/sandals
DRESSES HERSELF MORE LIKE A TOKUSATSU CHARACTER
No makeup (starts out with kind of bad eyeliner because she thinks wearing makeup is a professional adult thing to do, stops after getting a job because it’s too much effort) (also got her eliminated)
Meihui:
Vibe: established secretary, nobody cares what she wears (she can do whatever she wants)
Mimics xianxia fashion with modern clothes; layers, long cardigans, long skirts, dresses with belts, flow-y pants; reads as casual, cool, and stylish
Looks more fashionable than Yuki (this is so sad)
There are days where she looks like she’s stylish and days where she looks like a 40 year old mother because of what she wears
If she did her hair differently she would look more fashionable
Never wears makeup
I forget how much of this I actually put in the text but Yuki graduated late because of health reasons, which is why she is starting the job hunt late and is only getting her first job in the early-mid 20s range instead of the solidly early 20s range; on top of that, racher really outlined all the details that would get her eliminated in the interview process of more respectable companies. the thing is, shio, being the Epitome Of An Office Lady, would’ve been able to point out stuff like hair accessories being a turn off for interviewers and how wearing skirts to interviews is more preferred (😔) but yuki was determined to be independent and tried to do everything herself and ended up getting immediately eliminated from the more respectable companies which fed into her desperation and made her super vulnerable to working for a black company because they don’t actually care about the subtle cues for professionalism (lol). after yuki decided to quit she actually talks to shio and gets tips on how to get hired at an actual company (take off the hair clip and just keep it in your pocket if you want to take it with you, if they ask about graduation say you took a gap year, etc.) AND she also has meihui who knows a bunch of stuff from when she transmigrated and had to cram all of modern japanese office culture in her heard immediately

27!
27. What's your favorite go-to outfit?
Hm... default for just doing errands or maybe hanging out with friends is usually t-shirt + sweater vest (depends on weather), black pants (often Uniqlo U straight leg black pants) and then Nike Killshots. I feel like I have worn this combination many ways.
Otherwise I like to wear black Chelsea boots or lug sole shoes if sneakers are too casual... I like having pockets so skirts and dresses are never the go-to but if so it's often white petticoat skirt + white t-shirt
