I think symbolically, snakes represent the human world for Luz, and her mother! Especially since a snake around the staff is symbolic of the medical field, which fits with Camila being a veterinarian, and how Luz had pet snakes back home...

stan and ben friendship headcanons?

They don’t have a ton in common, except that they’re very happy to spend the day reading. But I can’t get the image out of my head that they both unironically are super excited to go see Hootie and the Blowfish in concert in 1995, like it’s too perfect.

I know the movies made Ben a fangirl for NKOTB, but like, for gen z losers, Stan and Ben definitely have fandom fights. Like Ben would be into kpop and Stan would be like “Were it not for the laws of this land I would have slaughtered you.” But they’re both out here knowing every word to every Ariana Grande song, even though they both never shut up being like “I know she’s problematic but she’s also iconic okay let me enjoy the music I like!”

Ben is the straight you bring with you to the gay club and he knows all the songs and can dance like the best of the girls! Plus Ben “I heard what you said about gay people, that’s not cool” Hanscom is like, Stan’s number one bitch. He doesn’t really feel safe going out unless Ben’s there with him. No shade at all to Bill, but Bill will usually start making out with a twink in 5 minutes tops, so like... who’s going to watch Stan’s drink for him? It’s Ben. He’s a wingman and a guardian angel.

This is before Stan and Bill get together. And Ben can tell. But he knows Stan is kind of a bitch, so he never directly asks him if he’s in love with Bill. But he sends him Knowing looks because Ben Hanscom? Can relate to pining sis. In the meantime he’s always like “Oh God Stan Uris? The hottest sexiest smartest funniest guy I know? Hmm, I think he’s single? Shocking I know, he’s right over there.” And Stan, blushing, is like “You stop that!”

Let’s see... I think they both get into health crazes. They both try being vegan together. Ben is all “This is so good for the environment, and your body!” and Stan is like “Go on...”

They go to the Museum of Modern Art and they’re like “This is stupid. This isn’t art.” But they agree that the painting that’s just green is definitely art.

I just feel like Ben and Stan are your Smart friends who have like 5 degrees between them and they know everything about everything and their interests are really highbrow but not pretentious. They’re fancy dinner parties, but make it broke postgrads. They want to elevate pop culture to the status of high art, not exclude it from high art. They’ll argue about philosophy in the context of eating ass vs getting your ass eaten. They watch breadtube.

Like, the way I see it, every other friend Stan has (except Bev) like is lowkey in love with him? So with Ben it’s a nice thing to just have a guy friend. And that’s super weird for Stan, being “bros” with someone, and the first few times they hung out alone together Stan was afraid it was going to be awkward but this is Haystack we’re talking about. Obviously it was going to be awkward. But they did what they do best, be awkward together, and they have a lot of fun being broke as shit desperate grad students with rabies in New York.

Are the Emperor’s Coven uniforms inspired by Plauge Doctors?

Recently, I’ve noticed that the uniforms worn by the members of the emperor’s coven wear uniforms which look very similar to a 17th Century plague doctor’s.

The uniforms look very similar, from the large cloaks, to the gloves, and of course, the biggest similarity being the bird like masks which obscure the whole face. The biggest difference between the two is their colour, as the members of the Emperor’s coven are all dressed in shades of white, yellow, and blue.

From the scouts, to Warden Wrath, and even Lilith during her debut, almost all members of the coven have worn costumes, or at least masks, which resemble that of the plague doctors.

I’m unsure if this is just a coincidence, or just a bit of inspiration with no meaning, but it’s interesting to theorise what it could mean, based off the role of a Plague Doctor.

Plague Doctors used to treat victims of the bubonic plague, specifically in European nations. They had many practices, such as bloodletting. A majority of the time, they never truly nursed their patients back to health, causing their deaths. More often than not, this was because they either were not real doctors, or offered a false cure to the sickly, at a high cost.

Belos may dress them like this, as a twisted little way of showing his true colours, but, no witch would be able to tell. The members of the emperor’s coven claim to be “healing” the witches of Wild Magic, when in reality, they are the ones who are putting the citizens of the Boiling Isles into danger. Their cure is fake, and on the day of unity, all of the witches with a digit, including the members of the Emperor’s Coven, will perish, because the coven system, and sigils were a false cure.

Just like the ones the plague doctors would offer.

I don’t fully believe this theory myself, as it’s also highly speculated that Belos was alive, in the human realm, during a very different time period. And since we know that BI time and Earth time is roughly the same, there is no way to justify it like that.

Hunter & Beauty Standards

I think it's interesting people try to claim that Hunter is a "Stereotypical good-looking white character" because I can guarantee if most people met someone who looks like this in real life, they would not see him as good-looking.

He has thick eyebrows. An ear notch. A larger nose shape. Large, dark circles underneath his eyes. A tooth gap. A notch taken out of his ear. physical scars on his face. And that is before he is possessed by Belos, and has most of his body covered in scar tissue.

These traits are not stereotypically seen as good looking. (They can, of course, be seen as generally good looking still, speaking as someone with some of these traits myself.) They are not the "Beauty Standard", which not many TOH characters overall fit.

I know someone can word this a LOT better than me, but. Hunter never fit the stereotypical descriptions of beauty- so why do some people pretend he does?

I don’t think Alador and Odalia got married out of love. At least, on Odalia’s part.

Odalia never references Alador as her husband, only as her business partner. The move to marry him was likely to benefit their business.

Even their kids may not have been fully born out of love either, but rather as to just give the company a heir or two.
