Something about the idea that voting for president only matters if you live in a swing state, and that all the people in blue states or red states can indulge themselves in principled nonparticipation because the outcomes are preordained, strikes me as akin to playing with fire.
Is it really coherent to say "both sides are awful, write in Mickey Mouse or burn your ballot or just stay home and get drunk, unless you live in Pennsylvania, in which case maybe consider taking one for the team and compromising yourself by voting for the lesser evil?" Is that really the message that will lead to a preferable outcome?
What it sounds like to me is a sign that 1) you take your local electorate for granted, and 2) you see avoiding the worst case scenario as somebody else's problem.
I remember when Florida was a swing state. I also remember when Pennsylvania wasn't.

Brooch
Marcus & Co. (New York City, New York)
c.1900
This exquisite brooch is one of the few extant examples of plique-à-jour jewelry made by the New York firm of Marcus & Co., whose reputation at its prime rivaled that of Tiffany & Co. Herman Marcus (1828–99), a German–born and Dresden–trained jeweler, arrived in New York in 1850 and worked for a number of prestigious firms before establishing Marcus & Co. in 1892. Following his death, the company continued under the direction of his two sons, George Elder Marcus and William Marcus.
The brooch is a superb example of Marcus & Co.’s work in plique-à-jour enameling, in which the "cells" of color have no backing, allowing light to shine through the transparent enamel, thereby creating the effect of stained glass. One of the only jewelry firms of its day to succeed at this challenging technique, Marcus & Co. followed the lead of such innovative French designers as René Lalique. The sensitive 3-dimensional sculpting of the sweet pea blossoms and leaves, as well as the naturalistic coloring of the enamels, reflects the Art Nouveau aesthetic that prevailed at the turn of the century. Indeed, close parallels can be drawn with the brilliant naturalistic work of Louis Comfort Tiffany, whose oeuvre is so well represented in the Met’s collection.

REPORT: UNITED STATES OCCUPATION CONTINUES SUCKING WEALTH OUT OF EASTERN SYRIA
The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) is reporting that the American military occupation in eastern Syria continues to suck wealth and resources from the West Asian nation.
According to SANA News, the US occupation is stealing wealth from the areas it continues to illegally occupy in the Hasakah province of eastern Syria, using its forces to load tankers and trucks with Syrian resources including oil and grains.
Local sources in the Al-Yaarubiya countryside, near the Iraqi border, in the Al-Hasakah Governate, told SANA that a US-occupation convoy consisting of 69 vehicles, including 45 tankers loaded with Syrian oil, along with 24 trucks loaded with grains stolen from silos in the Hasakah province, left Syrian territory through the illegal Mahmoudiyah crossing headed for US bases in Iraqi territory.
The report was published by journalist Nisreen Othman on April 22nd, 2024.

Welp Senate officially passed the bill to ban TikTok.
I know a lot of people on this app hate TikTok, and believe me I get where that is coming from, but this is a huge violation of the first amendment and has horrifying implications for free speech.
It’s also very telling that they’re doing this right now. TikTok is one of the biggest ways that people in Palestine have to show the rest of the world what is happening. The government wants to take away this access and information.
It’s also one of the fastest ways people all around the world spread information. This is what a modern day book burning looks like.
The bill is going in front of the president tomorrow. He has the power to veto it, so write and call as soon as your can:
The number for the White House is:
202 456-1111

The continuous bombardment and the ongoing genocide pose a significant threat to their well-being. What pains me even more is that due to the lack of medications in Gaza, my Mom, who is a type 1 Diabetis patiant and was scheduled for an urgent eye surgery, have had no access to insulin or any medical care for the past 3 months. Some of my family members sought refuge in the southernmost part of Gaza (Rafah) in tents. However, my parents, and sisters have no alternative place to stay, forced to remain in the Nusierat refugee camp, which is now the subject of continuous severe bombardment since christmas started.” Am on my knees requesting for your donations. Please help where possible. الصراع الإسرائيلي الفلسطيني: لقد حان الوقت لإسكات القنابل والرصاص حتى يمكن إيجاد حل ويتمكن الناس من العيش في سلام.
Goal: USD 700 ◇◇◇ Link to donate

Calls for Action, Call Your Reps: 4/23/24
This is USA-specific, as that is the place I live and know.
Find your elected officials. Remember, emails are good, but calls make the most impact. Suggested verbiage and strategies for calling your elected officials. We’ve recently seen politicians, including Biden, start to pivot towards the “Israel is increasing danger to itself” argument in public statements.
There's a LOT on the floor this week, but this is what I'm going to encourage:
Call your senators. Aid to Israel has already passed the house, but has not yet been voted on by the Senate. Call TODAY.
Use this script:
Israel has been engaging in human rights violations, as confirmed by US State investigations, even prior to Oct. 7th. In that regard, it is a violation of the Leahy (lay-hee) law for the US to provide funding to the battalions and units accused credibly of these violations. With commentary from Netanyahu and his government opposing the threat of sanctions against SPECIFIC units and ongoing refusal to cooperate with United States demands to increase aid and reduce civilian casualties in Gaza, it is unlikely that they will be discretionary with the $26 billion in aid that the House passed.
As a constituent, I strongly oppose the passing of aid to Israel until strong, practical conditions are placed on that aid, as the existing process has proven ineffective. It is unreasonable to continue providing aid to Israel while sanctioning Iran when we have seen Israel instigating this third front in what appears to be a bid by Netanyahu to secure US funding through endangering his own people by attacking the Iranian consulate in Syria.
To support my blogging so I can move out of my parents’ house, I do have a ko-fi. Alternately, you can donate to one of the charities I list in this post.

MATTHEW MILLER ON MASS GRAVES FOUND IN GAZA HOSPITAL: "WE'RE INQUIRING WITH THE GOVERNMENT OF ISRAEL"
📹 US State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller responds to a question about recent discovery of hundreds of bodies in three mass graves at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, in the south of Gaza: "We're inquiring with the government of Israel."
When confronted with crimes against humanity, the Biden administration inquires about the issue with the government in question while simultaneously providing the munitions killing Palestinians on the dime of the American taxpayer.
