he post-Joe McCarthy era and the candidacy of Barry Goldwater once prompted liberal political scientist Richard Hofstadter to chronicle a supposedly long-standing right-wing “paranoid style” of conspiracy-fed extremism.

But far more common, especially in the 21st century, has been a left-wing, hysterical style of inventing scandals and manipulating perceived tensions for political advantage.

Or, in the immortal words of Barack Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.”

The 2008 economic emergency crested on September 7, with the near collapse of the home mortgage industry.

Obama took office on January 20, 2009, more than four months after the meltdown. In that interim, the officials had finally restored financial confidence and plotted a course of economic recovery.

No matter. The Obama administration never stopped hyping the financial meltdown as if it had just occurred. That way, it rammed through Obamacare, massive deficit spending, and the vast expansion of the federal government. All that stymied economic growth and recovery for years.

In 2016, Donald Trump was declared Hitler-like and an existential threat to democracy.

Amid this derangement syndrome, any means necessary to stop him were justified: the Russian collusion hoax, impeachment over a phone call, or the Hunter laptop disinformation farce.

Eventually, the left sought to normalize the once unthinkable: removing the leading presidential candidate from state ballots and indicting him in state and local courts.

Nothing was off limits—not forging a federal court document, calling for a military coup, rioting on Inauguration Day, or radically changing the way Americans voted in presidential elections.

In October 2017, allegations surfaced about serial sexual predation by liberal cinema icon Harvey Weinstein.

The #MeToo furor immediately followed.

At first, accusers properly outed dozens of mostly liberal celebrities, actors, authors, and CEOs for their prior and mostly covered-up sexual harassment and often assault.

But soon, the once legitimate movement had morphed into general hysteria. Thousands of men (and women) were persecuted for alleged offenses, often sexual banter or rude repartee, committed decades prior.

#MeToo jumped the shark with the left-wing effort to take down conservative Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Would-be accusers surfaced from his high school days, 35 years earlier, but without any supporting evidence or witnesses for their wild, lurid charges.

#MeToo hysteria ended when too many liberal grandees were endangered. Most dramatically, former Joe Biden senatorial aide Tara Reade came forward during the 2020 campaign cycle with charges that front-runner Joe Biden had once sexually assaulted her—and was trashed by the liberal media.

The outbreak of COVID-19 in the United States during the winter of 2020 prompted an even greater hysteria.

Without scientific evidence, federal health czars Anthony Fauci and Francis Collins were able to convince the Trump administration to shut down the economy in the country’s first national quarantine.

Suddenly, it became a thought crime to question the wisdom of six-foot social distancing, of mandatory mask wearing, of the Wuhan virology lab’s origin of the COVID virus, or of off-label use of prescription drugs.

Left-wing politicians and celebrities, from Hillary Clinton and Gavin Newsom to Jane Fonda, all blurted out the political advantages that the lockdowns offered—from recalibrating capitalism and health care to ensuring the 2020 defeat of Donald Trump.

The COVID hysteria magically ended when Joe Biden won the 2020 election. Suddenly, the lies about the bat or pangolin origins of the virus faded. The damage from the quarantines could no longer be repressed. And herd immunity gradually mitigated the epidemic.

The lockdown caused untold economic chaos, suicides, and health crises.

One result was the 120 days of looting, arson, death, destruction, and violence spawned by Antifa and Black Lives Matter in the aftermath of the tragic death of George Floyd while in police custody in May 2020.

Suddenly, a hysterical lie took hold: American police were waging war against black males.

The details around Floyd’s sudden death—he was in the act of committing a felony, resisting arrest, suffering from coronary artery disease and the after-effects of COVID, and being high on dangerous drugs—were off limits.

The riot toll reached $2 billion in property damage, over 35 deaths, and 1,500 injured law enforcement officers. A federal courthouse, a police precinct, and a historic church were torched.

Police forces were defunded. Emboldened left-wing prosecutors nullified existing laws.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion commissars spread throughout American higher education as meritocracy came under assault.

Racial essentialism triumphed. Racially segregated dorms, campus spaces, and graduations were normalized.

Everything from destroying the southern border to dropping SAT requirements for college admission followed.

Sometimes real, sometimes hyped crises lead to these contrived left-wing hysterias—like the January 6 violent “armed insurrection” or the “fascist” “ultra-MAGA” threat.

Otherwise, the progressive movement cannot enact its unpopular agendas. So it must scare the people silly and gin up chaos to destroy its perceived enemies—any crisis it can.

A New Beginning

Religion was a thing that has been around you throughout your prison life. Hearing the quiet prayers from other people on the unit with you and the occasional preacher would stop by and talk to you about your situation and how you felt about knowing you would at the time be dying by the cocktail of drugs that the state will inject into your arm.

You never looked at death as a thing to be feared. Death was a thick fog that lingers in the distance, slowing catching up to you over the years sometimes. No matter how you would die- in prison or while being free, death is an old friend that will always be there to take you to whatever your fate was.

The conversations you've had with the prison Chaplin had more meaning to you than the older man will ever realize. The discussions of forgiveness and letting go has haunted your thoughts as you planned for this moment.

The soft prick of Billy's blade took you back into the reality that you're currently in. Small droplets of blood pebbled out of your skin as you attempted to not react to the feeling. The once welcoming smell of his cologne now only made you feel sick.

The knife that you had behind your back was still present, you hoped that you didn't have to use it but your gut is telling you otherwise. Billy leans closer to your ear, whispering to you.

"Any last words before I gut you like a fish?"

His voice was cold, causing your heart to beat faster. Were you going to actually die right now? Tara looked at the both of you, her hands weakly attempting to stop the blood flow as he waited for your to speak.

"Here's my last words.. See you in hell, bastard!"

With your adrenaline soaring through your veins, you took your knife, stabbing Billy in the stomach repeatedly. Billy lets go of you before falling onto the ground, holding on to the gaping wounds on his torso.

You moved towards Dale, shaking as you placed the knife on the corner book self. Dale kept his gun at Billy before quickly picking up Billy's knife up. Dale quickly takes off his coat before wrapping it around Tara tightly as an attempt of stopping the blood flow.

Stu took out his cellphone, calling the cops. Everything felt like a limbo where time felt slow, yet moving rapidly as the sirens echoed from the outside, red and blue lights flashed as police officers and paramedics quickly ushered Tara and Billy to the local hospital. Dale, Stu, and you told the officers what had happened.

"Do you have any other information about what happened?"

The baby faced cop asked you while a paramedic bandaged up your cut. Dale was beside you as he held the weighted grey blanket around you.

"I'm not sure how legal this is but I have the whole thing recorded. This should hopefully help you with the investigation.."

You pulled out your cellphone to show the cop the video still being recorded. You pressed the stop icon before following the instructions and handing over your phone to the cop.

"Kid, you really recorded the whole thing? As your lawyer, this potentially can be a help.. as someone whose known you for twenty years, I'm impressed with your wit."

Dale gave a genuine smile to you, causing you to give a faint smile back. The paramedic tending you tells you that you're good to go before cleaning up the bloodied gauze. You felt a wave of calm enter your body as you walked with Dale. For the first time in over twenty years, youve felt something that was different than the coldness of revenge, it was the warmth relief of peace.

ONE YEAR LATER

It was a year since you last saw Billy, with the fingerprints he left behind and your video, he's currently awaiting trial. You knew that Billy was most likely going to never see the light of day again between the murder charges and the two assault charges for you and Tara, he's looking at death.

The thing that actually surprised you was seeing Stu turn himself in nine months later, claiming that the guilt caused him to do so. Stu decided to take a plea deal of 30 years.

Tara made a full recovery, still helping people in situations like the both of you. You helped her through her recovery and fixing the lobby for her. As a token of her appreciation, she's made you her second in command.

You now help Tara give recently released people a chance to have the new beginning that Tara and now you have. Every so often, you spend late nights with Tara, helping each other out with coping with what happened.

Dale keeps in contact with you every week or two, between Billy and Stu's legal updates and just personal conversations of how both of you are doing. Dale recently told you about a book he was going to write about your situation. You offered to give him whatever information he wanted in regards to your relationship with them and being locked up.

You still worked at the bakery, finding your family in the coworkers you've worked with. CJ was like a younger brother to you, constantly joking around with each other. Ray became a father figure to you, giving you advice whenever you needed it. Mark and Geraldine were like your older aunt and uncle, making sure that you're okay and not overworking yourself.

You have a scar across your throat that reminded you of that night. It was either dumb luck or some sort of divine intervention that you were still here. If Billy had cut you a few inches higher, you wouldn't be here today.

You haven't looked at the letter that Stu gave you before everything happened. It ended up being buried in your dresser drawer, mostly forgotten about until you saw a package in front of your door from Stu.

You grabbed the package before entering your apartment, locking the door behind you after placing the box onto the coffee table. You took your box cutter, opening the box carefully as you see stacks of money in the box with a small note with Stus familiar handwriting saying "for your new beginning."

You quickly went to your drawer, digging out your prison release forms, the faded picture of the three of you. You found the letter behind the picture. Opening the envelope, you feel yourself become curious as to what Stu had to say.

"If you're reading this, one of two things has happened. One, I'm dead and you ended up surviving. Or two, we both made it out alive tonight.

If I'm alive when you're reading this, you may have known that I decided to turn myself in. I know that no apology will ever convey how sorry I am for letting you take the blame for me and me leaving you to rot in prison.

I've always loved you, I still love you to this day. When I saw you at the bakery the other day, I felt myself feeling the same feelings I've felt when I first saw you all these years ago at the movie store.

I will be sending you money within the year that will be for you to live your life as free as you're meant to be. This will never be able to pay you for lost time or your love. I believe it's the least I can do for you.

Go to culinary school, follow your dreams. You deserve it. May we meet again, Stu"

On the bottom of the letter, there was a well faded picture of you and Stu that was taken when the three of you started dating. Billy took the picture of him kissing your cheek as you're in his lap, arms around his neck.

Did Brie always had gay rumors about her? I first noticed her in United States of Tara and even then, she pinged for me but I had no idea about any rumors about her.

Yeah she’s had rumours about her for a loooong time, though obviously not to the extent that they’re at now. Probably towards the end of United States of Tara they really started up and people were beginning to discuss it. The Craig Ferguson interviews were used as reference quite a bit I’m pretty sure 😂

Tara Badie, Senior Director of Brand Strategy, Showcases Tamagotchi Pix in Video Interview

If you don’t already know of Tara Badie, then you’re about to! Tara Badie is a Senior Director of Brand Strategy at Bandai America and is a crucial figure in the Tamagotchi lineup in North America dating back to the Tamagotchi Friends.Tara recently joined Fred Fishkin of Techstination, a daily radio and online report on customer technology for a Zoom interview that has been posted to YouTube!

Tara introduces the Tamagotchi Pix and even gives us some footage of the actual device, how exciting! The key features she speaks about are the touch buttons, the camera, and the enhanced gameplay. Tara shows off how you can now pet your Tamagotchi on screen with the new touch buttons, and how you’ll actually be able to bathe your Tamagotchi and help them get cleaned up with these buttons too!

You can use the camera button on the top of your Tamagotchi Pix to not only take pictures with your camera that your Tamagotchi character can appear in, but also take screenshots! Tara notes that pictures can only be sent to other Tamagotchi Pix devices, and not connected to other sources. The Pix will be able to hold up to 100 pictures, and users can delete select pictures once their memory is full. With the camera you get to explore in the real world as you are out and about, your character will explore with you, and at times their friends will pop up in the real world! This feature is available in the explore menu of the Tamagotchi Pix. Speaking of which, it looks like the menu has a small redesign and features two pages of icons.

The Tamagotchi website will feature missions starting this summer that you can complete. Once you succeed in the mission you’ll get a Tama Code (which is a QR code) that will give you exclusive items and more.

We did notice that the animations are incredibly smooth from the live footage, it appears that Bandai may be moving away from the pixelated animations and are really upgrading them! The host, Fred, asks about the demographic of the device. Tara informs Fred that although the device is marketed to children 6 years of age or older, there is a diverse Tamagotchi community that really is excited about everything Tamagotchi!

With this many features battery life must be a concern, Tara informs viewers that the Tamagotchi On achieved roughly 10 days of battery life, and the Tamagotchi Pix will actually get less battery life thanks to the camera feature. The battery life should be approximately 7 days, so we are looking at a 30% reduction in battery life but of course that is all based on use. The Pix will take two AAA batteries, which Tara Badie thinks is a bit unfortunate; and we agree!

We really love this new feature that Tara goes into detail about. The Pix will feature a memory book that you can create through your Tamagotchi’s life. Seven days after your Tamagotchi grows up until adulthood, they will ask to go back to Tamagotchi Planet. You will be able to drop three pictures of your character into a photo book along with customize items that you’ll be able to paint. You’ll see your Tamagotchi character return to Tamagotchi Planet on screen reviewing the photo book, and then your Tamagotchi will choose which egg to send to you to raise next! This is a feature we’ve never seen before, and are SUPER excited about!

Pix will feature a memory book so you can customize items and color items after 7 days after adulthood the Tamagotchi asks to go back to Tamagotchi Planet, you drop in 3 pictures of your character and your Tamagotchi goes back to the planet and the Tamagotchi character reviews the photo book and sends back the egg it believes is right to raise next!

Bandai is really excited about the distribution of the Pix, noting that pre-orders are already live for Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart in the United States. The Pix carries an MSRP of $59.99 USD and will be available in stores this July! Tara also notes that two styles will be joining the family “in early spring” but that would be now, wouldn’t it?

Lastly Tara stresses the durability of the device, and informs viewers that how-to videos will be published on the official Tamagotchi website around launch. These videos will cover the new features of the device to help new caretakers learn more about the Tamagotchi Pix features. This is the first multi-lingual product that Tara has worked on, and she’s super excited! Users will be able to choose their language (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese) once they boot up their device. The language will be asked before the user enters in their name, and their birthdate.

We must say that the interview really gave us a lot of information and some gameplay on the Tamagotchi Pix! We still have lots of questions that we want answers to, and we’ll be sure to get them soon! Be sure to check out the full interview here!

60 years of The Avengers

Sixty years ago today (Jan. 7, 1961), a gritty crime drama series called The Avengers debuted on the commercial ITV stations in the UK. Devised by future Doctor Who co-creator Sydney Newman, the series starred Ian Hendry as Dr. David Keel, who, after avenging the murder of his wife by drug dealers, finds himself the reluctant partner of a mysterious government agent named John Steed, played by Patrick Macnee.

Doesn’t sound like The Avengers we know - that came later! During the first season (all but a handful of episodes of which are lost), Keel was the lead character and Steed didn’t even appear in a couple of episodes! The stories generally dealt with fighting crime. When a strike forced the season to end ahead of schedule, Hendry left to pursue film roles, Macnee was promoted to lead, and he was assigned a rotating series of partners. one of whom was Dr. Cathy Gale, played by established UK film star Honor Blackman. Soon, Steed’s other partners (Venus Smith and Dr. Martin King) were pushed aside and, with the addition of more fantastical plots and spy action (i.e. “The White Dwarf” which involved the earth allegedly being set for destruction by a killer rock from outer space), the show took off like a shot. (Patrick and Honor even recorded a hit single, “Kinky Boots”, during this time!) Cathy Gale was considered a trailblazer for the depiction of female action heroes on screen, influencing (among other characters) Space Agent Sara Kingdom (a short-term companion of the First Doctor in Doctor Who), the on-screen depiction of female sleuth Honey West in the US series of the same title, and likely also had an impact on Modesty Blaise, Peter O’Donnell’s iconic comic strip superspy.

Internationally, it wasn’t until 1965 that The Avengers became a thing, with its move from videotaped to filmed production and resulting higher production values and, more importantly, with Blackman having returned to films (specifically an obscure movie called Goldfinger, playing a character who was in many respects Cathy Gale with the serial number filed off), and after a false start with a miscast actress being let go after completing an episode, Diana Rigg joined as Mrs. Emma Peel. Her electric chemistry with Macnee and even more ramping up of the fantasy elements (such as the recurring robotic villains The Cybernauts), plus the show later moving to colour production, made it a 1960s icon.

Of course all good things had to come to an end. Rigg left the show to pursue her film career and Canadian actress Linda Thorson joined as Tara King, the first of Steed’s partners allowed to openly romance him (Cathy and Emma’s relationship with him was more implied and off-screen - not too dissimilar to the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald romance in Doctor Who). Unfortunately, poor scheduling of the show in the United States led the show to be cancelled in 1969.

About 7 years later, however, The New Avengers saw Macnee return as Steed alongside two new partners - Joanna Lumley as Purdey and Gareth Hunt as Mike Gambit (with Diana Rigg making a cameo in one episode as Emma via archival footage). The show managed to recapture some of the spirit of the original, updated to the 1970s, but only managed to survive two seasons. After that, there was a radio series, attempts at an Americanized TV series revival, and the spectacularly unsuccessful late-1990s film starring Ralph Fiennes as Steed and Uma Thurman as Emma (who unfortunately had the bad timing of playing Mrs. Peel after Elizabeth Hurley basically nailed the character with Austin Powers’ Vanessa Kensington). Since then, The Avengers have been confined to comic books - though usually as “Steed and Mrs. Peel” since the title is taken by some superhero team that’s been around for a few years.

The Avengers was a groundbreaking show in many ways - but above all, it was fun to watch and the plotlines were always second fiddle to the characters. The byplay between Steed and his partners - especially Cathy and Emma - made it a joy. It’s sad that we lost both Honor and Diana in the year leading up to this milestone. But it’s still one very much celebrating.

Women’s groups and prominent feminist figures have remained almost universally silent over a former staffer’s accusation of sexual misconduct against former Vice President Joe Biden—including those individuals and groups who came to express regret for how the Democratic Party handled similar accusations made against President Bill Clinton in the 1990s.

The collective non-response from mostly Democrat-aligned groups comes as potential female running mates struggle themselves in responding to the Biden allegation, which has the potential to upend his campaign against President Donald Trump, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women in alleged incidents spanning decades. And it echoes the division among progressives when the #MeToo movement revived scrutiny of Clinton’s own alleged sexual misconduct.

The Daily Beast contacted 10 top national pro-women organizations for this story, including Emily’s List, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and the National Organization for Women. Most organizations did not respond to a detailed request for comment about the allegation by Tara Reade, a former staff assistant in Biden’s Senate office who has accused the former vice president of forcibly penetrating her with his fingers in the early 1990s. Others replied and did not provide a statement.

One prominent women’s political group cited a scheduling conflict and asked to be kept “in mind for other opportunities!” When pressed if the following day would work better, an associate said it would not, citing another scheduling conflict.

The near-total lack of acknowledgement from nearly a dozen leading pro-women organizations comes as new corroboration has emerged with respect to the allegation, which the Biden campaign has categorically denied. Neither the Biden campaign nor Reade responded to requests from The Daily Beast for comment Tuesday.

It also is taking place as prominent elected women in the Democratic Party rally to Biden’s side. On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton became the latest to offer her endorsement of Biden’s candidacy—a symbolic passing of the torch from one presidential candidate to another, but a moment that also served as a reminder of moments in recent party history when accusers were almost uniformly dismissed.

In 2017, attorney Patricia Ireland, who served as president of the National Organization for Women for the entirety of the Clinton administration, told The Washington Post that she wished she had “done more to be supportive” of Paula Jones, the former Arkansas state employee who alleges that Bill Clinton sexually harassed her during his time as governor.

“For Paula Jones, there were nice distinctions that people made: She didn’t work for him, he didn’t have the power to hire or fire her,” Ireland said at the time. “But that ignores the reality that he was a very powerful man.”

During the same period, feminist icon Gloria Steinem told The Guardian that she regretted some parts of her aggressive defense of Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, including a New York Times op-ed in which she dismissed accusations of sexual misconduct against the president. “Even if the allegations are true,” Steinem wrote in the 1998 op-ed, “the president is not guilty of sexual harassment. He is accused of having made a gross, dumb and reckless pass. President Clinton took ‘no’ for an answer.”

Steinem told the Guardian that “I wouldn’t write the same thing now because there’s probably more known about other women now. I’m not sure… What you write in one decade you don’t necessarily write in the next.”

But neither Ireland nor Steinem responded to a request for comment about Reade’s accusations against Biden. Bill Clinton has long denied Jones’ claims, settling a lawsuit she filed in 1998 for $850,000 with no apology or admission of wrongdoing.

Speaking to Fox News on Tuesday, Reade accused Hillary Clinton of “enabling a sexual predator.”

“Hillary Clinton has a history of enabling powerful men to cover up their sexual predatory behaviors and their inappropriate sexual misconduct,” Reade said in response to Clinton’s endorsement. “We don’t need that for this country. We don’t need that for our new generation coming up that wants institutional rape culture to change.”

Reade first accused Biden of digitally penetrating her in a podcast interview with journalist Katie Halper in March. Two other people, including Reade’s brother and a friend who has remained anonymous, told various outlets that Reade had told them about certain aspects of the alleged assault and her subsequent dismissal from Biden’s office over the years.

On Monday, Business Insider quoted a former neighbor of Reade’s recounting that the ex-staffer had disclosed details of the alleged assault when she lived next door to her in the mid-1990s. “This happened, and I know it did because I remember talking about it,” Lynda LaCasse, Reade’s former neighbor, told the outlet.

On April 24, Reade told The Intercept that her mother called into Larry King’s cable-news program to discuss “problems” her daughter experienced with a prominent lawmaker in 1993. In the episode, a caller from San Luis Obispo, California—where property records indicate Reade’s mother lived at the time—asked the host “what a staffer might do besides go to the press in Washington.”

“My daughter has just left there after working for a prominent senator and could not get through with her problems at all,” the caller said. “The only thing she could have done was go to the press, and she chose not to do it out of respect for him.”

Reade said on Twitter that it was her mother’s voice. “This is my mom. I miss her so much and her brave support of me.”

Biden’s defenders have argued that Reade’s story has changed over time—she previously had said only that she felt Biden had inappropriately touched her and made her feel uncomfortable. But sexual-assault victims’ advocates have noted that its common for victims to hold back on details as they recount their traumatic experiences.

Various aides to Biden have said they have no recollection of any assault incident happening. And Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said in a statement this month that “this absolutely did not happen,” and that “Vice President Biden has dedicated his public life to changing the culture and the laws around violence against women.” Bedingfield added: “He firmly believes that women have a right to be heard—and heard respectfully. Such claims should also be diligently reviewed by an independent press. What is clear about this claim: It is untrue.”

Over the past several days, the Biden campaign has signaled that it is paying additional attention to issues that disproportionately affect women. On Monday, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), one of the contenders thought to be on Biden’s shortlist of potential running mates, was a guest on a virtual town hall with black leaders on coronavirus’ impact on women of color. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), another possible running mate and former Biden rival, was also featured in a virtual forum addressing similar women’s focused issues late last week.

On Tuesday, in introducing Clinton during a virtual town hall, Biden declared she is “the woman who should be president of the United States right now.”

“I want to add my voice to the many who have endorsed you,” Clinton said during the event to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on women. “This is a moment where we need a leader, a president, like Joe Biden.” Biden, she said, has been “preparing for this moment his entire life.” The former vice president reciprocated by saying it was a “wonderful personal endorsement.”

On Monday, in offering her own backing, House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi called him a “partner for progress in the White House.”

Four years ago, women’s groups threw their weight behind Clinton’s historic campaign as the Democratic Party’s first female nominee. But they remained largely out of the primary in 2020, when an unprecedented number of women campaigned with that similar goal in mind. Still, some groups haven’t been shy about criticizing parts of Biden’s past record relating to women.

In the early stages of Biden’s campaign, Planned Parenthood Action Fund took issue with a position he previously held around support for the Hyde Amendment, a provision that sought to restrict the use of federal money for abortion. In June 2019, the group’s executive director specifically called out Biden by name, reminding him that “the Democratic Party platform is crystal-clear” around repealing Hyde. Biden later denounced his support of the amendment.

Now, as Biden faces a sexual-assault allegation as the presumptive nominee, his past record and prominent female defenders are facing a new round of scrutiny. In particular, the decision to select a female running mate delighted many party activists and women’s rights advocates when Biden announced it in March, but is taking on a new form as the Reade allegation receives additional corroboration.

Already, potential nominees are having to answer questions about the allegation. The Daily Beast recently contacted the most prominent figures thought to be considered as possible contenders about Reade’s claim, including Harris, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams.

Among the seven Democratic women’s offices reached, only Abrams commented, telling The Daily Beast that “women have the right to be heard” and adding, in part, that “nothing in the Times review suggests anything other than what I already knew: That Joe Biden is a man of highest integrity who will make all women proud as our next president.”

Young Justice Outsiders: “Princes All”

Warning, Spoilers Ahead…

Young Justice: Princes All

I accidentally spoiled myself of a small part of the episode. Of course, it was the plot element that would fill me with rage and disgust. If you’ve read my Young Justice posts, you can guess what it was – Conner’s proposal to Megan.

I’m very puzzled why the writers insist on reuniting the pair. The creators consistently display a fine attention to detail – there is no way the writers can be oblivious the manipulative, obsessive, and abusive overtones of the relationship.

Conner’s reunion with Megan is simply a case of an abused person returning to their abuser.

Is there a big Conner/Megan fanbase? Honest question. The majority of fans preferred pairing for Conner is Tim. I’ve also seen fan works pairing Conner with Bart Allen, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Cassie Sandsmark. I don’t often see fanworks supporting the Conner/Megan pairing. As for Young Justice fans, I would say Wally/Artemis, Bart/Jaime and even the very brief Dick/Zatanna have bigger fanbases.

Color me optimistic but I don’t think the marriage will happen. Conner has apparently been carrying the ring around for over a month. That’s not the actions of a man certain of his decision.

I feel Conner returned to Megan simply because that’s the only non-familial love he’s known. Besides his family and super-hero friends, Conner is pretty isolated. And he’s not great in social situations. The return to Megan, as nauseating as it is, probably feels like a return to normalcy.

I don’t know, I just have a feeling something will happen to end the relationship. Megan will either revert to her mind-ripping ways – once again breaking Conner’s trust and ending the relationship – or Megan dies by the end of the season.

The prequel issues stated Psimon is back and holding a grudge. Megan has other victims – that may or may not have recovered – that will hold grudges. If you’ve read the 1980’s Teen Titans comic you know that Psimon is a vicious and vindictive man. And he’s all about the sneak attacks. If I was Megan, I’d be worried.

The creators are rather determined to ignore any consequences for Megan’s actions and to make her life “happy-happy”. I think it’s suspicious.

A hero dies in every season of Young Justice. Season 1 had Kent Nelson. The video game had Tula. Jason Todd and Ted Kord died during the time jump. Wally died in the second season. The odds of a hero not dying during season 3 aren’t great. Why promote Megan so hard in the prequel comics? And handwave away any consequences of her actions? Could it be because Megan has a target on her back?

Maybe Psimon strikes during the wedding – causing the erasure of Megan’s mind and later death? Talk about karma!

Or it could be wishful thinking on my part as I loathe the Conner/Megan pairing!

July 4, the Watchtower

Kaldur argues with Dick: “This is no time for you to resign.”

Dick insists he’s not resigning, simply taking a leave of absence.

July 4, Markovburg, Two years later:

A young man is told of his sister’s death. Said sister is not only alive but is being experimented on: “Initiate tar protocol”.

Poor Ana’s metagene is not only activated but she is transformed into an energy-tar creature and transported to Rann.

The confused Ana-tar creature attacks members of the Justice League – Ice, Wonder Woman, Black Lightning, Superman, John Stewart, Martian Manhunter – Alanna, and Adam Strange.

Ana dies. Alana scans the creatures and realizes it is a 14 years-old earth child.

The “Young Justice Outsiders” theme is haunting and ominous. It also clearly displays Apokolips.

July 27, the Watchtower: Megan, rocking the White Martian look, praises the Alpha squad while mentioning the Gamma squad still needs training.

Steel and Black Lightning arrive at the Watchtower. The Justice League are holding a meeting to determine Black Lightning’s fate. It was his energy blast that killed poor Ana.

Surprise! Kaldur is now Aquaman and the leader of the Justice League! It would explain why Kaldur was absent from the promotional trailers and materials.

Megan is leader of Young Justice. Boo!

Bat(Kaldur), Wonder Woman, Black Lightning, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Doctor Fate, Captain Marvel, Steel, Rocket, Zatanna, Batman, Red Tornado, Plastic Man, Katana, Flash, Hardware, Batwoman, Superman, Ice, John Stewart, and the Martian Manhunter.

Hardware is from the same Milestone universe as Rocket, Icon, and Static.

Batwoman is a surprise.

Diana confirms meta-human trafficking has spread from earth to other worlds.

Batman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Black Lightning are very frustrated with the lack of progress in stopping the meta-human trafficking.

Lex Luthor is the United Nation’s secretary general – and is using the position to be a pain in the League’s rumps.

Batman is done: “But all that matters is the mission. If the UN is a roadblock to that mission, then we remove it by removing the League.”

Kaldur and Diana are not down with that plan.

Bruce and Oliver resign their League memberships.

Bruce’s resignation is accurate to the founding of the Outsiders in the comic books. Back in the 1980s, Bruce needed to rescue Lucius Fox from a foreign country. The Justice League’s agreement with the United Nations didn’t allow Batman or the League to enter said country. Bruce said “I quit”, formed the Outsiders, stormed the country, and rescued Lucius.

Hardware, Plastic Man, Katana, and Batwoman promptly resign. Katana and Kate aren’t a surprise – Kate is Bruce’s cousin and a Gotham gal and Katana has always been Team Batman. Plastic Man has been a strong ally of Batman since the late 1990s. Hardware is a surprise as he has no connection with Bruce or Oliver.

Dinah accuses Bruce, Oliver, and company of planning this in advance. Oliver asks Dinah to join the group, she refuses. It’s safe to say Dinah and Oliver are taking a break. Breaks are standard operating procedure for Ollie and Dinah so I’m not overly worried for the future of their relationship.

Jefferson swears he wasn’t part of Bruce and Ollie’s stunt but he came to the meeting to resign in person.

Kaldur and Diana decides to issue a statement disowning their former members’ future actions.

The Young Justice team are chilling in the waiting area. Jaime and Bart are chatting – BFFs or dating? If they are dating, will the show ever make it official? Tim and Cassie are next to each other – they were thrown together in the season finale – so, still dating? Is it serious? Steph and Cissie are hanging out – a friendship that has strong possibilities. Unfortunately, the girls never had much interaction in the comics.

Batman strolls in and announces “It’s time.” Robin and Arrowette leave with their mentors. Tim doesn’t surprise me. I’ve always felt Tim was the most loyal to Bruce out of all his Robins. Dick, Jason, and have always banged heads with Bruce. Damian, if forced to choose, would side with Dick over Bruce. Tim is Bruce’s “ride or die” Robin.

I’m surprised over Stephanie and Cissie. As I said earlier, Steph routinely goes against Bruce’s wishes. Cissie has never had much – if any – interaction with Ollie in the comics.

Bruce asks Jeff to join his group – Jeff refuses as he doesn’t trust Batman and doesn’t want to be part of Batman Incorporated.

Jeff and Bruce have a different relationship as Jeff is very “Team Batman” in the comics.

Are we going to get Batman Incorporated? With a Knight & Squire appearance?

Jeff apologizes to Static: “I’m sorry, Virgil. Maybe you can find a new mentor. One who is less damaged.”

The duo doesn’t have any type of connection in the comics but it’s a natural relationship.

The rest of Young Justice – especially Cassie and Bart – are very confused as to what is going on.

Moscow, July 28: A disguised Dick Grayson, in communication with Oracle, rescue a few meta-human trafficking victims.

So how long will the writers wait until the identity of Oracle is revealed to the viewers? And will the Joker be responsible for Barbara’s paralysis?

Dick is tracking down Bedlam, who is responsible for the tar mutation goop.

Oracle has spent time around Bart as she refers to something as “crash”.

We switch to Markovia. King Viktor and Queen Illona DeLamb-Markov are holding a press conference. Princess Tara disappeared two years ago. Brion has recently returned from studying abroad.

The royal couple speaks out in support of Quarqi refugees – fleeing the recent invasion of a Queen Bee-led Biayla - and against metahuman trafficking.

Brion asks Dr. Jace about the results of his meta-gene testing. He tested positive. Brion wants his meta-gene activated.

Dr. Jace was a supporting cast member of the Outsiders in the comic books.

Dick is in Star City. Barbara informs Dick of Bruce and company’s mass resignation. Dick insists he “can’t worry about that now.”

Babs has determined the likely location of the meta-trafficking in Markovia but insists Dick will need backup.

Dick is way ahead of her.

We discover Artemis has moved to Star City and lives with Roy Harper and Lian.

Roy is going by “Will”.

Where’s Cheshire? Did she go back to the dark side?

Where’s young Roy? I don’t remember seeing him on the Watchtower.

July 29th” Future Halo is in the Markovian castle. She lets in others who quickly murder the King and Queen.

Queen Illona’s brother kills the intruder. I’m very suspicious of Queen Illona’s brother.

Dick approaches Happy Harbor.

Hey, there’s Wolfe! Enjoying a nice nap.

Conner is worried about Superman being off planet for so long. He feels a burden to step into Superman’s shoes.

Dick arrives to recruit Conner. Conner agrees. Dick reminds Conner that it’s a non-super suit mission. As in, you can’t wear the “S” shirt.

Dick leaves to find his next recruit.

It’s both interesting – an odd- that Dick didn’t ask Megan along. Her powers – telepathy, shape-changing, invisibility, phasing – are perfect for covert mission. Conner’s abilities and personality are the exact opposite of covert. The reason can’t be that he’s afraid of leaving Young Justice without a leader – Dick states it’s a one-day mission. So why not bring Megan? Has Dick discovered her mind-wiping spree? Or her assault on Conner’s mind? Has he lost trust in Megan? I am baffled as to why Dick wouldn’t recruit Megan unless its due to personal issues.

Megan falls back to her manipulative ways: “I don’t want to be that kind of girlfriend, but…I just lost a big chunk of my team to whatever Batman’s got going. I was sort of counting on you.”

Conner’s only going to be gone for 24 hours! Stop being so clingy, needy, and manipulative.

Conner hastens to assure Megan: “You can always count on me. I can prove it.”

Cue the vomit-inducing proposal scene.

Conner, you poor, poor fool. Megan’s playing you like a puppet and you don’t even realize it. I don’t buy Megan’s “surprised” act. Megan’s a very powerful telepath – even if she wasn’t purposely reading his mind, there is no way she didn’t catch hints of Conner buying a ring.

I’m very cynical about Megan. How can we be sure she hasn’t been pushing Conner to propose? Megan is prone to living/retreating in a fantasy life – and she’s been obsessed with and molded Conner from day one.

Sure, Megan’s rocking the White Martian appearance, indicating more acceptance of herself, but her human form is still very “Hello, Megan”.

G. Gordon Godfrey is back. He wants martial law. Queen Illona’s brother claims it was a Quarci metahuman refugee who assassinated his sister and brother in-law.

The Baron states that he will serve as regent as Gregor and Brion, the royal twins, are only 17 years old. If I was the twins, I would be very worried for my safety.

Brion contacts Dr. Jace – he wants his meta-gene activated post-haste.

Metropolis: Jefferson kisses his daughters goodnight. Hi, Anissa and Jennifer!

Jeff informs Lynn that he’s giving up the costumed life.

Lynn doesn’t believe him: “I’m the sister of a Green Lantern and the ex-wife of a Black Lightning. I know how this quitting the life thing goes.”

Lynn is the sister of John Stewart? That’s a new twist.

Jeff leaves the house and immediately tells Dick “No”.

Dick persists. Jeff insists he “can’t” – his powers aren’t working.

Dick informs Jeff that he “came for the man, not the powers”.

July 30, Midnight: Dick is at the meeting spot. Artemis zetas in. Conner arrives in the sphere-ship, Jeff shows up, and the group head to Markovia.

Cute ending scene – Artemis’s dog sleeps with a Wally plush.

I enjoyed the episode minus the Megan parts. It was pure set-up but I’m very intrigued by Bruce and Oliver’s upcoming shenanigans. And you can’t go wrong with the Dick-Conner-Artemis trio.

And we have two more episodes! Exciting!

Brie Larson!! I fell in love with her in The United States of Tara, then even more in Room, and Captain Marvel was just the icing on the cake.

This is tougher, because I tend to hyperfixate on actors and then get very done with them lol but currently it’s Hale Appleman, I loved him in both The Magicians and his tiny role in Private Romeo.

3.) A guilty pleasure actor or actress?

Probably Paul Bettany? Especially in A Knight’s Tale and Inkheart.

4.) Favorite on-screen outfit(s)?

This is so hard because I geek out over costumes/outfits so much, but the first one that came to mind was the overralls from Mamma Mia. They’re everything a good outfit should be, iconic and also suits the character so well. I feel like there’s probably a much better answer to this, but I’m tired so it’s what I’m going with lol. I might come back and talk about another one later.

Natasha Lyonne!! Her curls are everything I hope mine would be.
