La Sorbonne was named for its founder, Robert de Sorbon, chaplain and confessor of Louis IX. The history of the institution has always been closely linked with that of the University of Paris, one of the most important medieval universities of the French capital. Throughout the centuries, la Sorbonne became and remained a prestigious symbol of the university, training and teaching many of the great philosophers and masters of theology and history.

The University of Paris opened its doors in the 13th century. It was formed from a conglomeration of all of the colleges of the city's left bank. It was here that training occurred for all of Paris' clergy, administrators of royal institutions (courts of audit, courts, parliament, the council of state), as well as agents of ecclesiastical institutions ((bishops, abbots, education and hospital agents). Young students of the Four Nations at the time (French, Normandy, Picardy and English) came there to study law, medicine, theology and the arts. Thus, the University enjoyed unmatched prestige and international renown. In 1253, Robert de Sorbon opened his school on the Parisian Mountain, Sainte-Geneviève. The institution was primarily meant to train the poorest students (like many other colleges on the hill), but soon the Collège de Sorbon acquired a reputation, gradually becoming the famous theological faculty La Sorbonne .

The 17th century brought change. In an effort to bring new life to the old buildings, Cardinal Duc de Richelieu appointed architect Jacques Lemercier to undertake updates to the Sorbonne's structures. Cardinal Richelieu was very involved in the life of the Sorbonne and would go on to become headmaster in 1622.

The turmoil of the French Revolution would force the doors of the Sorbonne to close for a time. Starting in 1801 the Sorbonne housed simple artist workshops. During the Restoration, Louis XVIII decided to restore the buildings of the Sorbonne to their original purpose: education. In 1821, the Paris Academy and the École des Chartes (which trained students in archival conservation and preserving written heritage) took possession of the Sorbonne.

Montreal's Universities McGill, Concordia, UQaM, UdeM, and the college Dawson are organizing another joint protest on Wednesday October 25th 2023 at 1:30PM on all their campuses, in response to pushback from administration.

Their demands, from both Canadian government and their Universities.

1) To disinvest from weapons manufacturers that support the Israeli genocide on Ghazzah. (Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics and Northrop Grumman, and others.)

2) To stand for the immediate end to the siege on Ghazzah and the American and Canadian financing of Israel.

3) To cease the exchange programs of Israeli Universities and to cut all ties with zionist donators.

Un étudiant de l'American Columbia University s'est endormi pendant un cours de mathématiques, puis s'est réveillé au son de la voix des étudiants à la fin du cours, et il a découvert que le docteur avait écrit deux problèmes au tableau. Il s'est dit : "c'est un devoir" et les a recopié dans son livre pour les résoudre à la maison. Quand il a essayé, il a trouvé qu'ils étaient très difficiles… Mais il a continué à essayer et à essayer et à aller à la bibliothèque, apportant des références et cherchant jusqu'à ce qu'il ne puisse à peine résoudre qu'un seul problème. Et dans la conférence qui a suivi, il a remarqué que le docteur n'avait pas posé de questions sur le devoir ! Alors l'étudiant s'est levé et lui a demandé : « Docteur, pourquoi n'avez-vous pas posé de questions sur le devoir de la conférence précédente ? Le docteur a dit : « Le devoir ?… Ce n'était pas un devoir. Au contraire, je vous donnais des exemples de problèmes mathématiques que la science et les scientifiques n'ont pas pu résoudre ! L'étudiant a été étonné et a dit, "Mais j'ai résolu l'un d'eux en quatre papiers!" La solution au problème a été enregistrée à l'Université de Columbia et était connue sous son nom. Ce numéro avec ses quatre papiers est toujours présenté à l'université à ce jour. Cet étudiant a résolu le problème pour une raison… parce qu'il n'a pas entendu le professeur dire : « Personne n'a pu trouver sa solution. Il s'est convaincu qu'il fallait le résoudre… Lorsqu'il a essayé de s'éloigner des effets de la frustration, il l'a résolu. N'écoute pas les gens qui te disent que tu ne peux pas 👌 à toi la réussite 💪
