I put out a new chill, dreamy instrumental, inspired by ancient mythology, Sappho of Lesbos, and the swirling emotions of limerance and fear when new love calls.
This is from a play called Nuit for which I am composing a soundtrack, a really cool combon of hilarious skits and breathtaking dance choreo. This is written for a dance between two Lesbian characters, a pivotal and tender moment where they realize their unspoken longing. Hope some of you can see it in Montreal this summer, seeing it with my partial soundtrack in the fall was one of my proudest musical moments 🎵🎶🎶
I know this isn't really a single, but I was excited to share and maybe it can be the soundtrack to your little moments. For fans of Air, Daft Punk, Wendy Carlos, Bowie, UNKLE, Foxes in Fiction, Brian Eno, Kate Bush, Locate S1, and more 💖💖💖
Before going on to direct Zone of Interest and winning an Oscar for Best International Feature, Jonathan Glazer got his start in commercials and music videos. Music videos used to be a common stepping stone to feature films, but with the demise of MTV, that's not the case anymore.
So, I thought it would be interesting to go through all twelve of his music videos, some of which I've seen before. ("Virtual Insanity" has to be his most famous, and if there's a music video canon, then it's on it). I've included one shot from each video.
Going through this work, it's interesting to see his use of light, especially blinding white light. He also plays around a lot with diagetic sound, letting it mix in with the music of even cut it off completely. It really makes me wish filmmakers had more testing grounds where they could build their craft these days.
Record: Saturnalia (Sub Pop Records, 2008)
In a more visionary world than we will ever experience, Mark Lanegan’s I Am the Wolf: Lyrics & Writings (Da Capo Press, 2017), with its insider notes from the magic mountain where some of his songs came from, would have by now been greatly expanded to incorporate a more complete record of this colossus recording artist’s output as writer, songwriter,…
Gliel'andava a chiedere sempre in pausa pranzo, "studia mio caro, studia e poi ne parliamo eh?!"
