Rewind the Tape — IWTV S1E04 Rewatch
Finally, I'm back with my rewatch for @iwtvfanevents after having to microdosing Ep 4 because of limited time, mood, and I just fell unconscious once I hit my bed. Again, FYI from before: this is my first time rewatching the show (excluding indirect watch through YouTube reactions), and its purpose for me to refresh my mind and noticing things. So, I won't dwell on certain ongoing or past theories, but I'll take notes about the possibilities I notice as the rewatch goes for myself. Also, disclaimer, because I've had people put words into my mouth before: When I'm assuming the reason a certain character does what they do, it's not to give them an excuse. It's my way of trying to understand what the writers have in their minds. For me, if the action of a character doesn't make sense in that character's eyes, based on their personality, then it's bad writing.
Okay, that's long enough. Be careful with the S2 spoiler alerts. Time to meet ✨ Claudia✨
Tumblr media
• It's been 10 years since Daniel published a book and his publisher seems questioning his ability to write a book.
• Armand barely gets any sunlight here.
• *Googling* Levodopa is used to reduce Parkinson's symptoms, like tremors, stiffness, and slowness, which are caused by lack of dopamine. It works by being converted to dopamine in brain.
• "Electronic mailbox" Armand, you're so funny.
• Resting? Wait, have they ever did an interview during mornings before? Ep 1, it's night. Ep 2, during dinner time to late at night. Okay, it seems Ep 3 starts in the day to night. Gonna pay attention to this more.
• The interior designer is a woman. "Louis is missing the 'natural' world" What tree is that again? I'm bad with plants.
• Claudia wrote her name and the year on her first diary. Cute. (But ofc she probably stopped doing that after Loustat read her diaries)
• They arrived in Paris November 14, 1945. A week after Lestat's birthday, fyi. There's a headcanon Armand's (it seems people got it from a wikia, which was taken from an official calendar, but no one has checked that calendar) is November 11.
• They're in Ploiesti in 1941, eating POWs.
• My caption doesn't write it, but Lestat says, "Impossible. Elle est trop jeune." (She's too young) Oh, Louis 😔
• "I just need her not to die". And Lestat probably recalled Louis crying on their bed over not able to have a child, and there they went to doom themselves and Claudia. Anything (because unlike Louis, he knows all the consequences) to keep Louis happy AND stay with him.
• The contrast between Louis' and Claudia's transformation. Lestat doesn't let her to drink much, just enough to turn her. There's no gentleness or anything when Lestat holds her. In fact, the camera stays on his rough hold, highlighting the ugliness of it. Isn't in the books being turned without consent seen akin to rape?
• "Hell demons" lol. I wonder when she got his first diary and when she arrived at that conclusion.
• "It's my new house?" "It is if you want it to be" as if she has another option. Louis, you're so funny.
• Delaying to tell Claudia that she needs to feed on humans. Telling her there's another "choice" than eating humans. Expecting Claudia to feel regret the next day after killing a human. Louis, stop putting your own feelings in her.
• "He has to relay on my words to understand me. Just like humans." "We are a family?" Monsters who have to keep a bit of humanity to get along, who are also playing house like humans.
• You could tell Lestat is already sensitive about being left out in the telepathic conversation since the beginning.
• Claudia witnessing queer relationship for the first time is so amusing lol
• Claudia says ACAB 😌
• This scene doesn't feel "smooth" to me. I don't know if it's the editing or the writing. First, that last line by the cop is too long for such a short action. Second, i think they could pick a better intonation for "not a cop" there. Plus, the placement makes it feel like they almost forgot to put it.
• Claudia needs twice amount of blood than Loustat. She's still energetic when the sleep time comes. Noted.
• "Kill juice" Lestat and Claudia are bonding over vampirism.
• "Have you seen my slippers?" "Under the chair by the window" The domesticity uwu.
• The lines about Lestat talking about Claudia's writing habit are so witty when you remember he canonly writes the Vampire Chronicles books. A platonic kiss for IWTV writers again.
• Claudia's new coffin is called The Feathered Nest. A call back to Louis saying him in Lestat's nest in Ep 2.
• Since the beginning, Claudia likes to ask and figure out things that she doesn't know, while Louis won't say anything to not rock the boat.
• "We try to accustom her to the thought of coming home to God" Oh gosh, Louis is so bad at lying 😭
• Okay, seriously. We know in Ep 2, after Louis is just turned that /at least/ his sight and hearing becomes more sensitive. And in this episode, Claudia can smell the cop's blood from afar. But this lore doesn't consistent with the stinky bodies at their home in Ep 5 and the fact Claudia can stalk Lestat many times (and ofc Claudia and Louis at Antoinette's place in Ep 6 as well). This uncontinuity gives me a headache. OR after they manage to control their senses (Lestat's saying "focus on my voice, a single strain"), their senses basically become normal and only can do more when they willing it? I'm trying to make sense of it here.
• "I miss sleeping with you." So, in good days, they sleep together in Louis' coffin. They /probably/ haven't been doing it since Antoinette thing started (I mean, I wouldn't). That's 8 months. (The sanctioned infidelity narration is on Feb 1917, Claudia started to write her diary in late Sept 1917 and she still sleeps with Louis by that time. Based on this timeline)
• "Sometimes, you gotta be careful where you dig, you understand?" Not to fast forward to S2, but this sounds so ominous.
• Louis in the night with this pink striped shirt 🥰
• "Is that what he's up to when he goes out alone?" No wonder stalking Lestat is the first thing she does after Charlie.
• Do I believe Louis' answer is true? I do, because writing-wise, I don't see there's any reason for Lestat to cheat (as in having a relationship with someone else, because I could see him still making out with humans before eating them) when they keep spending their time together except when Lestat is hunting and Louis and Claudia go out together like in this scene. Plus, unlike in Ep 6, during this era Claudia still follows the no telepathic talking rule. (See: Claudia's "I'll tell Uncle Les you talk to me this way" later) Something, I assume, makes Lestat feel alienated from the two and goes to cheat to find a connection with another on his own. But I digress.
• "Used to caught up in human affairs. Then you."
• Okay, at least Daniel waits Armand to finish his sunnah prayer before interrupting him, though Armand should continue doing his Ashr prayer soon. Anyway, i wish they used adhan that's clearer. I mean, I could only listen the beginning of each phrase, not the end.
• Claudia throwing a thing at Lestat and he barely reacted and proceed to pick it off the floor right away. For a period of time, Claudia is indeed the queen in that house. "This was given to me by a marquis..." If that's from Lestat's father, which makes that a family heirloom, and he gave that to Claudia. That means big for a Provider man like Lestat. (hashtag me and Lestat loved Claudia once propaganda) They are supposed to have 6 years of "good time".
• "When they can't (figuring out their problems), I can always get between them and make it right." Claudia is literally a band-aid. I suppose she helps them communicating because as I said in previous episodes, Loustat tend to not address the real problem, just shift to something that will make them feel better and forget it until it comes up again.
• *S2 spoiler alert* No, never think about how Claudia's interest in acting probably grew from the times Loustat bringing her to watch picture shows and Lestat acting them out in front of them. And in the end, it's what makes her fall into the trap of the troupe easier in S2. No, we're fine.
• "Know what her last words are?" I love her psychopath side, obsessing over last words after being called a devil in one.
• Oh, Grace's inflection when saying "uncle". They have heard a lot of homophobic jabber and satanic accusations from Florence over the years, no doubt.
• This is from Claudia's POV, so it's interesting how she's paying attention and remembers to write it down.
• Louis really has put down his dutiful son and brother "hat" after having a family himself.
• I think this is probably the last time Claudia admits she has a lot in common with Lestat *insert xie lian's idk whether i have to cry or laugh here*
• That scene of Claudia eating the guy is so classic horror, complete with the blood splatter on glass. Love.
• Lestat really brings her to Lovers' Lane without thinking about the effects. He probably thinks because her appetite stays big like a kid, her mind will stay like that forever.
• "I don't remember buying that outfit" Lestat bought all Claudia's outfits ofc. (I don't regard interviews as part of canon, but Sam did say that Louis chose Claudia's outfits)
• My theory: Lestat could notice when Claudia and Louis telepathically speaking if he pays attention to their expressions. I mean, he clearly has a thing for being alienated by telepathic connection (for a good reason, if they adapt that part of the book, cmiiw), so it makes sense if he just can tell.
• THE HORSE IS CALLED BELLA LOL
• She really has a crush on the first good man she meets. So adorable, if not for her monologue
• She knocks the railing every time she walks towards Loustat's room? Oh I would like to know the backstory that causes this rule/habit 👀. But if it's a rule, it's an interesting when you recall Lestat's "Child. Intervening the romance of the parents" or something like that in Ep 6.
• Waiting on balcony just like her father in Ep 1. The writers are strong with their "Evil of my evil" propaganda.
• Claudia figures out how to block people's thoughts since teenager. Louis has never had a reason to do it
• Again, Claudia is such a curious girl. She dives right in with Charlie
• Sorry, but the editing in this episode is kinda sloppy. I keep noticing things 😭
• This connection Claudia has with last words. It's been awhile but I wonder if we'll get to see it again. *S2 spoiler alert* Perhaps Madeleine says something to her before you-know-what. Or Claudia says something to Louis instead. I just love patterns yknow.
• Daniel Hart is just slaying in the background with his music.
• Vampires feel "loose" when they're aroused, which leads to become very bitey.
• That's why she goes to find out how vampirism works right away. Suddenly Lestat can't do what he did to her. She realizes she knows nothing about her current life
• That scene of Lestat and Claudia at the incinerator... Past Louis doesn't know they're burning Charlie and what exactly what Lestat says there. Imagine reading the latter in her diary.
• The transition from Lestat's whole speech about not being close to a mortal to Daniel 🤌🤌🤌
• If Daniel is true that Louis has had all of the diaries in '70s, so my guess Louis doesn't look fine at all in the flashback is right. He's "wearing hats" again.
• I wonder what Louis wanted to say. But knowing him and judging from his reaction to Daniel's brashness, it's something that sugarcoats  Claudia's position in their "family"
• The way Claudia knocks the railing but then it goes weaker, she doesn't really care about the houserules or childish habits anymore
• The last scene is a nice hint/nod to you-know-what, but also I once read someone saying that what she does is the equivalent of a teenager doing self-harming when they're depressed, and I can't unsee that anymore. I think that's a spot-on.
• This is the last episode we hear "In Throes in Increasing Wonder" as a closing music btw. You know, the music that represent Loustat's love. They really say we're going downhill
Summary:
For the previous episodes, I always finished my rewatch and tried to figure out what theme of that episode. Of course it's always about Louis because this is Louis' season first and foremost. But for the theme of this episode, I think it's: Louis' first meeting with Claudia and the first time he has failed her. The first part is obvious, the second part, like I said above, Louis only finds how far Lestat's action is to Claudia after he reads her diaries later. I think, he sees that as his first failure to her; unable to stop Lestat making it worse for her.  And we will see Claudia criticize this more in Ep 6.
This episodes also shows Louis' misconception about Claudia. He expects Claudia to react the same way to vampirism as he is. And we will see more of this in the later episodes (but of course the most obvious one is in Ep 7)
This episode is in Claudia's POV, but I like to call it "the closest thing to ideal life Louis has ever gotten", at least until Charlie happens. Like Lestat says in the church scene, Louis wears a lot of "hats": being the good son and good executive in charge of their fortune for his family, being the good straight man, being the good savvy businessman for his family and his own people, and later being a good vampire for Lestat. This time, he gets to take most of them, if not all, off and focus himself wholly on Claudia and Lestat, his family. He says himself, Claudia's existense silences all the noise, chaos, the crisis of his former existence. He has a daughter who has literal telepathic connection to him, someone who can know what he feels without saying anything. Someone by whom he doesn't feel being judged because he can know what she thinks. He has a husband who spends most of his time with them as a family. Who takes their daughter together to shop, Louis choosing the stuffs, Lestat paying for it. Who protects their family when they need to fulfill their daughter's needs (see: the buying coffin scene). Who also has a quality time with their daughter, even though it's mostly about killing humans. Unfortunately, it's rigged to burn, because Claudia won't be a child forever despite her body, outgrowning the very particular role Loustat need from her to maintain their play house.
Oh, I almost forgot, I wonder what the arrangement is with Louis' diet during this happy period. He doesn't do as much action as he did in previous episodes and we do see him eating animals still, but it looks like his sex life is thriving. He has control over his emotions pretty well. So, I assume he doesn't starve himself completely. At least, not as bad as he did before. Perhaps, this is one of the problems Claudia says she has "to smooth out". Though we know later she has never said directly to Louis how she actually doesn't completely agree with his diet choice from Episode 7. *S2 spoiler alert* And we know he later decides to eat human every other day to survive their European trip. My long time theory is Lestat manipulates him into drinking from him at least once a week as a solution. (and that's why he's more powerful than his book counterpart when he's not completely starving himself) 🤔
By the way, since this is the middle of the season, I'd like to say I think this is overall my least favorite episode so far. Mostly from the technical side, but I still love how they sprinkle hints of Claudia's own personality. I think my most favorite episode overall is Ep 1. I just love how their built Louis' personality in it. The performance is crazy, and the directing set the tone of the rest of the season. The directing in Ep 3 is top notch as well, especially towards the end. You really could feel the growing tension. The writing weaving all this history and race problem into Louis' personal life is genius as well.

The landbitch
One night, Charlie got called by the landlady when she dropped the new she was raising the rent again. No, she can't do that! Where's that solidarity between people of the same species? They're both vampire after all.
Charlie: Margrit, please... Margrit: We are not on a first name basis, you will call me Misses Fairchild and nothing else. Charlie: I can't really call you misses considering you're divorced.
Well, Charlie did not help her case at all with that comeback. Great, now she gotta announce that to the other roommates.
To think she used to have pity of that woman. Her story on how she became a vampire is a bit tragic. She was born in what is now modern day Austria in 1884, exactly a century before Charlie, and moved to the States at only 20 to marry a man twice her age. To be fair, it was mostly in a gold digging move. The 1930s rolled around, and she caught him cheating on him with a woman who was born the year they got married. She threatened a divorce, and as revenge he tried killing her by hiring a vampire hitman. The hitman failed to fully suck her blood out and instead turned her into a vampire. Still alive, she got to divorce, but now the Fairchild no longer wanted anything to do with her, and her family back in Austria rejected her for being a vampire. She still had enough divorce money to buy an apartment building in the art district though, and she's been the landlady of the place ever since...Oh and all of that was for nothing, cause the old husband croaked less than a year later.
However, Margrit has long since reached a point where Charlie could no longer feel bad for her.
Charlie: Bad new folks, the rent increased again. Dawud: Are you kidding me? Rudi: Ah for fuck sake, I just got a raise at work! Dawud: Well, personally, and I'm just saying, but I am the only one here with like, a full time job that pays more than 15$ an hour. Like, I know these are though time, but you guys need to step up. Akva: Easy for you to say, you were pretty much given your job when you moved here and got trained for free. My pay is shit but I can't find anything else, and flight school is freaking expensive. Kino: You could ask your new girlfriend to move here. Akva: I don't think she would wanna do that, she has a nice apartment all to herself, unlike us who barely have enough and just forgotten what having a bit privacy is like. I mean, she's a video editor, do we even have space for her desk here? Why don't your girlfriend move here uh? Kino: I broke up with Lilah yesterday. Through text. Charlie: Kino, you can't keep breaking up with people through text! Kino: Why not? And also, we would have more place to sleep if you agreed to share your room too while all five of us plus my baby are cramped in one bedroom. Charlie: Well speaking of baby, you barely take care of him, I'm his main caregiver. Which great, not only are you not arsed to be a parent, but it's an extra financial strain on the household.
Having run out of argument, Kino simply made a random move that was similar to the C part of the YMCA dance. It seemed out of nowhere, but it was because it is the equivalent on Sixam of giving the middle finger.
Rudi: Talking a lot of shit anyway for someone who doesn't have a job. Kino: Well yes, but I'm paid by the government agent who sent me here like...an amount of money I will not disclose. Rudi: Say it! Daniele: STOP FIGHTING PLEASE I DON'T LIKE IT! Akva: Dan, shut up, you literally don't have a job and you were raised rich... Daniele: I do have one, I'm a tailor at my aunt's fashion workshop, but I don't work that often and she doesn't pay me cause we're family. Dawud: That's kind of a dick move on her part actually...Wait when we think about it, your family has well enough money that you don't need to live here, what are you even doing in this apartment? Yes, you were kicked out by your parents, but you also lived with your aunt your entire teenage years. Daniele: My family is rich but I don't have much money to my name and I wanted to leave as soon as I turn 18 but currently I'm wondering if I should not just go back... Charlie: Nobody is gonna move out of this place, we can't afford to lose anyone. If anything, we need a new member! Rudi: We clearly don't have place though, and will the landbitch even let us? Akva: Legally, every household is allowed to have a maximum of eight people, and as long as that maximum hasn't been reached, you cannot deny someone to move under a roof. However, as soon as there's eight people, you cannot accept anyone else, which is why anyone who can get pregnant needs to go on birth control if there's eight people in a household. Also, it's not because you have to allow maximum eight people that every house or apartment is made to accomodate that eight people. Dawud: ...That's messed up what the hell... Kino: Yeah, I don't wanna go on birth control against my will! Charlie: What, so you can get pregnant with another baby you won't take care of? Rudi: The idea of having an extra roommates wouldn't be so bad if you didn't had a fucking private bedroom while the rest of us plus the baby were all sharing the same room!
The roommates kept on arguing, which almost escalated into insults. "Thankfully", their next door neighbor knocked and told them to shut the fuck up, it's almost 11 pm. How was little Joseph even sleeping through that? Silly them, they shouldn't be mad at each other, clearly they should be pissed at Miss Fairchild for putting the rent so hard they need to be seven roommates to make it, and that's not even including basic stuff like food etc...But well, if getting a seven roommates is what it would take, like, they have someone of each species except a fairy so it would be the perfect opportunity to get a fairy under this roof.
And now, for totally unrelated reason, Audrey eating a burger.

Some das Haus Anubis Headcanons ( some also may fit for Het Huis Anubis)
Kaya does not wash his clothes. In Season 1 when Kaya was about to visit his father his shirt was pink because Victor washed it, then in Season 2 when Rosie used tar instead of laundry detergent. Kaya looks like this:
Tumblr media
But the rest all look normal. So maybe a he doesn't know how or his father just pays more for it. He does seem like he is a bit more spoiled and not very self sufficent so yeah.
When playing Monopoly Magnus insists on being bank. That's because when Felix and him were playing one time in Season 1 he basically had the cardboard on his lap and it fits for his character
Tumblr media
Mara's parents aren't her biological parents but neither she or her parents know it. This is because Mara is supposed to be the last on the bloodline of Amneris. But what about her parents then? Radus tells her in the end of Season 2 that her family did flee from egypt and I think she was just a baby back then. Or more so a newborn for my hc. I still have to think of a reason for why but some people were after the chosen and killed every new born baby. ( Yeah it's pretty extreme. Maybe some of you can think of a reason why, the Curse of Anchesamon doesn't exist in DHA). During this massacre her parents fleed but but they got the wrong baby. " Mara." ( Mara's biological parents were therefor murdered)
Magnus got sent away from home because he started acting out after his father went to prison. It does make sense after a trauma incident to happen for a young child to act out. Magnus mother met a new man shortly after his father went to prison and I do think that he tried to break them up. And did some other stuff aswell. Eventually his mother had enough of his behaviour and sent him away.
Mara is good in sport and she knows alot about it but she's not that much into it. She enjoys some sports. She uses it as a way to bond with her father who she enjoys doing it with the most. This is particular because in Season 1 when Mara is sad about Kaya yet again and complains to Luzy. She says: " But when we are together he's totally different. Then it's just about his sport again." She sounds kinda annoyed at the second sentence. Also Mara never really seemed to be very interested in sport in Season 1 until she found out it was a way to get Kaya.
Magnus and Felix have been in the House Anubis the longest. I'm sure they know eachother for long time now. Felix does know Magnus and is able to deal with him and can tolerate him back in Season 1 until to a breaking point. But he is able to just forget about it in Season 2. So I think they are really close like brothers.
Kaya is a year or two older than everyone else and he had to repeat a school year. This is because Kaya is knowingly not doing well in school. And because Benny did steal Kaya's girlfriend some time ago. This must have happened before the year and a half relationship with Delia. ( Unless he cheated or they were on/off) If he was the same age like everyone else. He would have been 13 when that happened. And it seems a bit young to me. Also compared to the others he looks older because he is bigger.
This picture:
Tumblr media
was taken after or during Victors Birthday Party:
Tumblr media
Mara and Magnus wanted or at least they tried to keep their relationship a secret or private at first. ( they made it secretive but at the same time so obvious it was confusing) I think they didn't want any gossip that Mara dated Magnus after she went out with Kaya " the most popular guy in school." And these girl fans Kaya has undeservingly were like: " Are you crazy?" They also seem to be caught of guard after Radus asks them if Mara is his new girlfriend after they stand before him like this:
Tumblr media
and then this:
Tumblr media
I don't know i just like them being more private of their relationship unlike Nina and Daniel who seem to have their problems and everything else all open to their Club Friends.
Nina likes to draw and is very good at it. This is because her actress likes to do art. And there is not much about Nina and it fits her. I also saw some drawings in her locker.
Tumblr media
Magnus went through an emo phase wearing just black. It's basically because his character. Jeroen still seems to be kind of in it lol.
Mara and Magnus sometimes sneak out to sleep in one bed together. This is because they did this in season 2 and because Magnus mentions when Mara is captured and he talks to hef picture that soon she will experience Felix snoring again. That could mean that sometimes she goes over his place aswell. And that was after the whole Raven thing and Mara couldn't sleep well so she went to him or he to her.
Mara and Delia have talked after Season 2 and Mara has apologized to Delia again because she kinda got between Kaya when they were dating. Delia did forgive her immediately because she was over Kaya some time ago. I think after Mara thought Delia had something with Magnus she understood what it must have felt like for Delia when she did all these things just for Kaya. The two can now just laugh about it that they were so obssessed with him. Season 3 Delia and Mara would never break their backs for Kaya!
Tumblr media
Magnus saw one of his great grandparents fall on the floor and then die. That's why when someone drops on the floor he first thinks they are death. This was back in Season 1 when Delia fainted because she was starving. Magnus was like: " Is she still alive?" And then when Trabas collapsed and he thinks he killed him. And when Mara tricks him by fake fainting and Magnus asks Ms. Engel if she's dead.
Mara and Magnus haven't told anyone where they were in Season 3 when they were held hostage by that tattoo artist. They thought that are allowed to have their secrets too.
In S2 E22. Mara and Magnus go for a walk at the woods in the morning before school. At the same episode Nina and Daniel were looking for a wise old grey haired man. I hc that Nina and Daniel saw them shortly but didn't thought much of it.
Tumblr media
Nina and Daniel were mentioned in the first School News Paper. The article of who is dating who. They were the main headline from the article as: " Prom King and Prom Queen found love."
Nina and Daniel were voted cutest couple in school by the students one time. In the show people gush alot about their relationship so it makes sense.
The Chosen One had to hold up the grail out of love. The whole thing is about bringing two lovers back together.
Daniel learned how to speak Latein from his uncle Per.
After the school news paper Luzy now wants to become a journalist.
Mara is very talented and quick in learning new languages she's also very interested in it. Both her parents are from Oman were they speak Arabic. She learned how to speak german when she was 11. She is also good in French and Italian.
Magnus mother is from Romania. Therfor he speaks romanian aswell. This is because the actor who plays him is Romanian descent. That's also why he is so good in french. I googled that the language is very similar to it.
Luzy and Max are not going to last. I just don't see it. Luzy seems to be more in love with the romantic gestures he does than with Max. Also they way they got together it wasn't I fell in love with you because I got to know you. It was more like: I fell in love with you because I was desperate for love and you gave me this. They also don't really match. They were so weird in Season 3 and Max is slowly becoming Kaya 2.0. And no one wants a Kaya 2.0 especially Luzy.
Tumblr media
A small part of Luzy wanted Mara to go out with Kaya so she sees for herself what kind of guy he is and her obsession would end. Why would she constantly tell her to forget about that guy and seeing how miserable he makes her but still tell her she should try it with him. And her reaction in Season 2 when Mara reveals that Kaya has not replied to her once. She doesn't even sound surprised. More so: Yeah I haven't expected anything different.
Nobody believes it but Felix is a very good baker. He loves to to decorate pastries. A few years ago his dream was to open up his own cake and pastry shop.
Nancy Ninja is Delias favourite heroine because she is a fashionista just like her but at the same time a total badass.
Kaya's mother is from German. He grew up living with her in Germany. His father is from Turkey. Growing up he rarely seen his father until he was 11 years old when his father moved closer to them.
*might add more later :) but i just wanted to post these by far.

Idea For Improving Life Is Strange 2 - Working On Making Karen Reynolds Less Unsympathetic
(And Tying Some Plot Threads Together As A Bonus)
Second part of this post: https://wyvernseeker.tumblr.com/post/693362528004308992/idea-for-improving-life-is-strange-2-working-on
In my previous post, I talked about an idea of how Karen Reynolds, mother of the protagonist brothers of Life Is Strange 2 could've come across more sympathetic as the story intended to make her by changing her reason for ditching her sons from what boiled down to "I wanted to not be a housewife and live unburdened". Which, by abandoning her husband and children and not even remaining in contact with them since giving birth to Daniel 9 years prior, makes her as unsympathetic as any deadbeat dad. Instead, I put forth the idea that she fell into the clutches of Reverend Mother Lisbeth Fischer and gradually wore and tore her ties with her family, only realizing years later with the ugliness of preventable child death from sickness she's witnessed within the cult how she misses her family. Unfortunately, reconciliation can't quite happen. Fortunately, there is someone, or rather some people willing to help Karen get back on her feet.
Enter Emily Eriksen and her husband, Charles. Understanding her plight and seeing her remorse for her actions, the two set money aside for Karen so as to help her survive. In addition, a traveling writer by the name of Brody gives her further, if limited assistance (though not quite learning the last name of her family). After some time, around the time Daniel is 8, things are looking up for Karen. Planning on trying to reconnect with her husband and kids and gradually on the way to getting her parents to consider forgiving her for how she was in the past, what can go wrong? Well....
Whilst in the area trying to get more followers, Lisbeth by chance sees Karen. And unfortunately just because she's been out of sight doesn't mean she's been out of mind for Lisbeth, and like any demented cult leader, Lisbeth DOESN'T like those abandon the faith. Attempting to charm Karen into returning fails, due to her knowing better and seeing the Reverend Mother as the deranged person she is, and this infuriates Lisbeth. However, this gives her the idea of making Karen suffer for this perceived betrayl. Unfortunately, a proxy is needed, and not a willing one.
Shortly before Christmas, Emily is apparently killed by a driver whilst going out to buy Christmas presents, leading to Charles falling victim to grief. However, unlike how before there seemed to be no suspects, this time there is one: Karen Reynolds. This further sends Charles into despair over the idea the woman Emily trusted killed her and stole from her. To say nothing of Stephen and Claire Reynolds, who are broken over the idea of their daughter turning murderer, breaking what little trust they have for her and disowning her once more. As for Karen, she is now forced on the run from the law, the evidence pointing to her. Evidence fabricated by Lisbeth.
Having spied on Karen during her interactions with Emily, the Reverend Mother would in turn spy on Emily, deciding she would be the proxy as to which Karen would be punished through. Observing her routine, she would then find out about Emily going to pick up presents on that fateful day and then decides to strike. With God as her witness, Lisbeth punches Emily's ticket and makes it seem as if she and Karen were having a falling out over monetary support. Brody would suspect Karen is being framed, but sadly has little evidence to try and defend her. Thus, he searches for Karen and evidence to clear her name, whilst also looking for a good story or two. Especially if it involves the cult she was once part of.
So, how was that? I tried to make it that Karen looks more sympathetic as well as tie the threads of Lisbeth's cult, the death of Emily Eriksen and a little bit of the nomadic Brody into the mix. Again, I apologize if I left several notable holes in my idea or if I somehow plagiarized off someone, as that was not my intention.

Adrienne Shelly and Martin Donovan in Trust (Hal Hartley, 1990)
Cast: Adrienne Shelly, Martin Donovan, Rebecca Nelson, John MacKay, Edie Falco, Karen Sillas, Matt Malloy, Suzanne Costollos, Jeff Howard, Tom Thon. Screeplay: Hal Hartley. Cinematography: Michael Spiller. Production design: Daniel Ouellette. Film editing: Nick Gomez. Music: The Great Outdoors, Philip Reed.
Hal Hartley's second feature begins like his first, with a teenage girl played by Adrienne Shelly having a fight with her father and storming out. But unlike The Unbelievable Truth (1989), this time the girl is pregnant and, the moment she leaves, the father drops dead. As Tolstoy informed us, each unhappy family is different from the others. And as if to prove that point, on the other side of town a thirtyish man (Martin Donovan) is fighting with his father (John MacKay), but this time the father doesn't drop dead, he makes his son go clean the bathroom. Again. (It's the most spotless bathroom I've ever seen.) And the son, whose name is Matthew Slaughter, doesn't storm out then, instead he goes to work, fights with his boss, and quits his job. Eventually, the girl, whose name is Maria Coughlin, and the man have to meet and have to work out the problematic attraction that develops between them. If that reminds you of The Unbelievable Truth, in which a teenage girl and an older man fall in love, I should add that Matthew Slaughter, like Joshua Hutton in the earlier film, has a shadowed past: He hasn't been to prison like Joshua but we learn that he has a record and spent time in reform school. He's also so volatile that he carries around with him a hand grenade. (We might call it a Chekhov's grenade.) The similarities between Hartley's first two films extend to the deadpan performances and eccentric twists on conventional situations, which troubled some critics: Roger Ebert, for example, referred to the "soap opera idiom" of the story and "the arbitrary nature of his plots," but couldn't quite see where Hartley was going with the film. I wasn't sure where Hartley was going either, but I was happy to accompany him on the trip. In the second film he seemed to have learned more about making a movie: The performances are more consistently good, the pacing is more steady, and his unique voice and vision more securely articulated.

Does CBD Help Discomfort Relief?
Kyle Wright was made use of to living in discomfort. The 31-year-old that lives in New York City consistently felt the effects of decades-old injuries from playing sports as well as bartending, and contended with the back as well as shoulder pains triggered by light scoliosis.
Then, at a street fair in Denver, where he utilized to live, a person provided him an example of CBD lotion, an item stated to include cannabidiol, one of the lots of chemicals found in the marijuana plant. (While medical and leisure cannabis have CBD, the component itself doesn't deliver the "high" that's attributed to a different chemical, THC.) Wright gave it a shot. "I was actually amazed at exactly how effective the lotion was," states Wright, that now runs a partnership mentoring organization with his partner. "About 15 mins later on, it seemed like the tension had actually evaporated with my skin."
Wright quickly started getting CBD cream and also utilizing it on his wrists, shoulders, back and also neck-- all locations that craved focus after long days tied to the computer. He remains to make use of a salve or cream regarding two times a week and also almost never ever makes use of Advil or advil, his former default remedies. "My joints really felt looser, my muscles felt relaxed and the discomfort is dramatically minimized," Wright says.
CBD Backlinks
Wright is much from the just one applauding the power of CBD to treat pain and other disorders in what's advertised as a non-addictive, side effect-free and also non-psychoactive method. The Brightfield Team, a marijuana marketing research firm, also predicts the industry will certainly get to $22 billion by 2022, thanks to people like Danielle Jenkins, a 29-year-old that operates in not-for-profit management in Telluride, Colorado, who claims a topical CBD product was "the only point" that aided particular leg muscular tissues in the upper leg after a hockey injury. Sissy Testa, a 31-year-old academic counselor in Chicago, likewise speaks highly of CBD to relieve both stress and anxiety and also its linked neck discomfort. Mitchell Roth, a movie producer in San Francisco, goes as far as to credit scores CBD for breaking his spouse's addiction to opioids, which she initially utilized to take care of discomfort related to endometriosis. She's currently off both materials.
Some physicians are on board, as well. Dr. Charlton Woodly, a podiatric doctor in Texas that has no monetary risk in CBD items, integrates CBD into clients' recovery from surgery, breaks and sprains. "I utilize it in my method due to the fact that, unlike pain medications, such as Tylenol, CBD does not cause kidney or liver concerns while giving the very same discomfort alleviation," he says. And Dr. Philip Blair, a family doctor that functions as medical supervisor of the CBD brand name Elixinol, states he's made use of CBD with over 2,000 individuals after the study as well as his experience persuaded him the substance, as a matter of fact, wasn't as well good to be true. Within minutes of providing a person CBD, he claims, "I see relaxation of their facial muscle mass, they end up being extra meaningful and spontaneous, their eyes grow and their shoulders loosen up. I listen to a deep sigh of relief."
However some scientists and clinicians warn versus prematurely jumping on the CBD bandwagon, which is getting participants and also momentum given that the passing away of the 2018 Ranch Expense, regulations that completely legislates hemp, a variety of the marijuana plant. But even that interest is illinformed, claims Dr. Jordan Tishler, a Harvard medical professional and also CEO of InhaleMD, a Boston-area practice focusing on cannabis therapies. The costs, he claims, will help farmers as well as the economic situation given that it will stimulate the growth of brand-new products like fabrics. Yet, he includes, "that has absolutely nothing to do with medication." Right here's what else he as well as various other wellness specialists claim customers require to recognize:
1. CBD isn't entirely lawful.
CBD companies, some healthcare experts and also some news reports make blanket asserts that CBD is totally lawful in every state. Tishler says that's much from the fact.
CBD Backlinks
Until lately, the united state Medicine Enforcement Administration took into consideration all cannabinoids, consisting of CBD, a routine 1 medicine, which suggests it was as unlawful as heroin from the federal government's perspective. And also while CBD is no more a timetable 1 medicine, it stays unlawful until the united state Food and Drug Administration releases new policies and also firms remain in conformity, Tishler describes. The only kind of CBD that's lawful in the federal government's eyes is the prescription medication Epidiolex, which the FDA accepted in 2018 to deal with seizures associated with 2 unusual types of epilepsy-- as well as absolutely nothing else. (CBD might be legal, however, if obtained through a state medical marijuana program.) And also although hemp, which is managed by the united state Department of Farming, is legal so long as the THC web content is negligible, individuals that intend to make CBD by farming hemp need to have a license to do so via the federal government or, in some cases, their state, Tishler clarifies. Sadly, there's no good method to understand if your producer has actually gotten this, he claims.
Still, the federal government isn't implementing CBD's illegal status, and also some states like Colorado are actioning in to fill in regulative voids locally. Simply put, customers aren't likely going to obtain in lawful difficulty for buying or using CBD, however that's not the same as a green light.
2. The study on CBD for pain relief is appealing, however nascent.
Researchers understand that CBD works in treating unusual kinds of epilepsy, but they have not performed any kind of human researches exploring if as well as how it functions to handle discomfort. Nonetheless, animal researches use hints. A rodent research study in the European Journal of Discomfort, for one, showed that topical CBD assisted reduced arthritis-related pain as well as swelling. In a recent study released in the journal Pain, Dr. Gabriella Gobbi as well as colleagues suggested that low-dose CBD was effective at reducing discomfort and anxiety by disrupting a neurotransmitter linked to both. Blair, that worked as a Military battle physician in the first Gulf War, states there may be 150 mechanisms through which CBD works in the body.
But Tishler claims the strongest assistance for cannabis as well as pain relief includes THC, which might or might not be made use of along with CBD." [CBD] need to be better studied by physicians as well as scientists, and then go though the drug advancement stages and authorized by regulatory agencies before being marketed," claims Gobbi, a teacher in McGill College's neurobiological psychiatry unit.
3. Buying CBD can be high-risk.
Because CBD fails governing cracks, it's tough to absolutely understand how much CBD you're getting and also if you're getting it in any way, in addition to what you could be obtaining instead, like chemicals and also toxins. "It's a wild west marketplace," Blair claims. One research discovered that nearly 70 percent of all CBD items sold on-line consist of amounts of CBD that are either greater or lower than what was reported on the tag. And also, business utilize various CBD resources, removal methods and also manufacturing techniques. At least, CBD may be a waste of time and also money for some people.
CBD Guest Post
If you agree to take the risk, seek products that are American-made, organic, full-spectrum (suggesting it likewise consists of other possibly useful compounds located in hemp) and also don't include thinning or flavoring representatives, suggests National Discomfort Report, a wire service that covers chronic discomfort.
4. No substance is safe for every person.
CBD seems to be rather risk-free-- the most serious of reported adverse effects are reasonably benign concerns like exhaustion. There's additionally nothing to suggest it can be addicting, the Globe Wellness Organization reports. Yet health experts worry that CBD (if, of course, that's what you're obtaining) can interact with other medicines and supplements in a potentially hazardous means. And, Even if it originates from a plant does not imply it's harmless; regarding half of medications including those "poisonous" sufficient to be utilized for chemo originated from plants, Gobbi mentions. Talk with a doctor that's a professional in pain about the very best treatment option for you, she recommends, "and also bear in mind that CBD is a medicine with adverse effects."

sort of a musing on Amanda LaRusso
Amanda was never good at “caring” the way people expected a good little girl to care. She got bored with other peoples problems quickly.
She was biting too. Never good at pretending. Always got to the point. Realized early on that you were a winner or a loser, and that she hadn’t been born on the winning side. It wasn’t until she started to get older and figured out how to tailor herself to others’ expectations - a bit of wit, a tight dress, a smile to mitigate the sting of her words - that she began to change all that.
It was wrong, anyway. All those people who thought she was cold or whatever. Women were meant to be emotional and empathetic and she wasn’t those things, but she did care. She cared about not fitting in, she cared about making something for herself, she cared about smoothing down her rough edges until they were invisible, unless she wanted to cut you. Sometimes she even cared for whatever boyfriend or girlfriend she kept around for longer than a month, extended her little bubble around them until they burst it and she had to excise them.
And she cared about Daniel. She hadn’t even wanted to care about Daniel, but he got under your skin in some incalculable way (she’d learn years later just how many peoples skins he’d gotten under, so she could be forgiven for falling into his endearingly unintentional trap).
She’d started out competitive, thinking about all the ways to win, but she was always practical. They worked better together. Best sales team in the valley. Getting married made sense. He was on the way up and so was she. They’d pull each other up. They were attracted to each other (he was a giver from the beginning - a rare gem amongst men). And she cared about him. That made him practically unique until the kids came along.
Mr Miyagi was an odd, but welcome addition. That was another thing about Daniel. Apart from the family he didn’t bring any baggage with him (she thought back then). Amanda could deal with the fact that his mom and her didn’t like each other too much. Daniel was all hers. Miyagi was unobtrusively present in everything that Daniel did. He grounded Daniel into something less flighty than Amanda suspected he would be if left to his own devices.
Amanda did the rest.
Smoothed out some of his rough edges the way she’d smoothed out her own. Best sales team in the valley, best dealership in the valley, a perfect couple. A kid was an expectation too, to cement that picture; one that she felt fine about, because Daniel wasn’t the kinda guy who’d push her into some mothering, “caring” role once the baby was born.
Not that she didn’t care.
From the moment she saw Sam, she thought: This one might be yours, but I’ll make sure she doesn’t get hurt like me. She’ll learn to smooth out her edges much quicker, be the kind of girl who doesn’t get left out. The kind of girl who doesn’t make the mistake of trying to be too much herself. She’ll be fine.
I won’t let anyone hurt her.

You had no right to post that. Anything about me. They still bullied me and sent me hate. You only wanted to cause drama. I'm sorry for whatever I did. But you should've talked to me. Message me or something if you we're unhappy with anything I was doing. But no. You didn't keep it a private matter between us. You let the whole world know.
You wanna talk, let's talk.
A. I have come to you before to speak about many issues that I had because I'm very easy going and yet, you always ended up deleting our conversations as if they never happened and since I've been through that type of cycle before with Jen on Polyvore, I began keeping screenshots of every conversation and post since.
B. You're getting mad at me because you say that I didn't come to you about this—(when I actually tried too but you just ignored and deleted our conversations afterwards)—you just went and accused my best friend Kay of stealing Elora, when I actually helped Kay develope Anya Skywalker to make the her more unique. ALSO, nothing of them are alike. The only thing they have in common is that they're both Elizabeth Olsen FCs; that's it.
C. I actually did have the right to post that. It's my blog and it was my mental health on the line and the expense of me wanting to continue creating my ocs and stories. Keeping all my feelings on the inside was not doing anything for me. I spoke my peace; I was mature about it and asked my friends not to send you any hate. And I know that my friends would respect my wishes; now as for anons, every one in the oc community has been getting hateful anons that feed off creating chaos and trouble.
D. You once badgered me about how I needed to write Elektra's story and called her a very dull and boring oc, and that she wasn't as great as my other ocs that I had created previously. You left me what you deemed to be "criticism" and "help" when in reality, it was just you slandering and being borderline hostile toward her—and not to mention your homophobic comment toward Elektra ending up with Rey, and saying that the Skywalker family died with Elektra and when I said, "No. Not unless she and Rey adopt."
You very clearly said that being adopted doesn't make them Skywalkers since they're not blood related. First of all, that's very rude towards adoptive kids with parents; telling them that they're not family because they don't share the same blood. It's wrong, hurtful, and I even told you that blatantly. Secondly, you tried to excuse yourself by saying that you were raised in a religious setting. So was I, but you don't see me making those types of comments.
and E. I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT OWNING FACECLAIMS. NOT ONCE. I have no idea where you got that idea from but unlike some people in this oc community, I'm not one of those people who believe in gatekeeping faceclaims because of course everyone uses Crystal Reed, Holland Roden, Danielle Rose Russell, Nina Dobrev, etc for many specific fandoms because their content works and because they have a lot of it from being in numerous projects!
We have had this conversation before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is all I said to you. I literally say "You can have a similar fc . . . as long as the oc and plot are different." Meaning that you can have the same name or variant of a name and fc as another, but make sure the story is something new and exciting.
See, my problem is that whenever I made an OC it seemed like days later you'd make one that was just like it. At first, I ignored it until it kept on happening more and more and I began getting paranoid to the point that I didn't even want to share my ocs and their stories anymore; which is why I stopped posting so much on Quotev.
I've always treated you with respect but it felt like somewhere along the way, you made me feel like I couldn't have fun with writing when I use it as an outlet and I didn't feel safe anymore.

Yandere Simulator Delinquents.
They're basically copy and paste. Sooo here's my version of them for future reference! I got too excited writing the last one lol- It's been a while since I've been to inspired to write. This is a nice feeling uvu
Umeji Kizuguchi - Yellow guy
He has blonde, previously pink, hair and golden eyes. He wears a yellow shirt under unbuttoned blazer and carries a baseball bat around. He has a scar over his right eye. Umeji is Oroso right hand man and takes over position while she's gone; these are the cannon versions of him and all that's said.
This is my fannon version of him: He was hurt the most during the bullying and therefore the most fearful of pain. He flinches when touched and gets pissed instantly. He's the most cold and aggressive out of the five and it helped him keep him as the most feared of the delinquents. He works out daily, therefore having a good build and likes bitter foods rather than sweets. He'a quite ignorant and refuses to share his likes out of fear of being judged. He still feels depression but now faces more anxiety than anything. He often cries about it late at night.
But despite his depression, he's so determined to stay as a threat to many. It's the kist alive he's ever felt. He's somewhat narcissistic and has both an inferiority and superiority complex, actually. Sensitive to touch and criticism but damn his ego is big. He uses his strength and speed as another threat to fellow students, to let them know that if they mess up then he'll catch and hurt them.
His home life isn't fun. Parents maybe fighting here and there or gone for work or something. It wasn't abusive in any way or anything; in fact, they get along well when they're together. It's just the parents weren't attentive. As Umeji puts it, "My mom, dad, bless their hearts, but they aren't great." They tend to brush things off quickly and spend too much time to themselves.
Dairoku Surikizu - Blue manz
He has blonde, previously blue, hair and blue eyes. He wears a blue shirt under an unbuttoned blazer and carries around a boten or some shit, idk I couldn't figure it out. He has a scar on his lip and from Mulberry's art, it looks like he's the tallest of the group.
Fannonly, he's the most anxious of the group. He never talks about it to anyone but Hokuto, who brushes it off. Dairoku got his scar a long time ago when his parents were agruing; he hid under his bed when he was nine and started to cry. To calm himself, he started to bite his lip and scratch himself on the forearms and face to calm himself down. He cut himself in the process badly and tried to hide it from his parents so he didn't get yelled at.
His home life wasn't too bad either; his dad left the family not long after that incident when he was nine so his mom has to take on the roles of two people. She never has time for him so the other delinquents make him feel so happy. He likes- no, loves to talk to them but tries to look sketchy in the process.
Hokuto Furukizu - Purple manz
He has blonde, previously golden, hair and purple eyes. From Mulberry's art, he seems to be the second tallest, but very close to Dairoku. He carried around a metal pipe and wears a purple shirt under his opened blazer. He has a scar on his cheek too btw.
Fannonly, he talks most to Dairoku. He usually brushed off what he says, but relates to him most. Of the 5, he desperately wants to be normal and free the most. He was well popular in middle school but his anger once got the best of him and a fight caused him to lose a lot of his reputation. It just got worse as time went on however; but he misses those days so much.
His scare on his cheek came from the fight and serves as a curse mark to him; "The day they ruined my life." He hates looking at it and gets pissed off when people even look at it. He's always been hot headed but his physical appearance is his number one insecurity. Hokuto's homelife is normal and he's goodboi at home. Cleans, cooks sometimes, has an equally good relationship with his mom as he does his dad.
He managed to convince them that his new appearance and signs of depression from last year was just influence from ex friends. Eventually they just took his word for it despite how terrible of a lie that is, so they stopped asking.
Gaku Hikitsuri - Red guyz
According to Mulberry's art, the blonde who once had light blue hair and red eyes is the second tallest. He has a scar on his forehead and carried around a crowbar. His shirt is red and under, you guessed it, an unbuttoned blazer.
He's a genuine tsundere; the angriest of the group. He easily crushes on people like a simp and gets nervous easily, so he acts all defensive and aggressive around them especially. Other than Umeji, he's the quickest to shove people around and assert his position. But for the most part, he intentionally shoves and shoulder checks people he finds attractive or who he thinks is superior than him, which is a lot of people.
He suffers from an inferiority complex that makes him think everyone judges him behind his back and talks about him especially. Therefore, he's the loudest and quickest to insults; he's also very self conscious. He's scared to make noise in class, talk, eat in front of people, and others because he's scared to be judged. Because as long as nothing is brought to the table, there's nothing to judge. His scar was actually from Kokoro, the bully who's just a sadist according to the character files from Yandev, who got pissed at him defending himself and hit him down with a ring. He got cut badly and almost passed out from the hit; but hey, it's not like he can do anything about since she's a girl, and he'd be expelled instantly. The bitch even resulted him with a broken arm at some point.
Home life isn't great; rundown trailerpark, alcoholic dad and whole of a step mom, dead mom, things like that. Damn, if only he got more than a mattress on the floor, a cover, pillow, dresser filled with all his clothes and school supplies to live on. But he can't even get a job without his scar making people think he's worse than what his persona displays.
Hayanari Tsumeato - Grey manz
The grey eyed, blonde hair man with natural red hair who carries around a lead pipe is Hayanari, who's last name "Tsumeato" means scratch mark. He has a grey shirt under his unbuttoned blazer and a scar over his nose.
Fannonly, he was the one with the no fucks given attitude. He was usually straight faced and brutally honest when talking to people, but wasn't necessarily judgemental. It's hard to explain but just because he says, "damn Daniel, you're built like a carrot," doesn't mean he cares about his appearance, even if whoever tf Daniel is actually looks like a carrot or not. He was the daredevil who did things solely for his entertainment.
In a way, it was almost sociopathic or narcissistic; he'd be fine with embarrassing someone in front of anyone because it got a smile our of him. If someone complained, he'd roll his eyes and convince whoever that they were overreacting and that they were the one at fault. He's very manipulative and sarcastic, usually just smiling cockily and speaking innocently. Kinda emo, but he wasn't against that title. He actually liked the occult and for the most part, was down for anything that didn't have too much time needed, like school or family.
He was in the middle of everything; okay with cooking, occult, art, science, reading, anine and games, so there wasn't much a person can dislike him for in terms of social standards. He wasn't appart of a dislikes group like the occult kids or science kids, not with a loved group like cooking or art kids. But when he started to express a bit of interest in the occult was when people could finally pin him down and bully him back for all those insulting jokes that sounded way too serious. And before he knew it, he got wrapped up in the hate and couldn't get himself free.
Home life is something he never, not even to his fellow delinquents, never talks about. But one thing worth noting is that he's never seen without a long sleeved shirt or jacket of some kind. He used to pass out time to time during gym classes because he was overheated due to bringing a long sleeved version of the gym shirt to school and never drank anything. When his parents were called, they always insisted on saying they'll do something about it but they never did, either. The delinquents do think there's some kind of abuse at his house; besides, Hayanari is adopted and those things happen often even if it's more common in the foster system.
His family is something he never talks about. Back in middle school, his friends were able to see his "parents" time to time when they picked him up from school. It was immediately obvious that he wasn't related to them; hell, he rarely called them mom or dad. At home, until adopted, was great. Friends coming over, happy family moments, being able to play games and use electronics, things like that. But when he was adopted was when it wouldn't be easy to just tell someone what was to come; quite obviously, it was abuse. Verbal and physical, nearly everyday. It was worse in the beginning but happened less often as he got older.
His "mom" would call the police a few times him because she felt "threatened." She hit him so he would hit back and yell while doing so, so she has evidence of an attack. But luckily, her skin isn't sensitive enough to show any marks unlike Hayanari's. Other times, his "dad" would get involved and hurt him badly.

THOTS ON SHADOW AND BONE
Hello everyone! it is I, Trice, and i come with my thoughts on the Shadow and Bone show cause ive got many
I'm gonna divide this in what i liked, what i disliked, and what i think could have been better but didn't really bother me. Feel free to send your opinions too!
As a whole, I really liked the show and I think it's a great adaptation that both fans and newcomers will enjoy. It's super well done! and every episode had me glued to the tv even though I knew what was going to happen.
Beware this is long
Tumblr media
To start,
What i liked
Mal and Alina
I never really liked Mal in the books, mainly cause he had like, nothing going on for him, and not having his pov made him no favors whatsoever. Alina's perception of him was everychanging, two factors that didn't make him unlikeable necessarily, but that made me not want to read about him. In the show he's way more likeable and even though he still doesn't have a lot going on for him, you can see that he's always trying to protect alina, and you also see a bit of his demeanor through Archie's acting. I think he made a great job at portraying him. And Alina! Alina who in the books was essentially a y/n sort of character (although she did get better over time), her character, likes, dislikes, her DRIVE was incredibly portrayed in the show. Also Jessie (loml, marry me) and Archie have incredible chemistry together and they sold their yearning SO WELL (and so did the kid actors portraying them as children oh my GOD)...yall...i cried when they held hands. My favourite scene was definitely when Alina took care of Mal's wounds (a favorite trope of mine). And the HURT in their eyes whenever they thought the other was in danger....i saw the show dubbed but I'm sure their voices made it beyond incredible as well, their face acting was just on. point. Overall the show rEALLY makes me root for them both individually and together which is something the books didn't manage to do.
The Darkling
AAAAA i really enjoyed the Darkling omg, incredible charisma, Ben does such a great job (and so did his voice actor in Spanish oh my GOD). His acting was just as I imagined it in the books and i loved how he could be as sweet and mysterious as he could be menacing. In fact! i liked him more than i did in the book, and i think it was a great choice to make him more human. I'm not sure if this was Ben or the writing, but i could really see his yearning for an equal, for Alina, his loneliness and his thirst for power and control too. Great love interest, even greater villain. And his wardrobe was phenomenal. I also really liked how they implied that The Darkling was a name given by other people, it was very believable that people would call someone who literally controls shade something akin to "son of the dark" or something of the sort, instead of it being a name he gives himself or his job title (both if which are incredibly pathetic and cringy to think about).
Jesper
No comments. He was just great. I love Kit.
Nina
Omg Danielle did SUCH a great job at portraying Nina, it's exactly how i imagined her in Six of Crows.
Helnik
THE. YEARNING. THE. CHEMISTRY. I didn't love their scenes at the boat but once that was over I was practically screaming at the screen to jUST KISS ALREADY. Calahan and Daniell have such good chemistry together and the few changes they made only served the story better. I did wish they had development over more time cause Matthias' change of mind felt too quick, but i get why they had to rush. Because of how good their chemistry was, their fallout also was incredibly painful.
Inej's fear of the Menagerie and her morals
Amita's portrayal of Inej's hurt, devotion and her refusal to kill (and later hurt cause she has killed) is incredibly subtle but so SO effective. She's so talented really and truly sold Inej's feelings throughout the show.
VFX
Man.....the fold, the volcra, the grisha powers.....kudos to the animators and overall artistic team cause they were incredible. Also seeing the different title animations in each episode was such a tiny detail that made me so excited and they all looked so good.
Ketterdam
Again, kudos to the artistic team, everything about Ketterdam felt so alive (and weirdly moist), truly sold a kind of aesthetic and life that is so characteristic if the Barrel, even when i didn't imagine it that way in the books.
David
He appeared like, twice, and both times were so cute and charming I can't wait to see more of him both on his own and with Genya.
The Wardrobe
So, at first i hated the keftas. I thought the looked tacky and costume, but when you see them on screen they're just perfect (although i have to say the patterns on some of the keftas were kind of...cheap looking? and the training keftas were just kinda boring. My favourite was the Darkling's. Aside from that, i really liked Kaz's and inej's clothes too. Very distinctive and recognizable (although it was kind of weird seeing Inej in teal instead of purple lmao).
And the queen's dresses. Chefs kiss.
It's...so cheesy (affectionate)
The whole show felt like the kind of movies I would watch as a kid like Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean. The writing was stylized enough to make it incredibly dramatic and overall there was just so much heart behind all of it. Definetely a show to watch again and again and feel all of it, cause that's what it being so cheesy managed, to make me actually feel for it. It feels like something to watch on a rainy afternoon after a bad day....it's great okay i really enjoyed it, even (specially) the most unbelievable parts of it. And here's the thing, it's something that i think a lot of newer tv and film have lost, so this is good.
What i didn't like
Zoya
Mostly cause of the writing. Originally, in the first book, i didn't like her, neither as a character (stereotypical mean girl with no other motivation than to bang the love interests....all three of them....what's new i still think it's an incredibly sexist trope) or a person (hey at least this was intentional), but over time i grew to LOVE her (mean girl turns out to have a good heart and actually respects the mc and decides to fight alongside her cause it's what's right, without necessarily liking her or giving up her character??? AND she has strong motivations??? now THAT'S new). In the show, i hoped they would keep her mean girl nature while foreshadowing her depth, but all they did was turn her into a petty seductress with barely any screentime, and that only makes her not even a bad antagonist but just a boring character to watch. Not only that but they took away a big part of her character that needed to be developed in the next books. I wanted to watch her rivalry with Alina, her unjustified venomous tongue too, I wanted to be entertained by her and I wasn't. This was also a problem cause when she finally changed teams, and when she hugged Alina, it was incredibly unsatisfying, it would have had a way stronger effect if we had seen her being Ruthless Zoya with a big ambition. I also didn't like how we were told that she didn't like alina, or that she had a family, instead of it being shown on screen. Just from the show, all i can tell you about her is that she likes to bang people and she has a good moral code i guess. Yall, I'm so petty about this.
Kaz
So, I didn't hate him, in fact i think I would have enjoyed him if I hadn't read the books first, cause the two things that bother me about him were two essential characteristics of him in the books. FIrstly, he seems so strained, instead of the seemingly laid back, almost chill looking (even though we know he's not chill at all) Kaz we see in the books, the Kaz that always knows something that you don't. Show Kaz doesn't seem to always be in control, to always have the last word, the last laugh. Instead he seems strained, all the damn time. And I think this is mainly a writing and directing issue. And he also seems weak, something Book Kaz would never do. This is also an issue cause because he doesn't have the same presence he has in the books, the times where he is weak, don't seem as effective. Sure, Pekka Rollins has essentially reduced him and humiliated him, but I haven't seen enough of Kaz being actually dangerous for this to be shocking and for Pekka to seem even more hateable (and, i really liked Pekka, loved him as an antagonist more than i did in the books). Idk, Kaz was so charismatic and just fun and engaging to read in the books that his portrayal in the show felt lacking.
Alina's power's VFX
The little suns were cute and all but the light coming from within her was just ugly I'm sorry.
SFX
A lot of the sound design was just too stylized for the tone of the show i think. I particularly remember the sound of Mal's punches....what's that about.
What i think could have been better, but didn't particularly dislike
The Crows' storyline
And i think part of this is a consequence of Kaz not being as witty as he was in the books. Where's the incredibly complicated heist moves? the even more unbelievable C and D plans when something goes wrong? I didn't like that them getting Alina was essentially just luck, cause i didn't see enough of them being smart and quick on their feet. I also think it was unnecessary to have their storyline mixed with Alina's, i would have enjoyed watching a different heist, maybe in Ravka as well, and them incidentally crossing paths with Alina, more than i liked this storyline. ironically enough, the heist was the part i was least interested in
Genya and Alina
I just feel like her relationship with Alina wasn't strong enough, and i think it's because the show tried to make us believe they were much closer than they were without spending the necessary time in them.
Overall, I really really enjoyed the show, i will be watching it again (particularly cause i want to watch it in English) and i cannot wait for the second season omg (although i have to say, I'm scared for Nikolai)
I think that's all! I would also love to read yall's opinions and have a conversation.

Hi, first of all I really admire how much effort you put in your posts and answers as well as your insight and eye for details. I really could use your help, all the hate Dany gets lately is so tiring and imho unjust. Now even a friend of mine that always loved her started hating on her and I think she just doesn't understand Dany. Do you have some sort of character analysis on your blog or know where I could find one? Thank you in advance.
Wow, thank you! And anon, I could not agree more. Upsettingly, I’m having the same issue with a friend IRL too, having been told “Dany’s always been a brat”.
Regrettably, I haven’t really done much in the way of Dany metas… I’d say I have better luck picking up steam when I get asks, particularly since it gives me a sense of direction (and the influx of asks is a very new thing). Oh, I did write a little meta on her parallels between ancient Mother Goddess Danu!
While the vitriol for our queen is absolutely uncalled for… I have a theory that the way she is framed is actually intentional.
Jon Snow is probably something of a red herring. At least in the way that it’s presumed this story is really all about him ascending to power and coming into his throne. The prince that was promised. Azor Ahai. Rightful heir. All of it.
(That’s not to say he’s unimportant)
But his female counterpart/mirror, inarguably the most powerful character in the series, isn’t taken very seriously by casual fans, her enemies, the Westerosi, etc (she’s referred to as Daenela by some smallfolk, which oddly sounds a whole lot like the name the antis use to disrespect her character - Danielle).
And despite the fact that she and Jon share such similar story arcs (such as getting swept up into a foreign culture and having to adapt to survive) she is often interpreted as mad or verging on evil, even though Jon has shown the same capacity for ruthlessness. In fact, watch their beheading scenes again - Daenerys is trying to make a statement about law and justice, and Jon? He seems more driven by personal vengeance. But they made Janos look so bad that by the time he was begging for mercy, we were rooting for Jon.
Another difference in how they’re perceived is that Jon gets much more compassion when it comes to his childhood. Unlike Daenerys, he was still surrounded by family and had a stable place to call home. Meanwhile, Daenerys ran from city to city with a verbally and physically abusive older brother, and one of their caretakers, Illyrio, had to vigorously fuck a whore so as not to rape Daenerys, basically. I mean gods, what a brat!
In the books, it’s easier to realize Dany isn’t a villain because you get access to her thoughts and intentions. But the show? All we have is Emilia’s face to try to convey things to the audience. And if they don’t match the words she’s saying, it’s completely lost on them. Now, if you’re someone who ignores her past - then yes, in season 8, it probably looks like she’s power hungry, when in reality - her one security, Jon, is slipping away - so she’s reverting back to the one constant she’s had for years. The quest for the throne.
And excuse my language here, but this bitch is really bringing all of her resources up to the north - for nothing but her love for Jon Snow - and no one cares. She’s about to save them from certain death - hell, not just death - but eternal servitude to this creepy ice demon. And they’re bitching about how much food her armies are going to eat. You know, the ones there to die for their ungrateful asses? Anon, I gotta tell you… it’s really hard for me to even wrap my head around the audience response to Dany - or that somehow, it’s okay for Sam to be upset that his monster of a father was killed, but not Dany.
People who are already predisposed to dislike her can’t see the loneliness and vulnerability there, they can’t see she’s feeling lost, perhaps even regretful. They’re fooled by her queenly mask of indifference. The one that disappears when she is alone:
Tumblr media
This is another good example. During the war council scene, Sam blatantly shades Dany by saying this:
“That’s what death is, isn’t it? Forgetting. Being forgotten.”
When the words “being forgotten” are said, Daenerys looks at Jon:
Tumblr media
Considering the way Jon is ignoring her, it’s amazing that Dany is still there to fight his war. Just another reason none of them deserve her help. Without Jon she has no reason to be there. While everyone is upset that Dany is going to ‘go mad’ and ‘kill Jon’ - he’s been avoiding even looking at her for who knows how long in GoT time, and yet she stays.
And all the antis can say is that she’s “power hungry”. They so much as hear her say the word ‘throne’ and somehow see madness there, ignoring all subtleties of her emotional state. Yet, if Jon were to do a 180 and declare himself king - everyone would root for him, I’m sure of it. If the throne suddenly became a priority for Jon Snow, people would be popping open wine bottles in celebration. No one would call him entitled. No one would say he’s power hungry. No. I bet he’d ‘deserve it’.
It’s important to remember that not only is Daenerys one of GRRM’s favorite characters, he also identifies with her story:
“I came from greatness - like Dany! And I will take back what is mine with Fire and Blood!”
Tumblr media
Further, the man’s a feminist (regardless of how he labels himself, now - more or less afraid to step on anyone’s toes by using the term as a man).
I can’t remember who pointed this out, but it’s hysterical to me, now, because in retrospect, it’s almost like he predicted her antis:
“If even half the stories coming back from Slaver’s Bay are true, this child is a monster. They say that she is bloodthirsty, that those who speak against her are impaled on spikes to die lingering deaths. They say she is a sorceress who feeds her dragons on the flesh of newborn babes, an oathbreaker who mocks the gods, breaks truces, threatens envoys, and turns on those who have served her loyally. They say her lust cannot be sated, that she mates with men, women, eunuchs, even dogs and children, and woe betide the lover who fails to satisfy her. She gives her body to men to take their souls in thrall.”
I think GRRM knew exactly what he was doing. Despite the fact he is a man, he’s lived through much uglier times for women, and he’s been aware of the female struggle for a long time. This is his legacy. A female hero with a storyline more powerful than any man in the series, who finds herself in precarious situations and has to make difficult decisions, sometimes exercising ruthlessness to assert her power and dominance.
She’s complicated, she’s unique, we haven’t quite seen the likes of a fictional woman quite like Daenerys.
She will be analyzed and discussed for decades to come - and there may come a point in the future that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen might be viewed through the same lens. One in which critiques of Jon’s actions might be as harsh as the ones we see of Dany’s now, or that the ones for Dany become as lenient as the ones of Jon, now.
It might be too optimistic of me to think that even D&D know what they’re doing, here - framing Daenerys in a way that is not as easily interpreted by those who are predisposed to misogyny, all in an effort to expose it. And that upon rewatch, the culmination of her hero’s journey becomes clear as day for anyone willing to set aside their preconceived notions and finally see her for what she is.
                            A hero. A savior. A legend.
“That character, as a whole, is all about transformation and change. I feel like she is the divine feminine spirit. She’s there to change things rapidly. I have no doubt that a thousand years from this point, people will worship Daenerys Targaryen. That’ll be a holy name. This is the Mhysa. This is the woman that came and brought back dragons to the world and saved all the slaves.”—IdeasOfIceAndFire
For your final request. I wish I were more organized, anon, but here are the top blogs that come to mind when it comes to incredible Daenerys positivity. These bloggers post amazing metas and analyses, shut down antis left and right, and just generally spread the true word about our queen:
@rainhadaenerys @mhysaofdragons @oadara @khaleesirin @secretlyatargaryen @iheartdandelions @tatticstudio55 @winelover1989
I do have a small list of metas I’ve managed to gather on short notice:
Daenerys Targaryen: Master Post
Meta on the contention of Dany’s arc in feminist analysis
Dany III in ADWD again transitions to Jon & Tyrion
Why saying that Daenerys is nothing without her dragons is offensive
Daenerys - Books vs Show - Sexism and Bad Writing in the show
Daenerys Targaryen and “Madness”
A Dance with Dragons, or: Daenerys Targaryen Cares about Feeding her People
Daenerys doesn’t need to be a villain to be interesting
Arya Stark and Daenerys Targaryen Parallels
Daenerys as an anti-Cinderella?
I’m also a big fan of YouTube for GoT/ASOIAF content, and the few pro-Dany YouTubers who really seem to “get it” are GrayArea (this video, in particular, is amazing despite the misleading title), Lucifer Means Lightbringer and IdeasofIceandFire.

Mm slasher children whoops
I was highly inspired by @leatherfacebabe to finally make kids for my self insert and Thomas Hewitt. These two have 8 kids in total and one very very lazy blood hound.
Now them kids uwu
The oldest, the triplets. All 18 years old.
Tumblr media
James-Dean, the first born. He is almost a replica of his father but younger. He always wore the mask, even as a child, at first it was just him mirroring his dad but now its become him. Getting him to take off the mask is like trying to bathe a cat, someone is gonna get hurt. Unlike the other two he doesn't leave the house often, he is often outside doing god knows what or in the basement.
Then Augustus or "Gus" for short, Gus was the one that deemed the flesh eating disease "Hewitt hater". Gus is often found also at the gas station, he tries to keep the place clean but the flies always seem to find there way in the deli. He's a quiet boy but won't hesitate to speak about his emotions or really anything. He is well known on bringing in the latest dinner.
The last triplet is Ed, he has his mothers stubbornness, especially when it comes to hiding his face. He hates masks, they feel constricting to him. He is often in the kitchen helping Luda Mae with cooking or at the gas station when she isn't there.
Then its Marshall, 16 years old.
Tumblr media
His name was given to him by Hoyt, Hoyt wanted to name at least one kid. Marshall is Hoyt's second in command, what Hoyt says Marshall repeats but louder. Marshall's hair is a dark brown and buzzed thanks to Hoyt "Ain't no officer of mine gonn' be lookin' like a damn hippie" Marshall looks and acts like he is the law but as soon as he steps back in the house he's just Momma's boy.
Next is Gracie! She is 14 years old!
Tumblr media
Gracie, 14 years old and a daddies girl who is often in the basement (even though she's not allowed too). She loves to rough house and is more bite than bark.
Then it is the twins! Nathaniel and Daniel, both 12 years old.
Tumblr media
These two are rambunctious lil devils who love to play pranks on any living thing. They both have their fathers condition and sometimes when bored they pick at their skin, that often ends with their hands being slapped by Elizabeth and a quick scolding. The two love to prank Hoyt and Marshall, by hiding in the back of the car, slashing the tires, just being a nuisance. But many times they're scolded by Elizabeth and then comforted by Luda Mae, when it comes to Thomas. They don't play, they just listen because they've seen him chase after victims. They dont wanna be on the end of the chainsaw.
The last lil baby is Samantha! She is a 2 years old!
Tumblr media
Sam was adopted by Elizabeth, she was found in the back of the bar in the trash. Elizabeth couldn't let her stay there and took the infant in, while Sam looks nothing like her family she sure does act like them. She loves to grab onto Thomas's mask and loves to see his face. With Elizabeth she is just as sweet and Sam loves to talk, she will babble your head off while eating her baby food.
Anyways if you read this far thank you so much, i will now die for you.

Emily Walker
Daniel was offered the job as a security guard of Emily Walker. His heart started beating faster. His hands shaking a bit putting the letter back in the envelope. You got this. She might not even remember you.
‘Your duty starts Monday. But you can join us. We are going to Valtoria with King Liam for Jackson’s party. It’s tomorrow.’ Bastien informed him.
‘I will join you. Thank you so much.’ he smiled.
The next day he was back to Valtoria. Feeling little uncomfortable in the suit he was wearing. Completely out of place in the party. But Bastien insisted he came. Although the main reason for attending, which he wouldn't want to admit even to himself, was the girl dressed in a pink silk gown.
He stood with other guards at the back, watching her talking to her friend. He noticed her expression changed after her friend started talking to a noble and she was left alone. He sensed her getting lonely, looking at her parents and her brother, with a hint of sadness in her eyes. He couldn't stop himself walking towards her. he didn't know how she would react seeing him after such a long time.
All his worries vanished when she turned and their eyes met. The moment she saw him, her face beamed, a smile spread across her face. She ran towards him, all excited and pulled him in a hug. He skipped a bit as her body collided with him. He wanted to hold her, wanted the time to stop. But she pulled away, almost immediately. It was a friendly hug, you idiot! He reminded himself.
All the time they talked, his mind noted down how she was the same as before yet she had grown so much. He also noted her blush when she saw James Rhys. He is the crown prince. Go compete! He reminded himself of the reality. And then he heard Emily was going to Social Seasons to compete for the Prince's hand. He could see how excited she was. She is over you. It has been 3 and a half years. When will you move on? His mind scolded his heart.
---
Next day, Emily woke up early. Her happiness knew no bounds. Her best friend was back and James asked for her number. Can life be any more beautiful?
Her feets barely touched the ground as she bounced and skipped all the way to their dining room, where her family had gathered for breakfast.
‘Emily! you are in time for breakfast!’ Riley chimed looking at her daughter. Normally she didn't wake up this early even tough Riley called her every day to ask her to join them for breakfast. This was a pleasant surprise for them.
‘Who are you and what did you do to my sister?’ Jack teased her.
‘I just woke up early so I thought I should have breakfast with you guys.’ Emily smiled not taking the bait. She walked to give a hug to her father. Drake placed a soft kiss on her forehead. She went on to hug her mother. Sitting next to Riley was Jack, she just scrunched her nose and stick out her tongue to him.
‘That is a great look on you!’ Jack chuckled,’ I am sure the court will love that look on James’ suitor.’
Emily picked up a butter knife and pointed it to Jack, eyes glaring.
‘Are we really going to sponsor Emily?’ Riley asked Drake.
‘That is for Emily to decide.’ Drake stated.
‘She is just a kid!’ Riley exclaimed.
Drake placed his hand on Riley’s squeezing it gently.’She is all grown up now. I trust her. She can make her own decisions now.’ Emily smiled gratefully to her father.
Riley turned to Emily,’ Emily, I want you to understand that this is not just a competition. It is not only James and court who will choose one of the suitors. You also have a choice. You can withdraw from it anytime you want. You don’t need to...’
‘I know mom!’ Emily said annoyingly cutting her off.
Riley frowned, but Drake squeezed her hand again,’ Let's not spoil our moods. It's a beautiful Sunday morning and we four are together for breakfast after a very long time. '
Drake turned to Emily, ‘Angel, tell me what's new.’
‘Oh! You know the new security guard you appointed for me, Dad!? He is Daniel, you remember? My old friend!’
Jack looked down, trying to hide his smile. He silently finished his breakfast as his sister spent the next 30 minutes talking animatedly about Daniel and their childhood stories.
---
After a fun breakfast, Emily was in her room, lying on her stomach on her bed, looking at pictures of James on Instagram when she heard a knock on her door. 'Come in!' she called.
Jack peaked in, 'Hey kiddo', he came inside, hands in his pocket, 'Wanted to have a chat with you if you are free.'
'Ok. But I am busy, so please make it quick.' Emily said a little annoyed. She sat up straight, attentively to her brother.
'Actually, I wanted to talk about James. I think you should not participate in  the social season.' he said sitting on a chair in front of her.
'What? Why?'
'I have a feeling James is not right for you.' he said softly with concern mixed in his voice.
'Ha! You have a feeling! I think you are just jealous!' she pointed a finger to him in accusation.'Why would I be jealous?' he asked brows knitted.
'Because you know I am going to win. And then I will be a Princess and soon will be a Queen. While you will be just a Duke.' she said with a stern voice.
'Look! I had to warn you. You can decide what is best for you.' Jack said giving up, a little hurt with the comment his sister just made.
'This is not new. You never approved of anyone I have ever dated.' Emily was not ready to give up yet.
'That's because all of the guys you dated were jerks.' Jack retorted.
'All of the guys I dated were jerks! You think I always go for the wrong guy! You think I can't do anything right!' Emily’s voice got louder.
'Yes! You would not notice the perfect guy for you even if he was right in front of you!' his voice low but firm. He started leaving, he didn't want to argue with her.
'Yes! I am that stupid. But James is a prince! Mom and Dad are both excited about this. They cannot be wrong.' she stood up and followed Jack.
'Look! I might not have approved of any guy you dated, but I never interfered. But you are planning to marry a guy you hardly know. I just don't want you to regret your decision.' he turned before leaving, pleaded one last time to her.
Emily opened her mouth to respond, but she was interrupted by her phone ringing. She held it up for Jack to see James number flashing. Jack shook his head and left her room.
Emily closed her door and picked up the phone. ‘Hi,’ her voice soft and timid.
‘Hi,’ she heard James voice from the other side, warm and cheerful.
‘I thought you would wait for three days before calling me. Standard rule.’ she said teasing him a little.
‘I was not aware of any such rule! I hope I have not offended the lady by my eagerness to hear her voice.’
Emily blushed. ‘No. I liked the eagerness.’ she said biting her lower lip.
‘Emily,’ her heart jumped hearing her own name from him, his voice now passionate as he said, ‘I was not able to think about anything else after seeing you yesterday. How have I not noticed before how beautiful you are.’
‘You think you can win me by flattery?’ she smiled.
‘I hope so. Is it working?’
‘No.’ she said, hoping her voice wouldn't give away her actual feelings.
‘Then what would you suggest I should do to win you?’
‘I am not going to reveal my cards.’ she chuckled.
‘Fair enough. So would I have the pleasure of seeing you at the social season?’
‘Yes.’
‘That is so good to hear. I really wished you would attend. You know I at first refused to select a bride in social season. I mean one would think this ancient tradition would stop now. I want to marry someone I love or at least feel connected to.’
‘I understand. So why did you agree?’
‘As a crown prince, I have to make sure that whoever I marry, the court must approve of her. And Father promised me that I have the right to not select anyone from the suitors if I am not sure. So I agreed to give this tradition a chance. Maybe I will find someone.’ he stressed the last word, giving her a hint?
‘I hope you won't get partial to any one of the participant.’
‘I will try. ‘, he paused, ‘Emily, you need to understand, all the other girls, they have been preparing for this their entire life.’
‘Unlike me.’ she understood what he was getting at.
‘I realize you went to a public school instead of the Royal School.’
‘Is my attending public school a problem?’ she asked a little displeased.
‘No of course not. But you would have learned certain things in Royal School that would be helpful to please the court.’ he said. Emily remained silent.
‘Emily, you are like a rough diamond. You just need some polishing. I hope you don't mind me taking the liberty to appoint a trainer for you.’
‘A trainer? what for?’
‘Some Royal etiquette training. It will be helpful. Would you do it? I really don't want the court to judge you just because you crossed your legs incorrectly or waved your hand improperly.’
‘I guess it wouldn't hurt.’ Emily sighed and agreed. She never cared for Royal etiquette. She had seen her mother behaving a certain way, specifically in public. But she was at ease at home. Her mother never asked her to behave under a set of rules. But she understood that not everyone would think that way. And she was ready to change a little for James.
---
After talking to James, Emily couldn't contain her excitement. She couldn't believe James was as interested in her as she was in him. Could this be real? Could a crown prince choose her over all others? She could become the Queen one day!
She jumped up from her bed and ran to the mirror. She saw herself beaming in the mirror. She bounced up in excitement and ran back to her bed to pick up her phone. She wanted to talk to someone, to share her happiness. She called the first name that came to her mind.
‘Daniel! Where are you? Can you come to my room right now?’ Emily said in one breath, pacing around her room in excitement.
‘Hold on a second!’ he chuckled at the other end, ‘I was unpacking. I have moved in your estate.’ he said.
‘Cool! so I am coming to your room. I will help you unpack.’ Emily said.
‘No! wait.’ Daniel almost screamed, ‘Hold your horses! I am coming to your room.’
‘Perfect! I am ordering some coffee and cookies from the kitchen.’
‘Ok. Give me 5 minutes.’
‘So finally you are here.’ She greeted him when he knocked her door some five minutes later.
‘I came as fast as I could. ‘ he said catching his breath.
‘No silly! I mean back to Valtoria. After so many years! I have so much to tell you’ she turned and walked into her room, gesturing him to follow her. Daniel looked around. The room had changed a little but was still very much the same. This was the place he had made love... Focus. He forced himself back to present where Emily was talking to him about her conversation with James.
‘He said he is excited that I am attending Social Season! can you believe it?’ she said smiling all the while.
‘I am sure he is not as excited as you are.’ he grinned. A pain rising in his chest. He knew she was never his, then why was he feeling jealous? Why he wanted to tell her how he felt? Even though he knew he couldn’t. She was so excited about James. And that was what she deserved. A Prince.
‘You know I am so excited today! I am so happy you are back. I really missed you. I never thought I will see you again.’ she said sitting on the edge of her bed.
Daniel took a seat on a chair in front of her. ‘I am sorry I didn’t call.’
‘You should be! What the hell were you studying that kept you away for so long? Rocket Science?’ she complained.
Daniel chuckled,’Economics. I was also working part-time.’
‘Ya, you told me.’ she nodded,’ But what is an economics graduate doing as a security officer?’
‘Well, I joined as an intern in two places. But soon found out that I am not made for 9 to 5 desk job. That is when I found out about this training and job.’
‘Good. I hope you don’t plan to leave this job too?’
‘That depends on how many times I have to carry you home drunk.’ he grinned.
‘Oh! Jack was just kidding. I don't get drunk. And in fact, I don't even need security. I can defend myself. Thank you very much.’  she said with a proud voice.
‘So what am I doing here?’ he asked, a little confused.
‘Its a funny story actually. See last month, one of my friends had her birthday in a bar. We were drinking, dancing, the usual. Now a guy started flirting with me. I told him I was not interested. He still wouldn't budge. I tried to leave, but he grabbed me so I kicked him hard... between his legs.’
‘Ouch!’ Daniel couldn't help stop himself laughing.
‘Yup! he spent next hour or so rolling on the floor, hands pressed to his jewels’ Emily too joined him, their laughter echoed in her room.
‘So I am supposed to protect the poor handsy guys from you.’ Daniel teased her.
‘Pretty much. I told Dad I don't need security, but he didn't listen. But I am glad it is you instead of some old grumpy guy or a bossy lady.’
Daniel bowed a little - gesturing he was at her service.
‘Oh! But you might have to protect yourself from my friends. They too can get handsy when they see a hot guy.’ she added.
Daniel’s face flushed as he realized she just called him hot. He turned away, trying to hide his smile. When he looked back at her, she was smiling teasingly at him.
‘So what are you studying?’ he said changing the subject.
‘Arts’
‘That makes sense. I remember you were a really good artist. the sketches you used to make - they were really nice.’
‘If you liked those, you will love my new paintings. Want to see them?’
‘Sure!’ he said jumping up on his feet.
She led him to a room down the hall. The room was devoid of any furniture except a table that had paint brushes and color spread across. Several easels were set around the room, each with a painting.
’This is it, My creative den.’ she said arms wide, taking a slow swirl while stepping in the room. Daniel followed her, his jaw dropped at the sight in front of him.
‘You were right! these are amazing!’ Daniel moved around browsing the paintings on easels. There was one with a mother holding a child, one with a girl dancing, one with mountains of Valtoria.
‘Your paintings, they are so full of life! Just like you!’ Daniel said admiring a painting of two lovebirds on a branch.
‘Thanks.’ she said biting her lower lip. She was always conscious about sharing her paintings with the world. Only a few people had seen some of her paintings. Mainly just her family, a few close friends, and her professors. She didn't know why, but she always felt shy showing her paintings to anyone. Daniel was an exception though, she really wanted to impress him.
Daniel walked around admiring each of her paintings. After going through all the paintings on the easels, he went to paintings stacked vertically on a side. One of the paintings caught his attention. He carefully pulled it out.
‘Is this...? Is this me?’ Daniel said looking at it.
Oops. I forgot that was here. Be cool. Be cool.
‘Yes.’ she stated.
‘Why I am not wearing a shirt?’ he raised an eyebrow, lips curling in a smirk.
Coz that’s how I remember you - she blushed.
‘It was for a college project. It was supposed to be like that. I couldn't find a model, so I painted you from a picture I had.’ she said plainly, trying to hide the redness of her cheeks.
‘It is amazing! May I have it?’ He looked at the painting he was holding in his hands. He could swear he was looking at his own reflection in a mirror. Just that he looked three years younger.
‘No!’ she said with a playful anger on her face. That one is only for me. ‘You may not.’
Daniel chuckled and kept the painting back. A smile that had vanished from his face was back. And it was not going away anytime soon.

All The Crooked Saints
I recently finished 'The Raven Cycle' series by Maggie Stiefvater and it became one of my favorite series of all time. So I decided to read another book by the same author. Maggie wrote another series called 'Shiver' but it's not my cup of tea (werewolves and stuff) so I chose 'All The Crooked Saints' as my first summer read after my finals. I'm at the 3/4 mark and I love it!!
If you don' t know what it's about, it's basically about the Soria family that lives in Bicho Raro (a village in the desert) and that can perform miracles. They can give form to the darkness that exists inside people, like giving a girl who doesn't like her hair extremely long hair. After this 'first' miracle, it's up to the girl to figure out how to deal with her darkness, and once she finds a way to overcome it, she is 'liberated' and thus performs the 'second' miracle herself. But the catch is that that no member of this family is allowed to help the ones they perform miracles on to overcome their darkness, because if they do, their own more dangerous darkness will take form. This book tells the adventures of this family, but more specifically the adventures of Joaquin, Beatriz and Daniel Soria.
I really love how this book narrates the story. Maggie Stiefvater's writing style clicked with me since the time when I read the first chapter of 'The Raven Boys' and it only got better in 'All The Crooked Saints' . I love how every other chapter starts with a character's pov on a subject important to them, and how every character (there are a handful of them) is unique and not just filler. Unlike other books with multiple points of view, you're not left waiting for your favourite character's pov, because all of them are interesting.
I also like how every emotion is described, and how everyone has a different take on it. Per example, love could be the emotion of a lifetime for one person, but a silly concept to another, and this book describes this perfectly. You can see (read lol) the difference between the young teens' adventurous minds and the adults' cautious ones, even without knowing the back story.
The last thing I'm gonna talk about is the perfect balance between the action-packed pages and the small details. This book really knows how to keep you hooked. We have the dialogues between characters, the nights when the teens sneak out to broadcast their radio station, the miracles performed by the Saint... And then you also have descriptions of small details that would seem unnecessary, but they really immerge you in the world of this book. You don't care about the grandma that eats a fresh tomato straight from mother Earth, but it makes you feel at home, as if it's you who's looking out of your bedroom's window and sees your family doing their daily business. One could afford to skip these small paragraphs, but they are so perfectly placed in between the 'action' parts that it never even struck my mind to skip them.
I haven't even finished this book and I already love it. I would recommend it to anyone that likes a good 'chill' book to read, but it does contain a lot of references to Catholicism so if you're sensible to these sort of things, you might not like it.

Eight - that's how many days had passed since Maddie had been taken. With every second that passes, hour that crawls by and day that tortures him with the sense of powerlessness and weakness, he is starting to give up on her. It's something he never thought he would have said in his whole life and he hates himself for it, but he can tell by the looks of dread and sympathy in his friends' and family's eyes that they have started to lose hope too. Maddie was a fighter, they all knew that much, but perhaps she hadn't been able to push through this one, perhaps this was a battle she wasn't meant to win. Athena had spent every waking minute doing everything in her power to bring Maddie home to them, no stone had been left unturned and any little thing that was found had gone through numerous deeper sweeps and searches, yet absolutely nothing had come up. All that they knew was less than a week after Tara had died, Vincent had sold their house, emptied all of his bank accounts and had just...dropped off the grid.
Maddie could very well be dead right now and he feels like a monster for even saying this, but perhaps a part of him wishes that it was true. He loves her, he loves her more than he ever thought it was possible to love anyone else, and perhaps it's that love for her that makes a part of him feel this way because if she isn't alive, then that means she isn't being hurt and tortured at the hands of a man who they had no idea what he was capable of. In between the few domestic reports from Tara and Vincent's old house and the larger amount of hospital and medical records they had managed to sapina as a result of Tara's death, they knew it was bad and if Vincent had nobody else to let that rage out on, if he had no other outlet and he had let it build up and build up - well, he can't imagine what that means for the woman he loves. Maddie had already been through so much in her life, they both had, but her especially. Right from the young age that her older brother had been diagnosed with an illness that had stolen him from their family, up until she was nine years old and forced to take on a burden that was too heavy for anybody to shoulder, yet alone a nine year old girl that had to raise her other brother practically on her own whilst not being able to grieve for the other. The burden of the Buckley family secret had weighed her down for twenty-nine years until just over a year ago, just over a year ago when it had all come crashing down and the truth had been forced to resurface as a result of a baby box and one of the few remaining photos of the older brother she once had. And after the loss of Daniel came the hurricane which they called Doug, the man she had spent sixteen years of her life with - eleven of which through marriage. He didn't know much about all that had happened during that time and he knows that the only people that would ever know the true extent of things that happened in the relationship would be Maddie and the not so dearly departed, but he knows it was bad. Though the Doug chapter of her life was physically over, he too has experienced his fair share of trauma, and something like that doesn't just go away. It will stick with her for the rest of her life and he knows that if she is still out there, if she is fighting to come home, it will never stop haunting her.
His stomach churns as he even thinks of what she might be going through right now.
Now, it had been over three years since all that had happened with Doug and though he knows that they both got 'lucky' then, he doubts that they will be quite as fortunate this time. It sickens him to even remember the day she had been wheeled into his hospital room, her face bruised and body tormented, a haunted look in her teary eyes as she kissed him, one of the best kisses he had ever received. He doesn't want to remember her that way, he doesn't want to be called into a morgue to identify her lifeless body and he knows that closure should be important if she is dead, but he can't decide whether it would be better to live his life never knowing or if closure would truly make it better.
And then there was Jee. Their sweet baby girl who had taught him unconditional love and adoration, and had shown it to him in return. The almost one year old that was far too young to even remember life with Maddie, too young to even remember the amazing woman that her mother happened to be. He'd tell her tales, of course he was, but he knows that fond memories laced with sadness and grief are incomparable to the real thing and he just wishes that they will all get to experience that. Maybe he is just getting ahead of himself, maybe he's trying to imagine the worst possible scenarios in his mind so that he is prepared for whatever the final outcome just so happens to be, but there's a feeling deep within him telling him that he will never truly be prepared for when he finds out. If he finds out.
He also knows that there is a possibility that whatever happens to the woman he loves, he will never find out. He knows just how easy it could be for Maddie to be in any condition right now, she could be absolutely anywhere and in no end of pain, but he would be unsuspecting and unknowing. Vincent was smart - he had to give the other man that - but it's almost as if he can't breathe without Maddie next to him, let alone function. And he hates himself for it, he hates her right now because she had made him promise so much, she had made him promise to look after himself and their sweet baby girl and at the time it had been the easiest promise in the world to make, but now, not so much. He may be a good father, but he isn't the best possible father he can be without her around and he knows that it's inherently selfish of him to even be thinking like this because he is the one that's safe at home and out of harm's way, but the pain he is feeling is unlike anything he has ever felt before. It's a mix of numbness and shock and grief all rolled up into one, a wave of emotions that are too much to handle all at once and he can't be more grateful for his friends and family for trying to support him and reassure him in this time, but he just wants some space. It's as if his body has yet to catch up with his mind and even when he goes to bed at night, though that seems to be the only place he is nowadays, he half expects the duvet to be pulled from his side, he turns over expecting to see her under a bundle of blankets, yet all he is met by is emptiness. It hurts, it all hurts so much and he wants her next to him, he needs her to be by his side and for it to be real, but it isn't.
"Mama?"
The sound of his baby girl asking for the one person they both wanted and needed the most breaks his heart even more than he ever thought possible, despite managing to pull him from the darkest depths of his mind. Mama had been Jee-Yun's first word, a victory which Maddie had been so delighted to take and he wasn't even mad when he saw the look of pure elation on her face. It had been on one of her bad days, one of the days she had been struggling and he had tried to do everything he could to make it better, but it turned out that there was only one person capable of that. The little girl that was further proof of their undying love for the other, the little girl who they had promised to do everything possible to give the best upbringing after they had both experienced not so good ones. And so far, they had been doing the best they could, they had been managing and sure, they made mistakes on the way but it was all worth it. Wasn't it?
