You are Link yes, but Link is NOT you. He is his own character, as much as some of you want to pretend he isn't at all:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is sweet, honest, has insecurities. Has worries. Cares
As fun as "manwhore tarzan gremlin" Link can be in fan content, far too many people treat that as canon just because of popular memes or fanart. When in reality, he's more like. a serious and awkward teen who makes an occasional joke every now and then.
It sometimes feels like people forget he's meant to be a loyal knight and a hero
Just because YOU don't care about anything or Princess Zelda, etc, doesn't mean that Link also doesn't care.

I have a lot of unpopular opinions about the Legend of Zelda franchise, and I wonder just how unpopular these opinions are.
I’ll probably regret posting this, but I’m really curious. Remember, if you disagree with me, it’s just an opinion!

Mipha!
Mipha… where do I start!?
First impression:
I thought she was a very pretty fish-lady, and was instantly blown away by how romantic her memory with Link was (some poeople already know, but before I played the game I looked at fan art and stuff and really liked the concept of ZeLink people were drawing - it must be a canon ship if people are so intense about it right? and I almost always fall for the canon ship in a piece of media. So I got into the game wanting to rescue the princess Link was in love with. Turns out that princess wasn’t Zelda, and from my first impression I was like ‘oh ok, so we’re not avenging zelda then… we’re avenging fish’
Impression now:
She was so wonderful why did she have to die!! Link loved you, your design is so cool, why did you die!! A strong powerful (dagnam play AoC and you’ll see what I mean) warrior princess who loved her people and her family and Link. what a woman she was (and is in aoc).
Favorite moment:
Okay, so I know its a bit basic and there are some awesome moments in AoC (like the date her and link so on) but the first memory, the first time you’re introduced to her, it still gives me chills. Mipha's touch is and always will be my fave. I love it.
Idea for a story:
The tensions between Hyrule and Zora’s domain bubble over, leading to a siege or something, and link betrays Hyrule to join Mipha and bring the war to an end.
Ooh another one: Link tries to run away from the duty assigned to him and is forcibly kept at the castle by Rhoam but the champions help zelda and link and they leave central hyrule to try and figure out the various powers without the added trapped in the castle stuff. Mipha rescues link from a tower like rapunzal effectively.
Unpopular opinion:
Link should have rescued her instead being with Zelda during the calamity. She was strong and could battle effectively, but if Link had gone with her, they would have dominated water blight as a badass couple. If link and mipha had defeated water blight, they could have joined the rest of the champions (due to the sheikhah slate being available for teleportation), weaken Gannon through attacking the blights and then go and kick is butt in the castle. What a good happy ending that is! (I think I just described AoC a little bit…) anyway.
Favorite relationship:
LINK AND MIPHA THEYRE SO CUTE TOGETHER AND SO BADASS AND I LOVE THEM.
They are the perfect couple, and the proposal armour is just so sweet and I adore them both :)
Favourite headcanon:
Oooh. There’s a lot to pick from…
The symbols on the Zora armour represent Link and Mipha’s marriage, and tying the families together:
the Rhombus with the luminous stone is what I head canon Link’s family sigil/ crest to be:
Tumblr media
And obviously the three cresents are Mipha’s family crest
Tumblr media
And here we see them combined, with a white stone in the middle
Tumblr media
White gems are often related to hope (link), healing (mipha), unity, and wholeness. So a unity between the rhombus and the crescents and the ideas of healing and hope? Am I reaching. Yes. Do I also love this head canon? Yes.
2) Link understands Zoran (the Zora language) but can’t speak it very well on account of the fin movement and whistling required. Mipha regularly says ‘I love you’ or other comforting things via subtle tail or fin movements when in company. He has little hand gestures he uses, sign shorthand I guess, to tell her the same.
3) the champions all knew about Mipha and Link's relationship. because their little found family deserves to have a fun time trying to set them up on dates or make them do things together, so that even though things are tense between hyrule and the domain, the two can spend time together.

HOT TAKE TOURNAMENT
TOURNAMENT OVERTIME #195

Twilight Princess is the worst Zelda game
It's boring. It's overly edgy. The plot falls apart in the second half. I could pour molasses at a faster rate than plot info is dispensed. The art style is ugly and shooting for hyperrealism does NOT suit Zelda. The lore is inconsistent with the rest of the series. The map is huge but also empty, making it a slog to travel through. It was too afraid to do its own thing so it just rode Ocarina of Time's coattails.
Propaganda is encouraged!
Also, remember to reblog your favourite polls for exposure!

I want the mile long Prince Sidon Analysis on why you think he's autistic because I'm totally neurotypical and I love him a completely normal amount 👍👍👍
I AUDIBLY SAID YAY WHEN I READ THIS ANON ILY anyways
Prince Sidon is autistic and here's why
The most noticable symptoms I have observed in Sidon as an autistic person are observed in his relationships, body language, routine, and interactions with Link.
Let's start with relationships. Sidon is without a doubt an extrovert, but I have a maybe painful, maybe controversial observation to make here. Other than Link, Sidon doesn't have any observable friends. A common misconception about autistic people is that we are all introverts, but this is not the case. Often we want to make friends, but struggle with social cues to where we are alienated in conversation. In Sidon's case, he struggles with social ques, either implying something he does not mean, or misunderstanding a figure of speech. For, "Implying something he does not mean" a certain hylian serves as evidence for this, Douma.
Remember how Sidon introduced himself to Link? Well, not everyone took kindly to it. Douma can be found hiding before you meet Sidon at Inogo bridge. To paraphrase her, she says Sidon is "A freak (or creep? I can't remember which one)" and that he said he was, "watching her." Yeah, Sidon did say that to Link as well, but as the players we know that he did not have any stalker like implications, however as a lone traveler, it's not insane of Douma to assume that. This exemplifies the fact that Sidon, like many other autistic people, will give off unintentional implications due to wording. Sidon mistakenly came off as a stalker to Douma, and likely did not understand why she hid, as he says the same thing to Link after. I bold that because autistic people often do not understand neurotypical's social rules, we will not know why we have upset something 90% of the time.
Next is body language. I'm sure most already know but i will clarify anyway because I want to: a common trait in autistic people is stimming! This is a method of emotional regulation where we will move a part of our bodies in a repeated motion/action, or repeat words and phrases. Sidon's trademarked pose is very likely a stim! He does it when he is excited, whether it be from encouraging others or good news. This stim gives a lot of enjoyment and is very charming (plus he has done it since he was a child!) So he does this a lot due to positive reactions from others. This is not Sidon's only stim, as he noticeably bounces a lot when he talks. A more subtle stim can be observed in Age of Calamity, where he bounces his head a lot while talking! (My personal favorite, it's fucking adorable.)
Next is routine. This is a more simple observation, and more dismissible due to video game logic, but I thought to include it anyway. Sidon has a routine of: Staring at Mipha's statue by night, staring at Vah Ruta by day. Autistic people are known to have strict routines to follow, and Sidon's routine centers around Mipha. We also may be found getting upset when routine is disrupted, as Sidon does when Link overhears his grieving at night.
Last and most definitely not least, we have his interactions with Link. My personal favorite is at Inogo bridge. When Sidon asks you if you are going to help with Vah Ruta, one of the response options is, "I'll think on it." Sidon's response is, "You'll think on it? ... ... ... ... ... Was that sufficient time to think? Surely, let's go!" Holy FUCK I love this dialogue. Sidon does not catch what the implications of, "I'll think on it" are. Normally one would use this dismissively, (as it kinda serves as a no option...) But luckily Sidon has autism immunity! He couldn't read the social que that was being conveyed, one being dismissive, and instead gives Link maybe 10 seconds to "think on it." As a whole, when Sidon talks to Link his mannerisms are definitely different from the other Zora. He has is own way of wording things, for example, "Have I mentioned how incredible you are? And how thankful I am? Because you are, and I am!" Also... speaking of this line of dialogue, the first part is written in a larger font because our boy here is yelling. Like many other autistic people, Sidon seems to occasionally lack control with the volume of his voice. Other zora are not often found yelling as often as Sidon, and many of his behaviors are specific to him.
Another interaction I like is an alternative cutscene. Instead of meeting Sidon at Inogo bridge, you can pass him, and meet him at the throne room instead. Here you will see Sidon's more... bitchy side, which I love. Though Sidon did have some bitchy intent in this conversation, I doubt it was truly malicious. However, his tone definitely comes off very rude. I am unsure if this was intentional, because he apologizes immediately after. Another instance of Sidon's bluntness (autistic people are also known to be very blunt) is when he tried to recruit the Goron Reagah, who hangs out in the general store. Sidon says to Reagah, "I simply cannot carry you!" Which I really don't think he had any malicious intent behind, however Reagah feels it was rude of Sidon. I think this was an instance of Sidon showing that classic bluntness of autistic people (a bluntness that he apologizes for!!!) And, in his blunt honesty, he came off as offensive towards the Goron.
As a final note, Sidon constant apologizing gives off a subtle internalized ableism, and low self esteem. But these mile long paragraphs are my main reasons for headcanoning him as autistic. I addition, I think he may have ADHD as well, many symptoms of the two are shared, but they are also present together frequently. Here is a venn diagram I found where I highlighted symptoms Sidon shows.
Tumblr media
I wasn't sure about some, so I'll explain why.
Short attention span: This is something I quite frankly don't know how to catch in Sidon. He does tend to switch between subjects sometimes in conversation, but I am not confident enough to be sure if that indicates a short attention span.
Emotional dysregulation: Sidon has a few responses that don't seem traditional, most indicative in the alternative throne room cutscene and his interaction with Reagah. However I again do not have enough evidence to confidently identify it.
Rejection sensitive: I an actually pretty sure Sidon is rejection sensitive, as I feel his self esteem is dependent on how others perceive him. Then again, this may be an interpretation specific to me so it's debatable.
Anxiety from routine change: Sidon does have routines, but we simply don't get enough info to tell if he gets anxiety from change. He was anxious when Link heard his grieving, but that's all we have. Not enough to make a sure conclusion.
Not understanding social rules: This plays into social ques. Sidon didn't seem to understand why someone would think, "I've been watching you" sounds weird, so that indicates he doesn't understand social rules. I leave this up for debate because honestly I think I'm reading into things too much.
The ones that are fully highlighted should have been explained to some degree already. I would have provided screenshots instead of paraphrasing, but that required me to play through the entire beginning again just to get them, or get a YouTube video. My memory is fairly reliable when it comes to Zoras, especially Sidon, so I hope my explanation is enough. Again, thank you so kuch for asking this, I have wanted to yell about Autistic Sidon for so long.

Hey for the character ask thing!! Legend + Four + 2. Favorite canon thing about this character? u can choose whether this means their lu ctb versions, their linked universe versions, or their canon LOZ game versions :)
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Genuinely, my favorite canon fact about Four is that he refuses to touch the Master Sword because he doesn't trust it. That moment is so slept on. It 100% tells you how his brain works, and more people need to take advantage of it.
My favorite fact about Legend is that everyone just treats him like discount Taako Adventure Zone. Is it accurate? No. Do I think it is extremely funny? Yes

Considering the Zonai (gods) as having a negative influence on humans by making their lives easier (thus making them weak), and therefore wanting to undermine their power as a result, remains a petty motive. I'd prefer the good old "I want to conquer the world to satisfy my ego" rather than that old excuse of "the gods make men weak." As if Ganondorf would give a damn about humanity.
I'm saying this to the debate about the english translation of Totk Ganondorf's objective. Supposedly, in the Japanese version, that's what Ganondorf actually wished for. Meh, that's not better than being evil just for the sake of being evil, like the english translation implied.
Or maybe I misunderstood something?

I'll probably start a controversy but I personally think that a Zelda movie made by Studio Ghibli wouldn't look as good as some people expect it would be. It might be because I don't really like Ghibli movies, but in my opinion it wouldn't be a good choice: the Ghibli movies are all generally really slow-paced even in the animation style, where too much detail is put in every single frame taking ages for characters to finish a simple action, and wouldn't give enough justice to a franchise like TLoZ where there's a lot of fast action, especially if the story is from Link's PoV.

Just finished Breath of the Wild as part of my huge Zelda marathon to prep for Tears of the Kingdom, so I guess I might as well rank all of the games that I played for it! Keep in mind that was I bit pressed for time so I had to skip a few entries. For this marathon I did not play: Zelda 2, the Oracles games, Minish Cap, the Four Swords games, Triforce Heroes, or Age of Calamity. As for the games I did play... Here’s how I (personally) think they stack up:
1. Breath of the Wild: Wow, completely not surprising that my favorite game of all time is my favorite Zelda game too! But honestly this game just... hits in all the right places. I love exploring its massive world, finding its little secrets, just basking in the immersive environment of it all. I love its story and how its told to you little by little, how we get such an interesting take on Zelda and her relationship with Link, I love the champions, both old and new, I love the gameplay, the atmosphere, all the little tools and tricks the game gives you to play with, I love almost everything about it! Only thing I’m meh on is the shrines but that seems to be everyone’s opnion. Other than that, its a fantastic game, still at the top of my list and the top of my heart.
2. Skyward Sword: STOP BEING SO MEAN TO SKYWARD SWORD GUYS ITS A FUCKING MASTERPIECE I LOVE IT SO MUCH no but seriously Skyward Sword is sooooo special to me. It just... fills me with so many raw emotions in a way that few other video games can. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, it makes me experience its beautiful, tragically simple story on such a lovely level. I love how it plays, how many items it gives you, how it has the BEST dungeon design in the whole series, I love Skyloft, I love Groose and Ghirahim and Fi and how this game probably has my favorite Link in the entire series (he’s so precious your honor I love him). It’s soundtrack is godly, everything about it is beautiful. If you dislike this game, you dislike fun and joy. I don’t make the rules.
3. Wind Waker: Always in my top three, Wind Waker is such a delight. It also falls into the category of games that hit me in the feels. Its story is so simple yet it hits so right, its art style is simply lovely, exploring the sea is great, the dungeons are great, this version of Link and Zelda (or should I say Tetra) are great, the MUSIC IS SO GREAT (my favorite soundtrack in the series imo). I just love it so much. Only reason is isn’t #2 is bc I got hit so hard in the feels by SS this time around ahahah.
4. Ocarina of Time: I know, very traditional. But the more I think about it, the more I just have to put it in the top five. OoT is just so fundamentally... Zelda, ya know? It established so much of what I love for the series, the lore, the asthetic, the gameplay, all things the series still follows to this day. Its story is honestly one of my favorites in the series, its music is just iconic in every way, its dungeons are (mostly) good, its overworld is really fun to explore, I adore it, always have since I first played it on a shitty emulator when I was 12.
5. Spirit Tracks: Ok So hear me out please. I know this is an insane take but... I fucking love Spirit Tracks??? Like a lot? I love this version of Zelda so much she’s so FUN and I love that she goes on the journey with you. I love riding around on my silly little choo choo train, I like the dungeons well enough and the music? fucking peak. Honestly I just... got so immersed in this one while I was playing it? It just hits the right spot for me, I don’t know what to tell you. It gives me serotonin.
6. Majora’s Mask : So I actually used to really hate Majora’s Mask? Crazy, I know. But playing it again this time... I don’t know. Something happened. It just geled with me in a way it never had before. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a bunch of problems with it. The time limit stresses me out too much, the dungeons are fucking awful, the bosses suck, the music is kinda meh, but then also like??? the sidequests are the best in the series, Clock Town is the best hub in the series, the masks are fun to collect and play around with. The game is fun. I can no longer deny it like I used to before. I like Majora’s Mask.
7. Link’s Awakening: So this has and always will be my favorite top down Zelda. I love how it plays and I love the setting so much. It comes across as such a cute little game but there’s this underlying layer of tragedy that just... hits so well. Its music is great, the dungeons are fun, the sidequests are fun. What can I say? Just a really solid experience all around.
8. A Link to the Past: Fun fact, playing ALTTP for this marathon was the first time I ever beat it! And I really enjoyed my time with it! Its much like OoT in that its a series trend setter but for the 2D games and it does a great job of that! The soundtrack slaps, the dungeons are very well designed, the story is nothing to write home about, but the overworld is very fun to explore. I liked it a lot!
8. A Link Between Worlds: I gotta say I was... somewhat underwhelmed this time around with ALBW. Idk what it was it just... didn’t do it for me? Don’t get me wrong, I still like it, but it really did just feel like a Link to the Past but with a few new mechanics thrown in. And those mechanics are fun and well executed, but... idk. Underwhelmed
9. Hyrule Warriors: I hesitate to say this even counts because its not a “traditional” Zelda game. But when push comes to shove, as much as I like the fanservice and sheer silliness of this game, the gameplay loop is very... samey and boring? Outside of this and AoC I’ve never played another Warriors game so idk if that’s a series standard but still, AoC does the concept a lot better and if I had time to play it before ToTk I would but... eh.
10. Twilight Princess: Ohhhhh boy I can see ya’ll freakin out now. Just cool it for a sec and let me explain. My most recent playthrough of TP was... fucking abysmal. I did not have fun with it. I hated the dungeons, I hated how dry and dull the gameplay loop in general was, I was very bored with the world and the music. Hell, the only things I actually liked in the game were Midna (of course) and surprisingly, Wolf Link? Idk I just thought it was a nice break from the norm. But outside of that, i dunno man, it just frustrated me. By the time I got to the final boss of the game, I was so burnt out and ready to be done with it. Guess my grudge is lasting even still.
10. Phantom Hourglass: Oy. I was dreading this one and I can safely say its just... Ok. Not good, not awful, just... Ok. The Temple of the Ocean King fucking sucks asss, and the world as a whole is generally umemorable but there are other things about the game  I enjoyed like, uh... Linebeck. He was cool. And... that’s about it. :|
11. Legend of Zelda: I don’t enjoy the NES Zeldas. I think they’re too fucking archaic and cryptic for their own good. There I fucking said it. Leave me alone.

I have something to confess. something to state, even.
Majora's Mask is the BEST legend of Zelda game. not only is the OST a banger there's nothing like the cool kids side quest. I am a massive sucker for those kinds of side quests. and the time loop is just. mwah. chefs kiss. each loop feels satisfying in a way because you always have made some sort of progress. every time.
and also, tingle.

top 5 Video Game Design :)
i dont. know what this means 😭 top 5 games with good design? top 5 specific pieces of design? top 5 videos about game design? top 5 game design concepts i enjoy--which is so broad i don't know where to begin???? AOUGH ! STRESS !
uhhh im just gonna. fuck it this turned into zelda opinions hour but i tried to keep it more design/mechanics oriented than story
i think that skyward sword versus breath of the wild is a great example of balancing story freedom and player agency. like, how linearity affects a game. in skyward sword you're very railroaded; your quests are often from point a to b to c, with little to no choice involved. however, the story, while linear, is grand and epic and well-written, and it can be bc players can't blow it up. meanwhile in breath of the wild, the story is very scattered and non-linear bc it has to be in order to account for how the player will engage with it and as a whole. it's not a bad story, but one could certainly argue it's less coherent/less compelling (it IS still compelling in its own way and certainly functional, but one would hardly call botw story driven, while skyward sword very much does have focus on story). however, it has a far greater amount of player freedom and agency, bc that's what the game wants to focus on. these are both good games with different approaches--really, to opposite extremes--and showcase the pros and cons of having such a railroaded but then more well-structured story.
the temple of the ocean king is good you guys are just mean. i'll admit that i wish they'd changed the aesthetic up a bit as you got deeper so it felt less repetitive and there was more visual reminder/notice of your progress (like how i kind of wish the shrines had varied more instead of feeling so homogeneous in botw) but like. other than that. it was actually good?? cowards??? bite me?? yeah you keep revisiting the same temple and you get further in each time. the phantoms go from being fucking terrifying to being something you can actually hit (even if you can't kill) to something you can FLATTEN which is SUCH A COOL FEELING. timers normally make me anxious but with the addition of safe zones and additional sand for the hourglass you can earn it never was too much of a problem for me. as you get better you get further and further and as you keep coming back you take notice of things you saw before but couldn't use and then you CAN use them to skip ahead and go even faster (like an eye on the wall you can shoot with a bow to get a shortcut) and it's almost like mini speedrunning and it's very cool. i also just think phantom hourglass is underrated in general. linebeck alone makes this game worth it and i'll fight everyone about this. also i think the main criticism i've seen of it is like, "it's too easy", and well the medallion says that's dumb
link between worlds is better than link to the past. [i am exploded] no but like. listen. the story with hilda and ravio. the mechanic of turning into a drawing that makes traversal both fun and a puzzle in of itself. the nonlinearity of the dungeons held together by being able to rent out items in any order. i'm not saying this game is the perfect but i am saying it is very good.
THE WEAPONS DURABILITY SYSTEM IN BOTW IS GOOD YOU GUYS ARE JUST COWARDS. I'LL FIGHT EVERYONE. I'M TAKING ASS AND KICKING NAMES
i can't think of a fifth one right now im sorry. mario level 1

watching my boyfriend play ocarina of time, which is one of the first games i ever played and one of the first stories i ever experienced, is a little weird because sometimes he'll be like "i think this part was poorly designed" and in my head i plot out killing him and vaguely plan out a 1500 word essay on why you Must Be Nice to Ocarina of time because its an old game before realizing he's entitled to his opinion and also probably right
