💫Hi, I'm Robin or Kris (whichever u prefer!!)!! Friends and close mutuals can call me Robbie!!
🪐This is primarily a deltarune blog so if you don't like the game or fandom I'm not really the person to follow
☄️Kris blinkies by @turntechgarfield because they invoked unreasonable amounts of gender in me when I saw them I just made them insanely low quality bc I think it's funny

I am a trans nonbinary! I use she/they/one pronouns.
I do consider myself an artist, but I'm only a beginner!! I struggle A LOT with facial expressions, body language and anatomy. Don't expect anything high quality from me lmao.

Ok just a few things before interacting, because they irritate me/make me uncomfortable, which can lead me to getting genuinely upset or stressed.
Please don't dm me unless its very important or I know you, because it will be left unanswered as I really struggle answering them, but I'll get upset that I can't answer it. If it is urgent, please avoid dry texting and PLEASE include tonetags. And it could take me days or weeks to answer. Idm rp request and showing me a cool artpiece/post dms though!!
Please avoid bringing up politics on my blog. Especially American or British politics or any other big politic related things going on in the world, mainly because I want this just to be a casual deltarune blog. I may reblog the odd political thing, but generally its just satire.
Please for the love of god don't like spam my posts without rebloging at least one of them. I will block freely. It pisses me off so fucking much just don't please. Also, if you enjoy my art/posts and spent the time looking at it please reblog it over liking it, likes mean nothing and don't help me grow as an artist. Don't get me wrong, I love drawing and I drew just for fun long before joining social medias, but its just nice knowing people actually care about the art piece I spent hours on. This doesn't just apply to me. Reblog. Art. You. Like. and support the artist. It doesn't take that long, you don't have to add tags. But if you have the time, do leave a nice comment on people's art!! And if it doesn't fit with your blogs aesthetic or fandom or something, just make a general reblog sideblog and reblog art and post you enjoy there.
Just,, don't bring up weird stuff here?? Like as long as your not hurting anyone or yourself its fine, just don't bring it up here. This blog is 13+, so I don't really want to see your SpamtonXNubert smut fanfiction, thanks. I'm sure there's an audience for that but its not here.
FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK DON'T REPOST MY ART WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. REBLOG IT INSTEAD. Using it for icons, banners and other stuff like rp reaction icons is fine though, as long as you give credit and don't heavily edit it. Designs of fandom characters made by me are f2u as well, as long as you don't claim them as your own. This doesn't include oc designs those are mine but I don't tend to post those here.
Follow or unfollow at any time idm.
🪐INTERESTS!!🪐
This isn't all fandom related!! Despite what I said about DMs, I'll probably look at DMs taking about these things;
I ADORE DELTARUNE!! If it isn't obvious lmao. PLEASE TALK TO ME ABOUT IT!! My favorite character is Kris, followed by Berdly and Ralsei. Please send me drawings u did of them and ANY deltarune characters PLEASE and send me links to posts u like especially if we're moots!!
I love to roleplay!! I'll definitely rp as Kris, Berdly and Ralsei, but I'll consider any deltarune character!! Just @ me in a post or DM me if you want to rp with me!! I might make a separate blog for it soon lmao.
I LOVE SCIENCE RELATED THINGS!! I especially love biology. Please gimme cool science facts and @ me on cool science posts!!
Similar to the last one, I love space!! I love learning about stars, planets, blackholes, everything!! I also think its really pretty ough,,
Send me cool bug pictures I love the way bugs look bugs are so cool,, especially moths,, love moths,,
I really like calvin and hobbes comics

Ensemble Stars Event Translation: Various Crossroads “Crowd” Part 4
I promised to get this up today but ofc I (A) Forgot and (B) It was so damn hot today I barely had energy to get on my laptop but it’s 11pm now which means (A) I can still keep my word and (B) It’s not blazing steamy hot!!
Special thanks to @healingbonds on Twitter for helping proofread! We teamed up on this project to get the last chapters out so the next chapters all the way to the end are translated by them! I encourage you to send them a message on Twitter thanking them for their hard work because otherwise this story would’ve been completed in 2020.
Adonis and Souma make their way to the DEADMANZ Live and manage to see Keito singing in his beautiful voice (stan Keito 2019). Of course, this wouldn’t be Enstars without some peak drama so as it turns out Kaoru and Souma meet again. Does Kaoru get shanked? Will Souma manage to get his revenge? Read on to find out!

Adonis: I-I’m sorry. It seems that I’m still not accustomed to the social etiquette of this country.
Souma: No worries. Just adapt yourself at your own pace. If you are fine with it, I would be more than happy to give you advice on such matters, Adonisu-dono.
Adonis: Yes, please. If you wouldn’t mind, I’d be happy if we could continue to be friendly with each other from now on, too.
Souma: But of course. Please take care of me from here on out as well ♪
Adonis: I’m happy. This is my first time making a proper friend in this country.

Souma: Indeed. It seems like I have some kind of connection to this place. I am quite ill-informed so I am unsure, but is there some sort of special event happening today?
Adonis: Yes. The upperclassman who are taking care of me are having a Live here today.
I happened to overhear this while receiving lessons, so it piqued my interest.
If possible, I want to see it and use it as a reference in the future. I must improve myself as a proper idol.
Souma: I am of the same mind, Adonisu-dono. While I feel uneasy due to being unfamiliar with this sort of thing, being able to experience different cultures can serve as a quality stimulus.
Adonis: Fufu. I’m sorry for making you come along with me, Kanzaki.
On top of guiding me here you also gave me your autograph... No matter how much I thank you, it wouldn’t be enough.
Souma: No, no. I am free once school ends anyway, so this will be some well-timed entertainment.

Chiaki: Urgh... I’m sorry, I’ll be sure to tell them. I don’t think they’ll actually listen to me, though.

Chiaki: Do you work at this underground Live House, Hakaze? I don’t really know your personal business, but are you in need of money? You sure have it rough…
Alright, I’ll order a ton of drinks!
Kaoru: Um, I somehow feel as if the conversation’s gone off-point, or that we’re not exactly meeting in the middle…
Morisawa-kun gives off the impression of being a serious and good kid~. Why are you associated with “Ryuuseitai” when they have such a bad reputation?
Chiaki: Regardless of how they are now, they’re a group that positions themselves as allies of justice…
I want to reform it from the inside so that we can be reborn into the ideal group that we publicize ourselves to be.
Unfortunately, it seems that sparking change is rather difficult to do.

Magic and Monsters
A RWBY Witcher AU
Ruby grumbled to herself as her horse galloped down the road at a steady pace. She had expected the trip to the kingdom of Vale to be a rather pleasant one.
It was the height of summer and while rather warm, not the same scorching it had been the year before.
So it wasn’t unreasonable to expect a pleasant trip.
However apparently Vale was experiencing an ungodly amount of off season storms.
She glanced up at the dark grey sky pouring rain down on her head, soaking her clothes and filling her boots.
She was, not for the first time since she’d set out for Vale, wishing she had stayed in Skellige. The jarls had plenty of work for her and were more than hospitable in her room and board, but she couldn’t ignore her sister’s letter asking her to go to Vale for a job that specifically needed a witcher.
She grumbled to herself as Zwei galloped through a large puddle, more like a small pond, splashing her up to the waist and covering her soggy boots with mud. Not that it made much difference, she’d been riding through the great storm for a day already.
There was no point in stopping now, even chilled to the bone as she was in the unusually cold rain. Vale’s castle was no more than and hour’s ride away, she would stop then and only then.
The rain drops stung at her face and hands like tiny needles, making her squint. The thoroughly soaked blood red hood that covered her head and shoulders offered no protection and simply weighed down on her tired body like lead, threatening to suffocate her.
Her legs and behind were sore and stiff after so long in the saddle, no matter how comfortable it was made to be.
“Soon” She mumbled wearily to herself, cold and numb fingers rearranged their grip on the reins, trying to work some blood back into the stiff digits as she spurred on the gray and white gelding.
The storm didn’t strengthen , nor did it weaken in the remaining time it took to reach Vale’s royal residence. The downpour was steady and constant.
The pair of armored sentry’s saw her coming and halted her just beyond the castles dry walls, halberds pointed at the ready. She sighed as a river of rain water dribbled from the end of her nose.
“Identify yourself.” One demanded, holding a lantern up to shine across her face. He jerked as he caught sight of her cat like silver eyes and the pair of curved swords on her back.
“Ruby Rose of Patch, I’m a witcher.” She announced.
“It’s the witcher the sorceress sent for.” The other guard mumbled to his comrade who nodded and hollered at the guards standing in the ramparts to lower the bridge.
“They’re awaiting your arrival inside, Mistress Witcher.” The guard with the lantern said. Ruby nodded, giving Zwei a nudge. He gave a snort and started forward, the wood planks creaked and groaned under his hooves as he trotted across the bridge into the courtyard.
With stiff legs she hauled herself out of the saddle and swung herself to the ground, boots squelching in the thick mud.
“I’ll take your horse to the stables, Miss.” another guard offered.
“Thanks, but I’d rather do it myself.” She insisted, holding tight to Zwei’s reigns as he pointed her in the direction of the stables.
Once under the cover of the stables she set about removing the sodden saddle and her gear. Zwei shook and stamped his hooves approvingly.
“I know, I’m just as soaked as you.” She spoke aloud to him while rubbing his snout. He snorted loudly.
Once he was set up in the stable she ventured back out into the rain, stepping quickly. Wanting nothing more than to get dry and have a hot meal. An older, portly servant with a thick white mustache was waiting for her just inside.
“This way please, Miss.” His robust voice made Ruby wince as it bounced off the high stone walls.
She followed him down a long stone corridor, passing several other bustling servants carrying laundry or trays.
Her eyes strayed up to the flickering candles that lit the hall and illuminated the many grandiose paintings and heraldry banners that dangled from the rafters, a crossed pair of axes in a laurel ring on a field of hunter green; the crest of Vale.
The servant stopped abruptly, she nearly tripped on her own feet in her hurry to stop before running into him.
“This will be your room for the duration of your stay, Miss. His majesty wishes for you to join him for dinner, everything you need has already been delivered, if you need anything don’t hesitate to call.” He informed.
“Thank you.” She nodded and he bowed briefly before turning and disappearing around the corner.
She slipped inside and immediately noticed the claw footed tub full of still steaming water and couldn't undo the straps holding her swords and gear fast enough.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Ruby hummed to herself as she inspected her reflection in the mirror. Being a monster hunter by trade she was not used to wearing dresses and fidgeted constantly with the bodice. It really wasn’t her color either. The ankle length material in the black and green colors of the kingdom.
She’d have to deal. It was always much easier to do what the royals wanted her to do in these situations.
She brushed a hand through her shoulder length hair, not much she could do with it. It was brushed and that would have to do. It was just nice to be warm and dry again for the first time in nearly two days. Hopefully the job would be worth it.
There was a sharp rapping on her door.
“Come in.”
The same servant from before stepped in.
“I’ve come to escort you to the dining hall, Miss.”
“Lead the way.” she waved, following him out the door.
The walk to the dining room was quick and quiet. The mustached servant disappearing again once she was seated. A slew of servants were were setting the last platters on the table and moving out of the way.
The table was laden with more food than Ruby had seen in a long while. Roasted meats and glazed fruits and dishes she didn’t even recognize but made her mouth water all the same.
She sat admiring all the food for a few minutes before the loud clicking of heels made her look up.
Two women had walked into the room.
Both were adorned in long elegant dresses and ethereally beautiful.
King Ozpin’s sorceress advisors.
One was tall and buxom with blonde hair pulled up into a neat bun. Her long flowing white and violet gown ended in ruffles at her feet and fit snugly around her waist. A row of shiny black buttons that held the sleeves closed from shoulder to wrist stood out in stark contrast against the white bodice. Sharp acid green eyes observed the room from behind a tiny pair of spectacles.
Although it was nearly impossible to guess at the age of sorceress’s the second woman just seemed younger than the blonde. She was small and delicate looking but her features were sharp and angular. Her sky blues eyes were only a scant few shades lighter than the sapphire dress that hugged every curve from her shoulder to her calves, not to mention the high off-center ponytail of long white hair that swung lazily with each step.
Her previously salivating mouth was now bone dry as those blue eyes were trained on her.
“Ruby Rose of Patch, I presume?” The blondes heels clicked pointedly as she walked up to the table. The other woman followed without a word,
Ruby quickly rose from the table and gave a haphazard bow.
“I am, lady…” Ruby paused and the seemingly elder of the two filled the empty space.
“Glynda Goodwitch.” She supplied and Ruby snorted internally at the appropriate name for a sorceress.
Quickly getting over her mirth, slitted silver eyes turned to the rooms yet unnamed occupant.
The other woman made a sound that Ruby thought perhaps was a sigh as she gave a perfect and polite curtsey.
“Weiss Schnee” was all she offered. Glynda took up the conversation again.
“We are King Ozpins advisors in all things arcane and magical.”  She said simply.
“Sorceress’s” Ruby said. Glynda gave a nod while Weiss’s face screwed up briefly as if she wished to comment but didn’t.
The two women came forward and sat at the two empty place settings and once they had settled Ruby ungracefully plopped back down onto her own cushioned chair. If Glynda noticed she made no indication but Weiss’s cold stare from across the table was almost palpable and Ruby straightened up, slightly.
“Thank you for coming without delay, Miss. Rose. You came highly recommended by a colleague of ours.” Glynda told here, as she placed an emerald green napkin carefully in her lap. “ Miss Yang Xiao Long.”
“My sister.” Ruby nodded, her attention divided between the two sorceresses sitting in front of her and the steaming hot food on the table. “She wrote me and told me that you were in need of a witcher.”
“We believe so.” Glynda started. Ruby cocked a brow in silent question at the answer.
“Normally, his majesty spends the summer months in the northeast corner of the kingdom, in Beacon castle, however in the late spring some unsettling things began to happen in Beacon. Servants began to disappear without a trace.” She explained, looking at Ruby who nodded for her to go on.
“The last month, we found them, or the remains at least in the lower levels of the castle, piles of bones and half decayed corpses, some that looked as though they had been ripped apart  by fang or claw.” She paused, straightening her glasses before going on. “For some time servants had been whispering of ghastly noises coming from the castle’s lower regions but it’s ancient and thus to be expected. I wish it had been looked into much sooner.” Glynda’s mouth twisted.
“So you think a monster had moved into the bowls of Beacon castle.” Ruby surmised.
“What else could it be?” Weiss finally spoke heatedly. Glynda shot her a look and she pursed her lips but quieted.
“How many people have been killed?” Ruby asked, seemingly offhand as she filled her plate with food from the table. She was hungry and had had talks more gruesome than this one over meals, not that that ever made it any easier.
“Since the end of spring...thirty.” Glynda finally answered. Ruby’s head whipped up at that.
“That many and you’ve just now contacted a witcher?” Ruby blinked in shock. It usually only took two or three people disappearing before she was contacted for jobs.
“Until we found the remains there was no proof that a monster was the cause. There was never any signs of a struggle or blood. Simply empty chambers in the morning.” Weiss spoke up.
Ruby pursed her lips in thought and the sorceress’s could see it in her slitted silver eyes.
“Monsters don't sneak into bedrooms at night and take their prey somewhere else to kill and eat.” Ruby stated flatly.
Glynda pushed her spectacles up her nose, glancing sideways at Weiss before emerald eyes were focused back on her.
“We agree, which is why if you accept the job for the monster of Beacon, Weiss shall accompany you, so we may get to the...root of the problem.” her poison green eyes flashed in what Ruby could only describe as barely restrained fury.
She glanced at the other sorceress, they were handy to have around for sure but Weiss didn’t seem to be the friendliest sorceress she’d ever met.(That would be her sister for certain.)
“Alright…before I agree to anything let’s talk about my pay.” She said before stabbing a piece of juicy roast on her plate and shoving it in her mouth. It took all she had not to moan in delight.
“Of course, we can not expect you to risk your life for nothing.” Glynda nodded. “The king has assured me that if you slay the beast and or beasts that plague Beacon you will be rewarded, however he wishes me to let you know that if you are able to help Weiss apprehend the true threat you will be rewarded with by a sum that only a king could afford.” She said easily as she served herself from a plate laden with summer vegetables.
Ruby chewed thoughtfully as she went over the proposal in her head. The monsters might not have been the main problem here but there were monsters nonetheless and thus it was witchers work, regardless of the human element at work.
She swallowed her current mouthful and nodded.
“I’ll take the job.” She agreed before shoving another bite into her mouth.
“Excellent” A small, pleased smile formed on Glynda’s lips. “It is imperative you get to beacon as quick as you can.”
“I’ll leave at dawn.” Ruby nodded, glancing over another forkful and her future companion.
Weiss’s frown remained firmly in place as she speared morsels on her fork and Ruby sighed internally, usually she was ecstatic for company on the road but this didn’t seem like it would be at all like the times she traveled with Yang.
She happened to catch the other woman’s gaze and pale brows furrowed between her eyes. Not so much a glare per say but an...unfriendly assessing?
She looked away from the enchantress’s cold stare to look at the hot food piled up on her plate and sighed under her breath.
Great, she thought.

Merlin-VNProject: How can you help?
There is a lot to do, and a lot of different areas to cover! Here is a short list - more detailed information follows below the cut.
general organisation
plot & story outlines
writing (in-game texts, dialogue, etc.)
art
background music
coding
beta (for art, writing, and gameplay)
You want to help, now how to contact me?
You can either send me an email to [email protected], or a message on tumblr (to this blog, and not my personal one!!) I prefer email though!
Please make sure to read the detailed information about the area you want to help with first, and include the following information:
Name: tumlr/LJ/etc.: Preferred way of contact: I am 18 or older: (Y/N) I'd like to help with:
You want to help but don't know if you're "good enough" or can't decide on what to help with?
First of all: there is no "not good enough". All help is highly appreciated! <3
But if you're really not sure, just talk to me about it, and I'm sure we can find a solution that works for everyone! :)
You want to help but don't know if you actually have time for it, or if you'll stay interested?
Communication is key!
Frankly, it is a pain in the arse and a real burden if people drop out without any notice. It's a lot of unnecessary waiting, and uncertainty about whether someone will be back..
BUT, I'm grateful for any help - even if it's temporary.
So if you're not sure about this, or know from experience that you're likely to drop out: please, please tell me in advance! And please just send me a quick message if you don't want to continue! You don't have to offer an explanation or anything; all I'm asking for is to know what you're up to! <3
On a side note: if someone doesn't answer emails/messages for a month and longer I will assume they dropped out. They are free to ask to join in again, but there is no guarantee I will agree. I hope that's understandable.
You don't understand something or have further questions?
Please go ahead and send me a message about it! I'm sure I missed a few topics, and I'm happy to add to it! :)
1. general organisation
For the most part, I will be able to do this myself, but it's always better to have a helping hand (or several). So if one or two people want to help with the following tasks, please contact me! (Also: since this is a very... critical area I'll probably only accept help from people I already know, and can trust. I'm a bit paranoid like that, sorry!)
this blog (if it gets really busy)
answering emails
making sure people do what they signed up for (making sure people stay in contact with us/give us updates etc.)
coordinating between different areas
scheduling
and probably a lot of more organisational stuff I can't think of right now :'D
not necessary at the moment
2. plot & story outlines
This is about creating the different plotlines, decisions we give the player, endings, etc.
This will be mostly necessary in the first step, so you can either drop out after a few months, or continue helping in other areas, if you like.
The goal is to create a flow diagramme for all possible plotlines. Help is needed for example on:
overall plot
endings
ideas for decisions and possible consequences
putting everything together to a working/reasonable diagramme
finding plot holes and unreasonable plotlines/decisions (!!)
you need to be able to deal with constructive criticism and that maybe your ideas won't end up in the game; teamwork/writing a story together isn't easy, be nice to each other even if you disagree on something!
there'll be different levels of detail required, starting with a very rough of the plot, and progressively adding more and more detail, but overall there will be no need for you to write actual texts for the game. That’s area 3 :)
3. writing (ingame texts, dialogue, etc.)
In contrast to area 2 you won't need to worry about the actual plot. There will be a set of scenes that need to be written, including dialogues and all. This will feel more like writing fanfic, really, just with the difference that you have a set plot to go by.
There won't be much freedom to include further ideas or details of your own since the scenes are only small parts of a greater plotline, and - additionally - there are multiple possible outcomes. Nonetheless, feel free to suggest additional details, even at this point we can talk about adding side information and background plotlines. :)
Additionally: Working on in-game texts will only start once the plot is set. It will probably take another couple of months until you can start on it.
4. art
We will only be able to use digital art - sorry to all traditional artists out there! Your work is awesome, but sadly not fitting for this cause. But, if you're really keen to help on this, you can offer to beta art, or to make sketches (that will be digitalised later), or help with ideas, etc.
Overall art will be grouped into:
backgrounds
characters
logo(s) and banner(s)
overlays/menus/any additional graphics
You don't have to decide on one group, but in case there will be lots of people helping in this area, I'd like to split work equally. Please name any preferences, and no-dos.
There will be need for a lot of character drawings with different facial expressions. There will be approx. 20 backgrounds to be done. I can't tell what exactly has to be drawn yet; this is only a small estimation/overview.
If anyone is interested, there can also be animations. But I know how much work that is so it's cool if we can't find someone willing to do that. :)
5. background music
If anyone is interested in making us some background music for the game, that would be absolutely amazing! <3 I know that's very unlikely, but please contact me if you're interested!
This goes for composing as well as recording/playing instruments alike!
6. coding
Obviously, everything has to be put together and made playable. Currently I haven't decided on an engine yet. There are a couple of >>>visual novel engines, but maybe we will go for something else, like unity? (I have a bit of experience with unity, but yeah.)
If anyone has experience with making a VN or something similar, I'm happy about suggestions! :)
Overall, I need help with coding the actual game logic (mostly what decision leads to what result etc.) and putting everything together.
Language will (probably) be C# or C++
7. beta (for art, writing and gameplay)
This is most likely self explanatory. Texts need to be proof read, art needs to be checked, the gameplay itself needs to be tested by a few people to make sure everything works out as planned - sounds easy enough but it's one of the most important parts to make this as perfect as possible.
You can either beta only writing, art, or gameplay, or multiple areas - just tell me whatever you want to do.
This will probably not start for another few months. You can either wait, or help on other areas alongside until then.

Why Catherine of Aragon is One of My Favorite Historical Figures
(information curtesy of the internet and my own knowledge)
· Catherine of Aragon was born on December 16, 1485. Until her dying day, (January 7, 1536) she was insistent she was the true Queen of England. It is said that she had pretty much anyone that she was in contact with refer to her as the Queen or she didn’t talk to them, meaning literal queen Catherine made literally everyone who was anyone call her Queen Catherine or she didn’t speak to them. She even said at one point, “In this world I will confess myself to be the king’s true wife, and in the next they will know how unreasonably I am afflicted.” Can I also point out that she had a STRONGER CLAIM TO THE THRONE THAN KING HENRY VII DID?!?!?! This was due to her ancestry as she was related to Blanche of Lancaster and Constance of Castile on her mother’s (Isabella I of Castile) side while King Henry VII was the descendent of John of Gaunt’s marriage third marriage to Katherine Swynford whose children were born out of wedlock. They were only legitimized after the death of Constance and the marriage of John to Katherine. Originally Katherine’s children were barred from the throne however this was ignored in later years thus King Henry VII. Name me a more iconic queen of England, I’ll wait.
· At the age of three she was betrothed to Arthur, Prince of Wales. Despite this, she studied arithmetic, canon and civil law, classical literature, genealogy and heraldry, history, philosophy, religion, and theology. She learned to read and write in both Spanish and Latin and could speak both languages as well as being able to speak French and Greek, however, it has been reported that she had a communication barrier with Arthur because, while they both spoke Latin, they learned entirely different pronunciations of the words. Catherine also was said to have a Spanish accent when she spoke that she was unable to get rid of. (Not that she was trying or anything) However, this did not matter much because her and Arthur were only married about six months prior to his untimely death. On top of her plethora of worldly knowledge, she learned general things that would have made her a good wife such as cooking, dancing, drawing, embroidery, good manners, lace-making, music, needlepoint, sewing, spinning, and weaving. In short, literal Queen Catherine was learned as fuck and her interest in academics only grew as she got older. Please also keep in mind this was the at a time in which it was uncommon for women to even know how to write and she’s was more educated than people TODAY. She provided substantial knowledge for her daughter as well as continuing to broaden her own knowledge. During this time Catherine actually made education among women fashionable due to her influence over the women of the time period and she commonly donated to universities up until her death.
· The purpose of Catherine’s marriage to Arthur was apparently to “validate the House of Tudor in the eyes of European royalty” and “strengthened the Tudor claim to the English throne via Catherine of Aragon’s ancestry.” This is unrelated to the subject, however little was known about the impressions they had on one another, but in a letter to his parents, Arthur stated that he would be “a true and loving husband.” He also said that he was happy to see his bride and he referred to her as lovely. (which she was, but that’s beside the point) A dowry of 200,000 crowns (now the equivalent of 5 million euros) was paid for her hand.
· From a young age, Catherine was extremely religious. As she progressed in age, she became more and more devout to her religion which was Roman Catholic. She was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis. After her divorce to Henry VIII-oh, we’ll get to that- she was quoted as saying “I would rather be a poor beggar’s wife and be sure of heaven, than queen of all the world and stand in doubt thereof by reason of my own consent.” Indicating her devoutness to her religion.
· Queen Catherine served as the FIRST female ambassador in European History. In 1507, she served as the ambassador to Spain, her home country. Henry VII and his councilors expected her to be easily manipulated but Catherine went on to prove them wrong. It can be inferred that her success in her position was due to her studies when she was younger.
· “I choose what I believe, and say nothing. For I am not as simple as I may seem.”-Queen Catherine in a letter to her father.
· As she was waiting for her father to pay her dowry and she waited for Henry, Duke of York, to come of age, she was essentially a prisoner at Durham House in London. She had very little money at the time and reportedly she struggled to cope as she had to support herself and her three servants that she brought to England with her. Most of the time the Spanish ambassador at the time had to buy her necessities.
· Altogether, Catherine was pregnant six times all with Henry VIII’s children as she was adamant until her death that her and Arthur had never consummated their marriage, meaning that the two of them never frickle frackled and she was still a virgin when she married Henry VIII. This is important because VIII used her prior marriage against her when he was attempting to get a divorce/ annul the marriage. He said multiple times that the marriage was never valid due to her status as a nonvirginal woman when they were married, but she was adamant that she came to Henry’s bed a virgin. In August of 1509, Catherine’s first pregnancy was announced though unfortunately, on January 31, 1510 Catherine gave birth prematurely to a stillborn girl. Four months after the loss of her first child, Catherine announced her second pregnancy. She gave birth to a son who she named Henry. He was born on January 1, 1511, however after only fifty-two days of life, he passed away suddenly. By early 1513, Catherine was pregnant with her third child. She was left as regent in England as her husband, Henry VIII went to fight in France and do other king stuff probably. In November, she once again went into labor prematurely and birthed a second son who died shortly after birth. If there are records about how long he lived, I was unable to find them. In June of 1514, Catherine announced her fourth pregnancy. Late in the pregnancy, she gave birth to a stillborn boy. In the summer of 1515, Catherine announced her fifth pregnancy. Due to her four prior failed pregnancies, less pressure fell on Catherine. On February 18, 1516, Catherine gave birth to a (finally) healthy baby girl that she named Mary. Henry VIII, aka huge douchecanoe, was obviously disappointed by the gender of the baby because dude needed an heir, preferably male, however claimed that if it were a girl, a boy would follow. Bitch, you thought. Her last known pregnancy (there could possibly have been more but they weren’t recorded) was in February of 1518 when Catherine announced her final pregnancy. In March, she visited Merton College, Oxford College, and made a pilgrimage to the shrine of Saint Frideswide begging for a healthy son. On November 10, 1518 she gave birth to a weak daughter who more than likely only lived for a few hours but there are conflicting accounts that say she lived longer. Modern medicine has deduced that the most she would have lived would have been a week.
· Can we talk about her substantial knowledge about the military? Of course we can, this is my post. As previously mentioned, Queen Catherine was learned as fluff leading her to knowing more than most MEN that were serving her at the time. When Catherine’s nephew (the fucking Holy Roman Emperor) paid a state visit to England, Catherine begged Henry to enter an alliance with her nephew as opposed to allying himself with France, but noooooooo, Henry VIII knows best right? Well, guess what my friends? Within a two-year time span, England and France were locked in war and my girl Catherine was right again as the Emperor was welcomed to England again. Also, while Henry was in France and Catherine was left as the essential governor of England, she rode north in full armor WHILE heavily pregnant. She gave a speech that was reported to the historian Peter Martyr d’Anghiera in Valladolid “within a fortnight.” She was near Buckingham when news of the victory at Battle of Flodden Field reached her where she sent a letter to Henry and a piece of the bloody coat of King James IV of Scotland that was to be used for a banner at the siege of Tournai. Talk about the mother of all badassery.
· “If not for her sex, she could have defied all the heroes of history.”-Thomas Cromwell. Let it be known that the two absolutely hated one another.

Please forgive my rant, or maybe not....
As artists, the system is designed the fail us....
To all you artists out there, the system seems to be set up so we will fail - or at least - so we won’t prosper without a whole lotta luck.
To me, a non-businessy person, it seems like a ridiculous business model but maybe I’m missing something.
In this little rant though, let me clarify early on I am not talking about the ‘elite arts’ - that art which can be bought in high end commercial galleries or art that is displayed in funded and established galleries - e.g. the NGV here in Melb. These funded galleries that have free, public exhibitions are doing an enormous service and need to continue to do so. However, they are funded. Also, they do tend to supplement their free exhibitions with paid ones. Also, they are actually a different, whole kettle of fish....
Back to rant:
For the general punters out there, here’s how a lot of galleries work:
You go to a gallery, you get to view the art for free, you leave.
You can buy work if you wish but you probably won’t.
—-
This is the model for nearly all community art galleries and local galleries.
In this little rant, I am talking about the everyday and local galleries, and the artist who lives down the street from you and is trying to save up enough money so that they can afford to hire a gallery to show their work and buy frames.
And yes, you read that correctly - we the artist pay to have exhibitions for a lot of spaces. Not all, but a lot. And you don’t really have a chance of getting invited to exhibit somewhere that will pay you without the exhibitions that you’ve paid for yourself.
Generally, gallery spaces incur none of the financial risk whatsoever. The artists do. But galleries do get some of the profits.
We, the artist, pay a fee for the hire of the gallery space. And I do get that there are expenses that have to be paid to run a gallery.
We more than likely have to pay for advertising (It was included only as standard in the hire cost in one gallery in my limited experience, I have done it myself for the other exhibitions rather than pay extra when available - but if you print anything out, that of course still costs).
We generally have to promote our event ourselves. For some strange reason that I don’t understand nearly all the galleries I’ve exhibited in (admittedly all local, small community galleries - but all established galleries nonetheless who have exhibitions continually) don’t have a great media presence. I have a larger social media presence than most of them which is saying something. So I have create Facebook events, made specific social media banners, sent out emails, put up posters, handed out posters etc. for all of my exhibitions - it takes heaps of time with very little pay off - or at least it feels that way.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t do any of this anyway - but when all a gallery does is put up a poster on the door, maybe a single online post, and send out an email to what is actually a very small list of people (which they possibly lead you to believe was somewhat inflated when you initially spoke to them about hiring the space), it doesn’t feel like they’ve bothered to do much at all. I’m continually surprised at the small online footprint of some of these galleries. And I still don’t understand how galleries that exhibit something new every 2 weeks to 1 month don’t have regular relationships with local papers and advertising places. But again, maybe I’m missing something.
Then we the artist pay the gallery if any of our work actually sells in the form of a commission. Sometimes this is up to 40% but seems to more commonly be about 25/30%. This means, for me anyway, that I price my art at what I think is a reasonable amount for time, materials etc. but I generally don’t add in the extra for the commission - I just take the loss myself because I believe that if I was to put it up even less of it would sell.
Sometimes we even have to pay extra for insurance. But more often than not we’ve already paid for our own insurance anyway. Most of the time though, insurance doesn’t cover the actual artworks, either theft or accident (and I have had people in the gallery touch, move and generally get way to close to pieces so accident is a real possibility - often without the gallery letting them know that it is inappropriate). Insurance just covers public liability, and if we can afford it, personal accident.
Then we the artist essentially pay the general public to come to the opening night because we have to provide for the opening night spread (I’ve had to do this this for all bar one exhibition. Sometimes you don’t organise it yourself, instead you pay for someone else to. I’ve taken to taking on this responsibility completely myself, mostly because I don’t really like the ‘standard’ exhibition opening night traditions (but that’s another whole rant) but also so I have some oversight to the amount that is spent).
Also, ever been to an artists talk event? Maybe not, but they are often scheduled or it is highly recommended that you do one by the gallery and they are often free. Why? Why do we expect a guided, in-depth talk by the artist about the creation of their work to be free?
For some galleries, yes I think this should be free, because they can afford it, they are probably able to pay the artist themselves, and frankly it is going to be beneficial for society to make them free (again, I’m talking larger galleries, those with government funding etc. who can bring in a different type of artist, not your local community art gallery).
So, to sum up, we the artist, have to create a body of work, front all of this money, spend all of this time, with absolutely no guarantee that anyone will buy our work.
Or even turn up to look at it.
It is a system designed to fail us. It is a system that is designed to make the arts seem elitist because to become elitist is the only way to survive. It is the only way to make money. That is, if you can even become an ‘elit’ artist - if your style fits what mainstream society wants, and if you can survive long enough to become noticed.
But to be a grass roots, local, relevant, everyday artist dealing with the issues of society doesn’t pay the bills. It barely covers the materials, so forget about getting any money for your time.
And you know what? This doesn’t just mean the system fails the artists, it also fails society. It does this by not valuing the arts, and the experience and opportunities they offer, by not placing a price on the education and the expectation that someone else can teach you something about art and, most importantly, it deprives us as a society from experiencing more art, of participating in more art. Because I firmly believe that if it wasn’t so expensive to be an artists, that if there was more money to support artists, that there would then be more art and more good art - relevant art, art that invites you in, art that challenges you, that surprises you, that is locally relevant, that is relevant to society, that speaks directly to what is happening in life right now.
To make the art free to access like this, with no means of funding the artist, de-values the artist and art we are creating, because it creates an expectation that it should be free. And this means that there will be less artists and certainly less diverse ones - and possibly less creative and engaging and brave ones because we instead spend so much time simply trying to just survive - which means creating ‘mainstream’ art rather than the art that is actually needed (again, another rant for another time).
My proposal to counter this is $5 (or maybe even $10????) entry to local galleries wherever possible.
I get that for some places this is not realistic but seriously, what’s the harm of putting up a donation tin that is for the artist, or maybe split between the gallery and artist at the end of the exhibition? How is that so hard? Why would that be so wrong? Would that really stop people from going? If you want to be really specific - kids in for free, some sort of group discounts, and after your first entry, you can use your ticket to re-enter the exhibition for the length of the current show.
Would that be so bad?
Except for Artists talks - you’d need to pay your $5  again for that because seriously, you expect us, the artist, to make the art and then talk about it coherently? Artists are generally visual creatures and you’re asking us to also be eloquent?!
And for all those naysayers out there who want to come back and say ‘I value the arts’  - sure you do - and I do believe you - but when was the last time you paid for something that wasn’t pop culture music or film? When was the last time you bought an original piece of art from a local artist? Or a print from a local artist? When was the last time you were prepared and bought a set of handmade cards that’ll cover all the cards you need for the year from a local artist rather than the cheap and cheesy from the newsagent shop as you are on the way to a birthday party? When was the last time you bought a beautifully crafted wooden cheese board from somewhere in Olinda as a gift? Or some handmade jewellery from a local market? Or ordered some beautifully and painstakingly handmade clothing from a local maker?
Forget about gifts and presents - When was the last time you bought something locally handmade rather than the cheap version from a large shop? When was the last time you spent time in a gallery just because?
When was the last time you allowed yourself to be inspired by the craftpersonship? Were awed by the beauty? Challenged? Comforted?
Would you have been prepared to spend $5 to get in?
Would a $5 fee have prevented you from going?
Does it seem that unreasonable?
An aside: And don’t say just go and get a grant. Grants are not that easy- they require realms of paperwork in advance, again without any guarantee you’ll get it, they often require a huge amount of planning and preparation, again without any guarantee you’ll be able to put it into action. You also have to be aware of the available grants. And apply. On time. Often you actually need help from other organisations to submit, which could cost money upfront. Sometimes I think it’s only worth it if you are going to do the project anyway, and just hope that the grant comes through to help. Or, it’s a way to fund the big, really big projects.
But as a local artist, just trying to get your next exhibition up and running - it’s often pretty far fetched.
That’s my rant.
Pay the $5.
Support the arts.
