an unstructured Ranni mess of a thoughts dump or "why I love the demi-goddess doll very, very much and I wanna hold her hand(s)"
First of all. She's trying to actually help the creatures in the Lands Between, and isn't looking for the Ring for her own, or her religion's benefit. All she's after for herself is freedom of choice and she needs that so much that she literally kills her old body so that the Fingers lose track of her.
She's so stupidly stubborn to not put her closest people in danger that she repeatedly tries to shoulder everything herself while brushing off any help and acts all bothered and annoyed when she does gets that help.
She understands her step-mother/ dad well enough to know how to break them and lose faith in the Greater Will, causing the Shattering and all that comes with it (basically the whole game).
She loves her people so much and keeps them close as much as possible:
Iji is kept around as a "war counselor" when her "army" consists of three people plus the Tarnished.
She builds her new body in the shape of her old mentor.
She constantly watches over her mom.
Blaidd is the only one that she seems to don't mind having him roam the world and that's because she trusts him so much that him getting hurt probably doesn't even register to her mind.
She's extremely powerful as the murder scene at her Two Fingers shows. (The only reason she needed the Tarnished to help her with her assassin was because said assassin had taken Blaidd form and she couldn't bring herself to kill what looked like him).
~~~
Having said all that... She is also a complete and utter goof and fails repeatedly at hiding her feelings in the most funny ways possible.
"Oh? A dogged fellow, aren't we? Or is it merely thy habit, to talk to dolls?"
She says, then after you help her she gives you her freaking wedding ring, effectively telling you to marry her.
She stacks books to make herself seem taller, she tries to be fully independent then talks to everyone about her plans, she's all grouchy when she is in mini-doll form and also goes full softy.
She bids you farewell:
"And once all is done, we shall see each other, once more."
and also stays in your pocket to keep an eye on you because she always keeps an eye on those she cares about.
She is an idiot and a master planner at the same time.
She's a horse girl.
She's so alive and human while being a freaking doll- aaaaaaAAAAA
~~~
Her driving force is freedom. Her ending is giving the creatures of the Lands Between agency and life beyond what the Greater Will and the Order allowed.
And she's not simply replacing the Greater Will, she banishes it and then she also leaves, giving the simple, non godly creatures agency over their own lives and I love that so much that already mentioned it thrice.
It's the fact that despite being a demi-goddess, and also ascending to full-on Goddess at the end, she doesn't think herself better than the creatures of the world. Or that she knows better than them how to guide their lives.
AND FOR THE FOURTH TIME: Giving everyone the freedom to fuck up, be cursed, die, live, love and enjoy their moments in the world is the best fucking thing a game ending can be. And it is so fitting that it is an ending for a world that most people see as depressing, pointless and cursed.

read a post about there being next to no record abt the historic edward little again (we dont even know what he looked like!!!) and now im thinking a lot about how he died in uniform again.
hes far from the only character to die in uniform (the marines die in uniform! franklin dies in uniform!) and he isn't even the only lieutenant to do so (gore, under his slops, was in uniform; fairholme, too presumably; irving famously wore his coat that hickey steals later; george wore something that used to be his uniform when he got eaten but imo atp he did not wear it as A Uniform anymore that were just the clothes that he had on if that makes sense) but at the end, he is the only one where i still felt that it was an active choice to wear it.
almost everyone else sheds their layers along the way or turns into something else, but ned starts in uniform and he stays in uniform and that's it.
fitzjames famously sheds his vanity and dies in his shirtsleeves, without any of the pomp and pizzazz of his uniform.
jopson, another character who is to me really connected with a certain mindset of holding up appearances, dies in his shirtsleeves, believing himself abandoned by the very person that was his reason to even wear a uniform at all.
goodsir as a doctor/assistant surgeon doesn't really have a uniform in quite the same sense as many others but when he dresses himself before his suicide it is not as an affirmation of his role, or at least not a positive one. he has sworn to do no harm, but he was forced to do it anyway and now he will add a final evil to his toll of sins in the hopes to balance the scales at least somewhat and for that to work, he must wear his outfit as always. he ends up with all pretenses stripped bare anyway.
tozer, a man so proud of his uniform in the beginning, again, dies in his shirtsleeves, no rank left, betrayed by someone who had convinced him to give up everything and yet! reduced to nothing but an ordinary man, he tries again where before he had given up. he cooperates, he coordinates, he even calls crozier captain again, he tries very hard to do the right thing in what looks like a no win scenario from the get go!! and he fails, of course, but he tried.
almost everyone else also ends up either dressed down (bridgens, armitage, dundy, des voeux etc) or somehow transformed (blanky, to some extend silna with her patched and bloody furs) or in hickeys case, both (iconic underwear & greatcoat combo). little never changes. he sometimes has a little scarf, theres the bandage for his headwound for a bit, he sometimes wears the full parade uniform with epaulettes and sometimes just the regular one, there are at least two different uniform hats and ofc you can tell that he loses weight by the way his shape chages under all that wool but he is always. in. uniform.
and maybe this is just my mind making up dots to connect but i think he might even be the last character that crozier ever gives an order to in his official function as a captain (in the tuunbaq seduction/boss fight scene he has been stripped of his rank, at least according to e.c.).
before his final scene, all we get is little arguing over the orders they are given, and how to interpret them. and he is still wearing his uniform!!! wait hold on im not gonna check but maybe he might only wear a jumper in the tent where dundy lauches his soft mutiny actually, so maybe this whole post is crumbling like a domino line but!!! ignoring this. moving on. (even if it is a jumper i remember him wearing sth dark blue aka Uniform Colour so im claiming it doesnt even matter bc spiritually that hypothetical jumper still is a uniform. im not going to let anything like "accuracy" and "real details" fuck up my post smh 🙄. im joking. however! Moving On as i said)
he doesnt even dress up for carnivale! the only other characters that are not in costume are jopson and crozier and they were literally too busy keeping crozier from dying to even begin thinking about joining the communal arts and crafts session! little is atp the acting no2 of the expedition so u might say he was busy but fitzjames has the overall command and still finds time to have a little gender moment in private and the imperialism-approved version of it for the Big Crowd!! (u could ofc argue that fitzy Always has time for a gender moment and who would i be to argue but my point is: i have no doubt that man was fucking busy preparing carnivale & beginning to prepare the walkout and there still was time to Express Some Character!! so how come ned didn't do anything?)
the one other scene we get where we can catch a small glimpse of characters out of their element before it all unravels (pre tuunbaq attack on the camp) is the scene at night when morfin gets shot. it shows lots of characters in various states of undress (silna big blanket burrito i love you) that allows us to see them differently, like their costumes at carnivale did, but in an entirely opposite direction. while carnivale was about putting on masks, this scene is about taking them off. and it drives me insane because i know that little must be there. he is somewhere in the crowd when morfin gets shot but so far i havent been able to make him out and i need to know what he is wearing so bad. it is actually for science (my own curiosity) ! i really need to know. and i cant help but feel that maybe it is intentional that he is just ~somewhere~ instead of In Front of the Fucking Camera because, well. that would be just ned little, wouldnt it? and we dont even know who that is.

normal thing to say about your dear friend who you think is really cute and charming and hard-working and basically the perfect wife material
#hamefura#my next life as a villainess#otome game no hametsu flag#aaand rewatch done! now my honest thoughts#good start. the middle is kinda boring. ep 8 doesn't exist don't worry about it#this anime draws me in in the same way that Futari Wa does#in that it has a fascinating main cast and a very vague skeleton of a worldbuilding that leaves me wanting to overthink it#unstructured thoughts incoming:#Geordo's still a creep and no matter how much the story wants me to like him I just can't#Keith's siscon is very Yikes! and that's so bad because I love his and Katarina's relationship as siblings#Katarina lowkey thinks Sophia is a freak but never kinkshames her and that's so bestiecore of her. they're soulmates your honor#Mary is SUCH A LESBIAN holy shit. I did not remember how much lesbian she is#I'm lowkey annoyed that the show frames her attraction to Katarina as “haha funny isn't she weird?!”#like in the sleepover episode she was describing the things she'd like to do with her beloved and she's being like. normal about it#but the soundtrack does a silly and I'm like. wow this anime does not like her huh#I swear Geordo and Keith are even weirder about Katarina than she is but the anime always gives them slack about it#unless they're having their homoerotic squabbles. which is to say the anime does Not Like The Queer Coding of the story#I'm sure there are worse examples of weeb homophobia but there are a couple moments I saw in the manga but not here!#anyway where was I. Oh right. Ascart Sibs Autusm 👍🏼#Nicol doesn't have much presence in the story due to his quiet nature which is so sad because his inner world is intriguing#he's such a good friend. loyal and caring. I wish we got more of him in this season#and finally: Maria. God. what is there to say about her that I haven't already#the girl came in with a 7 year disadvantage on her rivals and yet Katarina is all over her!#rewatching season 1 is so weird because I could swear she had more presence than she really does because holy shit#Katarina loves her! so much! wtf#maybe I'm remembering season 2?#anyway these are my thoughts on doomflags season 1#2nd watch edition#oh I almost forgot#romance in chiaroscuro

Nightow was so cruel for The Couch. I mean, yeah for the obvious reasons, but also like... a couch is supposed to be a place of comfort. It's an entirely domestic item, where you're likely to spend some of the most time with your loved ones. Not exactly a dramatic set piece (like, say, the floor of a church). And Nightow saw this and said "time to do violence against my readers 🔪🔪🔪." But I'm mad bc like he's right. Wolfwood is such a dramatic character from his backstory to his very character design (Punisher isn't exactly subtle) but he never really asked for that. He deserves a moment of quiet comfort after the absolute ringer he's been through his entire life. Thus, The Couch. The person closest to him sitting beside him. A few simple words exchanged and "welcome home." Wolfwood gets just a taste of that quiet, simple domestic life he craved but never was allowed. LIKE NIGHTOW. WTF MAN. JUST--

Finished Frieren just now (instead of getting any work done). It's actually a pretty good anime. I feel like people are expecting too much from it, but if you don't treat it as something high-brow and revolutionary, it's pretty fun. And, well, if you don't mind how understated it is. It's almost jarring to see anime characters be so outwardly calm. Might even look boring to some. To me, it was alright. I like the tone, it's almost meditative, though there are more tense and even exciting moments. I liked it well enough aesthetically. Can't help but mention that some of the clothing designs were really weird. Kanne, I think, that water mage... Why was she dressed like that? I also remember a bunch of background/minor characters with weird costumes that didn't seem neither practical nor even good-looking. This kind of soured the general impression, but most costumes are fairly good. My main complaint is probably how much characters talk about their personal philosophies. I get it, it's supposed to give you insight into the way they act, but it's usually a bit annoying. Himmel was unbearable for me. He just shows up in flashbacks, says #deep stuff and smiles to look all nonchalant. Though it was a bit interesting to hear the exam takers out, since it gave insight into their casting and fighting styles, at least, and, therefore, into how magic works in this show. But either way, it felt... Excessive? I don't know. The only one I really did find interesting is Ubel, though I can't help but feel that her approach simply cannot be so rare that it surprises and scares people. There's no way nobody's just figured out that being extremely abmitious works out. Whatever. I do like the concept, though. The other things I disliked were kind of minor... I really didn't like how game-y some of the worldbuilding was - adventuring parties or whatever are understandable, more or less, but when dungeons with bosses got introduced and were specifically referred to as "dungeon" and "boss" (literally ダンジョン and ボス in japanese, i was watching it raw), it felt a bit contrived. It's kind of hard to suspend your disbelief for this. Another thing I disliked were Fern and Stark's quarrels. Stereotypical boy-girl vaguely romantic petty fighting stuff. It was certainly made better by how they weren't screaming and jumping around with exaggerated expressions, but makes the two seem so unlikeable! Maybe it was to humanize them or something. Whatever. I'd say, among with the worldbuilding, it's really a matter of taste, even if I really disagree with it. It's not an objective failure, just a choice I dislike. Not gonna mention the naming. Gonna pretend I don't know any german. (Actually, it's just a bit funny)

Anyway, back to watching weird old stuff. I'm currently watching Maze ☆ Bakunetsu Jikuu. That sure as hell isn't calm and contemplative. MAZE IN NULL SPACE!

Headcanons/Thoughts about a Fem!WWX/ Yiling Matriarch AU
If Wei Ying is a woman, then so is Jiang Cheng. I don't make the rules.
That means someone else has to be the heir, so obviously Jiang Yanli is a man in this universe. The dynamic doesn't change much (shige is just as caring and just as good at making soup and parenting his menaces as shijie was, a'Ying is just as chaotic and a free spirit as a'Xian and a'Cheng is still angry and jealous and prickly) but it does a tiny bit, because a male Jiang Yanli has a lot more responsibility on his shoulders and a female Jiang Cheng as a bit less of it, because she isn't the heir (but she's still her mother's daughter, so...only a bit.) Jiang Yanli has eldest daughter syndrome in any universe.
Madam Yu is a tiny bit less hostile than in canon, because yeah, she still thinks that girl is her husband's bastard, but even if she was recognized Wei Ying couldn't be a threat to the position of Madam Yu's son. So she's still pissed, but a tiny bit less.
Jin Zixuan is a woman and has three younger sisters. Why? Because a male heir was needed and her parents had to keep trying. Unfortunatly Jin Guangshan seems incapeable of having legitimate sons. (Meng Yao is still male. And Qin Su is male too, for hilarity's sake. - all of Jin Guangshan's bastards are sons and two of them are older than his eldest legitimate daughter.) That makes Jin Zixun the heir to Lanling Jin.
Nie Mingjue is a woman. She runs the Nie Clan with an iron fist, officially as her brother's regent. A lady of war, brandishing a blade red like the blood it has spilled. (Her brother doesn't want to inherit. He wants to lounge around like a wet blanket and paint dainty things forever! Why couldn't he have been born a younger sister to an older brother, he laments to his friends. Embroidery and accounting and getting married off far away from where he has to do saber practice every day sounds like a dream actually! "Poor a'Sang! You would have been such a good little sister!", Wei Ying coos dramatically. "Suck it up, Huaisang.", Jiang Cheng grumbles, "And don't you dare cry into my robes, that's silk you fucking heathen.")
Lan Xichen is the heir to Gusu Lan. He loves his little sister dearly and would do just about everything to ensure her hapiness. Yes, even argue with the clan elders. Just a tiny bit. His aunt is completely done with his behaviour. (Not that she's any better.)
Acting Sect Leader of the Gusu Lan is Teacher Lan, the Sect Leader's younger sister. Yes, Fem!Lan Qiren. Sue me. It's mostly because the Lan seperate male and female students, and for me that means that there must also be a division between male and female teachers. So to teach Wei Ying and hate her on sight Lan Qiren has to be a woman. Sorry, not sorry.
Lan Zhan is the first daughter and second child of the Lan Clan main family line. Nothing really changes about her other than her adopting a'Yuan causing a much larger scandal (because unmarried woman suddenly has a child is much worse than unmarried man suddenly has a child, duh).
Nie Huaisang befriends the Lotus Pier girls when Wei Ying sneaks into the men's part of the Cloud Recesses one night out of curiosity and runs into him while he's being a tortured artist (read: drawing filthy porn outside by flickering candlelight because his roommates are asleep).
After the destruction of Lotus Pier Jin Guangshan offers the Jiang support - if Jiang Yanli marries into the Jin Clan, effectively making Yunmeng Jiang a part of the Jin sect. The marriage happens, but Jiang Cheng takes over as Leader of Lotus Pier to keep it independent. (Nie Huaisang volunteers to marry into her family and support her because he's turning twenty soon and he really doesn't want to be sect leader. His a'Jie vetoes it.)
Jin Guangshan marries one of his daughters to a male Qin Su, knowing full well that the boy might be his son. The newly named Jin Guangyao is in charge of wedding preparations. He is the one Madam Qin tells to stop the wedding. Obviously he doesn't.
Mo Xuanyu is still a man (very short from malnorishment and with a very feminine face, but still a man) . He apologizes for that fact quite a lot in his notes when he offers his body to the Yiling Matriarch.
The Junior Quartet consists of a Lan boy, a Lan girl who doesn't give a flying fuck about the fact that the rules say she should be on an all girls team, the heir to Lanling Jin and the heir to Baling Ouyang.

Usually not much can be said about the character design in Kinnikuman. But in the case of The Man and The One, the contrast between their designs is top-notch. 10/10.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most obvious contrast is between their attires. The Man was designed to resemble the Ancient Greek god Zeus, and the Greek influence can primarily be seen in the golden laurel wreath that's a part of his helmet and the white toga. The golden helmet, jewelry as well as his cape fittingly give him a regal appearance, as Zeus was regarded to be the king of the gods of Mount Olympus. It overall results in a Western style.
The One on the other hand was specifically designed to have a more threatening aura than even Shogun, and his spiked armor accomplishes just that. His armor resembles those of the samurai and generals of feudal Japan, with his helmet looking nearly identical to the kabuto-type helmet, of which some tended to be adorned with horns. His style comes across as martial and Eastern, accentuated by the war fan he wields.
Partially as a result of their attires, their silhouettes on their own also contrast one another: The Man's form is wider and shorter with rounded edges, The One is a bit slimmer and taller, with his silhouette being edgier due to the spikes and horns sticking out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's also the colors. The Man's palette consists of the saturated primary colors pink, yellow, blue plus white. Meanwhile The One's colors are much paler and desaturated, with only monochromatic shades of red. His bright red eyes are the most saturated part of him, corresponding to The Man's blue ones.
Even their names contrast each other. The God of Harmony giving himself the name "The One" with his descent makes it feel like he's further reinforcing the binary between the two of them when comparing it to The God of Mercy's group-based title "Perfect Zero". The Japanese spelling of their name are only one kana off from each other too, "Za Wan" (ザ・ワン) vs. "Za Man" (ザ・マン).
When you look at the way The One used to look when he was first submitted as Hermoz, it all feels like very deliberate choices. Personally I would've preferred it if they had kept the asymmetrical helmet and horns, but it might have been unbefitting for a choushin design, being perfect beings and all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dynamic these two have is also great. I hope we get to see these old men bicker some more over the course of the story. They're defined by having opposite views on the matter of choujin: It was The Man who suggested the creation of the choujin race to fill the 108th god seat back in heaven and held up his hope in them, descending in order to save and train them himself, when The One gave up on the choujin almost immediately and lead the group of gods who advocated for their erasure.
This is also reflected in how they see themselves, and by extent the rest of the gods who descended: The One regards himself to be a choushin on the same level as the other gods, but The Man only ever calls himself a choujin, seeing himself as an equal to the mortal choujin, despite both him and The One being ex-gods.
Tumblr media
The Gordian Knot metaphor lays out their differing views the best. The Man patiently attempted to untie the knot with his own hands, making more progress than any of the other gods, but The One chose to simply cut the un-untieable knot in half with his fan. It's similar to how he used the Capillaria Rays as a tool to eradicate the majority of choujin, a bold and drastic solution for their constant infighting that shows his contempt for them. Nowadays, The Man's approach to handling the choujin in the form of directly teaching them over a long course of time is starting to be seen as the right decision, with him believing that choujin have resolved the issue and have grown on their own.
This does not mean that The One's unconventional way of problem-solving is wrong, as his reformation plan to redefine what it means to be a choujin and demote the unqualified to human status in order to equilibrize the universal energy imbalance doesn't feel all that unreasonable considering the direness of the situation. Whether it is his idea or The Man's idea of effectively using the circulatory Friendship Power system that will be realized we'll have to see.
Everything about them is coming together so well and I can't wait to see how their plans for fighting back against the God of Time's forces are going to work out.

Opening discussion to the class: The juxtaposition of 'whippies', an entire scene devoted to Calico Jack's very specific brand of procribed masculinity, then direct cut to Frenchie and Wee John working on their room blueprints to "design [their] sanctum. [Their] space. No rules. It can be whatever [they] want it to be."
hmmm. very good.
I like the way you put this, "prescribed masculinity"( I'm assuming that's what you mean anyway, pls correct me if I'm wrong). Because that's what this specific brand of hypermasculinity Jack is performing really is; a set of very strict rules one has to follow to be considered a "real" man. There's a great essay by @mathildia that deals with the oxymoron of performative masculinity (as concerning Steve Rogers, so cw for the MCU lmao) where they say
But performative masculinity has a tension to it that performative femininity does not, because performing itself is seen as innately unmasculine. You cannot learn to be a real man, you are or you are not. You can’t make one or learn to be one. Because our story about masculinity is that it just is. It is an ur state of being. The most natural way for a human to be.
I read this in 2015 and haven't stopped thinking about it since.
You're right, Jack's whip is the epitome of his masculinity (a little unorthodox for a metaphorical dick but it makes sense in context). Jack is seen doing tricks with it. He's performing to look cool. Nothing about his masculinity is easy or natural; he may put on a veneer of "I don't give a shit" but he cares about how he is perceived, he very deliberately influences and manipulates the way people see him.
But the un-performability of masculinity means he cannot acknowledge the effort he puts into all this. he puts the whip in Olu's hand and expects him to hit a cup on the Swede's head, despite Olu saying he's never done this before. It's no coincidence that it is kind, gentle, caring, emotionally aware, community-oriented Olu, specifically, who is put on the spot like this.
Show me you're a real man, Jack says, as if he'd be able to insult Olu's masculinity.
ofmd turns the juxtaposition of performance and masculinity on it's head, because ofmd is aware of something the MCU will never understand: You do not have to fit in the gender box because there is no box. If you're a man, everything you do will automatically be manly; there is no wrong way to be a man.
Wee John especially is a really good example of this, because he's a deconstruction of that character trope, where the big, strong guy is really a sensitive soul, maybe slightly cowardly, with "unmasculine" hobbies or interests. This is also usually the Fat Guy, because fatness is seen as degendering; a fat man is inherently not a "real man" (in media!! I want to empathize that I think this trope is very stupid). And Wee John falls into this, kinda; he's sometimes seen with this little doll, he cries about Pinocchio, he used to make dresses with his mum. But. It's never a Thing. It never stands out all that much, because obviously the whole crew is Like That.
The room is "anything they want it to be", yes. But it's not about having a space to be yourself, because Frenchie and Wee John (and everyone else) constantly are themselves. It's about the luxury of privacy, not about finding a place where you can embrace your authentic self. They are not trapped in a gender prison of their own making.
Jack, for all his posturing and hall his swagger and for all the ferocity with which he swings both his metaphorical and literal dick around, is deeply, desperately unhappy. The crying about being marooned is just to antagonize Stede; but we are all social animals. One of the ways in which men are lied to is by being told that vulnerability, genuine connections, trust and openness are "unmanly"; will be their unmaking. Jack plays a grimdark Lone Ranger of the Caribbean and he thinks it makes him the ultimate man, that it makes him indestructable and heroic. But it just makes him lonely, and it is ultimately his undoing.
Now I would like to turn this over to the rest of the class :)

don't get me wrong- i love rue and see where they're coming from.
but i think that it's a place that almost every baby anarchist starts in, and one they have to grow out of, to put it bluntly. (i'm saying this as an anarcho-socialist myself. i've been in their place)
they are so caught up in their ideals that they don't consider the brass tacks of it all. they don't think about the fact that, in order to get the support of the fence-sitters and people who are empathetic but afraid to make the sacrifice of the only way of living they've known for an unclear future, it takes time, and compromises will have to happen.
especially with the authoritarians who also have a problem with how things are run. (seen in the conflict with hob, and frankly i don't see andhera or binx especially being too happy with the thought of abolishing their courts entirely)

For when you have time! 🌟 = Who is your muse’s favorite family member, why?
[ask game]
Hiya, thank you for asking! ^^ Gonna go with my Hawkes again because they are On The Brain xd
🌟 = Who is your muse’s favorite family member, why?
Liam: .. Bethany. Even before Lothering, he had a bit of a soft spot for her, and always got on with her a bit better than with Carver. They grow closer after Lothering, with them being each others main support to the point where they become borderline codependent. The way they handle guilt and grief is very similar, i think, so they Get It. There was unaddressed friction, and if Bethany had lived it definitely would have built up, but at the time they definitely considered each other their closest friend.
Lilian: For her it's the other way round lol, so, Carver. It's not that she had clear favourites, but if Bethy had survived instead of Carver i don't think they would have gotten as close as easily as her and Liam. With Carver, he still has his inferiority complex, but otherwise they actually mesh quite well. She respects him and gives him agency, and he in turn has less trouble respecting her as a leader figure. She didn't notice just how attached they'd grown though until after he joined the Wardens.

I'm not posting this on Twitter, but I wanna share it, so here. I tried out poetry when I had a splitting headache
I feel like a ghost possessing a body
Pain present but faintly dull
Eyes feeling like their ping is fucked
I feel like an ethereal delusion
Finding solace in the pain truth
Making sure I'm still here
Left wanting, craving, needing agency
While I'm left here waiting
I have the knowledge, not the tools
Chain tying me to a place I feel unwanted
Wishing to claw my way out while I'm defanged
I hope I won't rot before I can bloom
Feel crazy with how people look at me
Like they still expect the previous me to exist
While I stand as a true me, not simulacrum
I just wanna live with wings all crave

ur the only person ive ever seen talk about kpwuvvy in any capacity + ive been thinking about wuvvy talking abt seducing lords of the wings to make them lose their wager so. au where wuvvy seduces hob to distract and keep him away from rue but of course ends up pitying him and seeing herself in him
hello good afternoon i spent my entire commute thinking about this and my morning shift writing a circle around it. first of all holy shit? i love this, i do think wuvvy has an interesting relationship to her body in acofaf and the seduction game is clearly one she'll participate in. it's a very interesting intersection of the regency and fey genres, right, bc the consequences are very different in both.
ive really been chewing on that moment in ep3, with the challenge to a duel, and i do think this is the moment it could happen if it were to happen -- wuvvy's protective instincts are engaged, she's thinking about hob as a political enemy, she's hurt and wants to avenge those hurt feelings, and she believes him indifferent to rue so would not think that she's getting in the way of rue's happiness by engaging with him. the difference between the duel and the glamour is, well, whether she uses her mother tongue (the champion's discourse, the duel) or whether she translates her intentions into the language she has learned from the court of wonder ("she's getting better at her glamours").
haven't cracked how she would approach hob, but i think that he would mistrust the advance no matter what. a fey he's never met taking an interest in him? a fey whose magic reeks of enchantment? he would have to assume it's related to the mission, and i think brennan would engage with it from the plothound angle rather than "the hookable part", the part of him that's empty. at least at first. the thing about rue that caught him in the woods was their vulnerability, their apparent desire for him that they suppressed, a moment of recognition to see someone else trapped in the role they play.
ofc, bc wuvvy and hob think so similarly, all that is what she would see in him. she would pity him. im resisting the urge to plot this out, but i think it would begin to shift after rue's reveal in ep4, a moment where wuvvy is now looking for hob, looking to see how he will react to their true form and whether she will have to hate him after all. instead she would see his respect and his understanding. and for the first time i think she would see what he has really been looking for in rue, why he resisted her courting him, what he wants.
from there, i think she would start trying to genuinely get close to him, and we know that hob can and will fall for those who are good to him. he's capable of believing that anything is possible, if someone shows him affection; judging by his canon relationships, he can't help it. hand on his stupid heart & all that. so he's falling for a glamoured wuvvy, who, like rue, would try to change his perspective on the goblin court. her model for that would be pretty different -- less "you were used [...] take care of yourself, pray, protect yourself," because that's something wuvvy has never told herself, but rather "devotion does not have to mean being wielded for another person's interests. you have a choice in your allegiance, and you can swear yourself to what makes you happy."
my reading of kpvvy is one of mutual admiration and respect, and a bittersweet feeling that you've met someone just like you who somehow has everything you want. from a text i sent my bestie abt the cyrano au!kpvvy: "wuvvy sees a person who has no one to be themselves with and goes 'anyone gonna stand right next to them' and not wait for an answer." "with hob it's [...] like fully girl i don't know if i want you or if i wanna be you. cuz shes presenting him with this model of honor and service that like, works? in a way his doesnt? shes not miserable all the time holy shit?" -- they are SO similar that it's less of the "run away with me" love you get with kprue and the "i would do anything for you" that you get with ruevvy, it's "here are all my strengths and weaknesses in another person, and finally i can see that they all stem from the same part of me, which is also a part of them." not trying to be saved by each other, not trying to save each other, just trying to get as close to the other as they can get.
consequences for the seduction game arise, regency-style, when the goblin court is unable to secure a match for hob bc he has been seen so often in intimate settings with a fey from the court of wonder, and as for the fey angle. the major point of conflict there is the glamour, since hob hates lying and being lied to, and it's more about the betrayal and the fallout of acting on the intensity of emotions.
given canon, i have no reason to believe this wouldn't resolve in a happy ending, bc hob was able to break his engagement and forgive rue for concealing their role as saboteur from him -- except that there's no way, in this au, that rue isn't falling for wuvvy as well. and the thing that hob allows himself to leave the goblin court for is rue's open confession of love and care. would wuvvy offer him that if she finally has rue's attention? i don't know! i would LOVE to know what you were thinking in proposing the au, though, bc i have a feeling this mini-essay wasn't quite it. sorry this is so stupid long btw : ) if u are still here just know that i do love kpvvy i just cant imagine any pairing in this world for long without eventually arriving at the triad.
