Part One
(For my own birthday, I indulged myself by sketching this comic...)
“Lan Jingyi is a direct descendant of the Lan bloodline, but that Lan Sizhui? Has anyone even heard of his parents?”
“He’s just a nameless orphan.”
LSZ: lol jks on you my parents are Hanguang-jun and the Yiling Patriarch
... ... ...
This originally started out with the prompt “clothing” because really I just wanted to draw WWX in Gusu robes...but now it works for “tradition” as well. :)

Day 4 // Scene // Wei Wuxian offering to be bait
I just really admire him for not holding any grudges and genuinely wanting to help people who branded him evil, led to his death and would have killed him again minutes ago if their cores were not disabled.

The Untamed fest 2019
Day 19 - touch: “I don’t touch other people”, Lan Wangji
Tumblr media
Although it is worth noting he started “touching” WWX only after WWX disappeared for 3 months and came back changed. Worth noting that it’s WWX who stopped touching LWJ so freely and so often after those 3 months... As if LWJ was missing it and decided to do it himself?  And then they got separated for 16 years. And if WWX started touching LWJ often again, LWJ did too. As if both of them had missed it... WWX and LWJ, touch-starved? It’s more likely than you think.

Inktober for Writers 2019 Day 30
Caught - Right/Wrong
It’s a fix-it for the departure scene at the Burial Mound, because Lan Zhan needs to stay there. It’s 1.5k, so there’s a read more.
When Wei Wuxian pretends to faint, he is prepared to fall to the ground as well. He knows Lan Zhan has caught him in the past, more than once already, but Wei Wuxian also knows that Lan Zhan is one of the only people who can look through Wei Wuxian with almost no difficulty at all and so he has to know that Wei Wuxian is not actually fainting.
But Lan Zhan does catch him, even moves closer to Wei Wuxian so he doesn’t fall that far, and he’s steady and strong against Wei Wuxian, effortlessly holding him up.
It’s only when Wen Qing gets out the needles that Wei Wuxian stops his pretending and moves away from Lan Zhan.
Not without immediately missing his warmth and presence at this side, but he does it.
He knows it’s wrong to ask Lan Zhan of anything more than he already has.
Wei Wuxian doesn’t even want to imagine the amount of trouble Lan Zhan will be in when he gets back to the Cloud Recesses, simply because he came to visit him.
Wei Wuxian can’t imagine that Lan Qiren will be too pleased about this.
But still, Lan Zhan is here, and Wei Wuxian knows that he can ask for nothing more. Lan Zhan still cares for him, and it’s enough to know that. It has to be.
Wei Wuxian knows their time is limited; Lan Zhan has to leave sooner rather than later, and Wei Wuxian doubts he would even want stay the night.
No matter how much he might wish for that.
Wei Wuxian doesn’t want to see him off; he would prefer if Lan Zhan could just leave while his back is turned so he doesn’t have to see Lan Zhan walk away from him, but of course he can’t do that.
He escorts him down the hill, makes sure Lan Zhan doesn’t get lost or attacked by any of the lingering resentment around here, and he desperately wants to ask Lan Zhan to stay.
But he doesn’t. He can’t. It wouldn’t be fair to Lan Zhan.
They fight, again, on the way down, as much as you can fight with someone like Lan Zhan. Wei Wuxian just hopes that Lan Zhan does believe him that he can control the amulet and Wen Ning. And that he won’t lead an army up this mountain to kill all the Wen Remnants. They are all Wei Wuxian has left, after all.
They are not even halfway down the hill when A-Yuan suddenly catches up to them and immediately attaches himself to Lan Zhan’s leg.
“Big Brother, you don’t stay today to eat with us?” A-Yuan asks, as he rocks back and forth, a tight grasp on Lan Zhan’s leg.
Wei Wuxian can’t help but to look at Lan Zhan instead of A-Yuan, wants to see him interact with the kid some more, and his heart speeds up when he sees the small, indulgent smile Lan Zhan gives A-Yuan.
But he knows it can’t be.
“Young Master Wei. I’m sorry,” Granny says, out of breath from running after A-Yuan. “A-Yuan himself--,” she wants to explain but Wei Wuxian shakes his head.
It’s okay. Lan Zhan isn’t mad, and it’s okay.
It gives Wei Wuxian one last opportunity to imagine it; them, with a little one.
He might need it to get him through the night, tonight.
Granny leaves A-Yuan where he’s still clutching Lan Zhan’s leg and Wei Wuxian can’t help but notice that Lan Zhan still hasn’t dislodged A-Yuan and instead leaves his leg soft and bendable so A-Yuan can move it around.
“A-Yuan, come here,” Wei Wuxian does eventually say, because he can’t delay the inevitable any longer.
Lan Zhan has to leave.
Wei Wuxian picks A-Yuan up and they start walking again.
“A-Yuan,” Wei Wuxian explains. “This brother has food back in his own home. He won’t be staying.”
“But Yuan heard a secret,” the little boy tells him. “They said that there’ll be lots of tasty food today.”
“A-Yuan,” Wei Wuxian scolds him but he can’t help but turn around, turn hopeful eyes on Lan Zhan, who looks down almost immediately.
“I’m leaving,” he says, voice soft like always, and Wei Wuxian nods, because it’s exactly what he expected.
It doesn’t matter that he wants him to stay.
“No,” A-Yuan protests and Wei Wuxian presses a kiss to his temple, to calm him down, but also to give himself a second to compose himself.
A-Yuan can be petulant like this, but Wei Wuxian can’t do the same, as much as he might want to.
“A-Yuan, Lan Zhan can’t stay. He’ll get in trouble with his family if he stays here any longer.” “Not true,” Lan Zhan immediately says and A-Yuan brightens up but Wei Wuxian frowns at him.
“You’re not allowed to lie. Of course Teacher Qiren will be mad at you.”
“Not important,” Lan Zhan amends with a tilt of his head and Wei Wuxian stares at him for a very long moment.
“Lan Zhan, I can’t ask you to stay. I won’t. It’s not right. You have to go back, to your sect and your family.”
“We’re a family, too,” A-Yuan protests and Wei Wuxian’s heart constricts painfully in his chest.
“A-Yuan, don’t be silly. Lan Zhan wouldn’t want to stay here,” he tells A-Yuan because it’s easier than saying it to him than to Lan Zhan. “He has better things to do.”
“Untrue.”
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian whines, because why does he have to make this so difficult.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan retorts and hearing his name like that never fails to send a shiver down his back. “Promised to trust you. Promised to stay by your side,” Lan Zhan says and Wei Wuxian can feel the hope rise in him.
“Still do. Still want that.”
“Lan Zhan, what are you saying?” Wei Wuxian asks, carefully and so damn afraid, because Lan Zhan might still slip through his fingers at any moment.
“Want to stay,” Lan Zhan says with determination, but then he softens. “If you want me to.”
He doesn’t quite meet Wei Wuxian’s eyes, but Wei Wuxian can still tell that he means it.
Lan Zhan wants to stay.
A-Yuan lets out a loud shriek and throws himself into Lan Zhan’s arms, who catches him without hesitation.
Wei Wuxian wants to cry when he sees the smile on Lan Zhan’s face. He can’t let this happen.
“Lan Zhan, it’s not right,” he says again and watches the smile disappear, taking all the light in Wei Wuxian’s world with it.
He guesses it’s the only thing he deserves anyway.
“I’m not right,” Wei Wuxian goes on and twists his lips down when Lan Zhan looks quizzically at him.
“I know you still hold out hope that you can help me, that you can bring me back on the right path,” Wei Wuxian says even though the words almost get stuck in his throat.
But he can’t allow Lan Zhan to throw everything away for something that can, and will, never happen.
“But I can’t. I don’t have a golden core anymore. I can never go back,” Wei Wuxian admits and he sees the slight widening of Lan Zhan’s eyes, sees the surprise and shock on his face but he still wasn’t prepared for the way Lan Zhan swiftly catches his wrist in his hand, A-Yuan balanced on the other arm.
“What’s a golden core?” A-Yuan wants to know, but Lan Zhan doesn’t pay him any attention, focused on finding Wei Wuxian’s core, and Wei Wuxian can do nothing but watch Lan Zhan.
He hadn’t allowed him to touch his wrist before, afraid of Lan Zhan finding out about his core, but it’s the only thing that will drive Lan Zhan away now.
And he needs to leave. Wei Wuxian will not drag him down with him.
He sees the exact moment Lan Zhan finds the huge, gaping hole in Wei Wuxian, because Lan Zhan’s face falls, and then he pulls his wrist back.
“Do you see now? There is no hope for me.”
Lan Zhan is silent for a long, heart-stopping moment and then he shakes his head.
“Doesn’t matter. If Wei Ying wants me to stay, I will.”
Wei Wuxian blinks at him, can feel the tears form in his eyes, but he doesn’t care.
Not if Lan Zhan really means this.
“What?” he asks, breathless with hope and Lan Zhan carefully steps closer, sneaks a hand around Wei Wuxian’s hip and pulls him into his side.
“I want to stay with you. And A-Yuan, here in your home. If you want me to,” he whispers and Wei Wuxian laughs, because there is nothing else he wants more than that.
“Lan Zhan, please stay,” he begs and presses his face into Lan Zhan’s throat. “Please stay with me.”
“Mn,” Lan Zhan agrees and A-Yuan shrieks and laughs and is as happy as Wei Wuxian feels.
“Big brother, we have the best food!” A-Yuan excitedly tells Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian chuckles at that.
“You will hate it,” he tells Lan Zhan, who seems too pleased by that prospect.
“Won’t hate it,” he gives back and presses a kiss to Wei Wuxian’s temple. “You worked hard for it.”
“I did,” Wei Wuxian says and he can feel the tears again, threatening to overwhelm him, but he thinks that it might be okay now.
Lan Zhan will stay and he’ll be there. Nothing can be hard with him by Wei Wuxian’s side.

Expressing my feelings tonight via limited doodling capability, as per usual.
I was thinking about how little A-Yuan was really a life-saving glimmer of light in both WWX and LWJ’s darkest times.
P.S. Consider this my offering for the prompt “clan” -> “family”
