once again yearning for the alternate history where victoria never triggers and becomes a highly promising college basketball star who has an unfortunate blowout. UNTOLD: Supergirl Apocalypse--watch how this 'superhero' of a college prospect [cuts of angry costumed carol and mark, bashful vicky, stock footage of college nightlife] blew it all on coke, clubs, and overall 'bad behavior.' Maybe I should stop
Having these false hopes
Having these delusions
Stealing glances
Stealing just a little bit of the time
Just to see you in the corridor
Because in the end, your heart is already with someone
For I am just a foolish one

Laying a World to Rest
Tumblr media
Continuing on with some of the art I rarely made during the time I was a ghost, "Laying a World to Rest" was made under a sudden rush of inspiration. I wanted to try my hand at making some kind of magical circle again, and it ended up becoming a scene of its own, who would have guessed !

Untold
As Light told of all they had been through, only pausing for a moment to eat their pie or to drink their tea, Melon sat beside them wrapped in a blanket, her eyes wide open in absolute astonishment.
The lights still did not work, so, unable to do much, Doc, Selene and Squeaky Clean joined the two in the lounge, listening in endearment to the tales Light told, while they stayed genuinely humble.
Although, occasionally, they stopped themselves, rubbed their head, and said that some things were best left unsaid. When Melon asked, Light explained they would rather not think about these events.
At that moment, a bolt of lightning struck just outside, and the accompanying thunder that followed made the whole Inn shake. Melon was startled, jumped up, and, as if by reflex, dove towards Light.
However, she noticed they gritted their teeth and breathed heavily as she embraced the large Kirin, so she quickly let go, and asked Light if they were alright. Light only smiled, and said they were.
She would not be dissuaded so easily, so Melon insisted Light tell her if they were hurt. Light's smile turned bittersweet, as they briefly told the others they did not want to think of their pain.
Before anyone could speak, Light gave the others beautifully cut gems from their satchel, matching their eye colours. Emerald for Melon, Amethyst for Selene, Ruby for Squeaky and Sapphire for Doc.
While everypony was stunned into silence at their generosity and the beauty of the gems, Light got up, placed another log on the fire, and asked Melon if she still had a room where they could rest.
Shaking off her awe, Melon got up and lead Light to a free room. Swiftly after, Light wished Melon a good night, but Melon stopped them, and asked, with genuine care in her voice, if they were okay.
To this, Light spoke not, though as tears formed in their eyes, they looked away and moved the mane on their chest aside showing many scars, only recently healed. They lowered their mane and replied:
"I wish you hadn't found out like this… Or at all…"

I'm watching Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist. The documentary about the Manti Te'o situation. I feel for Manti. He went to Notre Dame and felt isolated bc he was so far from his tight knit community in Hawaii and his culture. He was vulnerable. So he was susceptible to being taken advantage of by someone that was offering him friendship and something familiar.
Ronaiah was pretty despicable to me. I am glad they talked about their journey and how Polynesian culture is more accepting towards being transgender. However, the fact that they had other people cosign to convince Manti, Lennay was real even using their own sister to give him a bear and say it is from Lennay. They even got Diana (the woman in the picture used as Lennay) to send Manti a picture. It was just such inexcusable behavior. Pretending to die, talking to Manti's parents as Lennay's grieving brother for hours. It just went so far.
It was good to see that Manti seemed to be doing well and didn't harbor bad feelings in the end.

#Hottakes #6: The Hoax Fueled In Homophobia: Manti Te’o
Tumblr media
As an upcoming pop culture commentator, I must stick to today's trends and do my research on past and present moments in pop culture that needs to be discussed, so we can come up with new productive conversations and analyze and critique the moment. Anything pop culture based I always run to the Netflix app and head to the documentary section and I found an interesting story to retell…
Tumblr media
Netflix recently debuted a new documentary Untold: The Girlfriend That Didn’t Exist. Many of you are probably wondering, who is this about, and why is this story being told? Manti Te’o is a professional football player, he rose to fame for his college football career, where he was a star player and a shoo-in to make it into the NFL. In his senior year, he was at the peak of his college career, was a projected 1st round draft pick, and met the love of his life Lennay Kekua… or so he thought.
Tumblr media
During his senior year, he informed media outlets that his grandmother and girlfriend had passed away. With the media knowing this information they started to do some digging on what we thought was a tragedy, the sports blog Deadspin released an article that alleged that Lennay didn’t exist but ‘Lennay’ was instead Ronaiah Tuiasosopo (later transitioned to Naya Tuiasosopo) who catfished Manti. Notre Dame released a statement regarding the hoax and stated that Manti was the victim and that the relationship was exclusively an online relationship. This conflicted with what was said by Manti himself when he said he met her after his football game. It was later suspected that he was involved in orchestrating his hoax due to the ‘inconsistencies’ of his stories, but he maintained his innocence while doing interviews on his side of the story. He explains that he lied about meeting her in person because he was afraid to be seen as crazy by his family and peers. After various interviews, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo admits he was behind the hoax the entire time.
Tumblr media
“Are you gay?” Was the question that most interviewers had for Manti for the following months, but that wasn’t the end of it, he was the joke of athletes at the time. Anything he said in defense of himself was seen as him being ‘too defensive’ or ‘confirming’ that he is gay. Manti stated multiple times that he is a straight male, and he has no attraction toward males, but that wasn’t enough to put that theory to rest, it only led to countless jokes and allegations made up out of thin air.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That makes me think, why were they pushing this narrative in the first place? We’re all aware of the not-so-subtle but subtle homophobia that lives within the sports world, being gay let alone having a rumor out there is possible career suicide. The aftermath of Manti Te’o career showed that Manti went from being a first-round draft prospect to being chosen in the second round under the excuse that there is too much ‘drama’ surrounding him. His being catfished online was already a joke on its own but the fact that there was a man at the time behind the account that Manti fell in love with, from then on, journalists and media turned it into any story possible without care. Manti went from being the victim, to villain, to a joke and there wasn’t much thought of his mental health during this time, having his promising career derailed by a catfish and no one is willing to believe his side of the story but would rather make a joke of the situation instead. In current day 2022, Manti Te’o has gotten married, had a kid, played in the NFL up to 2021, and forgiven Naya for the incident. His overall grace and resilience for the incident and the people involved are commendable, especially with seeing how you can be the golden child one day and be disregarded the next.
Tumblr media
Revisiting is important, especially in these times when we could look back and correct our wrongs and forgive ourselves for past mistakes we’ve made. Since then, I’ve seen many athletes and old teammates show their support for Manti, and I’ve even seen some journalists that were initially against him showing support. Manti’s story isn’t just a story on catfishing, but a story of forgiveness as well. We are in a new digital era where our mistakes are highly publicized for the world to see and criticize, though the world can be harsh and not understand us initially it’s up to us to know what we want to learn from our actions. Revisiting our past actions may open our eyes to realizing we were wrong, or we’ve been wronged, or we need to apologize. We as a people have to learn to be kind to each other and know that there is more to a story than what we think.

Just watched Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist
Ronaiah does not look or act sorry, actually going out of her way to pretend like she’s the victim of all of this. I’m not saying that she deserved to be treated the way Manti was treated, but she definitely deserves more than what she received. Like sure I’m glad she realized she wanted to be a girl, but literally at the cost of Manti’s mental health, career, and reputation. Like it actually pisses me off.
