New year, still work to do. My second semester hasn’t started yet, but I started after the break by writing 8000 words in 10 days because I procrastinated over Christmas... Those reports are handed in now, and I got results back for another assignment I finished before the holiday - 72%, which is in the highest scores of my course, so I’m very happy! This afternoon is spent in the library, reading some preparatory texts for my dissertation, which will hopefully build/expand on my undergrad diss, but with more focus on the heritage/modern implications. Specifically, I am interested in the misappropriation of runes, runestones, and other Viking myths by white supremacists and neo-n*zis.

Hello November!

I have reading week this week (which means that I’m halfway through semester 1, I cannot believe how fast time is going) so I’m focusing on, you guessed it, reading. Specifically prep for my upcoming essay due in December, so I’m taking notes as I go along as well.

Other than that, I went to my doctor for an asthma review, and I also got the flu jab! Not feeling great because of it, but I just have to power through.

It’s Thursday, so I’m back in the library! This time reading about post-colonial heritage and tourism, and also trying to find some reading for a short formative essay coming up. I can really feel that the semester has started now, because I have been really tired. Hopefully I’ll settle into this new routine quite soon, and it’ll be better then.

I have survived the first week of (online) lectures and (in-person) seminars at Birmingham! It feels really odd to be in a completely new city, but I do really like Birmingham so far. This afternoon is spent in the library, with a mask and all the other safety measures, and while I think Glasgow has a bigger library, I do like this one too. I live with 5 other people, and 4 of those are also postgrads at UoB, so it has been really nice to far! I have also managed to speak a little with my coursemates in MA International Heritage Management and at the IIICH, so I’m settling in quite allright.
