21. “What if I kissed you right now?”

Growing up in Ann Arbor, I bleed maize and blue. It was no question that I was going to U of M. I worked my butt off to make it here and I’m glad I did.

I never thought I would befriend Nick Blankenburg but I guess it just happened. He’s hard not to like. He’s cute, funny, smart, and incredibly sweet. We were in a few classes together sophomore year then everything just went from there. The only downside is that I like him, as more then friends but he has plenty of options that aren’t me.

I had a little bit of a reputation as a prude or a tease. I never meant to be I just always wanted my firsts to be special. And among some people it is common knowledge that I am a 20 year old girl who had never been kissed. Nick in our entire friendship had never brought it up once.

Until today as we are sitting on his couch watching crappy reality TV. Whenever the couples have a big makeout session I squirm in my seat a little. I don’t mean to it just gets a little uncomfortable.

Nick notices and pauses the TV. “So it’s true that you’ve never kissed anyone then?”

“Why do you ask?” I say trying desperately to contain my blush.

He smirks, “You’ve gotten uncomfortable anytime anyone has kissed for the past 30 minutes.” He gestures toward the TV and I can’t help but chuckle.

“Yeah its true.” I don’t elaborate, quite frankly I don’t want to have this conversation at all.

He looks back toward the paused screen pondering my answer. “What if I kissed you right now?”

Now I definitely can’t contain my blush. “I might be a bad kisser.” I keep my eyes fixed on my hands. He’s probably just curious like everyone else, and I probably look like an idiot.

“I don’t think that’s likely.” His voice has a touch of gravel as he grabs my face. He’s soft yet assertive and I’m undone by him.

His lips touch mine. He starts with a few sweet pecks, warming me up to him. It’s perfect. Then he grabs my chin a little harder and deepens the kiss. No tongue for now which I’m grateful for but its still so consuming. I want to jump him but I’m not completely sure how.

After a moment I pull away, slightly out of breath. His brown eyes are molten and he refuses to let go of my face. “Why did you do that?” I whisper.

“Because you let me.” He pauses, “Because I like you.” He presses another peck to my lips.

I nod, “Okay.” I’m unsure what to say. We both know I just gave him something really important to me. And I know that I’m willing to give him so many more of my firsts.

He doesn’t press me into talking about it. He simply pulls me into him and turns the show back on. He plants kisses on my forehead as we watch. Nothing has felt better

Friendships Last (Some Turn Into Something More)~ Luke Hughes

Aurora pulled her blanket tighter around her body and looked up at the clock above the TV. It read 7:30. Luke should be home any minute now.

Aurora had moved in with her best friend since the age of five when she turned seventeen. Luke had just bought his first apartment and, with Aurora's family in finical trouble, the decision was made for them to move in together.

She fiddled with the small comfort ball in her hand and turned her eyes--one brown, one green--towards the door. Watching for Luke wouldn't make him arrive any faster but she really couldn't help herself. It was habit for her.

She remembered how shy and awkward they were the first couple times they were around each other. Luke had just turned 9 and Aurora had just turned 8. Kids being kids, Luke at first didn't want anything to do with her, but that didn't last long, and soon no one could tear them away from each other.

A key in the door made Aurora jump but soon a huge grin etched over her face and she threw the blanket off her.

"Luke!!!"

She bolted at him and threw herself in his arms, giggling when he caught her. She let out a happy laugh as he spun her around in a few circles and then gently dropped her on her feet.

"Hiya, petal. What time did you get home?"

Aurora giggled as Luke pressed a kiss to her forehead and took his jacket from him.

"A little after 6, Lukey."

Luke's lips twitched at the nickname his best friend still used for him all these years later and stretched his arms above his head.

"Did you eat when you got home, petal?"

Sometimes Aurora got too distracted by other things to eat, so part of the job Luke assigned to himself was asking Auroua this simple question whenever he came home.

"Yes. I made myself a turkey sandwich," Aurora replied, throwing her comfort ball from hand to hand.

Luke's shoulders relaxed and he patted her on the head as he walked past her.

"How about you pick out a movie for us to watch, petal, while I go change?"

Aurora let out another giggle as she bounced over to the movie collection by the TV.

Horror movies were most definatly out of the question so Auroua hummed and placed her fingers on the DVD case of the original Top Gun movie. Luke often teased her that the reason she loved watching it was because of Tom Cruise, but Aurora instisted she watched it because it was one of her dad's favorite movies.

"Top Gun, Aurora? Why am I not surprised?"

Aurora stuck her tongue out at Luke and set the movie up before grabbing the romote and climbing into Luke's lap.

"This seat is taken."

Luke rolled his eyes but allowed Aurora to get comfortable against him and smiled when she pushed her head under his chin.

It was about an hour later that Luke noticed Aurora wasn't making her usual commentary about the movie. It's not that Aurora was a huge talker during movies, but with certian movies that she'd seen a billion times, she loved commenting on details no one else noticed. She was fansinating that way.

He looked down and noticed she was asleep against his chest. This had happened a million times before, but something about her hand clutching his shirt made Luke's heart thumb hard against his ribcage.

He noticed Aurora had a few more freckles right above her nose. The sound of her soft breathing made Luke swallow a lump in his throat.

If he didn't know any better, he'd say he was starting to fall in love with her.

HELLO I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS!!!!!

• Wash grew up either in Midtown or East Detroit, and by East Detroit I mean like. On the border of Grosse Pointe.

• This doesn’t mean Wash is scared of West Detroit, not by a long shot.

• Big Red Wings fan. Will defend hockey as the best sport until the day he dies

• His family would go to the Holiday Nights every year in Greenfield Village.

• Wash is a big fan of all the museums in the greater Detroit area. He’s always at the Henry Ford Museum when they have a new exhibit. DIA? He could spend hours there even if he did the same exact thing last week. He’s been on the River Rouge Ford Factory tour a million times. And he’ll go again.

• I’m not sure what career path he would’ve took had he just lived his life out on Earth, but I feel like he would have wanted to go to UofM. His younger sister goes instead, and Wash helps fund it.

• Would actually kill someone to have Detroit style pizza just one last time. Specifically Buddy’s Pizza.

• HopCat in Midtown is his favorite bar— he’s a sucker for their fries.

• His favorite place in the city is Belle Isle. He loves to ride his bike there.

• Claims that there’s no better Mexican bakery than La Gloria’s.

• Used to go to Canada to drink when he was 19.

That’s all I got at this very moment but man I am really thinking so much about Detroiter Wash all the time

I know we saw what happened to some of the Ducks on Game Changers but what do you headcanon the Ducks doing post-Eden Hall?

So I i'm going to assume this is also post college. Strap in this is a long one. Here we go!

Julie: I love the headcanon that Julie like her actress became a chef. However, I could also see Julie entering the olympics right after high school. She wins a gold medal but chooses culinary school over rejoining. She either lives in Ontario, Canada or New York City. She is single for a couple years but soon begins to date. Eventually meeting her girlfriend and moving into together. They live above the bakery.

Averman: Averman is interesting cause I can see him driving the limo like we see and being happy with it. However, I can also see him taking on the comedy clubs. I could see him hitting it big before becoming an actor. He mostly acts in comedies and as the loveable side character. Most people would despise the typecasting but he loves it and it allow his natural wit to shine through. He doesn't really date due to his ever changing schedule but he is happy nonetheless.

Goldberg: Even though his parents wanted him to take over the delicatessa he wanted to go to college first. For some reason I could see him studying to be a dentist. He also is the first after Connie and Guy to get married. He and his wife live in Philadelphia. He wants to have kids eventually but he's in no hurry. He often will house Russ or Averman when they come into town. He has a big house 20 minutes away from his dental office. Being a former hockey player actually provides good advertisement.

Connie and Guy: I 100% believe they go on to get married. Honestly I also am totally behind what game changers did. Connie is a boss lady and she totally would do something like senator. I could also see her working her way up to governor. She takes special interest in poorer neighborhoods and providing resources. I can also agree that Guy is 100% the stay at home dad. However, I could also see him being an internet celebrity. He shares recipes and child tips. He also never misses #WCW and just loves to post his love for his wife and kids.

Russ: I know Russ would become a comedian. He wouldn't take the actor route like Averman. He would become a stand up comic. He would become one of the huge comics that has like 4 netflix specials. His punchy sense of humor is good for all ages. He has two houses. One in Minnesota and one LA. He also bought house for his dad and brother close to his house in LA.

Charlie: Charlie is a Minnesota man through and through. After he graduated he would probably go to school for sports management. He wants to become a coach so he can stay close to the game he loves. He knew that he would have a longer job that way. He gets a job right out of collage coaching the UofM hockey team. He combines the fun of Coach Bombay and the life lessons of Coach Orion to become a forced to be reckoned with. Soon the Minnesota Wild is in need of a new coach and Charlie is the first pick. He happily takes the job. The opportunity allows him to move his mom into a nice house in the Macalester Groveland area of St. Paul. He finds a place nearby and settles into the new job.

Adam: Adam is recruited straight out of high school to play for the Flyers. He is sad to leave his friends and family but it's huge opportunity that he can't pass up. He plays professional for about 5 years before a wrist injury ends his career. He contemplates staying in Phili but he misses home. So he heads back to Minnesota. Charlie is more than happy to let Adam crash with him. Adam takes a month to recover before he thinks about what he wants to do next. Charlie, Connie, Guy, Jesse and him sit down and talk it out. With some encouragement from his friends Adam decides to pursue law. He graduates top of his class and is offered partnership at Ducksworth. However, Adam declines and decides to become a public defender. Charlie and him are still living together and they are ok with that. *removes shipper glasses* I'll leave it there.

Kenny: Kenny finds he really likes Minnesota. So with the blessing of his family he decided to stay there full time. He gets a job teaching figure skating to kids and teens. He also takes the time to keep up with his training. He finds a small house close by the skating rink and settles in. He is fortunate enough to be asked to coach a few olympic gold medal winners. He has been asked to become a full time olympic trainer but Kenny likes his job.

Luis: Luis moved back to Miami and went to school. He studied mechanical engineering and took a job in his grandpa's garage. He took over the shop after his grandpa retires. He makes it known for good work and fair prices. He does date a little before settling down. Him and his partner find a house close to his mom's. He does return every 3 years for the Duck's big reunion.

Dwayne: Similar to Charlie, Dwayne is Texas through and through. After high school he relocates to Austin. He goes to school to become a teacher. He specializes in teaching Special Education. In high school Dwayne got tested and was diagnosed with a learning disability or adhd. So, he is a perfect fit for kids who need a little more support. He bought a big ranch house and for the time being he is just enjoying being home.

Jesse: Growing up in a more disenfranchised area made Jesse really want to help those who a lot of people overlook. With Connie's help he opens up a series of free programs for kids and teens. He works closely with the teen group. He wants to help the kids achieve whatever they can. His programs are a big success and he is given even more funding. He is awarded for his work but Jesse doesn't accept any awards. He doesn't need to have a medal to tell him what he's doing is worth it. He does eventually meet and marry the mother of one of his teens. He loves being a stepdad so much.

Dean and Fulton: I can see them doing construction like they do in game changers. However, I can also see them opening a gym. They train all ages in boxing and other forms of self defense. Fulton went to school for business management so he runs the back while Dean takes care of classes and hiring. They thankfully work very well together now that they're adults. Dean does meet a girl through the gym. She manages to take him down during a class and he instantly fell in love. Fulton loves her and thinks they're perfect together. For the time being Fulton is single but he's ok with that.

The Ducks meet up for big celebrations like wedding and baby showers. They also make sure to have a reunion every three years no matter what.

Day 3

Thursday 9/5/2019

I decided to sleep in this morning so I was too late to take a campus connector to get to Saint Paul so I consumed the use of my semesterly UofM parking ramp spot and drove to the St Paul campus. I grabbed a monster energy drink from the student center for $3, I still don’t like them but working 8-3:30am most nights has me pretty addicted to caffeine and I didn't want to deal with the headache during lecture. After Design and Discontents, I consumed gasoline and my car insurance while driving downtown to meet my Dad at his office to grab a camera I needed from him. 

Once I got back to Dinky from downtown I had a few hours to kill so I consumed some Hulu for which I pay for a $6 monthly subscription, and some pretty shitty Minnesota grown weed I had purchased from a friend of my brother about a month ago for very cheap. I couple hours later I met with a man locally whom I had connected with through facebook to purchase a hockey jersey. I have a sports memorabilia business on the side where I flip hockey jerseys to collectors. I purchased an authentic Brent Burns Minnesota wild Reebok hockey jersey for $150, this particularly rare jersey style with this player is probably worth a little north of $250 but I might just keep it. 

When I got back from the jersey purchase I went to work at the bar, There I consumed two red bulls on the house over the course of my 8 hour shift. During my shift I consumed the use of my phones plan to read news articles at slow points and communicate with my coworkers at busy points. After my shift I consumed my free shift drink, I made a double vodka cranberry with lime.
