Steve Rogers x wife!reader after Steve fakes his death
(No warnings. Just a chat between Steve and Sam Wilson. Who will end up as Captain America?) WC 341
Steve sees the icy bank of the Hudson outside the vast East-facing windows, and the view triggers something inside him.
“I almost came back,” he starts quietly. “There was one time after the first real frost that I just…ran.” The serum held fast then; Steve hadn’t been pushed to the brink yet. “The nearest town—a village really—was across this frozen lake, and I made it right to the edge. Watched their lights for a while. Wondered if I’d make it back here before whoever—I mean, before the…”
He’s never, ever going to call them ‘Keepers.’ Steve would rather die for real.
“…before the group found me. I wondered if the villagers saw me, would she be grabbed before I got back, too? I sat out there all night,” Steve sighs, “and then I just…turned around.
“I don’t think I can do this anymore, Sam. It’s not the same,” he confesses flatly.
Sam nods, taking in that information, processing. Steve’s had a week (plus a few months) to process and is still nowhere near a conclusion, so he expects it to take his friend a lot longer.
“Your lady was like that, too.” Sam turns while moving forward and indicates the whole gym. “She circled. She kept circling, tryna figure out which door to go out, which thing to do next, tryna figure out if she wanted to get off the track in the first place. And we forced her off by accident. Thought it was for the best.
“You can walk in circles anywhere. Finding familiarity is natural. That’s instinctive. Also, totally normal to be scared as hell of the unfamiliar.”
Pride swells in Steve. This is why Wilson was so good at the VA.
“It’s not like you’re waking up one day wanting a career change, Steve. Most people learn and train for a job. You were created for this job; that’s a tough gig. No wonder it’s a bitch to get out of it--get out of that mindset.”
Language, Steve’s brain shouts automatically.
A/N: Yes, I know it's been a shit summer for updates from me, and yes, I know this poor story has languished long enough. However, I dug us into such angst that I feel very compelled to raise us way, way out of that angst by the end. There is just this big hurtle before the super fluff, gang. I promise!

The taunting crack of the t against his tongue gave Emma a surge of renewed energy. Rolling her hips, she slid her slick center over his cock and watched with satisfaction as his breath caught, his eyes rolled back, and another decadent sound poured from his lips.
“The real question is…” she walked herself forward on her hands, pressing them into his chest as her hips continued to grind down on his length, then grabbed his wrists and forced them above his head, “can you?”

Rhea glanced at her phone anxiously, the tension visible between her brows.
“No word?” Frankie asked.
Rhea shook her head, no. Her eyes jumped up to the shop, where Benny already walked in out of curiosity. He was like a big, excited, open minded kid.
She knew he’d be the least freaked out about this - well, the most excited about it. With both Santi and Frankie’s background, she’s sure they must have seen some elements of this kind of thing, if not from their parents, then their grandparents.
Her phone rang. She quickly answered. “Hey, we’re all here.”
“Sorry, I won’t make it.” the voice on the other end said.
She sighed heavily, walking off, leaving Frankie and Will behind her. “Santi you said you’d come, this is for all of us. Do you know how hard it was to get his appointment?” she spoke not with anger, but with disappointment and a tinge of worry.
“Rhea-” he groaned, “ I’m sorry. I’m involved in something down here - I - “
His voice trailed off. She could hear speaking in the background, music, what sounded like a vehicle moving.
She frowned. “Are you working?”
Santiago hesitated to answer. They were all taking a break, trying to lay low and make their way through the chaotic storm of what happened just a month ago. Santi said he was going to Australia to lay low, this did not sound like Australia.
Rhea sat on the hood of her car, switching the phone to her other ear. “Dammit Pope, it's’ not safe, it's too soon - you need to lay low!”
He swallowed on the other end, his breath stilled. Even with him not being in front of her, she could image the look on his face, and the way he was likely rubbing the back of his neck.
Then, finally, he said with sadness, “I needed to keep busy, “ he got quiet, really quiet. “I’ll call soon.”
“No- wait-” she stood, aware of Will and Frankie’s eyes on her, “can you meet with someone there? A medicine person? A-”
A short laugh came, one that was supposed to lighten the mood. She could tell it was serving as cover for something else. “I’m fine. Don’t be so dramatic sweetheart - “ he forced a smile on the other end. “I’ll call soon.”
“Santiago - “ before she could finish, he hung up. “Fuck.” she stared at the phone.
“He’s not coming.” She heard Will say, like he wasn’t surprised, but also disappointed.
She answered with a silent no, slumped her shoulders, then stared at the ground.
Frankie sighed, having his own thoughts on all this, but their appointment was in 5 minutes. As if Will read his mind, he said,
“We need to go inside.”
She nodded an answer again, too sad and worried to speak. Dammit Pope.

New chapter is coming soon. It’s a long one (as if any of them are ever short, lol!), and it’s taking forever! And my kiddos have everything happening this week, of course. And, because I’m insane, I decided to make a hand-sewn spider costume for my 4 year-old from scratch! I hope it turns out, because it’s way too late to find any good Halloween costumes at this point! x_x
I may start to post some of the beginning scenes from this chapter that are finished already. I probably won’t get the whole chapter done until next week though.

hey just wanted to ask when r u posting sacrificies part 3??
It will be coming soon. I plan on devoting a good amount of time to it this weekend. My only other plan is going to see Insidious (I love that series!).
It's about 2/3 done. All of the big plot points are in place. I mainly just have to fill in some missing dialogue & finish up the detailed smexy bits. There will be 2 full scenes and lots of allusions that Stephen is a menace & can't get enough now, lol.
It will for sure be out this coming week. I'm aiming for Wednesday.
