shanks (maternal) lore drop be upon ye

Ancestors came from Hardrada, island of a violent group of sailors in the New World. Hardrada and Elbaf were very close allies and shared similar cultures in the days before the Void Century (The God Elbaf and the God Har are viewed as the same, simply under different names). Given how far they traveled, there are remnants of Hardrada along the Grand Line and in many of the Blues as many chose to settle elsewhere.

Shanks' comes from a long line of Priests & Priestesses who advised Hardrada's royalty: each had 10 followers beneath them

Prior to the start of the Void Century, Hardrada made contact with the Great Kingdom and the Priest at the time swore the serve those with the initial D. and, supposedly, in return, she was taught Conqueror's Haki by them

Fast forward to the Void Century; Hardrada's royalty refused to take part in the war and wished to side with that would become the World Government

The Priestess at the time, Velleda, was not happy with this and when she spoke out, was banished from the island,

Velleda never left the island and instead journeyed into the mountains and had the sword Gryphon forged (supposedly with a dragon's flame) and then slayed the dragon. Legend has it that Velleda's hair was not originally red, but that it turned that color after this, and many began calling her Akagami afterwards.

She returned and overthrew the royalty of Hardrada and named herself the new Chief. Given the island's heavy warrior culture, Hardrada eagerly joined in the war.

Following their defeat, the newly formed World Government took over Hardrada, and the Gorosei focused on flushing out those with Velleda's blood. Many fled to other islands in hopes of escaping the WG's wrath. Bounties were put out on those with Red Hair and they were hunted down and often scalped for their hair.

Elbaf sheltered many Hardradans during the hunt, including Shanks' ancestor, Folke, one of Velleda's descendant's and the current bearer of Gryphon. After ransacking Hardrada, the World Government began snooping around Elbaf, and the Giants offered to hide him, but Folke turned himself in so long as the WG agreed to his terms. He requested that they remove the bounties on those who remained and to let Hardradans and their descendants live in peace, promising himself and his descendants in return.

Seeing Velleda as the root problem of Hardrada, the WG agreed and escorted Folke and his family to the Holy Land where they were to be kept as a slave. Hardrada was left alone.

Impressed by Folke's power and abilities, the Five Elders began to feed lies and manipulate them. They were kept isolated from their people and culture and were bred with a person of choosing to keep their bloodline going. Gyphon was passed down the family line and, eventually, Folke's descendants were used as protectors of the Celestial Dragons and the Holy Land.

The Five Elders began to dispatch the Akagami on missions to hunt down the Devil Fruits to gift to Celestial Dragons and were often sent in search of notable fruits such as the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which continually slipped away. Gryphon became bloodthirsty for Devil Fruit users as the centuries passed and those with red hair were seen as vicious killers throughout the seas. Shanks' family moved from slaves to being a well-loved pet of the Celestial Dragons.

Shanks' mother, Astra, was well loved. The Celestial Dragons would take her places and dress her up to their liking. Portraits of her remain, hidden away from the Five Elders and Holy Knights. Though powerful, Astra's social skills were lacking, typically coming off as emotionless. During most of her young adult life, she fulfilled the roles expected of her.

 Astra learned of her familial connection to Hardrada for the first time after meeting Rocks D. Xebec. This news stunned her as she and her ancestors had been kept in the dark regarding their history for centuries. She feared questioning her role to the Gorosei and the Holy Knights and bit her tongue, but continued to learn more of her past by seeking out Xebec over the years.

Xebec told her how the Celestial Dragons had never cared for her. That she was being used for her abilities and they were punishing her for what her ancestors did. He applauded her ancestors for their actions against the WG and that Hardrada was once a great and powerful nation that had become weak. That she should be ruling Hardrada and that he would treat her well if he were in charge.

As Astra grew older, Figarland Garling requested her as his wife due to her strength and hoped to produce two children. An heir for her duties and an heir for his. The Five Elders agreed and the two were wed.

When she became pregnant, Astra fled, Xebec's words in her mind. She went to Hardrada, hoping her people would take her back and provide a safe haven to keep her from the Five Elders and Garling, but most shuttered their windows and closed their doors. Their current Chieftain refused her entry and demanded she return to the Holy Land. Distraught, Astra destroyed the capital city, killed their Chieftan, and fled elsewhere.

Though she managed to keep herself hidden, Garling eventually tracked her and Shanks down and brought him to the Holy Land.

Garling brings Shanks with him during the Native Cleaning Festival at God Valley, where he plans to kill Astra. Though he does end up succeeding, Astra manages to sneak Shanks into a treasure chest during the chaos of Xebec's battle with Roger and Garp, in hopes of Xebec and his crew picking him up.

I know Quackity said "Don't stress if you can't watch every single POV and if you don't know all the lore" and all that, but it genuinely frustrates me so much that I cannot, realistically, know every single detail of the QSMP storyline. Even trying to just focus on the "main" story isn't possible since so many people are doing things tied to it, and so many unexpected things happen.

I don't really have a point to make with this post, I'm just venting my frustrations. I like knowing complete stories and knowing I can't do that with QSMP frustrates me so much.

Five years ago, a malignant mass removed from John Winchester's temporal lobe left behind a quietly ticking bomb that nobody noticed until it decimated everything. Five years ago, John dragged Dean away from everything he'd ever known, hellbent on rescuing him from an imagined threat that felt more real to him than the blood on his hands. Five years ago, Castiel let Dean's hand slip through his fingers as he rescued Sam from what he'd thought was a more immediate threat.

For five years, Castiel has wondered if there was some way he could have saved Dean, too.

Now, with a phone call that he'd all but given up hoping for, Castiel has a chance to try again.

For the second time in as many days, Castiel finds himself right on the edge of a panic attack in the busy corridor of Via Christi St. Francis.

His hands feel too big for his body. His heart is pounding somewhere several feet in front of his chest—feels like it’s stuck in mid-air back on the other side of the wall, where Dean’s voice is muffled beneath the sound of hospital staff trying to coax him from his place on the floor and back into bed. He’s still chanting something. Something on the edge of a melody, though his voice is too cracked and breathless for Castiel to know if it’s a song or just some kind of mantra. He can just barely make it out beyond the ringing in his ears.

At his side, Sam is tense and stand-offish. Castiel isn’t exactly surprised by that. It’s not uncommon for fear and hurt to present as bitterness in Sam Winchester.

That first year after everything happened, Sam had been more closed-off and bull-headed than Castiel had ever seen him. Bobby had been at his wit’s end trying to look after him while barely keeping a handle on his own grief, and had Ellen not stepped in to help, Castiel isn’t certain either of them would have made it through intact. He can only hope that the strides Sam has taken in the years since will make this incident nothing more than a brief and minor setback; that Dean’s trauma won’t compound Sam’s.

Focusing on that is enough to divert Castiel from his own downward spiral.

Sam is hurt. He’s scared. Castiel might not be able to actually fix anything, but over the years he’s come to consider Sam his own brother, and he can offer support. If nothing else, he can do that.

Reaching out, he lightly taps Sam’s elbow to get his attention.

“Are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” Sam snaps, and immediately looks guilty for the outburst, his tense shoulders dropping slowly. Deliberately. “Sorry. I’m—“

Before he can finish, a forty-something nurse in purple scrubs steps out of Dean’s room and gestures for them to follow her. Her name tag introduces her as Tasha Banes, R.N., and despite it being more than two weeks after Halloween, she’s wearing a button below it with the silhouette of a witch flying past a crescent moon. She leads them to a small room a few doors down from Dean’s.

Inside, there’s an ambiguous painting of an orange skyline on the wall and an arrangement of artificial flowers sitting on a low table with a box of tissues. A water cooler stands to one side of the couch, but the paper cup dispenser at its base is empty. Castiel guesses it’s a room usually used to deliver bad news to worried families. He’s doubtful of its efficacy.

“Are you both okay?” Nurse Banes asks first, looking them both over with a critical eye as they sink side-by-side onto the couch. When they nod she perches on the edge of the coffee table opposite them. “Could you tell me what happened?”

With a quick look over at Sam, whose mouth appears firmly shut, Castiel recounts everything he remembers. From Dean’s first signs of distress at their arrival, to the way he’d seemed to briefly calm down, to the moment when he knocked the cup out of Sam’s hand. Those last few seconds as he chanted against his sleeve. Nurse Banes listens intently, a thoughtful furrow forming in her brow.

“I only—I just said I was happy to see him,” Sam finally forces out. “I swear, that’s all I— that’s all I said. I didn’t even touch him.”

Castiel squeezes his shoulder.

“I think he was just overwhelmed, Sam.”

“It’s to be expected,” Nurse Banes agrees, giving Sam a patient smile. “Now, I’m going to go check in, see how he’s doing, and I’ll be back in a few minutes to let you know how he is, okay?”

“Okay,” Sam says, voice tight.

“Thank you,” Castiel tells her.

After she leaves, Sam releases a long breath, and Castiel looks over at him to find that he’s calmed down considerably.

“It was—he was having a panic attack, right?” Sam asks, glancing over when Castiel nods. “I had them, you know. Back when… back then.”

“I remember. I did, as well. I still do, sometimes.”

“Yeah,” Sam says, picking at a caught thread on the knee of his jeans. “Same.”

The Lynch-O’Donnell Family Tree

The first tree is dedicated to the O’Donnell family, while the second one is dedicated to the Lynch family. They both follow the six most recent generations, although both can be traced back much further. They joined together in the fourth generation with the marriage of Seán O’Donnell (b. 1936) and Ailis Lynch (b. 1936), thus sharing both the fifth and sixth generations. The fifth generation is solely made up of Seán and Ailis’s five children and their spouses, while the sixth generation is made up of Seán and Ailis’s grandchildren as Ailis’s brother, Doyle (b. 1925), never married and died childless.

John O’Donnell (b. 1835) is the first recorded member of this O’Donnell family. Due to a combination of poverty, invasion, war, and language barriers, the previous family members’ names have been lost to history.

The Lynch family can be traced back to the early 1660s with a Slytherin wizard named Cathal Lynch. There are numerous Lynch family members, much more than are shown on the family tree. Most are related to Bain’s siblings.

You may notice that Niamh Kelly (b. 1875) is included in this family tree. It has combined information from the Tadhg Lives AU and the canon timeline. The main difference is the death years. In that timeline, Tadhg dies in 1897 at the age of twenty-three, while Cillian dies in 1931 and Orla dies in 1913. Niamh and her children with Tadhg do not really exist in that timeline.

An open letter to @staff

I already submitted this to Support under "Feedback," but I'm sharing it here too as I don't expect it to get a response, and I feel like putting in out in public may be more effective than sending it off into the void.

The recent post on the Staff blog about changing tumblr to an algorithmic feed features a large amount of misinformation that I feel staff needs to address, openly and honestly, with information on where this data was sourced at the very least.

Claim 1: Algorithms help small creators.

This is false, as algorithms are designed to push content that gets engagement in order to get it more engagement, thereby assuring that the popular remain popular and the small remain small except in instances of extreme luck.

This can already be seen on the tumblr radar, which is a combination of staff picks (usually the same half-dozen fandoms or niche special interests like Lego photography) which already have a ton of engagement, or posts that are getting enough engagement to hit the radar organically. Tumblr has an algorithm that runs like every other socmed algorithm on the planet, and it will decimate the reach of small creators just like every other platform before it.

Claim 2: Only a small portion of users utilize the chronological feed.

You can find a poll by user @darkwood-sleddog here that at the time of writing this, sits at over 40 THOUSAND responses showing that over 96 percent of them use the chronological feed*. Claiming otherwise isn't just a misstatement, it's a lie. You are lying to your core userbase and expecting them to accept it as fact. It's not just unethical, it's insulting to people who have been supporting your platform for over a decade.

Claim 3: Tumblr is not easy to use.

This is also 100% false and you ABSOLUTELY know it. Tumblr is EXTREMELY easy to use, the issue is that the documentation, the explanations of features, and often even the stability of the service is subpar. All of this would be very easy for staff to fix, if they would invest in the creation of walkthroughs and clear explanations of how various site features work, as well as finally fixing the search function. Your inability to explain how your service works should not result in completely ignoring the needs and wants of your core long-term userbase. The fact that you're more willing to invest in the very systems that have made every other form of social media so horrifically toxic than in trying to make it easier for people to use the service AS IT WORKS NOW and fixing the parts that don't work as well speaks volumes toward what tumblr staff actually cares about.

You will not get a paycheck if your platform becomes defunct, and the thing that makes it special right now is that it is the ONLY large-scale socmed platform on THE ENTIRE INTERNET with a true chronological feed and no aggressive algorithmic content serving. The recent post from staff indicates that you are going to kill that, and are insisting that it's what we want. It is not. I'd hazard to guess that most of the dev team knows it isn't what we want, but I assume the money people don't care. The user base isn't relevant, just how much money they can bring in.

The CEO stated he wanted this to remain as sort of the last bastion of the Old Internet, and yet here we are, watching you declare you intend to burn it to the ground.

You can do so much better than this.

This post is required reading about Team Rocket’s ages since that’s usually a question that comes up a lot LOL. As for Delia’s age, she is said to be 29 in Takeshi Shudo’s (original writer on Pokémon) novel that built out the world and characters of the anime.

Next, I feel like this chart helps give the vibe of what these characters relationship is (all just headcanons except for their names and ages)!

What does "Hanamusa" mean?

Hanamusa is a combination of Delia and Jessie's Japanese names, Hanako and Musashi respectively.

When does this AU take place?

It takes place sometime after the Mezase Pokémon Master/To Be a Pokémon Master series. So all the events that happened in the series, unless retconned within the series, happened. Ash is 10 at the start of the comics.

What's the status between Jessie, James, Meowth and Giovanni/Team Rocket?

Not great terms since they were fired, but also not the worst terms. Giovanni just let the three of them go without any further issues. I will say that I've always loved the theory that Giovanni keeps Jessie specifically around because of her parentage and he as a soft spot for her that he keeps a secret. I feel like Matori was the one that got the three of them fired and Giovanni wasn't able to make an excuse for them this time (without showing nepotism/special treatment) so he was forced to let them go.

If you headcanon Delia as a lesbian, how did Ash come to be?

Delia was young when she had Ash and I hc that she just didn’t really explore her sexuality much! I myself didn’t realized I liked women until I was 18 and didn’t know I liked ONLY women until like 2 years ago. She got married, had a baby and realized after her husband left that she liked women (trans people exist obviously but I’m also interpreting Ash’s father as a cis man).

Who do you think Ash’s dad is?

I don’t know and I don’t really care to explore it. I’m going off of the novel interpretation that he’s just a deadbeat that left to be a trainer, failed and never came back because of the shame. He’s not important.

Isn’t Giovanni Ash’s dad?

That’s a common misconception that people remember wrong from the Pokémon Live show. Delia mentions she dated Giovanni but then left him and his gang after meeting Ash’s father. I also don’t consider the live show canon personally! I follow The Birth of Mewtwo timeline where Madame Boss founded Team Rocket.

Do you think Delia and Giovanni dated at least?

Nah, I think he’s too old for her? I always got the vibe from The Birth of Mewtwo that he was quite a bit older than Jessie and it’d be sus if he was dating Delia when she was married to, and had a child with her husband at 18/19. He’s a bad guy but not a BAD guy.

You mentioned you still ship Jessie and James. Why not make a Jessie, James, Delia polycule?

I have a few reasons I’ve mentioned before! 1. I’m in super deep with this AU already and I feel it’d be very confusing for casual viewers of my stuff if James was added into the relationship haha. 2. I’ve drawn Jessie and James together since 2011 and took this AU as an opportunity to try my hand at writing them as queer, platonic besties bc I love that interpretation of them a lot as well. 3. I’m not poly myself and the way I write this ship is largely based off of my experiences with my girlfriend. I just know I’d favor the Jessie/Delia of it all which isn’t fair and not a good interpretation of a poly relationship. All that said, I DO super enjoy seeing peoples’ poly headcanons and art!

Who does James end up with in this AU?

Do Jessie and James have all their Pokémon in this AU

I think they have all the Pokémon that they did by the end of Mezase Pokémon Master (all their Pokémon that were left at HQ). Most of their released Pokémon have stayed released and the Alola Pokémon are still in Alola. I bring back Arbok and Weezing post-Jessie and Delia getting married. I may bring back Chimecho, Growlie and Cacnea if I think of an idea I like!

Does Ash travel with anyone at this point of his life?

I don't have anyone in particular in mind! I could see him making new friends (Nemona???) or traveling with different combinations of old friends. Like him, Misty and Goh, him, Dawn and Cilan, him, Serena and Lillie etc.

Will Delia ever get over her phobia of snake Pokémon

Not fully! I think overcoming fears is fine and good but I think real PHOBIAS are much harder to get past and I don't want to cheapen it. She slowly gets used to Jessie's Seviper specifically and gets to the point where she can pet it comfortably with Jessie in the room. But otherwise, still scared and would need that same amount of time per Pokémon

Is Jessie gaining weight or is it just me?

Not just you! Jessie puts on a bit of relationship weight overtime as you'll see in the later comics in the timeline. Jessie grew in poverty, never knowing when her next meal would be and that continued into her life as a Team Rocket member. Once she was able to settle down (with a woman who runs her own restaurant no less) she's able to live a healthier lifestyle with regular meals and puts on some weight because of that.

Does Jessie ever feel self conscious about gaining weight?

Nope! She feels happier and healthier and hotter. She's also unreasonably excited to clear out her old clothes and get a new wardrobe.

Would Jessie and Delia ever have kids together or adopt?

Nah, Ash is enough for them! I have come up with hypothetical kids for them but they're not canon to this AU. Just a fun little thing for me.

Will you ever put this on webtoon?

Nah. People mostly ask me this because they want to read everything in the order of the timeline but to my knowledge, you can’t reorder chapters or installments which would defeat the purpose. I also don’t think nintendo fan stuff would fly there. Also, also it’s just extra work and another place to upload and I want to keep this all fun for myself~

BEGINNING || PREVIOUS || NEXT (SOON) MASTER POST

Man oh man, this one was way messier and off model than my last few updates but whatever, we got to keep this ball rolling! Life's been crazy so I've had to take some unwanted breaks in between updates. Thanks everyone for your patience as always!

One thing I wanted in this flashback was to really get a sense of how the brothers worked as an experienced team with Leo at the helm as a proper leader. It's something we never got to see much of in Rise and I felt it was important to include since half the team is already gone by the time of Replica. Team Dynamics Ted Talk under the cut!

We know from Casey Jr that Leo stressed the importance of listening to your team. A big part of that also means knowing how to communicate with them in general.

With Michelangelo, he keeps it short and succinct, trusting his brother to know what he's doing when in his element. This trust goes a long way with Mikey, having spent years of his youth as the baby striving for the respect he felt he deserved. Leo knows it's best to not bog Mikey down with details, allowing him to improvise as needed. This unspoken freedom has only grown over time as Mikey has dipped deeper into spiritual arts that, frankly, go completely over Leo's head.

The greatest sacrifice Leo has ever made was read Donnie's Big Book of Bad Guy Codes. While he doesn't remember ALL the numbers, he has memorized the ones that matter and it has helped tremendously in avoiding miscommunication with his genius brother. More importantly it silenced any of Donnie's usual belly-aching. As Leo's "twin"/"equal" the two still butt heads from time to time. Donnie respects his brother's authority (mostly) but will still push the boundaries of what he's allowed on a semi-regular basis. Give Donnie an inch and he will take the mile and then find a loop hole that allows him to go twenty miles more. This is partially due to him often being the one left behind at HQ, making the turtle just a TAD stir crazy. Leo does his best to keep him in line regardless.

Big brother Raph will forever and always be big brother to Leo. As such he holds a place of authority in Leo's heart and is someone he still regularly seeks counsel from in both the ways of leadership and more. Raph is always happy to support his younger brother and does a surprisingly good job (albeit after years of practice) of walking the line so as not to step on his brother's toes in the process. At least not since the secret of "the Key" blew up in their faces several years ago. They don't talk about that anymore. Leo is the leader now and he's done a great job in recent years as far as Raph is concerned. He trusts him to make the right call. The two have a close bond and regularly use mind meld to quickly communicate rather than speak ...this will be important to remember for the future.

Someone remind me not to make decisions when I’m still catching up on sleep because I’ve spent 6 months writing this Lucifer fic in an echo chamber and I’m severely tempted to say fuck it and release chapter 1 into the wild.

#I have 7 chapters drafted. I believe 5 or 6 of those are edited enough to share but again I'm still tired #and everything is reading like crap right now #(it also reads like crap because I've read it 5000 times in the last 6 months) #but there's still like 25 (!!!) more chapters to write #and yeah I have an outline but that's just the broad strokes #the details come in chunks #like sure I write better over the summer because my brain hibernates over winter #so the next 6 months should be much more productive writing-wise #than the last 6 months were #but the fic still isn't done!!! #Is it even worth releasing chapter 1 if the update schedule is going to be like one chapter a month??? #because anything more than that will put too much pressure on me and I cannot write under pressure #my brain flatlines #but I also can't write in an echo chamber anymore.
