I'll be doing the #upgrowthchallenge by HollieBB with a bit of the updated rules from the #DecadesChallenge by Cutecoffeegal, starting in 1890 and then ending in 2080. I will try to keep this simblr updated as much as possible with all the wackiness that it entails and post lookbooks of each character, including all the CC links used. There will be a separate post for all general mods & CC used in gameplay.

**DISCLAIMER**

I am a bi/demi pale Puerto Rican femme married to a straight white American male and in no way a fashion historian or historian in general. I'm mostly interested in playing these challenges to enrich my gameplay and to be able to expand on the legacy concept, since I've never been able to make it past 1 or 2 generations in regular gameplay. I'm trying to challenge myself to stay committed to this and I will try to do my research in order to portray every ethnic group represented in my stories in the most respectful way possible. If you spot any historical inaccuracies in terms of fashion, buildings, environment, behavior, etc., kindly point them out. Though, please note that I will probably mostly play for funsies and not strictly for historical accuracy.

I also mean to play this game as realistically as possible so there will be light NSFW scenarios such as Teen Pregnancy, Race/Ethnicity, Period-Typical Sexism, Gendered Language, War, Death, Suggestive (but not explicit) Content, Infidelity/Cheating, Religion, Menstruation, Infertility, Alcohol, Smoking, Period-Typical (mild) Homophobia, etc.

The story, all names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this simblr are fictitious, unless indicated otherwise. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, buildings, etc, blah blah blah disclaimer this and that, you know the drill.

This project will probably take a while to finish, but I'm willing to take on the task. Thank you to those who are staying to follow me on this upcoming weirdly exciting journey...and so long to the 80% of bots that are just gathering dust in my followers section.

Broom instead of mop - an override by xBrilliantsims

My historical sims was wondering what that shiny, foreign material they were using to wipe up mess was. Better to use a broom. They know what that is, even if it is questionable if it works well on liquids...

This is an override, meaning that it replaces the default modern mop that appears when you click on puddle or mess and select “mop”. It still uses the old animations and everything, but at least it look more correct. If you want the regular mop back, just remove the override file from your mods folder.

It definitely should be base game compatible, but let me know if it isn’t.

And now for something completely different ...

I have been a lurker for quite awhile. I’ve finished my Associates Degrees, my kids are in college. One is studying to be an engineer the other a teacher, I’m over the moon proud of them both . Work has been extremely busy but it’s finally calming down. 

My Spectral save is dead and I’ve been trying to figure out what direction I want to go with my game. Do I restart it, try another legacy, try a short story .....

I love reading other users stories. However, I am not a creative writer. If you need a written breakdown of how a law applies to a certain scenario, with a detail of the legal repercussions and fiscal impact, no problem. Creative writing, making up the lives, communities and whims of a fictional world .... negatory, good buddy! I found the writing aspect to be the greatest hindrance to my posting. 

For now I think I’m going to try my hand at a loose interpretation of the Decades Challenge (though I may borrow from the Upgrowth Challenge and somethings may go right out the window with the bathwater).

I will be incorporating CC that may or may not be MM. I prefer MM but I’m not a creator so, I will use what I can find that is generally period appropriate (some items don’t have a replacement at all, functionality over aesthetic).

When I was looking for ideas on how to build my world, I came across so many terrific builds for community lots. Community lots are not my forte, but when inspiration strikes you can’t ignore it. I’ve made one a couple of churches for the game, and each new one gets a little better. I found a tutorial over at HistoricalSimsLife on how to build a park, I was jock full of new ideas and Rutherford Church came to life. 

I built this church at the beginning of my Decades/Upgrowth Challenge so there’s no upholstery inside, but there are two bathrooms. There is a small play area just beside the church with a nice area with a fountain for quiet reflections. A small graveyard sits between the church and the fountain. 

You can download this lot off the gallery, but make sure you have custom content clicked on and have MoveObjects on when placing.

17. which sims challenges have you tried?

i started (and never finished) so many back in my ts3 days (i even tried to make my own build-a-city legacy challenge but i never finished it rip). in ts4 when i first got the basegame i completed the expanded princess challenge which was SO much fun (one of these days i'll post it but i misplaced my notes somewhere along the way). and right now i'm taking the burwells through the upgrowth challenge!

20. what is the cc/ingame hair that looks the most like your own?

for my simself i used the nikora hair by simstrouble but it's not exact as i have bangs now :(

So I’ve made some progress on my Decades/Upgrowth Challenge and it’s now 1906! So of course, I decide that I may have made a mistake with starting on the 20x30 lot. If I had started on a 40x30 lot then I could have made a proper farm.

I then realized that I’m dumb and could’ve started off my new challenge with a farm inspired by my great-grandparent’s actual farm. They named their farm “Lover’s Leap” and raised their kids on it.

So I’m not following the rules 100%. I’m moving the Rutherford’s to the newly created Lover’s Leap farm, and while this farm was inspired by my family’s it doesn’t look like it at all, except for maybe the front yard and gardens.

It’s an American Foursquare inspired house again, but this one leans a little more towards a typical farmhouse, IMO. I know the pictures aren’t the best quality, but I have an older laptop and she’s finicky.

So the lot I used was Midtown Meadows (40x30) in Rutherford (Newcrest) and I set it up so that it actually uses the side street, but everyone loads on the main street. I had to lock the back door to everyone but household members, because when they host a yard sale people just walk in like they own the place!

Being that it’s 1906 in my game, you won’t find much electricity. There are lights, and that’s about it. I know why I don’t usually share fully decorated lots. They take so much time! It does have CC in it, and the list of where to find all the CC I used is below. When searching for stuff on the gallery make sure you have custom content clicked and have MoveObjects on when placing!

Rutherford Church is set alongside a small park, with a small graveyard behind the church. A fountain with plenty of benches allows for peaceful reflection.
