Today is unbelievably sad and infuriating.

This is Dr. Lisa-Maria Kellermayr a General Practitioner in the Austrian countrysise. (photo taken from her twitter). Today she was found dead in her practice.

Ever since Covid began, she was on the very forefront of care, even pioneering a readily available asthma spray for treatment. On twitter she was outspoken about difficulties she and other primary care providers faced and she strongly encouraged vaccination.

Because of that she became victim if a hateful mob of covid deniers and Nazis who sent just the most awful, detailed death threats. She had to close down her practice due to increasing security costs.

The police, of course, took none of this seriously and even called her attention seeking. Neither the ministry of health, the Upper Austrian government, the Chamber of Doctors nor anybody in power did anything to help her. Once she made her distress public over twitter a hacktivist from Germany cracked the identity of her stalker within 24hrs. Lisa-Maria's story got picked up by a lot of media and finally things started to look up a bit.

Then today she was found dead. Just a few days after Austria's minister for health decided to end quarantine altogether. Police immediately ruled out foul play and declared it a suicide. Whether that's true or not her case is just the most devastating tip of the iceberg of what right wing radicalization has come to in Austria and all of Europe.

She was not the only one affected, she was just the most vocal about it. This will not go away on its own. I don't even know what to say or do at this point except hold each other close today and organize tomorrow.
