Surf rash is often a red, sore rash caused by the rubbing of a wetsuit or board which can be across the neck and chest most commonly. "Surf rash occurs when the skin is softened and weakened by exposure to salt water, as well as minuscule, abrasive sea salts rubbing against the skin, creating an exfoliator effect. Over time, this combination breaks down the skin causing inflammation, pain and even superficial wounds" (Belcher, 2021).

The biggest problem is from surfing without a rash vest, followed closely by rashes from boardshorts and wetsuits."

I also have seen many of my friends struggle with this therefore, it seems to be a common problem in surfing. The article again promotes their own protective surf cream as a solution to this problem as commonly Vaseline is used, however can provide slip on a surfboard which isn't ideal. Including something like this in a urf kit would be beneficial to many out there and would make it easy to remember to put on before a surf.
