Native Plant Info Masterlist...2!
This will be a USA centric post sadly, mostly focused on the East, since I am unfamiliar with resources outside of my area.
iNaturalist lets you upload pictures of any organisms and get them identified by the community, but if you don't want to upload, you can still lurk and look through all the photos being posted in your area to develop familiarity with the plants
Wildflower Search lets you toggle between photos of leaves, flowers, fruits etc. of each plant, gives loads of links to other sites that provide info, lets you search by flower color, plant type, time of year, and about a dozen other search criteria- very cool site
Wildflower.org is another very good site- has a search function where you can search plants by various traits and qualities
Find native plants by the number of butterflies that use them
Butterfly host plant list
Keystone species for every USA ecoregion for butterflies and bees
UNC Chapel Hill's 2022 Flora of the Southeastern United States. The ultimate EXHAUSTIVE compendium of plants. You can download it but beware it is over 2,000 pages long
Illinois Wildflowers is an excellent resource for plants found throughout the southeast and Midwest
Virginia Wildflowers
Northern Forest Atlas Awesome high quality photos of trees and leaves, buds, etc.
Name That Plant is a great resource focused on the Carolinas and Georgia
Maryland Biodiversity has much information on plants and many other creatures
Sarracenia.com is all about carnivorous plants
Native Beeology is focused on native bees of New York State
Also try looking up "[your state] native plant society" as many states have one! It could be a great way to find opportunities to get involved.

Controversial opinion but - IMHO- if you abstain from voting for the president bc 'there's no good candidate' you're actively allowing the shittiest ppl to win
If you can't vote bc there's no candidate you like, at the very least you can vote to make sure the candidate who is the worse of the two DOESNT WIN
Because the shitbag candidate WILL have ppl voting for him no matter what. The least you can do is try to negate their votes for him

While we’re celebrating Kim Petras’ historic achievement, let’s give Wendy Carlos her flowers | The FADER
Kim Petras made history last night when she became the first openly trans woman to win a Grammy, taking home Best Pop Duo/Vocal Performance for her Sam Smith collaboration “Unholy.” She accepted the award with a moving speech in which she paid homage to the trans artists who paved the way for her win, most notably the late, visionary producer and DJ SOPHIE. [...]
Petras’ win deserves all the fanfare it’s getting today. But as we celebrate her achievement, let’s also honor Wendy Carlos, who won three Grammys in 1970 for her debut album Switched-On Bach, nine years before coming out as trans.
[...]
Wendy Carlos — still alive today at 83 — remains a titan of electronic music, and it’s important to acknowledge her as such. But it’s especially urgent now, as politicians like Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump attempt to paint the gender spectrum as a novel phenomenon in their ghoulish campaigns to criminalize queerness, to remember that trans people have produced some of society’s greatest advancements, and that they’ve been doing it for a long time, despite the horrific discrimination they’ve always faced.

Hey y'all please I know it's scary but if you've graduated in the past year make sure you know exactly what's up with your student loans (federal and private).
You should have gotten emails from places like Advantage or Navient or whatever pestering you about your loans and you may want to ignore them thinking they're scams. No they are your loan servicer, corporations that the government hands over management of your federal loans to.
The email should tell you how to register for an account which will let you see your loan payments. They'll probably be in the hundred's of dollars depending on how long it's been since you graduated.
Don't fret! Thanks to Bidens efforts (the like one good thing he's doing), you can easily get put on the SAVE plan, where the department of education pays your interests and you make minimum payments based on your current income (which, if you're following me, probably isn't that high).
Honestly, I'd recommend calling and asking about the SAVE plan. The lady was actually super nice (I have aidvantage so your experience may differ) and my minimum payments went from like $400 a month to $0 (now they're $10 bc I got a raise last summer)
And please, for the love of god, keep an eye on your account. I thought I had set up autopay but for the past couple of months autopay wasn't on, so I got charged $30 in late fees.
These loan servicers will try to wring as much money as they can out of either you or the government. You need to babysit them and make sure everything is up to snuff.
I'd also recommend saving and making large payments every once in a while to push down your total debt. That's what the SAVE plan is great for. Instead of using all your money to pay for interest, you use that money to push down the principle.

I'm actually feeling sick and tired when I see a post discoursing or fighting about queer issues and then I realized that it is a USA/Europe centric post all over again, I'm not saying that western people shouldn't talk about it nor anyone shouldn't care about what happened in the west.
But it's just sad when you realize that the existence of queer people is acknowledged enough in the west to the point there can be discourse about it while in your country at the moment it's impossible.
I'm sad when I see post like "Pro tip and organization that you can call to help you if you are an abused queer person" and it's in the USA. Any solution and conversation about queer issues, any resemblance of help only available for western queers
So many leftist conversation are made by western people and only for the west, from the beginning to the conclusion and solution
In the end I'm just an outsiders, looking out of the window, joining a conversation that won't actually affect or help me because I live so far away from the west. Others have a lifeboat even though life as a queer person in the west can be sucks as well
I and others who don't have that privilege don't, we are just drowning and dying...
I'm not blaming anyone, I'm just acknowledging the near hopeless reality

hey i really don't want to come off in an aggressive way but im confused about what you're actually arguing for with this walkable city thing and I think maybe op is too. I may just be misunderstanding something but it does read to me like you're arguing against something that op didn't say and it seems like you're making very similar arguments. I understand if this is too much to ask, but can you explain the difference in what op is saying and what you are? I appreciate your time!
Increasing the number of cars and increasing the amount of car infrastructure and giving car manufacturers and dealers special incentives and tax breaks and letting them lobby congress to make society even more car-centric will not help a single goddamn disabled person alive and I will die on that fucking hill
I literally could not picture a MORE car-centric society than we have in the USA and trying to imagine it makes me SICK. you have trucks will less visual clearance than TANKS. the number of ppl struck and killed by cars has almost TRIPLED in my lifetime
The only thing that will be accomplished by making things more car-centric is comfort for car users. And frankly I don’t fucking care about their comfort when I know physically disabled people who’ve been physically ANNIHILATED by cars for daring to GO OUTSIDE. nobody deserves to fucking die just because we refuse to entertain public transit or accessibility as possibilities for our cities . I hate cars

The idea that trans people in "safe states" shouldn't still fight for their rights isn't the right thing to do, I think. In fact, I'd caution against complacency. We have to ensure that safe states stay safe states. You cannot assume your rights when they are being taken away in many other states

The thing about doing taxes is that I’ve never even heard of most of the things they ask questions about. They ask “Did you invest money into a squeebly squoobly account?” and I’m like “How the hell should I know?” And then I check “No” and then spend the rest of the day wondering “Oh my god what if I actually do have a squeebly squoobly account but don’t know it and I just accidentally lied on my taxes?”

"the babylon bee" documents, in such a damning and ugly way, the transformation of american conservative christianity from "group that claims to value love and caring for humanity while behaving the opposite" into "group that expressly values hatred and cruelty for its own sake"
around the time it launched the babylon bee was a christian satire site that primarily satirized intra-community issues (mega church pastors, 'trendy' worship services) and occasional jabs at Teh Liberals, with equal amounts of mocking evangelicals for supporting Trump
now it's like *"I hate my wife" joke* *joke about violent immigrants* *"women be shopping" joke* *joke about trans people grooming children into a sex cult* *racist joke* *calling women sluts* *calling women fat and ugly* *rape joke* *racist joke*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
babylon bee was always making garbage "blue hair and pronouns" type jokes but this is a whole other fucking level.
back in 2015 i was in a conservative christian homeschool group and I cannot IMAGINE being shown the above screen shots and being told they are from The most popular christian satire website. the level of naked cruelty and prejudice would have been completely shocking.

Do you guys have any contact with a certain vigilante who has guns. Bcs I’ve just had to get out of my home bcs I wasn’t safe there and I heard through the pipeline hood helps out people like me. I wouldn’t ask if it were any other time of year but I might die if I sleep rough now
We can't get in contact with Red Hood directly but we can get you in contact with some reputable places.
Here is a list of shelters that may be able to assist you.
Here is a way to keep warm if you are stuck outside during the winter.
Here is a way to get some food if you don't have any.

tbh a lot of "old" kpop groups that were active pre-youtube pre-spotify had millions of clicks on sites that are gone now 🤷‍♂️ like i remember this one obscure video host site that allowed embedding ... mirotic 90 million views 😔 it's just that internet changed over the years, back in the day you didn't use the same 5 sites for everything and numbers still meant a lot but things were scattered around. i started using twitter before celebrities began to get official accounts, it was so neeeeew and unheard of
