Someday storytellers will realize that giving a hated villain a child to come back in any capacity in the sequel inspires nothing in the audience but confused thoughts that run something along the lines of, “But who was...? Who was the other parent? Who would...? How?”
#this isnt so much about star wars as its about#a tired sequel trope that star wars indulged in#sometimes fanfics do it too#ymmv when that happens#usually i feel like cloning would be a more satisfactory answer but star wars managed to sidestep making that better pretty neatly#listen if you have a situation where a clone of palpatine acquires a conscience and then runs off and gets married and has a child#and then gives up his life to protect said child#but instead of telling us that story youre telling us the st#then you should probably be banned from writing because the palp clone story sounds way more interesting#like honestly#okay for the record i do like rey as a character#but you know what#i want to see palp clones moral dilemma as he distances himself from his power because he sees palp in himself okay#he feels like he must be inherently evil because like#thats who he is! right there! and its awful!#so he cuts himself off from the power and refuses to touch it#but#and bear with me here im writing a little fanfic#but then#he has a child#and the child is so powerful she just balloons out and even he#cut off as he is#can feel her curious exploration into the world around her#and he cant train an infant to shield and he knows its just a matter of time before palpatine comes for her#so instead of#whatever was going on in ros#its palp clone opening himself up to the power he was so afraid of because its the only way he can protect his daughter#oh yeah that right there#thats a good story#anyway this post was inspired by a redwall fanfic
