@bookwermthings you asked me to describe jack's coat during torchwood so;;; alright lets do that i guess
but listen: im just saying things i know for a fact from the top of my head so YEAH it'll be a bit vague and im not putting photos of the coat here. im terribly sorry but im writing this during my lunch break
OKAY lets begin: first off really quick we gotta talk about the first coat. The greatcoat Jack wore in The Empty Child was actually a REAL historical greatcoat from the 40s! It isn't clear but what it seems is that Jack was intended to be just an one-off character so they thought it would be okay to get a real coat, since they're a relatively common piece to find among ww2 memorabilia ( fun fact: that's why that coat seems a little bit too big for jack, it wasn't actually made to fit him. also because that was some THICC fabric right there but it was definetely too big for him)
the coat wasn't accurate to the year set in the episode (those shoulder boards are not even remotely close to the year 1941) nor to the character. the thing about those coats is that higher-ranking officers had enough money to have one made for them from scratch, those were known as "private purchases". therefore, private purchases tended to differ a lot from the ones produced en-masse since they were made from different tailors chosen by different officers.
the coat jack was wearing had a LOT of unique features about it (i wont even start) so i think it's safe to say it was a private purchase. however, the rank braids (those vertical blue lines in his shoulders) indicate that the coat belonged to a squadron leader, NOT a captain.
with all of this in mind, the first coat is still the most historic accurate greatcoat Jack wears.
moving on, when torchwood began and jack ended up not being an one-off character, they had to make a new coat. using a real historic piece is great for one episode, but it clearly won't last for an entire show. buttons fall, it can rip apart, yadda yadda yadda. besides, a real military coat is too heavy to blow heroically as Jack walks. that didnt actually happen in the 40s sorry to disappoint you.
To design the brand new coat, ray holman (torchwood's costume designer) took inspiration from that first coat, the most notable changes being:
FABRIC: RAF coats were initially made from thick wool bc yknow europe is cold. however, john had some sensorial issues with wool, so they changed to moleskin, which is made out of cotton. it is a much lighter fabric than wool, you can see that looking at the lapel. (another fun fact: for what I noticed with MY eyes, it seems like the coat was designed big enough to fit around a full military uniform. like, the whole thing, not just the shirts he uses throughout the whole show. i wonder what they were planning with that.
BUTTONS: the buttons per say are alright but like. the placement??? was in V shape??? Basically that makes the lapels look narrower and that when it's buttoned, the collar doesn't cover the rows of buttons completely like the real ones did. In MY personal opinion i think it was such a creative addition and it looked amazing, but indeed isn't very historically accurate.
LINING: whilst the old coat was half-linned, more specifically around the upper body, this one has aaaaaaall the lining you can ask for. top to bottom baby those are some LINES. it was made with grey......... thread (dont ask me about materials. i am a history student not a master tailor im just trying to finish eating my lunch in time to come back to work. those lines were GREY and thats all im giving u)
RANKING: they changed the rank braids to the ones used by group captains !!! besides the whole thing is a bit longer than the past one (not creating another point just to say that) not because of any historic reason i think. It's definetely more dramatic, though.
THAT is by far the most famous coat Jack wears, since it's present for Torchwood season 1-3 and all of his appearances in RTD's who
the third coat was created exclusively for Miracle Day, and i wont describe it because it didn't stick for long (and i really just watched miracle day once and analyzed this one almost entirely through low quality GIFs). besides ive only got a few minutes left to swallow my food and run desperately back to my room
so yeah those were the three coats he wore and the main features i could remember right now, i hope my venting wasn't too boring and it genuinely interested you. also sorry about any mistakes in grammar, i didnt revise any of this

Ooh, the first Mark Gatiss-written episode! I know there have only been 3 episodes so far, but this sets the stage for the proper spooky ones to begin. Weird blue zombies? Check. Strange ghostly apparitions with children's voices? Check.
I love Simon Callow in anything he does, so it was great to see his interpretation of Charles Dickens again (when I think of Dickens, I pretty much immediately picture Simon Callow). At the beginning he's on stage telling the story of A Christmas Carol, and I remembered that he narrated a BBC Films adaptation of the play as a one-man-show screened in cinemas! (I reviewed it here.) I wonder if that was inspired by this?
Also a great performance from Eve Myles, another person I love, and another person who comes back into the wider Whoniverse later as Gwen in Torchwood (thus beginning the "BBC only use 4 actors on repeat" trend).
Story-wise, this was a fun one. We got some good chemistry between the Doctor and Rose. Until now, I thought her chemistry with the Doctor only really started with David Tennant's Doctor, but I'm realising I was wrong!

1. favourite colours: purple, black, red, dark green and navy blue. in general dark colours.
2. last song i listened to: currently listening to ‘creepy crawlies’ by the scary bitches (i’ve been listening to my halloween playlist almost non stop since late september and will continue well into november at least 🦇🎃🧛♂️👻)
3. favourite musician: i’m really bad at picking favourites and i’m not someone who tends to listen to a band or musician’s entire discography, so this one is hard for me to answer. here are a few i love a lot: KMFDM, Balkan Beat Box, Nine Inch Nails, Shaka Ponk, Fall Out Boy.
4. last movie i watched: The Old Guard, i think?
5. last tv show i watched: i’ve been watching What We Do In The Shadows season one, and can i just say it’s everything i’d hoped for after the movie. 11/10.
6. favourite character: this changes with time, currently i’d say Captain Jack Harkness (Torchwood and Doctor Who)
7. sweet, spicy, or savoury?: s a v o u r y :D almost always, though i’ve been getting more of a sweet tooth in the last few years
8. sparkling water, tea, or coffee?: tea or coffee (i love coffee but i can’t have more than one daily bc anxiety). sparkling water is disgusting, sorry.

I rise from the dead to write some janto cute for @blipintiime.
Torchwood don’t stray F A R from Cardiff. They’re quite content with their little pocket of the universe that seems to have more problems than anywhere else on earth, thank you very much. Cardiff and its surrounding areas at a push. SWANSEA, maybe? Either way. Never far. Never for long.
Until tonight. It’s not a full team mission. It might be. The others are on back up - though lord knows if the M4 was anything to go by it would take them hours to get here if they called - but primarily they’re on their own. Not a problem for them, of COURSE. Torchwood is still Torchwood no matter the quantity. However, Jack and Ianto have found themselves nestled somewhere in the flatlands of Norfolk. It’s not too unlike Wales. There’s a s i m i l a r amount of sheep. It’s quite a lot flatter though. And the sign posts aren’t in two languages.
Safe to say though, Norfolk isn’t somewhere close to Wales. No, it finds itself on the opposite side of the United Kingdom in fact. Far, far away from their beds. Not to worry, because Jack’s booked them a room in a LOVELY bed and breakfast nearby to their mysterious alien sightings.
It’s late when the two of them traipse in that night. They’ve been on the hunt for their suspected creature, on their feet, tracing signs and signals galore but as of yet... no luck. All Jack really wants to go to bed and rest. He’s i m m o r t a l. Doesn't need to sleep to survive but recently his body has gotten used to sleeping more nights often than not with his partner. He finds his body has fallen into SOMEWHAT of a pattern, requiring to go to bed at a certain time of night each and every night. It’s nice, almost.
So Jack checks them in, ignoring the look the elderly woman on the desk seems to give them. Out in the countryside their opinions probably D I F F E R. Twenty first century humans and their aversion to anything slightly out of the norm. Just because two guys are sharing one bed doesn’t mea--
As the door swings open, Jack’s train of thought promptly comes to an end.
Oh.
Right.
That’s why she was staring at them.
Jack already KNOWS this is the last time he gets to do anything organisational before a mission away. Before them, in this quaint little cottage style hotel is one singular, somehow smaller than their original bed in the Hub, bed. It’s T I N Y, made up with a lovely looking duvet he must admit and what could possibly be the comfiest, most e n t i c i n g looking mattress he’s EVER seen.
“Well.” Jack starts as he cocks an eyebrow. A slight wiggle of the head in what seems to be deliberation as he drops his rucksack onto the ground. “Time to cosy up?” He says, gaze turning to Ianto quite quickly. Jack has very little problems with this scenario - of course.
A wink and Jack’s already taking off his coat and slinging it HAPHAZARDLY over the chair in the corner of the room. He’s sure he can feel Ianto’s eye roll burn into the back of his head while his back is turned. It’s a cute place though, they h a v e to admit. Wooden floorboards and beams running across the ceiling. A tiny window with shutters on the outside and a quaint armchair with a lovely lace cushion to match. It’s sweet.
The captain sits on the edge of the bed and kicks off his shoes. He’s not tidy at the best of times but when he’s TIRED, he’s almost ten times worse. Those shoes stay wherever they’ve landed. Jack will find them in the morning. And instead his fingers will find the buttons of his shirt.
“Takes me back to the OLD days.” He says, the way someone would start a story that took place perhaps a decade ago. Jack however is talking only a couple of months. He refers to T H E I R old bed. Jack’s tiny quarters inside the Hub, only really made for one. They’d moved to a bigger room a little while ago now. A normal double bed available and enough room to live comfortably as a pair. It had signified the beginning of a PROPER relationship if nothing else.
Once Jack is undressed, deciding to spend the night simply in his boxers - he lays himself down. He watches as Ianto approaches the bed, and see’s the way his boyfriend attempts to formulate a PLAN. The cogs are visible as they whir in his brain and try to find the best way to fit themselves in this bed. After a few moments Jack becomes impatient.
A hand sticks out from the bed, fingers wrapping around Ianto’s wrist and with a swift TUG, pulls the younger man on top of him completely. Jack grins up at his welshman, eyes lighting up mischievously despite the exhaustion behind them. It takes a m o m e n t more of wriggling before Jack has to the duvet comfortably on top of them both.
“Seemed like it was the ONLY way, don’t you think?” Jack teases lightly.
This is not the first time the two had navigated a too small bed. The Hub had provided it’s challenges for the first month or so of their relationship. The two are more than USED to these kinds of sleeping arrangements
They chat for a while. A few quips here and there about Jack’s LACK of ability to do much of anything right unless it’s taking down an alien species. Jack watches the way that Ianto’s eye crinkle at the edges as he smiles. Takes in the way his eyes shine in such the brightest of blues. Feels how Ianto’s heart beats in TANDEM with his own as the welshman lays across his chest.
After a while, the pair have grown silent. The lights have been turned off and there’s little movement from the man on top of him.
“Asleep?” Jack whispers into the darkness. He wouldn’t be surprised if he were.
“No.” Ianto answers in return. Jack feels his head shift against his shoulder, obviously looking up towards his partner in some capacity.
BLINDLY, the captain moves his hand slowly, until fingers connect with soft skin of Ianto’s cheek. He slides them across gently, e n c o m p a s s i n g his boyfriend's face after a moment and drawing him in.
The kiss that follows is soft and tender. Lips graze against each in what feels like slow motion as they take breaths at the PERFECT moments and meet once again without confusion. Jack, in the dark, can take every moment to simply memorise how Ianto FEELS against his body rather than how he looks.
THOUGH THAT’S PRETTY PERFECT TOO.
There’s a weight against his chest of Ianto’s body on top of his own that grounds him so perfectly. Their legs have TANGLED together without meaning too. Jack’s arms have found themselves crossed and draped over his boyfriend’s back. Once they break apart as a gently as they have come together, Ianto’s hair t i c k l e s Jack’s nose as his head goes down, and there’s a nose that doesn’t belong to him, pushed into the crook of his neck.
Jack will, in his DARKEST moments, remember this night.
And, as he feels the Welshman grow a little heavier against him as sleep takes a hold, he will remember not what it felt like to LOVE Ianto Jones - but what it felt like to be loved BY him.
A perfect man.

I’ve given a lot more thought than I should about a hypothetical reboot of Torchwood and how I’d personally set it up so here you go.
Social media plays a big part for Torchwood in 2019. It’s hard to keep up the super secret organization schtick when everyone’s posting pics of Weevils and Rift openings all over Instagram.
It still has a darker tone compared to Doctor Who, but there’s not as much of a focus on making it edgy for the sake of being edgy (*Cough* Like what happened with S1.
It’d tie it into Doctor Who a bit more than the original. Just enough that there’s more than a couple of mentions of the Doctor, but in a way that it still holds up as a standalone series.
The Team Gets Therapy And Learns How To Cope With Their Shared Trauma
An episode where they’re undercover at a formal event featuring the team dressed to the nines uwu
A bit more of a peak into the lives of the team when they’re not busy saving Cardiff (or the world) from aliens.
Give Tosh more of the attention she deserves dammit!
Also set up Ianto to be more of an important character from the get go instead of just being Torchwood’s teaboy.
Can we get some more lesbians and bi ladies? CAN WE PLEASE GET SOME MORE LESBIANS AND BI LADIES?
And you know that nonsense like the Owen and Gwen cheating subplot, and a needlessly hypersexualized cyberwoman? Let’s leave it in the trash where it belongs!
L O V E to see an episode that’s either not centered on Cardiff (kinda like Miracle Day, but just as a standalone. Maybe a two-parter) or on a completely different world and how the team handles it.
And I know this is very petty of me and it’s his established Look™, but Jack needs more than the same three blue button down and suspender combos. Let the man have some style!

The Obi-Wan Kenobi cast is packed with star power, and here's where people may have seen the actors before. The upcoming Star Wars series – one of several currently in development Disney+ - will see Ewan McGregor reprise his iconic role from the prequel trilogy. Hayden Christensen has previously been confirmed to return as Darth Vader, and the two Star Wars veterans are now being joined by 10 more stars.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will take place 10 years after Order 66 and the other events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. As implied by the title, the series will follow Obi-Wan – now living on Tatooine – during the early days of the Galactic Empire. Though Disney hasn’t revealed concrete story details beyond when the show is set, it will likely see Obi-Wan temporarily depart his vigil over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. Disney has also promised that Obi-Wan and Darth Vader will face off in one way or another in the new series.

While fans will have to keep waiting to learn more about the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Disney has released some big news in the form of sweeping casting announcements. A total of 12 stars have now been confirmed for the show, and though character details have yet to be revealed, the official ensemble is plenty of reason to get excited.
Ewan McGregor is reprising his role as Obi-Wan in the new series, promising more of what many consider to be the best performance in the Star Wars prequels. McGregor is best known for his Star Wars appearances, though he also gained fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s for films like Trainspotting, Black Hawk Down, and Moulin Rouge. Since he last played Obi-Wan, McGregor has appeared in numerous films, including recently roles in Beauty and the Beast, Doctor Sleep, Christopher Robin, Birds of Prey, and a reprisal of his Mark Renton character in T2 Trainspotting.
Like McGregor, Hayden Christensen will make his first proper Star Wars appearance since Revenge of the Sith in Obi-Wan Kenobi. It’s unclear exactly what the role of Christensen’s Darth Vader will be in the new show, but a showdown of some sort between him and Obi-Wan has been confirmed. Christensen’s role as Anakin in the Star Wars prequels is certainly his most famous, though has since appeared in a number of films including Takers, American Heist, and Last Man. He also received some notably critical praise for his leading role in the 2003 film Shattered Glass.
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Moses Ingram is a younger star in Hollywood, but one whose fame is rapidly rising, and rightfully so. Ingram broke out in 2020 when she played Jolene in The Queen’s Gambit alongside Anya-Taylor Joy. She will play Lady Macduff in the Joel Coen-directed, Denzel Washington-led The Tragedy of Macbeth, which is expected to premiere later in 2021, and she’s set to appear in the upcoming Michael Bay thriller Ambulance. Her role in the Obi-Wan show is unknown.

Joel Edgerton will return to the Star Wars universe in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and while it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, it’s safe to assume that he’ll be reprising his prequel trilogy role as Owen Lars – Anakin Skywalker’s stepbrother and Luke’s uncle. The reprisal makes sense considering that Obi-Wan will spend at least some of his time on Tatooine, where he watches over Luke as he grows up. Edgerton has led a long and prolific career as an actor, writer, director, and producer, with notable onscreen roles including Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, Patrick in Zero Dark Thirty, and Falstaff in The King, which he also helped write. He has also recently appeared in Bright, Red Sparrow, and Boy Erased, which he adapted and directed.
It seems that Beru Lars will also be returning in Obi-Wan Kenobi, as Bonnie Piesse – who played Luke Skywalker’s aunt in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith – has been confirmed to star alongside Joel Edgerton. Beyond Star Wars, Piesse has appeared in the Australian series Stingers, Blue Heelers, and Last Man Standing. She also featured in the acclaimed romantic comedy Love Eterne. In addition to her acting career, Piesse is also a professional singer/songwriter.
Acclaimed comedian Kumail Nanjiani will appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi in an unknown role. The actor is best known for playing Dinesh Chugtai on Silicon Valley, and for comedy films like The Lovebirds and The Big Sick, the latter of which Nanjiani wrote with his wife Emily V. Gordon. Nanjiani is also known for his stand-up comedy, the podcast Staying In with Emily and Kumail, which he hosts with his wife, and for the Comedy Central show The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, which ran from 2014-2016. Nanjiani will star as Kingo in the upcoming MCU film Eternals.
A veteran of fantasy and sci-fi television, Indira Varma will star in Obi-Wan Kenobi in an undisclosed role. Varma is most recognizable for her role as Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones, and she will now follow her former costar Pedro Pascal into the world of Star Wars streaming series. Varma has also appeared in series such as Rome, Torchwood, Luther, Human Target, Paranoid, and Carnival Row. She is confirmed to appear in Mission Impossible 7.

Rupert Friend has been confirmed for Obi-Wan Kenobi as an unknown character. Friend is best known for playing Peter Quinn on Homeland – a role that garnered him an Emmy nomination in 2013. He’s also known for playing Mr. Wickham in the 2005 Pride and Prejudice film, Agent 47 in the video game movie Hitman: Agent 47, Vasily Stalin in The Death of Stalin, and Theo van Gogh in At Eternity’s Gate.
Son of hip hop legend Ice Cube, O’Shea Jackson Jr. first entered the acting world in 2015’s Straight Outta Compton, in which he played a young version of his father. He has since appeared in Ingrid Goes West, Den of Thieves, Long Shot, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Just Mercy. Jackson Jr. will appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi as an unnamed character.
Sung Kang will join the Star Wars universe in Obi-Wan Kenobi, playing an as-yet unnamed character. Kang shot to stardom as the suave drifter Han in the Fast & Furious franchise – a character he first played in Justin Lin’s 2002 cult-classic Better Luck Tomorrow. Kang has also appeared in films like Live Free or Die Hard, Ninja Assassin, Bullet to the Head, and Code 8. He will reprise the role of Han in F9: The Fast Saga.
Veteran TV actor Simone Kessell will make her Star Wars debut in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kessell has played numerous roles in film and television since the 1990s, including appearances on shows like Farscape, Xena: Warrior Princess, CSI: Miami, and Fringe. More recently, Kessell played Lt. Alicia Washington in Terra Nova, Queen Ahinoam in Of Kings and Prophets, and Rebecca in The Crossing.
Noted indie filmmaker Benny Safdie – half of the Safdie brothers – will appear as a character in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Safdie is better known for his work behind the camera, having directed both Good Time and Uncut Gems with his brother Joshua, among other projects. Safdie also has a number of acting credits to his name, including appearances in various short films, Pieces of a Woman, Soggy Bottom, and most notably as one of the two leads of Good Time, alongside Robert Pattinson. Safdie’s role in Obi-Wan Kenobi is unknown.
