Valentine’s Day with Din - Headcanons

Though Valentine’s Day’s never been celebrated widely in the galaxy, your homeworld had its own version of it—and this year, you’re feeling particularly motivated to celebrate it somehow.

It’s your first one since leaving your homeworld and you just so happen to be in the company of only two others: Din and Grogu.

You joined the crew of the Razor Crest while looking for work with your background in fixing ships, something you learned from your father. Din happened to cross your path at the perfect time.

You’ve been traveling together for many months, now—long enough to make you feel like a true family. Perhaps even more for one of them.

The holiday coming around becomes the perfect opportunity for you to at least do something about it. You don’t want to make it a big deal, especially since Din isn’t the celebratory type, but you want to be able to do enough to prove your love for them. For him.

For Grogu, you snuck some treats from your last supply run into your personal bag, keeping them tucked away until the morning of.

For Din, you got some materials to fix up his favorite cape, the one he recently had to retire due to its wear. You’ve been working on it at night when you’re alone in your compartment to sew up the holes, reinforce the weaker parts of the material, and whatever else it needs.

The morning of, you set the finished cape into a folded heap on Din’s piloting chair, pleased to see that you’re awake before him. You set a little note on top of it as well.

You greet Grogu and offer the treats, laughing when he squeals and coos with delight and even gives you a little bit of his new treats. You’re so caught up in the joy of the little one that you nearly forget about Din’s gift—until he hops down into the hull and sees this sight.

“I... have to go into the market for some supplies,” Din greets, not saying anything about the gift. You’re about to ask if he wants company when he holds out his gloved hand. “Stay here. You could use some rest.”

Grogu coos happily at the idea of you two getting to stay, but you’re smiling for a very different reason: the new cape’s already fastened over his back.

You play with Grogu while Din’s gone, even trying to help him with some of his training in the way Din often does by lifting the silver ball and letting him take it.

Din returns rather quickly, content upon seeing the two of you together—something that’s obvious even from behind his helmet. You continue to stay with Grogu as Din puts his supplies away, only paying attention to Din again when he offers to take Grogu so you can rest.

After a power nap, you come back to the hull to find it empty. Neither Din nor Grogu are present, though you can hear some of his coos coming from the cockpit. You’re about to join them when something catches your eye.

There’s a bundle on one of the cargo boxes, with a small note containing a scribble of your name. You’re already smiling before you set that aside, unfolding the bundle and realizing it’s the warmer jacket you’ve been mindlessly talking about for ages.

But not only is there that very jacket, but also a small collection of treats from your homeworld, something you’ve only mentioned once at a marketplace.

Last of all is a heart-shaped piece of paper with the printing of Grogu’s little hand, as if he had a part in all of us. For the first time in many spent celebrating this holiday, you feel more loved than you can even fathom.

And the two of you are already preparing to see how you can best each other next year.

This year has been a lot, obviously, and I do think writing fic is one of the few things that really helped to get me through it. It’s tough, and sometimes I get too caught up in comparing myself to other writers and being too self-critical, but for the most part writing these things has been this incredible escape and I’m really happy to be able to share my work with such a wonderful community! Sending so much love to all of you!

Here are my personal favourites from the year:

1. Hold on to these words (Ezra x Reader) - My most self-indulgent fic ever but I love it so much. When Ezra convinces Reader to stay the night, he discovers something she’s been hiding and helps her through it.

2. my loves like the warmth of the sun (Javier Peña x Reader) - It’s early in the morning, and Javier is in love.

3. beneath the moons gaze (Ezra x Reader) - Poetic smut? idk how to describe this I just really enjoyed writing it.

4. San Valentin as a whole, but Saudade specifically (Javier Peña x Reader) - Javier finally admits his insecurities but is it too late?

5. the kind of love you’ve been dreaming of (Marcus Pike x Reader) - The morning after a special day
