thoughts on the Ilia discourse
Ilia, I haven't watched any of his stuff yet. I know I abstained from reviewing Nathan because he's an overscored waste that gets way too much attention.
Ilia, he's young. I'm not saying it absolves him. But it also feels like it doesn't actually change his actions. I mean it's not like he or anyone else reads my reviews.
And then there's Michal Brezina retweeting transphobic stuff. Michal. He's still so sexy. And I've stanned him for YEARS.
I know this is controversial. But please leave your negativity at the door. This is not me dropping the trans community or the LGBTQ community at large. It just feels good to vent.
And I realize now the top part sounds more like me being worried about Ilia reading about me being mean to him then about what he actually said.
What he said is still an issue. But then we have to get into the fact that I still stan a lot of Russians, even supposedly prowar ones like Kolyda and Angelopol.
It's not even that I want to absolve the Russians for their actions. The Russians have been my life since before I can remember. The thought of denouncing them, feels like giving up a good chunk of my emotions about figure skating.
These are my not anywhere close to being organized thoughts. *anticipates snowballs being thrown at them*

Program reveals
I decided to dedicate a post to some special reveals of new programs. Well, special meaning reveals by skaters I like very much or announced programs that made me curious about the music. Some of these reveals also happened kinda “outside” the competition.
Sara Hurtado/Kirill Khaliavin - Beyonce RD I love them. And I think this dance more than fulfils all the requirements. The moves, the energy, everything is there. (I’m not that excited about this season’s RD as a whole but that’s another matter, I’m really trying). They presented this program as guests at Moscow junior open championships. They said in an interview that they wanted to keep their music and programs secret and present them straight out in a competition. I suspected that they didn’t skate the FD there after they found out the RD video made it on YT... And then hieloespanol revealed the next day that their FD is to Led Zeppelin :D Sara has so much energy, it occurred to me that she’s like Madison Chock, no matter how skilled their partners are, the ladies always steal the show. But look at him! Kirill is performing so well.
Mikhail Kolyada - Nutcracker SP This was a reveal in a gala exhibition after a summer camp and Misha appears in the video as a small 3cm figure shot from a weird angle and it’s a work in progress... but it’s Misha and it’s Nutcracker and that’s alll I need 😍
Ashley Caine-Gribble / Tim LeDuc - The White Crow SP  Maybe I shouldn’t say this but if there’s a team or a skater I absolutely cannot connect with in any way it’s them. So, I was shocked to learn they’d use Misha’s sacred music (no really, Misha’s White Crow makes me cry real tears every single time I see it). They were set to debut it at Cranberry Cup but unfortunately Ashley got covid... So, on the day of the comp Jordan Cowan from on ice perspectives presented the video he filmed earlier.  And I’m shocked until now. It looks so good and so natural and it’s just great. One of the main points of the choreography is to show their long long lines and it works so well for this program. Not joining the fanclub yet :p but they certainly do the music justice.
Shoma Uno - Michael Jackson medley Shoma and the many outfits. Shoma and the many programs. He debuted this program in The Ice show and he doesn’t know if he’ll use it as a SP or maybe an exhibition? What I read on Twitter every fan has a different opinion about it :D I’d never thought I’d see Shoma skate to Michael Jackson and here we have moonwalking!Shoma.
But I still can’t get over Oboe exhibition and am hoping against hope that this will be his new SP. (I was unsuccessfully hoping for three years Javi would use his Danny Boy ex - which is the best program in the world, maybe together with The White Crow - as a SP and never got it so “Oboe for SP” is my new project.)
youtube
Angelique Abachkina / Pavel Drozd - Puddit by Al Jarreau / Four seasons  I’ve just randomly came across them because they also skated at the Moscow open championships and because their story is so interesting (and also wt*), so I included them. Angelique is a French-Russian skater, she represented France in juniors but in 2018 she wanted to switch to Russia (who would want to do that? brave soul) to skate with Pavel but the French federation being the French federation didn’t release her. She retired and they released her after three years (I repeat three years!) and she unretired and went to Russia to skate with Pavel in the end.
BONUS: Vasilisa Kaganovskaya / Valeri Angelopol - Ave Maria FD This is not a program reveal because they already presented it at jr. test skates but it’s a costume reveal! And there’s never enough of their skating ;)

2022 Rostelecom finals entry #13
Junior short dance
Kachushkina/Muratov
Thoughts: the choreography was not enough to fix this disaster
Maleina/Rodin
Thoughts: Neckline of Grigory’s shirt was too low
Kaganovskaya/Angelopol
Thoughts: Valery is with Arina now. I hope he knows that she is WAY out of his league. Also, the lookalike dolls. Is that only a Russian thing? Because it’s creepy.
Mamchenkova/Volkov
Thoughts: any finishing pose where the guy looks like he’s trying to climb up her leg. Automatic program killer.
Shcherbakova/Goncharov
Thoughts: Egor, your vest saved the program. Anna, what did you do to your hair?

2022 Russian Junior Nationals entry #15
Junior short dance
Kaganovskaya/Angelopol
Thoughts: Valery had to dig his heels in on that 1st twizzle. And did he get a haircut? Very pretty.
Rybakova/Makhnonosov
Thoughts: how did it take me three sightings of this dress to realize it sheds feathers?! Don’t get me wrong, I still love Ekaterina. It looks like she’s finally gained a little bit of weight. I am all for skaters looking like real people and not twigs. I feel like it’s way past time for that to be explained, being a curvy girl myself.
Kachushkina/Muratov
Thoughts: I’ve said this before about Sofia, her hair keeps getting in her face. But, can we talk about Oleg’s shirt?! The pattern is busy. But he wears it so well. And the contrast with his hair. Oleg, you saved yourself!
Alexova/Vlaimirov
Thoughts: not sure how I feel about the ending. And Ilya, button your shirt

Rostelecom Stage 5 Entry #7
Junior Free Dance
Ovsyankina/Samokhin
Thoughts: there were some not so pretty moments in the choreography but the combination lift was good. Matvey is still a PYT. The SP is still a mess but I admit, I would like to see what would’ve happened if these two got international exposure like the Russians deserve.
Kachushkina/Muratov
Thoughts: Oleg, I know you were trying to hold the aesthetics of this program together, but Sofia’s dress is just too much of an eyesore.
Kaganovskaya/Angelopol
Thoughts: Eek, I thought Valery was going to collapse at the end. These two put so much effort and pizzaz into their lifts.
Khavronina/Chirizano
Thoughts: the ending pose had good chemistry to it, but I still can’t stand these two. They’re showy and it’s hard to find redeemable parts of their choreography.
Senior Free Dance
Voronina/Ivanov
Thoughts: I thought the choreography was getting to be less cringe but then there was that rotational lift at the end. Oh well.
