What about the physical changes from Human to vampire? How do gifts work? (Idk if your vampires have gifts or not).

HOO BOY ALRIGHT LET'S DIG INTO THIS

most notably, vampires can consume a wide variety of beverages, including alcohol. i think i got into the "biology" of this in the fic itself, but basically their bodies just absorb liquids the same way they do blood, it's silly vampire magic, it doesn't matter

all of stephenie's stupid and racist skin bleaching stuff is gone, and they get to keep their freckles/tattoos/etc

in canon i think vamps can only get scarred from vamp bites? but i expanded that a little to include claw marks from other vamps + scars from werewolves (of both the shifter and lycanthrope variety, since my version of caius is covered in werewolf scars)

most of the stuff about how vampires work in general is the same as canon! they're nigh invincible crystalline monsters who sparkle and shimmer in the sun and crack like statues when they get hurt, and you can only kill them by tearing them apart and setting them on fire

HOWEVER my vampires are MUCH more monstrous than in canon. i think twilight vamps have the ability to be quite scary if they want, but in my fic i really wanted to play up the idea of them being mythical apex predators. as such, they have a sort of "aura" about them that the cullens are always actively repressing. it allows them to be both incredibly alluring but also unsettling, causing a "terrified but drawn in" effect in most humans - it's a red flag, but also a lure. bella is completely immune to it, which would be a terrible thing for her if she was in any other situation

following that up, vampires who let themselves stay in this "natural" state can tend to be a lot more animalistic, which is definitely something present in canon but i wanted to amp it up a little more. the vampires are very much inhuman and monstrous, and the cullens are putting in work every day to not appear that way

i've also given vampires a much more intense "soulmate connection" that's pretty much exactly the same as canon imprinting. this is just because i wanted my fic to be a twist on the typical soulmate trope where the concept of "love at first sight" is kind of terrifying and inconvenient! i really just played up hints of things that were already in canon, like the fact that denying the bond is... unpleasant for both parties

at the same time, i also wanted to emphasize platonic and familial relationships, so i included the idea that vampires can have more than one "soulmate" and will often have very strong non-romantic bonds with others (though these are less apparent to them at first). this is why the cullens are drawn to be a family, but also why bella and edward are such good friends! they're literally platonic soulmate besties. i love a brotp

i think another related thing i hinted at somewhere is that if a vampire has a human soulmate, that human will slowly begin to gain some vampiric traits (slow aging, increased strength, etc) no matter whether they're bitten or not. bonds are incredibly powerful things in my au, and they're capable of enacting physical change - albeit very slowly

there's also the idea of vampire science and experimentation, of course. most of it has to do with testing out the effects of venom on various types of beings in different states. this is how i wound up with things like ghouls, who are essentially just much weaker, feral vampires (almost like zombies). they, in turn, spread through a different kind of bite-induced infection that causes a rot, which is how bella ends up in her strange state of slow-turning undeath after she gets bitten by a ghoul and rosalie

turning and gifts are pretty much the same! the change takes 3 days under normal circumstances and it's super painful. gifts are accentuated traits from your human life (or amped up versions of proto-gifts, as in alice's case)

i think the last big difference is the idea that vampires are capable of growth and change (not physically, but mentally). if you read the fic, the characters will often talk about how they're incapable of changing due to their nature, but their actions throughout the story definitely contradict this! the vampires aren't perfect and they have issues they have to work through, and they sometimes use their nature as an excuse not to work on themselves - but they're absolutely capable of change

the tl;dr here is mostly that i wanted vampires to be able to drink, i wanted them to be a lot more monstrous, and i wanted there to be a little more mysterious magic at play! i think that the canon twilight vampires are pretty cool, but i also think that stephenie went to weird lengths to explain everything about them, and sometimes it's better to just be like "it's magic lol".

also you didn't ask but my werewolves are different as well! i've never found a good way to actually drop this in the fic yet, but the shapeshifter-type wolves are NOT a phenomenon exclusive to the quileute tribe. there are a bunch of other packs around the world! it's still a genetic thing that gets passed down through families, but it's widespread because in my lore it originated from twilight's other elusive werewolves, the children of the moon. essentially, it's a defense mechanism that evolved in some lycanthropes over time since it was beneficial for humans to be able to protect themselves against vampires. maybe some day i'll figure out how to write that into the fic itself lmao

I know you might tell me to write the fic, and I’m going to, but I need some advice. If there was a Les Mis AU with Twilight characters, which Cullen/vamp/other would you have fill in for every Les Mis character? (I know Carlisle is Jean Valjean, but other than that.)

But seriously, you have to write the fic. I can give you answers, but they won't be what you want and it has to be something that comes from you to really write it well.

As it is, the characters are very different people who lead very different lives.

Both Valjean and Carlisle are very religious characters, but Valjean is a very complicated man with extreme differences from Carlisle.

Edward certainly wants to be like Marius, a sensitive intellectual and romantic who believes in higher ideals like the rights of the people and revolution. However, Edward is not Marius and simply tries to convince himself that he is Marius. (For all Marius also gets weirdly obsessive and stalkerish about Cosette).

Bella and Cosette are both airheads, but in different ways. Notably, in the book, Cosette forgets about Marius (the epic love of her life) for several months when he's off screen. Bella, when Edward's off screen, implodes.

Caius is too... brutal and self-aware to be Javert, in that he's a brute and he's well aware of it. He upholds the law, yes, but doesn't seem as obsessive as Javert is nor seems to cling to it as his identity and purpose in this cruel world.

So you get similarities if you squint, but not really enough to smash them in place and have nothing change. Were it me, I'd write an AU in the time period, but that's probably not what you're looking for.

“I suppose, in keeping with the theme of our first dates, I should probably confess something to you.” Edward's smoldering amber eyes captured mine. “Isabella, I and my family are vampires.”

I feigned a gasp of surprise.

“What a coincidence,” I said. “I’m a vampire slayer.”

“I’ve killed. I’ve stolen. I’ve cheated. I’ve lied.”

“Me too. Except the stealing and the cheating.”

“Yes, but you’re a terrible liar, so the latter doesn’t count, either.”

I sipped my Coke. “The Volturi didn’t seem to think I was a terrible liar.”

After a beat, Edward burst into laughter.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this lightheartedness from him - another change of Edward’s during our separation, I supposed - but it set a grin on my face.

“How very sexy of you,” he purred.

“I know you’re a sucker for women who break the law.”

“I’m a sucker in general.”

My turn to laugh. “Good one.” He winked. “Y’know, all things considered, this night turned out better than I thought.”

“Seeing as how you stayed through the appetizers this time, I’m inclined to agree.”

Blushing, I glanced down at my remaining tacos. “In keeping with the theme of our first dates, does this mean I get to ask questions?”

Poking the ice cubes in my Coke with my straw, I brightened. “You started playing violin?”

“Part of my emergency preparedness plan. If I ever need to challenge the devil to a fiddle contest in exchange for a soul, I need to be able to play something more advanced than ‘Hot Cross Buns.’ More importantly, performing has been helping me retrain my gift.” He paused. “Oh. i am very slowly working on updates to three of my published fics:

the truth of it, an au ending to new moon (alternatively titled 'bella jacob therapy speedrun' bc i love making characters talk about bella jumping off a cliff and harry clearwater dying)

as the ring on my cold finger, a bella-runs-away-at-the-wedding fic (that has currently stalled out just a teeeny bit because of the fact that bella has promised the volturi she will become a vampire & i can't imagine them taking 'what if i pinky promise not to tell anyone' as a reason to leave her human; i am currently brainstorming a very convoluted plotline about her faking her death to get around it, but oof.)

The attack had turned out bad, apparently Peter and Aro hadn't planned everything down to a T like they had thought. They had slipped up somewhere, and Aro wanted to put the blame on Peter, but he suspected this might have been an inside job, sabotage.

His human was smart, he would know better than to betray him, but there were those in the coven who didn't like that Aro had a 'human pet' of sorts as a lover, one with a strange, natural immunity to any vampire's gift.

It was possible someone in Aro's coven has sent word to this clan leader, a heads up that they were coming to take the leader out.

And now Aro found himself in the hands of a vampire whose power was immense strength, stronger than even Aro himself, which was impressive. This man must have been a very powerful man when he had been a human, and now he was using it against Aro, trying to crush him to death.

A simple decapitation would have more dignity, Aro thought as he felt pain in his body, he feared his body might crack. But being crushed between two, large, meaty hands by a vampire of a lower rank than him... oh, that was just cruel!

It was almost frightening to be in a position where Aro didn't have the upper hand, especially because his own gift was useless, what would he even gain from reading this man's memories?

Aro wheezed, fuck, he swore he heard something snap, and sharp pain shot up his trapped arm. He could hear someone shout his name, was it Peter?

The hunter was busy with the lower ranked vampires, his hunting skills had vastly improved, he was actually a threat to Aro's kind now. He wondered if Peter had a moment to help Aro out, though if he was saved by a human...

Oh, which was more embarrassing, death by crushing by some lomux of a vampire, or being saved by a human?

Suddenly, the crushing vice grip around him eased up and Aro gasped, though he didn't need air, an unconscious action. He looked, seeing that the vampire was confused, and that Peter was now there, his arms tightly around the vampire's waist.

"What?" He heard the leader said, surprised that his strength seemed to have drained, his grip was like that of a sickly human's.

Aro easily stepped away from the vampire, only to move forward and grab him by the head, and with one twist, the head flew right off, landing somewhere in the room.

Peter released the body and it crumpled to the floor. The human was panting, looking to be running on adrenaline, covered in blood and scratches, but seemed fine. Aro noticed that the remaining vampires had been dealt with, the ones Aro hadn't killed himself.

He was surprised, Peter had taken on five vampires on his own before...

"You saved me." Aro said, shocked by his admission.

Peter ran a hand through his messy hair, looking embarrassed. "Yeah, well... I wasn't gonna let some musclehead be the death of you, Aro. Wouldn't be good for your reputation, 'n stuff..."

Aro stepped around the body on the floor, lifting Peter's chin, before kissing him on the lips. "Thank you." He said against the human's mouth. "You have done well today, my dear."

His freckles cheeks were red from more than just exertion now. "Don't get sappy on me now, vamp, it's beneath you."

"If you say so." Aro smiled. "But again, thank you."

"Ngk... it's weird, stop thanking me."

"Well then, I shall stop saying it, but I will show you my gratitude later." Aro said, kissing him on the cheek.

edward cullen - i use tvd lore for him but he's still the same weird, lurking, bougie asshole. and i think it would be fun to throw him into actual problems like the mikaelsons deal with instead of angsting over bella

isabella townsend - she's a knight who's hiding her lycanthropy, basically a period-based muse, so it would be fun to do something in leah's past and create a story there with them! isabella doesn't know of the existence of vampires, and only knows she's a werewolf because of her turn and was never informed of anything about it

spike - freya would literally throw this man around and he would deserve it, and i kinda need that in my life

sister yasmine - i literally have no ideas for these two i just think the vibes would be hilarious

vivian bluit - jumping off of ace's thing about mak, these two are connected in that vivian was trained to kill all witches by her sire and is the result of mak being the last one who can commune with ancestors. she doesn't necessarily want to be this person and has since escaped her sire. i think it'd be fun to throw in vivian trying to find mak and freya roadblocking it hard and doing a crash course in How To Be a Semi Nice Vampire ( but it's also freya and we know her family so how beneficial would that really be sdklfjsdfjsdf )

Hi! How are you? I hope it's been good, I got a question for how you headcanon Bella's mental shield acting, is it more close to canon/books in a way that it's defensive or do you make it more offensive in your au.

Also, since it's canon that two vampires can have the same ability but it manifests itself completely different... How would you see another mental shield acting opposed to Bella's mental shield.

Bella's shield in my au is a little more...mobile?

Specifically, she actually begins experiencing things as a reaction to her shield while human, signifigantly after her 'clinical death' at the end of Moirai. (I figured if Alice can, why not Bella?) and later on when she starts to experience 'The Trauma's' in Clotho. I have an amazing scene written for Clotho that I haven't posted because I can't write the shit around it, SOMEDAY. While human, this FUCKS with Bella, like, constant nosebleeds, lightbulbs popping, seizures, migraines, body aches, weakness, her human brain just can't handle it, and eventually, it leads to an aneurism. Edward turns her during/after that.

AFTER vampirism, I write it much more like telekenesis, I call them 'bubbles' because I imagine her being able to wrap her shield around things and lift them. (Weight limits do apply) She actually does still experience 'headaches' if she pushes herself too hard, and it can drain her of energy in the way that she needs to feed way more often than a normal vampire if she's been pushing herself. As she gets, well, emptier, her powers get weaker. They have not experimented with what human blood would do to her powers, but she and Carlisle are being very fucking creepy about it and will absolutely experiment at SOME point.

I like the idea of her crushing an enemy vamp to powder in one of her bubbles.

She has successfully lifted emmett with her brain. He lost his goddamn mind.

For your second question, thats fascinating. I think there are a lot of really cool options! Esp. a shield in response to Bellas. I like the idea of it being a little more offense, but what if a vamp had not only a brain shield but an identity shield? a vampire where if you stare too long your brain starts to make things nonsensical, like derealization. It's very protective because no one actually knows what they look like, some ppl don't even think they're real. But they CAN turn it off. If Bella can't percieve it, how can she bubble it? idk, I love this stuff. Feel free to Dm me if you wanna chat about it.)

Fictional!Matty is just having the time of his life (ha!) being a vampire, he feels good! He doesn't hurt anymore! He's not dying anymore! He gets to be with Fictional!George forever! Do you use occults? What would the Carters be [if you've thought about it]?

Ohhhhh yes, I actually have always enjoyed the occult aspect of the Sims because it adds some much needed lore to the universe! Unfortunately the Carter’s story only touches base on these things in very small ways, and there aren’t any major characters/plotlines revolving around occults. However...

I've thought a lot about your question (sorry I'm just responding!) and I can definitively say that in an "AU" situation where the whole family were occults, the Carters would be vampires... but like, the very ancient, very deep bloodline kind that have evolved and can partake in a handful of "human" activities. They would try to blend into human society as much as possible, be able to go out during the day time (with the proper precautions), and the kids would all have vastly different views of humans as a whole. They would be the kind of vamps who refuse to feed from any human without consent: in my lore, there are humans willing to give blood or be fed on, and of course there are blood bags available, which isn't fresh but does the trick just fine. The Carters don’t really practice direct drinking from humans though. Anyway, Vlad/Caleb/Lilith and all the other vamps definitely still exist in that AU, and Bella Goth and her kids are knee-deep in the knowledge of all the occult stuff both in the AU and in canon (it’s Bella’s thing, she loves the supernatural and unusual).

But just fun, I also thought about what occults the Carter kids would be based on their personality, as opposed to what the family as a whole would be.

Addison - Still a vampire! Caleb - Also still a vampire Cory - Alien Peyton - Werewolf Paisley - Spellcaster/Witch Cheryl - A Nymph (specifically a flower nymph, a plant-sim if we are sticking purely to the Sims lore)

Normally I’d do a “bonus” for Alexander Goth, but I really can’t see him being any kind of occult! But if we were to talk about greek mythology/the classics, I have a whole head-canon for him (and some other characters as well).
