The blinker stares at me accusingly.
You are not a surgeon it says, you are a butcher. You don’t know where to cut, where to bleed, where to stop.
In an episode of madness it begins to talk, it says, “You cannot do this,” its words slither with poison, “there is no finesse in your work, no.”
It blinks several times on the page.
“No, the words are there, but you are not a surgeon, you bludgeon and break. This is no poetry. This is a murder scene.”
I take its words, I take them in and slowly dissect them.
Slowly it dies.
The blinker falls silent.
It is true, I bludgeon, break and cut, I bleed it off.
But that’s editing. It’s not surgical. It’s merciless.
I’m not a surgeon. I’m a butcher, a murderer, an assassin.
Slowly my old mistakes die. Making my story, the world inside the page…
Better.
Until the murder scene is pristine and clean, like it was always supposed to be.

Last Line Tag
Picking up an open tag from @winterandwords that ended up on my dash this morning courtesy of @tabswrites and figured since i did write a few lines yesterday (on The Thing I Should Not Be Writing aka Unspoken) might as well launch into the project of catching up on writeblr things and summerfest with that mildly spicy snippet.
“Then there is a truth still to be learned, oh my radiant surazhnavi,” he said, drawing out the syllables of the trade tongue and his own as he teased her lips with his, lending the words a pleasant music as he pressed his weight heavier into the alcove cushions, as he kneaded her bare thigh with his off hand, as he flexed his thigh against her, his silks trapped between them. He grinned, breath hitching in a soft and wry amusement. “Perhaps for us both, as I cannot mourn any cause that brings your radiant fire to my bed again.”

Ekphrastic Fiction Contest Winner (November 2021)
The winner for this month’s contest is...Van R.G. @vanrambling ! Congratulations! This writer is pretty active on Tumblr and has some WIP information up, so if you enjoy the story below, I hope you’ll take the time to visit this blog.
As a reminder, the art work for this month’s contest was created by @dorothywonderland, and is titled, “ Don’t stop believin’ by Journey but make it spooky .” If you like this piece, you can visit this page to see more original art work! I will also post some Honorable mentions later today.
There was a time humans used to ride these things. Or at least that’s what they told us in school, an ancient civilization, just a stop away in our evolution.
But just like humans became extinct. It feels like our last stop is just minutes away.
What is the point of making an effort in the endless sea?
A sigh escapes from my gills, making bubbles that float around; they burst and remind me to keep my wits and determination.
The point is to keep trying. No matter the mistakes of the past.
The metallic voice recorded even before I was born echoes through the speakers.
Next stop. College campus of mermanities.
I will keep on trying. No matter what happens next, I will keep trying to make a difference so we don’t end up like the humans did.

Tagged by @maggie-wolff-writes in this really unique game! This was a lot of fun. I’ll be writing as Zora about Tal (Brightest Day).

Talyeni Hunter here. My friends and I went on this quest to rescue my ex’s niece, and we ended up getting really lost in the mountains and nearly died. This guy (28M) and his group rescued us and gave us medical help, but then they totally kept us in separate rooms and interrogated us like we were criminals, just because we happened to stumble on their secret civilization! It was a complete accident, but they didn’t care. So I knocked the lead guy down and broke a cup and threatened to cut him if he didn’t take me to my friends (even though he was pretty cute, imho). Am I the asshole?

In lieu of the fact that I can't keep track of who’s writing what anymore here’s a game. I’ll start!

What’s the title and give us an honest title?
Of Blood and Roses Or Diamond Girl and Dracula: Toxic Couple
A slightly sarcastic summary:
So this angel, Rosaline fell in love with Dracula but he hates her, so she turns herself into a vampire thinking that will solve things. But surprise! That doesn’t work DUH! So then a mountain falls on her, because reasons, but she’s pretty much indestructible so she stays buried for 400 years and when she comes back she goes Dracula hunting and finds that he became a vampire hunter in England. Sooo she decides she’s going to be a vampire hunter too. Also, she kind of had the mission to save Dracula’s soul or something, by teaching him to love, but that’s not really important. ;)
