A short preview of the Romeo and Cinderella MV cover featuring Kohaku Aoki and Galvan Ize that I was working on. I am already more than halfway finished with the editing process so I think I can definitely post this by February 14 as a Valentine special.
I've been single muming it for a few days, so I did what any sane person would and treated myself to a dozen wavetable LFO's in VCV rack to make a four voice droney ambient thing after the wee one was in bed.
Used very simple modules, am particularly impressed with how the fourth voice has portamento created by modulating the position control of the LFO very slightly at audio rates. Nice job, me! (Thanks me!)
You want to learn how to make/use modular synthesizers?
Boy, do I have the tool for you!
Through my hyperfixation on those a few weeks back I found out that 1) those fuckers are fucking expensive and 2) if you don't know what which do and don't have the right tools on the side you won't be able to do anything and lose a lot of money
The solution to those problems is...
VCV Rack 2
VCV Rack 2 is a free eurorack system that allows you to mount whatever modular synthesizer rack you want. It not only has a free (and very complete) version (a pro version exists too though) but it has a wide library!
You start with the VCV Rack library, which actually is good enough to start, but you can (and should) also add anything from the library that you want.
I just checked as I am writing and there are "2,494 modules found" in the free category. Yes, yes, you read that right.
To be able to add modules to your VCV Rack, however, you'll need to make an account, but that is just to link the module/brand you added/subscribed to the program you installed.
You also have to add/subscribe first, then go to VCV to update the modules. Updating them will lead to the program closing, so if you're following along a video, look at which modules/brands are used so you don't have to leave and come back during the follow-along.
Installing VCV Rack is really easy, you just need to go on the website and select the version you want!
And the library is here!
In order to understand VCV Rack a bit better and do your first racks, I made a small playlist made out of the four 30-50 minute long videos from Red Means Recording, and one video from Omri Cohen.
I really like what Red Means Recording does, but it's not just VCV. Omri Cohen has a lot more VCV stuff though.
Here is the link.

I also suggest this video by Andrew Huang to understand what is modular synthesis.

Finally, to understand what does which thing in modular synthesis, you can check out this cool lesson with which you can interact! (by Ableton) (also check your sound volume haha, don't destroy your ears)
You also have a nice little playground to test what you've learned!

I am only starting all that and understand only a fragment of modular synthesis, so if you have more videos and guides, hit me up so I can add them (and even make a masterpost?)
Also (and especially) if you have guides and explanations and follow-along videos made by trans people, TELL ME!
As per tradition with the month’s posts, I shall now make a post featuring the lucky (or rather only) submission for the blog’s theme.

Beth (ベス) is an UTAU created by mi (巳早). They are a VCV voicebank, being tripitch. Their voice, if I could describe it, seems to be smooth and gentle, but doesn’t delve into the more whispery parts when it comes to voice tones. The voice is feminine, around midrange I’d say.
Other than finding out that Beth’s gender is either unknown or nonexistent, I was unable to find any further information on the UTAU. If more information is found, this post will be updated. Other mod here with updated info! Beth has an unknown age and uncategorized/nonexistent gender. They like fruit, but they don’t actually need to eat to live. It’s unknown how long Beth’s lifespan is.
This page seems to hold more information regarding Beth.

About: Teto is undoubtably the most well known UTAU. She was originally made as an April Fools joke, as she was presented as an upcoming VOCALOID voicebank.
Teto is a Chimera, a Greek mythilogical creature. In Teto’s Chimera form, she grows pink dragon-like wings and her belt becomes a tail. She is usually portrayed as being cheerful, eager, and mischievous.

My UTAU, Kohaku Aoki VCV voicebank is still a work in progress but I can at least hear her sing in the background and have a good view of what she sounds like compared to her CV. I kinda recorded her a little lower than her CV so she sounds a little different in lower notes but still captures my voice just fine.
She also got a design update! (shown below, I will show the whole character sheet when her VCV is out). People can still use her old outfit if they ever wanna draw her. I just want her to have something that she can wear if she's ever featured on stage aka illustrations with stage as a background. I always thought that her current outfit is too simple and casual especially when the featured song is too upbeat and idolish for her current get up.
Usually when I do something with a beat, it's totally by accident. This turned out ok I guess.
Idk if that's even the "correct" way of doing it (bottom left stuff) but it works for me. Clock with divisions into short signal delays then mixed into one signal. Everything sidechained like fuck.
