Tempah Bacon???
Ok, so, hear me out.
I've been having a craving for a BLT for like... a month. I never liked BLTs before because I hated mayo. It's stupid, is what it is. With two o's. Stoopid.
I've been determined. So, I got some tempah strips and got the smokey bacon ones. Internet says not to get pre flavored, and I say "who cares"!
I think, I've gotten the flavor down, at least! But this post is going to be where I put down my experiments with it lol.
I created a marinade. I'm super impatient and wanted to try it NOW, so IDK how it tastes when it's marinated longer than 5 minutes lol.
Soy sauce
Maple syrup (so much)
paprika
onion powder
maple pepper (I live in the northeast US, we love our syrup, leave me alone)
salt
apple cider vinegar
I added sesame oil to the latest batch and it was?? not noticeable TBH
So, last night, I fried two strips broken in half on my pan in some oil. I'm trying to get it crispy, like bacon.
Roommate and I came to the conclusion that the texture and consistency was way off, but the taste was p good. I tried air frying it after, but that .... didn't really do too much? Dried it out a bit more, which was good.
I tried again earlier this morning, and tried baking it. Ten/fifteen minutes on each side at around 350? It was definitely firmer! I could deal with it, and made a breakfast sandwich.
I'm going to try and add some bacon bits, I think? Or try to find a different food base? IDK, this is my adventure to eating a BLT.
