A thank you to vegans on tumblr
I see a majority of anti-vegan posts/videos on other social media sites whenever I search 'vegan', all that negativity makes me sad and it starts to affect my mental health. But here on tumblr I know I can find and easily interact with other vegans who share my love of animals and/or the environment, increasing my mood and making me feel better🤗
Even if I don't interact with a post directly, just seeing a post about how animals should be treated with kindness makes my day brighter

Yesterday I saw a really wholesome interaction in the cafe I work at. A lady came in with her son and asked for milk with her coffee, I explained to her that it was a vegan cafe so we only had plant milks. She ordered a coffee for herself and a strawberry cupcake for him, then she began explaining to her kid what being vegan means, what kind of food vegans eat and together they listed the plant milks vegans could drink.
It was just so sweet and lovely seeing a mother being so open with her child about veganism and letting him be aware of other options :,)

Vegans, who
don't love animals
have dietary restrictions
are allergic to animals
have little to no empathy
can't participate in street activism
don't have the energy to cook due to disability or chronic illness
have unhealthy comfort/safe foods
experience disordered eating
have to work in animal abusing industries
think they're not vegan enough or doing enough:
you are amazing. We feel for you. You are not forgotten. Keep being you and doing your best for the animals!

vegetarians (clean, moral, upper caste) are lynching people for eating beef (unclean, degenerate, muslim or dalit) as part of the hindutva fascist project ongoing in india. im not sure a focus on food habits is a political project that is necessarily oriented in justice and unless you reckon with that in the west you are not actually equipped to defend your movement from reactionaries.

“I have been vegan for 10 years now and a powerlifter for four years. It is so great to be able to continue to break down misconceptions around this lifestyle and show people that you can be strong AND vegan!”

I just realized I have been doing both dieting and exercising - I went vegan 2 years ago and I've been walking miles every day for work, up and down hills - and I still eat the same amounts of food I used to eat before all this (even less because I literally have less time to eat now), yet I haven't lost ONE kg. Oh no! A fat person just proved that dieting and exercising won't always work to lose this demonic mass of fat! Quick fatphobes, get all the successful weight loss stories and blame the fat person's "failure" on something else!

Whenever one of my friends considers going vegan or asking for vegan advice on things and they come to me for it I get so filled with joy that they think of me as that friend

Hey as vegan leftists we need to be louder about what we stand for. A non-vegan mutual on my main posted about veganism being a pipeline to ecofash and. I did not want to reblog the post itself but honestly there were so many assumptions there.
Like I want a systems change! I want justice for every human and non-human animal that was hurt by this, from slaughterhouse workers to animals killed for meat to the loss of biodiversity from the monocrops grown for the animal’s food.
And contrary to popular belief I do NOT want to start by saying “oh anyone should go vegan!” and “forcing my diet on people”. I want to start by making people look the animal ag industry in the fucking face and seeing what they’re supporting with ANY meat except what they killed and processed themselves, YES even “family farms” and “organic meat”. I do not even feel like touching sustenance hunting until we have reformed the animal ag industry.
My concern is for the animals bc they cannot tell you what they’re facing. My concern for the people is lifting up the voices of those harmed worse by the animal ag industry which is people of color, poor communities, indigenous communities, immigrant workers, disabled people, and apparently child workers.
If you think vegans are a step to eco fash that says more about who you hang around, not what vegans stand for

honestly, veganism can feel so empowering. there is an evil system, but you can just choose to opt out of it as far as possible. you don’t have to partake in it. you can go your own way.
and maybe later you can try to do the same with other systems of opression. boycott can be so freeing 💖🌱

Autistic people with so much empathy towards the animals that they feel like they're going to explode are so valid. I love you.
Autistic people with little to no empathy who just respect the right to live for all animals, I love you too.
And everyone in between, you're not forgotten either.

based on one of your recent posts should i still be vegetarian especially if I was born into it?
you can do whatever you want forever!
the tags clearly said the vegetarianism that you were born into bc of your caste position isn't about animal liberation. im also extremely skeptical of any politics that centres personal choice instead of political and economic changes in meat production. anti meat taboos and the social censure of meat eaters in india is basically just an avenue to lynch and discriminate against dalits and muslims. your politics must be one that engages with that material reality, of living in a hindu fascist state where the politics that center anti meat food habits esp through the lens of personal moral goodness and purity are a reactionary force. your vegetarianism and/or veganism should remain a personal choice, that you make about your own body but the politics of what that represents is located in a highly specific context and its presentation.
