How do I explain what's wrong when it's so hard to tell? But there's something very off model with the designs and expressions. The eyes have almost too much in the way of eyelids? They're too big? I don't know. But here's some older VT where you can really see, just from these random screengrabs, how genuine the expressions are even for small moments.

Now look again at these "expressive" takes from the new eps:

also Junior straight up smiling here? like there's NO reason for him to smile like that? Madame is yelling at him for killing her plant and he acts scared, but then Petunia just says a basic ass "I think there's a lesson to be learned" line and within seconds of her starting the sentence he smiles?? from his D: face to c: within half a sec. And when she's explaining what happened to her plant, how Junior killed it, she's smiling then too?

"And now look at it! :D"

I am so confused by these expressions?

Someone with better wordiage than I'm capable of rn got a way to verbalize exactly what feels so... off? I'm glad we got some new VT back to "classic" feel, but what is it that's bartlebothering my brain here?

Today's daily is about the fourth episode of VeggieTales, Rack, Shack, and Benny, which came out in late 1995!

Nebbie K. Nezzer (more politely known as Mr. Nezzer) makes his debut in this episode! His voice is based on Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Oogie being played by a Black man (Ken Page), this makes Nezzer canonically Black-coded. Years later on The VeggieTales Show, Phil Vischer would give the role of Nezzer to David Mann in an attempt to be more racially sensitive.

Mr. Lunt also makes his first appearance here! He's based off the weasels from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.
