Vegposting Journal:. 16/5/20

Busy day in the garden today, re-potted my brassicas -they need to get a little bigger before I plant them out, and they’ll do that faster in pot of their own. I also repotted my sweetcorn, I’m going to try and go to the garden centre (very exciting!) and get some more since fertilisation will be a bit tricky with the one plant.

My pumpkins, squash and courgettes were all looking very healthy and vigorous, so I took a risk and planted them straight out. Weeded out the areas around them and then ended up in a bind weed, weeding hole and didn’t emerge for an hour.

Finished up, by planting some seeds with a little help from Tabby. And as I passed by the pond, I spotted a visitor! Our first frog!

Vegposting Journal 3/5/20

Been busy in the garden the past few days. Planted my lettuce outside since it’s getting pretty big. Potted up my peppers, not sure if I’ll pot them up again as this variety don’t get too big. Also added more soil to my tomatoes, they’re flowering already! And I finally planted my shallots! Having had them since like February, it was exciting to actually plant them.

Vegposting Journal: 28/4/20

A little compilation of photos I took in the garden this week. I pulled up my first raddish, a bit small I need to leave them a touch longer. I’m planning to pickle them so I want them as big as possible without being woody. All my plants are doing great and my tomatoes have flowers!

Also planted some soy beans with a little help from Tabby.

Vegposting Journal 18/4/20

Weather has finally broken, been rather grey and miserable today. Spent some time in the greenhouse, my tomatoes are getting pretty big so I added a few new ties and pinched out the side shoots.

Can’t quite believe it but all the seeds I planted on the 12th have got a move on already! Also the sweetcorn has finally decided to make a move, I really thought those seeds were duds but clearly not!

And one final thing, while pulling up bind weed (yep it’s even in the greenhouse) I found this tiny skull. I think it’s from a newt, it’s about a centimetre long and in great nick for such a tiny skull.

Vegposting Journal: 7/4/20

Just a few quick garden updates with the pictures I have! Today my mum emptied our second compost bin for the first time in a few years, to make more space for our waste (can’t do anymore gardening till that’s sorted). The broad beans are being hardened off, will probably go in the bed on the weekend. Also, we put in a pond! I’ll make a proper post about it once all the landscaping is done and we have the plants and stuff going.

My dumbass forgot to take the propagator lids off and my seedlings got burnt :( I’ve moved them to the same tray as the beans so this won’t happen again. Left the potatoes in the greenhouse to chit, they’re nearly there so hopefully I’ll be planting them soon

Quick garden update! I’m doing well and getting on in the garden. Spent today clearing some brambles and over grown oregano. They’ve stopped collecting the brown bin, so I’m collecting up stuff I can’t compost to burn on Thursday.

Hope you’re all doing well and making the most of this lovely weather!

Happy mother’s day! Today has been rather surreal, but otherwise a lovely day sunny and warm! The kale (purple) and the Brussel sprouts (green) have germinated and I’ve planted some salad greens (big black pot)

Tomatoes are big enough for the windowsill now, they’re a little bit leggy but nothing some good old fashioned sunshine can’t sort.

Left the peppers in the airing cupboard, they usually take a little longer to germinate (the trick now is to not forget about them!).

Veg posting journal entry 2. 14/2/20

Spent an hour or so pottering about in the garden cleaning up the damage from Storm Ciara. To say how windy it was the damage really was quite light, one of the lavenders got blown about but nothing worse than that. Pictures: a little mushroom growing in the base of one of the patio pots, some snowdrops, the Hebe ft the winter jasmine.

Veg posting journal entry 1. 7/2/20

Got started on the beds today, started by weeding and digging the beds. Dug up a lot of bind weed roots, honestly I wish theydid something useful because they’re just fantastic at growing. Found a lovely fungus growing on one of my beds, they are prone to a little mold but the boards are thick enough to withstand it. Once they were dug over I collected some compost from my bin and added it to the beds. I only had enough black stuff to cover two of my beds, I might buy some more or leave the other bed open as a little experiment.

Wish I’d taken more pictures as it was a lovely day and I was closely supervised by both assistant gardeners. Didn’t see our robin though, maybe he was busy today.

Hey guys!

Firstly, thankyou for 800 followers! (Nearly 900 now!!!!). Secondly it’s outdoor gardening time! The cabin fever has finally kicked in so I’ve started planning for the garden. Will be journaling it on here with the tag #Vegposting so you can do what you will with that! First post will be up tomorrow (ish?).

So that’s that!
