I am so very sorry to drop this on your lap, I wasn't sure where else to go. You don't have to respond to this!
Help. I have adopted Lotor as my blorbo-in-law.
I have never seen VLD and I never plan to.
But I saw all the posts about how he deserved better and I was like, “hell yeah he did!”
And well...
I have a tendency—
A propensity, if you will.
To try and make an AU whenever I see a character that deserved better.
I have not seen VLD, except for that One (1) episode where Ven'tar appeared. I have read several fic however, including your works. They made me fall in love with Ven'tar too 😭
She is my bug baby and I will fistfight anyone who even looks her funny.
And now, with zero knowledge about the franchise I have made an AU with a Lotor/OC/Ven'tar polycule with Ven'tar's people being saved, they lead a rebel organization which works to preserve all the culture of the colonized planets and folk that would've been lost otherwise.
OC and Ven'tar? Plant-lover and diplomacy buddies!
OC and Lotor? Chronic pain and half-blood and abuse victim buddies!
Lotor and Ven'tar? Worthy leader buddies!
I am so very sorry to dump this all on you but I needed to get this off my chest 😭
Anon, if there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that I am a Lotor fan second only on the scale to AJ Locascio, the man who voices Lotor. There will never be a time when I don’t wish to discuss him or swoon over him or make him the happiest character to ever exist in the fanon world.
And for the love of god, do not ever watch VLD. Stick with Lotor clips only, the not traumatizing ones of course. No other main character in the series deserves your attention.
As for Ven’tar, I personally feel that even her couple minutes in the show and her one line could be seen as very important when it comes to Lotor. With the exception of his cat, she is literally the only character who didn’t hurt him. And so I say, once again, fuck all the other characters, especially all the main ones who are all guilty of murdering him.
One of the best times in my fandom life, if not THE best, was when my fellow Ventor shippers and I created this whole entire au/life/planet for them and their family. I still think of the Ventor kids fondly and really miss those times. It really healed the tremendous hurt I felt after becoming ex-Lotura
Never be sorry to dump anything Lotor or Ventor related to me. Unfortunately I’m not into polycules, but if you make my prince happy, that’s all I ever really want and I support you! 😄💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Hi, it's me again! The anon that hates Allura.
I've been reading your blog once again and thinking about Voltron and how it was made and realized that I don't REALLY hate Allura? It actually feels as if I'm disappointed that she was like that.
Her character was actually interesting. A girl that has lost her whole home in one second wakes up after years of slumber with the knowledge nothing is ever going to be the same.
But the thing that annoys me is that she FEELS flat to me. The only person she has ever talked about was her Dad and only he. It's possible because her mom died early in her life but what about the old paladins? The only time I remember jer talking about them, her father's BEST FRIENDS, was when they weren't yes Paladins and about their demise.
Plus, shouldn't she have MORE conflicting feelings about galrans? Hating them? Yes, ut at the same time, they were close to her people, mayby not that close but she still must have learnt about them. Why was she NEVER shown thinking about the "good old days" with uncle Zarkon?
One of the things that still I still hate is how she's acting towards galrans. Yeah, most of them are assholes but there are still those that are GOOD. But no, your skin is purple, and you're a galra? You're evil. And even Lotor was liked by Allura because of his altran origins. The moment someone said he might have done something BAD? Allura is angry at him! Because she knew, she KNEW she shouldn't have trusted a galra!
Amd her powers! They are so cool! Amazing! I would have loved to learn more about them but no! She's just a glorified battery for the space ship! And the OTHER powers she awakens? Never seen again!
For some reason I feel as if the show tries to paint her as this amazing woman who is just like everyone else but she's so, FLAT, so FLAWED! And she never learns!
[ 1 | 2 ]
Do you know anon, I feel as if you and I have really gone through a whole arc together.
I very much agree that vld’s canon Allura fell flat, in the end, because while they really gave her a solid backstory and place to build and grow from... I personally didn’t feel that they properly followed through? What upsets me the most is that the groundwork was right there: Allura & Lotor coming together to heal the wounds of the past and finish what their fathers started!! The galra Empire undergoing a change in leadership that was not only controversial but also the first in over ten thousand years!! A transition from out-and-out space war to a complex diplomatic period wherein the narrative could have addressed Allura’s misguided prejudice in tandem with the reality of the Empire’s rotten core, and reforming it all into something new and wonderful and much more in line with Lotor’s visions for Ven’tar and her people!!
But no, instead we got an abuse survivor becoming an entirely unstable echo of his abuser, and devolving into madness as he claimed he wanted to kill all the galra (seriously,,,, wtf was that) only to be killed in a battle that ultimately destabilised the Empire so severely that instead of holding another Kral Zera they gave up entirely on 13 millennia of tradition and became warring space pirates... and then Haggar/Honerva tears through all of reality to further destabalise the universe, and the answer is for Allura (who at some point apparently learnt to control her godlike powers despite Oriande not really explaining much of anything after the initial “wow! you’re a Good Person and also Gifted!” plot) to sacrifice herself to “fix reality” without ever addressing the actual issues at play?? Genuine question: why did Allura stopping the universe from falling apart at the seams automatically translate to Imperial stability and the cure-all for their culture of enslaving entire planets? Because it shouldn't have done.
In short, Allura deserved better and could have undergone a truly profound character arc, as could Lotor, and neither of them deserved to die because that ending wasn’t nearly so poetic as the writers intended.

So, I’ve been scrolling through people’s blogs for way too long, and I saw a bunch of posts talking about season 6—specifically the colony plotline and the issues with it—and it reminded me of what I thought was going to happen when the show was still airing.
I had a theory: what if it was Haggar all along?
Let me explain:
Just to get this out of the way, I came up with this either in the space between s6 and s7 when we were getting clips from s7 or after s7 aired. My memory of certain scenes are very fuzzy and I don’t remember the specific episodes where things I am going to be refencing happened so apologies in advance if I misplace things in the timeline or remember certain details incorrectly.
So this all began with the clip where Haggar remembers herself and she reverts back to her Altean appearance. We see her remove her hood and get a clear view of her full face, which looks very similar to Lotor’s. And this isn’t just the angle or a character being off-model one time, it’s just how she looks [besides, they wouldn’t be the first parent-child combo to share a face]. She also has white hair, roughly the same length, that is a bit choppy and gets fluffier on the bottom.
We know from the scene were Allura disguises herself as a Galra soldier that Alteans with the ability to shapeshift can change their height, build, and color. Would it be so difficult to believe that someone like Haggar, who is very gifted with quintessence, could modify things like their vocal cords as well? She knows how Lotor speaks well enough. And if it is beyond her abilities, she could use a voice modifier.
He always wears the same thing and styles his hair the same way whenever we see him as an adult, which adds to how easy it would be for her to copy his appearance. Her markings would show, but she can cover those.
It would also explain how he got that big Galran ship to transport Alteans to the second colony and how he was working with Galra scientists so nonchalantly.
The Ship
Lotor doesn’t seem to have much of his own stuff. In his introductory episode, somebody says something along the lines of, ”he fights on the front lines with his men,” but we don’t see him with any troops. At most, it’s just him and his generals. He has those smaller personal ships in the beginning [which could technically count as a fleet] and later the sincline ships, but that’s about it. So where does he get this large Galran ship from, and how did he move it around without drawing attention?
The Scientists
[I’m not sure if they count more as doctors or medical assistants or lab assistants, but for simplicity’s sake, I'm calling them scientists]
We see people in uniforms similar to the one Ulaz wears in Shiro’s flashback. Lotor is incredibly secretive and paranoid, to the point where he killed Narti, the person he entrusted with Kova, in an instant when he figured out Haggar was spying on them through her. He didn’t tell Allura about the colony, even when they were both alone in Orionde. He has been trying to keep Haggar and/or Zarkon from finding out about this for thousands of years. So why would he work with multiple Galra scientists that work under Haggar and bring them to the very place he has been trying to hide?
For Haggar though? Obtaining a ship would be simple. She has Zarkon’s favor and it’s implied he gives her whatever she wants most of the time. As for the scientists, they work for her and with her abilities, she could easily keep them quiet.
And now, for the thing that kickstarted this whole colony plot in the first place: the harvested quintessence. Why would Lotor be harvesting it this way in the first place? From his time on Ven’tar’s planet, we know he found a better way to harvest that both increased yields and didn’t damage the planet. So why would he make the jump straight to harvesting from people, Alteans no less? Unless he was forced, it seems strange. But for Haggar, who is obsessed with quintessence, and who we later see has no problem manipulating and sacrificing other Alteans, it seems like something she would have no qualms about.
The generals might be a problem, but we don’t know how much they know. Besides those scientists, it seems like he goes there by himself or with sentries most of the time. [Perhaps he brought Narti once and when Haggar took over her mind, that is how she found out?]
Also the visual parallel of the Alteans all lined up in the pods and the clone Shiros all lined up in theirs.
Obviously, my theory turned out to be Incorrect and it definitely had some holes [though so did the show], but I thought it would be fun to share and finally let it see the light of day :-)

My thoughts about Lotor and his character. (Yes, read the entire thing)
Ok, I am going to ruffle some feathers with this post but that’s ok. We all will have different opinions about things. I’ve been debating on whether or not I should make this post because I know once the toxic fandom gets to it, they will try to bully me off of the internet. But no matter, I am going to say it anyway.
We all know who Prince Lotor is and for those of you that don’t know, let me give you the rundown.
He is the exiled son of Zarkon and Honerva (Haggar). He was sent away because he refused to blow up a planet and wanted to work with Ven’tar and her people instead of defeating them. This was seen as a sign of weakness to Zarkon and he wanted his son to react the same way he would. Throughout his time away from the Galra, he studied his Altean heritage and how he could get to Oriande. He is only called back because Zarkon is left in a coma and is unable to run the empire. Still, he is running the empire in a rather weird way. He’s running it while he is away...fighting Voltron...and trying to find the trans-reality comet. For me, Lotor’s motives have flip-flopped since the beginning and this is why I was very leery of his character. It raised several red flags. At first, he fought Voltron every time he saw them but then he randomly switches to working with them. Once he defeated Zarkon, this is when he and Voltron became “true” allies. True enough he provided them with correct intel on enemies but still…I didn’t trust him at all. When the team reached Oriande it was revealed that Lotor was half-Altean and this is when Allura seemed to trust him more than before. That’s when I was like: “oh no. Someone’s about to get hurt.” And guess what? I was right although I don’t like to be right sometimes. Lotor invites the team to Zarkon’s ship and this is where they find out about Oriande.
Now, one of the golden questions here is did Lotor actually like Allura, or did he use her? I do think he genuinely had feelings for her and that is why they “worked” together so much. She obviously must have liked him too to tell him all of the secrets regarding the alchemy (which was a stupid move). Why did Lotor self-destruct? Allura said he was more like Zarkon than she ever imagined. Well, that would hurt especially coming from someone that you truly had feelings for. That whole exchange was upsetting but here’s the kicker.
I would actually feel bad for Lotor if he hadn’t lied to her. He knew the moment he met her that he had been harvesting Altean quintessence from those who thought they were going to the colony. Shit, what if something happened to Allura and he did the same thing to her? That part would make anyone believe that he used not only her but the entire team. When I saw that scene I yelled: “I knew it!” When he tried reasoning with her for the last time, he blew it. Then again, that your fault, dude.
Let’s see here: Allura’s parents were technically killed, the planet was destroyed, had been asleep for 10,000 years just to find out that the very one that killed her parents was still alive. She had been through all of this heartbreak just to finally connect and trust someone that in the end truly broke her heart by lying.
The whole rift scene was...a lot. To sum things up, Lotor became power-hungry. I mean the girl of his dreams just rejected him several times. I guess he didn’t have anything to lose. He wanted all of the power so he got it right? About them leaving him in the rift...morally was it right? Absolutely not. Then again, if they saved him, he would have definitely “turned out more like Zarkon” than everyone thought, maybe worse.
In conclusion, I have a “love-hate” feeling for Lotor. I see that he was trying to make the empire better but I’m assuming his methods weren’t working so he turned to the dark side. In a way, he is like Zarkon, just much smarter about his actions.
I love drawing Lotor and Allura but my word still stands.

Ven doesn’t wear any jewellery and her clothing is elegant but modest.
It’s a simple thing that I love about her. She’s down-to-earth and considerate of others feelings. She’s not verbose or ingratiating, nor is she showy or pretentious. I’m also incredibly impressed with her self-control; to be able to know when to hold her tongue and not infuriate an irascible and completely unreasonable despot when her own people were threatened with annihilation is amazing to me. She was a perceptive and discerning leader. I don’t need 5 more episodes to tell me that. This scene said it all.

VLD S8E2: Shadows
Season 8 Episode 2: Shadows
Transcript by @dragonofyang
Summary: In a series of flashbacks, we learn about Honerva’s history with Lotor and Zarkon across the centuries. We follow her from the events of Season 6 until the present as she looks for Lotor, mixed in with flashbacks of Lotor’s childhood.
[Google Doc]
[Open on a flashback from Season 6, then Honerva transports away from Lotor and his generals to the bridge of the ship.]
Honerva (as Haggar): Commander Mar, the emperor has been taken. The Voltron Paladins have betrayed him. Track him down and return him to me.
Mar: Vrepit Sa.
[Scene change to Honerva in her alchemy chamber.]
Honerva (as Haggar): Have you any word from Commander Mar?
Macidus: Nothing, High Priestess. Communication with Commander Mar has been lost.
Honerva (as Haggar): What of Emperor Lotor’s whereabouts?
Macidus: Still unknown.
[Scene change to Honerva back on the bridge at the ruins of Daibazaal where Kova waits hidden in the debris, then transition to a flashback of Honerva with Zarkon while Kova watches.]
Zarkon: I don’t see anything. Can it be true? I am to be a father?
Honerva: Yes.
Zarkon: And you, my queen, will be the mother to the heir of the Galra throne.
Honerva: Yes. There is much to do. First, we must continue to harvest the quintessence. It will be needed for your son’s empire.
Zarkon: He will be the best of both our people.
[Flashback ends to return to Honerva at the bridge, this time with Kova at her side as they overlook Daibazaal.]
Honerva: I will find you, my son.
[Scene change to Honerva’s alchemy chamber once more.]
Macidus: High Priestess, I am sorry to disturb you.
Honerva (as Haggar): Have you located Emperor Lotor?
Macidus: We still have not been able to ascertain any information regarding Emperor Lotor, Commander Mar, or Voltron. It has been phoebs since Emperor Lotor disappeared. The empire is in a state of chaos. The Blade of Marmora still challenges. We need a strong leader. The druids look to you, High Priestess.
Honerva (as Haggar): Tell them to look elsewhere. The druids are but ash in the winds of infinity. Let them be led by someone of equal esteem.
Macidus: Priestess…
Honerva (as Haggar): Depart my presence.
[Flashback to Honerva and Zarkon in the royal bedchamber.]
Zarkon: What shall we name the boy?
Honerva: I was thinking a name that has deep Altean history. Lotarious.
Zarkon: Lotarious?
Honerva: He was one of the ancient Alteans believed to have established much of the foundation of the engineering that built our world.
Zarkon: Interesting. I was considering a name from mythology. Kaltor. But he did not build the worlds, he conquered them.
Honerva: Perhaps we can honor both traditions.
[Scene change back to the alchemy chamber, where Honerva kneels.]
Guard: High Priestess, apologies. I was ordered to notify you when Commander Mar returned.
Honerva (as Haggar): What happened to him?
Drick: I found him like this, near death.
Honerva (as Haggar): What does he know?
Drick: His vitals are weak. He has yet to regain consciousness. We may never find out what he knows.
Honerva (as Haggar): There may be a way. Leave. Do you have news of the emperor?
Mar: Yes. I located Lotor’s generals.
Honerva (as Haggar): Where are they?
Mar: They… they attacked me and took over my ship, leaving me stranded.
Honerva (as Haggar): And what of the emperor? And what of the emperor?
Mar: The generals said Emperor Lotor accessed the Quintessence Field.
Honerva (as Haggar): He pierced the veil.
Mar: But then Voltron attacked. The fight ended. There was an explosion. Lotor and Voltron perished.
Honerva (as Haggar): No… No. I must find him. Call forth the Kral Zera.
[Flashback to just after Zarkon and Honerva’s “deaths” in the rift.]
Honerva: Who… who are you?
Zarkon: You do not recognize your emperor?
Honerva: Who… am I?
Zarkon: Where am I?
Guard: Aboard your ship, sir.
Zarkon: Take us home.
Guard: I can’t, sir. Daibazaal has been destroyed.
Zarkon: Get a doctor to this room immediately.
Haggar: Excuse me, my empress. I just need to--what are you doing? I need you to let go of me. Please! Let go!
Guard: Haggar! Haggar, can you hear me? Haggar, answer me! Oh, no. Help! Send help now!
Honerva: Haggar…
[Flash forward to Honerva-as-Haggar laying in bed after Lotor’s birth.]
Doctor: Sire, the birth was difficult but successful. Your son is healthy and in good shape, though we seem to be getting some strange readings coming from him directly. Similar to those that, well, similar to those of the empress and yourself.
Medic: Your son, sire.
Zarkon: Take him away.
Medic: But--
Zarkon: I said take him away! And what of her?
Doctor: I’m sorry, sire. We have her under constant watch, but she remains in this state. She only seems to become aware when we administer her quintessence. I’m hopeful her condition will improve with time, but, sire, we’re going to have to face the fact that our quintessence supplies are finite. The empire cannot continue to run on what we have. And you and the empress… without it, you’ll--
Zarkon: Give me the room. Do you know who I am?
Haggar: You are emperor.
Zarkon: And you?
Haggar: Ha… Haggar?
Zarkon: Do you know of quintessence?
Haggar: Quintessence.
Zarkon: Can you find me quintessence?
Haggar: Yes, my emperor.
[Flash forward to Feyiv, where Galra ships gather for the next Kral Zera.]
Drick: I am lighting the flame. Bow now, and your allegiance will be remembered.
Galra Officer: My fleet would crush yours in an instant, raining fire and death upon you and your clansmen. What makes you think I would ever bow to you?
Drick: Because I have the witch’s favor.
Galra Officer: It matters not. Power rules absolute.
Drick: I invite you to challenge me once the ceremony has begun. A display of the witch’s magic will bolster my claim as nothing else could.
Second Galra Officer: The Archivist!
Galra Officer: And your witch is nowhere to be found.
Honerva: This flame represents Lotor, son of Zarkon, prince turned emperor, emperor that pierced the veil. And my Altean blood coursed through his veins, but the Galra Empire failed him. It was the Galra blood, deeply boiled in traditions of evil, that tainted him. Your ways weakened a god.
Drick: That treacherous witch!
Honerva: The empire is weak. And now, I will end it.
Galra Officer: What’s this?
[Flashback to the Galra Command Center’s throne room, where a young Lotor stands before his father with a Dayak.]
Zarkon: Dayak, update me on the prince’s progress.
Dayak: Yes, sire. Prince Lotor completed the Agotian Trials as you requested. He was successful, even though they were advanced for his age.
Zarkon: What else?
Dayak: His physical stature is below expectation for the blood lineage of the Galra royalty, but his tactical scores are the highest we’ve ever measured.
Lotor: All I do, I do in the name of Galra. Father, there’s a question I’ve been wanting to ask you.
Dayak: Greatest apologies, sire. This one should not be speaking out of place.
Zarkon: Proceed.
Lotor: I would like to know about my mother. Please, Father, what happened to her?
Zarkon: I will tell you this and no more. She was my only weakness, but now she is gone.
Lotor: What was her name? What was she like?
Zarkon: Enough.
Lotor: Please, Father, I must know who I come from.
Zarkon: I said enough! If you do not remove his impurities, then I will find a Dayak that can.
Dayak: He will be punished accordingly. We will sear him down to his inner fire so that he may burn the universe. Vrepit Sa!
[Flash forward to Honerva, returning to Daibazaal after the Kral Zera.]
Honerva: My son.
[Flash back to Zarkon’s throne room, with a preteen Lotor at his side.]
Guard: Sire, your audience is requested in the Kandar wing.
Lotor: Father, may I accompany you?
Zarkon: You will stay here.
Lotor: But I want to join you. I have learned much of our--
Zarkon: You are an insolent boy. You may be the prince, but I am your emperor.
Haggar: Do not touch him. He will hurt you.
Lotor: What is his name?
Haggar: He has no name.
Lotor: Then I shall name it. Your name will be…
Honerva: --only Kova.
Haggar: Kova. His name is Kova.
Lotor: This creature pleases me. It will be mine.
Haggar: My lord…
Lotor: You may be the high priestess, but I am your prince, and you will do as I say. Isn’t that right, Kova?
Haggar: Yes, my lord.
[Flash forward to Honerva arriving at the first Altean colony.]
Merla: What are you doing here? Answer me.
Honerva: I am Honerva of the planet Altea.
Merla: That is impossible. Altea was destroyed over ten thousand years ago.
Honerva: A powerful portent that is shared with the birth of my son, Lotor.
Merla: Lotor’s mother?
Honerva: Lotor is gone.
Merla: How did he die?
Honerva: Voltron. To all of you who believed in my son so justly, your faith will be rewarded. I have come here today to continue my son’s mission and for that, I need you all.
Luca: We are your humble servants as will be the members of our sister colony once we inform them of the news. Do you know of their whereabouts?
Honerva: Unfortunately, they have also fallen to the evils of Voltron. Voltron and the Galra will pay for what they have done. With your help, I will resurrect my son’s dream.
Merla: We pledge our allegiance to you, Honerva, mother of Lotor.
[Flash forward to Honerva’s ship flying toward the white hole that hides Oriande.]
Honerva: This ancient land was created through powerful magic. Alteans would travel here to learn the secrets of our race. We have a long and difficult road ahead of us, but our path is true.
Merla: We will do anything to bring Lotor back.
Honerva: I know.
Merla: The acolytes have worked tirelessly. The prototype is ready.
Honerva: Excellent work. Find me the most faithful amongst us.
Merla: Yes, my queen.
[Flashback to Lotor’s colony planet, where the Galra Command Center orbits as it’s constructed.]
Ven’tar: Are you nervous?
Lotor: No, Ven’tar. This is my chance to finally make a difference, to show my father what we are capable of.
Zarkon: Update me on your progress.
Lotor: Our quintessence yields are some of the highest in the empire, and we’ve been more efficient than any other. By working alongside the denizens of this planet, like Ven’tar here, we’ve outsourced--
Zarkon: You dare work with this pitiful race as if they are your equals?
Lotor: It is working. We have outpaced even the most generous projections.
Zarkon: The heir to the Galra throne should not sully our honor by working with his subjects!
Lotor: It is the way my mother’s people would have done things. You thought I couldn’t find out about my own mother? About her people? You thought you destroyed every remnant of Altea, but you cannot unless you destroy your own son, as well!
Zarkon: Enough! You are to crush this planet beneath your heel!
Lotor: Never!
Zarkon: Then I will!
Lotor: You wouldn’t. You can’t! Father, wait! No, please do not do this, Father. Do not make these people suffer for my actions.
Zarkon: It is already done.
Lotor: I will do as you ask. The people will serve the Galra. No… No!
Zarkon: You are hereby banished from the empire. Forced to live out the remainder of your days remembering your failure here.
Lotor: Have you nothing to say, witch? Surely even you can see the folly of your master’s actions.
[Flash forward to Honerva as Haggar on the bridge of her ship.]
Honerva (as Haggar): Commander Sendak.
Sendak: the Lions of Voltron have arrived as you suspected. Shall I capture them for you, High Priestess?
Honerva (as Haggar): No. Destroy them.
Sendak: Vrepit Sa.
Honerva: Voltron has been found. It is time to test our first Altean acolyte.
[Flash forward to Honerva standing before the Alteans, lined by mechs on either side.]
Honerva: Today, the light of the universe shines inside our most brave. The dream of life is realized through her actions. For Luca the first acolyte, we shine in Lotor’s bright luminescence!
Luca: Voltron will pay for what they have done.
Honerva: May the light guide you. Rise and avenge my son.
End.

@mermaider00, I wanted to thank you again for standing up for Loturas and also blocking the anti who has been harassing and stalking us, even though that person was a supporter in your Ventor fandom. That really meant a lot to me and to others as well. So I wrote a little something for you, as a gift in thanks! It’s my hand at a bit of a Lotor and Ven’tar drabble, haha. I do hope you like it! <3
The Beginning of It All - A Lotor and Ven’tar Drabble
Her voice was a soft warble. “What is that from?”
Prince Lotor of the Galra Empire looked up from his desk, his brow in a puzzle of distraction, his white hair in a disheveled twist about his shoulders. His eyes followed the point of her finger, which aimed at his wrist. And then he looked away, back down at his datapad. “You are very observant, Lady Ven’tar.” His voice strained. “To see such a scar.”
The alien woman clasped her thin hands together before her. Her little antennas atop her head twitched with an anxiety. “I am sorry,” she said softly. “I should not ask.”
Lotor hesitated in his work. He swallowed down a hard emotion as he turned up his palm, the white scar on his wrist snaking up, beyond his sleeve. “There is no shame in curiosity.” His eyes flickered to her, searching her with an increasing emotion. “If you must know, it came from my father, for whom I am forced to...” His voice caught strangely and fell flat. “...work.”
Lady Ven’tar’s big, wide eyes held his gaze for the first time, in surprise.
His own eyes began to mist. Despite his violent Galran history and upbringing, the man appeared as a glass statute. Frail. Cracked. He looked back down, his shoulders bowing in. His breath caught strangely, and he said, voice halted, “Apologies.” He shakily hid his hand, hiding it under the table.
The woman’s perceptive gaze followed his actions, and her head tilted. Her pretty features saddened. “Ah. I see now.”
“What is it that you see?” he asked, not looking up.
“You are of the Munya,” she declared softly.
His misted, blue eyes rose back up to her. “...The Munya?”
“Yes. The Galrans who suffer with us.” For the first time in their interactions, the woman managed a weak smile. “There are others like you, in the ranks of your people. Very sad. Many scars.”
The prince did not speak for a time. “Why afford us your sympathy?” he asked, velvet voice tightening. “I do not liberate you, for fear of my father and my own life, just as these other soldiers fear as well.” His voice dropped into a dreary mumble. “If any of them truly exist.”
Lady Ven’tar delicately unclasped her hands and began to dust her modest sleeve. Her voice lifted in a lighter warble. “It is difficult to stand alone. The power of the Ultoo bug is not in the Ultoo, but in the hive.”
That stiffened his shoulders. “…Then you speak treason,” he whispered. His white brows furrowed. “You would speak of uniting such soldiers, raising a rebellion. To me, the son of your oppressor who yet commands you?”
She gave him a wide, airy look.
The Galran prince managed a weak huff, almost incredulous. He blinked rapidly. “Do you realize, Lady Ven’tar, the punishments you could accrue if my father heard such talk?”
She asked lightly, her voice a stronger warble, “How would your father hear if you do not tell him?”
Lotor hesitated again, searching her wide and innocent eyes to see there was great calculation in her. And knowledge.
There was a heavy silence between them, with punishment and death in the balance.
After several ticks, Lotor raised his scarred hand back up, resting it upon the desk. He leaned forward, vulnerable with hope. “We are surrounded. My father demands quintessence deliveries every three quintants, or I receive punishment as well. You speak of…Munya Galrans, but for however many may like to overthrow my father, there are thousands more who would slit our throats in his name alone. How would such a rebellion even begin?”
The beautiful woman smiled then, for the first time, laughing at him with her eyes, almost affectionate. “Fearful Prince, it already has.”
