#verse: the daughter of the original spider-man ( spider-girl canon )

How do you think Peter would handle retiring from being Spider-man? Or when he got too old would he even retire or would he try to keep going?
This is a really interesting question, thank you! So first things first, the one thing that becomes very apparent when you look at Spider-Man comics is that Peter is really bad at quitting being Spider-Man. It’s not that he hasn’t quit previously in canon; the image of him walking away from the Spider-Man costume in the garbage can from Amazing Spider-Man #50 is iconic, after all, and then there’s the beginning of Amazing Spider-Man volume 2 where he’s sworn to Mary Jane that he’s done with Spider-Man -- only to pick the identity back up behind her back. Peter is Spider-Man, and he loves being Spider-Man, even when it’s painful, even when there are exceptional risks, even when he knows better. It’s the premise of a lot of Spider-Man content -- like his Identity Crisis arc, for instance, where, with a five million dollar bounty on Peter’s head, he and Mary Jane create four new costumed identities for him, but ultimately for him none of them feel as right as Spider-Man. Then there’s the heavy implication in several Spider-Man comics, including Amazing Spider-Man #500, that Peter is going to die being Spider-Man, and that, on some level, that might be the way he wants things to go:
Tumblr media
(ASM #500)
I don’t think it can be underestimated how hard it is for Peter to put away Spider-Man. Take Amazing Spider-Man Annual 2001, wherein Peter is reunited with Mary Jane after her presumed death, and where she’s clearly suffering from the trauma of her imprisonment and needs him to put her above being Spider-Man -- and in that particular moment, he can’t, even though he loves her, even though he thought he lost her, even though she’s the most important person in his life, which is what leads her to make the decision about the separation you see them in at the beginning of my often recced JMS’ run.
So having established what an immensely difficult thing it is for Peter to quit being Spider-Man in 616 continuity, let’s look at two alternate universe instances wherein he did manage to do it, with slightly varying levels of success, one for a period of several years and one where the retirement is, with one or two slips, basically permanent. (What Spider-Verse comic event. I refuse to speak of it.)
First up, the original Secret Wars (2015) miniseries Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows. In Renew Your Vows, Peter and Mary Jane have a daughter named Annie. With the Avengers defeated, superpowers outlawed by a ruler named Regent, and Peter still reeling from Venom targeting Mary Jane and baby Annie, he decides to quit being Spider-Man so he can protect his family:
Tumblr media
“But I look after me and mine and that’s... good enough.” - Renew Your Vows v1 #1
In Renew Your Vows, Peter doesn’t quit being Spider-Man permanently -- he picks the identity back up when he realizes he be both Spider-Man and a responsible father to Annie. But there’s a solid few years here where he managed it and for Peter, that’s a pretty good run. And that brings me to my second example, which is the MC2 universe.
Tumblr media
(Spider-Girl #17)
MC2 stands for Marvel Comics 2, and its continuity deviates from 616 canon in a very specific place: unlike in 616, Peter and Mary Jane’s baby daughter May didn’t die, and was instead recovered alive. So, much like in Renew Your Vows, you have the factor in play of Peter having a child to think of -- this is something that’s come up in 616 a couple of times in relation to his identity as Spider-Man, because Peter himself is the orphaned child of two people who were involved in very high risk, very secrecy-oriented jobs, so he is aware that if he had children and continued on being Spider-Man he could very well be perpetuating the cycle that left him orphaned as a young child and it is something that bothers him. But in addition to his role a father playing into his being able to actually, definitively quit Spider-Man, MC2 has another factor in play:
Tumblr media
(Spider-Girl #7) MC2′s Peter also suffered the loss of his right leg, an injury that affected his abilities as a vigilante. So it’s this combination of a career-threatening injury and fatherhood that managed to get Peter to put aside the mask on a more or less permanent basis. And ultimately I think that’s what it would take -- a near miss with consequences heavy enough to both impede him as Spider-Man and make him consider perpetuating the same cycle that left him an orphan and what that would mean for his own children, those children being the representation of something he feels a greater personal responsibility towards than the responsibilities of Spider-Man.
Tumblr media
“Like any professional athlete, he knew his time had passed.” -- Amazing Spider-Girl #11. I do think it’s worth considering Peter and Spider-Man as an athlete, and that extreme athleticism does take a toll after a while. And while the loss of his leg was a big setback for him as Spider-Man, ultimately I think the angle of Peter and fatherhood is more important. While the loss of his leg might have given him a reason to put down the mask, I don’t think it’s something he would’ve done if he didn’t also have a young child to think about. And I think this is a pretty easy jump to make with 616 Peter (as much as Marvel wants to currently obscure and ignore this in his characterization), who has suffered and been greatly affected by the loss of several young children, such as baby May:
Tumblr media
(Spectacular Spider-Man #243 -- the Chameleon is messing with Peter’s mind in this issue, trying to convince him of a different identity, but Peter’s memories of Mary Jane and the loss of baby May shine through.)
Tumblr media
(Peter Parker #81)
And Richie Parker, the son he had with Gwen in the altered House of M reality:
Tumblr media
(House of M #3)
Tumblr media
(Son of M #1)
So I do personally think that a big part of getting Peter to retire Spider-Man in an honest way would require him to weigh the mask and his responsibilities in it against the responsibilities he’d have to a child and his desire for children and the losses that 616 Peter has suffered in that regard.

People tend to do the same thing for Steve and Tony (Stony), as in fetishize their relationship, when you’ve already mentioned that there are plenty of LGBTQ people in the world of Marvel.
Hi nonny!
TBH, it’s hardly hot news that fandom in general like to fetishize mlm couples (especially if the characters are portrayed as straight). It’s usually straight women that fetishizes mlm ships (that’s a whole another problem I won’t get into now, otherwise this would be a very long post). I mean, I still remember the days of BBC Sherlock and Johnlock. I’m sure you do too, nonny.
Now, everyone has their own headcanons about characters and all. And that’s totally OK. But the MCU adapts characters from the comics (I know I’m totally coming across like a comic book purist, which I’m not, not really), and there are tons of wonderful LGTBQ characters in the comics. I’m aware that not all the people that are part of the MCU fandom read the comics, and that’s cool.
I guess that my main issues with this are the following:
Like I said before, the MCU adapts the characters from the comics. But adaptation doesn’t mean carbon copy. Just like MCU’s MJ is not the “typical” Mary Jane we know, the MCU version is based on an alternate version of Mary Jane from the comics in which she was as much of a genius as Peter (I can’t remember the alternate universe). The same can happen with a character’s sexuality. Let’s use Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman as an example. Her original version (Earth-616) is straight. But her Ultimate version (Earth-1610) identifies as a lesbian. Same can happen with Illyana Rasputina aka Magik, who in Earth 616 is established as straight, but she’s also established as bi and gay in different alternate universes. Other characters that can go this route are Wolverine and Hercules (both from Earth-12025, alternate universe in which they’re a couple) and Beast and Wonder Man (both from Earth-763, alternate universe in which they’re a couple).
Tumblr media
(I MEAN... Here you have two of the manliest, most macho-looking superheroes Marvel has, sharing a show-stopping kiss. JUST IMAGINE if we got something remotely close to it in the MCU).
I don’t have a problem with characters being queer when their comic counterpart are straight, as long as it makes sense whithin their narrative frame. Otherwise, it just becomes thoughtless representation and as a community we deserve better than that.
Then, of course, you have the canon LGBT characters (by canon I refer to characters present in the Earth-616 timeline). You have:
- Gay characters:
Union Jack
Northstar
Angela (Thor’s older sister, whose storyline in the MCU was given to Hela)
Sera
Korg (who already is in the MCU)
Phyla-Vell
Moondragon
America Chavez
Wiccan
Hulkling
Iceman (one of the 6 original X-Men)
Karma (founder of the New Mutants)
Viv (Vision’s “daughter”)
-Bi characters:
Loki
Black Cat
Psylocke
Mystique
Electro (a Spider-Man villain)
Daken (Wolverine’s son)
Prodigy
Beetle (a Spider-Man villain)
Fuse
Noh-Varr
-Pan characters:
Deadpool
Julie Power
Xavin
-Trans characters:
Sera
Loki
-Genderfluid characters:
Loki
Xavin
Mystique
-LGBTQ characters that already are in the MCU (*):
Loki (Bisexual and genderfluid)
Valkyrie (Bisexual)
Nico Minoru (Bisexual)
Karolina Dean (Gay)
Xavin (Genderfluid)
Jeri Hogarth (Gay)
Joey Gutierrez (Gay)
Justin Hammer (Gay)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(*)I’m aware of the pattern here, the only openly LGBTQ characters are from the Marvel shows. Loki, Valkyrie and Justin Hammer have all been confirmed as queer behind the scenes
As you can see, there are tons of queer characters, some that even fit with the direction the MCU will be taking after Endgame:
You have America Chavez, Wiccan, Hulkling and Noh-Varr, all members of the Young Avengers. A notable member of this team? Cassie, Scott Lang’s daughter (she’s a teenager by the end of Endgame, so the timeline is just right for Marvel to bring the YA to the MCU). Also, in the Disney + Hawkeye series, it’s said that Clint will train someone. That someone could turn out to be Kate Bishop, another member of this group.
You have Iceman, Karma, Psylocke, Mystique, Daken, Prodigy and Deadpool, all members of the X-Men or groups affiliated with them. Since Disney acquiered the rights to the X-Men, we’ll see some of them soon in the MCU.
You have Phyla-Vell and Moondragon, characters associated with the GotG and the cosmic side of Marvel. Since one of the confirmed projects is the Eternals movie and it’s also said that the Captain Marvel sequel will take place in space, it’s possible these characters are introduced, since it seems the MCU is heading towards exploring the cosmic side of the universe. Marvel also confirmed that the Eternals movie will introduce its first openly gay character, so yay!
You have Ultimate Jessica Drew. She’s from the same alternate universe as Miles Morales. Since FFH confirmed the Multiverse theory, it can be possible this version of the character appears in the MCU, either as the MCU’s version of the Jess or as part of the Spider-Verse story-line. Also possible to make an appareance (but a little further down the line): Black Cat. She’s a love interest/rival to Spider-Man. There’s also possibility for Electro and Beetle to appear since they were both part of the Sinister Six.
You have Angela and Sera. Since Thor joined the GotG at the end of Avengers: Endgame, making it look like an adaptation of the Asgardians of the Galaxy run (or at least, the start of it), it’s easy to introduce, at least, Angela, since she became a rather popular character.
You have Loki and his upcoming Disney + solo series, which will take place in an alternate universe. The series is perfect for Marvel to explore the sexuality of one of its most popular characters.
You have Viv, the Vision’s daughter. Since we’ll get the ScarletVision Disney + series, it’s possible we get a version of Viv, or a mix of her and the children Wanda and Vision “had” (if you read House of M, you’ll know what I’m referring to). Viv is part of the series of new young heroes, along with Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Riri Williams (Ironheart), Miles Morales (Ultimate universe’s Spider-Man), Spider-Gwen (Earth-65′s Gwen Stacy), Nadia Pym (Wasp), Lunella Lafayette (Moon Girl) and Gabby Kinney (a clone of Wolverine).
As I said, there are tons of awesome characters waiting to be introduced. Just because they’re not known to the GA doesn’t mean they couldn’t be great additions to the MCU. I mean, almost nobody knew about the Guardians when their first movie came out. Scott Lang and Stephen Strange were largely unknown by the GA when their movies came out. So yeah, I have great hopes for these awesome characters.
Also, support the Marvel shows that are giving us proper representation! Watch Runaways on Hulu and Jessica Jones and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on Netflix.

Okay there are a lot of problems with this video. Firstly peter was 15 in 1962 not 16 (actually more like 17 originally before retcons). Secondly Peter is never that much older than 16? Dude he was 25 in 1987. If you believe Marvel in 2013 he was 28. If you believe the true canon he is in his mid 30s now. That is very much older than 16. Talking about him being back in collage as though he’s back to being collage aged is misleading because he’s returned to finish a MASTERS degree as a mature student, a common practice. It is not as though he is 18-22 again.
Furthermore its not a sure thing he will always be in a state of arrested development. He’s been around for 55 years and for more than HALF that time he gradually progressed forward in his life. The attempts to halt or regress him only began in the mid 1990s and never took real hold until 2007 with OMD. Even that is being rolled back upon under Nick Spencer’s tenure. So Spider-Man’s arrested development has only been a thing for less than half his existence and was NEVER the intention for the character by his creators.
More importantly much more successful comics (i.e. the ones from Japan) wholesale REJECT that model of storytelling, meaning from a sustainability and profitability point of view its actually on the cards for Marvel to adopt an anti-arrested development POV.
Now lets move onto the idea of Peter never quite having his life together. Who does. No seriously MOST people, especially in this day and age where there is 0 job security and owning property is a major blessing few can afford, have ‘their shit together’. Adulthood is never achieving a state of ultimate balance, it’s just learning to keep the plates spinning for longer and having FEWER breakages.
I think what this video misses big time is that the Older Peter in this movie is not really a representation of classic Peter Parker so much as a Peter for whom everything went wrong. He’s the ‘Old Washed Up Spider-Man’ in counterpoint to ‘Blonde Successful celebrity Spider-Man’ or ‘Spider-Man if he was Gwen Stacy’. Its a role neccesarry for showcasing the ‘anything goes’ attitude to who can be Spider-Man and more poignantly for facilitating Miles’ arc. Furthermore the Peter of this movie doesn’t gradually lose his edge because he grew old and his prime ebbed away. He LET himself go due to the personal life hardships that befell him and the mistakes he made. His age isn’t truly the point, the point is he’s the ‘Washed Up’ Spider-Man and part and parcel of that is him being old, but his age also is important in counterpoint to Miles as the next generation as he is serving as a father figure to Miles. Their journeys parallel one another as through their mutual relationship Miles learns to become Spider-Man for the first time and Peter learns to become Spider-Man AGAIN!
Your assessment that this version of Peter ‘makes more sense’ only operates under a misreading of the character. Peter’s life in this universe didn’t fall apart because of small events getting on top of him it’s very clearly the case that it was his divorce tfrom MJ over being unable to bring himself to have children with her that threw him into a rut and those other problems compounded his rut. This is why his arc is framed as redemptive THROUGH reconnecting with Mary Jane and through realizing that he is okay with having children because of babysitting Miles. And that arc is great, again, when you consider this guy a mere riff upon classic Spider-Man and not actually a conceptualization of canon Spider-Man if he grew older. It is a very well established fact in canon that Spider-Man is 100% all in when it comes to having a family of his own. He’s WANTED to be a father for decades worth of stories and the 1990s detailed that scenario when Mary jane became pregnant. Thus the pair divorcing over his inability to go in that direction and this breaking him down doesn’t make sense if you adopt this Peter as a representation of the actual canon Spider-Man, rather than just ‘Washed Up AU Spider-Man’ who serves the needs of being Miles’ mentor. As an ACTUAL future direction for the canon character it doesn’t make much sense at all. Not to mention Peter and Mary Jane have split up before AND Peter even believed her dead before and didn’t give up on himself the way Spider-Verse Peter Parker did. He didn’t do that on ANY of the occasions he believed Aunt May to have died either.
Your assessment of Spider-Girl is profoundly misleading and reveals you’ve not actually bothered to read the series. In issue #8 (so not that deep into the story at all) it is revealed Peter absolutely could have replaced his limb had he wanted to. He chose not to not because of story contrivance but BECAUSE he wanted to be there to raise his daughter instead. Moreover dissing the unrelatability of losing a limb while fighting Green Goblin to the death is also a very cheap and shallow read of that series. Putting aside how (as I've explained in another comment) Peter's disolution in this movie is actually very much OUT of character for him if you run by his canon personality and history, losing a limb to the Goblin is a metaphorical stand in for soldiers or cops or firemen who are crippled in service. Everyone knows you don't take the superhero battles purely on face value, they are symbollic of other things, typically things that are the closest analogous examples. its why superheores are so often compared to police officers. In fact that was the central inspiration for Spider-Girl. The creator observed someone who was a retired cop resisting his daughter following in his footsteps.

Can we also please kill the lie that OMD and Sins Past means J. Michael Straczynski run is worse Slott’s?
Can we also please kill the lie that J. Michael Straczynski run is worse Slott’s because of Sins Past and OMD?
Because it’s objectively not true.
I’ve already addressed how it’s really not fair to blame OMD on JMS because it was more Quesada’s story than his.
Sins Past on the flipside is a story that yes JMS SHOULD be blamed for and has major problems but probably not in the ways you think. And as bad as it is there are Slott stories that match or exceed how bad it is and deal as much if not more damage to the Spider-Verse than it.
Let’s first contextualize some things. Sins Past was a story that like OMD had editorial interference. As intended by JMS he wanted the Stacy twins to be the children of PETER and Gwen not NORMAN and Gwen. Much like his original resolution to OMD editorial stepped in and wound up playing damage control, one of the few times I will thank Quesada.
At the same time (unless I am mistaken) editorial also SUGGESTED that Norman be used as a substitute for Peter as opposed to just telling JMS he couldn’t do a story about Gwen’s secret pregnancy.
Then again JMS and editorial figured it wouldn’t matter because even way back in 2004 when Sins Past was being published they knew they were going to do SOMETHING to cosmically retcon Spider-Man’s history and thereby erase the marriage. JMS wrote Sins Past with the presumption that he was going to be able to erase it from existence when all was said and done. This was part of his anger when OMD happened the way it did.
But hey, this doesn’t exactly redeem the story JMS actually wrote right?
It’s still got a lot of problems and is still the worst story under his run that he is genuinely to blame for.
And what are the ways in which the story is bad?
Well:
It turns Peter and Gwen’s relationship into a big fat lie because Peter never knew the ‘real Gwen’. She was lying to him and realistically not going to be acting the way she normally would because she was both pregnant, lying about it and naturally worried. And after the pregnancy she was now a parent which naturally changes your outlook on life…oh and she was still lying about their existence. Peter’s relationship with Gwen was formed during two big extenuating circumstances during which Gwen was unlikely to think, feel  or act in ways she ever had before or probably ever would again.
By extension of Gwen’s pregnancy and parenthood now retroactively dominating most of her canonical history WE the audience never really got as good of a picture of who Gwen was a person before she was thrown into this exceptional situation. Which is on the one hand okay because you can say that of countless characters, the problem being that with Gwen the original intention was for that to NOT be the case. Instead of now knowing who Gwen is and how she’d act under certain situations we now only know those things within the context of when she was pregnant/had recently had children and was lying and stressed out over it
Gwen’s pregnancy makes no sense. You have to get ridiculously loose with the actual amount of time that events are supposed to unfold across including when exactly Gwen gave birth. Moreover we were privy to Gwen’s inner thoughts multiple times across her history and got exactly zero indicators that she was dealing with a stressful pregnancy.
This goes well beyond MJ retroactively knowing about Peter’s identity. We didn’t get as good of a look into MJ’s head during the Silver (or even bronze) age and MJ had at least plausible grounds to deny and suppress the truth to herself. If Gwen was fucking PREGNANT that isn’t something that you could as easily say ‘oh she was just suppressing that it was happening behind the scenes’. Not with the degree of access we had to her private life.
More egregiously though Gwen was clearly NOT pregnant. Look at any given image of her from the period she was allegedly pregnant and she is very obviously not showing. Sure, some women do not show when pregnant as a quirk of their or their child’s metabolisms. But they do when it’s fucking TWINS.
The retcon in one way makes Gwen stronger and more admirable as a character for dealing with this huge burden on her own but it also makes her as a person look really, really bad. I’m not talking about sleeping with Norman, or lying about that. I’m talking about expecting Peter to be a father to her children. Okay, maybe that one is forgivable. She’s a young kid in a big stressful situation she is not prepared for at all. But even if you run with that idea…why does she abandon her kids by returning to the United States without them and even risk her own life by going to the fucking SAVAGE LAND when she has two babies in another country relying upon her to return for them?
It gets worse when you consider she had multiple clones all with her memories who also never mentioned or seemed to give a single shit about their CHILDREN. Some of those clones matured further into adulthood than Gwen so there is really no excuse. Even if they argue that those children are not theirs because they’re just clones of their mother, fucking TRY to help them and check up on them. They’re goddam babies!
The story makes no sense for Mary Jane, undermines her relationship with Peter and makes her look really, really bad as well.
Whilst forgivable it is somewhat undermining to Peter and MJ’s relationship that MJ would spend years lying to Peter about Gwen and Norman’s affair and her pregnancy. Although it does speak volumes that Peter forgives her for it relatively quickly.
What’s more irksome about the story is the implication that MJ wonders if Peter loves Gwen more than her when he doesn’t and she does know that. But okay, you can No Prize that one.
What’s NOT forgivable though is how MJ apparently never told ANYONE about this situation. Not Peter, Ben Reilly, Gwen’s clones, Gwen’s extended family whom she was friends with, the police, child services, NOBODY.
Basically MJ in spite of knowing that there were two children out there in another country who were now orphans didn’t even try to look in on them or put someone else onto doing that.
She just ignored them. In doing so she condemned them to be raised by their abusive father Norman Osborn. MJ didn’t even tell her best friend Jill Stacy about Gwen’s children when Norman revealed he was still alive in the 90s. Wouldn’t she have PRESUMED Norman would have found those kids?
MJ let two innocent children out to dry because of this retcon.
The story straight up rewrites history because it takes panels from ASM #121 and depicts them with different dialogue and body language that never happened but needs to exist to facilitate the retcons
The story does not adequately justify Gwen’s attraction towards Norman or even explain when exactly it happened
And yet in spite of all this you know Sins Past up until the big reveal was actually a really, really good story. The mystery was gripping and the subject matter highly appropriate to Spider-Man. Mostly good dialogue as always by JMS and beautiful artwork by Deodato Junior.
Those are the big problems with Sins Past. Notice something? I didn’t mention Gwen and Norman sleeping together or Gwen cheating on Peter.
Wanna know why?
Because they’re not what’s wrong with the story.
Gwen was established as being attracted to older men way back in the 1990s and it is far from unrealistic for her and Norman to make a mutual mistake and sleep together.
It’s pure soap opera and that’s very much in line with Spider-Man. It isn’t spinning the relationship positively and encouraging other 19 year olds to sleep with men old enough to be their fathers who are also actual friends of their father and also the parent of one of their friends whom they had dated recently. The opposite is true if anything considering how Norman is clearly framed as utterly evil and despicable and Gwen as someone who made a big, stupid but common and human mistake.
As for Gwen cheating on Peter I guess that depends upon your definition of cheating but by my standing that would require her and Peter to actually BE in a relationship of some kind.
At the time Gwen canonically is supposed to have slept with Norman they were not. They’d been on one or two dates and that was it. They were not a couple and were not going steady or serious about one another at all. Peter was in love with her but he wasn’t in a serious relationship with her.
So Gwen wasn’t cheating on anyone.
Also across the years I’ve not really liked how Gwen is the one who’s demonized for the ‘affair’ with Norman.
Like…she was literally 18 or 19 years old at the time the story happens, 20 at a push.
Why the fuck is SHE the one who gets blasted for sleeping with Norman when he’s the grown ass man in the situation. Shouldn’t it be HIS responsibility to NOT sleep with the girl young enough to be his daughter, is the literal daughter of one of the people from his social circles and close friend of his son’s?
I know, I know…he’s evil.
But just because one person is evil in this situation doesn’t therefore make the blame attributable to the other non-evil person there.
Sins Past is bad because it’s retcon doesn’t make sense and equally importantly is damaging to the characters and narrative. NOT because it features a young girl sleeping with an older man after being on 2 dates with another man.
Here is the thing though, it was ignored pretty much immediately and so aggressively makes no sense and just does not fit into the canon at all that it’s actually not that hard to simply ignore.
It does NEED to be retconned out don’t get me wrong, but you can sort of cordon off the story and then continue reading with little difficulty.
The same cannot be said for Slott’s run.
Here is a BRIEF list of the crap Slott has pulled:
  ·         Portraying Doctor Octopus as a rapist
 ·         Presenting Peter as a manchild who is mentally 15
 ·         Having Peter interfere illegal in the affairs of foreign countries
 ·         Removing Norman Osborn’s powers
 ·         Killing off Doc Ock, making multiple Doc Ock clones and then making one of those an alt-right allegory in league with effective Nazis, HYDRA
 ·         Having Mary Jane victim blame Spider-Man by breaking up with him (when they were not together) after he was abused by Doc Ock in Superior
 ·         Portraying Otto as BETTER than Peter during Superior
 ·         Implying Peter was willing to endanger a child’s life for his own sake when he made Doc Ock’s hand shake during surgery in Superior #8
 ·         Killing off MC2 Peter Parker and thereby invalidating the entire point of Mayday Parker as a character. She is driven by being the daughter of Spider-Man and her relationship with her father. See also removing her iconic costume
 ·         Making Ben Reilly into a straight up asshole villain
 ·        Retconning the death of Gwen Stacy so that Gwen died hating Peter Parker and was conscious when her death came
 ·         Killing off Ashley Kafka AFTER portraying her as believing a villain was irredeemable. For context Kafka believed CARNAGE was redeemable!
 ·         Wasting the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man on a worthless character like Alpha solely to launch a  spin-off mini-series
 ·         Destroying Peter Parker’s everyman status by making him an internationally famous rich guy in charge of the world’s biggest tech conglomerate
 ·         Shipping him with Mockingbird in direct opposition to both characters’ established characterizations
 ·         Introducing Silk who despite zero combat experience was better at superheroing than Spider-Man himself oh and also had the power to compel Spider-Man to sleep with her against his will...which would be yet more rape
 ·         Ignoring Black Cat’s history by pretending she had a secret identity (she didn’t) and then making her into a murderous psycho crime lord for irrational reasons even though she’s supposed to be morally grey
 ·         Frequently portraying Spider-Man as secondary in his own title and requiring help from guest stars and team up characters
 ·         Portraying MJ as weak willed, stupid, shallow, and passive even though she’s absolutely none of those fucking things
 ·         Presenting Silver Sable as an school girl with the hots for Spider-Man, again against her characterization and ruining the unique professional relationship they shared
 ·         Ruining the unique character of Phil Urich by just turning him into ANOTHER cackling Goblin villain
 ·         Doing a story about Betty Brant being assaulted wherein Spider-Man decides to let the criminal go because Aunt May guilt tripped him. How did she guilt trip him? By claiming he was irresponsible when at age 15 he wasn’t there to comfort her, a 50-60 year old woman the night uncle Ben died
 ·         Portraying EVERY character as unrealistically idiotic in Superior Spider-Man in order to ensure that the Doc Ock could remain Spider-Man
Now...tell me again how JMS is worse?

- Once Upon a Time - I mean, my Disney verses are Milo from Journey to Atlantis and Giselle from Enchanted and neither of those ever showed up on OUaT, but I mean, they could...
- Battlestar Galactica - A Cylon - Mostly the Reboot because I don't know the original that well
- Jurassic Park - A scientist working with the dinosaurs
- Sliders - Just because
- Quantum Leap - Okay but like a Quantum Leap thing would be so fun
- WestWorld - A Host
- Blade Runner / Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep - A Replicant/An Android
I think you can get the theme here. Most Sci-Fi (and Fantasy, for that matter) things can work but especially if they have robots/AIs, clones, personality "imprints", or things like that. Also symbiotic relationships. I love those.

Fandom-verses - Canon Character AU Versions:
Worm John – #I’m-Just-A-Worm – Worm – Labyrinth
The Worm loves his Queen (@manenimittliv). The King (@youreyesxcanbesocruel) scares him a bit but the King has been friendlier to him for a while now. He's not entirely sure why.
He also exists in the verse with Anna's Jareth (@itscnlyfcrever), where John IV (WereJohn Synth) accidentally fell into Jareth's labyrinth.
Spider-Ham/Peter Porker – John Mulaney – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Peter Porker was originally a spider just named Peter until he was bitten by a radioactive pig, which resulted in him transforming into a pig but retaining his spider abilities.
Giselle – #True-Love's-Kiss – Amy Adams – Enchanted
Giselle is a typical Disney not-quite-princess. She sings, animals love her, and she believes in Happily Ever After and the power of True Love's Kiss. She learns about harsher realities when she gets thrown out of Andalasia, her fairytale land, and into our New York City. Despite troubles she faces in the harsh land of New York, she remains optimistic and curious, although she does do quite a bit of growing and never quite marries her prince she had been engaged to in Andalasia (I'll also just reblog and use pictures and gifs of Amy Adams in general, and specifically of her as Amelia Earhart from Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian because she's super cute in that).
Cam Harrison – William Moseley – The Little Mermaid (2018)
Cam Harrison is a young reporter who, while looking for a good story, goes to a circus with his niece where he meets a mermaid (@manenimittliv) who he later rescues and falls in love with.
Dawn Smith – Dawn Summers – Michelle Trachtenberg – Buffyverse AU
Really just Dawn Summers, Buffy's little sister from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Dawn was originally a glowing ball of energy that served as a key between dimensions. Monks made the key into a human girl, making her the little sister of the Slayer (Chosen One female super vampire slayer/demon hunter, originally one every generation, the next one is called when the last one is killed, who protects innocents against "vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness"), Buffy Summers, so she would be protected from the angry goddess Glorificus (often just called "Glory"), who wanted to use the key to get back to her home dimension, where she was kicked out of, but doing so would result in the walls of all dimensions collapsing and causing choas and destruction to all dimensions. Dawn was given false memories of living an entire life being Dawn Summers, and anyone who should know who Dawn is would get the fake memories of her having always been there when they see her for the first time.
Frank Wishbone – John Smith? – #Monster-Family – Eddie Redmayne? (Nick Frost was the voice) – Monster Family
Frank Wishbone is awkward, non-confrontational (originally to a fault, being something he had to overcome a bit), and over-worked. He is the father of Fay and Max and husband of Emma. Count Dracula becomes infatuated with Emma and attempts to court her, and in the process causes the entire family to become their costumes when they went to a costume party, when he was only trying to get Emma (dressed as a vampiress Bride of Dracula) to become her costume. Frank was turned into Frankenstein's Monster, Max was turned into a (very cute) Wolf Man/werewolf and Fay was turned into a mummy. Fay was briefly courted by Imhotep until Frank chased him away after it was clear she did not want him. Fay dates a guy named Jayden from her school.
We have an AU of this that has John as Frank, Anna (@manenimittliv) as Emma, Fay as a daughter of Jareth (@youreyesxcanbesocruel) and Anna who gets stuck in a different reality and lives with that universe's version of her mother and her stepfather, John, and TB (@tavinwho) as Max, with Erik (@princeofconjurers / @theabandonedroo) as Dracula.
Amber Smith – #Christmas-Prince – Rose McIver? Melissa Benoist? – A Christmas Prince AU
Amber Moore, a young journalist, is sent to Aldovia to cover a press conference with the crown prince Richard. She accidentally gets mistaken for the tutor of Princess Emily, the prince's younger sister. She uses this mistake to her advantage, posing as Emily's tutor to get a good story on the prince, who she eventually falls in love with.
(In our version, @manenimittliv plays Richard. We might have Melissa Benoist (my most common female version of John called Kara, or maybe Amy Adams or another female FC I use) as Amber and one of Anna's male versions of Anna called Sean (either Ed Sheeran or David Bowie) as Prince Richard.
Cornelius "Lewis" Robinson – #Keep-Moving-Forward – Meet the Robinsons Universe
John is Lewis/Cornelius, Anna (@manenimittliv) is Franny and TB (@tavinwho) is Wilbur. Bud and his wife Lucille adopted Lewis, who changed his name to Cornelius. Bud's brother Fritz, his sister-in-law Petunia, their kids Tallulah and Laszlo, and his other brother and sister-in-law Joe and Billie live with them, as well as Cornelius's wife Franny, their son Wilbur, and Franny's brothers Gaston and Art, and twin brothers Spike and Dimitri (no one knows who they're related to), their butler Lefty and their robot Carl, made by Cornelius, as well as many of Cornelius's inventions, Franny's jazz-singing frogs, and their new pet T-Rex.
