The Beginning of the Journey #3
It was the day when Costa Rica Santa Rosa ends of sales, around Feb 2017. I don't remember why I started to like it, but compare to Ethiopia or Kenya, Costa Rica were definitely my kind of coffee back then. I was a little disappointed because I thought that I can’t drink my favorite coffee in morning anymore. However the good news was they still have whole bean bag, so I bought it without any doubt. Okay, I got the coffee bean and I already had a Kalita coffee mill at home. But wait, even I can grind the coffee, but there's no way to brew coffee at home. HAHAHA     Verve Coffee Japan offers Kalita Wave (of course the filters of it too), Hario server and many other goods. Bang! I can brew coffee at home now :)))

Coffee drives me nuts since the day I started brewing coffee. I asked so many questions to baristas and searched “how to brew coffee with Kalita Wave” on Youtube to learn the way to brew. The answers are never the same. For example, the temperature of water, some say 88℃ and some say 96℃. So I was like, 8℃ is a HUGE difference!! After inputting a lot of brewing information in my head, I decided to find my own way, the grind of coffee bean, the temperature of water and the way to pour water. I think I was wasting the good quality coffee beans at first because I was sooo bad to make a cup of coffee and I didn’t even want to drink it. But that’s what beginner does, isn’t it? I started going to Verve Coffee mostly every morning, sitting in front of the pour over kits, watching the way how baristas pour, and asking questions to improve my skills. And yes, I changed my coffee mill (the one in the picture) to coffee grinder (Melitta Vario series) because compare to mill, grinder make sure you get an even and solid grind. Through a process of trial and error, the taste of coffee starts getting better, but there’re still many things to fix and I’m working on it right now. I bought some books to learn not only the way to brew, but everything about coffee, like cultivars, processes and so on. Coffee is art, whether to make it beautiful or ugly, it’s really up to you.

If you ask me which coffee was unforgettable, I’d say these three: 1. Costa Rica Santa Rosa, very first cup I got into. 2. Ethiopia ChelChele, changed my impression to Ethiopia coffee 3. Panama Jurutungo Natural, the meaning of Jurutungo and why it’s natural process moved my mind, I wanted to drink it desperately after reading the bean bio on vervecoffee.com, before it takes a long flight to Japan.
Coffee is not the be-all and end-all, but once you've experienced excellence, you will know coffee isn’t bitter because COFFEE IS A FRUIT.
