as many of you may recall, baz has been having trouble with a wound on his foot that just won’t heal. today he had surgery to remove the tissue and suture it together. they are splinting the foot to keep him from bending the joint the wound is on. hoping dearly that this fixes it! my poor baby. 😭 he doesn’t get to come home until tomorrow afternoon. please send him love to comfort him during his overnight stay.

“I want to be a vet” is a common childhood dream… but I’m curious just how widespread it is!
Reblogs are appreciated 🐾

Hi. I don't normally post here. I do a lot of reblogging but I desperately need help. My best friend, Norman has been hospitalized since Saturday 3/2. I took him to the emergency vet for loss of appetite, sudden weight loss and extreme lethargy. They diagnosed him with diabetes. They hospitalized him and we've struggled getting him well ever since. I got multiple calls at the late hours of the night on Sunday night. He had a really rough night, they had a hard time keeping him alive, they told me he had hard damage to his liver and it could possibly be shutting down. The vet doesn't want to give up on him, but that means I'll have to pay another night of hospitalization including insulin, boarding, IV, medications, and round the clock care from staff. I have already fitted a $12,000 bill for Saturday 3/2-Monday 3/4 and do not have much more to give. This cat means the world to me and has given me a reason to wake up everyday and try. I have and will continue to empty my bank account for him. I don't like asking for help and have done so on any kind of platform but he is so important to me amd I could never live with myself if I didn't try everything possible. Please consider donating if you have any extra and are feeling generous, I appreciate every bit of help more than you'll ever know. Please I just want my baby boy to come home.

I understand a lot of people are going through a lot now days and I'll understand if you can't donate. If you can reblog please do, I really need the help.

So many years ago back when indoor/outdoor cats were the norm I had a beloved cat named Oliver who spent 5 nights a week snuggling with me and his days and bi-weekly midnight excursions beating the shit out of every other neighborhood cat, a few dogs, and one time a whole squirrel which he dragged inside and released. He once released a live snake in my bed as a gift. He was a psychopathic murderer but he loved people, gosh he loved people.
Because of the fact he was constantly ready to fight a bitch he was always coming home bruised and battered but victorious. After the 3rd or 4th $100 visit for the vet to drain an abscess the vet taught us how to drain and clean an abscess. As my mother was a nurse we got quite comfortable with the procedure.
So an important nighttime ritual was to give my cat a good thorough sniffing about the ears and neck for any suspiciously sweet smells (easiest telltale of an abscess) so that we could drain and clean it ASAP before we needed antibiotics. (Yes we should've tried to keep him in away from fights but it was a different time and my dad refused to have an indoor litterbox)
Now I have not had to find, drain, or clean an abscess on any pets for over a decade as my cats today are spoiled indoor darlings who wouldn't survive on the streets for a night much less 17 years.
However every night I still give each cat a few sniffs. Gang I was halfway to the bathroom for peroxide and a scalpel before I remembered I spent the day making chikki/ Indian mixed nut brittle and IM the one indelibly impregnated with the scent of sugar and sweat, not my cat.

Behold an innocent who would like me to stop sniffing her ears. And some really good chikki. I had no idea I was subconsciously checking for abscesses till I was hunting for the peroxide and trying to remember how long to disinfect a scalpel for 😂😂😂

I took my cat to the vet, and the vet said he was perfect and stupid because he had a "nice little feather in his head" instead of a brain.

Is this vet aware of werewolves? If not I'm just trying to imagine how they try to explain a giant omega wolf:
bela: ...i found it
vet: ...sure.
both: *staring at the giant cowering wolf in the corner*
vet: i dont get paid enough for this.
The vet is just done with life after hours of work, wondering if they are hallucinating a giant wolf...

Always call your vet and ask if meds can be mixed with food first as not all medications can be, but, most common antibiotics and simple meds you’ll encounter can!
Also ask if the meds can be mixed with specific temperatures, often times a bird may not be willing to take a cold fluid from a syringe but will be excited to take some warm mush as it simulates being fed by a parent or mate. Again this is something that won’t work for all medications but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Some mixing ideas could be:
Non-sugar fruit juices
Baby food
Hand rearing formula
Soaked pellets
Smooshed fruits
Cooked sweet potato
Thinned nut butters
If your bird has never taken food from a syringe before I would ensure to practice having them take just the plain food first so their first experience is tasty! This will also help set them up for the expectation of eating what comes out of the syringe. The first time you try they may get thrown off by something being injected in to their mouths and instinctually shake it out before they realize it’s food. Once they get the hang of eating from the syringe then I would go in with the medication mix and follow up with one more syringe of plain food to wash it all down, end on a very tasty note, and keep them excited for the next dose.
When injecting be sure to go slow, if you fill the beak too much they may shake out the excess and lose some of their dose! Small quantities that fill about 1/3 of the lower beak at a time is plenty. If you have a large med dose this may mean a few repetitions of food syringes between half doses so they’re able to handle the gross taste. I did mine without enough food today so Newt shook after swallowing to express how bad it tasted, next time I will add more food to it to further hide the medication flavour.

Why do huskies/shiba inus have such a bad rep with vets? Do they really howl at the slightest thing?
Huskies are the ultimate drama llamas plus they are extremely, creatively vocal about anything that mildly inconveniences, much less goes as far as actually distressing, them.

Shiba Inu are operating cat software on dog hardware. They are typically, as adults, independent and very stand-offish towards strangers. So now you, a stranger, have dared to touch them and vengeance will be had.
Also. Corgis. So cute, so sweet, until you try to restrain them in any way and then they forcefully remind you that they are bred to deal with cranky thousand pound cattle.
