Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if a Rivera besides Imelda had died first.
I think it can be presumed that Imelda died first and was very not pleased to see Héctor, so after being rejected by her a few times he gave up and focused all his efforts on getting over the bridge to see Coco. (The miscommunication here gives me a headache every time I think of it.) This was all probably before the other Riveras died, since they show no sign of recognizing him when they see him make a run for it. (The twins would know who he is, but that’s a different story.)
But what if Imelda hadn’t died first? What If someone else had?
Suppose it was, say, Victoria.
We don’t know anything about how Victoria died; all we know is that it was not of old age like her mother and grandmother; she must have died decades before Coco did, given how much younger than Elena she looks.
So suppose, whatever she died of, she died a few years earlier, even before Imelda, and was the first Rivera to enter the Land of the Dead except Héctor. She’s at the Department of Family Reunions, and they ask her for the names of her family so they can reunite her with anyone who’s dead, and so that they’ll have her on file to greet her living family whenever they arrive.
As far as Victoria knows, she doesn’t have any dead family members (unless there’s people from Julio’s side of the family), but she lists everyone she’s related to anyway, because of course she wants to be able to meet her mother and father and sister when they arrive, so they won’t arrive alone, not like she is. And they take all the names she’s written down and see if any of those names, or her own name, have appeared on any other list.
And lo and behold, someone notices that Victoria listed Socorro “Coco” Rivera as her mother and Imelda Rivera as her grandmother, and that Héctor Rivera who tries to jump the bridge every year listed Imelda as his wife and Coco as his daughter. So they send some people over to find Héctor wherever he is (since Imelda and the twins are still alive, and Coco’s still healthy, he’s probably not forgotten enough to be in Shantytown yet, even though he’s never had an ofrenda) and tell him that his recently deceased granddaughter is waiting to meet him.
Héctor is, well, shocked. He’s excited to find out that he has a granddaughter, he’s grieving to have that granddaughter join him before her time, and he’s shocked to have a granddaughter in the first place.
Logically, Héctor knows that it makes sense that he has a granddaughter. But he still pictures Coco as three or four years old, and he hasn’t seen her since. It’s one thing to know, in theory, “Oh yeah Coco’s probably married with kids by now,” and quite another thing to meet one of his daughter’s daughters. Especially when that granddaughter is older than he is. Especially when that granddaughter is older than he remembers his daughter being.
Victoria doesn’t have a very good opinion of her grandfather, of course. All she knows about him is that he’s the man who left his family behind for some stupid musical fantasy, breaking his wife’s and daughter’s hearts.
But she didn’t know he was dead. Her grandmother is still alive and well; why should her grandfather be any different?
And if he had died, well…he’d never bothered to contact any of them in life, but shouldn’t someone have contacted his family upon his death? Or, if he’d never deigned to even speak of them, well…if he was a famous musician, shouldn’t his death have been announced in newspapers and on the radio? Victoria was barely more than a toddler when the famous Ernesto de la Cruz died, but she remembered people talking about it in the shoe shop, before her grandmother had snapped at them to buy a pair of shoes or leave.
And he’s so young. It’s not immediately obvious at first, but as she sees him move around, movements at once awkward and excited, she realizes it. He has a full head of dark hair; his movements are spry and agile, and his voice is the strong voice of a young singing man.
“So you’re my…my granddaughter?” Héctor asks, stumbling over the words.
“Apparently,” Victoria says, folding her arms and glaring at him.
Surprisingly, he laughs. “Ay, you look just like mi vida when you do that!”
She blinks.
“Imelda,” he explains. “She used to give me just that look - never mind. Tell me, how is she? How is Coco? Are they all right?”
“They’re…fine,” Victoria says slowly, disconcerted by the intensity of his questioning.
“I was so worried,” he says. “I never got to see them, you know, they never put my photo up. I was worried that something happened to them, but they never came here, so I knew they must be all right…Do you know if something happened to my photo? We took one as a family when Coco was a baby, you know, and we took extra good care of it. I remember the boys were upset because we didn’t let them be in it.”
“The who?” Victoria asks. However she imagined her grandfather, she definitely didn’t imagine this man who asks earnestly about the welfare of his family, saying his worries and fond memories in one breath.
“The twins,” he explains. “Oscar and Felipe, your…wow, I guess they’re your great-uncles now. Wow. I can’t believe it. It’s been so long…”
His face falls.
“So Coco’s your mother?” he asks. “I can’t believe that too. Do you have any siblings? Wait, who did she marry? Who’s your father?” Without giving Victoria a chance to answer he rushes and rambles on. “I want you to tell me everything, please. About you, and your family, and how Imelda is - she’s nearly seventy by now, isn’t she? - and about your father and mother. I can’t believe Coco’s married. I wish I could’ve been there. I used to dream about what her wedding would be like. I still do sometimes. I never got to see her all grown up and beautiful - I know she has to be beautiful if she looks even a drop like Imelda - being courted by some young man - I know Imelda would never have let anyone but the best even consider marrying Coco - ay, I wish I could have been there. I died when Coco was only four, I never got to see any of this.”
“You what,” Victoria says.
No, I haven’t spent all day thinking of this. I’ve spent all of last week thinking of this.
I also have a scenario in mind with the twins but I’m not typing it now because this is quite long enough.
…I have a new fic idea now.

I have another coco canon divergence idea that I've been mulling on recently
it's victoria being pulled into a mystery, but this time whilst she's alive.
so essentially the plot is:
- Victoria wants to upskill her designing skills for shoemaking as her abuela is now in her mid-60s and should be retiring, but won't. Also, fashion has evolved since the 1920s.
- So she (in her early-mid 20s) decides to upskill by going to a technical school in Mexico City for shoemaking/design, that kind of thing. I want to research this to make it accurate, if I was to go full blown on this.
- Anyway. It's a year course and her family by now has the money necessary to send her (again, need to check the realities of this kind of technical training in 1960s Mexico) and she has an apartment in Mexico City.
- This technical school happens to also offer music courses.
- She shares her apartment with fellow students, one who happens to be a music student
- Unlike Elena, who absolutely virulently loathes music, Victoria has always struck me as someone who is, at best, apathetic towards music, so she's fine with musicians, she just doesn't listen to music out of respect to her abuela and mama.
- So she's fine with the music student
- Also there's a lesbian subplot because yes. With who? Idk.
- ANYWAY so this music student has this side hobby via Ernesto de la Cruz and is trying to get information on his early career and is trying to figure out who his early touring partner was.
- Which is her new roommate's dead abuelo, but they both have no idea.
- Anyway, Victoria is like: 'oh, my name is Victoria Rivera [Julio's last name] and I'm from Santa Cecilia'
- the MS (music student): 'oh cool anyone in your family know ernesto de la cruz?'
- victoria: 'no my abuela hates music and ernesto.'
- MS: 'hm. anyway did you say your maternal last name was rivera because crazy thing, there's this obscure travelling partner ernesto had known only as 'h rivera'. heard of him'?
- victoria, curiosity piqued: 'sure I'll ask'
- Victoria asks her tios about this not her abuela or mama she's not cruel. Her tios reluctantly admit that yes, her abuela's husband did travel with and disappear on a tour with ernesto de la Cruz in 1921 and yes, they were childhood best friends
- music student, upon learning this: interesting
anyway it then divulges into this mystery where they puzzle out that héctor was the real musician (writer) this whole time and that he kind of died in late 1921 and isn't it like. highly suspicious that ernesto went on to use héctor's songs as his own + without telling his family that he was, y'know, dead???
victoria has an identity crisis and kisses a pretty lady.
Imelda and coco are eventually told and coco is like. fuck me that's tragic but it makes a shitload more sense then héctor just ditching us and an embittered imelda is like. yeah. wish ernesto was still around so I could murder him but I'll settle for suing his estate for plagiarism :).
when imelda dies, she's already had héctor's picture up for a few years (because #regret and #love of my life) but doesn't expect anything from it because y'know héctor has been dead decades and probably moved on by now and it's all her fault for assuming the worst.
and it's not like sunshine and rainbows when héctor and imelda reunite but it's a whole lot better than canon and héctor is like: it was very strange 1) having people recognise that I wrote ernesto's songs and 2) learning that he murdered me thanks to the granddaughter I didn't know I had??? also I love you but like. very hurt that you thought the worst of me for so long.
and imelda is like: that's fair and they heal and shit.
and maybe thanks to imelda's lawsuit money, victoria gets proper treatment for her cancer and lives a long gay life.
okay. that was a lot more words than expected. sleeping now.

My OC's in the Knights Radiant Quiz
@illarian-rambling did this thing recently where she took the Knights Radiant Quiz for her ocs. Thought it was cool so I'm doing it too lol.
The Legend of Orian Goldeneye:
Jas: Willshaper (81%). Considering what her motives are in the story, this tracks nicely.
Killian: Skybreaker (78%). I feel he'd be more of an ancient order Skybreaker, operating within his own moral code with an understanding of how rules are imperfect.
Orian: Edgedancer (77%). It kind of fits his personality, and he would love to slide around.
Henrik: Skybreaker (74%) and Stoneward (74%). Man was born to be a Skybreaker, he's a garrison captain after all. Stoneward also fits him, as a soldier.
Diana: Lightweaver (74%). She is a musician, her morals can be questionable, and she disagrees with Henrik about many things.
Azura: Lightweaver (57%) and Elsecaller (57%). She is very much into the subterfuge aspect of the Lightweavers. She's also decent at tactics, a theme of the Elsecallers, and dreamshaping is somewhat similar to moving through Shadesmar.
Morpheus: Elsecaller (63%). Very similar to Azura, but he's much more on the cautious side.
Tales from Valaria:
Octavian: Windrunner (77%). Like me! And it also fits his role in The Watcher and the Thief, though by the time The Hunter the Myth and the Cure comes around it's changed drastically.
Draven: Willshaper (73%). He does what he wants, doesn't really care for rules but he does have his own moral code.
Reese: Lightweaver (62%). I'm not too sure about this one, mostly because her morals align closer to a Willshaper or Edgedancer in my opinion. But she does tend to hide her true self from others.
Luc: Windrunner (78%). Fits his morals and his job, he's quite protective.
Hector: Windrunner (79%). Same as Luc, makes sense since he's Luc's mentor, but I'd say Luc has a little bit more Skybreaker in him than Hector.
Damian: Edgedancer (70%). Bodes well for Caenum to have a heir that cares for his people. He was also willing to give up his freedom if it meant his captor didn't get what she wants, so he's fairly selfless.
Kaira: Lightweaver (57%) (Also -20% for Bondsmith apparantly???). She's very good at deception, but that's the only thing that would be Lightweaver about her. Personally I think she'd be a better Elsecaller, due to her search for power.
Rift: Elsecaller (54%). I don't know how he got this one, he has average wisdom and intelligence is his dump stat. But he would definitely make good use of Shadesmar (for "borrowing" purposes).
(Superhero Story):
Rowan: Elsecaller (74%). Makes sense, he's fairly cautious, he's the leader of the group (not very good at it), and he's willing to do anything to get what he wants.
Victoria: Windrunner (63%). She definitely likes working in a team, and is really attached to and protective of those she cares about, to the point where she'd do anything to save them.
Ollie: Truthwatcher (81%). Considering their powers make them a great spy, fueled by their natural curiosity, this fits.
Sam: Stoneward (61%). She's the group's tank, the most reliable out of all of them, and fairly optimistic.
Whisper: Elsecaller (70%). What is with my villains and getting Elsecaller? Is it because they all seem to be selfish bastards who do anything for what they want? (Nevertheless this does fit him).

Two grandfathers with younger generations. Elena is 2 years old, Antonio is 4, Victoria is 6.
In my headcannons, Bruno has a tummy in a healthy old age and becomes very soft and cozy. Hector remains a wiry stick, but gray hair overtakes him early
(God, I swear Bruno is laughing at Hector's receding hairline)
Fortunately, Hector does not pass this gene on to future generations, Imelda solved this problem :D
Someday I will make adequate backgrounds, but for now I accept what I have.

What’s your headcanon about all the dead Rivera ages?
Thanks for the ask! Here's what I think:
We all know that Hector died at the young age of 21. 💔
I headcanon Victoria as the first one to die of the main group. I want to believe she was around her early 40s.
About 10 years later, Imelda died when she was in her mid to late 70s.
Oscar & Felipe were next, and both died two or three years after her. They were 65-66.
Rosita was next to die four years later at 50.
I headcanon that Coco's memories go back and forth to when she was little and when Julio was last alive. Ten years ago in 2007. (Note that the movie came out in 2017) Coco is 99 in the movie. 100 when she died. So, Julio was 89. I headcanon they were the same age when they met.
I hope this wasn't too confusing! 💫

BALITANG HANEP: Chef Tiktoker 'Cooking with Fred' brings cartoon recipes to life by mirroring skills with Glitch Techs' Hi-5 to make a Muchacho Taco [#RadyoBanderaEXCLUSIVE]
VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- In the coruscating culinary scene of Victoria, British Columbia in Canada… A talented chef and TikToker is known as 'Cooking with Fred' is gaining recognition for his exceptional and imaginative cooking skills. The self-proclaimed "cartoon foodie" has become a sensation by recreating most loved dishes from famous kid's shows and TV shows, such as Glitch Techs.
One resident chef lives in Vancouver, the aforesaid country with 4 decades of experience in the culinary industry, captured the hearts of viewers with his creativity and passion for cooking. As a devoted fan of Glitch Techs, an animated Nickelodeon series streaming on Netflix, Fred decided to recreate one of the iconic dishes featured in an episode called 'Age of Hinobi', which released in late-February 2020.
(VIDEO COURTESY: CookingwlthFred via TikTok VIDEO)
His viral video on TikTok (owned by Bytedance Limited) to showcase their skills by mirroring fictional cartoon character (Hector "Hi-5" Nieves), a part-time family-owned chef at a Tex-Mex (Texas and Mexico) food truck. Aside on that, he is currently a gamer employee of Hinobi Technology in Bailley City, Texas, United States of America (U.S.A.). Hector is also a Stringer Correspondent of Nickelodeon News in his same but close resident of Bailley City, per our news organization affiliate of OneNETnews. Fred meticulously followed the steps depicted in a streaming episode premiere on Season 1. He shared the entire process in a TikTok video, garnering attention from food enthusiasts and Glitch Techs' fans alike.
(FILE PHOTO COURTESY for REPRESENTATION: Taco Bueno)
The Muchacho Taco is a mouthwatering fusion of Mexican flavors. Featuring a soft tortilla wrapped around seasoned ground beef, smothered in melted cheese, tangy salsa and a dollop of sour cream or anything for sauce condiments that has become a beloved staple for Hinobian streaming fans of the show. The dish has gained recognition beyond a fictional realm.
(SCREENGRAB COURTESY: cookingwlthfred via Tiktok VIDEO)
The connection between 'Cooking With Fred' and 'Glitch Techs' offers an exciting avenue for fans to continue engaging with its televised streaming series. Fred's talent for recreating the show's iconic dishes allows viewers to experience the magic of their favorite cartoon in the real world, including Texas state in America and British Columbia in Canada. The possibilities for future collaborations between Fred and Glitch Techs' enthusiasts could lead to exciting culinary adventures.
(FILE MAGAZINE PHOTO COURTESY: LegitEricRobles via X Network / Glitch Techs Manual)
Regardless of the cancellation of 'Glitch Techs' after its 3rd Season by Nickelodeon Animation Studio (NAS), a leaked episode script caused some potential legal concerns to the public, leading to be privately shelved from a streaming platform. Fans remain hopeful for a revival, speculating that a potential Season 3 may find a new home on a different streaming platform or syndicated TV network such as Nickelodeon Asia, ABS-CBN Entertainment and iWantTFC. The problem is, they may have a possible trade secret obtained by Fred, or just for references that do not need to mirror cooking steps with a style of MasterChef like Gordon James Ramsay in Scotland, United Kingdom.
We reached out to Mr. Fred for the ongoing statement and response to OneNETnews, but was not available to respond for a comment via E-Mail correspondent. Looking forward, Hinobian fans between both 'Cooking with Fred' and 'Glitch Techs' eagerly anticipate the potential in future seasons. Fred is potentially soon to collaborate as a guest actor individual if approved for a big break in later episodes of Season 3, awaiting the officials between NAS and Paramount Global, following after a clearance of the writer's strike in Hollywood to reach a fair deal or to scrap the said streaming TV show forever. His culinary abilities could carry an additional aspect to the gaming experience, blending the worlds of cooking and gaming in perfect harmony.
In a world where creativity knows no bounds, 'Cooking With Fred' and 'Glitch Techs' exhibit the power of imagination, overcoming any barrier between fiction and reality, one delicious Taco dish at a time.

Re-animated (No Zombies!) - a returned au.
By emletish
On Archive of Our Own (account required)
Status: Complete; 83,331 words
Summary: Re-animated, that was the word the newspapers chose to use. It sounded less creepy. Undead gave off the wrong impression, after all. It made people think of zombies and all those terrible movies Abel liked. No Zombies!
My thoughts: The author is so good at putting so much personality into the narration! It’s really nice.

Cordonian Royal Family (A Bad Romance Extra)
I wanted to share these images because they're fabulous. I didn't make most of them, I suck at these things, but I love them and felt like they should be seen by others. Of course, me being me, I wanted to give information about each character but if I'm doing that, then it needs to read like an article in the Cordonian Star so here we are. Enjoy! The article is under the cut.
These images were all generated by the AI art app Wonder. For anyone interested, you may see my AI art disclaimer here.
It’s been one year since the death of His Royal Majesty Constantine Arthur Augustus Hector Rys in an unfortunate ceiling collapse at the palace just days before the current king announced his engagement to the queen.
King Constantine was married three times, sired two sons, and fostered three other children. Here is a look at the royal family today.
Photos by Ana De Luca.
His Royal Majesty Liam Nicolai Ulysses Augustus Rys
King of Cordonian, Duke of Stormholt, Duke of Bellmede, Duke of Valtoria, Earl of Alriel, Earl of Ennan, Earl of Lykos, Baron of Throngate, Lord of the Isles and Commander in Chief of the Cordonian Royal Forces.
From Spare to Heir. Never meant for the throne, this second-born son of royalty was thrust into the role of leader when his older brother abdicated. Many believe he was always more temperamentally suited for the role. Indeed, after a rocky start, Cordonia has thrived under his leadership.
Tied romantically to only a small number of women in his youth, (and one alleged man), King Liam’s younger years were as devoid of scandal and impropriety as his brother’s were full of them. He received good marks at the prestigious, elite Wellingford Academy and later Epton College.
He managed to stay out of the spotlight for the most part until his eventful social season. Marrying a commoner and a foreigner, changing the laws of succession for his children, and legalizing gay marriage, he has a track record as a progressive and is viewed favorably by the majority of Cordonians.
Her Royal Majesty Riley Catherine Brooks Rys
Queen of Cordonian, Duchess of Stormholt, Duchess of Bellmede, Duchess of Valtoria, Countess of Alriel, Countess of Ennan, Countess of Lykos, Baroness of Throngate, Lady of the Isles and Champion of the Realm.
Rumored to have had a contentious relationship with the late king, this last-minute addition to the present king’s social season was a long shot. As an American and a commoner, she reportedly was not King Constantine’s first, or even second, choice for his son.
Always King Liam’s favorite, however, she was a front-runner from the moment she set foot on Cordonian soil, her beauty, charm, and grace captivating the nation. Meeting at a bar in New York where she was his waitress, their whirlwind romance seemingly ended in scandal, accusations of infidelity, and the king’s engagement to another woman.
Their love endured despite the obstacles and in an astonishing turn of events, not only was her name cleared, but the king made a move as historically unprecedented as it was shocking, breaking a council-approved political engagement and marrying for love.
Prince Leonardo Tiberius Constantine Fabian Rys
Prince of Cordonia, Duke of Abanthus, Earl of Ebrimel, Baron of Auverneen.
Born into privilege and wealth, he threw it all away in what many consider a selfish and short-sighted move led by the vagaries and hubris of youth. Other interpretations range from the young prince simply recognizing that his brother was better suited to rule; to unsubstantiated rumors that he was pressured into stepping down by his father.
Prince Leo bounced around between elite boarding schools, both domestic and abroad before making barely passable marks at Epton College. Dubbed by the media as the Playboy Prince of the Mediterranean, he has been romantically linked to the likes of Olivia Nevrakis, Duchess of Lythikos, Princess Margot of Auvernall, and American actress Victoria Fontaine.
Abdicating both as Crown Prince of Cordonian and Duke of Stormholt, he retains the title of Prince as well as holding the titles Duke of Abanthus, Earl of Ebrimel, and Baron of Auverneen while living abroad. The Playboy Prince is still unattached.
Captain Drake Nolan Walker
Lord Commander of the Queen’s Guard, Knight Protector of the Realm.
Born to commoners, he and his sister were taken in and raised by the royal family after his father’s death in service to the crown. Having lived in the palace since the age of six, he became a ward of the crown at age fourteen and received the same basic upbringing and education as the princes.
Unlike the princes, he dedicated his life to military service, later following in his father’s footsteps by transferring to the Royal Guard. During King Liam’s social season, Captain Walker was charged with killing a man. All charges were eventually dropped, and he was exonerated when it came out that he was acting undercover on the king’s orders as a de facto member of Queen Riley’s security detail.
He currently serves the crown as captain of the Queen’s Guard, lives at the palace, remains close friends with the king, and is by all accounts deeply devoted to the queen.
Her Grace Savannah Evangeline Walker Beaumont
Duchess of Ramsford.
Like her brother, the duchess became a ward of the crown after the death of her father when she was twelve years old. She retained the title of Lady until the advent of her marriage to the Duke of Ramsford, Bertrand Beaumont, raised her status to duchess.
Scandal rocked Duchy Ramsford when it was revealed that the duchess had a child out of wedlock. She left Cordonia, taking the heir to Ramsford with her. She lived abroad for a year before returning and reuniting with the duke. They were married in an elaborate ceremony a few months after her return.
Unidentified sources close to the couple report the marriage is strained and often rocky.
His Grace Bertrand Atticus Beaumont
Duke of Ramsford, Leader of the House of Lords, Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal.
Taking on the role of Duke at a young age, he, along with the rest of the world, was shocked by the return of his presumed dead father, the late Duke Barthelemy Beaumont. His Grace relinquished control of the duchy to his father only to pick up the mantle again a few months later when the late Duke of Ramsford was killed in a head-on collision on his way home from a meeting at the palace.
He currently serves in the House of Lords as The Lord Leader, a position he has held for the last five years.
His ties to the monarchy are many and varied. His marriage to Savannah Walker made him a de facto member of the royal family, as did making the queen an official member of House Beaumont as part of his sponsorship of her during the king’s social season. His younger brother, Lord Maxwell Beaumont serves as the queen's top advisor and personal assistant. Prince Leo is a close friend, was the best man at his wedding, and is godfather to his son.
Lord Barthelemy Jackson Beaumont
Future Duke of Ramsford.
As the only child of the Duke and Duchess of Ramsford, young Lord Barthelemy is the heir to the duchy, nephew to the Lord Commander of the Queen’s Guard Captain Drake Walker, and to the queen’s personal assistant, Lord Maxwell Beaumont, has Prince Leo as a godfather and is treated as a grandchild by the queen mother.
Her Grace Olivia Vanderwall Nevrakis
Duchess of Lythikos, Counsellor of State.
Also a ward of the crown, Duchess Olivia Nevrakis lost her parents in a tragic car accident when she was five years old. The late Queen Eleanor sent for her, and she was raised and educated at the palace, taking over control of Duchy Lythikos from her aunt at the age of sixteen.
Lythikos has thrived under her leadership, and she is beloved by the people. A suitor in King Liam’s social season, she has also been romantically linked to his brother, Prince Leo. Sources close to the duchess report that her participation in the social season was out of courtesy and duty as she and the king have always enjoyed a close friendship, but nothing more.
She currently resides at Lykos Keep, sits on the king’s small council, and divides her time between Lythikos and the capital.
Her Royal Majesty Regina Beatrice Amaranth Rys
Queen Mother, Dowager Duchess of Stormholt, Countess of Loutreo.
Born in Krona, her father was the younger brother of the late Duke, Karolos Amaranth. The current Duchess of Krona, Adelaide Amaranth, is her cousin. A countess in her own right, she became queen when she married King Constantine after a lengthy courtship.
She was the late king’s third wife. Marrying later in life, she had no biological children of her own but was instrumental in the upbringing of both her stepsons and the other three children entrusted to the monarchs’ care.
Now a widow, the queen mother continues to live at the palace, advises the queen, and works with the various charities she has championed over the years, notably Hope Haven a nationwide organization that works with homeless youth, and The Empowerment Zone a nonprofit helping single mothers.
Her Royal Highness Eleanor Elizabeth Hana Olivia Rys
Crown Princess of Cordonia.
Born just six days ago, Cordonia’s newest princess has already captivated the hearts of the nation. The king and queen have retreated to the queen’s estate in Valtoria while they adjust to new parenthood, taking with them, among others, the queen's personal assistant, Lord Maxwell Beaumont. No nannies are yet in residence, but Duchess Hana Lee, the queen’s best friend and official Master of the Household, is.
This exclusive photo, which originally appeared in The Cordonian Star yesterday, is the only public photograph of the crown princess, who was named after her grandmother, the late Queen Eleanor.

Showdown 2k24 Nominations!
alright, redoing this post now that I can give a concrete start date of Monday the 15th of January!
Nominations for the tournament are open up until the start date, and you can submit anyone who could reasonable be considered a companion, either by sending me an ask or by filling out
this form.
If you make your nomination via the form you can also submit some propaganda to go alongside the poll. Anyone who was considered a regular at any point in the last year will automatically be included, as well as anyone who was in the original tournament (+/- a couple I might miss or misremember as being a regular because I don't have old lists anywhere). The exception to this is last years winner, Rose Tyler, she will not be getting a place in the main tournament, however after the final I will run a poll to see if our new winner can beat her. (oh and also maybe I'll leave the TARDIS out but not fully decided yet)
The tournament is going to be run in the same way I did @adventure-showdown, meaning I'll keep companions from different periods of the show and different mediums segregated at first so the nicher ones don't immediately get knocked out, and slowly get mingled together. The exact details are going to depend on just how may characters get included.
Errm yeah, so go wild, nominate whoever you like (as long as they are a companion). If they are from teh TV show they have to be on this list to qualify, and for EU companions I'm going with them needing a TARDIS wiki page, and also I will give them a quick proof read to make sure they pass, the bar is low but it is there
if you want to submit an alternate version of the character sorry but main version only unless you can give a really good reason, eg regenerations of a time lord
also, if they are primarily from another franchise that'll be a no
The full list of contestents is under the cut and will be updated as nominations come in. Its sorted by medium and then to be alphabetical by first name. if an eu companion exists in multiple mediums i just sort of picked one or I put them under the other category, people who exist in real life are also sorted into their own category. There are some characters under Classic Who/NuWho who were not companions on TV but were in the EU. Companions who's names are in green have had propaganda submitted for them, if they're not in green then they don't, and just because someone has propaganda doesn't mean i wont accept more

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more … March 4
1877 – On this date Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake premiers at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. 2010's much-laureled drama horror flick, "Black Swan" was rooted in this piece. It's a testament to the work's lasting impact.
1853 – Major General Sir Hector MacDonald, KCB, DSO (d.1903), also known as Fighting Mac, was a distinguished Victorian soldier.
The son of a crofter, MacDonald left school before he was 15, enlisted in the Gordon Highlanders as a private at 17, and finished his career as a major general, "one of only a few British Army generals who rose from the ranks on his own merit and professionalism." He distinguished himself in action at Omdurman (1898), became a popular hero in England and Scotland, and was knighted for his service in the Second Boer War. Posted to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) as Commander-in-Chief of British forces, he committed suicide in 1903 following accusations of homosexual activity with local boys.
Young MacDonald first distinguished himself in Afghanistan. In 1879, he was with a small patrol who found themselves ambushed by about two thousand enemy troops. Although only an enlisted man of low rank, MacDonald took command of his comrades and led them in a brilliant bayonet charge that drove off the enemy.
In recognition of his resourcefulness and bravery, MacDonald was offered a choice of an officer's commission or the Victoria Cross. MacDonald chose the officer's commission. As Colonel during the Sudan campaign, he again displayed uncommon bravery by beating back a Dervish charge upon the British flank, averting a disastrous defeat.
During the Boer War Hector MacDonald continued to distinguish himself with numerous victories and brilliant charges. It was during this time he acquired the nickname, "Fighting Mac," given by an admiring press and the troops under his command.
Hector MacDonald was a "soldier's officer." A mustang officer, he had been an enlisted man himself and understood all too well the life his men led. They loved him because he respected them, unlike most of the upper class officers. His series of spectacular successes resulted in his promotion to Brigadier General. Queen Victoria awarded him a Knighthood.
After the Boer War, he was placed in command of the British army in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka).
Ceylon, to MacDonald, was an inactive and uninteresting military command. At the same time he was presented with temptations in the form of several young men who were interesting and sexually active. He ruffled more feathers by forcing the unkempt and ill-disciplined British troops, most of them sons of British planters, to show more spit and polish.
Rumors began circulating that he was having a sexual relationship with the two teenage sons of a local businessman, and that he was patronizing a "dubious club" attended by British and Sinhalese youths.
Matters came to a crisis when a tea-planter informed Ridgeway that he had surprised Sir Hector in a railway carriage with young men. Further allegations began coming in from other well-connected members of the colonial establishment. There was a threat of even more to come, involving up to almost a hundred witnesses who allegedly had witnessed homosexual activity.
Governor Ridgeway told MacDonald to return to London, telling the General that his main concern was to avoid a massive scandal: "Some, indeed most, of his victims ... are the sons of the best-known men in the Colony, English and native", he wrote, noting that he had persuaded the local press to keep quiet in hopes that "no more mud" would be stirred up.
One must also keep in mind that homosexuality or homosexual activity was not illegal in Ceylon at the time and even if the accusations were true, they were not illegal by local law and custom.
Upon his arrival home, Sir Hector was ordered by the Imperial Chief of Staff to return to Ceylon to face a court martial. This was ostensibly to "clear his name," but promised to be a kangaroo court to drum him out of the service in disgrace, thus getting rid of the ordinary soldier who had become an icon and hero to the empire, overshadowing his less capable or brave colleagues.
On March 25, 1903, in a Paris hotel room, the handsome soldier picked up a pistol, put it to his head and pulled the trigger. Major General Sir Hector MacDonald was dead by his own hand. Fighting Mac, the hero of many battles, had lost the last battle to the Army and political bureaucracy.
The suicide of the war hero caused great public shock. For the Government, part of the shock was the discovery that MacDonald had a wife and a son. In 1884 when he was 31, he had married a girl of fifteen in secret. They had seen each other only four times in the subsequent nineteen years. Lady MacDonald died in 1911. MacDonald's son became an engineer and died in 1951.
In an attempt to cover things up, the government planned for the General's funeral to be held in secret in Edinburgh. They rushed the effort to bring his body home quickly and bury him in near secrecy. Despite the Government effort to keep it a secret, the word got out. A staggering number of people turned out. A crowd of 30,000 people came to the funeral to pay their last respects. Over the next few weeks and months, thousands more from all over the world came to say farewell.
James Scott Skinner wrote a lament of almost unsurpassed beauty in his honor called Hector the Hero. (Below)
The poet, Robert W. Service, wrote a poem about him: Fighting Mac: A Life Tragedy (See below).
Turvile-Petre (R) at Mount Carmel
1901 – Francis Turville-Petre was a British archaeologist (d.1941), famous for the discovery of the Neanderthal 'Galilee Skull' in 1925 and his work at Mount Carmel, in what was then the British Mandate of Palestine, now Israel. He was a close friend of Christopher Isherwood and W H Auden.
The Galilee Skull
Francis Turville-Petre was born into a Catholic, landed gentry family in England. He went to Oxford University in 1920, studying physical anthropology and cultural anthropology (ethnology with archaeology and technology). Following the completion of his studies in Oxford, Turville-Petre went to work on excavations in the Levant. In 1925 he conducted digs in two caves in the Wadi el-Amud, Mugharet ez-Zuttiyeh (Robber's Cave) and Mugharet el-Emirah (Princes' Cave) near to the Sea of Galilee. It was in the former cave that he discovered the partial frontal cranial remains of a Neanderthal individual, named the 'Galilee Skull' or 'Galilee Man'. He was later invited to join excavations at Kebara Cave on Mount Carmel.
In 1928 he moved to Berlin, Germany and stayed at the Institute of Sexual Research, run by Dr Magnus Hirschfeld. Whilst based in Berlin Turville-Petre was an active member of the Scientific Humanitarian Committee, which campaigned for gay legal reform and tolerance, and attended the Congress of the World League for Sexual Reform (also founded by Hirschfeld) in Copenhagen in 1928.
Known by his friends as 'Fronny', Turville-Petre was openly gay. He encouraged his friend Christopher Isherwood to join him in Berlin, and together with W H Auden they enjoyed life, and especially the nightlife, in the city. Turville-Petre left Berlin in 1931, and took up residence on his private island of St Nicolas near Euboea, in Greece. Isherwood visited him there in 1933, and in 1959 Isherwood wrote a lightly-fictionalised version of Fronny in Down There on a Visit, where he is portrayed as Ambrose, the mad king of a small Greek island.
Turville-Petre died in Cairo, Egypt in 1941 at the age of 40.
1904 – The Georgia Supreme Court interprets the state's "crime against nature" law to include fellatio. It claims that the reason an 1817 English case came to the opposite conclusion was that fellatio "was not known to the law then."
1940 – Author, David Plante was born in Providence, Rhode Island, but has lived much of his life in London. Since the publication of his first novel, The Ghost of Henry James in 1970, Plante has proved to be one of the most prolific and experimental of contemporary writers, with eleven other novels, as well as many reviews, essays, and a nonfiction book, Difficult Women (1983), to his credit.
Plante is most noted for The Family (1978), The Country (1981), and The Woods (1982), his highly acclaimed 'trilogy'.
Plante's approach to homosexuality ranges from the explicit and emotionally violent, as in The Catholic, to the quietly transcending, as in his earlier novels.
Nikos Stangos and David Plante 1968
His most recent book is The Pure Lover, a memoir of Nikos Stangos, his partner of forty years.
Plante focuses not only on the varieties of love and sexuality but on the different expressions love and sexuality may take. He lives in London, Lucca Italy, and Athens Greece. He has dual citizenship, American and British.
1954 – Boris Moiseev is a Russian singer, choreographer, dancer, writer, actor, head of dance group and author of popular shows in Russia.
Boris Moiseev was born in prison; his mother was being held as a disenfranchised element during the communist regime. He spent his childhood and teenage years among his Jewish aunts in Mogilev. To strengthen his health, Boris was sent to a dancing school. Since then dancing took over all his interests and turned into a lifetime passion. He dropped out of the school, packed his bags and ran away to Minsk. There Boris got accepted to a choreography school and became a professional classical dancer.
Boris had all the skills to succeed as a classical dancer on the stage but he preferred modern dance. After his graduation Moiseev was expelled from Minsk because of his open homosexuality. He moved to Kharkiv where Moiseev became a ballet teacher but in 1975 he was expelled from Komsomol and left Kharkiv for Kaunas. He became a head of the Lithuanian dance group Trimitas. In 1978 Moiseev created famous dancing trio Ekspressiya which became a part of Alla Pugacheva's studio. In 1987 the trio quit working with Pugacheva and went on tours to the USA, Italy, and France. In addition Moiseev was invited to work as a ballet teacher for many American shows.
Moiseev came back to Russia in 1991, filming a documentary on Ekspressia. A revealing interview with Boris, who is openly gay, was recently published.
1966 – Wash West (Westmoreland), English Gay porn film director born; West recently emerged as a nationally-known independent film director with his 2006 release, "Quinceanera", which had a double Sundance win (Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize), and also picked up the Humanitas Prize, and the John Cassavetes Spirit Award. He has directed under the names Wash Westmoreland, Bobby Dazzler and Bud Light.
His first work in film was in Gay porn. Toolbox and Dr Jerkoff and Mr Hard were his first significant films both for BIG Video, a minor label and directed under the name Wash West. He wrote and directed Naked Highway for BIG Video. This film received high praise from many critics. The film is about one man's across country trip to find his boyfriend and meeting an outlaw in a stolen car. They decide to ride together. The film was filled with daring music, deep saturated color alternating with washed out sections and black and white sequences. The lead performances were engaging and the film was made for a fraction of the budget of most major porn releases of the time. The film was also released in a softcore edit and made available in more mainstream outlets.
In 1997, he won the award for "Best Video of the Year" at the Adult Erotic Gay Video Awards for this film. He also won directing, writing and videography awards at the 1998 AVN Awards, the "Best Gay Video" award. West also won an editing award for his work on Dr Jerkoff and Mr Hard and lead star Jim Buck was honored as the "Best Actor" for his performance in Naked Highway.
West directed the mainstream film The Fluffer, a film which was set in the Gay porn industry but contained no explicit sex. The film received generally favorable reviews and was successful enough that West proved he could helm more mainstream films. He co-directed this film with his professional and personal partner, Richard Glatzer.
In 2014 the two released the film Still Alice, a movie about a fifty-year-old linguistics professor who develops early onset Alzheimer's disease. Glatzer and Westmoreland were hired to adapt the book in 2011 by UK-based producing duo Lex Lutzus and James Brown. Julianne Moore was Glatzer and Westmoreland's first choice to play Alice. She was soon joined by Kristen Stewart and Kate Bosworth, who had been a long time fan of the book. Alec Baldwin then came on to round out the cast, he and Moore having worked together on the TV show 30 Rock.
Glatzer and Westmoreland changed the location for the film from Boston to New York and the university from Harvard to Columbia. Shooting took place over 23 days in March 2014.
The movie was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics, and released in December 2014. Some critics have suggested a connection between Glatzer's own battle with illness and the raw, honest depiction of illness in the film. Glatzer died from ALS in March 2015. Moore won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance. To date, the movie has grossed just under $42 million in its worldwide box office.
West was married to writer and director Richard Glatzer from September 2013 until Glatzer' death of complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) on March 10, 2015.
1970 – Edward Gal, born in Rheden, The Netherlands, is a Dutch dressage rider. He and his mount, the stallion Moorlands Totilas (nicknamed "Toto"), were triple gold medalists at the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games, becoming the first horse-rider partnership ever to sweep the three available dressage gold medals at a single FEI World Games. Going into the 2010 Games, they had amassed multiple world-record scores in international competition, leading one American journalist to call them "rock stars in the horse world".
Gal began his equestrian career as a jumper at age 14, beginning with ponies and graduating to larger horses at age 20. However, when he discovered his horse did not like jumping, he switched to dressage. While enjoying solid success in national and international competition, he did not become a truly dominant rider until he began competing with Totilas in 2008. Gal would later say that he and his team understood that Toto was a special horse after their first Grand Prix competition.
Gal represented The Netherlands at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, riding stallion "Undercover."
Gal is in a long-term relationship with teammate Hans Peter Minderhoud. Gal has been interviewed in several Dutch media outlets about his homosexuality and his relationship with Minderhoud.
1972 – The California DMV reports that while the majority of the 65,000 vanity license plates have presented no censorship issues for the department, a few plates, including “HOMO”, “GAYLIB”, “EAT ME”, and “LOVE69″ have been banned.
Today's Gay Wisdom:
Robert Service:
Fighting Mac:
A Life Tragedy
A pistol shot rings round and round the world;
In pitiful defeat a warrior lies.
A last defiance to dark Death is hurled,
A last wild challenge shocks the sunlit skies.
Alone he falls, with wide, wan, woeful eyes:
Eyes that could smile at death -- could not face shame.
Alone, alone he paced his narrow room,
In the bright sunshine of that Paris day;
Saw in his thought the awful hand of doom;
Saw in his dream his glory pass away;
Tried in his heart, his weary heart, to pray:
"O God! who made me, give me strength to face
The spectre of this bitter, black disgrace."

The burn brawls darkly down the shaggy glen;
The bee-kissed heather blooms around the door;
He sees himself a barefoot boy again,
Bending o'er page of legendary lore.
He hears the pibroch, grips the red claymore,
Runs with the Fiery Cross, a clansman true,
Sworn kinsman of Rob Roy and Roderick Dhu.
Eating his heart out with a wild desire,
One day, behind his counter trim and neat,
He hears a sound that sets his brain afire --
The Highlanders are marching down the street.
Oh, how the pipes shrill out, the mad drums beat!
"On to the gates of Hell, my Gordons gay!"
He flings his hated yardstick away.
He sees the sullen pass, high-crowned with snow,
Where Afghans cower with eyes of gleaming hate.
He hurls himself against the hidden foe.
They try to rally -- ah, too late, too late!
Again, defenseless, with fierce eyes that wait
For death, he stands, like baited bull at bay,
And flouts the Boers, that mad Majuba day.
He sees again the murderous Soudan,
Blood-slaked and rapine-swept. He seems to stand
Upon the gory plain of Omdurman.
Then Magersfontein, and supreme command
Over his Highlanders. To shake his hand
A King is proud, and princes call him friend.
And glory crowns his life -- and now the end,
The awful end. His eyes are dark with doom;
He hears the shrapnel shrieking overhead;
He sees the ravaged ranks, the flame-stabbed gloom.
Oh, to have fallen! -- the battle-field his bed,
With Wauchope and his glorious brother-dead.
Why was he saved for this, for this? And now
He raises the revolver to his brow.

In many a Highland home, framed with rude art,
You'll find his portrait, rough-hewn, stern and square;
It's graven in the Fuyam fellah's heart;
The Ghurka reads it at his evening prayer;
The raw lands know it, where the fierce suns glare;
The Dervish fears it. Honor to his name
Who holds aloft the shield of England's fame.
Mourn for our hero, men of Northern race!
We do not know his sin; we only know
His sword was keen. He laughed death in the face,
And struck, for Empire's sake, a giant blow.
His arm was strong. Ah! well they learnt, the foe
The echo of his deeds is ringing yet --
Will ring for aye. All else . . . let us forget.
