here's an update for all the "tOuRiSm iS fOr ThE pEoPlE" fucks. always remember that the second anyone steps foot on that land in the name of "tourism" or any other haole institution, that is colonizing&that person is a fucking explicit modern colonizer who made the conscious decision to be one and has spent a lot of fucking money on that trip to get their title. only that kine want more of their kin there-- don't pretend that shit is for anyone else.
drop dead of spontaneous combustion specifically, not even the sharks would want that pīlau fucking meat.

Can’t believe I haven’t seen anything on here about the rich-people-tourism submarine (steered by a video game controller???) that went missing on the way to the Titanic ruins.
This seems like the kind of story this site usually latches onto
UPDATE/EDIT (I put this in a reblog as well but just so ppl see it): it seems like it was possibly carrying researchers/explorers as well? I haven’t seen a manifest yet, but either way, I feel awful for the passengers/crew and their families, this has got to be harrowing for them
June 22, 2023, 2:50pm EST Update: OceanGate released a statement saying they believe those aboard the Titan submersible “have been sadly lost.” According to the US Coast Guard press conference at 3pm EST, the debris found is “consistent with catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber.”

so theres a lot of posts going round about the titanic wreck and the missing submarines; all of them that ive seen have made very good points about how shoddy the submersible seemed to be and how the company decided to wait eight hours before reporting it, and how this is a play stupid games, win stupid prizes for the ultra-wealthy who paid like 250grand a ticket for this thing.
but what i havent seen any posts about is how the titanic wreck is a gravesite and this tourism is disturbing the graves of over 1500 people.
sometimes its kinda hard to remember that those on the titanic were real people; it was over a century ago, the story has been romanticised in so many ways (like the movie), theres conspiracies theories galore that cloud everything with misinformation, but at the end of the day, those who died were real people.
do you want their names? heres a list of them; its a long read. and for fun, heres another site where you can see photos of the children and babies who died aboard.
their bodies are long gone and their lives long forgotten. all we have to remember them and honour them is the wreck itself. its all we have of them and it is their gravesite. its their tombstone.
caitlin doughty/ask a morticians video on the great lakes discusses the topic well, and why we should leave these shipwrecks alone because again, they are the gravesites of all the souls who died aboard those ships. we rarely have bodies to recover so we really are left just with the wreck.
and what really upsets me about titanic tourism is how the majority of those who died that night were not the ultra-wealthy rich folks you might picture when you think of ocean liners.
61% of the first class passengers survived
42% of the second class passengers survived
24% of the third class passengers survived
24% of the crew survived **
the majority of those who died that night were regular folk; not to be cliche, but they were just like us. titanics wreck is not only a gravesite for over 1500 people, its also a majority working class gravesite.
and look at us now. look at what were doing. the ultra-wealthy can pay the equivalent of peanuts to them to disturb a mass gravesite of the exact kind of people they exploit today to hold onto all their wealth.
its easy to point and laugh at these dumb idiots in their playstation controller submarine, seemingly held together with super glue and duct tape, but its also important to remember that what they were doing was simply disturbing a gravesite for fun. though the company does research, these guys werent down there to conduct research, they were there so they could brag about it to their friends. its like “climbing mount everest” while your sherpa does all the work.
if you cant tell, i have a lot of feelings about this. shipwrecks and ocean liners are one of my special interests and im currently building a (beginner’s) model of the titanic, for fucks sake. but i would never go down to see that wreck because its a fucking gravesite and we should not be disturbing their final resting place.

Ghost: *hands Johnny a tea* Here, this’ll sort ya out. Soap: I swear you fuckin’ Brits think tea’ll fix anything. Rudy: *confused* You’re both British, no? Alejandro: *kicks Rudy under the table*  *Whispers* Now you’ve done it…  Soap: *sipping tea* I identify as Scottish. Ghost: You can identify as a fuckin’ tree, mate. But it don’t change nothin’ Scotland’s part of Britain…you’re British. Soap: Geographically, aye. But that’s no’ the point!  Ghost: You know, none of the Welsh or Irish boys make as much noise about it as you… Soap: This doesny concern them! Rudy: *to Gaz* Are they going to fight… Did I miss something? Gaz: *who’s been sitting quiet* Nah mate, this is foreplay for them…I’m just glad my room’s not next to theirs…
Some Soap Headcanons/Thoughts from a Scottish person? 👇🏼
“Fuckin’ Brits!”
I’ve seen a lot of folks mention how odd it was, and that the writers have somehow forgotten about Scotland being a part of Britain.
Some folks have suggested that maybe this was just an attempt of them writing Soap as a Nationalist only to be countered with comments that he would have said “Fuckin’ English.” Because Scotland is still a part of Great Britain.
Keep in mind that “British” is often used as a generalisation by many for those living in the UK, so anyone who is strongly against the Union may refuse to associate themselves with it and strongly emphasise by affirming their  “I’m Scottish.”
Whatever Soap’s political views on the treaty of Union, signed all the way back on the 1st May 1707, matter not, because it’s purely banter. The Scots and English have history, and they’re playing with it (Especially when you consider Ghost's whole “Speak English.” stuff.)
As a Scottish person, who’s man was also born here, but his family are English, I often take the piss about his heritage…some of us are just like that, okay? 🤣
Soap’s accent.
I’ve seen it come up again and again in comments that Soap’s accent changes, and sometimes his Scottish accent seems forced…that his VA is clearly not a native, unlike Captain MacTavish’s…
Besides the fact that his VA is actually Scottish, Soap travels the world, he works closely with folks from all over, so it is no surprise to me that his accent is going to dip and change from time to time.
And the times where he’s “forcing it'' in"Alone ","Awa and Bile yer heid!” “It’s pishin’ it doon oot here.” c’mon now, he’s purposely trying to goad Ghost! 🤣
I worked in tourism, my colleagues came from all over. I’ve grown up with American TV shows and video games. And you bet I hear an accent and have to mimic it! When folk ask me where I’m from, it’s like a default to emphasise my accent as much as possible… oh and angry and drunk… tends to rev up the accent a little more too 👀
Basically, the accent is Scottish… with extra seasoning 🤣

In light of OceangateGate, by show of hands, who still wants Elon Musk to send them to Mars?
I mean, this whole thing (like I kept saying in tags) is both grimly fascinating and utterly predictable. Because there's this whole culture that you could and should do absolutely anything anywhere on earth, if you're able to pay for it, and at the same time that the companies offering these experiences can do absolutely everything to cut corners and make profits while placing people in incredibly dangerous situations. Whether it's the mountain adventure companies who take tens of thousands of dollars to shunt total novices up Mount Everest, or this, it's just like... MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE EVERYTHING INTO A HYPER-CAPITALIST COMMODITY JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE RICH AND/OR WANT TO TAKE MORE MONEY FROM RICH PEOPLE! MAYBE!
Within 48 hours of this story breaking, we have learned that:
The sub is not tested or certified by literally any regulatory agency, because "innovation can't wait for rules"
The sub is built of fucking camping store gear and a video game joystick, they did not pay for appropriately certified parts for the depths they wanted to go, and the company fired the guy who pointed it out, rather than dealing with any of the issues he raised
The CEO (one of those now missing on the sub) gave an interview talking about how "at some point, safety is just waste"
In 2018, a literal group of esteemed submersible experts wrote to this guy about how his plans were bad and he should feel bad; he ignored it
The sub does not have basic safety equipment, a readily available backup vehicle, an acoustic beacon, etc, and has gone missing several times before; it is only luck that they found it those times
You can't get out of the fucking thing by yourself even if it is on the surface
It used Elon Musk's Starlink satellites for communication and cited SpaceX as a private adventure tourism model (as noted, you know, the rockets that keep literally blowing up)
You have to sign an enormous waiver (after paying $250,000 a head) acknowledging this entire thing is completely unregulated and you may very well die
Which it looks like these poor schmucks either have or are soon going to, either by imploding instantly at great depth (the merciful option) or slowly suffocating in a freezing coffin in the dark (the absolute hell option)
Like?!?! How was this not COMPLETELY predictable?
And this happened WHILE THEY WERE GOING TO THE TITANIC
You know, the most famous case of Man vs. Nature technological hubris in history
I mean. This is the ultimate outcome and perfect encapsulation of the "no rules no regulations ever, everything including the most dangerous things are crassly commodified for money, everyone is an expert and/or experience is irrelevant, safety rules only exist to hamper innovation and disrupt The Free Market, costs should be cut on everything for more profits, and this should all continue regardless of the consequences or the impact on the other people then required to endanger themselves to rescue them" late-stage capitalist hellscape we are living in. And maybe I shouldn't have laughed, but uh, I laughed:

Lilia’s Lie: Dark Mirror, Carriages, Planes, & Land of the Red Dragons
This is one of my wildest titles for a theory yet haha! BUT I HAVE A POINT, I promise 🐦‍⬛
Tumblr media
This one line from Book 7 has been driving me nuts. This is the scene at the end of Lilia’s Farewell Party, because he’s losing his magic and is going to the Land of the Red Dragons to live the rest of his life. But that’s when Malleus comes in, puts everyone asleep, Overblots, etc etc. But the CARRIAGE is a fascinating, and I think purposeful detail.
Because what is this carriage for? The Dark Mirror is well established to take students anywhere they want in the world. In all the homeland events that come to mind, such as Scalding Sands, Harveston, Tamashina-Mina, White Rabbit Fest, etc, the characters travel to their homelands through the Dark Mirror. And all these lands are far away from Sage’s Island, which is expected because it’s repeatedly mentioned that Sage’s Island is isolated from the rest of the world.
Tumblr media
Well, Lilia’s party was in the Diasomnia dorm. Looking at the school maps, the Dark Mirror is a decent way from the Hall of Mirrors, which is where the student dorm mirrors are located. And since Lilia supposedly can’t teleport anymore due to the loss of magic, having a carriage transport him to the Dark Mirror made…some sense. However, the carriages have not been mentioned throughout the whole game- and I can’t immediately think of a vignette either. So why now? Why Lilia?
Tumblr media
What truly stirred up my suspicion is Lilia’s explanation to Silver. Silver says the Land of the Red Dragons is on the other side of the world, but Lilia claims he can just hop on a plane instead of using a broom or a boat.
BUT THIS IS A LIE.
Tumblr media
When looking at the Sage’s Island map (haha chicken drumstick 🍗), there is no visible airport that this mysterious carriage could take him to. Considering how isolated the people of this island are, an airport should be in well use, wouldn’t it? However, the airport should be visible somewhere from this map. If we’re being extremely generous with measurements, an airplane that can hold 50 passengers would require a 1200-1500 meter runway to safely land and take off. A standard narrow-body airline would require 1800-2100 meters for a runway. In miles, it isn’t a lot- just around one mile-ish. BUT THATS THE POINT. In this map of Sage’s Island, the BOATS are visible from this map. I have no idea how people measure stuff to figure out measurements for stuff in video games haha, but if passenger boats are visible from this birds-eye view, a runway AND an airport should very well be visible from the map too.
Tumblr media
But all this nonsense about a plane runway is completely unnecessary! Why? In the first Halloween event (Terror Is Trending), Ace explains Sage’s Island tourism industry and how difficult it is for outside people to visit the island. No one can use a plane to just get there, not even the islanders. After all, if Sage’s Island had an airport for the islanders, it would reasonably mean that outside people could land there by plane. But they don’t. They HAVE to board multiple ferry’s to get there, the airplane is only needed to get to a certain bus stop outside the island to even get to a boat.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, in Port Fest, Jack explicitly mentions passenger ships. Boats and ferries are the primary source of travel for islanders and outsiders regarding Sage’s Island. There is no easy way to both exit or enter the island WITHOUT the use of a mirror.
And again, all of this just brings up the question of why Lilia would use a plane or a boat of all things instead of the Dark Mirror. Much like the carriage, planes have only been mentioned one time in the story, where STYX when transporting the Overblotters through a cargo plane. Lilia’s lessening/lack of magic shouldn’t affect mirror travel at all, as Yuu can go through the Dark Mirror without any complications, even though they’re magicless.
So Your Honor, LILIA VANROUGE IS LYING! But that is nothing new haha…ha…But what does this mean exactly? Why the carriage, why a plane?
Tumblr media
The black carriage has some extraordinary abilities- even able to travel underwater. Since it picks up students from all over the world, it seems to have an ability to teleport somehow (or at least someone else is controlling this system). What’s interesting about this is that this carriage system is under Crowley’s control. He knows exactly where Lilia is going if the carriage would, for some reason, take Lilia instead of the mirror. Again, the use of the carriage is strange, because they specifically are meant to receive the students chose by the Dark Mirror- not serve as some public transportation system.
Plus, it’s also a bit frightening symbolically haha, because the carriages in NRC look much like hearse’s, vehicles that transport the dead and their coffins. Carriages were obviously the common hearse back in the day. In Lilia’s case, the carriage picking him up almost feels like a death sentence.
Tumblr media
But then I remembered of Ace’s line in the end of Book 4 when he and Deuce tried to rescue Yuu and Grim from Scarabia: “The mirror gate wasn’t open, so we couldn’t warp back with magic.”
The mirror gate wasn’t open because it was winter break at NRC, so it makes sense that for safety precautions, the mirror was shut down to prevent any outsiders from getting in. But that’s when I thought of another possibility: What if, before Malleus’ Overblot, the Dark Mirror was locked just like in Book 4? Meaning that Lilia HAD to travel by carriage, which seems to be able to travel to faraway lands.
Tumblr media
Of course, this is a bit more of a stretch. But the more I thought about it, I remembered Endless Halloween/Spectral Soirée and how even though time stopped, the Dark Mirror was able to be connected to another realm. Sure, it was this ghost realm and not an actual place outside NRC. But even when time is stopped, the mirror seems to be functional. We can’t say if the Dark Mirror could work or not during Malleus’ Overblot, just because Malleus’ barrier the prohibits exits- Ortho was only able to escape through radio signals, not even able to go through underwater cables. But at the end of Book 7 Chapter 6, Ortho was able to infiltrate the magic barrier somehow with STYX technology. So there is some way to bypass the barrier, which I assume we’ll find out in the next update.
So what if Crowley had the Dark Mirror locked for some purpose? He and Lilia must have some sort of understanding with each other if Lilia agreed to take a carriage instead of the mirror. Lilia would have to go to Crowley himself to drop out and explain his reasons why, after all. There are so many theories I could probably connect the locking of the Dark Mirror to haha (e.g Meleanor Dark Mirror theory), but if Crowley does have a connection to the Overblots somehow, perhaps he knew Malleus would Overblot at the farewell party. Crowley’s purpose here could go at least two ways, depending on his intentions. For one, he could be locking the mirror to prevent anyone from escaping the island. If Malleus’s barrier grew and grew, the mirror would be functionally useless. But on the other hand, perhaps Crowley locked the mirror to prevent Malleus’s magic from spreading across the world.
Tumblr media
Because thinking about it, Malleus cast his realm magic inside the Diasomnia Dorm, meaning that his magic escaped the dorm mirror and spread across not only NRC, but to other dorm mirrors as well. Hm…his magic can both escape and enter mirrors and affect those realms. So what if Crowley locked the Dark Mirror as a precaution to prevent Malleus’ sleeping magic from spreading across the world? (。・ω・。) In his Overblot state, Malleus could easily do this. But Malleus himself seems to be confined to the inside of his barrier. Perhaps Crowley was doing something noble here…
Edit: I had this in mind when writing this but completely forgot to put it in 🧍 Just as another minor possibility, Lilia could also just not be going to the Land of the Red Dragons, and somewhere else entirely. If the carriage is indeed taking him somewhere, influenced by Crowley’s magic, Lilia could just truly have fallen off the face of the earth if he deliberately lied to everyone where he was going 🧍 Anyway, not much of a point to add haha. But I think Crowley and Lilia are in on something, or at least understanding something about each other. Something had to have brought Lilia’s attention to leave in such a hurry, something important enough to Crowley accept and arrange a carriage for him🤔
So basically this could just be me over analyzing the text as usual, and Lilia was just referring to planes casually outside of NRC 🧍 And the carriage could just be Crowley being extra and giving Lilia a ride to the Mirror Chamber so Lilia doesn’t have to walk all the way 💀💀💀 Still, the specification of a carriage is just…odd. Or perhaps I’m just coping and in severe denial
Anyway, let me have my fun!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I should be a goofy Ace Attorney-esque lawyer in the Twisted Wonderland world. I’d get so many contempts of court because I am being too silly \(//∇//)\

As a bit of a psa I thought i'd share some things i've seen going around relating tot he current horrible disaster.
-Everyone is using the Titanic tag for this tragedy, but the tragedy has nothing to do with the titanic itself.
The company is called Oceangate, and the submarine is called the Titan.
I just figured i'd spread that around in case more people wanted to tag those things. Right now tumblr is thinking the titanic film is trending, without really indicating that this is because of a tragedy in the making and not something like a film reboot.
-I've seen a lot of posts celebrating the submarine's disappearance and the fate of those aboard. . This is a bad thing. These are real people who are suffering though some of the worst horrors imaginable, and I wouldn't wish that fate on my worst enemy. We should at least have some respect for them as people.
Like, there's a 19 year old on that submarine. Could you imagine their friends? Imagine learning there's a good chance you'll never see your friend again, and then seeing a bunch of posts celebrating the submarine's disappearance?
That is disgusting.
(Yes, billionaires are bad. There's certainly a discussion to be made about the ethics of Adventure Tourism, and the lives that are risked in that industry. However much like the titanic, not all the victims here are the Elite and Wealthy. )
-Theres a lot of jokes about the way the ship is built/constructed. and that is a interesting horror show in and of itself. Like the entire thing feels like something i'd read about in a horror parody about the dangers of greed.
That said, I wanted to note that controlling a ship via a video game controller isn't actually that unusual/strange. It's the fact that they used a third party controller known for having unreliable bluetooth and frequently breaking, that's the problem. It kinda implies the company was potentially cutting corners, or at least gives that sort of bad look.

Reminder once again that aside from being easy to market just for their supposed uniqueness, street races appeal to liberty and co for the same reason live service games appeal to video game developers - the initial cost is greatly decreased (no need to find the funding to build a huge new circuit or renovate an old one) and instead the cost comes gradually and is offset by fan spending. In this case yearly in the form of economic losses on race days from closed roads, hosting fees, etc offset by ticket sales and tourism spending. So its easier for liberty to get people to agree / want to host an f1 race because the initial cost is a lot less daunting to look at even if the overall cost is greater. So they get more races, more money, more Sexy Locations to market. Line goes up!

This is it folks! The round you've all been waiting for, the time we decide who is the ULTIMATE FICTIONAL CANADIAN.
It's been a tough battle. We have had over 70 contestants, spanning every province and territory expect the Northwest Territories. They've covered a variety of different mediums, from webcomics to video games to movies to poetry and more. Our oldest came from a poem published in 1847, while we also had one from a currently updating webcomic.
Of those figures, some towering figures of Canadiana, some more unknown (that I hope this blog helped get them a tiny little smidge of much deserved limelight) only two remain. Those are:
Anne Shirley is from Anne of Green Gables, a book by Lucy Maude Montgomery that has been turned into everything from a ballet to an animated children’s tv show. Anne has multiple museums, a theme park, two stamps from Canada Post and is a cornerstone of PEI’s tourism industry.
Anne is fanciful, imaginative, eager to please, and dramatic. She is also adamant her name should always be spelt with an "e" at the end
And
Toriko Nishina (blonde) is from Otherside Picnic a novel series/anime. From submitter: Silly lesbian who explores an alternate world full of internet creepypasta with her gf. knows a lot about guns. has two moms.
Who will win? Who will take home the poorly photoshopped crown?

How is it nonsense if i may ask
I think the real question is how is it true?
Scotland has a vast number of world-class industries. Our food and drink, specifically Scotch whisky, Oil & Gas - now moving into renewables as well, tourism, biotechnology, satellites, video games, technology.
“There’d be no money” - seriously I’m curious how? Is scotland uniquely incapable to run itself unlike every other country in the world?
