"Peacemaker, it's Vigilante. I just got the scoop on a big heroin shipment coming in tonight! Let's go down there…" -Adrian Chase, Peacemaker S01E01
Your night wasn’t supposed to go like, it really wasn’t. It had started off as a completely normal shift. You were going about your regular deliveries on your assigned postal route, a quiet little stretch that dipped in and out along the small town Washington state roads. The last stop before you could go home was a drop-off in a warehouse district office address on the outskirts of Evergreen.
Your job was routine, boring and you’d gotten complacent. You hadn’t been paying attention, simply dropping off the parcel and walking back to your truck with the music blaring in your headphones. With your head in the clouds, you completely failed to realize something terrible was happening before it was too late.
You heard the shouting next to your ear a mere second before your earbud was yanked out and you were grabbed from behind. You didn't even get a chance to scream before a hand was covering your mouth and two men were shoving you through a side door into one of the warehouses you thought was empty. After a very brief interrogation, in which you determine these are not very good men and this is definitely not an empty warehouse, they disagree on what to do next.
So now. you were sitting on the cold hard floor of the warehouse, hands zip-tied behind you, wondering what the fuck is going to happen. At least they haven’t hurt you…yet.
The sun was starting to set when you arrived here, you’re not sure how long you’ve been stuck here but you’re certain it’s fully dark outside now. You sighed, flexing your wrists to try and get the ache out of them, the damned zip ties are very uncomfortable. Your head snapped up when you heard yelling coming from outside. Bracing yourself for another unexpected development you were caught off guard when a masked man in black and teal barreled into the room and pointed a pistol at you.
"Oh god, please don't hurt me!" You immediately squeezed your eyes shut in fear, deeply worried about what might happen to you next.
You waited for the sound of the gun firing but nothing happened. You cracked an eye open and he was just standing there instead.  Instead of shooting you as you thought, although the gun was still pointed at you, he cocked his head to the side, studying you carefully.
"You  don't look like a drug dealer."
"I'm not. I work for the post office." You nodded at your uniform, clearly displaying your profession. “Can you tell me who the fuck you are?”
“I’m Vigilante. Who the fuck are you ?”
You shook your head in dismay. “Someone who really doesn’t want to be here.”
“You gonna tell me what the hell is a postal worker doing in a cartel hideout?”
“Wrong place, wrong time.” You grumbled, still deeply regretting your life choices as you explained what had happened to you earlier.
“Well lucky for you, I’m here.”
He crouched down beside you and pulled out a knife. You flinched, still on edge from the kidnapping, but he simply grabbed your hands and cut you free. You stood up trying to ignore the pins and needles pricking at your wrists as you took a better look at the masked stranger who rescued you. You had no idea who he was but he did look rather impressive. Tall, broad shoulders, slutty waist and a lot of weapons. He didn't look half bad, even if you couldn’t see his face and he was wearing teal.  Very lucky for you.
You followed him out the door and when you looked down the hall, your eyes widened in shock. “Did…did you kill them?’
“Hm?” Vig took a quick look in the direction your gaze was fixed and saw the mess. “Oh yeah, definitely. All dead, don’t worry about it.”
You were a bit shaken up by the bodies on the floor outside the room, leaking blood and brains all over the floor. You held your breath and tried not to look too long as you gingerly stepped over the corpses. Vigilante kept his hand on your arm, leading you down the hallway while looking for the exit. You were startled by a noise coming from behind you and you looked over your shoulder, quickly screaming as you saw the barrel of a handgun pointed at you. Vig spun around, pulling out his own weapon and firing a few shots toward the very pissed-off gang member. He yanked at your arm and shoved you through the first open door on the left.
You were absolutely livid. “You said you killed them all!”
“I thought I did! I got all four of them!”
He pushed you across the room, a shabby office full of shelves and some scattered furniture. You crouched down on the floor behind a rickety metal table with something wrapped in brown paper strewn on it. You hissed at him with barely suppressed anger.
“There were FIVE.”
He huffed in annoyance. “Obviously I know that now .”
You covered your ears and ducked down as gunshots rang out, echoing through the warehouse. Your ears were ringing as the two men exchanged fire, when a stray bullet flew over the table and the paper package exploded. A cloud of white powder spread out and dusted around the room. You coughed as it got into your nose and mouth. You noted that it smelled like lavender and tasted like pine trees, a very strange combination. You wiped it off your face with your sleeves and risked a glance over the edge of the table. The shots had stopped and the man in teal looked over at you.
“Stay here, I’ll be right back.”
You panicked a little at the thought of being left alone again after all the unexpected violence. “Where are you going?!”
He hesitated for a second before answering you. “I’m just gonna go and count again. I’ll be right back. I’m gonna keep you safe, okay?”
You nodded, not having much choice otherwise. “Okay.”
You pulled yourself up from behind the table and tried to steady your nerves. You started to feel tingling in your fingertips and wondered if you were having a panic attack. But instead of the usual tunnel vision, you just felt…warm. Really, really warm. Uncomfortably warm, like someone poured hot water directly into your veins. Sweat gathered on your forehead and your thoughts started to get jumbled, you were having a hard time focusing on anything.
“Are you okay?”
You spun around to see that Vigilante had finally come back. You took a long hard look at him, really taking your time studying the strange man in front of you. Had teal always looked this attractive? He was dangerous, certainly, but you found you didn’t mind that too much right now. Maybe he miscounted but he had still saved you, he was clearly a good guy, a hero. Your hero.
Vig was watching you with deep concern.
“Hey, come here.”
He reached out and you let him pull you forward with no protest. Your pupils were blown out so wide your eyes were practically black, your cheeks were bright red and you were glistening with sweat. Vig frowned under the cover of his mask, something wasn’t right. You weren’t like this a moment ago. He tugged off one of his gloves and pressed his bare hand to your forehead discovering your skin was blazing hot. The moment he touched you, you felt tingles spread through every cell of your body. You felt like you’d been electrocuted and suddenly you knew there was only one thing you could possibly do next. You don't bother to fight the impulses screaming at you to get close to him, leaning forward and pressing your lips against his. Your addled brain clearly didn’t think things through as you got a mouthful of nylon instead of soft skin, which was doing nothing to sate the overwhelming urgency racing through you.
He stumbled backwards as your fingers fumbled around the back of his neck, haphazardly trying to tug the fabric off. He grabbed your hands, yanking them away from his head and flinging you back.
“What the hell?! Don’t touch the fucking mask!”
“I’m sorry! I just-” You tried to calm down and remember how to breathe. “-want to kiss you so bad.” The only intelligible thought your mind was able to conjure was how badly you needed him to touch you, kiss you, anything .  Your body was on fire and the only thing that would help was him. Your entire being was vibrating, desperately craving a taste of the teal and black-clad stranger in front of you.
Vigilante moved away from you as fast as he could, putting some space between your bodies as he started to feel way too hot. He tried taking a few deep breaths to steady himself. Something weird was going on, you were staring at him like you wanted to eat him. He started to pant, suddenly feeling very lightheaded as he smelled a hint of flowery something and what tasted kind of like Christmas filtered through the fibres in his mask. An unexpected warmth flooded his system, rapidly coursing through every inch of his body.
“Shit, why is it so hot in here? What the fuck.”
Beads of sweat started dripping down the back of his neck and the dark fabric stretched over his face started feeling deeply uncomfortable as his temperature kept rising. In less than a minute he felt like he was sitting on the surface of the sun, his body overwhelmed by waves of heat. He needed to keep the mask on, needed to protect his identity from you, there was too much danger. He didn’t even know you but when he looked over at you, his brain short-circuited. Everything that wasn't you was thrown out of his mind, right now you were all he could think about. His body burned at the thought of getting his hands on you. He needed to touch you, sink his teeth into you, just fucking feel you any way he could.
He wasn’t sure how long he managed to stay on the other side of the room. It felt like hours but was actually less than a minute until he just couldn’t take it anymore. He slipped his hands under the edge at the back and yanked his mask off, dropping it carelessly to the floor. He felt a degree or two cooler and took a few deep breaths, feeling the air on his bare face. He turned to face you, his cheeks flushed pink and still breathing heavily.
You managed to get a decent look at his adorable dimples, messy dark curls and bright green eyes, darkened just like yours, before you couldn’t hold yourself back any longer. You practically pounced on him, your hands reaching out to grab the back of his neck, pulling him into a bruising kiss. The second you touched him, the tingles came back in full force. It felt like you’d be shocked and any remaining shred of coherent thought either of you had flew out the window. This is all you wanted, what you needed. Vigilante had completely stopped fighting, his hands flying out to grab your hips and pull you closer as he hungrily kissed you back. Thanking any and every higher power that he took the mask off, you sank your teeth into his bottom lip. He groaned and you took the opportunity to shove your tongue in his mouth as his hands began to slide along your lower body, skating over your hips and waist, grabbing at your clothes and touching anywhere he could reach.
You finally broke the kiss to catch your breath and started clawing at his shoulders, you needed the barriers between you gone immediately. You were trying your best to tug off the layers of armour that were so irritatingly in your way, the tactical equipment the only thing keeping you from your ultimate desire. He regrettably removed his hands from your ass to do it himself, quickly moving to a series of hidden straps and buckles to release the complex gear. You started stripping off your own clothes, fumbling with the buttons in your haste before shucking off the rest of your uniform in record time.
You barely had time to spin around before it was his turn to pounce. You gasped as he suddenly gripped the backs of your thighs and lifted you, pressing you against the nearest wall. Fuck, he was strong, holding you up like it was nothing. You whimpered, feeling yourself flood with wetness as his hands on your bare skin fed the desire racing through you.
“Need you. Now.” was the only thing you were able to mumble before you buried your face in his neck, not being able to resist scraping your teeth along the toned muscle.
Any other words you may have thought of were immediately shoved out of your mind as he reached down and positioned his cock at your entrance. He slowly slid inside you, letting you feel every inch dragging along your inner walls. Your head tipped back as he bottomed out and you were overwhelmed with how impossibly full you felt. His cock was absolutely incredible, the perfect fit to hit every sweet spot deep inside you. He wrapped one arm tightly around your waist and placed his free hand behind your head to stop you from smacking into the wall as he began to thrust. You dug your nails into his shoulders and moaned shamelessly as he set a brutal pace, not being able to hold back from pounding into you with his full strength. You barely resisted the urge to sink your teeth into the bicep flexed beside your head, instead leaning forward to capture his lips again. The light taste of juniper lingered mixed with the raw taste of him. Vigilante tasted faintly of mint with a hint of gunpowder and copper, the last flavour possibly being from your earlier bite.
You were completely lost in him, gazes locked on each other. Your breasts were pressed firmly against his chest, pebbled nipples brushing against his skin offering delicious friction as you bounced on his cock. You could feel your slick dripping down your thighs as you gushed around him, an endless stream of pleasure he was wringing from your body. You were practically drowning in the sea of his green eyes as he pushed you closer and closer to the edge. Your eyes fluttered closed involuntarily as the pressure built more and more, coiling in your lower abdomen.
It was almost embarrassing how quickly he was going to finish you off, he just felt so goddamn good . He swore and bit down on your shoulder when you finally screamed and clenched tightly around him. Your thighs were shaking uncontrollably as spots danced across your vision, blurring everything out as you rode out the high. You were almost boneless in his arms as he continued to fuck you through your release.
You expected him to climax soon after you but he surprised you when he stopped, pulled out and set you back down on the floor. You whined at the loss of his cock inside you, feeling desperately empty without the warmth filling you up. Your legs were a little wobbly, still off balance from the intense orgasm just moments before but he steadied you, ensuring you didn’t tumble to the ground. You didn’t have to wonder long about what was happening as he quickly maneuvered you over to the table and placed a hand on your lower back, pushing down until you were bent over and exposed.
“Stay like that for me, fuck, just like that.”
You weren’t sure how he was managing to string words together when you had been reduced to nothing but moans and whimpers for a while. You also weren't sure how much more of this exquisite torture you could take but your hazy mind and body were still screaming for his touch and you mindlessly spread your feet further apart, making room for him. You rested your elbows and chest on the table and held still as he pushed his still-hard cock back inside you.
He leaned over and pressed you harder against the table with his full weight, his incredibly toned chest keeping you still as his fingers dug into your hips. Oh, fuck . You gasped as the new position let him hit even deeper inside you. You could barely breathe as his hips snapped into you over and over, the sound filling the small room. All you could do was hold on and try to stay conscious as you were mercilessly railed by Vigilante.
Your second climax hit you like a freight train, letting out a scream as your back arched and your body convulsed underneath him. He had the presence of mind to pull out at the last second, thick ropes of cum splattering onto the grey concrete instead of deep inside you. You had a fleeting thought about what a waste that was before your legs finally gave out and you sank down to the floor.
You lay flat on the cold warehouse floor for a moment, simply trying to catch your breath and ride out the aftershocks still rocketing through you. When you finally floated back down to Earth, you pulled yourself up and set about getting dressed. You were still a bit sweaty and your thighs were sticky as you picked up your scattered clothing. You slowly tugged your uniform back on, casually noting some of the small bruises and marks Vig had pressed into your skin with his hands and teeth.
After you were dressed you stood around awkwardly for a moment, avoiding looking at the redressed Vigilante as he pulled his mask back on. You wondered what you should say or do next. What was the social protocol here? What should you say? You were grateful when he spoke up first.
“Sex Panther.”
That…was not what you were expecting.
“What?”
He turned towards you and held up the ruined paper package from the table. “It says ‘Sex Panther’. I think these guys were importing more than just heroin.”
You started to put two and two together with the drug cartel, the powder in the air and the Sex Panther label.
“So that stuff is what made all of…” You gestured awkwardly between the two of you, “This… happen?”
Vigilante nodded at you. "Looks like it. I think you got a way bigger dose, my mask filtered some of it."
You exhaled slowly, trying to process the information. Sex drugs explained a lot, you weren't normally the type to uncontrollably jump strangers' bones 5 minutes after meeting them (especially after watching them kill someone in front of you…). You shook your head to clear the last of your lingering mental haze and exhaustion started to set in. You were tired and your muscles were starting to ache from this whole ordeal, between the kidnapping and frenzied sex.
“So… what now?”
"How do you feel?"
You suppressed a tiny smile,  that was really nice of him to ask.
"Fine, a little worn out but fine." You looked around the ruined office and felt how damp and sticky you felt. "Um…can I go home now?"
He checked your eyes, they were back to normal. Your skin was still a little flushed but you were breathing normally and seemed okay.
“Yeah, sure. Come on.”
Vigilante cautiously led you out of the warehouse and walked you back to your truck, saying it was the least he could do after everything that happened. You climbed into the vehicle and fumbled around for your keys.
“You sure you're gonna be okay to drive?”
“Yeah, uh. I feel fine, mostly. Just a little sore.” You coughed awkwardly, blushing a little as you looked away from him. “I really should go. My boss is gonna be pissed.”
He nodded. “Hey, just before you leave… “
You held your breath, wondering what he might want to ask next.
“You know you can’t tell anyone about this, right?”
You schooled your face into a deadpan expression, hiding your brief moment of disappointment that it wasn’t him asking for your number. “What, I shouldn't mention I was kidnapped by a drug gang, held hostage, watched a masked stranger kill some guys then got accidentally drugged with said stranger and had some of the best sex of my life in a random warehouse?”
Your eyes widened and you looked everywhere but at him as you chewed your lip nervously. That wasn’t exactly what you planned on admitting, it just flew out, you were tired .  You watched the corners of his eyes crinkle up through the red visor as he smiled under the mask.
“Well hey, that last part is fine but definitely not the other stuff.” His eyes narrowed and his tone got a little more serious. “This warehouse isn’t the only one that gang is operating, if you tell anyone about this, you'll have a target on your back. And you saw my face. So if you tell anyone about me, I'll have to kill you and that would suck because you’re really pretty.”
You sucked in an uneasy breath at the explicit threat to your life mixed with the strangely sweet compliment. “O-okay, sure. I won't tell anyone. Promise.”
His shoulders relaxed and his tone picked up again. “Okay, awesome. Sorry about all the shooting and you know, the accidental drugging. But I’m definitely not sorry the sex was so great. See ya!”
He stepped back and gave a little wave as you pulled out of the lot, quickly heading back towards home. You shook your head in disbelief at the events of your evening. Even if you did try and tell someone, who the fuck would believe you? Kidnapping, masked strangers and sex drugs? It was too weird to be real… unless you’re in Evergreen, apparently. Oh well. You didn’t die and it could’ve been worse, at least he was cute.
Really, really cute.

Chapter text:
The dim fire exit sign outside the back of the abandoned video store flickers as you suck a peanut M&M between your tongue and the roof of your mouth anxiously. You hope your contact hurries the fuck up - if he makes you wait any longer you’ll finish an entire party bag from nervousness.
It was stupid, really, even reckless, to meet a stranger from the dark web. But when some guy called TechConomos_11 had responded to you in a chat room where you were discussing the intel you had on some sinister goings-on in Evergreen, you knew you had to meet him and his team.
Because you’ll be damned if anyone catches the escaped gorilla before you.
There’s a clink of a padlock and chain falling to the floor, the sound of a heavy emergency exit bar being pushed down and when the door opens you’re face to face with a large, bearded man wearing glasses.
“Are you the PI?”
If you had to draw a sketch of what you thought a guy you met on the dark web would look like, he would be it. Not a neckbeard, exactly, just someone with the distinct aura of having too much time spent in front of a screen.
You nod. “TechConomos?”
“Call me John. Come inside - the team’s all here.”
You shove the half-empty pack of M&Ms into your bag and he leads you through to the back office.
“This is Murn, Harcourt and Adebayo.” He gestures to his three associates sitting in the office who each acknowledge you in turn. “And these guys-”
“Fuck it! Fuck, fuck fuck!”
The yelling draws your attention to the window separating the office from the rest of the video store and it’s like a knife in your gut when you see him.
Vigilante.
“Ugh, fuck! It hurts to walk!” Vigilante whines as he limps around. He turns to pace some more but stops in his tracks in alarm when he sees you. He immediately dives to the floor, launching himself behind a desk in a futile attempt to hide.
Vigilante is the last person you expected to - or wanted to - see here. It’s not his usual MO - normally he’d be out hunting thugs and drug dealers. What was he doing caught up in this operation with some tech guy and a team who you suspected were either current or former soldiers?
There’s a roaring laugh and your eyes find Peacemaker, doubled over in his chair, laughing like an idiot at Vigilante sprawled on the ground.
That explains Vigilante’s involvement. Looks like his idol, Peacemaker, is finally out of prison and the first thing he does is rope Vigilante into whatever this is. The whole thing stinks. Why is there an entire team with two capes looking for an escaped zoo animal? Any why did one of those capes have to be Vigilante?
You close your eyes and groan. “You didn’t tell me you were working with them.”
“You know each other?” asks Harcourt.
“Just Vigilante.” You sigh and follow them into the video store.
“Hey, asshole,” you say, peering over the desk Vigilante is hidden behind. He looks up at you and props his masked head up on his arm casually as if you didn’t just see him throw himself there a second ago.
“Oh, hey!” he says, feigning pleasant surprise.
“Why are you on the floor?”
“I hurt my pinky toe.”
“Yeah? Which one?” You walk around the desk and stand at his feet to get a better look.
“Nononono! Wait!”
You clock the way his visor-covered eyes dart down to his right foot in panic.
“Woah, did you think I was gonna kick you or something?” Sure, you have beef but you’re kind of offended he’d think that you’d harm him on purpose.
“No…” he mumbles sheepishly.
“Asshole.” You roll your eyes and sit on the hard wooden surface, turning away from him to face the team.
“Who the fuck is this?” Peacemaker asks Murn before looking between you and Vigilante. “Do you two know each other or something?”
You don’t deign to reply.
There’s a squeak of a chair being dragged on linoleum as Vigilante pulls himself up onto a seat next to Peacemaker with a wince.
“Economos says you want to join the team,” says Murn.
“That’s right.”
“Why?”
“I know everything that goes on in Evergreen.”
“And?
“I have information and skills that I want money for. Obviously.”
“How much?”
You were talking about splitting the reward for the gorilla but Murn’s expectant look makes it clear this is a contract. What’s that saying again? A contract in the hand is worth a gorilla in the bush? … Something like that.
“Well, what are you paying him?” You cast your eyes at Vigilante who shrugs. Unbelievable. “They’re not paying you? Idiot.”
Murn and Harcourt glance at each other awkwardly. “This is strictly off the books,” says Murn.
“So you were just going to take advantage of him? No way. I want my pay backdated for all the intell I’ve found for you. And his too for whatever it is he’s doing for you.”
“How do you guys know each other?” asks John, pulling up a chair behind his laptop.
You look at Vigilante warningly and answer before he can open his fat mouth. “I’ve sent some work his way once or twice. And compensated him fairly for it,” you add pointedly.
“Oh, they’ve definitely fucked,” laughs Peacemaker.
“Shouldn’t you be in Belle Reve?” You glare at him.
Peacemaker ignores the question. “Did he keep the mask on with you too?” He pouts faux-sympathetically.
This catches you off-guard. Not Vigilante and Peacemaker fucking - Vigilante is so obsessed with him that you guessed it was only a matter of time.
But he did keep his mask on.
Vigilante groans and leans forward in his chair, resting his elbows on his knees and staring determinedly at his injured foot.
“Ha! I knew it!”
“Enough!” Murn gives Peacemaker a severe look before turning his attention back to you. “John says you know the location of what we’re looking for.”
“I’m not telling you until you get me up to speed with what you’ve got so far. John wouldn’t tell me shit online. Call it a show of good faith.”
“And we’re supposed to just take your word that you actually have useful information?” asks Adebayo.
John opens his mouth to reply but Vigilante beats him to the punch.
“She knows,” says Vigilante, finally looking up. “She’s… she’s a good PI. If she says she knows, she knows.”
“Well, we can’t divulge state secrets just because Vigilante vouches for you. Tell us the ‘where’ and if it checks out - you’re in,” says Harcourt.
You look around at this unlikely group. If you want to catch the gorilla you need their help. You need their weapons. You need their money.
“It’s at the Glan Tai bottling plant. You heard of it?”
“Pulling it up now…” John types on his keyboard. “It makes sense, Murn. They’ve got the production, the distribution channels… This is probably it.”
Distribution channels? What’s the gorilla at Glan Tai got to do with distribution?
You keep your face neutral - if there’s one thing you’ve learned from this job, it’s when to sit back, shut up and listen.
You try to piece things together as Murn talks about ‘butterflies’ and their ‘food source’. Economos checks highway CCTV footage and confirms that your intel is correct. This is extremely lucky for you because you’re clearly talking about two entirely different things. You wonder if these ‘butterflies’ are some kind of parasite-induced sleeper agent. And maybe the food source is a drug to release them from their fugue state?
“...And the gorilla?” you ask eventually.
“What about the gorilla?” asks Harcourt.
“The gorilla is at Glan Tai.”
“There’s a Butterfly gorilla?” asks Vigilante excitedly. “That is so cool!”
“Is that even possible?” Harcourt asks Murn who nods.
You’ve seen some shit but a gorilla sleeper agent takes the fucking cake. They all seem totally unfazed so you pretend to be too.
“So, what’s our next move? When do we start killing these aliens?” asks Peacemaker.
Aliens.
You discreetly scan the others. Nobody else bats an eyelid at Peacemaker’s use of that word.
What the hell have you gotten yourself into?
“You two get some rest, come back tonight,” says Murn to Peacemaker and Vigilante. “And you - you’ve got evidence of what we’re doing here?” There’s no point in lying so you nod. “Bring it back here so we can destroy it. All of it.”
You, Peacemaker and Vigilante, leave the video store. You cross the street to get to your car but Vigilante calls your name. You turn around to see him hurriedly limping over while Peacemaker climbs into the Vigilantemobile.
“Hey, I’m glad you’re part of the team now.”
“I can’t return the sentiment.” You scowl at him. Peacemaker beeps the horn of Vigilante’s car. “You’d better hurry up - you don’t want to keep your boyfriend waiting.”
“We’re not in a relationship. You know I only wanted to be with-”
“Don’t you dare.”
“C’mon, can’t you at least tell me why you stopped answering my calls?”
“I already told you - I’m not going to wait around my entire life for a guy who won’t even show me his face. Or tell me his real name.”
“I can’t -”
“Save your excuses for someone who gives a shit.” Peacemaker blasts the horn again. “At least I know you keep the mask on when you fuck him too. It’s not like he’s seen your face.”
Vigilante’s visor-covered eyes avoid contact with yours. His hesitation is like a punch in the gut.
“He’s seen your face?” You don’t mean to whisper it. The words just spill from your lips like you’ve been winded.
“Not like that. That was just a meaningless threesome-”
“But he’s seen it?”
He nods.
You push him aside to throw your car door open and get in. “Fuck you, V.” You slam it shut and drive away, not even bothering to glance at him standing haplessly in your rearview mirror.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later that evening, you and John cross-check your intel. It’s becoming clear that this is way out of your fucking league. But if Vigilante can do it, you can too.
Right?
“You want some peanut M&Ms?”.
He accepts a handful gladly. “Why is so much of this about the fucking gorilla?” John asks with his mouth full, looking over your shoulder at your laptop screen.
The necessity of any quick thinking on your part is interrupted when you hear Murn’s voice ringing from the back office.
“You told Vigilante to kill Peacemaker's father?!”
You and John drop what you’re doing and peer tentatively around the door of the office where Murn is berating Adebayo.
“I didn't tell him to… I just kinda put the idea in his head,” she explains.
“That Peacemaker would be better off without his father?”
Oh no.
“Where’s Vigilante?” you ask suspiciously, joining Murn as he stands with his arms crossed. He looks furious.
“He’s in jail,” mumbles Adebayo. “I might have suggested that if someone were to go in and kill Peacemaker’s dad, all our problems would go away.”
You run your hands through your hair.
“How could you manipulate him like that?” Your combat boots squeak on the floor as you pace across it, catastrophising aloud. “In case you hadn’t noticed, Vigilante is very fucking easy to manipulate. And he has a record. What if he kills someone in prison and gets locked up for life? Or what if he gets himself killed trying?”
“Peacemaker’s gonna see right through this. He’ll know exactly what you tried to do,” says Murn to Adebyo sternly.
They’re fucking crazy.
“Who gives a shit about Peacemaker? Vigilante is locked in jail with the White Dragon!” You plead urgently. Vigilante is in real danger and all they care about is Peacemaker’s feelings.
“Economos, can you get Vigilante out of the system before he screws us worse than we're already screwed?”
John sighs. “I don’t even know this guy’s name.”
The four of them look at you.
You cross your arms. “I can’t tell you his name.”
“Guess he’s gonna die in prison then -”
“Last name Chase. First name Adrian.” You blurt out his secret that you’ve been holding deep in your chest. “But you can’t tell him I told you. He doesn’t know I know.”
You crowd around John’s laptop as he pulls up Adrian’s file.
“We shouldn’t be looking at this,” you say as you stare intently at his mugshot - the mugshot you’re so well acquainted with. You’d rather die than admit how many hours you’ve spent sitting at your desk late at night, looking at his police record on your laptop.
And suddenly, it’s like you’re back in bed with him, as he stares breathlessly at the ceiling and you lie there naked on top of his bare chest, looking into his masked face, picturing that very same mugshot underneath it.
“Guess again,” Vigilante says. You can tell even under the mask that he’s grinning, enjoying your questioning.
“Hmm… are you a doctor? You’ve stitched yourself up a lot.”
“You think I’m a doctor and live here?”
Vigilante watches as you make a show of pursing your lips thoughtfully. The warm afternoon sun streaks through the gaps in his blinds onto his bed. It makes it look like there’s a golden halo around your messy bed hair. He tucks a small strand behind your ear as you walk your index and middle fingers along his chest and down his shoulder.
“Maybe a fireman with these big strong arms?”
He likes you when you let your walls down like this. You’re almost downright playful when he’s satisfied you - a personality trait he still hasn’t extricated from you outside these four walls.
“Man, I am so good at this secret identity thing if I can keep it a secret from a PI.”
You laugh. “I guess so.”
He didn’t know that you had long known his real job. And his real name. Or that you’d trace your fingers over his face on your laptop screen as you tried to reconcile it with the masked killer who was content to let you into his bed but never his real life.
“Wasn’t he our busboy at Fennel Fields?” Adebayo’s question snaps you back to the present.
“Can you pull him out?” You ask John.
“It’s… done.” He says, with a final click of his keyboard. “Let’s just hope he hasn’t done anything stupid. Yet.”
Harcourt shrugs her leather jacket on. “I’ll pick him up.”
Great - first he reveals to Peacemaker who he is and now Harcourt who he’s known for a hot minute is about to see his face too.
You frown. “He’s gonna be really upset we know his identity.”
“You wanna come and soften the blow?”
“I’ll drive.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Harcourt sits in the passenger seat of your car outside of the Evergreen Police Department. You’ve been sitting here quietly in the dark, staring at the front doors for almost an hour.
“So what’s your deal with Vigilante?” She asks, finally breaking the silence.
“I told you - I threw some contract work his way. Used him as a bodyguard from time to time when I needed the extra muscle.”
“And then what? Why did you call him an asshole?”
“Because he can be an asshole.”
“That doesn’t sound right. A psychopath maybe. But an asshole? I don’t buy it.”
You keep your eyes focused on the police station door to hide your face. “He doesn’t mean to be an asshole.” You swallow with difficulty. “He just has a code. Lots of quirky little rules he has to follow that makes it difficult for someone ordinary like me to be - I mean, to work with him.”
“Like not revealing his secret identity.”
It’s not a question but you nod all the same.
“So this is your first time seeing him without his mask?”
“That he knows of.” Your forehead touches the cool glass window. It’s like if you stare hard enough at the door he’ll appear in one piece. “I had to do my background checks.”
The doors open and you see Adrian Chase in his cardigan and jeans walking out into the dark night, illuminated by the fluorescent streetlights.
He’s alive.
You roll down your window and he stops dead. He stares at you in shock with his lips parted slightly - unsure whether you recognise him or not.
Harcourt stretches across your seat and calls to Adrian. “We’re here to take you home. Get in.”
When he climbs into the back seat of your car you both turn in your seats. You breathe a sigh of relief seeing him up close - physically he’s unscathed.
“He’s still alive…” He says. “I’m Adrian.”
“Okay,” Harcourt says simply.
“I’m glad you’re not hurt,” you tell him.
He looks up at both of you sadly over his wire-rimmed glasses. “I think I might have made things worse.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After you drop Harcourt off at her motel, Adrian gets into the passenger seat. You let him give directions to his apartment, even though you already know where he lives.
“This is me,” he says when you pull up to his building and park in the spot you’ve parked in on countless occasions.
“I know.”
“Right. Yeah, you’ve been here.”
“A couple of times, yeah…”
His stupid code. You could know where he lives but never see his face. And now you can’t stop yourself from drinking him in - his slightly stubbly chin from his day spent in prison, the way his curly hair is all messed up. He groans heavily and leans his head back against the headrest. “I’m sorry,” he says quietly.
“The guys know how you ended up in jail - they don’t blame you.” He doesn’t say anything. You search his face as he stares gloomily ahead. “What happened in there, V?” you ask.
“I tried to provoke Peacemaker’s dad into a fight. It worked at first - the Aryans took the bait but his dad saw right through it. I think I’ve fucked up the whole mission.”
So Vigilante went into a viper pit unarmed and provoked a bunch of nazis into fighting him.
Deep down, you know it’s fucked up to be attracted to someone capable of such violence but if you’re honest with yourself, it’s what drew you to him in the first place. You knew about the headlines before you met him. And the idea of him taking on a dangerous prison gang really shouldn’t make your heart pound the way it is right now.
You take a deep, steadying breath. “You don’t have to be sorry about that.”
You’ve never touched his hair before but you want to stroke it and comfort him. Tell him that it wasn’t his fault and it’ll all be okay. But he interrupts your train of thought before you can reach your hand out.
“I meant I’m sorry about us.”
Why is your first instinct to tell him that it’s no big deal that he broke your heart? Stupidly, you want to protect him from it - from the hurt he caused you. Comfort him, put his feelings before your own just because you can tell that right now he needs it.
But it is a big deal.
As soon as you remind yourself he couldn’t trust you enough to let you in, it feels like your heart is shattering all over again, mourning what you could have had.
Trust.
“I told the team your name so they could bail you out,” you admit, desperate to get the fact that you betrayed him off your chest. “I was worried about you locked up in there.”
He turns his head to look at you properly for the first time all night. The streetlights are reflected in his dorky little glasses.
“You knew my name?” He doesn’t look betrayed - he just looks surprised. “How…?”
You lift your finger from the steering wheel to point at his apartment. “Anyone with your address could find out who you are. And your full name appears on my checking account when you cash the checks I write you.”
“So you know… everything?”
“Yup.”
His eyebrows knit together in a plea. “Why didn’t you tell me before?”
“I wanted you to tell me. I wanted you to want me to know.”
“Knowing my secret identity would put you at risk.”
“That bullshit and you know it, V. I don’t need you to protect me.”
“Yeah you do - that’s why you had me come with you on jobs.”
“I can handle myself.”
“Then why did you hire me?”
“I was curious about the man behind the headlines, I guess. Then I nearly went broke trying to spend time with you. Do you honestly think I wanted to give you a cut of my contracts for months? ”
He presses his palms into his eyes, pushing his glasses up out of the way and trying to make sense of it all.
“So those jobs were just you finding a reason to hang out?” He drags his hands down his face.
“Well, not at first. But then we started sleeping together after jobs and I wanted to keep doing that.”
“I would’ve wanted to be with you even without those jobs.”
“Oh yeah? You’d have taken me out on a date as Vigilante?” He opens his mouth to speak but closes it again - as if reconsidering whatever he was about to say. “After all that time you still didn’t trust me enough to take off your mask. The last time we saw each other I practically begged you to show me who you are. Then Peacemaker comes back in town and you - what? Just rip off your mask and spill the beans without a second thought?”
“I was being tortured by Goff-”
“The senator tortured you?”
“Well, the Butterfly who had taken over his body. But yeah. He - I mean she - ripped off my mask and tried to cut off my pinky toe. Peacemaker was just there.”
You feel sick thinking about him being tortured. Then you feel sick about feeling sick. It’s not just normal empathy. You want revenge. But you know you shouldn’t care this much. Not when you’ve been broken up for so long.
“Shit, V. That’s horrible.”
“Besides, if I was gonna show someone my face it would have been you. Not Peacemaker.” He looks at you sadly. “I wish you hadn’t left.”
“And I wish you had given me a reason to stay, V. I deserved someone who could trust me. And you… you deserved someone you could be yourself with. We couldn’t be that for each other.”
The hurt on your face is plain for him to see - there’s no point trying to hide it.
“I do trust you. It’s just…” He hesitates. “You’re the only person I know who thought I was cool.”
“Adrian… that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”
Adrian.
It’s the first time you’ve ever called him that and it makes Adrian’s heart leap. Like the two sides of him have finally met you. After all this time.
“It’s not. Everyone else who knows me as Adrian knows I’m a loser. And I thought if I told you I was a busboy with no friends, you’d think that too.”
“You have friends.”
“Yeah, right.”
“The guys in the video store? They were so worried about you in jail. They like you a lot.” He allows himself a small smile like he doesn’t really believe it. “And I…” You pause. How do you feel about Adrian? “I still think you’re cool.”
“You do?”
He looks at you like he can’t believe you’re actually saying the words he was afraid you’d never say.
“Of course I do. You’re still the masked Vigilante of Evergreen. And I’m just… ordinary.”
He scoffs in amazement. “You’re not ordinary - you’re like the smartest person I know. And you don’t need to hide behind a mask to do your job.
“I’m not that smart.”
“I mean, you found out more about the butterflies than the US government.”
You bite your lip, trying not to smile. “Can I tell you something? And you won’t tell the rest of the team?”
“You can tell me anything.”
“I didn’t know what butterflies were until today.” He looks extremely confused so you press on. “I met John in a dark web chatroom when I was researching the missing gorilla. And I thought you guys were looking for it too.”
He laughs. A merciless side-splitting laugh that doesn’t take your embarrassment into consideration at all. But it shows off his beautiful smile. And when you see it you can’t stop yourself from joining in too. It’s so ridiculous. You wanted to find the gorilla, and maybe get your PI business mentioned again in the local paper. Now you’ve been roped into saving the world with a black ops team and Vigilante.
You both try to regain your composure and stare at each other, catching your breath. He shakes his head, grinning.
Christ, look at him.
“I sometimes wondered if you wouldn’t remove your mask because you were just a bad kisser. I mean, I saw your mugshot so I already knew you were pretty.” You can’t help but tell him. You know the grainy photo on his record like the back of your hand but in person, he’s frankly gorgeous.
“Thanks, I know.”
You laugh again. “And modest.”
“You think I fund being Vigilante on a busboy salary? I get a lot of tips.”
“It all makes sense now. The only thing that doesn’t make sense is why you don’t have a girlfriend.”
“Because she didn’t want to wait around for an idiot who wouldn’t even kiss her.”
You stare at each other in the shadowy silence for a few moments.
“It’s late, we should both get some rest.”
“Wait, don’t go.” His hand touches your thigh and it feels like there’s an electric current buzzing between his hand and the fabric of your jeans. The atmosphere almost crackles, like lighting about to strike in the middle of a storm. It’s the first time he’s touched you since you walked out on him six months ago and never went back. “It’s super late, you should crash at mine.”
“If I come upstairs we both know what’s going to happen.”
He tilts his head and you watch dimples form as the corners of his mouth turn into a mischievous smile. “That’s kind of the idea.”
“A bad one. We need to work together.”
“When has fucking ever stopped us from completing a job?”
“It hasn’t. But when we stopped seeing each other… I was really cut up. I couldn’t concentrate on work for a while. It’s why I needed the reward for the gorilla so badly.”
“Then we just won’t stop this time.”
“Adrian… I’ve only just pulled myself together again. I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do.”
He removes his hand from your leg to unclip his seatbelt.
“You’re right. I’m sorry.” Adrian gives you an apologetic look.
You stare at his lips. They’re just there. His whole face is out in the open. And now his lips, and the rest of him, are about to leave your car and you never know when you’ll see him unmasked again. He opens the car door.
“Wait -”
He turns back around in his seat.
“Let me find out if you’re a bad kisser. At least I can tell myself I’m not missing out on anything if you are.”
“You’re gonna be so mad…” He cups your face and brushes your cheekbone with his thumb. “I’m a really good kisser.”
You smile and his lips meet yours.
It’s nothing like you imagined.
When you had sex it always felt urgent, even dangerous, getting into bed with a masked cape who was wanted for murder. More often than not he fucked you from behind, tugged fistfuls of your hair and slapped your ass.
But his kisses… his kisses are soft and slow. And good.
You’re totally screwed.
He sucks your lip gently and then his tongue traces across yours. You urge yourself forward in the driver’s seat closer to him, bringing your hand up to cradle the nape of his neck and lace your hand in his soft hair.
Warmth spreads in your chest when he deepens the kiss. You secretly hoped he’d be like this when he was unmasked. Your hot and rough encounters were always fun but in your heart you always wanted him to want you like this. Deeply. Reverently.
You break apart and press your forehead against his with your eyes closed, feeling your heart hammering against your chest.
“What’s the verdict?” he asks.
You open your eyes to see his green ones searching yours from behind his glasses. He lets out a long, happy exhale when he hears your seatbelt unclick.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adrian’s bedroom is neat, clean, with framed vintage comic books on his walls and illuminated by a lava lamp on his bedside table. Details you remember from previous visits but barely register this time as you both burst through his bedroom door while he kisses you. Refusing to take his hands from your body, he kicks the door shut behind him forgetting about his injured foot. He regrets it immediately.
“Fuck!” He pulls away and winces.
“Careful,” you soothe, shrugging your jacket off onto the floor and he lifts your shirt off. As soon as your skin is uncovered his mouth finds it. He drags his tongue across your collarbones and between your breasts, nudging the cup of your bra aside so he can find your nipple.
His warm mouth feels almost too good to be true as he sucks on the hard, pebbled skin and moves on to taste every inch of your exposed chest, his deft hands unhooking your bra and tossing it aside quickly.
The entire day could have been a crazy fever dream. You’ve gone from your heart sinking at the very sight of him to it fluttering like crazy as you lie back on his mattress so he can pull your jeans and underwear off.
“Fuck, you’re so beautiful,” he says, sinking to his knees between your legs at the edge of the bed.
Even though you’re completely naked on his bed while he’s still dressed, you somehow feel less on display than he is right now without his mask. It feels taboo watching his jaw muscles tighten as he works his mouth all over your inner thighs. There’s something so controlled about the way he meticulously kisses the sensitive skin at the crux of your thigh that makes your lip quiver.
You’ve spent enough time around his quick reflexes to know Vigilante is going to be skilled at eating you out but sometimes, especially in the depths of your despair during your breakup, there was a niggling inkling at the back of your mind that the mask might just be a convenient excuse not to.
You had suspected, or maybe even hoped, when you hooked up that he had come really, really close to rolling up the bottom half of his mask and tasting you. More than once, you had caught a fleeting glimpse of him at odds with himself, his eyes behind his visor staring at your pussy and his neck muscles contracting as he swallowed thickly, strengthening his resolve and deciding to protect his own identity instead.
But tonight - finally - his tongue slides between your folds and you let out a low whine when the furnace-hot heat of his mouth besets itself over your clit.
Adrian groans when he tastes your arousal flooding his mouth. His hands cup under your ass as he pulls himself closer. You dare yourself to run your hand through his hair again, your fingernails lightly scratching his scalp. It still feels like it shouldn’t be allowed but he doesn’t seem to mind at all as his lips suck on your swollen clit.
“Fuck, Adrian…” His real name still sounds foreign on your lips, like you have to make a conscious effort to say it.
Adrian looks up at you over his glasses, his pupils wide in the dim violet light of the lava-lamp-lit room. He takes in your glowing face and chest as you lie propped up on your elbows, enjoying the sight of him on the floor between your legs.
His fingers knead the soft, pillowy flesh of your ass like he doesn’t want to let you go anywhere ever again. And you don’t want to. Fuck the mission. Can’t you just stay here forever? In Adrian’s bedroom, panting while his tongue runs firm circles over your clit.
When you roll your hips in encouragement, he lets out a soft little moan sending vibrations over the bundle of nerves - it almost makes you dissolve right there and then.
“I can’t believe I let you… fuck - let you get away with not doing this before,” you whimper. “So - s’fucking good, V.”
“Adrian,” he says and the tiniest absence of friction when his tongue leaves your clit makes your fingers tighten in his hair, urging him to return to your aching pussy.
“Adrianadrianadrian,” you babble, scared that his lips will leave you again. No more V. No more Vigilante. Just Adrian. Here. Eating your pussy like it’s you who’d been depriving him of this for months on end. Pleasure rises deep in your core like the tide getting ready to crash against the cliff face.
Your brain becomes fuzzy as increasingly desperate noises escape your throat - something strangled between a whine and his name. You squirm against his tongue as he relentlessly continues, determined to draw from you the orgasm that you’ve been desperate for since he kissed you in the car and you realised his mouth would feel like heaven.
The pressure of his tongue against your soaking wet pussy makes you writhe in exhilaration. You barely notice his fingers digging harder into your skin as you arch your spine and throw your head back.
Your thigh muscles tense and relax, trembling on either side of his face. “Adrian, I’m gonna - gonna cum…”
Instead of responding, he sinks two fingers deep inside your cunt, giving you something to squeeze around as every muscle in your pelvis tightens. He curls his fingers slightly and it’s just enough to push you over the fucking edge.
The purplish glow of the room turns blinding white as waves, hot and wet, break over you and your body floods with ecstasy. Your whole lower body stiffens as your walls clench around his fingers and you grind your pussy against his mouth.
Fuck, you’ve been missing out. You haven’t been with anyone else the entire time you’ve been apart and it’s like your body has been crying for exactly this moment without you realising how much you needed it. Needed his mouth on you.
The room comes into focus again gradually as Adrian gives you a last few slow, gentle kisses before sliding his fingers out of your still-twitching centre.
You breathe heavily and look at him kneeling on the floor.
He looks stupidly pleased with himself, the corner of his wet, glistening mouth upturned in a self-congratulatory smile at the way he’s taken you apart piece by piece. You can’t help but giggle from endorphins buzzing through your body. It makes your abdomen hurt from all the tensing you were doing.
Adrian slaps the side of your ass and gets to his feet, undoing his belt buckle. “C’mon, bend over,” he grins.
You sit up, shake your head and smile. “Nuh-uh, I wanna see your pretty face when you cum.” He blinks a couple of times dazedly. “Did you forget about your mask for a second?”
Adrian clears his throat. “Uh...No?”
He so did.
“C’mere.” You hook your fingers through his belt loops and pull him closer. You kiss the light trail of hair covering his hard abdomen while your fingers work to undo his jeans and pull them down to release him from the confines of his boxers.
God, you missed it. He has a pretty face alright but his cock is fucking perfect.
Your cheeks grow hot feeling him so close. You grip his hard length and draw your tongue across the tip, tasting the salty bead of precum.
“Take your top off,” you say, looking up at him before running your tongue along his shaft, keeping eye contact.
He grips the hem of his t-shirt and pulls it off over his head. Seeing him in the purple glow, every contour of his sculpted abdomen illuminated sends burning heat to your pelvis. You never thought you were into muscular guys, not until you saw Vigilante take his suit off for the first time. Now you’re not sure if you could go back to anything else. Anyone else.
You swirl your tongue around the head of his cock but he interrupts you.
“I need to fuck you. Please.”
At this point, you’re so turned on it’s an offer you can’t refuse. You release him and scoot back on the bed. He goes to crawl on top of you but flinches when his injured foot meets the mattress.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, I just need to - ah fuck.”
“It’s okay. Here, lie down. Let me go on top.”
He does so with relief and you swing your leg over his thighs.
“Better?”
“Fuck yeah,” he says, looking at your naked figure sitting on top of him.
You reach into his bedside drawer where you know he keeps his condoms. Your fingers skirt over what you suspect are bags of candy until you find the corrugated square shape you’re looking for. You take it out and roll the condom on him.
“Okay, easy,” you say, positioning the head of his cock at your entrance. He throbs under the grip of your hand in anticipation. “Don’t overexert yourself.”
“You were totally cool with me over-exerting myself on the floor a second ago.”
“I was talking to myself,” you smirk. “It’s been a while.”
You ease yourself down onto his cock, feeling the beautiful stretch as you adjust to his size.
“Shit…” he breathes, clamping his hands down hard on your hips, forcing you to bottom out. His eyebrows knit together and he sighs through parted lips, feeling the way your walls stretch around him. He looks so beautiful - you can’t stop looking at his lips.
You lean forward, planting your hands on either side of his head so you can lean down and kiss him. The taste of your juices registers on your tongue as his enters your mouth. You deepen the kiss and Adrian responds by jerking his hips up needily, pressing into your g-spot.
You moan and suck on his bottom lip, gently rolling it between your teeth as he pushes into the most sensitive part of your centre. Searing heat burns low in your belly, spreading to your thighs. You push yourself back up to ride him and grab his wrists, dragging them from your waist to grope at your chest.
“Fuck, you look so hot riding my dick.”
“Yeah? Rose-tinted visor isn’t all it’s cracked up to be?”
You’re teasing him but it seems to spur him on, as he squeezes your tits and jerks up into your bouncing hips. Every wet slap that meets your ears only increases your neediness for him. It burns brightly in your core, making you wetter and even more desperate for your next orgasm.
Every roll of your body sends his cock plunging into you, pushing against you at the perfect angle. God, he feels incredible. Your walls start to convulse around him, clamping down and gripping his cock as your second climax rears its head.
“Adrian, fuck, I’m close…” you plead, frantically chasing your high, wildly gyrating and bouncing in time with his thrusts.
“Say it again.”
“Fuck, I’m gonna-”
“No, say my name,” he says, through gritted teeth, his neck muscles tightening in the soft light.
His neck.
“Fuck, Adrian.” You lunge forward and bite on his neck. He grabs handfuls of your ass, anchoring himself into you as he thrusts savagely upwards sending pleasure rocketing through you. Fuck he’s deep. So fucking deep.
His name leaves your lips over and over, broken and ragged as every jerk of his hip knocks the air out of your lungs. Bliss ignites and your cry of pleasure is muffled as you moan and run your tongue over his neck, smelling his aftershave mixed with his musky sweat. An explosion, more fierce than any grenade blast bursts through your centre as he pummels his cock with unparalleled force and precision, even as you squirm and shake, unable to keep moving your own hips in time with his.
With every ounce of strength you have you lean up on your arms to look at his face. His eyes are squeezed shut and his facial muscles contort as he sucks through his teeth.
“Cum for me, Adrian,” you murmur sweetly in his ear and he opens his eyes, giving you a terminally helpless look as he slams his hips into your hot, wet cunt and you squeeze around him as tight as you can. With a final thrust, you feel his thighs tighten and his cock pulsing inside you as he cums.
You flatten your body back on top of his - the warm, damp sweat between your chests feels strangely pleasant. His fingers trace circles up your spine, gently tickling your back. Adrian turns his head to kiss you and you both lie for a moment, enjoying the feeling of his lips on yours.
After what feels like a long time of lying in quiet elation, you make yourself climb carefully off of him and roll over, resting back on his pillows.
“Don’t go anywhere,” he says and you lie back watching him dispose of the condom, taking care not to put any pressure on his bandaged toe. He launches himself back on the bed with a thud making you bounce on the mattress. “Good, you’re still here,” he says, leaning on his elbow and looking down at you.
“Where else would I be?” you laugh.
“Well… you usually leave right after. Except that one time I accidentally bought peanut M&Ms.”
You look at him apologetically. In fairness, the mask was hardly an invitation to spend the night - what was he going to do? Sleep in it? “Do you have peanut M&Ms?”
He nods to his bedside drawer and you open it to see that it’s stuffed with the little yellow bags.
“You like peanut M&Ms now?”
He pulls a face. “No way dude, they’re so gross.”
“Then why…?”
“I guess I always hoped you might change your mind and come back. So I bought them whenever I thought about you.”
You look at the drawer - there’s practically enough that Adrian could have made a trail of peanut M&Ms from your apartment across town to his. “You would have made a really sweet boyfriend,” you sigh.
“Well, I mean… I still could,” he says in a would-be nonchalant type of way, pushing up his glasses with his finger and avoiding your gaze.
“Yeah?” You weren’t sure if he’d be open to picking up where you left off. But it feels right when it didn’t before. Now you know him. Really know him.
He pulls his eyes up and meets your gaze with a smile. “If you want me to?”
“I’d like that. A lot.”
“Sweet,” he says with a wide smile, not bothering to hide how giddy he is.
You open the packet. “For the record, I’m not just staying because of the M&Ms this time.”
“I know.”
“And I’m glad you’re on the team.”
He nods happily, watching you pop a few into your mouth. “Hashtag me too.”

F*ck You?
Adrian Chase/Vigilante x Reader
and the rest of the 11th Street Kids
Tumblr media
Adrian Chase Masterlist
Prompt: Adrian has his own secret way of asking you to sleep with him.
Warnings: Mentions of sex, but no actual sex. The team bullying Adrian as per cannon ☹️. Peacemaker typical language.
A/N: Just a silly little thought I had at 5am during a text convo with one of my best friends when I couldn’t sleep. Shout out Tyler for letting me bounce this idea off you. Thanks bestie! Just a short little fic. The italics are flashbacks. Crossposting on my AO3 adriansglasses.
Adrian stuck his middle finger up, pointed at you. You were going through some files on the other side of the room unable to see him behind the papers you were focusing on. Those who saw were giving him questioning looks.
“Dude why are you flipping off, (Y/N)? I didn’t realize you were mad at them” Economos decided to be the first to question him. Usually he didn’t care enough to ask, but even he was curious as to why Adrian was enthusiastically flipping you off.
“Oh! That’s because I’m not. I just wanna have sex when we get back to my apartment. I was saying can I fuck you.” Adrian says, as if it’s obvious. Chris begins to laugh, having overheard the conversation.
“Oh my god. I’m not sure if you’re insane or an idiot.” Harcourt rolls her eyes, walking away.
“I’m pretty sure he’s both. You know that’s not what that means right?” Economos questions.
“It has two meanings.” Adrian says in a very matter of fact way.
“No, it doesn’t.” John argues.
“Then how do they always know what I mean?” Adrian asks, as if he’s proving his point.
Chris continues to laugh to himself as Adrian and Economos argue.
You’re deep in thought, not paying them any attention when Leota passes you the file you were looking for.
“Thanks!” You smile at her.
“Why is Adrian flipping you off?” She asks.
You look over at him, blushing. You nod.
“See!” Adrian yells throwing up his arms. “Two meanings! I told you!”
“Oh god.” You blush, hiding your face in one of the files. You didnt need the entire team knowing you were going home to have sex after this, but it’s not like it was that big of a surprise. You’d been dating Adrian for a while, of course you had a sex life. “I don’t know how or why he got it into his head that fuck you means can I fuck you- but like I personally think it’s very clever and very cute so I just don’t correct him.” You laugh, deciding to be honest with Leota.
You thought back to the first time he flipped you off in such a manner. You were out with the team celebrating with drinks after a mission. He threw up his middle finger, drawing a question mark in the air with the other hand. You looked at him with a confused look and mouthed. ‘Are you asking me to have sex with you?’ and he mouth back, ‘Isn’t it obvious?’. Only Adrian could think something like that was obvious. Only Adrian would even do something like that. You smiled, laughing quietly to yourself. It was so uniquely him.
Chris was still laughing uncontrollably in the back. He was thinking of the first time he’d seen Adrian do this too. Little did everyone else know Chris had been the one to teach it to him long before you were dating.
“You really wanna know how I pick up chicks across the bar?” Chris asked with a shit eating smirk.
“Please!” Adrian begged. He could pull girls as Vigilante no problem, but it was a lot harder without the suit.
“Be direct. Just ask if she wants to go home with you. The most subtle way to be direct is to flip her off.” Chris falsely informs.
“Wait… you want me to be subtle and direct? I’m confused.” Adrian asks.
“Well, yeah. You want her to know, not the whole bar.” Chris quickly lies.
“I always thought flipping somebody off was an insult.” Adrian is rightfully cautious.
“It has two meanings. It’s like special. Special can mean you’re one of a kind, cool, awesome, or it could be used the other way.” Chris explains.
“Oh! Okay!” Adrian smiles, before pausing, with a pondering facial expression. “Wait! You call me special all the time.”
“You should hit on that girl over there!” Chris redirects.
“Okay… here goes nothing…” Adrian says, slowly raising his middle finger. The girl looks shocked and starts to walk up to the two men at the bar. “Oh wow! I think it worked!”
Her pace picks up. She walks up to Adrian, slapping him, hard.
“Wait! This is positive! I’m hitting on you!” Adrian says frantically with his finger still up, as she walks away.
“Aw! Fuck! Do you think maybe she had a boyfriend?” Adrian asks, adjusting his glasses and rubbing his jaw.
“Yeah, maybe.” Chris laughs hysterically.

Is That Me?
Tumblr media
Character: Adrian Chase x Gn!Reader
Type: Fluff
Length: Drabble (500 words)
Summary: All month you have been ranting to your best friend about your celebrity crush and Adrian gets a little jealous. Little does he know that the face is quite familiar.
Trope: established relationship
A/N: Since Peacemaker confirmed that a lot of celebrities exist in the DC universe I thought this was adorable. Also, I saw someone do this with a different celebrity a long time ago so credit to them! Hope this will tie you guys over until I finish the requests since they are taking longer than I thought they would.
"Who is he?" Adrian stood in the doorway of your guy's shared bedroom with folded arms and a concerned look on his face. You looked up from your phone with a confused look.
"Who are you talking about?" You sat up on the bed with your phone in front of you. Adrian sighed heavily
"You know who. The dude you've been talking about non-stop." You couldn't help the smile that broke out on your face. You had been ranting to your best friend over the phone for weeks about this really handsome actor you came across recently because he looked exactly like your boyfriend.
A giggle bubbled up inside you and you started to laugh hard. You couldn't keep hiding the celebrity from Adrian.
"What's so funny?" He frowned at my reply. You almost felt bad but once he realized who it was he would feel much better.
"Are you jealous Adrian?"
"Gonna be honest yes I am a little bit! Who is he?" He came closer to me making me look up at him. Seeing him jealous was honestly really attractive.
"Do you really want to know?" You teased trying to keep pulling a reaction out of him.
"Yes." He whined. You unlocked your phone and typed up the actor you had been obsessing over. You hesitated to show him because the joke was really enjoyable. But you finally flipped over the phone to him and showed him.
At first, he squinted and adjusted his glasses to see the man better. Then his face morphed into confusion and shock.
"Is this me?" He exclaimed scrolling through the images that popped up of him. "He's me but blonde?" He looked so startled.
"No! Freddie Stroma." You giggled. Adrian sat down on the bed absolutely starstruck by the information of him having a look alike.
"Oh my god, I was in Harry Potter." He muttered. You continued to smile and laugh at his reaction. "Are you sure this isn't me? Did you like photoshop my face on some random guy's body?"
"I definitely did not." You watched his face morph into so many emotions. Curiosity, confusion, and some sort of happiness.
"So this whole time you've been obsessing over a guy that looks like me?" He still continued to scroll and look at everything he's done. You nodded a couple of times. "But I'm right here." He shrugged his shoulders. Adrian narrowed his eyes at the screen still flabbergasted by the whole situation.
"But do you have a hot British accent?" you joked.
"Yes. I do now!" He put on a fake voice making you kiss his cheek.
"I just wanted to see how you would react baby." You hummed hugging him from the side. "And now there's an actor that looks like my boyfriend," You repeated to kiss him on his cheek making his face go all warm.
"Please don't say you're going to leave me for actor me." He turned his head and had a look of genuine fear in his eyes for a minute before you cupped them and told him no.
"No honey I'm not going anywhere." He leaned in to capture your lips in a heartfelt kiss that made your heartbeat quicken. You didn't need a celebrity that looked like your boyfriend because you already had him in your arms.
"Are you still jealous?" you joked making him smile.
"Defiantly not because it's me." He smiled like a dork. You were happy to have your love in your life. "I guess I'm an actor now." You shook your head.
"Nah my boyfriend is the badass Vigilante."

Vigilante Hotline - Adrian Chase x Reader
Tumblr media
A/N: hi. my brain works in mysterious ways and i had this idea earlier on when i responded to an ask and now here we are, three hours later with a silly little vigilante fic. it's literally just text interactions, vig's texts are the ones that end with 🧜‍♂️ (obviously). but yeah. i had a lot of fun writing this, and i'll be SO happy to write more if y'all want it?? idk. anyway enjoy i guess!
Warnings: mentions of groping/non-consensual touching (grabbing ass, etc), creepy men, mentions of violence/injuries, language (are we surprised), and just vig being generally unhinged as always. (let me know if i've missed anything!!)
Word count: 2.9k. oops.
Summary: You text in to Vigilante's 'Vigilante Hotline' after a bad encounter at the club.
likes, comments and rbs are very much appreciated <3
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚
You've heard of it, of course you have. It's the town's worst kept secret. The little side hustle that Evergreen's favourite local murderer-slash-vigilante (who's conveniently named Vigilante) runs at the weekend, when the clubs and bars are busy and the creepy assholes come out to play, preying on and harassing unsuspecting victims who, by the end of the night, are probably too drunk to even remember their faces when they wake up.
The cops know about it, too. They've made weak attempts to shut down his operation over the last couple of months, but really he's doing them a favour. They're already in over their heads with calls when the Friday night crowd hits the town's nightlife, so why not just let him operate under their noses? At least, for now. Until they can apprehend him.
So, yeah. You know of it, but you've never utilised it before, because truthfully you've never really had a reason to. You like to party, but your nights out are usually spent with your girlfriends, keeping a close watch on each other and avoiding interactions with men who look like they're bad news like the plague. It's a system that works, one that keeps you out of trouble and away from bad pick-up lines and hands where you most definitely don't want them to be.
Tonight is different, though.
Your friend bailed on you at the last second, a family emergency, and you were already dressed up, so you decided that instead of wiping off your makeup and changing back into your sweats, you'd go out anyway. What's the worst that could happen?
You soon found out that the worst came in the form of Brett Lucas. A guy you knew in high school, someone you haven't spoken to in years. He found you at the bar, used the shittiest lines you've ever heard, and then bought you a drink. You decided to entertain it, because if he was willing to fund your night, then why not? You kept your hand firmly over your drink while he made derogatory jokes about other women and commented on your body and your dress. When he asked you to dance, you agreed, hoping you'd be able to lose him on the crowded dance floor.
That didn't happen, though. Instead, he got a little too touchy-feely, kept his hands firmly on your hips and pulled your body close to his until he got brave enough to slide them on to your ass and squeeze. Hard. You freaked out, told him to back the fuck off, and instead of showing any remorse, he cussed you out. Called you a fucking slut and told you that you're a bitch for leading him on and making him think he had a chance at getting into your pants.
Now, you're standing just down the street from the club, staring at the oddly professionally made poster that's been flimsily taped to a lamppost, a little picture of the all-too familiar masked man that you've seen on the news and wanted posters right in the middle.
Vigilante Hotline
Have you been a victim of a fucking creep in a club who just won't leave you the fuck alone?
Did the guy at the bar use his worst pick-up line and then immediately assume that you're into him and it's okay to touch you without your consent?
Do you wish you could fuck them up without having to face the consequences yourself?
It's your lucky day, because I can fuck them up for you!
Text their name and/or a description to the number below and I'll make them wish their mom swallowed!
(This part is just to cover my ass so, if I accidentally beat up or kill the wrong person... my bad!)
You chew down on your bottom lip, looking between your phone and the poster. You've never really been a vengeful person, you've never wished harm on anyone or caused harm to anyone, but in this moment, it's tempting. You're a little bit tipsy, irate and unsettled. The one night you decide to go out on your own, and this happens? It's a little too tempting.
But is what happened enough to contact a guy who's known and wanted for murder? Is what he did enough to warrant the beatdown of a lifetime?
You sigh to yourself before slipping your phone back into your purse, deciding that it's not worth it. But as you begin to walk away, you remember his loud, jarring cackle whenever he cracked himself up at his own shitty jokes. The way his eyes never met yours, always trained on your chest or your thighs. His gross, sweaty hands roaming all over your body before they went to grope you on the dance floor, thinking you wouldn't react because you were surrounded by other people and it'd be too embarrassing for you to make a scene.
No. Fuck it. That asshole deserves it.
You spin around quickly and pull out your phone, adding the number to your contacts and quickly typing out a message, sending it before you can even give yourself another second to think it through.
'Hey. First time texting in. Need some help. Brett Lucas. White blonde dyed hair. Awful beard, doesn't match his hair. Around 5'9. Wearing a pink shirt and black jeans. Got handsy with me. Grabbed my ass on the dance floor. Don't kill. Just rough him up a little, please.'
You don't even have a minute to breathe before your phone pings. Fuck. Alright. He's fast.
'Sick. A first time user. Happy to help. Where can I find him? 🧜‍♂️'
'He was in Dazy Nights, downtown. You know where that is?'
30 seconds pass. Your phone pings again.
'Yep. Got it. Thank god for GPS. Don't worry, first timer. I'll fuck him up the ass so hard his he'll wish he'd never even been born, as advertised. Not literally, though. I'm not gonna actually fuck him up the ass. That'd be weird. But not because I'm homophobic. My dad is gay. More because he's a creep and he touched you inappropriately. 🧜‍♂️'
"What..." You mumble under your breath as you read the text, an incredulous giggle escaping you. This guy, whoever he is, is seriously fucked in the head, you decide. A little funny, too. But you can't complain too much. You contacted him, you made the choice to text his number and incite some indirect revenge. So you just shake your head, and text back.
'Thank you. I appreciate it. Again, don't kill. Just get him good.'
'Noted! No problemo. But if you ever do need me to kill, don't hesitate to ask, first timer. Seriously, I'm so down for it. Guys like that deserve it. 🧜‍♂️'
You decide to cut the conversation there, sliding your phone back into your purse. You feel a little sick to your stomach as you walk yourself home, guilt and regret stalking you the entire way, following you into your home and crawling into bed with you.
But as you lay there, wide awake, you remind yourself of what he said. Guys like that deserve it. And maybe he's right. Maybe this is for the best, maybe next time fucking Brett will think twice before making unwanted advances. Maybe you've saved someone else from the suffering the same fate as yourself at his hands.
That thought helps you sleep a little easier.
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚
Monday rolls around quicker than you'd have liked it to, and all you've been able to think about over the weekend is that short conversation you had with Evergreen's own Vigilante a few nights ago. You spent all of Saturday morning re-reading the messages. Saturday night was spent in front of the TV, with some rom-com you've been meaning to watch playing as background noise while you thought about the messages. Sunday, you tried to distract yourself. You went out for brunch with a few friends, but as soon as you made it through your front door, your mind wandered right back to him and that silly little mermaid emoji that made his threats of murder seem a little lighter.
You wonder if he actually did it; whether he made good on his promise to fuck him up so badly that he'd be wishing he was never born. Part of you hopes he did, that he managed to find that fucker before he made it home and gave him a beating he'll never forget. The other part of you hopes that he missed out on the opportunity, if only to subside the quiet, yet nagging, guilty conscience in your head.
Work is a welcome distraction from the weekends events. Deadlines that need to be met, lunch with your co-workers, and your micro-managing boss that never seems to leave you the fuck alone when you're trying to do your job. It's all incredibly exhausting and boring, but at least it gives you the chance to take your mind off of what happened at the weekend, and the masked vigilante that's been invading your thoughts all weekend.
You haven't thought about it all day, until you pull up to the grocery store after work, and you see him. Brett.
He hasn't seen you, you're safely locked away in your car, but you can see him. He's standing outside the store, cigarette in hand, talking to a guy who you can only assume is one of his friends – he looks like he's just as much of an asshole as Brett. From where you're parked, you can see the shiner of a black eye on his face, dark blue bruising that extends to his forehead. There's numerous cuts and scrapes on his cheeks, and it's looks like his lips have been completely bust up.
It makes you feel slightly ill, looking at him, knowing that you're the one behind this. But at the same time, you can't help but smile to yourself, feeling weirdly... satisfied.
You grab your bag and pull out your phone, unlocking it and scrolling through your texts until you find the chat with the contact you've named 'VH'. You stare at your screen for at least a minute, re-reading the short conversation from Friday night over and over again. You want to text him. Hell, you've found yourself wanting to text him again all weekend, and you can't quite seem to place your finger on why that is. What would you even say to him? 'Hey, thanks for doing at great job at fucking up that guy's face, I really appreciate it'?
With a sigh, you lock your phone, trying to kick the urge to converse with a vigilante to the curb. But before you know it, you're typing in your password again and sending him a 'Hey'.
You keep the chat open, but you make a point out of looking away from the screen, hoping that if you don't look, he'll reply faster. Minutes pass by, and you're slightly disappointed by the absence of the jarring pinging of your notification bell. Then you remember that he probably has a life outside of being Vigilante. He's most likely just a normal guy, with a normal job and friends and family, he probably doesn't spend all of his time checking whatever burner phone he uses to run the hotline.
Just as you're about to lose hope that he'll respond, your phone pings.
'Woah, hey. First timer's a second timer already? Did you get yourself into trouble just so you could talk to me? 🧜‍♂️'
It pings again, a few moments later.
'For the record, that was a joke. If you're in trouble again, I'm sure it's not your fault and I'm more than happy to help. Though I gotta remind you that I usually only do this hotline stuff on weekends, but I'd be more than willing to extend my hours. For you. What can I do for you? 🧜‍♂️'
You feel your face heat up, a grin beginning to creep across your lips as you read the two texts. 'For you'. That's oddly sweet. He's oddly sweet. You know what he's done, you know he kills people. You've heard the whispers around town, stories from the people who've been lucky enough break the law and survive one of Vigilante's attacks. Yet you can't help but be taken in by how... charming he is. Sure, this is only the second conversation you've had with him, but he's been so kind. Funny, too, in his own way.
The rush you get from texting him is intoxicating, and it only makes you want more. So you type out a response, and hit send.
'Nothing! I didn't get in trouble again. I wouldn't want you working overtime for me. But I did wanna talk to you. Just to say thank you for what you did for me. I saw Brett. You got him good. Gave him a real shiner of a black eye.'
Just a minute later.
'HA. Yeah. You should have seen it. He took a real beating. He cried like a fucking BABY. Begged me not to kill him. I made him apologise for harassing women, too. It was HILARIOUS. You were right about the beard, btw. Definitely makes him look even more of an asshole🧜‍♂️'
You're surprised to see a video loading up on your screen.
'He definitely didn't mean it, life or death situations call for desperate measures I guess. But at least you can laugh at him and his stupid fucking face. 🧜‍♂️'
Although you're hesitant to press play, you do so anyway. There, on your screen, is Brett. Beaten and bloody, begging for his life, and apologising through his tears for being a creep. Saying sorry for using bad pick-up lines, and objectifying women's bodies, and... groping asses on the dance floor. You freeze up when you hear that, a wave of panic washing over you. Does he... does he know that you're the one that sent Vigilante after him? Fuck. You didn't even consider the possibility that he'd put two and two together and figure out that it was you who texted in. You have to know if he knows, if Vigilante mentioned anything specific about why he went after Brett.
'You're right. That's funny. But I need to ask you something.'
'Anything! 🧜‍♂️'
'Does Brett know that I'm the one who texted you? Did you mention anything about me or what happened?'
You chew on your bottom lip as you await a response, and when you read his reply, you're more than relieved.
'Nah. I didn't say anything. I wouldn't. Vigilante-client confidentiality, and all that. He was the one that mentioned names. A whole list of them, actually. Kinda concerning how many women he named that could've been the one to contact me about him.🧜‍♂️'
'Okay. Cool. I guess I just never thought of the consequences of texting in. I didn't consider that maybe he'd know it was me. Had me kinda panicked for a sec.'
'Don't worry, I made it clear that if he ever tried to approach or contact you or any of the other women he named, I'd find out. And I'd kill him for it. You're safe. I got you. 🧜‍♂️'
For what feels like the hundredth time in, you find yourself smiling down at your phone as you read his text.
'Thank you. I appreciate that :). Hopefully you've taught him a lesson. Maybe he'll stay home when the weekend comes around. I think he'd be doing everyone a favour.'
'Hopefully! Listen, I gotta buzz. Work stuff. Not Vigilante work. I only do that stuff at night. Like my actual job kind of work. But I'll talk to you later, first timer. 🧜‍♂️'
'Yeah, of course. Sorry for bothering you while you're at work. And thank you, again.'
You take a deep breath before sending another text.
'My name is (Y/N), btw <3'
'First timer has a name? Fucking sweet. Obviously I know you have a name but you never told me, so in my head I've just been calling you first timer. But now you're (Y/N), which is cool. So talk later, (Y/N)! 🧜‍♂️'
'<3 🧜‍♂️'
You throw your phone on to the passenger seat, like it's burning hot to the touch and it's just scalded you. Did you... did you seriously just send a heart to Vigilante? And did he seriously just send one back? Wait, no. The heart isn't the biggest problem. You just told him your name. Your real name. What if he finds you? What if this whole funny-charming-kind thing is just an act, and you end up bleeding in a dark alley within a month?
"Fuck..." You mumble, leaning your head back against your seat, wondering what the hell you've just gotten yourself into. Wondering if you should just block his number and never think about him again.
It's a stupid idea, getting involved with someone like him. One that could leave you hurt, or dead. Anyone would call you crazy for it. You probably are crazy for it. But that's not enough to deter you from reaching for your phone and grinning down at it when he texts you later that night.
'Hey. 🧜‍♂️'
It's a dangerous game, but one that you're more than willing to play.

this fic is race/ hair type/ body type neutral; why does that matter? If you feel I’ve overlooked something in regard to this, no matter how “small”, please let me know!
@stealsteels threatened to BEAT ME UP (real) if I didn't post this so I'm doing it.
(…in all seriousness, thank you for all of your encouragement, it truly means the world ♡)

as noted, this contains spanking. It is of course fully consensual, something reader explicitly asks for and (most importantly) NOT a punishment, but I realize it still isn’t everyone's thing, so please be mindful.
also this is incredibly self indulgent and tbh maybe a little out of character, and turned out a lot fluffier and domestic that I intended.

You hear him before you see him. A double shift at Fennel Fields followed by hours of shooting a bunch of appliances in the woods with Chris and he still careens into your apartment with all the intensity and finesse of a hurricane. The endless amount of energy he seemed to have was sometimes baffling, and while it was usually fun to have your own personal Energizer bunny around (especially in bed), sometimes you really envied it.
You especially envy it on days like today when you felt like you could barely drag yourself through a comparatively low stakes and low effort day.
That feeling doesn’t last long though, because as soon as he toes his shoes off (a task that takes significantly longer than it should because he refuses to untie his laces, insisting that it’s faster even though it clearly isn’t) and rounds the corner into the kitchen, he shoots you his signature smile and you instantly feel that warmth you only seem to feel around him.
Shoes successfully removed, he ambles over to where you stand in front of the stove, fanning yourself as you lower the heat of the burner. Strong arms instinctively find their way around your waist and he nuzzles into your side, dropping tiny kisses to your cheek. Said kisses are, of course, mostly a means of distraction so that he can reach around you to grab the spoon you'd been stirring with and stick the entire thing in his mouth, but it’s still cute enough to earn him a few kisses in return.
You return to stirring (with a new spoon), humming your replies as he launches into his recap of the day’s events. The recaps are rarely linear (sometimes they're not even coherent), so by now you’re used to the way he flip flops between how crazy the recoil from Chris' Desert Eagle was (“I mean yeah okay, I shot it without his permission, but holy shit babe that thing is crazy! Maybe I should get one. I mean when you think about it it’s actually kind of weird that we don’t have matching guns. Do you think he would think that was weird? If I got the same gun as him?”), to how he’d broken a guy's kneecaps after he'd caught him pushing his girlfriend into a wall in a dark alley, to how some other guy had actually proposed at Fennel Fields (“but don’t worry babe, when I propose it’ll be somewhere way nicer. Like at least  Olive Garden or better.”)
The last bit earns him an eye roll and a nudge to the ribs, but you still can’t help the grin that pulls at your lips.
With dinner done, he finally disentangles himself from you to grab the plates and silverware and plops down in front of the tv. Tonight you’re finishing up the latest season of Barry (a show he finds hilarious, more for the gore than the actual comedy), but the second you take your seat next to him his arms immediately find their way around your middle.
“You know you can’t eat if you’re holding me, right?” you question, arching an eyebrow at him.
Undeterred, he pulls you even tighter, insisting that he “totally can though!”
“I’ve mastered the art. See, look,” He demonstrates said “mastery” by pulling you into his chest and bringing his plate around so that it sits on his open palm in front of you. He grins down at you, hopeful you’ll just ignore the high likelihood of pasta sauce spilling down your front with one wrong move. You pat his cheek and shake your head no, moving to separate your bodies. He pouts, truly pouts at you and once again find yourself unable to hide your smile.
“Okay okay, what about if you lay down on my chest and I put my plate on your back?”
“Then how would I eat?”
He ponders this for a second until you see another lightbulb go off.
“Okay, what about you sit in my lap and hold your plate and I-”
“I swear, if you suggest putting your plate on my head...”
“You didn’t let me finish!”
Another skeptical look before you sigh and motion for him to finish.
“...But yes I was going to say that.”
The way he seems to so desperately want this to work is perhaps a little annoying, but mostly very cute and endearing. Another eye roll makes it clear that his request is out of the question, and he’ll, for the time being, have to settle for eating like a normal person.
You turn your attention back to the screen just in time to see a guy's brains splatter as he gets shot in the head point blank. Despite the fact that you know about Adrian’s propensity for violence, it still gets to you and you wince. He pulls you tightly into his side, rubbing soothing circles into your shoulder and you settle into his touch, muttering your thanks into his sweatshirt and pressing a grateful peck to his chin. You sigh contentedly and press your face into his side and your eyes drift closed as you inhale his scent.
A bark of laughter jolts you awake. You hadn’t even realized you’d fallen asleep, but sure enough when you look up the credits are rolling. You yawn and stretch, craning your neck to look up at him and he seems to immediately sense your stare. He smiles that smile, the one that’s sweet like his normal one but also not, doing absolutely nothing to hide the fact that he’s thinking about something not so sweet, and the proof of what he exactly he's thinking is now pressing up against you. You turn to face him fully, taking in his lopsided smile and the slight splotchy blush creeping over his neck and plant a small teasing kiss to the corner of his mouth.
Obviously this isn’t enough for him, and he leans over to gently grab the back of your neck and pulls you to him. The kiss is… kind of a lot, to be honest, but most things with Adrian are. Overeager as always he wastes no time licking along the seam of your mouth, asking for entry. You don't oblige him, not yet, opting to tease him instead as you nip his bottom lip.
You hug him closer, feeling the muscles in his back flex under your touch as he tilts your head to the side to suck at the skin of your neck. You move to straddle him but he's already getting impatient and makes a frustrated sound as he grips your thighs and pulls you the rest of the way into his lap. With you seated fully on top of him, he moves one hand to your hip to hold you solidly in place while the other snakes up under your shirt. Adrian is rarely smooth and tonight is no exception. His hands move over you as if he's unsure where to go or where to stop, touching you like it's the first time. They ghost over your stomach and up between your breasts before finally settling on your ass in a nice firm hold.
He finally frees your neck, laving sloppy kisses over your tender skin before pulling away completely. The momentary loss of contact is enough for you to come back to your senses and you push lightly against his chest.
“Hi.” Hi? You scoff at yourself. Great start.
You have no idea why you’re feeling so self-conscious all of a sudden, especially when he's looking at you like that.
The way he noticeably focuses when you have something to say, absorbing your every word is endearing but sometimes it also feels so intense. Especially now, when he’s sitting here, half hard underneath you, eyes growing wide and curious under his large frames.
You gather yourself and clear your throat.
“I uh, I actually wanted to talk about something. To ask you something, actually. I mean, we obviously don’t have to do it tonight, or do anything tonight. I mean I know you’ve had a really long day so I don’t want you to feel obligated to do it tonight, or at all even, if you don't want to. I don’t even know if it’s something you’d be interested in so, no pressure, obviously.”
You’re way too aware of the fact that you’re rambling, which is typically more of an Adrian thing than a you thing, but despite (or maybe because of) your awareness, you can’t seem to stop. The words just keep tumbling out, and now you’re getting flustered and a little bit annoyed with yourself, in large part because it's Adrian for Christ's sake. He's never judged you for your desires and you know it's not in his nature. Even now he just sits there, ignoring his own arousal, patiently waiting for you to get the words out, tracing comforting (albeit distracting) shapes against the tops of your thighs. In spite of all this you still struggle with simply just saying what you want– what you need. You take another breath.
"I want…"
You had what felt like the most supportive partner in the world, so why did this feel so fucking hard?
He nods, squeezing your sides, encouraging you to continue. “Tell me what you want. Tell me and I'll give it to you.”
"I, uh, I want you to spank me." You hold your breath, gauging his reaction carefully.
He immediately perks up at this and just like that, you’re at ease again. Not even a hint of the hesitation or confusion (or even worse, judgment or disgust) you’d dealt with the few times you’d brought it up with previous partners. Not even the well meaning (but kind of annoying) "I don't want to hurt you" you'd come to expect. Then again, this is Adrian, your Adrian, and now you’re wondering why you were even worried in the first place.
Then again, it wasn't like this was exactly a shocking revelation. Adrian already knew you liked some pain and he’d been more than happy to give you the occasional playful spank before, in and out of the bedroom. Even though what you're asking for now was much different, his reaction is a huge relief.
For his part, he sits there, fucking beaming at you. His eyes drift to your lips again, tongue sneaking out to lick his own as he leans in to nip at you this time. For a moment he lingers, like he can’t decide whether he wants to kiss you or move back down to your neck. He goes with the former, pulling you into a searing kiss. You don’t consider yourself the type to get easily flustered, but fuck if he isn’t literally taking your breath away right now. He pushes his tongue into your mouth, payback for earlier, and you gasp. His hand moves to cradle the back of your neck again, squeezing just the tiniest bit. You know he's barely using any of his strength and that knowledge makes you shudder.
“So, how do you want to do this?”
You laugh, “I um…” To be honest, you kind of hadn’t really put much thought into logistics and the kiss wasn't making it any easier to think.
You don’t have to flounder for too long though, because now that you’ve put the idea into his head, he’s running with it.
“Want me to bend you over the couch?”
Another thing most people don’t know about Adrian, and you’re thankful for this, is how… focused he can be. Especially when properly motivated.
“Or I could put you over my lap. Get you nice and relaxed and just… help get all the tension out. Would you like that? Hm?” Hia hands have drifted back to your ass and he pinches it now to emphasize his point, making you yelp.
You can tell how excited he’s getting both by the way he continues to ramble and by the way he’s started to absentmindedly rut up against you. You don’t think he even realizes he’s doing it because he’s still talking, seemingly completely unaware.
“Maybe we should get a paddle. I’d love to see your ass jiggle when I hit it with a paddle. Fuck, do you have one? Should we get one right now? Or a riding crop. Or- what are those things with all the tassels?”
“Adrian, do you really want to buy a flogger right now? Or do you want to take me to bed?"
“Right, right.” Without warning, he stands and you do your best to cling to him as he makes his way to your bedroom. From this position it’s harder to grind against him, but that doesn’t stop you from trying. You press your lips against the long column of his throat, moving up from his Adam’s apple to kiss behind his ear. You move back down and up again, repeating the action on the other side. He groans, deep and guttural and filthy, and you think it’s the loveliest sound you’ve ever heard.
“Stopstopstop, you’re distracting me!” He huffs, cutely, like he really has the audacity to be annoyed right now.
You grin into his neck, unable to stop yourself from softly nibbling his ear.
He places you down on the bed, crawling over you to kiss down your neck and you arch into him, hands sliding down his chest, toned muscles apparent despite the thick material of his sweatshirt, before reaching his waistband. You move to tug them down, desperate to feel him in your hands but he quickly grabs both your wrists and holds them above your head. He pulls back to look at you, smiling a very different smile now.
You try in vain to tug your wrists free, whining for him to let you go so you can touch him, but the look he fixes you with is enough to shut you up. Slowly, slowly he trails his free hand down your chest and slips it into your shorts, rubbing you over your panties.
You moan, clamping your thighs around his hand and grinding yourself into his touch, growing more and more desperate by the second. When he finally he relents and releases your hands you're panting, but you waste no time wrapping your arms around his neck and tangling your hands in his curls as he returns to your neck, kisses turning to bites.
He rucks your shirt all the way up and you lift so he can finish tugging it over your arms. You shiver, fully exposed to him now and he bends down to take one nipple in his mouth, alternating between gentle bites and sucks while circling the other with his thumb and you sigh dreamily, pushing up into his touch.
Your hand drifts back to the nape of his neck, absently dragging your nails up and down the back of his scalp, dark curls running through your fingers and he groans against your skin. You move for his pants again but he bites your nipple that much harder; a clear warning.
He releases your nipple and you think he's switching to the other one but he instead fixes you with another stern look. His voice is lower this time when he speaks.
“Are you gonna behave, or do I need to tie you up?”
You can’t help the shiver that runs through you, or the whimper that escapes your lips at his words.
As enticing as the offer is, you’re starting to get antsy. You nod your head and mutter your assent and he smirks, seemingly satisfied with your answer.
The look he gives you this time is much softer but it still makes your blood run hot, makes you feel like the electricity in your nerves is sparking just under your skin. You turn your head to the side and without missing a beat he grabs your chin lightly, guiding your gaze back to him.
Heat rushes up your neck to your cheeks, but you make yourself hold his gaze. His pupils are almost completely blown black now, cheeks ruddy and lips set in a firm line.
"I care about making you feel good.” The sincerity in his voice floods you with warmth.
“Are you gonna let me?”
You whimper, wishing he’d just go back to kissing you, but you know the question isn’t rhetorical.
“Yes, yes, please Adrian just- please”, you pant, stretching up, wordlessly begging him to kiss you again, to do something, but he doesn't relent. He just holds your gaze while you pout and squirm under him.
“Now, tell me what you want.”
You peer up at him, uncertain of what he means. “I told you, I want you-”
“No, tell me exactly what you want. Be specific. Do you… do you want me to punish you?” His voice quiets a bit at the end.
“No! No, I don’t. I don’t want it to be a punishment. I-I don’t know. I just…  I do want it to hurt but... I more just want to not think, just for a while. Sorry, that’s not what you asked but-”
“No, no that’s good. That’s good.”
He finally lets go of your wrists and kneads the muscles in your shoulders. The warmth and pressure from his hands soothes your nerves and you sigh and smile up at him.
“Alright, get over my lap then.”
You scramble to obey, already dizzy with anticipation. You feel giddy with it, and despite your nerves you couldn't deny how badly you wanted this– wanted to feel his hands on you, wanted him to make you feel release only the way he could.
You splay yourself over his spread legs, head resting on the pillow you’d grabbed. Now that you’re unable to see what he’s doing, your mind starts to race. Your pulse quickens, and you start to get that familiar floaty feeling you get whenever he takes control and you get to let go.
He puts one hand on the small of your back and with the other he finally, mercifully, tugs at your waistband. You can feel just how hard he's gotten now as he presses into your hip, but he doesn’t move. Adrian isn't much for teasing but he makes no move to touch you, so you wiggle your hips in the hope that it’ll get him to do… something. He presses firmly on your lower back and you huff, but still yourself anyway. He slowly smooths over the muscles in your lower back, pressing deeper and deeper until you relax into his touch.
He moves lower, gripping the meat of your ass, kneading it softly, and you’re not sure if the gentle touches are genuine or if he’s trying to get you to let your guard down before he starts.
He unceremoniously spreads your legs, dipping his hand between your thighs before ghosting his fingers over your lips. He moves to circle your clit over your underwear and you moan into the pillow, bucking your hips back into his hand, searching for more of whatever he’s willing to give you.
You should’ve known better again, because as soon as you do, his hand comes down squarely against your ass. The pain isn’t so bad, but the sound is enough to make you jump.
"Oh." he says quietly, pushing his glasses back up the bridge of his nose. "I see."
You're not sure exactly what he means by this but you don't have time to think about it too hard before he brings his hand down again, this time on the other cheek. He stops briefly and you move to turn and ask if that's all he intends to do, but you feel another stinging slap before you get the chance.
“You said you wanted it to hurt, right?” You mumble a "yes", high and breathy, into the pillow that’s smushed against your face.
"Then ask me nicely."
Fuck.
"Adrian, please, please, fucking- just - harder please."
The pace he sets now is unrelenting. You pretty quickly become aware of the fact that he's making sure there's no pattern for you to predict and the thought makes you even giddier.
One smack, and then another, the stinging pain hovering just on the edge of too much, dulling all of your other senses. You start to get that familiar hazy feeling, and you relax into it, welcome it, will it to take you over completely.
Left, left, left, right, left again, one sharp, followed by a few open handed ones to your thigh in quick succession. All the while he's rubbing small, tight circles against your clit with his other hand.
His fingers move to tease your entrance, rubbing small circles into you and like the slaps he's doling out they seem to have no predictable rhythm.
"I think… this is really unlocking something in me," he mutters, more to himself than to you.
You’d been so focused on what he was doing that you only now realize how embarrassingly loud your moans had been, but his comment draws something out of you. You’re whining and writhing against him, not even trying to look dignified at this point, the sensation verging on overwhelming but so so good.
Suddenly it’s gone, and you whine in protest. For a moment everything is still, and you realize for the first time how quickly your heart is beating.
“Still okay?”
You don’t think you can form words right now, but you groan an affirmative, hoping it gets your message across. Adrian gently tilts your chin so he can look into your eyes and confirm. “Yes?” he questions, and your heart warms at the way he asks, at the way he always wants to be certain. The way he's biting his lip also tells you you’re not the only one who's enjoying this.
You exhale sharply, forcing your brain and mouth to actually form words, making sure your "yes" is clear. He nods once in return and releases your chin, and you sigh as you sink into the pillow again. Once you're comfortable, he starts again.
"Good girl. Keep being good for me.”
The sharp stinging pain and the dull thudding of his open palm are starting to run together, all becoming one sensation. He grips the fat of your ass again with one hand, releases it and brings the other hand down. He repeats this a few more times; squeezing, releasing and then bringing his hand down quickly before the blood has the chance to rush back under your skin, gauging your reactions each time, cataloging every whimper, moan and twitch, every shudder, flinch and squeal and rewarding each in kind.
“You like that? You like it when I hurt you like this? You like my fingers rubbing your pretty little clit like this?”
With this he runs his fingers back through the slick between your legs, teasing a finger against your opening.
"Jesus, fuck, look at you. Is this all for me? Yeah? Answer me." You can’t help but whine at that, telling him "Yes, yes it's all for you, all for you Adrian!" hiccuping and helpless to do anything but feel him.
He continues, “I think I know what you want, but you know you have to use your words,” he chides. “Can you do that for me?”
“Yes, yes! Pleasepleaseplease” You’re nearly sobbing now, tears you hadn't even noticed before falling freely now.
“I think I have something you’ll like even better,” he says, and your heart leaps at the thought of what he could possibly have in mind. You move to turn to him, but a firm hand on your back keep you in place.
He draws his hand back and you brace yourself for the inevitable impact, but it doesn't come. You huff, knowing full well he's absolutely got the shittiest grin on his face but you refuse to turn around this time, refuse to give him the satisfaction of seeing your annoyance. So the two of you just sit there, momentarily suspended, at the world’s tensest, horniest impasse. You, over his lap, your panties hanging off of your ankle, and him, with presumably one hand raised in the air and one tracing faint shapes into the skin of your inner thighs.
"You," he starts, taking a deliberate breathe like he's trying to compose himself, trying to stave off the arousal he's thus far been able to keep at bay. He’s still got his pants on, and the combination of that and you writhing and moaning on top of him is starting to become unbearable.
"You have no fucking idea what you do to me."
He sounds dangerous now, voice too measured and now the tension is really starting to get to you.
He’s moving on the bed, doing his best to not jostle you too much but you can still feel his hips and cock shift under you as he reaches over to the drawer on your side of the bed.
You hear him rifling through it, various objects clattering as he tosses them around. You use this time to ground yourself, taking a few deep breaths but they do little to stop the way your blood is still rushing under your skin. You have an idea of what he’s looking for, but you don’t dare turn around to confirm your suspicions.
Finally, the rustling stops and he chuckles triumphantly.
He’s quiet again. Suspiciously, unnervingly quiet. Adrian is so rarely quiet that when he is it's noticeable. He’s still lazily running his fingers between your thighs, purposefully avoiding your clit this time, despite the insistent roll of your hips. Like he’s got all the time in the fucking world.
You hear the telltale buzz of the Magic Wand behind you, but he doesn’t give you time to register it before he pushes the head right up against your clit. You cry out, the sensation immediately far too intense, but despite your struggle he continues to firmly hold you in place. You whine pathetically, the pressure and vibration too much too soon, and he eases up just a little so the vibrations are still strong, but not so overwhelming.
You keep squirming, you can’t help it, and he moves the toy from your clit. This time you chase it, now desperate for stimulation and he chuckles above you and spanks your ass again.
“Fuck!” You cry out, burying your face into the pillow again. You know how you probably look, completely fucked out, tears splilling freely from your eyes now as you sob ugly and way too loud sobs, but you can't think about that right now. You were close, so so close. You just needed that extra little push.
“You’re doing so well baby. Can you take a few more?” and he asks so sweetly you can't even think about saying no.
Adrian returns to rubbing the small of your back, his voice a little softer now. He knows the telltale signs of your impending orgasm, and he always knows how to get you over the edge.
You gasped an “uh-huh”, arching into his touch and this time he allows it and repositions the toy directly against your clit again. Despite his softer tone, his hand comes down again just as hard and unrelenting as before and you’re honestly glad he isn’t going softer now that he knows you’re close.
He turns the vibration up a little more and the extra stimulation is exactly what you need. You feel your body seize momentarily as you clench and shake and for a split second everything feels still before your orgasm crests and breaks over you.
You hold onto that feeling for as long as you can, letting the wave break and settle and feeling your brain go blissfully hazy.
You feel floaty, your body feeling absolutely spent, wrung out completely and everything in that moment feels so perfect.
Adrian slowly ghost gentle touches over your back and down over your ass and thighs. You feel something cool and sigh contentedly as he rubs lotion into your stinging flesh.
You work to steady your breathing, reveling in the feeling of his gentle touch and the sweet praises he mumbles.
He knows you sometimes get a little dizzy and fucked out after you cum, (loves it, really) so he waits for you to gather yourself. Once he finishes you roll onto your stomach.
You wouldn't blame him for being self satisfied or even cocky in this moment, but the smile he wears now is anything but. It's just warm and sweet, like him.
He grabs one of the small hand towels you keep in the bedside drawers and gently wipes you down, knowing how much you hate the feeling of sweat on your skin after and helps you pull a fresh pair of underwear and one of his oversized shirts on as you settle into his lap.
“Was it.. was it good for you? Was it too hard?” You hear the little bit of worry start to creep into his voice and you’re quick to reassure him.
“No, no not at all. It was perfect Adj. You know I would’ve stopped you if something was wrong.”
He visibly relaxes at this, and resumes running his fingers over your tender flesh, humming softly.
It’s quiet, and for a while the only sound you’re aware of is your breathing. When he speaks again, it’s like he’s already in the middle of a thought.
“But seriously. Whatever you need, you know I’m happy to do it for you. And you know how much I love taking care of you. I just always want to make sure I make you feel good, you know?”
You smile at his confession. “Yeah, I know. And thank you. Seriously."
You clear your throat. “It's just nice to have someone who cares, you know?”
He hums thoughtfully, still rubbing your skin gently.
"I know you care about me as a person, and I'm not saying you're the only one who does. I meant more, it's nice to have someone who cares about making me feel good. Not to say that other people were just using me for sex but… with you it's just,” you go quiet again. “It’s just different."
“So thank you. For… this. For not being weirded out by it, I mean. And for doing it, of course.”
You sit up so you can look him in the eye now and he pulls you into him fully, arms tight and secure. The last thing you're aware of before you drift off this time is his scent as he kisses your temple.

“I had him!” you snarled, striding up to Adrian until the two of you were practically nose-to-nose. He had ripped his mask off earlier, seeing no point in keeping it on when everybody on the team was already very well aware of his not-so-secret secret identity. “He was the only shot we had at getting information and you just fucking—Argh! You ruined everything, you dumb fucking piece of motherfucking—!”
Raising his hands in a condescendingly placating manner, Adrian retorted, “Woah! Watch it, potty mouth!”
Frustration crawled through your skin and wove beneath your muscles, nestling within your bones. “God, I hate you. This was my mission. You had no right interfering—!”
“Well, excuse me, first of all, this was our mission. Second, I’m sorry for saving your ass!” he interrupted. “If it hadn’t been for me, you would be out there, bleeding out of multiple gunshot wounds, thinking to yourself, ‘Oh, I wish Vigilante was here to come rescue me! He’s so handsome and I wish I could have sex with him just one more time and tell him how sorry I am for being a dick and ignoring him and pretending like it had never fucking happened!’”
You clenched your jaw, eye twitching. Sure, the two of you had slept together once—it was the heat of the moment and the adrenaline after a bloody fight, really—sodden clothes were hastily torn away or pulled to the side, bleeding lips were roughly slanted against each other, and he had fucked you on top of Chris’ messy desk with wild abandon. So fucking what?
“I was more than capable of handling the situation on my own.”
“Oh, were you, really?” Adrian rolled his eyes. “Don’t kid yourself. Honestly, sometimes it feels like you wouldn’t even care if you died—!”
With a growl rumbling within your throat, you wound your arm back, clenched your hand into a tight fist, and struck Adrian squarely in the face. A bilious crack echoed throughout the dingy room. He reared backwards, clutching his most-likely broken nose, groaning loudly.
You were well aware of the fact that the rest of the team was awkwardly watching the two of you hash it out. Tentative, Adebayo started saying, “Guys, I think we—”
“No!” you cut her off. “Fuck you, Adrian.”
With that, you stormed out of the room, ripping off the rest of your tactical gear along the way and cold fury wrapping its dark hands around your neck.
“Fuck,” Adrian said, all stuffy from his bleeding nose. “That made me so hard.”
Chris smacked him on the back of his head, which made him squawk with pain.
Tumblr media
“I don’t know, man,” said Chris, sticking his tongue out the corner of his mouth as he concentrated on scribbling a dove of peace on another one of his weapons that Harcourt hadn’t bothered emblazing, despite his repeated insistence. “Maybe you should apologize to Y/N. They seemed really pissed.”
Blowing a raspberry, Adrian waved his most best friend’s advice away. “Pfft—no, if anything, they should be the one apologizing to me. Did you see how my nose was all bloody and crooked?”
Chris momentarily turned his attention away from the crude drawing of the dove of peace (which, unsurprisingly, looked like a ghost), and scowled at the spectacled, borderline psychotic man-child across from him. “Jeez, stop overreacting. Harcourt set your nose back right after, don’t be such a baby.”
“But it hurt!” Adrian whined. “You know that a person’s sense of smell is probably, like, the most important sense out of all the senses?”
“I don’t think that’s true.”
“Uh huh—scented candle businesses would go bankrupt if none of us could smell!”
Narrowing his eyes, Chris replied, “Yeah, but how the fuck would that make it the most important—ugh, you know what? Just go apologize to them. We have another mission tomorrow morning and I don’t want their panties in a twist because of you.”
Adrian chortled. “Heh, wouldn’t be the first time I twisted their pa—” At Chris’ sharp glare, he immediately cut himself short. “Fine! I’ll go, I’ll go. If I die, please play an episode of Friends at my funeral—specifically the episode where they hire Danny Devito as a stripper. I really liked that episode. I liked it a lot. You got that?”
“Yeah, Danny Devito, stripper, funeral, got it!” retorted Chris, clearly not listening anymore as he waved Adrian away.
Squaring his shoulders, Adrian marched away from his trusted friend and headed to the room down the hall, pushing the door open and peeking his head through. He saw you buried behind a pile of paperwork on your desk, muttering incoherently beneath your breath.
When you noticed him come in, he pursed his lips and waved awkwardly, shutting the door behind him.
“Hey,” he called out from the other side of the room, a bit too loudly. You winced at his volume, and he moved closer before parroting himself, this time much quieter. “Hey.”
“Hey,” came your tentative, stiff reply. “What do you want?”
The man in front of your desk cleared his throat, rocking himself back onto his heels as he swung his arms awkwardly. “I, uh, just wanted to apologize.”
“Oh, yeah?” You crossed your arms, cocking one of your eyebrows expectantly. “Go on, then.”
“I’m…” Adrian doubled over groaning, stomping his feet like a petulant child, before righting himself and huffing in an overexaggerated manner. “Ugh, I hate this. Fuck—I’m sorry, okay? I shouldn’t have said those things to you. It was unprofessional.”
Humming, the beginnings of a smirk began to play with the corner of your lips. “Great, thanks. You can go now.”
Adrian stayed rooted to the spot, staring at you blankly.
“What?” you asked him.
He scowled, gesturing to his slightly-crooked nose.
Rolling your eyes to the ceiling, you sighed. “Fine. I’m sorry for punching you. Happy?”
“Yeah, pfft, whatever—doesn’t even hurt,” he bluffed, leaning his weight onto your desk in an effort to appear nonchalant.
You scoffed. “With how you were groaning, you made it sound like I nearly killed you.”
“You’ve got a strong punch, okay?” he heatedly rebutted, before haughtily sticking his sore chin up in the air. After another second of tense silence, he glanced at you from the corner of his eyes, pushing his glasses further up the bridge of his fucked-up nose. He coughed into his fist, before muttering, “Honestly, though… it was really fucking hot.”
Tumblr media
The dull wooden edge of your desk dug into your lower back as Adrian leaned over you, mouth rough on yours, glasses knocked askew amidst his vigor. One of his hands were buried in your roots at the back of your head, anchoring you close to him, and the other pinned your thighs apart so he could slot between them. Your hands were tightly curled up in the gap between his sweltering skin and his suit’s dark armor, yanking him to bridge the gap between you. His nose brushed your cheekbone every time he surged forward to kiss you—and it sent a mild jolt of pain spidering down his spine, but he didn’t seem to mind it too much, rather preoccupied with other sensations.
Clothes were hastily pulled to the side, sweat beaded both of your foreheads, and strained gasps fell through your lips as he began to move against you.
Neither punching Adrian nor fucking him afterwards were on your agenda for today, but you certainly weren’t complaining. And judging by how loudly he was moaning into the brutal kiss, he wasn’t going to complain, either.
With one final roll of his hips into yours, he bucked forward with a strangled, choking noise as his climax washed over him just when you were pushed off the edge as well, sinking his teeth into the flesh of your shoulder, his eyes rolling into the back of his head.
“God, you’re loud,” you panted, snaking your hands to his hair to gently pull him away from the crevice of your neck.
He stared at you with full-blown pupils, delighting in the fact that you were quivering against him ever so slightly. “And you’re so fucking hot.”
“Alright, buddy, we’re done here,” you said, patting his chest, before pushing away and straightening out your wrinkled clothes. “This is the last time this is ever happening, by the way.”
Adrian scoffed, righting his glasses up his nose. “Uh huh, yeah right. Admit it, you just can’t resist me. I’m like the peanut butter to your jelly! The… the chocolate to your pizza!”
Nose wrinkling, you shook your head incredulously. “What? Who the fuck eats chocolate with pizza?”
“Uh, duh, I do,” he replied, as if it were obvious. “It’s amazing—you should really try it. I don’t know, maybe you could come over to my place one day and have some. Nothing beats the perfect ratio of greasy-crispy Hawaiian pizza and Nutella straight from the jar.”
Kiss-swollen lips parting, you leaned against your desk out of interest once again. Adrian was fidgeting with his hands awkwardly and began looking everywhere but you, like he hadn’t just fucked you silly literally a minute ago.
“Are you asking me out?”
“No!” he said. “Maybe.”
You regarded him with a strange look.
“Ugh, yes, fine, I’m asking you out. Well, technically in—I’m asking you into my house. Preferably into my bed—”
“Alright!” you interrupted, holding your hands out. “Fine. Only this one time. But just because you’ve come in me twice by now doesn’t mean you can go on falling in love with me, okay?”
Brightening, Adrian sidled closer to you, the green of his eyes glimmering beneath the flickering lights hanging over your desk. “Don’t worry, that won’t be a problem. If anything, you should watch out for falling in love with me. I’m quite the catch, you know?”
It was hard to suppress the growing grin forming over your lips. “You’ve got the Barbie Girl song as your ringtone.”
“Yeah, and? It’s a good song—super catchy. It’s practically a chick magnet,” he defended, beaming like an idiot.
You rolled your eyes, patting his chest twice, before striding away from both him and your desk, off to go to the bathroom to clean up the sticky mess between your thighs. Adrian watched you go, before repeatedly punching the air with excitement and breaking out into a dance—not to music, but to the buzz of the office’s artificial lights, and the lethargic whir of the semi-broken air conditioner.
 From outside, he could hear Chris greet you, and he momentarily paused in his little victory jig.
“Oh, hi, Y/N! Hah, your hair’s all messed up, why do you look like you just had your brains fucked—oh. Oh. God damn it, you guys better not have done it on my desk again!”

Blushing
Word Count: 3.2k
Pairing: Adrian Chase x reader
This is a part two to crushing, you can read that here
A/N: Sorry I abandoned this for over a year, bit embarrassing on my behalf but I have some more time now and I want to try and commit to this. Thank you for reading and again if you have any suggestions don’t hesitate to reach out!
Summary: It's your second day back in Evergreen and you find yourself being abruptly awoken by Adrian Chase. Not only that but after spending the morning with him you find yourself bumping into the infamous vigilante in the evening.
Warnings: 18+ but also not really, swearing, sexual tension? Dialogue heavy sry, also like a tiny bit of angst, like so tiny if you squint, you’ll miss it
You wake up to a rhythmic knocking on your motel room door, without opening your eyes you roll over and pick up your phone. Eyes fighting against the bright screen in the dark room. What’s the time? 6am. 6:00am? Who the hell is knocking at your motel room door at 6:00am in the morning.
Then your sleep addled brain catches up, who else would it be?
Slowly… you get up, slowly and waddle over to the door -tap tap tap- lighter wraps against the door this time, more tentative. He’s probably realising that it’s atrociously early in the morning and people are not usually up at this time, or at least, not accepting visitors. Usually.
Normally being awoken this early would piss you right off – it still kind of does if you’re being honest with yourself – but the promise of seeing Adrian makes you giddy, like you’re in high school all over again and that feeling outweighs the anger over any sleep you may have lost.
“Give me a second!” you call out – pants – you think, you need to put on pants. Scrabbling around the room you locate your sweatpants that were discarded last night before bed.
“Okely dokely” he replies through the door.
Dork, you think to yourself, you resent that your heart pulls with fondness, too much depth to your feelings and not enough time to unpack them. Your time here is limited.
Pulling up your pants you walk over to the door and open it, Adrian cracks a goofy smile at you as he takes in all your morning glory. You’re all messy hair and dishevelled clothing. A blush breaks out across your face and down your neck against your will, his eyes on your skin only makes your blush deepen.
“You’re cute when you blush, petal.”
He’s still smiling at you, not maliciously but there is a playful sparkle in his eyes.
“Get in here” you mumble turning around quickly, you don’t want him to see the blush on your cheeks turn from pink to bright red.
Turning around you ask him, “may I inquire as to why you’re visiting my motel room at this ungodly hour?”
He kicks the door closed behind him, he looks a bit sheepish at your question, like he’s not entirely sure himself.
“Well… we agreed to see each other today –”
“– not this early” you cock your head at him,
“See that’s what I had trouble with though, cause we never specified on a time and I don’t have your number because I’m pretty sure you changed it and I didn’t get time to ask for it yesterday and when I remembered you were gone but I did remember you telling me where you were staying and I really wanted to see you today and I didn’t know when to show up but I thought maybe I was thinking too hard about it –”
“– Okay, Adrian you need to take a breath.”
He sucks in a deep breath and lets it go.
“Better?” you ask.
“Better” he nods his head “I did bring you coffee though, I’m not a complete psycho.”
You thank the lord because you notice he is holding a coffee cup for you, a reusable one at that.
“Where did you get this?”
“I made it at home, I wasn’t sure where to get coffee this early… is it okay?”
You take a sip, “It’s perfect” you smile at him.
He managed to make it just how you like it.
“I remember, how you take your coffee.”
“I remember you used to suck at making coffee.”
You find it endearing and surprising that he still remembers how you like your coffee, you’re not sure if that’s because it’s been a while or because you perceive yourself as easily forgettable but it’s nice to be proven wrong about the impact you have on others.
You come back from your thoughts to see Adrian’s hand waving in front of your face and calling your name, “woohoo, you still there?”.
“Sorry, got lost in thought.”
“Thinking about?” he pries.
“Thinking about how it’s nice to be remembered.”
“Who could ever forget you?” he says this in a way that shows he’s genuinely asking; he’s genuinely puzzled by the idea that anyone could ever forget you and that has your heart pulling in your chest again.
The blush starts creeping up to your face again and your eyes burn a bit, like if you kept thinking too hard you would cry. You blink your eyes to reset them and give him a big smile – a genuine smile.
“You always make me feel special, A. I’ve missed you.”
Adrian is a bit taken aback by that, like he wasn’t expecting the vibrance of your smile or the honesty of your words.
“I’ve missed you too, petal. I really wish you stayed but I understand why you left.”
“Doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt though, hey?”
“It hurt but it must’ve hurt you a lot more, I mean you’re the one who left.”
He’s right, it hurt too much to stay. Hurt too much to be reminded of your brother in every crevice of this town but it hurt in Gotham too, not having anyone, not actually being seen. That’s not to say it wasn’t good there though, the crime sucked but ironically it made the pain about your brother less painful, seeing suffering everywhere but also seeing the hope people had. It was nice, good character building if anything.
“I have regrets about leaving and how I left but I don’t regret leaving, does that make sense?”
He considers your words for a second, “It does, and it doesn’t, but I guess that’s just the wonder of emotions, good thing I don’t have them like normal people, seems exhausting.”
“It is exhausting.”
You shake your head at him, you know he’s different from other people, but you also know he does feel things and when he does. He feels them intensely. You think it’s probably best to just change the subject.
“I think I should get dressed for the day and we can find somewhere to have breakfast together? Catch up?”
“Sounds good to me.” He nods.
“…Alright.”
A beat, then two, then three, if you stand here staring at him, he’s just going to keep standing there staring back at you. You’d change in the bathroom but it’s small. So, you decide to break the silence.
“A?”
“What’s up?”
“I need to get changed.”
He’s still staring at you, nodding his head “I know.”
“Could you maybe… wait outside for me? The bathroom is small.”
A couple more beats and then it clicks for him “right! Sorry, I wasn’t trying to perv on you or anything!”
“I know, A, it’s okay,” you think for a second, it’s the middle of winter and it’s six in the morning, in other words, it’s cold, very cold “Uhm, actually, it’s cold outside and I have the heat on in here. I mean to say, it’s warm in here and if you maybe just turn around for a bit I can quickly change.”
You feel like a dickhead, but you also don’t think you’re being weird, actually, are you being weird. Are you over thinking this, like how Adrian over thought his visit here and ended up coming over insanely early in the morning.
“okely dokely.” He winks at you and spins around, hands covering his eyes.
He’s so goofy, You think to yourself, but you also trust he won’t perv on you, like he said.
You walk over to your suitcase and pick out some clean clothes, you turn around and keep your back to Adrian’s, quickly changing into the fresh clothes.
“Okay, I’m decent.”
Adrian spins back around, dazzling smile and all “you look great!”
“You’re being dramatic,” You playfully roll your eyes at him. You’re wearing a shirt and pants “I’ve gotta brush my teeth and hair, I’ll be ready in 5.”
He gives an approving sound as you walk into the bathroom.
You both wandered around the streets near the motel and ended up at a local café. You chatted about mundane things, reminiscing on old times, fond memories of your brother.
“Do you remember the time you both got chased by a stray dog for like, 4 blocks or something?” you asked Adrian.
“Remember? How could I forget? We ended up running all the way back to your house, I still have a scar on my leg from a stray wire on the fence.”
“I do remember that scar! I ended up having to clean it for you and I also remember that you’re the most dramatic patient I have ever had.”
“Hey! It really hurt!” he sulks.
You give him a faux pitying look, pouting at him you say, “I know it did.”
To be fair, it was pretty gnarly, you had to be very careful when cleaning it but if memory serves right, you were shaking more than he was.
“Your brother and I were just trying to feed the local strays when that one got aggressive and ran at us, scared the shit out of us honestly.”
You laugh at that, of course that’s what they were doing, your brother had a soft spot for strays. He was always begging you to let him bring them home.
“I miss him a lot,” you say “it feels good to be able to talk to someone about him, someone who knew him.”
“I miss him a lot too, I try to visit his grave as often as I can.”
“I saw the flowers you left there; they looked like they had been pulled out of someone’s garden.” You smile knowingly at him.
He rubs the back of his neck awkwardly, “I kind of… maybe… took them from some persons garden on my walk over. I forgot to buy some.”
You chuckle at him and his antics, you had suspected as much when you visited the grave yesterday.
“It’s nice that you took some, it was comforting to see that you were visiting him. I’ve been feeling guilty about it... not seeing him.”
“You know that he would understand though.”
“I know but I still feel bad.”
This conversation has taken a dark turn, you don’t want your visit back to Evergreen to be haunting. You came back to check on Adrian and his safety, not mope around and feel sorry for yourself.
Adrian looks like he’s about to say something more, but you cut him off, “Actually, how have you been? I heard Evergreen has its very own vigilante of sorts.”
“I’ve been good! I haven’t even run into him – or her! Could be a woman, definitely could be a woman!”
He is being so weird about this topic; you thought it was just his propensity for being a little odd but now you’re starting to get suspicious. Of what you aren’t entirely sure but there’s something going on here.
“…okayyy, well I’m glad you’ve been safe and haven’t run into them.”
You think it’s best to not rock the boat and push him too far on this, seeing him and catching up is really your only goal while back in town.
“Yeah, hah – uhm, how long are you planning on staying in town for?”
“For as long as I can afford it honestly, I didn’t have much of a plan coming back here but when money is out, I’ll be going back to Gotham.”
He frowns, “What’s waiting for you in Gotham? I mean, why go back?”
“I’m a fresh veterinary graduate and there’s a job that’s been promised to me.”
He’s pouting now, he’s being subtle about it but, yep, he’s definitely pouting. Cute.
He gets a serious look on his face, “You know, you could always stay with me, if you want more time to consider your options.”
His offer makes your heart flutter again, the effect he has on you is criminal and as much as you would love to accept his offer, getting too involved before you know exactly what you’re doing with yourself could end up hurting you both.
“That’s really nice of you A, but I don’t know if that’s a great idea, I’m feeling a little lost at the moment and we haven’t seen each other in years. I could be crazy now.”
You’re not sure if you’re trying to convince him or yourself that staying with him is a bad idea. Although you wouldn’t burn through cash as quickly if you stayed with him.
“Come on! We both know you’ve always been crazy.” He cracks a smile and you do too.
“I’ll think about it A, but seriously, no promises.” You mean it too; you seriously will consider his offer.
He nods his head excitedly, “Of course, just think about it, no pressure or anything!”
You smile politely back at him, you feel awkward and comfortable at the same time, Adrian was right, human nature is weird.
You both finish up breakfast and head back out the café for the walk back to the motel.
“Thanks for breakfast, A.”
Adrian insisted on paying even after you insisted he didn’t but he told you he was paying you back for showing up at your motel room before dawn barely cracked.
“You’re more than welcome, I’d buy you breakfast for the rest of your life if you asked me to.”
You chuckle a bit but that damned blush he pulls from under your skin comes back, stupid crush you think. You decide to be cheeky in return.
“Alright, this is me asking you to buy me breakfast for the rest of my life.”
“Okey dokey.” He smiles bright at you, no complaints on his end.
“I was joking Adrian; you do not have to buy my breakfast for the rest of my life.”
“Oh, alright… I would have though, just so you know.”
“I believe you” and you do.
You both walk in a comfortable silence the rest of the way back to the motel. When you arrive back at your door he says, “I’m glad we got to catch up today and I’d like to maybe get a couple of drinks together tomorrow night?”
He pauses, “Wait you can legally drink right?”
You smack him on the arm lightly, “Of course I can legally drink, I’m not a child!”
He grins at you, a sign that he knows and was just trying to get under your skin.
“I know, I just wanted to make you blush again.”
Fucker.
It works, you’re blushing again, curse this man. Before you can open your mouth, he opens his again, “I think I’ve already said this but you’re cute when you blush.”
“You have already said that today.”
“I have a feeling I’m going to keep saying it.”
“And I’m going to keep cursing you inside my head every time you do.”
“Worth it.”
Again, fucker.
He looks at you, classic goofy smile on his face, “I have to go but I’ll see you tomorrow night?”
You feel the urge to hug him goodbye, “I will see you tomorrow night,”
You step forward and hug him goodbye, he reciprocates and wraps his arms around you. He leans down and whispers in your ear, “Have a good day, petal.”
An involuntary shiver runs down your back at his breath in your ear, pulling back you both say your final goodbyes and part ways.
You’re blushing something fierce.
You fill the middle half of your day by visiting your brothers grave and cleaning it before leaving some fresh flowers at the grave, you sit there for a while talking to him but mostly thinking about life. Thinking about your morning and Adrian, thinking about your morning with Adrian and you find yourself seriously considering staying with him. Something you think you should tackle at a later date.
The rest of your day is spent in your motel room looking at job listings in Evergreen, you’re not convinced you’ll stay, it’s more like morbid curiosity but scrolling the job listings has your eyes drooping and you end up dozing off.
When you wake up it’s late evening, you slept through the whole afternoon and most of the evening. Well, shit, that’s a waste of an afternoon but you’re choosing to blame Adrian for waking you up too early.
Your stomach is yelling at you, so you decide to venture outside the motel room to find a place to get some takeaway. Walking the streets of Evergreen at night has always made you uneasy but even more so now, with that masked maniac running around things feel a bit scarier.
It’s not like you’re a stranger to masked vigilantes running around the city you live in, but you’ve always been sure of their motives. This person makes you feel unsure of your safety and you’re not sure what would happen to you if you were to run into them.
Which is why bumping into them on your way back to your motel room makes you freeze with uncertainty.
Thud
The sound of the bag of food you were holding hitting the pavement, yeah, the bumping into them wasn’t a metaphor. You somehow find yourself literally colliding with the aforementioned vigilante.
It’s your fault really, you weren’t looking where you were going, too busy looking at your phone to notice the figure in front of you.
That uncertainty from earlier washes over you, should you run? Are you going to have to fight? Will they ignore you?
“What the fuck?”
The voice of a man, Adrian was wrong, you can tell now that you’re up close to him, he’s definitely a man – a well-toned one at that – he turns around to face you. Your eyes are wide, trying to process what is happening in front of you.
“Ah, I – uhm, I’m really sorry! I didn’t see you there.” You manage to spit out, you fumble a bit. You’re trying to be strong without seeming impolite but it’s just coming across as scared. Which you definitely are.
“Oh!” he says before he drops the pitch of his voice, “Oh, that’s okay, it’s the mostly black thing, trying to blend into the night.”
“Right! Uhm, well it’s working,” you give an awkward thumbs up and a crooked smile.
He holds both his hands up in a placating manner, “I’m not going to hurt you, I only hurt criminals.”
Kill, he means he only kills criminals.
He’s trying to calm you down; you can see that. You genuinely don’t feel any malice coming from him but you’re still a little uneasy, you can’t help it.
He bends down to pick up your bag of food and hands it to you, “late night snack?”
“I… slept late and only just woke up, I mean, I haven’t eaten since breakfast.”
“You know, it’s really not safe around here this late at night.”
“I know – but I was hungry.”
He pauses for a second and cocks his head to the side, “Would it be okay if I walked you home?”
You ponder it for a moment, you feel like the responsible thing to say is no.
“You’re not going to kill me?”
He shakes his head, “never.”
For some reason, you trust him and say, “okay.”
Dun dun dun, to be continued.
As you can tell, the formatting of this series has changed, I almost feel compelled to go back and change the last chapters formatting but I am lazy and feel like it should stay how it is. Humble beginnings and all (nvm, I went back and changed it haha). Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed and continue to follow along, I'll try to update more consistently if people keep reading :)

Chapter text:
The muscles in your forearms ache as you drag your hand cart, stacked with cases of soda and water, up the ramp at the back of Fennel Fields.
You wheel your final delivery of the day straight into their break room, as usual, and park your cart beside the vending machine, ready to start your restock. You’re greeted amicably by the staff, who know you well enough that they’re not surprised to see you.
But one particularly familiar face spots you from across the room and practically leaps off his chair. Adrian Chase looks forward to your weekly trip to Fennel Fields, and today he can’t help but notice the glow on your face from hauling your delivery. He wonders what else makes your face glow like that. He bets he could.
“Hey, stranger,” you say, and he blinks at you as if snapping out of something.
“Stranger? It’s me, Adrian.”
You grin. You can’t tell if he’s joking or not but either way, you find it sort of cute. And, yes, Taylor warned you to stop flirting with the hot but kind of dorky busboy because he’s gonna end up catching feelings, but there’s something fun about getting him all flustered and making his cheeks burn.
“I know, Adrian. I could never forget that pretty face,” you tease. He turns slightly pink. There it is. “Thirsty?” you ask.
“Yup, and wait til you see what I got you.”
This has been your routine at Fennel Fields for a few months now. You pick up some speciality soda while you’re delivering beverages across Washington and Adrian brings you something- usually a snack or anything else he thinks you might like.
“Three… two… one.” At the same time, you pull the soda out from your bag and Adrian hands you a small, blue rectangular box.
A cassette tape. Aqua- Aquarium.
“Adrian! This is so sick- it’s so hard to find tapes these days.” You flip it over to read the tracklist. “I fucking love Barbie Girl.”
“Me too! And I noticed your Walkman, so I thought you could use some more music.” He looks down at the orange and blue soda can in his hands, reading the label. “IRN BRU?”
“This is the weirdest soda I’ve found yet. It’s like bubblegum cream soda but it burns.”
He cracks it open, takes a sip and looks confused. “I think I like it?” He takes another sip. “It’s like my mouth hates it but needs more.”
“I know, right?” You put the cassette in your bag and open the vending machine.
“Thanks for the soda.” He nods at your tired arms as you start loading in your delivery. “Sick forearm pump, by the way.”
“Uh, what?”
“Yeah! You can totally tell you’ve been working on them- they’re huge.”
You raise an eyebrow. It’s probably meant as a compliment, but you’re not sure how you feel about Adrian talking to you like you’re one of his bros at the gym.
“I mean- not huge! Like normal. But nice. And-“
“Have you seen Taylor?” You decide to step in before he can dig this particular hole any deeper. “I need him to sign for this.”
“What’s up, Cuz?” Taylor appears from around a corner.
You hold out your electronic POS and stylus, awaiting his signature. “Just need you to sign this, then I’m done for the night.”
“Nice!” says Adrian “You got any plans after this?”
“Depends on who’s asking,” you tease him, a small balloon swells up in your chest with excitement. You’ve never been sure whether Adrian’s always so excited to see you because he likes you or if he just really likes soda.
“Uh, me,  Adrian. Remember?”
“Hey man, what did I tell you about hitting on my cousin?” Taylor gives him a stern look. “Don’t you have a pregnant girlfriend to be worried about?”
You’re surprised, to say the least. The fact that Adrian has a girlfriend (a pregnant one at that) but he still goes out of his way to exchange gifts with you every week is kind of disappointing. It reaffirms your belief that there are no decent men in this town.
“Yes! I mean, no. We, uh, we broke up.”
“Because of the party you tried to throw her?” asks Taylor.
Aw, that’s kind of sweet.
“Uh, yeah, she did not appreciate the abortion party.”
What the fuck?
Taylor signs for the delivery and hands you back the device, giving you a meaningful look- I told you so. The balloon of excitement in your chest feels well and truly punctured.
“But I mean, I’m not hung up on her or anything. I actually dumped her.”
Yup, no decent men alright.
You and Taylor exchange glances. You can practically hear the wet raspberry of the balloon deflating completely.
“I’d better go. Thanks for the tape, dude,” you say a little more coolly than you’d intended in your hurry to hide your dismay before wheeling your cart out of the break room.
“Hey, let me help you with that,” Adrian’s voice calls from behind you, but Taylor grabs the door before he can.
“I got it, man.”
Taylor walks with you to the van. You lean up against the cab door in exasperation. Taylor offers you a cigarette which you go to accept, but he retracts the packet.
“Nuh-uh, let’s hear it first.”
“Fine,” you sigh. “You are so full of wisdom, as always, and I will forever heed your dating advice from now until the end of time,” you concede to Taylor, snatching a cigarette. He grins and lights you both up.
“Y’know what the weird thing is? I don’t think he ever had a girlfriend.”
You exhale a puff of smoke in surprise. “What was that about then?”
“I dunno. I caught him out here celebrating one night, and he made up a weird abortion party story. I think he was really out here dancing because Peacemaker came into the restaurant-“
“Peacemaker?! Jeez, isn’t that guy in jail?”
“Musta released him. But I think Adrian was being an excited fanboy and got embarrassed when I saw him. Dude’s a serial liar- I thought he’d come clean if I asked him about it in front of you.”
You lean your head back against the van. “Where are all the decent men in Evergreen?” You lament and start rhyming off, counting on your fingers. “They’re either obsessed with capes, racists, racist capes or racists who are obsessed with capes!”
“Well, speaking of capes, it’s getting dark. You better hit the road before you run into that nutcase, Vigilante.”
“Yeah, or the escaped gorilla,” you laugh, stubbing out your cigarette.
“Put that in the trash or you’ll end up with a bullet in your head for littering.”
“I’ve charmed my way out of worse situations. Besides, maybe he’ll be the one to sweep me off my feet.”
“Vigilante? Or the gorilla?”
“Honestly, at this point, I’d take either.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following afternoon, your delivery route sends you off down the highway. It’s not a glamorous job, stocking vending machines at different businesses all over the place, but it’s easy, and you can listen to your own music. It takes you all across this little corner of Washington, and the more you see, the more grateful you are that you get to live in this beautiful, rocky state.
Even if there isn’t a single eligible man to be found on your entire route. You still feel a little crestfallen thinking about Adrian Chase. Why was he so intent on lying to Taylor yesterday? How deep does his Peacemaker obsession go if he was that embarrassed?
You pull up to the back of the Glan Tai bottling plant on the outskirts of Evergreen, put on your headphones and turn on your Walkman. You want to keep a low profile because the clients are much weirder here than the rest- Adrian Chase excluded.
They weren’t always like this. The facilities manager at Glan Tai was a friendly old man - Clive- who let you use their bathroom, and gave you filter coffee from a polystyrene cup to ease your two-hour journey home. Until one day recently, Clive wasn’t so friendly anymore. New management, you expected.
Head down, you drag your cart through the service entrance and make your way to their storage room. Aqua blasts in your ears as you wheel your way along the corridor. There are loud bangs and the ground vibrates slightly, but it’s nothing out of the ordinary in a site with heavy machinery.
You get to the room where they keep the IT equipment, files and vending machine and start unloading. You feel a heavy hand on your shoulder and pull your headphones down around your neck.
“Oh, sorry Clive, I didn’t see you-“
You freeze, icy fear spreading through your veins as you find yourself face to face with - you’ve gotta be fucking kidding me - the escaped gorilla from the zoo.
You scream. Loudly.
Two people burst into the room, startling the gorilla. It backs away from you. For a second, you think they’re factory workers running to your rescue. But they slam and bolt the storage room door shut behind them.
“No! Unlock the door!”
They whip around and point their guns at you. You drop the case of water you’re holding and hold your hands up in surrender.
One of them, you recognise from the news. A man in a black and teal suit, armed to the hilt, with his face almost entirely obscured- except by a red visor covering his eyes.
It’s him. It’s Vigilante. And a blonde woman you don’t recognise.
He lowers his gun and nudges hers away from your direction.
“Shoot her before she kills us both!” snaps the woman, irritated.
“She’s not a butterfly,” says Vigilante, his voice muffled behind his mask. “I know her.”
He knows me? How?
“I’m just delivering water, I swear!” You beg her, looking between them.
Just then, the gorilla appears from behind the shelves and launches the blonde woman across the room.
An involuntary yelp of shock escapes you again and the gorilla returns its attention to you. Thinking fast, you tip your cart forward, and the giant ape trips up on the cascade of cans and bottles.
“You didn’t think to tell us there was a gorilla in here?!” Comes the annoyed blonde woman’s voice from behind a broken table.
“I was preoccupied with the guns in my face!”
The door to the storage room is blasted open and another woman bursts in, followed by none other than Peacemaker.
Adrian would lose his shit right now, you think to yourself.
Peacemaker looks at you through the eyeholes of his helmet “She’s clear, Adebayo” and the other woman lowers her gun. The gorilla gets up. “Oh shit!” says Peacemaker as it sends a swipe in your direction, sending you tumbling off your feet and onto the floor.
You cower in the corner as they fight the gorilla. Vigilante stabs it but it bats him away easily and does the same to the woman called Adebayo. Peacemaker launches himself onto the gorilla’s back but the beast throws him off onto the hard floor.
“Die, human!”
Did that gorilla just speak? What have you gotten yourself into?
The gorilla raises its fists, ready to crush Peacemaker, when a man with an oddly patchy beard runs through the door, chainsaw in hand and proceeds to kill the gorilla, sawing it almost in half and sending blood splattering everywhere.
A small winged creature crawls out of the dead gorilla’s mouth. The blonde woman gets to her feet and shoots it casually. What the…? Was that some kind of parasite?
The gunshot leaves your ears ringing but hearing your name whispered in your ear brings you back to reality. You blink stupidly at Vigilante, who is now crouched down inches from your face and you try to make out his eyes through the red visor. You know those eyes. But how? How does the mass murderer of Evergreen know you?
He hooks his arms under yours, lifts you to your feet and wipes the smattering of blood off your face. Your heart is racing as you continue to stare at him silently, dumbfounded. You know you should be scared of this masked man, who’s wanted on multiple counts of murder. But here he is, claiming he knows you, making sure you’re okay.
“What do we do with her?” asks the bearded man with the chainsaw.
“Who, me?” you try and sound nonchalant. “I didn’t see anything. I’ll just get out of your beard- hair! I mean hair.” You go to put your headphones back over your ears but the blonde woman rips them off.
“Hey!” Vigilante steps between you and her. “Look, she’s cool. She says she didn’t see anything, so she didn’t”
“How do you know she’s not a butterfly?” she challenges Vigilante.
“X-ray helmet,” interjects Peacemaker. “No butterfly in that pretty little noggin.” He winks at you and Vigilante bristles, folding his arms in an irritated sort of way.
“Listen, I’ve got like four more deliveries today so…” You trail off as your body starts to go on autopilot. There’s an awkward silence as they watch you bustle around, stacking the blood-covered cases of water and soda back onto your cart.
“She’s clearly in shock,” says Adebayo, more gently than the blonde.
“Hey, let me help you with that,” says a muffled voice from behind you.
‘Hey, let me help you with that.’
In the exact same cadence as yesterday.
“A-Adrian?” you say hoarsely and you turn back around in time to watch Vigilante drop the case of water. “Adrian Chase?!” you repeat, your voice slightly hysterical.
“No!” says Adrian unconvincingly but at the same time Peacemaker says:
“Godammit Vij. How does she know you?”
Adrian groans in frustration. “She delivers drinks to my job too!”
“That settles it- she’s a witness and she knows Vigilante’s identity. Adebayo, you need to end this. Don’t make her beg for her life like the other guy,” commands the blonde woman, clearly in charge of the team.
“Nonononononono,” Adrian stands in front of you with his arms folded. “No way. I am not letting you kill her.”
“That’s an order, Adebayo. Vigilante- move.”
“Wait,” says the guy with the beard. “She might actually be useful, Harcourt.”
Harcourt raises her eyebrows. “Well?”
“We’re looking for other leads, right? Other places where the butterflies are?” He looks at you. “Hey, water girl. Does this company have any other locations?”
“Y-yes,” your throat feels dry.
“Can you tell us where they are?” he asks.
“Will you let me live if I tell you?”
Everyone looks at Harcourt. She groans. “Fine. But we’re gonna need to figure out what to do with her to keep her from blabbering.”
“C’mon, she already said she was cool!” says Adrian.
“And you trust her?”
“One hundo percent.” He gives you a reassuring thumbs up.
“I wouldn’t trust his judgement,” says Peacemaker and you immediately feel faint. It must be obvious on your face because he backtracks. “No! Not that we should kill her! Definitely not. But Adrian would trust any hot girl. We can’t just let her go.”
Harcourt pinches the bridge of her nose as she thinks.
“Vigilante,” she says finally. “I’m telling Murn that water girl is your responsibility. You’re going to keep her with you 24/7 until the mission is over. Any fuck-up, if she does or says anything that jeopardizes our objective, she’s dead and you’ll be doing black ops in Belize. Got it?”
“Cool, got it!” says Adrian enthusiastically, as if that isn’t the most horrifying thing he’s ever heard.
“Wait, don’t I get a say in this? I have a job! I have people who will be looking for me.”
“Do you want to cooperate or do you want to die?”
“Which one do you wanna do?” asks Adrian.
If you hadn’t already figured out that Vigilante was Adrian Chase, that would have been the dead giveaway.
A few moments later, Adrian is leading you by the hand back through the factory to where your van is parked while you cover your eyes with one hand. He had suggested it after your knees almost gave way when you saw the pile of bodies at the door. And he liked that you had rejected Peacemaker’s offer to hoist you over his shoulder and carry you out.
“Oh, no… Clive,” you whisper, making the mistake of opening your eyes and seeing the old man crumpled on the floor, next to the coffee machine. You cover your eyes again.
“Watch you don’t slip in the blood here,” says Adrian gently, guiding you to side-step.
You groan. You think you might puke.
“I can’t believe you killed all these people,” you whisper, wishing you could disassociate from this whole thing.
“We didn’t, not really- I promise. I’ll explain on the ride home.”
Harcourt instructs Adrian to drive your van, following theirs back to Evergreen. When you’re both out of earshot and in your van, Adebayo sits in the driver’s seat turning to Harcourt, Peacemaker and Economos. “Isn’t it kind of weird seeing Vigilante like this?”
“Like what?” asks Economos.
“Like, compassionate, sweet… not all hell-bent on murder?”
Peacemaker shrugs “He’s like this all the time. You should hear the way he talks about this other girl, his friend Taylor’s sister, or cousin, I think. He’s just a sucker for anyone who’s nice to him.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hours later, you’re sitting on the couch in your apartment, waiting for Adrian to finish up in the shower.
On the drive to their headquarters, Adrian had explained all about their mission and how an alien race called ‘the butterflies’ had taken over the bodies of (and, therefore, killed) all those people in the factory long before Adrian’s team had arrived.
At headquarters, you had told them everything you knew about your clients at Glan Tai and had given them the coordinates for their other delivery location- a small farm thirty miles north of the factory. Murn seemed to be satisfied with your intel and approved of Harcourt’s plan to have Adrian keep you under close surveillance. Great.
Adrian grabbed his go-bag from his Sebring and drove the two of you in your van back to your apartment, where you immediately ran to the shower, to try and rid yourself of all the negative feelings from today.
He now appears in your living room, fresh out of the shower in a pale blue t-shirt and jeans, looking much less out of place than when he was in his full combat gear. But he still stands awkwardly, not sure what to do with himself.
“Thirsty?” you ask him. “I’ve got wine.”
“I shouldn’t. I’m supposed to be keeping an eye on you.”
You find two wine glasses and place them on the coffee table. He sits on the edge of your couch. “What am I gonna do, Adrian?” You open up a bottle of red wine and start pouring. “I could barely stand seeing all that shit at the factory. Do you really think I’m gonna kill you?” You slide a glass towards him and start filling your own.
He looks down at the wine but doesn’t touch it. You raise your glass. “To forgetting the worst day of my life.”
“The worst day of your life? Today was awesome!” He looks genuinely surprised that you’re not sharing his elation. “We killed a ton of butterflies, and now thanks to you, we know where they keep their cow.”
It’s a sentence that wouldn’t have made sense to you a few hours ago. And you hate that it does now.
“We’re saving the world,” he continues. “And you helped!”
You push his wine glass closer to him. “To saving the world, then.”
He takes a sip and screws up his face. “Do you have any beer? Ooh, or soda!”
“It’s in the van. And most of it’s covered in blood now.”
“Then this is great,” he says, a little too politely.
“If you’re not used to it, the first glass tastes like acetone,” you tell him, draining yours. “But the second one…” You pause, pouring yourself another. “The second goes down real smooth.”
Adrian copies you and gulps down the red wine. You refill his glass, and he takes another sip.
“The second one isn’t so bad, actually.” He sounds surprised.
You sink down on the couch next to him. “So now what?” you ask. He looks confused, so you elaborate. “What do you usually do with hostages all night?”
“You’re not a hostage!” He looks offended. “I’m more like your bodyguard.”
“Oh yeah? Who are you guarding me from? Your friends?”
He looks up over his glasses in thought. “Well, just Harcourt. And Murn. But it’s mostly to keep you safe from the butterflies.”
You take another drink of wine. Studying his face, you think he’s telling the truth. He really doesn’t consider you to be his hostage. As you look him over, you realise you’ve never noticed how curly his hair is before- he’s normally wearing that dorky little Fennel Fields hat.
You’ve always thought he was cute in a wholesome kind of way but now that he’s out of his work uniform, you can appreciate that he’s, like, ridiculously, conventionally handsome. You wonder if he knows it. You wonder a lot of things about Adrian, especially now that, come to think of it, everything you know about him is probably a lie to keep his secret identity hidden.
“Truth or dare?” you blurt.
“What?”
“Go on.” You gesture towards him with your glass. “We’ve got a long night. I want to find out more about you. Adrian. Vigilante.”
He looks excited. Maybe it’s the prospect of playing a game, or maybe he’s just happy someone wants to know more about him. Both sides of him.
“Truth then.”
“Does your pregnant ex-girlfriend exist?”
He groans and leans his head back on the couch, staring at the ceiling. “No. I was just trying to cover how stoked I was that Peacemaker was out of jail.”
You laugh, but your eyes linger on his exposed neck and the way his Adam’s apple moves when he talks.
He turns his head to look over at you through his wire-rimmed glasses. “I don’t think Taylor likes me.”
“Taylor likes you just fine,” you lie, sipping your wine.
“Truth or dare?” asks Adrian.
“Truth.”
“Has Taylor ever told you that you shouldn’t date me?”
“Ugh, fine. Yes. He told me not to give you my number.”
“Why?!”
“If you want to ask a follow-up question, then you need to take a drink. That’s the rule.” He does so- quickly. “Okay, fine. He says he doesn’t trust you because you’re always lying about things, and it kind of annoys everyone because you’re a bad liar.”
“Everyone?! I thought we were talking about Taylor?”
“If you want to be liked and have a secret identity, you need to be a better liar.”
“Okay, that’s fair,” admits Adrian, twisting the stem of the glass between his fingers. “Your turn, truth or dare?”
“Dare.”
He thinks for a couple of beats. “I dare you to finish your drink.”
“Are you trying to get me drunk?”
“It was the only dare I could think of that wasn’t a sexy dare.”
The newly formed idea of Adrian asking you to do something sexy for him makes you pause. Warmth pools deep in your tummy as watches you, waiting. God, why does red wine always make you feel so slutty? You raise your eyebrows over the rim of your glass, and you drain the rest of the liquid. “Why don’t you want to give me a sexy dare?” you ask, setting your glass down.
“I dunno, don’t you think there’s kind of a power imbalance?”
“That’s true. You are my bodyguard after all.” You nod contemplatively. “And I guess it would be awkward since you need to stay here for a few more days.”
“Oh, I meant-” Adrian cuts himself off. What he really meant would sound incredibly childish now.
You get up from the couch to retrieve another bottle of wine from the breakfast bar that separates your kitchen from your living room. “Go on, what did you mean?”
“No, I meant what you said.”
No, he didn’t. What he meant is that you have all the power because he has such a huge crush on you. And the way the wine is going to his head, he’s not sure he trusts himself to give you a dare without it having an ulterior motive. Adrian watches as you twist the corkscrew into the bottle with precision. Your chest jiggles in your tank top with the recoil of your arm extracting the cork, and it makes Adrian blush bright red. He discreetly adjusts himself in his jeans.
You bring the new bottle of wine over to the couch and sit down cross-legged, your back leaning against the armrest so you can get a better look at him without constantly straining. Fuck, he’s gorgeous like this, you think, as he gets comfortable, changing position so he can look at you too. In the soft light of your living room, you can make out that his cheeks are pink again. “Does wine usually make you flush like that?” you ask.
“Uh, I wouldn’t know. Can wine do that?”
“To some people, yeah. For me, it just makes me feel kinda sexy.” You clap your hand to your mouth, watching Adrian’s eyes widen. “Ugh! Sorry, I wouldn’t have said that if I hadn’t had two glasses already.” You scoff and shake your head. “Truth or dare?”
“Truth.”
The wine is making you feel bolder. “Have you had sex in your Vigilante costume?”
“Today?”
You almost choke on your newly poured drink with laughter.
“Okay, that answers that question. In which case, I have a follow-up,” You take a sip, pointedly. “What’s Vigilante’s favourite sex position?”
“Oh, uh…” Adrian thinks back to when he last had sex as Vigilante, with Amber and Peacemaker a few days ago. “Any, I guess.”
“Any? C’mon, you picked truth!”
“It is the truth! I don’t take my mask off, or my suit if I don’t have to. So it always feels the same. Fun, I guess, but sorta uncomfortable. Funcomfortable.”
You smile and rest your head on your hand, elbow leaning on the back of the couch. “What about Adrian?”
“Is that another follow-up question?”
You acquiesce and take another drink but before you can even swallow he says “Missionary.”
“Boring,” you tease but he doesn’t seem fazed.
“It’s not. Not when you really like someone anyway. Missionary is fucking great - when you can kiss them, hold their hand, stare into their eyes…” He pauses, his green eyes burning into yours. “Boring is not being able to even taste someone because of my mask.”
You realise you’ve been holding your breath. You look away and exhale slowly, trying to steady the growing arousal burning hot, deep in your pelvic floor.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I-” When you raise your head again, he’s still looking at you intently. “I just realised I haven’t been fucked like that in a really long time.”
He shakes his head. “Yeah right! I bet you go on tons of dates.”
“I do,” you admit with a tilt of your head. “But did you know that like 90% of women don’t orgasm on a one-night stand?”
Adrian’s eyebrows knit together “That doesn’t sound right. Women always cum when I-”
“That’s what all men say, Adrian. But honestly, I don’t think a man has made me cum in, like, the entire time I’ve been single.”
“I could,” he says, matter-of-factly. It’s not a boast, it’s a simple statement.
Honestly, you're not sure if it’s the alcohol or the vivid image you have of Adrian making you clutch at your bedsheets and moan his name, but something’s making the blood rush to your face and other parts of your body that you’re still desperately trying not to think about.
“I’ll do it right now if you want?”
He’s asking if he can try to make you cum as casually as if asking if he can help you restock the vending machine. It’s bolder than you’d expected from the shy busboy. Then again, you’d never expected him to be Vigilante either… maybe you should review all the preconceptions you have of him.
Your abdomen clenches. Fuck, you can feel how hot and sticky your underwear is as he blinks at you behind his glasses, waiting for your response.
You look at his face hungrily, eyes lingering on his lips, now stained with red wine. “Adrian, listen. I’m sure you’re very good, blah blah blah. But I just… I don’t want to set you up for disappointment. It’s kind of hard to make me cum.”
“Let me give it a shot. And if I can make you cum, you let me take you on a date.”
You stare at him, feeling your chest pounding as you contemplate his offer. There’s something about his voice that’s so sincere and so fucking desperate for you, your brain can’t think of a reason not to say yes.
“Truth or dare?” he asks, breaking the silence.
“Truth.”
“Do you want me to go down on you? I’m really good at it.”
Yes! You want to scream- already stupidly soaking fucking wet at the mere idea of it.
Instead, you squeeze your eyes shut and nod. “I can’t believe we’re doing this.”
“Yeah?” His tone makes you think that he wasn’t really expecting you to say yes.
“Yes, Adrian.” You laugh in disbelief. “If you make me cum, you can take me on a date.” He grins and you shift inelegantly, not sure how to proceed. “So… how do you wanna-”
Adrian pounces on you before you can ask the question, his red-stained lips crashing against yours. You kiss him back- hard. You’re thirsty for him, you realise, as you taste the alcohol mixed with the slightly metallic taste of his saliva. You want to drain him, drown in him.
He groans when you grab the nape of his neck and suck on his bottom lip. He can’t believe that you’re kissing him like this- like it’s you who’s been pining after him and not the other way around.
You pause, lips barely touching his. “Fuck, I’ve wanted to kiss you like this for so long,” you whisper.
“You- you have?”
“Adrian, I spend half my week trying to find you new kinds of speciality soda just so I have an excuse to talk to you.”
“Oh.” Realisation dawns on him. All this time he just thought you were really, really into soda.
Adrian gives you one last deep kiss and pulls away. He gets on his knees on the floor, and the sight of him there, with his hands on your hips and his body between your legs, makes your cunt clench. You bite your lips in anticipation.
His fingertips hook the hem of your sweatpants. “Can I take these off?” You lift your hips, permitting him to remove them.
“Fuck,” he breathes, staring at your pussy.
“Adrian…” You mumble, suddenly self-conscious. Exposed. You try to bring your knees together, but he places a hand on each of your thighs, holding them firmly open.
“You’re wet already,” he says, in a self-satisfied sort of way that makes your skin feel like it’s on fire. “When did that happen? Was it when I said I’d make you cum?”
You shake your head. “When I was wondering what kind of sexy dare you wanted to give me.”
He grins “I wanted to dare you to take your top off.” He traces a finger along your hot, wet folds. You gasp, feeling the calloused texture of his fingertip brushing up and down against your skin.
“Like this?” You lift your tank top up and over your head, tossing it aside and then you squeeze your tits together.
He sits on the floor, lips parted slightly in awe. You feel like he’s looking at you like you’re the most-
“You’re the most beautiful fucking thing I’ve ever seen.”
Now you really are embarrassed but before you can respond, he dips the finger that was sliding along your folds into your pussy. You bite your lip to stifle the vulnerable, blissful sigh that leaves you.
“It’s okay- you can moan for me.” He reassures, pushing a thick finger in and up. You feel your walls squeezing around him in response. “God, you’re so tight around my finger.”
“Fuck-” you plead, as he teases you, gently stroking your g-spot. His lips haven’t even touched you yet and you already feel like you’re having to consciously stop yourself from cumming.
“You needed this, huh?” he asks and you watch as he kisses your inner thigh, sucking the sensitive skin there. You have to look away- just the sight of his jaw muscles moving as he traces his tongue along the crevice where your thigh meets your body almost sends you over the brink.
“Adrian, I’m- fuck-” After all your warnings about how difficult it would be to make you cum, you’re are shamefully close already- and Adrian knows it. Everything below your waist is hot and shaking and swollen as his finger curls up inside you, tapping rhythmically.
“Wait not yet- I’ve got to taste you. I want you to cum on my tongue.”
Warmth envelopes your clit as Adrian opens his mouth and slowly glides his tongue over the bundle of nerves there, tasting you for the first time. He barely moves at all but you’re so close that just the pressure of his mouth on you sends the crashing wave of your orgasm rolling across his hot tongue. Your back arches and your walls clamp down around his finger.
He lets out a groan, sending pleasant vibrations across your clit.
“Shit, Adrian-”
Blinding lights appear somewhere between your eyelids and the centre of the universe. Your thighs tense as the pleasure shoots through your body, your pussy flooding his mouth between your legs.
When you finally stop twitching he removes his tongue from you, giving you a moment’s respite.
“That was, like, really easy,” he smirks as you run your hands through your hair in disbelief. “I didn’t even have to take my glasses off.”
“I’ve never-” You try to catch your breath, blinking at him. You’re not sure you’ve even made yourself cum that quickly before. “That’s never happened -so fast- ever.”
“I shoulda asked what two orgasms would get me.”
“Literally anything. Do whatever you want with me-” you babble, staring up at the ceiling. You pause to look down when you feel him remove his finger from inside you.
And he takes off his glasses, ready to make you a fucking mess.
It’s the singular hottest action you’ve ever seen anyone do in your entire life- Adrian Chase is going to be the end of you.
He hooks his arms behind your knees, lifting your ass off of the couch and pulling you towards him.
“You’re so beautiful like this,” he says, mesmerised by the way your chest still heaves in the aftershock of your orgasm. Adrian buries his face between your legs, delving his tongue between your lips and exploring your entrance.
He pulls back for a second “I knew you’d taste so fucking good.”
Fuck.
You watch as he sucks on two of his fingers and sinks them deep inside you, up to his knuckles. When you repeat his name over and over, he answers by flicking his tongue over your clit.
You gasp at the sensation and grab a fistful of his thick, curly hair. His tongue rolls gentle circles around your clit as his fingers work in and out, softly stretching your pussy. Adrian takes his time now and it’s agonising.
For so long he’s been having sex as Vigilante. Adrian’s missed this, the freedom of having his mask off. Of taste. And he can’t believe that it’s you that he’s devouring.
Fuck, and you could lie here like this forever, just enjoying him exploring you, like he wants nothing more than to make you gush all over him and cry his name again. Normally you’d feel under pressure to perform, to give him that second orgasm he’s so determined to draw from you, but the way he’s taking his time, lazily swirling his tongue in circles, and curling his fingers into you makes you dissolve into a puddle.
“Fuuuck,” you whine helplessly, feeling the familiar sensation of you losing yourself, the heat that’s been slowly building deep in your core threatening to boil over. “Can we do this, like, the whole time you’re here protecting me?” Your eyes try to find his but he’s staring at your tits. His other hand is on your hip, fingers not quite stretching up towards you - as if unsure what the boundary is on touching you when it comes to this silly little deal you’ve made.
You pull his hand to your chest, encouraging him to squeeze you. He moans needily between wet, sloppy licks. The sound of him being so turned on just from touching your body, when you haven’t laid a hand on him yet sends ecstasy searing through you.
And it comes, whipping through your core and cracking like thunder. You squeeze your thighs around his head and he lets you set the pace, as you grind yourself wildly onto his tongue, his lips, his chin. Adrian groans in encouragement when you grip the back of his head, his fingers still pressing into your g-spot as you press yourself against his mouth.
You cum hard again, your rocking hips eventually shuddering to a halt as he gives you a few last long, slow licks. The faint prickle of embarrassment you feel from letting yourself come undone like that vanishes when you see Adrian’s face light up, his lips swollen and sticky, totally enamoured by your now slightly dishevelled appearance.
His mouth looks irresistible. You slink down off the couch to join him on the floor so you can kiss him desperately. Fuck, why did you ever listen to Taylor? You needed this. Needed him. You taste the sweet, salty juices on Adrian’s lips and on his tongue.
“I’ll admit-” you breathe, pressing your forehead against his. “- you’re like really, really fucking good at that.”
“Told you.” He leans on the couch and gets to his feet. “So, where’s your bedroom?”
“Uh, down the hall, across from the bathroom. Why?”
“Two orgasms and I can do what I want with you. Deal’s a deal.” Before your brain can catch up, he hoists you to your feet and over his shoulder, making you squeal involuntarily with delight.
Oh my fucking god.
Adrian slaps your ass and carries you through to your bedroom, tossing you onto your bed where you burst into a fit of giggles. He smells warm and clean, like your favourite shower gel he must have used earlier. He crawls on top of you and plants tiny kisses all over your lips, your cheeks, your nose- every inch of your face and neck peppered with his affection.
He pulls off his T-shirt and - Jesus Christ, he has abs. But you also notice his torso is covered in scars and bruises, the evidence of his double life painted across his body. A streak of white scar tissue here, a purple welt there-
“Don’t girls usually ask about all these injuries?” You ask, tracing your hand down his chest.
“I usually keep my suit on.” He shrugs.
And that’s when you realise- he doesn’t just happen to have sex as Vigilante. He only has sex as Vigilante. You feel a pang of understanding, thinking about the way he so wistfully described missionary earlier. You’re the only one who’s seen him like this. Both sides of him.
Adrian undoes his belt buckle and looks down at you lying spread out of the bedsheets in front of him, still flushed and glowing. He knew he’d be able to make you glow like that.
He pauses. “Do, uh, do you have a condom? I wasn’t expecting to…”
You find a condom in your bedside drawer while he undresses and then you help to put it on him as you kiss the small trail of dark hair below his belly button. He’s big- bigger than what you’re used to. You’d really, really like to suck it, you think. But Adrian has other ideas. He guides you back to lie on your pillows and climbs on top of you.
Wanton anticipation bubbles over inside you, you sigh needily as he kisses your neck and brings his calloused hand between your legs again. He slides his fingers into your folds and you hear the wet sounds of him rubbing your slick on his cock. It’s greedy but you’re already impatient for him- you want to cum for him again.
He positions himself at your entrance and looks into your eyes. “You okay?” he murmurs.
“Yes,” you breathe. “Fuck me- please.”
The way you plead makes him twitch- he can’t take it anymore. The erection he’s had since you opened that second bottle of wine is throbbing. Adrian’s hips press into you and you feel his cock pushing through your folds, into your centre. A soft whimper escapes your lips as you feel him filling you up, the walls of your pussy struggling to accommodate him.
Watching your reaction, he double checks “Sure you’re okay?”
You nod. Because it aches - but in the best kind of way.
“Good,” he says. “Because you feel so good. Your pussy feels so fucking good around me.”
You wrap your legs around his waist. Fuck, he has such a slutty little waist, you think to yourself as he grinds into you, pushing deeper, the head of his cock pressing into your g-spot. You slip your hand between your bodies to touch yourself and he moans quietly in your ear.
“Oh my god, yeah. Fuck, rub your clit because I’m not gonna last long.”
He clasps your other hand, fingers intertwining with yours- half holding it, half pinning it to the bed. Your body writhes under him, leaning your head back into your pillows and he takes the opportunity to suck at your freshly exposed neck.
“You look so good taking it so deep like this,” he groans, tilting his head down to watch his cock slide in and out of you. “I can’t believe I’m fucking inside you.”
Everything he says makes the hairs on the back of your arms stand up. You feel so, deliciously full- the indecent slapping and squelching noises as he picks up pace and pounds into you only makes you wetter.
Your legs squeeze around his waist as your whole body tightens like a spring coiling, ready to be released. The friction of his body moves yours, driving you into your mattress, and putting even more rhythmic pressure on your fingers against your clit.
“Adrian, I’m- ah, fuck- I’m gonna cum again.”
“Fuck, look at me. I want you to cum when I cum. Let it all out for me.”
You try and keep eye contact with him while bliss rockets through your body as his hips slam into you harder. It spreads from your centre right down your legs, now in a vice-like grip around him. You curse his name incoherently, your pussy tightening and releasing as you cum around his cock.
“That’s it- fuckfuckfuckfuck-” His full weight collapses on you as he empties himself. You feel Adrian’s cock pulsing inside you as he groans your name and comes to a halt.
You both lie there for a few moments, Adrian breathing raggedly into the crook of your neck, his heartbeat and yours pounding against each other. Your euphoria is interrupted only briefly when he pulls out of you and disposes of the condom.
Adrian returns to your bed and pulls you into his chest.
“I am never listening to Taylor ever again,” you say, face pressed against his pectoral muscles.
“Yeah?”
“I mean, unless…” You tilt your head up to look at him. “You still want to take me on a date right?”
“Are you crazy? Of course, I do. Why wouldn’t I?”
“Nevermind.” The dating scene in Evergreen has sucked so hard for so long, your first thought was that he might not want to see you again.
He grabs your face with both hands, trying to drum sense into you. “I’ve wanted to ask you out for months. You’re not getting rid of me.”
Adrian plants a kiss on your forehead.
Maybe there is a decent man in this town after all.

You Look Like Shit
Adrian Chase/Vigilante x Reader
Tumblr media
Adrian Chase Masterlist
Prompt: Adrian helps you calm down at the end of a stressful work week.
Warnings: Stress, a ridiculous amount of hurt/comfort
A/N: This is so so deeply self indulgent. If you know me and my real life no you don’t. Look away lol. Sorry if you see typos. This was barely proofread. Just a short little thing I wrote on a night where I had trouble sleeping. Crossposted on my AO3 adriansglasses.
You sat in the driver’s seat, dissociating, staring into space at your home through the windshield of your parked car. Eventually you blink, take a shakey breath, and get out of your car, slowly heading to the door.
“Babe, is that you?” You hear your boyfriend call from the other room.
“Yeah.” You force a response out, despite feeling like your energy is running on empty. You’d just worked a pretty tough night shift. Just standing up right felt like an impossible task.
“Hey have you seen my- woah… don’t take this the wrong way, but you look like shit.” Adrian says, stopping in his tracks to look at you. He’s half dressed in his Vigilante suit, but he’s missing the chest piece. You can barely focus your eyes on him.
“Two no call no shows, a regular call out, unhappy customers, screaming babies, and something in the back of my head is still worried that building is gonna blow up because we never figured out what that weird smell coming from the heater was a couple days ago. Not to mention one of the no shows was a friend and now it’s my job to find her and connect her with work because somehow some way they don’t have her fucking phone number.” You feel tears start to build in your eyes.
“Holy shit…” Adrian’s voice trails off.
“And if I wasn’t stressed enough I’m covering extra shifts left and right and I don’t even have time to prep for my supervisor interview next week for the promotion and I’m massively overstimulated and everything is just going wrong.” Your voice cracks.
“If they don’t give you that promotion they’re stupid.” He sighs.
“Can I please have a hug?” Your voice trembles as tears begin to fall.
“Come here.” He holds out his arms. As soon as you reach his arms you start sobbing, finally letting out the tears you were holding in all night, the tears your body wouldn’t let out before because it only feels safe enough to do this with Adrian when it’s so stressed. He pulls you close, giving you the pressure you crave. He runs his hand across your back slowly. Your mind tracks the calming repetitive motion. “I’m sorry you’re so stressed. You have every right to be, but you’re home now and I’ve got you. You don’t have to worry about anything right now.”
“But- but I- I can’t stop stressing! I can’t stop! Like what the fuck am I supposed to do?” Adrian notices as your breathing quickens. You’re struggling to keep it at its normal pace.
“Hey hey hey.” He shushes you. “Why don’t we go lay down? Let me take care of things for the night.” He suggests.
“But I thought you were going out.” You gesture to his suit.
“No, I don’t need to go out. Not when you need me here.” He kisses you on the forehead, starting to play with your hair.
“But the city needs you.” You don’t want him to go, but you don’t want to be selfish.
“No, my partner needs me. The streets have been quiet this week. P can handle it on his own and if he can’t he can call me.”
“I just don’t wanna fuck anything else up.”
“Look at me.” He separates from you enough so you can see his face. “You’re not fucking anything up. I’m choosing to take the night off because it’s pretty chill out there and quite frankly I deserve it and I’m gonna use that time to hang out with my awesome partner. You’ve been working your ass off. That place wouldn’t run without you. Just let yourself try to relax with me tonight. We both deserve it.”
“Are you sure?” You ask quietly.
“Positive.” He smiles at you. He leads you to the bedroom where he helps you get changed. He picks out more comfortable clothes for you, letting you wear his clothes because he knows you always prefer his shirts over your own.
“That’s better.” He smiles, kissing your forehead after you’re eventually cuddled up to him in bed for the night.
“I’m sorry for ruining your night.” You say, looking away.
“You didn’t ruin anything. I didn’t even wanna go out. It’s kinda cold. Plus who wants to kill criminals when I could be killing your bad vibes.” You laugh quietly.
“I love you so much.” You snuggle into him.
“I love you too, but you should try to get some sleep. You really need it. It’s not like you have to be anywhere in the morning. You can just rest. You don’t have work tomorrow.”
“Yeah, but I’m just so stressed about work. I don’t wanna sit here. What if something goes wrong? Not to mention, not setting an alarm just feels wrong. I keep thinking I’ll oversleep and miss work, but I don’t have work tomorrow.” He feels you tensing in his arms as you ramble.
“But you’re with me now, Sugarplum,” He reminds you. “and I wouldn’t let you miss work, so get that out of your head. I know it’s hard, but try to relax. Your body is stressed about things and it’s just creating more stress, but I’m literally gonna find a way to shrink down and go inside your brain and start hitting buttons like Inside Out to get you to stop. Actually, Chris told me there’s this guy called Batmite and he’s pretty small so maybe he could crawl through your ear-“
“Adrian!” You cut him off.
“Sorry I forgot that’s gross to you.”
“Ear stuff is gross to most people.”
“I think your ears are cute.” He smiles.
“I think you’re weird.” You giggle. “And cute.” You add. “Very, very cute.” You smile. You don’t know how even on nights like this he can make you smile. On nights when nothing feels right and the world is broken, Adrian is the only thing that makes sense to you.
“Well you’re way cuter.” He smiles.
“I’m so deeply in love with you.” You say what you’re thinking out loud.
“Well that’s a relief because I’m so deeply in love with you… and I’ll be deeply in love with you in the morning too. I’m gonna be here all night. I’m not gonna leave you- well… I might get up to pee, but that’s like a 2 minute side quest. Okay the point is, I want you to try to sleep.”
“Can you keep talking? I’ll close my eyes, but I really love your voice. It helps. Just until I fall asleep?” He smiles at your request.
“I’d talk all night if it helped. I’d talk until my voice box broke. I’d talk until I die.” He vows.
“Please don’t die. I just want you to talk long enough that I can stay calm enough to fall asleep.”
“I guess I can do that too, but where’s the challenge in that? I could tell you how much I love you in a million ways and it still wouldn’t be enough. It’s like those papers you wrote in detention where you have to write you’ll never do again what you did wrong like 100 times on a sheet of loose leaf… I guess I’ll start off by staying that you’re strong and I love you and I’m proud of you and that I’m happy you’re strong, but you don’t have to be so strong around me. You can let me take care of you. I’m here and you’re safe.”
Your eyes get heavy and you fade away to Adrian’s reassurances.

seven (not really) sentence sunday!
tagged by @sznofthesticks thank u bff 🧡
from an adrian chase wip ive had in my docs for years (okay so it was for a different fandom & i changed it to adrian)
***
“Oh yeah, she's definitely not fine.” Adrian commented. “When were you gonna mention you'd been stabbed?”
"When was the right time? When we were fighting off those men, or maybe when I was hanging off the edge?!" You fired back. Your breathing was jagged now, the deep, searing pain was taking over, like a parasite burrowing inside you.
"Maybe instead of arguing with Adrian, you could have mentioned it." Leota piped up through the earpiece. You opened your mouth to respond, but instead, you let out a piercing scream, doubling over in agony, clutching at your stomach.
"Fuck, okay guys, you gotta come get us right now. I swear if she dies on me, she always said she'd make it look like I did it and -"
Adrians voice was distorted. It sounded like an old vinyl being played in slow motion. You had absolutely no idea how you were still on your feet, truthfully. You took deep breaths and looked up at Adrian, but you couldn't make out his features. He was just one large blur.
"Adrian, I'm fine." You repeated. You blinked a couple of times, an attempt to restore your vision.
"You don't look fine." Adrian said. "Actually, you look like you're about to faint."
"Mhmm, I think you're gonna want to catch me."

Imagine Adrian’s girlfriend being super inexperienced and innocent, like Adrian is her “first” in everything, her first kiss (ever), her first sexual experiences (ever), and her first time
She’s all shy and nervous, unsure how to go about things, and he basically is guiding and teaching her 😭
Guide Me
Tumblr media
Character: Adrian Chase x InexperiencedFem!Reader
Type: Fluffy Smut
Contains: Soft dom Adrian, Oral (Fem receiving), PiV, Praise, just soft Adrian talking you through it
Length: 1.6k words
Summary: You have had your first's with Adrian and now you are ready for your first time with Adrian. He guides you through it all.
A/N: I thought I'd do a small one-shot/Valentine's special since this request seemed perfect for it also I'm a little rusty for writing smut so I apologize. More requests coming soon!!!
At the beginning of your and Adrian's relationship, he was immediately shocked to find out you've never been kissed. You were the most perfect girl he'd ever met. I mean you were kind, loved his jokes, and could put up with his pointless rambles. Already wife material.
And besides he's had all his first times and he was.... well him.
He was also insanely (nervous) honored to be your first times. He made sure to make each of them as enjoyable and magical as he possibly could. During your first kiss, he held you carefully in his arms on the couch of his apartment. The kiss was deep and memorable. That scene was engraved into your everyday thoughts.
It was now Valentine's Day and Adrian went all out to make this day as special as he possibly could make it. He took notes from all the cute couples he saw online. The rose petals, the chocolate, and all his love. He was happy to have a day off in his week for this day and also he knew Fennnel Feilds would be loud and packed all night long. His lovely girlfriend didn't have it off though and he was disappointed but he would make up all the missed time later that night.
Adrian stood proudly in the doorway of your shared bedroom looking upon his works.
-
I dropped my bag by the door with a deep sigh. I was finally home and work was so stress-filled. I was just so happy to be home with Adrian. At the sound of the door opening, Adrian came rushing from our bedroom with a dorky grin on his lips.
"Welcome home honey." He enveloped me in a gentle hug. "Happy Valentine's Day." He said his voice filled with excitement. I was pressed up against his chest and I felt so comfortable.
"Hi baby, what's up?" I smiled sensing something with how eager he was acting. He grabbed my hand softly and led me to our room.
"I have a surprise for you and I think you're gonna like it."He said in a sing-song voice. My footsteps echoed in the hallway since I had yet to take off my shoes, We reached the slightly ajar door and he gestured for me to open it myself. I looked at him then the door and pushed it open.
There was a trail of rose petals leading to our bed and in the center were a few bags of chocolate followed by more rose petals. Candles surrounded the room making it feel romantic.
"This is all for me?" I smiled. Adrian nodded happily proud of himself. I walked into the room to see the whole thing. "Thank you so much!" I squealed. I turned to kiss him. He took no time to kiss back. He trailed his large hands up my torso creating an intense feeling to go through my body, his hand resting on my shoulder. My heart rate started to increase as his hands got needier and his mind got dirtier.
"Adrian." I gasped as he pulled me closer.
"Tell me you need this as much as I do," He said quietly against my lips. I nodded but he still waited for a verbal confirmation.
"I need you, Adrian please." I pleaded and he dove back in and kissed me again. He walked me backward to the bed until my legs made contact with our soft sheets.
I moved the chocolate to the other side of the bed, and Adrian laid me down. I watched him unsure what to do. Where should I put my hands? I just propped myself up on my arms. He noticed how almost scared I looked. I was only scared of if I messed up never because of Adrian.
"Here, I'll guide you." He reassured me. "Let's get these off." He started to unbutton my pants and pull them off, throwing them to the side. He looked so concentrated it was sweet.
He was a sight to take in. His hair was falling over his glasses as he was between my thighs. Shit, he looked good. His green eyes took in every inch of my body I had to offer. He slowly started to kiss up my thighs giving small rubs on the sides of them. My breath hitched to this foreign feeling.
"Let me make you feel good okay? If you need me to stop I will at any point." He said as he continued to rub the pads of his thumbs over my legs. I nodded. His thick fingers came and tugged my underwear down throwing them off the bed. "You look so pretty for me." He hummed. My cheeks grew hot.
"What do you want me to do?" I looked at him.
“Just stay still for me okay honey?” He asked. His hands trembled with adrenaline. I could tell he had been waiting for this very moment for a while now.
The way he looked at me every time I wore something ever so slightly revealing. Like he was starving. I brought myself a little bit closer and he threw my legs over his shoulders.
And just like that he held my legs and licked a line straight through my folds and a gasp rose from me. He looked at me making sure he could continue and I nodded. He licked stripes up and down. Slowly his glasses started to fog up. He looked at me so lovingly as he buried his tongue inside of me.
"Fuck Adrian," I whined and brought a hand to the back of his head, my hands tangling in his dark curls. More moans poured out of my mouth as his tongue worked so desperately. He didn't care about himself right now only the possibility of me coming undone on his face filled his need.
"Keep making those sounds for me." He smiled enjoying every second of this. He paid close attention to my clit, sucking in such an amazing way before slipping his middle finger into me. A moan erupted from me and he pumped it in and out. "You're doing so good honey.. look at you." He murmured already pussy drunk. He continued to suck at my clit and move his fingers faster inside of me. I started to feel the pressure building in my stomach and I threw my head back just trying to chase that release. Adrian stopped fully and removed his fingers.
"Why'd you stop?" I whined breathlessly. He smirked, enjoying the effect he seemed to have on me.
"As much as I would love for you to come on my face I need to be inside of you." I could still see my slick coating his lips. His dirty words made butterflies explode in my stomach. He pulled his shirt over his head and his biceps gleamed in the dim lighting of our bedroom. His pants followed quickly after. "Just lay back for me." I complied immediately. He pulled out a condom from his bedside table, ripping it open with his teeth and rolling it down onto himself. " Are you ready?"
"Yes," I murmured out just watching the memorizing way his body moved. He hovered over me and brought my legs over his hips. Slowly he started to push his cock into me. My hands gripped his arms for support.
"That's it you're taking me so well." He sucked small hickeys onto my neck. "Good girl." He mumbled once he bottomed out inside me. He waited for a moment, waiting for me to let him know. It took me a minute to feel comfortable.
"I please move." I pleaded and he listened. He pulled out leaving me empty for a few seconds before filling me again. He moved slowly and I could tell he was holding back. I knew he wanted this for so long but a part of him was nervous to ask. The uncomfortable feeling melted away the pleasure started to take over.
"You can speed up." I let him know.
"Thank you, baby." He held my hips and started fucking up into me making him let out whimpers of his own. "Thank you for letting me take care of you. Fuck." He had just started and he was already finding that sweet spot inside my body. Every time he pulled out it left an empty sense that was always consumed by a delicious feeling of his cock ramming back inside of me.
I felt myself squeeze down on him, getting lost in the pleasure. His cock twitched inside of me and fuck I just needed all of him. He continued to speed up to what I didn't think was possible but Adrian was always full of surprises. Soon that feeling came back and that desire to release returned with it. I bucked my hips up to meet Adrian's thrusts.
"Fuck Adrian I think I'm close," I said breathlessly to him. That alone caused a moan from him. Any kind of pleasure from me seemed to set him off.
"Baby let go. Cum on my cock baby." He pumped himself a couple of more times before I reached my climax and came on him like he wanted me to. It didn't take him long to catch up with me. His final thrusts pushed him over the edge and he lost it.
"Fuck you're so good for me." Adrian collapsed next to me immediately bringing me into his arms. He already was mumbling more praise in between kisses in his fucked out state. He pulled a blanket over us keeping us warm in each other's embrace
"Happy Valentines." He smiled happily kissing the side of my head.
"Yeah, happy Valentines." I sighed comfortably in the arms of the man I loved so much.

Something I Love More
Adrian Chase x Reader
Summary: Amanda Waller has one very strict rule: no dating among team members. So when she finds out that you and Vigilante have been dating, she gives you an option. But it’s going to require a sacrifice. Reader is gender-neutral.
Warnings: A bit angsty, fluff at the end
Word Count: 5658
A/N: School has become even more overwhelming and stressful than usual as it’s starting to wrap up for the semester. So instead of working on that, I’ve gone back to the work that brings me joy. Featuring one of my fav boys <3
Tumblr media
“Do you know why I’ve called you in to see me this morning, Agent Y/L/N?” Amanda Waller says. She’s sat behind a glass desk, sitting in a black leather chair. Her posture is unflinching, as is her guarded expression. You’re sat across from her in a rather uncomfortable chair. You wonder if it was made like that on purpose, like how an interrogation room can be made to make the suspect feel uneasy.
Still, you aim to mirror her serious and emotionless expression, not wanting to give away anything. Least of all your confusion.
As you were getting ready to leave your place for work, you got an anonymous call. The caller said they were calling on behalf of Ms. Waller and that you were to meet her at her office in ten minutes. Ever since you and the rest of the 11th Street Kids set up a home base in Evergreen, Waller commandeered a temporary office of her own for supervision purposes. The team really only saw her when it was serious.
Which explains your bundle of nerves as you sit in an uncomfortable chair, pressing down on your leg to stop it from bouncing. “I’m afraid I don’t know, ma’am,” you say while maintaining eye contact. You’ve been working with Waller for long enough to know how to navigate a conversation without making any “mistakes.”
Waller sighs. “I was hoping you’d tell me the truth when it came down to it,” she says, her eyes flicking down at her desk and then back at you. “I’m afraid I overestimated your loyalty.”
This causes you to furrow your eyebrows and your heart rate to pick up. “I don’t understand—”
“It’s come to my attention that you and Mr. Chase are in a romantic relationship.” A silence falls over the two of you as her commanding eyes piece into your fearful ones. This was not what you expected.
It’s true. When you first arrived in this town, you felt drawn to the cute yet odd busboy at Fennel Fields. Then came Vigilante who you also felt a connection with. When you learned that the two were actually the same man, you knew you were in trouble. After the terrifying battle with the butterflies at the farm, you knew you were falling in love. So when the team decided to plant roots here, you confessed your feelings. His reaction still warms your heart as he literally jumped for joy.
The two of you have been dating for a few months now and even live in the same apartment (a little fast, you’ll admit, but it seemed like a better idea than trying to find your own place only to spend most of your time together anyway). He has been the best boyfriend you could ask for. You’ve never felt this way about anyone else.
And yet, despite your happiness, there was a lingering threat. A threat that started when Adrian officially became a part of the team. Your team had demanded that Waller accept him because he helped save the world. After a series of government evaluations such as character evals, psychological evals, physical evals, and even intelligence evals (some of which you’re not sure how Adrian passed), he became officially a part of the team. You suspect that Waller likes that he’s morally grey, efficient, and loyal.
Anyway, the threat was Waller’s strict rule on not having romantic entanglements with your fellow teammates. Waller feels that it will distract you from your real mission, her mission, and fears it will threaten your loyalties to her. She’s right.
“Ma’am, I-I can explain—”
“Don’t insult us both by lying. I already know it’s true.” That statement causes you to pause in your panic. Did one of your teammates leak this information? How else can she be so sure? Is she spying on you? She must have seen the gears turning in your head because she says, “I have my ways.”
Though that didn’t help, you also doubted that any of your teammates would rat you two out. “So,” she says. “Are you and Mr. Chase engaged in a romantic relationship?”
There was only one way to answer. “Yes. The two of us are dating,” you say, straightening your back, even more, to try to amplify your confidence.
“Despite the fact that it is strictly forbidden to date your teammate?” Your confidence wavers, but you try not to let it show.
“Yes.”
“May I ask why?” You hesitate, not expecting that kind of question. You know no answer will satisfy her. You may as well tell the truth.
“Because I love him.” You know it sounds silly. You are supposed to be a professional agent, a trained killer, a loyal soldier, and yet here you are admitting to being in love. Love is weakness in Waller’s eyes, and that’s what you had thought too. That was before you knew what it felt like.
A look of disappointment seems to wash over her face, and though you dislike her vehemently, some desperate part of you is saddened by this. “I see.” She seems to take her time and allow the silence to speak for her. “Very well. As you have directly disobeyed the rules, you must now be prepared to face the consequences.”
You can feel your chest tighten as a new wave of anxiety washes over you. This is it. You have no idea what the consequences are, but you’re determined to maintain your brave face. “What’s going to happen?” you ask, not betraying any emotion as she had trained you.
“That’s up to you.” You furrow your eyebrows and tilt your head in confusion. “I’m going to give you three options to choose from.”
“Wait, shouldn’t Adrian be here for this?” you ask. You assume it will affect the both of you.
“I am leaving the decision up to you. I trust you to make the right call.” You don’t like the sound of that. Your fingers itch to grab your phone and text Adrian. You wish he were here with you.
“Option one,” Waller begins. “Is simply that the two of you terminate the relationship.”
Never going to happen, you think but don’t dare say out loud.
“Option two is I reassign you to a different team,” she says. “Team Alpha over in Alaska would benefit from having someone of your skillset.” Your eyes widen, but still, you bite your tongue. You don’t want to leave all of your friends, and this option still pulls you and Adrian apart, only with distance.
“And option three?” you ask hesitantly.
“Option three is that I fire Mr. Chase from your team and he will no longer be able to contact the other team members, besides yourself. If he tries to do so, we will have him arrested. There are a plethora of charges I could choose from.”
Your heart sinks, weighing heavy in your stomach. None of these options are even comprehensible.
“Is…is there no other option?” you ask. Waller looks shocked as she glares at you.
“I believe I am already being quite generous by giving you the opportunity to decide for yourself. Do not push me, Agent Y/L/N, or I will entrust the decision to myself,” she says. You nod and look down at her desk.
“You’re right, I’m sorry, ma’am.” But you don’t know what else to say to her. Your mind is scrambling, trying to picture some future in which any of these options work out, but you keep coming up empty. Luckily, Waller seems to sense this.
“I will give you a moment to think about it before coming to a decision,” she says. Without another word, she stands from her desk and exits her office to do God knows what. Meanwhile, you’re still frozen in your chair. You think over your options once more.
The first is not even a question. You will not be breaking up with the best boyfriend you’ve ever had, the first man you’ve truly loved. You can no longer imagine yourself without Adrian by your side.
The second could be possible but it’s no better. You could try for long distance, but it would be painful. Plus, you would have to leave your other friends on the 11th Street Kids. The six of you have really bonded and have become a true team ever since you saved the world. You couldn’t leave them behind.
And the third breaks your heart completely. Adrian has finally found a group of friends, real friends, whom he can work with. You know that he’s always secretly wanted to work with others while doing the whole vigilante thing. But if he gets fired, he won’t even be able to partner with Chris. He would be alone again. No, you couldn’t do that to him.
You can’t make a decision, and you’re dreading the moment Waller comes back in. You feel trapped, like you’re suffocating, and right when you hear the click-clack of heels walking toward you, an idea comes to you.
“Have you come to a decision?” Waller asks as she re-enters her office.
“Yes, I have,” you say. Waller looks you over, unsure about your new confidence and, possible joy.
“So what will it be?”
“I’ve decided to quit.”
“Excuse me?”
“I’m quitting,” you say.
“Over a man? I thought I had taught you better than this,” Waller sighs.
“For love, actually. And I guess you were wrong.” Waller gives you another disappointed look, and you try to ignore it.
“Very well then,” Waller says. “I will have the paperwork written up and sent for you to sign. You were a good agent. Your skills will be missed.” That’s as sentimental as you’ve ever heard the woman. “Farewell. And good luck.”
“Thank you, ma’am.” You sense that the conversation is over so you give her a court nod, her expression remaining unflinching as you exit the room.
Once you’re in the hallway, you take a breath. You still haven’t really processed what just happened. You can’t come to regret your decision as it was the best choice, and yet a part of you is still sad. It only gets worse when you realize you had a meeting with the team to get to. It’s okay, you think, you’ll still get to see them. It’s not like you’re leaving for good. That’s what you tell yourself as you begin your drive over to the video store that has become your base of operations.
It’s only once you’ve parked your car and looked at the front doors of the store, where all of your friends are, that reality finally catches up to you. The severity of your decision washes over you like a tidal wave and your body tenses up.
You quit. You actually quit your job. The job you’ve been training for practically your whole life, the one you’ve devoted your life to. You’ve been known to make rash decisions from time to time but this takes the cake.
Your breathing starts to pick up as panic tries to take over. Focus, you tell yourself. There’s time to freak out about all of this later. Right now, you just have to get through this conversation.
But you know the minute you tell everyone about this, the situation will become real. Like, no going back real. It’ll be fine. After you take a few deep breaths and shove your emotions deep inside of you, you exit your car. Even so, panicked questions begin to berate you as you make your way to the door.
Why did I do this? Why did I have to quit? Why am I throwing away my life’s work? Why—
You enter the building and immediately lock eyes with your boyfriend. Oh, that’s why. Adrian offers you a big smile and you can feel the questions fade away. You instead focus on him.
“Hey babe!” he says as he makes his way over to you. “How’d it go? OH, I got you some coffee. I didn’t know how long you’d be so I got you an iced coffee because the coffee was going to end up cold either way, right? So anyway, that’s in the breakroom fridge, no pressure if you don’t want to drink it, I just thought you might want it after your long morning—”
You grab his face and pull him into a kiss. Him. Your beautiful, considerate, and loving boyfriend. That’s what all this was for, and right now, you only feel joy at the thought of him going out of his way to make your morning a little bit better.
You break from the kiss and Adrian has the cutest flustered look on his face, accompanied by a smile. “I love you,” you tell him. More than you know.
“All that for coffee?” he asks, bringing a smile to your face. Before you can say anything else, a voice cuts you off.
“Can we get back to the meeting, please?” Harcourt says. You almost jump in surprise. You glance over Adrian’s shoulder and only then notice the rest of the team sitting in the middle of the room with a presentation behind them.
Oh, right, you think as heat starts to spread to your cheeks. “Sorry,” you say. Adrian doesn’t blink an eye as he turns around.
“I’m not,” he says. Wanting to move past this, you grab Adrian’s hand and drag him over to the rest of the group. You take a seat and he follows suit, looking very pleased.
“As I was saying—” Harcourt says but then is immediately cut off.
“How’d your meeting with Waller go?” Peacemaker asks you. Harcourt looks pissed but then changes her expression to curious as she looks at you. And just like that, all eyes are on you. Why does this seem more torturous than actual torture?
“Surprisingly well,” you say, lying through your teeth.
“What did she want to talk to you about?” Adebayo asks.
You clear your throat. “Actually, it was me who wanted to talk to her.” Again, lies. You hate lying, especially to Adrian, but there was no way you were going to tell him the real reason behind the visit. He would only do something stupid like get himself fired, or possibly arrested.
“Wait what? What did you want to talk to her about?” Adrian asks. Deep breaths, you tell yourself. Your eyes flitter to each person until you land on the floor. Quit stalling. It’s just like ripping off a bandaid.
You lift your head up and say, “I quit.” Dead silence seems to choke the room and you hold your breath, waiting for a reaction. Well, you got it.
“What?”
“What are you talking about?”
“This is a joke, right?”
“What the fuck?”
Their faces all display emotions of hurt and confusion. You don’t dare look at the man beside you. “I know this may come as a bit of a shock—” you try to explain.
“A bit?!” Adebayo exclaims.
“Getting zapped by an outlet is a bit of a shock, you just threw lightning at us!” Economos shouts.
“Where is this coming from?” Adrian asks from beside you in a softer tone. You risk a glance at him, and his hurt expression breaks your heart. He would have been a lot sadder if you had to move to Alaska.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while, the idea of changing things up, and I finally made up my mind this morning,” you say, using a calm expression and trying not to show any emotions.
“This just doesn’t make sense, you love your job. You said it was your dream job,” Harcourt says, eyeing you more suspiciously than the others. You make a note not to look her directly in the eyes.
“I do love it, but it’s all I’ve ever done. I want to try something new,” you say, trying to convince yourself as well as the others. Another eruption of questions begins, the confrontation triggering your fight or flight. Normally, you’d always go with fight. But that doesn’t seem to be getting you anywhere.
“I’m sorry I had to tell you this way. I didn’t expect everything to happen so quickly,” you say over the noise. “We’ll still see each other and hang out like normal, nothing has to change.” This doesn’t deter your friends as they keep asking you questions you don’t know the answer to. “On that note, however, I don’t think Waller would be too pleased to hear I sat in on a confidential meeting.”
You stand up and quickly make your way to the doors, heading straight for your car. You don’t look back as you peel out of there, and though you feel guilty, you also feel relieved to be alone to process your feelings.
Normal jobs would give you two more weeks after quitting; however that’s not how Amanda Waller works. If you quit, you’re out. Just like that. No time to slowly transition. God you hate that woman.
It doesn’t take you long to get to your apartment and then you quickly hurry to get inside, just wanting to curl up on the couch for comfort. Your shoes are carelessly tossed to the side as you fall into the cozy embrace of your couch.
You had time to pull yourself together before Adrian got home from work. At least, that’s what you thought. Just as you were about to finally let out your emotions, you hear the door being unlocked. Goddamnit. Of course, he would follow you. Of course, he would want answers. Of course, you wouldn’t be allowed to have a breakdown in private.
You sit up and calm yourself down just as Adrian comes barrelling in. “Um, what the fuck was that?” he asks. You begrudgingly put on your emotional armour and turn to face him.
“What do you mean?” you ask, and then regret it as Adrian begins to flip out.
“What do I mean?! I mean why the fuck did you just quit? And why is this the first time I’m hearing about it?” This is unfair, you think. Adrian is supposed to be the one person in this world who you can share everything with. Who you can confide in and seek comfort in. Now, you have to lie to him like everyone else. This is for his own good.
“I know you’re upset—”
“Upset?!”
“But can you please stop yelling at me?” He looks like he’s about to argue with you when he closes his eyes and forcefully takes a breath. When he looks at you again, you wish he would yell because there’s that sad fucking look of his that has the power to shatter your heart in seconds.
“Will you please tell me what the fuck is going on?” he asks you calmly, though you can tell he’s still hurt and confused.
“I’m serious about quitting, Adrian,” you tell him.
“But why didn’t you tell me before?” he says as he comes to sit beside you on the couch. “I thought we told each other everything.” Ouch.
“I didn’t know if I would go through with it,” you say. “And telling you…only would have made it more real.” You look at him and try to comfort him a little. “I really didn’t want to leave, I love working with you and everyone else. This is just something I have to do, for me.”
You take his hand and squeeze it, desperately hoping he wouldn’t be so upset with you anymore. “I…I guess that makes sense,” Adrian grumbles. “I still wish you would have talked to me first.”
“I know, I’m sorry.” You sit like that, waiting for him to speak.
“Is there any way I can change your mind?” he asks softly. “I liked having you as a partner, both on and off the field.” This man is pulling on your heartstrings.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart, but I’m not changing my mind.” He nods sadly. There’s a moment of silence. “Will the others be mad you left?”
He shrugs. “Probably,” he says. “I guess I should be leaving.”
“Yeah.” For a few moments, he doesn’t leave. You can tell he’s having trouble processing this whole thing. Then he takes a deep breath and stands up, your hand falling back onto your lap.
He starts to leave when you call out to him. “Wait!” you say and he turns around. “No goodbye kiss?” That elicits a small smile from him. He walks back over and gives you a quick kiss.
“I’m going to miss doing that at work,” he says and you playfully shove him. The two of you are smiling and your heart feels a little lighter.
“Get out of here already,” you say jokingly.
“I am quite tempting—”
“Go!” you giggle. He heads for the door. “I’ll see you later okay?”
“Okay, love you, bye!”
“Love you bye!” And with that he’s gone. A smile is left lingering on your face but soon your thoughts catch up to you and you finally break down.
†††
A week has passed since you officially quit the team. Once you let yourself feel upset about it all, you decide to make the most of it. Sure, your job had been your life’s work but maybe there were other interests of yours that you hadn’t discovered.
You’ve looked through help wanted ads in the local newspaper but nothing appealed to you. Nothing online either. But that’s okay, you reassure yourself. This is good, some time just for you, away from work. Except that you’ve been bored out of your mind.
This past week, you have cleaned the apartment from top to bottom, fixed some minor house repairs, learned how to cook at least one meal and baked a shit ton of cookies. Not that Adrian minded that last part.
Adrian. He has been so supportive throughout all of this. Pointing out jobs he thinks you might like, encouraging hobbies, even trying to get you into DND. Which makes the lying all the more difficult. You want to tell him, but you know that would only complicate matters. No, unfortunately you will have to learn to live with this lie.
Meanwhile, the topic had yet to settle back at the video store. “It just doesn’t make any sense!” Harcourt says as she and Adebayo walk into the store from their lunch break.
“What doesn’t make sense?” Economos asks.
“Harcourt misses Y/N,” Adebayo replies with a little smile and Harcourt gives her an angry look. Adrian perks up instantly at the sound of your name.
“You think you miss them?! What about me?” he asks with a slight pout. He missed having his beautiful, sexy, funny, perfect partner by his side. Especially on the field, when normally he would know you’d be there to watch his back.
“Vig, you see them literally every other second of the day,” Chris says with slight annoyance.
“But I miss seeing them every second of the day. It’s not the same.” Though he respects your decision, that doesn’t mean he can’t be a little upset about it.
“Okay, do I miss having the only competent team member other than myself? Yes,” Harcourt says which earns a crowd of offended protests. “But it’s not just that. Something about the whole situation just seems…I don’t know, off.”
The rest of the group kind of agrees. But Adrian feels he has to defend you. “Look guys, I know we all miss them because they’re literally the most perfect being to exist,” he says without even thinking, which causes a few groans. “But it’s their decision so we have to support it.” Adebayo nods her head in agreement, but the rest are unconvinced.
“But doesn’t it seem a little suspicious to you?” Harcourt asks him. Despite the fact that Adrian has had some doubts lurking in the back of his mind, he acts ignorant.
“What do you mean?” he asks.
“I mean, they don’t mention anything to you about quitting before and then suddenly after a meeting with Waller, it’s all about experimenting bullshit.”
“Wait, you think Waller has something to do with this?” Chris asks.
“I mean, it wouldn’t surprise me,” Adebayo adds in.
“It’s possible,” John says. But this doesn’t sit right with Adrian.
“Stop! It has nothing to do with Waller. Because that would mean that Y/N lied to us, to me. Why would they do that?” Adrian asks, half talking to himself because what they’re saying is starting to make sense. But he doesn’t want them to be right. “I mean, what could Waller say to make them quit her dream job?”
Adrian thinks the conversation is over as a quiet falls over the room. But suddenly, he sees Harcourt’s face light up with realization. And she must have been thinking the same thing, because Adebayo looks at her with the same face. It has Adrian’s stomach turning.
“What? What was that?” Adrian asks them.
“Nothing,” they both say.
“You guys totally just figured it out,” Chris says. It seems the boys are struggling to come to the same conclusion.
“No we didn’t,” Adebayo tries to say casually but she’s not the greatest liar.
“Tell me,” Adrian says, desperately looking between the two of them who refuse to look at him. Finally, Harcourt sighs.
“Look, I think you should talk to Y/N about it,” she says. He looks to Adebayo to see her nodding. The two of them won’t say anything else. Adrian’s mind is in a frenzy and he needs answers.
“Fine,” he says before walking out the door.
“I didn’t mean right now—forget it,” Harcourt sighs, giving up on calling after him.
†††
You’re on the couch watching reruns on TV because why not, and eating some cookies you made. “Damn, maybe I could be a baker,” you say with your mouth full. Just as a new show starts to play, you hear the door open and see Adrian.
“Oh, hey babe,” you say, a bit relieved to have a distraction. “What are you doing back so early?”
“I need to talk to you,” he says and it’s only then that you take in his serious demeanour. The look worries you and the thought of your secret bubbles to your mind’s surface. No, there’s no way he knows.
“Okay.” He walks over to the couch and you see he’s thinking hard about something. And he isn’t looking at you. “Is everything okay?”
“You wouldn’t lie to me, right?” he asks. Your stomach drops and suddenly the cookies you ate feel like lead.
“Where is this coming from?” Your palms begin to sweat so you place them in your lap. Adrian then looks right at you and it feels like a spotlight is shining directly on you.
“The team doesn’t believe the reason you gave for quitting. And I want to believe you, so tell me you wouldn’t lie.”
He’s looking at you with his big, honest eyes and for the first time, you falter under interrogation. You’re not sure how far you’re willing to dig yourself into this hole. What if you end up ruining the relationship with this? Then it was all for nothing. It’s too much.
“You know the answer to that,” you say, trying to find some way out of this.
“Why won’t you just say it?” he asks, and you hear a bit of hurt in his voice. He’s looking at you, and you want to cry because it’s like you’re stabbing him in the heart and your heartbeat is in your ears and it’s all too much.
“Because it’s a stupid question!” You get up from the couch and walk towards the kitchen, looking for an escape to breathe.
“You did lie.” You are no longer looking at him but you know he’s walked over to you. You cannot believe that all this pain was from Amanda fucking Waller of all people. Will she cause the end of your relationship after all. “But…why?”
“Adrian,” you say, your voice cracking with emotion. You clear it and look at him. “It’s personal.”
“Why won’t you answer me?” he asks, his tone shifting from hurt to anger.
“Because it’s none of your business!” You’re trying, you’re trying so hard to keep this plan together. To keep the two of you together.
“What does that mean?”
“It’s complicated.”
“What’s complicated?” Your throat has seemingly closed up. You think if you open your mouth, everything will fall out. But keeping it inside is killing you, both of you. “Y/N, why would you leave your dream job? You love that job—”
“Well maybe I realized I love something more!” The words fall out of your mouth before you can process them. You’re looking at him and your eyes are wide because you don’t know what just happened. Adrian looks slightly taken aback by a legit response, but his curiosity is still infused with frustration.
“What could you possibly love more?”
“YOU, YOU IDIOT!” you yell out because you can’t take it anymore. The room is silent and you’re both slightly out of breath from your yelling match. Neither of you know what to do. You close your eyes and sigh, realizing the game is up. “Shit.”
“What?” he asks in a small voice.
“I chose you,” you say just as quiet, giving him an honest look with your emotions on full display.
“Chose me—what does that mean?” He walks closer to you as the wall seems to crumble from between you. You know there’s no going back.
“Waller found out that we were dating.” When his confusion doesn’t dwindle, you explain further. “She has a very strict no dating between teammates.”
“Oh,” he says and you realize he wasn’t aware of that. “So, that was what your meeting was about?”
“Yeah, she sort of sprung it on me.” Adrian’s right in front of you and you’re nervous to tell him the truth but you’re sick of having secrets between the two of you.
“So, how does this lead to you quitting?” he asks, and the conversation feels soft. You sigh.
“Waller gave me 3 choices as to how to move on,” you say as he eagerly waits for your explanation. “The first was that we break up—”
“Absolutely not,” he says with wide, panicked eyes. You reach out and take his hand, squeezing it. The action seems to calm him down.
“I know,” you say softly. “The second was that I move to Alaska—”
“What? No no, she can’t—”
“Adrian,” you cut off his ramblings. He’s gripping your hand tight, so you bring it up and kiss the back of his. His breathing slows back down. “I didn’t choose that. I’m not leaving you.”
He nods, trying to reassure himself of that thought. “And the third?” he asks with a nervous gaze.
You look away. “The third, is that she fires you from the team.”
“Okay—”
“And she would have you arrested if you tried to contact any of the others.”
“Oh.” He deflates and you know you made the right call.
“But it’s okay, none of those things are going to happen.” You give him a reassuring smile and try to meet his gaze. His eyebrows scrunch together.
“Wait, you quitting wasn’t even an option.” Your smile falters as he looks back at you with sad eyes. “You chose to quit?”
“I told you, I chose you.” He doesn’t seem satisfied with that answer. You reach up and take his face in your hands. “It’s okay. It was my choice. Besides, it was the best option.”
“What if I quit?” he says, moving away.
“No, Adrian you love your job.”
“So do you!” he shoots back. Fair point.
“Besides, I’m pretty sure the rules on arresting you would still apply. Me being unemployed is better than you behind bars.”
That isn’t enough for him. “There has to be another way,” he looks at you as you take his hands in yours. “I’m not letting you quit your job for me.”
“Would you rather I move to Alaska?” you ask, half-joking.
“Fuck no, you know that’s not what I meant.”
“Adrian, there’s no other way,” you say. “I’ve come to terms with it.” There’s a pause in the conversation before you see Adrian’s eyes light up.
“What if we pretend to break up?” he asks, excitedly. You simply stare at him.
“What?”
“Think about it,” he explains. “We tell Waller we broke up, and then we can still work together. It’s perfect.”
“It’s stupid,” you say, confused. “It’ll never work.”
“It’s worth a try.”
“What if we get caught?”
He pauses. “Then we’ll figure it out.” You sigh and he catches your eye. “Please?” His blue eyes are begging you.
“Fine.” He pumps his fist in celebration which makes you smile. “But we have to be careful.”
“We will, we will, this’ll be great!” He grabs your face and kisses your forehead, all while wearing a goofy smile. It makes you happier than you’ve been all week.
“Hey,” you say, and drawing his attention to you. “I love you.”
His eyes soften and so does his smile. “I know.” Your jaw drops and his face looks surprised as you lightly hit him. He runs away giggling and you chase after him.
“How dare you Han Solo me right now!” You catch up to him only for him to catch you in his arms and lift you up. He plants kisses all over your face.
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” he says in between pecks and your playful anger slips away. You slide back down to the ground. Your guilt comes back.
“I’m sorry I lied to you. I hated doing it, I just...thought it was the right thing to do,” you say gnawing on your lip.
“It’s alright, I understand,” he says, pulling your lip away from your teeth. “I probably would’ve done the same. But no more lies, promise?” He offers out his pinky finger.
“I promise,” you say as you wrap your pinky around his. He smiles and you can’t help but pull him down for a kiss. He quickly reciprocates, pulling you close. Your tongues meet, swirling in and out of each other’s mouths. You let your worries melt away as you relax into the kiss. After a few moments, you pull away, biting his lip before releasing it with a smirk. He chases your lips but smiles.
“It’s going to be alright,” he says, reading your thoughts. “We’re going to figure this out together.”
You’re not sure if it was Adrian’s hopeful optimism or the happiness flooding your brain, but you believe him.

“Hey, what're you doing?”
You don't panic. Instead, you drop your sniper from your shoulder quickly, cringing slightly when it hits the concrete of the rooftop. You stand up and twist your body, stepping away from the edge of the rooftop to press a gun up to the masked forehead of your interruptor. It seems he had the same idea, as his gun is firmly pressed against the black leather of your mask before you can even blink.
“Who the fuck are you?” You hiss.
“Who the fuck are you?!”
“I asked first, motherfucker! I swear you better tell me who you are and why the fuck you're here or I won't hesitate to pull the trigger.” You threaten, gripping your gun tighter. Your finger brushes over the trigger. A warning.
“Maybe I won't hesitate either.” He retorts.
“Then. Don't.”
The two of you stare at each other for a few moments. Well, you assume he's staring right back at you, the red visor covering his eyes makes it hard to tell. Eventually, he lets out a quiet sigh, “Fuck. Fine.” He raises his gun-free hand, showing you that he's somewhat surrendered. “You're fuckin’ hardcore.”
“Tell me who you are.” You demand. He may have relented pretty quickly, but he has one last chance to explain who he is before you decide it's not worth the trouble and blow his brains out.
“Vigilante.”
“Vigilante?” You scoff. It has to be the most stupid, on the nose name you've ever heard.
“Yeah.” He shrugs. “My friends call me Vig. But we're not friends, so you can't call me that.”
Yeah, no shit, you think.
“And let me guess, you're a vigilante?” You mock, fighting back the urge to laugh with all of your strength. You feel slightly bad when you notice his shoulders sink. But then you remember that he interrupted your mission, and then you feel slightly less bad about it.
‘Vigilante’ drops the gun from your forehead. “Yeah, and what about it? I bet your name isn't any better!” He sounds genuinely offended.
You return the favour and drop your arm. “Really? Because I don't think it can get any worse than ‘Vigilante’. I mean, that's so uncreative, man. And it's a shame, because I'm actually really digging the suit.”
He visibly tenses, “Oh. You like my suit?” His hands pat at the utility belt sitting on his waist and the coloured stripes on his chest. “I made it myself.” He tells you, sounding almost shy about it. You can hear the smile in his voice, though.
“Yeah. It's really cool, actually. I like the visor. Does it… do anything?”
Vigilante tucks his gun back into his belt, swaying on his heels slightly. “Nah. I mean, I wear glasses so… it's a prescription visor. That's all it does. Helps me see.”
You can't fight off the giggle that escapes from your throat, so you allow it. Just this once. “Your visor is prescription?! Dude, you have to be shitting me.”
He breathes out a laugh, “Yeah. It was a pain in the ass to get a hold of. I almost exposed my secret identity, like, three times.”
You nod, somewhat sympathetic to his situation. “Yeah, I can imagine.” You know all about almost exposing your secret identity. Having multiple black leather masks delivered to your house every month is probably a cause for concern. You're sure your delivery service, and even your neighbours, either think you're a murderer (which isn't exactly untrue) or a dominatrix.
“Uh, your suit is cool, too. It's… fitting. Not in that way, though. I just mean that… It suits you! Not that I would really know since I haven't seen your face and we've only just met. It's also fitting in the other way, just in case you were wondering. It hugs your body just right.” He nods once, an affirmation of his words before he awkwardly folds his arms across his chest. You just stare at him for a few moments.
You're not sure why you're talking to him, or why you're allowing him to overstay his welcome like this (not that you'd given him a warm welcome anyway). Anyone else would have been dead at your feet within minutes if they pulled a gun on you like he did. But Vigilante is… surprisingly charming. There's an awkwardness about him, but the charm is definitely there. Not to mention he's made you laugh. Sure, you were laughing at him more than with him, but it's still a point in his favour.
You shake your head, stopping your own thoughts before they wander any further. You still have a mission to complete. “Well, it's been nice talking to you. I have to, uh… Get back to it.” You tell him, using your thumb to gesture over your shoulder.
“Yeah. Yeah. Cool.” Vigilante nods at you, giving you a thumbs up before nervously scratching at the back of his neck.
“Cool…” You say under your breath. You turn your attention away from him and pick up your sniper, hoisting it back over your shoulder again. You hear no footsteps, but you assume he's gone. Maybe he's just light on his feet.
So, you kneel down at the edge of the rooftop and look through the scope. A wave of relief rushes through your body when you see that the men you had been tailing through Evergreen all night, the bastards who currently have a young woman tied up in the trunk of their car, are still standing outside of the abandoned building across the street. They're still waiting for their contact to arrive. They're still an easy target. If you shot one of them right now, and the other ran, you're confident in your ability to take him down before he could even make it halfway down the street. You take a deep breath to steady yourself and set your sights perfectly, just two seconds away from pulling the trigger. And then—
“So what are we doing?”
You drop your rifle for the second time tonight, your shot once again ruined by fucking Vigilante. When you turn your head, you see him knelt down beside you, observing the scene. Shaking your head incredulously, you scoff, “We are not doing anything. I— Why are you still here?” He's well and truly overstayed his welcome, and you're getting pissed off.
“I don't know. Figured I could help.” He mumbles, shrugging his shoulders casually.
“I don't need your help.” You spit back.
“In my defence, I never said you needed my help. Maybe I just wanna help? I can be your backup. Not— Not that you need backup. I'm sure you can handle it on your own. But those guys look tough— Not that you're not tough, either. I just don't really have anything to do tonight. My buddy’s banging a girl he met at a bar last night and—...”
A harsh sigh from you cuts him off. “Those guys have a woman in the trunk of their car. I don't know who she is, but I can only assume they're planning to sell her or kill her. I found out about their plans earlier tonight from a contact of mine but I couldn't stop them from taking her in time. So I’m stopping them now. Satisfied?” You give him a pointed look.
He nods, and your gaze lingers on him for a moment longer before you go back to looking down the scope, lining up your aim.
“Hey, you never told me your name.”
“Vigilante…” Your voice is low. A warning. This is a race against time and you can't allow yourself to be distracted like this for much longer. If the girl was taken inside, your job would get a whole lot harder. You want to avoid that, if possible.
A quiet, “Sorry.”
Sighing for what feels like the hundredth time, you mumble, “Shadow. You can call me Shadow.”
“Shadow?!” He exclaims suddenly, making you jump slightly. You can only hope he didn't catch that.
“Yeah…?”
“You ripped on me for Vigilante and your name is Shadow?!”
You look over at him, your mouth agape, “Are you kidding me?! Shadow is a fucking cool name! It's simple and effective!”
It's Vigilante’s turn to laugh now, and boy is he rubbing it in. He leans back on his heels, his hands clutching at his stomach. “And let me guess, you're called Shadow because you kill in the shadows?” He mocks, throwing his head back as he laughs.
“Oh, I'll be killing you in the shadows if you don't shut the fuck up.” You threaten. If looks could kill, Vigilante would be dead ten times over. Oh, how you wish looks could kill.
“I just don't understand how you could possibly think that ‘Shadow’ is a cooler name than Vigilante.”
You roll your eyes, glancing back down the scope, “I don't understand why you th– Fuck.”
“What is it?”
The men are gone. The car is, to your relief, still parked up outside of the building. You can only assume the woman is in there with them, and their contact has arrived. Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fucking FUCK. The last thing you wanted was for them to move their business inside.
Your job just got a lot harder.
You stand up quickly (your sniper hitting the ground for the third time), sheathing your knife and pointing it at Vigilante. He lets out an ‘oh fuck’ as he scrambles backwards, away from the knife that's currently a mere ten centimetres away from his face.
“I could fucking kill you. Right here, right now.” You hiss, venom laced into your tone. You're seeing red. It's tempting to just plunge the knife right into his skull.
“Me?! Why me?!” He squeaks out, looking up at you from the ground.
“Because you fucking distracted me! If you weren't here then I could've had this whole thing finished by now!” You want to scream in frustration. This is just one of the many reasons why you always work alone. Why you don't see the point or the appeal in having a partner anymore. Alone, you're completely in control. You don't have to look out for anyone else, and there's less opportunity for distraction. “I should've killed you the minute I saw you, because now I'm paying the price for being nice. I should kill you right now…” You pause, your breathing heavy and angry, nostrils flaring as you curse yourself internally for what you're about to say. “But I won't. Because I could use some help.”
He's silent for a moment, then he carefully asks, “You… You want me to help you?”
You roll your eyes and shove your knife back into its holster, “Yes.”
“Y–You need my help?” He stutters over his words, and if you were in any other situation, you might have found it kind of cute. Unfortunately for both of you, you're not.
“I don't need your help. I can handle myself. What I said is that I could use your help. It'd be useful to me.” You pat your body down quickly, accounting for all of your weapons. Gun number one? Check. Gun number two? Check. Knives? Check. Extra ammo? Check. You'll come back for the sniper. “And if you ask me to repeat myself for a third time, I'm gonna change my mind.” And I might just kick you right off the rooftop.
You don't even give him a chance to ask again, because you're already halfway across the rooftop, making your way to the shaky ladders you climbed to get up there earlier in the night. It's only when you turn your body and carefully place your foot on the top step, hands gripping the rusty bars, that you realise he isn't following you. He's just staring at you from where you left him on the hard concrete. “Well? Are you coming?” You demand a final answer.
“Fuck yeah, I am.” He mumbles, picking up his gun before scrambling to his feet and following you.
You both scale down the ladder, quickly descending until your feet hit the ground. That's when you start to panic, just a little bit. You prefer to be on higher ground, to have some kind of territorial advantage over your targets. It's not that you're bad at ground work, you just like to keep your hands as clean as possible. Literally.
Vigilante joins you on the ground, and the two of you get moving. You make your way around the building you'd been perched on only minutes ago, pressing your body against the wall on the corner when you reach the street, hiding yourselves in the shadows.
It's quiet. Buzzing streetlights and Vigilante’s quiet breathing is the only thing you can hear. Your own racing heartbeat, too. But you want to forget about the anxiety that's burrowed itself into the pit of your stomach. You can see the abandoned building. It's directly across the street from you, and the door is closed. You'll have to find your own way in. A window that you can shimmy through or another door around the back with a lock you can quietly pick at. Then you'll have to figure out how to not cause a commotion. You'll have to be stealthy, making a point to not—
“This kinda feels like a date.” Vigilante’s voice throws you off, ruins your concentration. You take your eyes off of the building and glance up at him with narrowed eyes, brows furrowed under your mask. He continues, “The more I think about it, this kinda is a date.”
“How is this a date?” You ask, bewildered because never in your life would you take rescuing a girl from a group of kidnappers to be a date.
“I don't know. I mean, this whole situation is kinda romantic, if you think about it. It could be classed as a date.” He shrugs.
"Romantic? Really?"
"Yeah. When you pulled the knife on me it was, like, the hottest thing I've ever seen. I honestly thought you were gonna kill me, but you didn't. And now I get to think about that moment forever. That's romance."
Vigilante has stunned you into silence. You can only stare up at him, mouth agape as he looks down at you. You're hoping he'll burst into laughter, and tell you that his warped idea of romance is just a joke. That he's just playing around. But he doesn't, so you just tell him, "This is not a date. I don't even know who you are.”
“Uh, yeah. You do. I’m Vigilante.” He tells you, sounding ever so slightly offended that you might have forgotten his name in the twenty minutes you've known him.
“That's not what I meant. I don't know who you really are. And you don't know who I am.”
Vigilante scoffs, “That's so irrelevant. Our alter-egos know each other and they could totally date. Like in those spy movies. The ones where the main characters hate each other but they're forced to work together under their alter-egos and eventually they fall madly in love.” He lets out a sigh that almost sounds… dreamy. As if he believes that this scenario is going to play out exactly that way.
You're hellbent on telling him otherwise. “This isn't a date. There's gonna be no falling madly in love, or whatever. You ruined my plan, and now you're helping me. And when we're finished here, we go our separate ways. That's the end of this story.”
Unfortunately, you and Vigilante make a pretty good team.
You were so hoping he'd be useless. That you had an excuse to never want to see him again after tonight. But you soon found out that he's smart, strategic. Capable. As soon as the two of you entered the building, he was focused and driven. That quirky persona he had before was no more. Vigilante was more than happy to take the lead for you; he snuck up behind the fuckers who kidnapped the woman and drove his knife into their skulls with precision and an alarming amount of stealth, holding his hand over their mouths until he was sure they weren't breathing anymore.
You didn't mind this arrangement, the less literal blood on your hands, the better.
Eventually, the two of you come to a halt outside of a small room right at the back of the building. You press your ear up against the wooden door, cursing when you hear a male voice coming from inside followed by muffled whimpers and cries.
“She's in there. With the contact.” You whisper to Vigilante. The guys you'd been tailing through Evergreen are already dead, lying in a puddle of their own blood near the entrance. You can only assume the fucker they were planning to sell the girl to is the owner of the voice.
“Want me to go in and fuck him up?” He whispers back.
You think about it for a moment. These guys have been pissing you off all night. You've been through a lot of trouble to save this girl. Of course, you don't mind. If it means she's safe, that's all that matters to you. But you would like to get the final blow. So, you reply, “No. I got this.”
Slowly, you take your knife out of your holster, and before you can even think about talking yourself out of it, you kick the door. It swings open violently, hitting the wall with a loud crash and you're sure you broke at least one of the hinges. Who cares? It's not like the building’s going to be used for anything other than criminal activity.
The man inside lets out a loud and confused ‘what the fuc–', but you move too quickly for him. You kick in his knees before he can even think about turning around or creating his own plan of attack. He's on his knees, wide-eyed and panicked, and you have one arm wrapped around his neck to hold him in place while the other holds your knife, pressing against the tender, stubbly skin of his neck.
He's younger than you expected him to be. When you heard the woman was being sold to a contact, you expected him to be some sick freak in his mid 50s. But no, he's probably younger than you; and given the way he's thrashing around in your hold, he's probably more inexperienced than you.
He's working for someone, and you'll find a way to get it out of him.
The woman is in the corner, watching the scene with wide eyes and muffled screams coming from her duct taped mouth. You give her a slow nod, trying to reassure her that you're not here to kill her. That you're on her side and you will get her out of here. She seems to calm down ever so slightly.
“Oh, fuck. Fuck. Fuck. P–Please don't kill me. I–I’ll do anything. Anything you want. You can have the girl. You can have whatever you want. Money? Do you want money? I–I can pay you! Please I— I have kids.” The man begs, his voice shaking.
“Ew. Why would we want your kids?” Vigilante asks from behind you, and the sudden appearance of a second voice only makes him panic more.
You can't help but roll your eyes at his squirming and pleading. “Why did you take her?” You ask.
“I– I don't know. I don't know anything. I swear!” He tells you.
Of course you don't believe that, so you press your knife against his neck harder, nicking at the skin, making sure you draw some blood. He lets out a sob, and in response Vigilante lets out a quiet laugh. “I don't believe you. Why did you take her?” You ask again.
“I– I don't know. I– I was just told to collect her. I think she– She tried to sell us out. Boss wanted to–”
“Boss?” You ask slowly. So he is working for someone.
“Oh fuck. I'm fucking dead. He's gonna kill me. He's gonna fucking KILL ME.”
Vigilante approaches now, kneeling down in front of the man. He places a hand on his shoulder, a reassuring gesture. “Buddy, no. He's not gonna kill you. You don't have to worry about that.” For a moment you're confused. You didn't take Vigilante to be the sympathetic type. But then he says, “Because we're gonna kill you first.”
Ah. That makes more sense.
“Who are you working for?” You tighten your grip on his neck, your knife pressing into his skin harder. If you have to kill him before you find anything out, you will; you'd just prefer to get at least something from him. He stays quiet, only whimpering and sobbing quietly to himself. “Look, you're as good as dead anyway. You might as well tell me which asshole you're working for.”
A moment more of silence. You're just about to drag your knife across his throat when he shouts, “Scorpion! I'm working for Scorpion! The girl– She– The girl was gonna sell us out! She has information on us– I don't– I don't know how she got it! Fuck, I don't even know who she is!”
“Fuck.” You hiss. Of course it's Scorpion.
“Scorpion? Who the fuck is Scorpion?” Vigilante asks, glancing up at you.
You just shake your head and screw your eyes shut, slashing at the man’s throat quickly. It's a deep cut, and the blood flows from the wound like a waterfall. He lets out a strangled yell, gurgling and choking on his own blood before you push his body to the floor. He stills after a few moments.
“Check the body.” You tell Vigilante, and he obliges, reaching into the pockets of the man you just killed. You make your way over to the woman quickly, shoving your knife back into its holster.
She panics as you approach her, pressing her back against the wall. She whimpers and writhes in her restraints, and you can't blame her. If you were a witness to what she just saw, you'd probably be afraid of yourself too. But you kneel down in front of her, and tell her gently, “You're gonna be okay. You're safe now.” You take out your pocket knife slowly, and her eyes widen. “I'm just gonna use this to cut your restraints, okay? Then we’ll get you out of here.”
She seems to calm down a little, and you take the opportunity to cut the duct tape around her mouth, peeling it carefully until she takes a deep, frantic breath through her mouth.
“Hey, Shadow?” Vigilante calls from behind you, and you glance over your shoulder at him as he stands over the body, inspecting the wallet he found. “This guy’s name was Robert Robertson. How fucking lame is that? You know, I think we did him a favour. Who wants to live with a name like Robert Robertson?”
“Oh, his parents hated him.”
You go back to cutting the rope restraints around the her wrists and ankles as she watches you, breathing shakily everytime the metal brushes against her skin. You offer her quiet apologies. Eventually, she's free, and you stand up, offering her a hand.
She doesn't take it. Instead, she asks you in a small, scared voice, “You're not gonna kill me, right?”
“No. Of course not.” You reassure her.
She's not convinced by your words. She looks at you with pleading eyes, and then her gaze flicks behind you, prompting you to turn around. You see Vigilante standing just a few metres away from you, flipping his knife in the air and catching it. You scoff, “Dude, can you put that thing away? You're freaking her out.”
“Sorry.” He mumbled, tucking his knife back into its holster, kicking his feet like a scolded puppy dog.
“We're not gonna kill you. I promise.” You tell her, offering your hand again. This time, she takes it, allowing you to pull her up to her feet. She stumbles almost instantly in her exhaustion, every muscle in her body aching and sore; you catch her, calling out to Vigilante.
He picks her up, and the three of you make your way out of the building and into the street.
It doesn't take long for your contact, Erica, to arrive. The woman is reluctant to leave you, insisting that you should come with her for protection. It takes around ten minutes for you to convince her that she'll be safe without you; that you trust Erica and she'll be taken somewhere safe.
You wave her off, and not long after you find yourself back on the rooftop with Vigilante.
“So… Scorpion. Who's that?” He asks, sitting down beside you as you pack your rifle and other miscellaneous weapons into your grey duffel bag.
“How long have you been doing… this? Like, how long have you been Vigilante?”
He shrugs, “Maybe five or six years.”
“And you've never had any run-ins with Scorpion or his men?” You ask, and he shakes his head in response. Lucky bastard. “He runs the biggest underground black market for illegal weapons in Washington. He chose Evergreen as his base for operations because it's relatively quiet. I mean, who would expect something like that to be happening here? He's been on my radar for… a while. And I’m on his.”
“You've met him?”
You take a deep breath, a few moments decide your course of action. You could tell the truth, or you could lie. Lying seems like to be the most appealing option. "No. I haven't met him. But I've made sure to be a pain in his ass, for sure. He probably knows about me."
You stand up and sling your bag over your shoulder before he can respond, making it clear that you're not interested in carrying on this conversation. You barely know him, and you don't feel it's necessary to reveal everything to him. “Anyway. Thanks for tonight. For helping me out. Even though it was kinda your fault that I needed help. It was… fun. I guess.” Fun? Did you seriously just say that?”
“Yeah. Sorry about that.” He apologises, sheepish. "I had fun too. Just in case you were wondering."
A silence falls over the two of you, allowing some time for you to collect your thoughts. You meant it when you said that it'd be fun, and that freaks you out. It's been a while since you've spent time with anyone outside of your workplace. Having friends means having baggage, something that others can use as leverage; that's something you can't really afford to have.
“So… Is there any way that I could, like… contact you?” He asks, kicking his leg back and forth nervously, his shoe scuffing against the concrete.
“You… You want to contact me?”
Vigilante shrugs, “Yeah. I don't know about you, but I think we made a pretty good team. Unless you disagree. Then I think it was awful and we should go our separate ways and never do it again.”
“N-no. I think… Yeah. I agree.” You stutter. You fucking STUTTERED. How dare your voice betray you like this? You want to grab your own shoulders and shake yourself. Scream ‘THIS ISN’T YOU’. You've proven to yourself time and time again that you're ruthless. That you don't need anyone's help, or anyone to look out for you. Yet here you are, agreeing that you and Vigilante did make a pretty awesome team, and that maybe you'd be open to meeting with him again. What the fuck is wrong with you? You're truly fucked.
Still, you pull out your burner phone and hand it over to Vigilante, “You can just… y’know, put your number into there.”
So he does just that, handing your phone back to you. “So, you'll text me? Or.. call me? Whichever you prefer. I know some people prefer to text because it's less pressure–...”
“I'll text you.” You assure him, giving him a quick nod before making your way to the ladders, wondering what the fuck just happened and when you'd decided to start being friendly with random Vigilante’s. Especially Vigilante’s that are literally called Vigilante.
You still think it's a dumb name, but that does nothing to wipe the stupid grin off your lips as you make your way home.
