In a supermarket with The Banana Splits, on their redemption road trip essentially, in the hot dog/sausage section even:
DROOPER, somewhat bewildered by the selection of sausage such as they'd like to grill up for a nice change of pace from hot dogs: Just when you thought hot dogs weren't getting any better, you've got all this sausage available for grilling!
BINGO, approaching the case and finding out more: Uh, let's see--smoked sausage, Polish sausage, chicken sausage, turkey smoked sausage, bratwurst, mettwurst, knockwurst, Italian sausage, Cajun andouille sausage, Swedish potato sausage--
DROOPER, stunned by that last one: "Swedish Potato Sausage"?!!
FLEEGLE: Now that's a new one on me--still, at any rate, how about we try this Polish sausage on the grill?
SNORKY: [Excited honking]
DROOPER, interpreting: Snorky was just admitting there that there Polish sausage might be something interesting to try there.
BINGO: So what are we waiting for?
[The rest can be assumed by you, dearest reader]

At it again, from another angle this time.
‘Old’ weapons. Or at least redundant, as a species traverses into space the new technology makes an old gun or even older sword/arrow/spear and so on useless and nearly powerless. The new weapons are ‘ray this’ and ‘beam that’ ‘plasma so and so’ .
Ofcourse this makes sense, the energy based weapons are far less wasteful and lighter, easier to carry and easier to handle. No need to sharpen weapons with a plasma blade and even then, why use close quarters weapons if you have access to stun, kill or poison rays and many more.
On top of that many civilisations prefer to forget their less then stellar past and make analog weapons obsolete. When the humans joined the council many expected them to do the same. They didn’t, production stopped yes, but interested people could still partake in lessons and the old fashioned ways were shown off in museums. Training to be part of a spaceship crew still included lessons in their old weapons as an opportunity to be prepared for going to “newer” worlds.
So with that in mind i have a few little vignettes ideas and for ease’ sake its gonna be on the same ship, the Serpentine.
Important crew:
Primoz, captain -Limoyh a four armed species-
Krag, second in command (brother of Primoz)
Kit, dokter -avian, bird like, she has feathers like a swallow-
Ortez, ASR (all species resources, human resources in space) -kiltak, insectoid species, think ants but exoskeleton-
Lugea, helmsperson (does the steering) -rock like alien-
Artex, engineer/mechanic 1 -also Kiltak-
And then our humans:
Kamari, navigator -Eritrean woman- (has cat named Sidra)
Markus, weapons expert (knows how to use them and upkeep, also shields) -Swedish man-
Petrus, mechanic/engineer 2 -Italian man-
Lilly, administrator/note keeper (learns languages for fun)-english woman-
Yes i know all of this could have also been accomplished by saying they are all from America… nope this is more fun. This is under the assumption that to get into the joint academy for space faring you need to be able to speak and write English.
Obviously there are more people on the ship but these are most important
~~~~~~~~
1. Sparring
Ortez was having a good day, the serpentine had left port and was making good progress toward their next destination on w-kl-18, referred to as deltax by it’s residents, for a routine drop off.
In port on Unity (the planet where the council resides and the universal court is) they picked up the final crew members among who a ‘team’ of humans. Pre bonded humans were supposed to be less chaos inducing and easier bonded with the rest of the crew. Ortez was rather happy the captain listened to him on this matter.
The humans had been more diverse than he expected and were currently what they called ‘settling in’. He was on his way to the rooms they had.
‘Stop it please we’ve been here less than 4 hours!’ The soft voice he recognises as Lilly’s is barely audible over the loud clanging sounds. Rounding the corner Ortez sees a terrifying scene. The two human males locked together with two sticks made of metal baring teeth at each other, with a push the olive skinned man, he remembers is called Petrus, breaks the hold and goes in low swiping at the tall mans legs making Markus fall over.
Ortez is about to intervene when without a sound the dark skinned leader of the group seemingly appears without a sound behind him and runs into the fray with a similar stick.
Whacking Petrus stick away from Markus’ throat she steps inbetween “stop it. You’re scaring our ASR. We want to make a good impression remember.” The men look right at him and both put down the sticks, Markus puts his hand up in a ‘wave’ “sorry about that, Ortez it was right? We were just sparring.’ Moving further into the room he uncurls his front two claws tapping at the metal poles “sparring with this? We usually only do body to body training, this seems rather old.” Petrus speaks up to that “ah yes those are old earth weapons, we like keeping up a bit of skill with several kinds as a side activity. Don’t worry tho, we train with blunt weapons.”
Not entirely appeased the insectoid looks to the imposing woman, who seems entirely at ease even though two people had been fighting. When she caught his eyes, she smiled that terrible toothy grin “truly don’t worry, like Petrus said they are blunt and it is a way for us to let of some steam and keep in shape. But next time we’ll do it in the training rooms… right boys?” Pinning the two men with withering stares they nodded quickly.
Ortez did not know humans released steam, but he felt right now was not the moment to go into that. Saying his goodbye he skittered to inform the captain.
This was bound to be interesting.
~~~~~~~~~~~
2. “The Roman empire”
“So you are telling me that at any given moment you could be thinking about a several thousand years old society that no longer exists and it would surprise nobody?” Artex was perplexed, when he and Petrus were working on the reactor core Lilly had wandered through and mentioned this old civilisation sparking heated debate. She thought the greeks were far more interesting but Petrus had been unmoved by her arguments. The other man speaks while pushing some buttons “well yea, the empire made great strides and amazing structures, Lilly just prefers the mythos of the greek while i enjoy the focus on millitary prowess.” Shrugging he looks up “don’t you guys have something like that?” Artex stretches his legs, all 6 of them in a wave like motion “not really, when change happened the history books were changed to make it seem like it was always that way” the human makes eye contact “wait so how do you know how to play -old civilisation- as a kid? We play fought with wooden sticks, wooden swords and branches we cut to look like guns…” that horrofied the insectoid, raised with violence like it was a normal thing.
Almost like they never left their dark ages
~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. Whats in a name (bit off topic but the idea just kinda happened)
Te very first time the humans were introduced to their new crew there was a bit of a hiccup. When Kamari introduced herself they looked up a bit confused but went further down the row. After Lilly they came back around and referred to Kamari as moon. Now Kamari recognised the strange look, they had translators that only had basic human translation, which means that her name “Kamari” which comes from Arabic and is a word for moon/soft glow of the moon, is translated fully but not as name so when they speak to her it translates out of their language to English which would be moon. This is luckily easily fixed with an update, but it was something that stil spoke of how new the human race was to the cosmos.
Her cat Sidra made them laugh as that means Star so she was the moon with her star.
(Random thought about how multiple human languages could screw with translations)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Soooooo kinda had a 4th story that is pretty sad but also bad ass, but this is getting too long already
Imma write that in a new post over the coming days
Hopefully people like this, if you have prompts you’d like to see with this crew feel free to ask.

Rook Ballet Headcanons!
Tumblr media
Now that we know Rook has CANONICALLY started taking ballet lessons, these are some thoughts I have as to some of his possible preferences with it! While I know that he's still learning the basics, if he were to continue further, he would probably get quite good!
He already has some of the necessary core and upper-body strength for ballet, and I'm sure that the cardio aspect wouldn't be a huge challenge for him, either. However, he stated in his Platinum Jacket vignette that he has struggled some with balance and ankle stability, so for the most part, he would be primarily working to strengthen his leg muscles - specifically those of the hip, thigh, and ankle - and increasing overall flexibility. With that work, in combination with the poise and grace he already has in his movements, he could become a fantastic danseur!
Now, for his preferences...
To begin, his uniform: I see Rook as likely preferring tights rather than shorts, and a leotard rather than a shirt. He'd also likely choose a cap or short sleeve over a tank, at least for the most part. and he seems as if he'd be quite drawn to a zip-front (or high-neck) leotard.
He'd also prefer grey canvas ballet slippers, grey tights, and a white leotard, though there's a chance he'd wear black slippers and tights instead.
For reference, Rook's preferred dancewear would be somewhat like this:
Tumblr media
or perhaps this:
Tumblr media
He'd also need to tie his hair back, of course, as he does for P.E., Beanfest, etc. (It would be wise for him to pin back the loose strands, too... though chances are, he wouldn't do that, except for recitals.)
Tumblr media
Now, for the steps, I've added in some video examples, in case you aren't familiar with ballet terminology.
I'll begin with what Rook may struggle with, at least at first. Based on his main problem areas (ankle stability and balance), any sort of step which involves being en relevé ("on rise" on ones' toes) would be somewhat difficult, as well as some centre work. Grand pliés and développés in the centre would likely be hard for him when he first begins, until he has toned the proper muscles. And for a similar reason, he may struggle with turns, especially fouettés, pirouettes, and chaînés. Rook may dislike chaînés especially, as even with proper spotting technique, they can be quite disorienting.
However, he'd LOVE things like cabrioles, Italian pas de chat (in this video, alternating with glissés), saut de Basque, jeté en tournant, tour jeté, and similar steps. They each have a certain... sensation about them; when performed, these steps give a feeling of almost soaring through the air. He'd find them to be beautiful, and powerful to both perform and watch.
Rook would also adore the fluidity of pas de valse / balancé, and have a lot of fun with exercises which feature them!
he'd also love dancing any sort of pas de deux, even if he didn't have much chance to do it. being able to feel the interplay and balance between him and his partner, and build that sense of trust would be fantastically beautiful to him, possibly even more than watching a pas de deux.
There are likely a number of other steps and various variations (perhaps the Coppélia Act I Franz variation, for example?) which Rook would find to be enjoyable during his time taking ballet. And - should he continue with dance - Rook may just find another form of art he falls in love with!

Killer of Sheep (Charles Burnett, 1978) X “Auditorium” (Mos Def & Madlib, 2009)
A landmark in black cinema that was rarely seen mixed with an all-time great hip hop track that is now stuck in streaming purgatory over label disputes. This film was a labor of love by Charles Burnett who wrote, directed, shot, and edited this film, which unfolds like a Los Angeles version of Italian neo-realism with vignettes that show multiple generations of regular everyday life with the affects of poverty and “urban renewal.” The Madlib-produced Mos Def track from The Ecstatic, is a natural pairing as the album’s cover is taken from the roof-jumping kids in the film.

Can I just say that I think it's very fitting that (if the boys who weren't a part of glorious masquerade are going to be featured in the event teased) Ace is the one who would go to Pleasure Island. Like I don't know why but I feel like that's just pretty in character for him.
[Referencing this post!]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just a slight clarification: Pleasure Island hasn’t been confirmed yet!! At present, it’s just popular fan speculation (one that I think is very probably myself).
I think it’s definitely a place that fits with Ace. He’s expressed in vignettes that he just wants to chill and doesn’t have any particular ambitions for the future. He just overall also has a pretty carefree, “I speak my mind” and juvenile attitude expected of his age. Man just wants to live in the moment, y’know? Ace would thrive in place that promotes just throwing caution to the wind and to just have fun! (Ironically, Rollo, the central new character from Glorious Masquerade/the previous Halloween event, would probably find Pleasure Island appalling—and even moreso if it encourages its patrons to indulge in magic, especially for very frivolous things like amusement. Yes, I’m still huffing my copium and praying he makes a cameo or a grand return 😭)
If we think about the Trappola family itself, there’s even more connections there that make sense. Sticking Ace in a Pleasure Island-like location works well considering that his brother interned at a theme park and currently works in that same industry. Maybe Ace’s brother works at twisted Pleasure Island? Additionally, Ace’s whole deal with doing card tricks (something he shares with his magicless father) slots in well with the whimsy that comes with a fair or carnival-like place. Even the family surname, Trappola, means “trap” in Italian… and the story of Pinocchio IS of Italian origin. That’s not even to mention that Pleasure Island is one massive trap 😂
… With all of those connections, maybe Ace will be one of the new Halloween SSRs? Y’know… cuz he’s an ASS? 🤡

so the other day i was proposing this idea for an awesome movie franchise where its basically a riff on Final Destination but its just scenes of billionaires dying in these overly complicated and ultimately brutal kill sequences. There doesnt even need to a plot tying these vignettes together. Just consecutive scenes filmed like some goddamn Succession episode with drones and italian villas and balenciagas and shit and billionaires just getting some sick ass bloody Argento/Fulci style decapitations and eyeball gouging. Maybe you write in a plot with a detective or a psychic or a babysitter...i dont know, im still working on that part of the story.
And i shit you not, not less than 24 hours later some rich billionaire lady done drives her fancy billionaire gadget car into a motherfucking pond and glug glugs to death cuz she cant open the car door.
Tell me this is not entertaining as fuck.

Have you read any of John Darnielle's books? What you think?
i love wolf in white van, it's one of my favourite books of all time. it's an incredible piece of writing, it's some of the most affecting shit i've ever read. the prose is john darnielle at his absolute best, just page after page of haunting and vivid imagery. i wish trace italian was real so i could play it. in a lot of ways i think it's really prescient. master of reality is also v. v. v. good. both of them convey a really really vital and urgent and powerful sense of... emotional darkness, malice, aimless ambient emotional violence, an ambiently suffocating cloud of toxicity--that really really resonates with me because of some of my personal experiences.
i was much more ambivalent about universal harvester. darnielle's prose on the moment-to-moment is just as good as it is in wolf in white van but the overall structure of the book feels aimless. which i know is a weird thing to say when wiwv and mar don't have any real plot and i love them--but they're vividly detailed character studies that situate us entirely within someone's heart. which is what darnielle is best at in his music, too, so it makes sense that works. universal harvester feels more like a bunch of vignettes. i understand what the ending was going for but the execution was botched--it didn't feel like a disappointing ending that illustrated that the world is full of banal mystery or anything. it just felt like a lame ending.
i haven't read devil house but i've heard good things!

An obscure and little-known series outside of Italy (the series is thus far only referenced in Wikipedia), Giallo (“Yellow”) was a weekly half-hour show edited and presented by Enzo Tortora, for which Dario Argento directed a series of 3-minute thriller and horror vignettes shot on film (which provoked some conservative audience members to protest Argento's decision to stick with his gory, unsettling imagery). "Gli incubi di Dario Argento" (The Nightmares of Dario Argento) is a collection of short horror vignettes (about 3 minutes each) directed by Dario Argento. The following episodes are included:
La finestra sul cortile (The rear window) (00:00:00 - 00:03:50) A guy tries to stop the murderer he saw from his window.
Il verme (The Worm) (00:03:50 - 00:06:55) A woman is terrorized by a spreading disease involving flesh eating worms.
Amare e morire (Love and die) (00:06:55 - 00:09:38) A woman wants to discover who raped her by making love to him.
La strega (The Witch) (00:09:38 - 00:12:52) A birthday party turns into a nightmarish game.
Addormentarsi (Going to sleep) (00:12:52 - 00:14:14) The shadows on the ceiling disturb a man who is trying to go to sleep.
Sammy (00:14:14 - 00:16:32) A young girl hears someone inside the house on Christmas Eve: what could it be?
L'incubo di chi voleva interpretare “l'incubo” di Dario Argento (The Nightmare of the boy who wanted to be in "The nightmares of Dario Argento") (00:16:32 - 00:20:58) A young boy wants to be in Dario's transmission, but something goes wrong. The rest of the video is a collage of various documentaries about Dario Argento, where he talks about various parts of his career in cinema:
The making of Suspiria (00:20:58 - 00:41:10) A short interview where Dario talks about what cinema means to him, shows the mixing phase of his film "Suspiria" and talks about why his vocation is to scare people.
Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci (00:41:10 - 00:50:40) Another short interview where he talks about his relationship with the italian horror and giallo director Lucio Fulci and their years together before his death.
The special effects of Dario Argento (00:50:40 - 01:19:45) A series of short episodes where Dario explains how he made some of the special effects on his movies and talks about the most difficult scenes he had to direct.
Dario Argento's interview in "Mezzanotte e dintorni" (01:19:45 - 01:48:38) An half an hour interview where Dario talks about his personal life and his director's life.

Fernando Campana (1961 – 2022)
Born in the rural town of Brotas, the São Paolo-based designer earned a degree in architecture from the Faculdade de Belas Artes de São Paolo in 1984, before creating Estudio Campana that same year with his older brother Humberto, an attorney.
During the 1980s the studio produced a series of sculptural metal chairs welded from iron called Desconfortáveis (Uncomfortables), eventually moving toward a practice using everyday materials like cardboard, rope, wicker, bamboo, and wood.  Their iconic Favela Chair, from 1991 was fabricated with scraps of wood from discarded fruit crates, nailed and glued by hand. “The people who live in favelas construct their own homes, so I thought, why not construct a chair myself,” said Fernando in a discussion about the seat with curator Darrin Alfred from a 2010 interview. It was, he explained at the time, meant to symbolize a Brazilian shantytown.
It was in the 1990s—a time when the design world was primarily focused on the post-World War II movement of the Italians—that the Campanas came on the scene, with work that underscored Brazilian culture and its craft, sculpting furnishings from a range of raw and found materials. Their 1993 Vermelha Chair was a lesson in resourcefulness, hand-woven from cotton rope that enveloped a metal frame.
Design journalist Arlene Hirst was “gobsmacked” when she first encountered the chair, manufactured by Italian manufacturer Edra, at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. A year later the chair was included in Project 66: Campana Brothers/Ingo Maurer, a 1998 exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), curated by Paola Antonelli, the museum’s senior curator of architecture and design, an associate at the time. For this show, Antonelli paired the Brazilian brothers’ furniture with German lighting designer Ingo Maurer’s luminaires in vignettes that highlighted a shared passion for materiality and invention.
Both Fernando and Humberto were active in the production process as well, but as is often the case with partners, they remained elusive about specific roles. “Fernando had the training, so he was the more pragmatic one,” noted Antonelli in a recent interview, referring to his architectural roots. “He never discussed it. And I never questioned it. It was implied,” she said. The younger Campana also drew inspiration from his daily routines, local markets and wandering São Paolo’s streets. Antonelli recalled asking him about his use of found objects, asking if they weren’t too cute? His response, “They are not too cute. They are part of my life.”
Many of those found objects—including stuffed animals—made their way onto upholstered seating like the 2002 Banquete series, which became the equivalent of a sold-out Broadway show. It is still produced out of the Campana São Paolo studio, and handsewn by local craftspeople who are considered part of the extended Campana family.
In 2010 the New York- and L.A.-based gallery Friedman Benda began global representation of the brother’s work. “Campana Studio brought a completely fresh perspective, creating a dialogue with local crafts and the use of the readymade,” says co-founder Marc Benda, adding, “They were trailblazers.” The gallery assisted with support of the studio and helped them to balance the commercial success of their practice with its roots in the hand made.
One of the brothers’ last collaborations—presented in June at the 2022 Salone in Milan—is a collection called Metamorfosi, comprising five large-scale, pouf seats and a tapestry, created in collaboration with Italian textile designer Paola Lenti. Woven from remnants Lenti sorted and saved with CouLture Migrante, a social tailoring atelier (involving men and women asylum seekers residing in Como, Italy) the limited-edition pieces make their North American debut at Design Miami in December.
The work of Estudio Campana can be found at the Vitra Design Museum, Centre Pompidou, Musée Des Arts Décoratifs, MoMA, among other design-focused institutions. In 2020, they were the subject of 35 Revolutions, a retrospective at Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro on the occasion of their 35th anniversary.

My favourite short Good Omens fics of 2022
I love a good fic rec round-up post, and I've read quite a few excellent stories this year. So here are just some of my favourite Good Omens fics under 10k words that have been completed in 2022:
Bi M' Aingeal (Be My Angel) by IneffableToreshi T, 4905 words. Human AU. A very sweet meet-cute with folk musician Crowley and audience member Aziraphale, at which they bond over their shared knowledge of Scottish Gaelic.
Still, a great deal of light falls on everything by caricari M, 8660 words. Melancholic canon-compliant fic (I know!) set in 1970's New York. An angel and a demon meet, have a conversation full of longing and loss. Beautiful and sad.
Small Cock Appreciation Society by cheerios_and_wine E, 6471 words. Human AU. A very gentle character study masquerading as smut. Aziraphale's small equipment turns out to be just what Crowley is after. Both hot and tender.
Tidewrack by TawnyOwl95 E, 6706 words. Human AU. The hilarious, kinky adventures of Crowley the pirate and a freshly captured Aziraphale. Yes, it goes exactly how you expect... or does it? Hot, funny, and very clever.
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant by journeytogallifrey T, 7004 words. Human AU set in 1980's New York, the story of two people reconnecting in the same place, told in a series of beautiful vignettes. Melancholic with a happy ending.
Au hasard Aziraphale by GiggleSnortBangDead T, 6001 words. Fun Human AU in which Aziraphale gets kidnapped... but finds himself not unhappy with his new situation. Roadtrip fic with a bit of a difference.
Entre Nous by snae_b E, 4219 words. Human AU inspired by TV cooking competitions. Crowley and Aziraphale meet in front of the camera, but catch up in a whole different way after recording. Delicious in every sense of the word.
