Because everything is so busted my Facebook page is basically all algorithm stuff with the occasional post from my few friends/relatives still on there. I keep getting a lot of X-Men stuff at the moment due to X-Men 97 airing and obviously some of my browsing...and it's amazing the difference between Facebook and here. Because on here if you go into the X-Men tags atm there's quite a bit of Magneto lust going on, I mean there always was - but the X-Men 97 version is having a moment! Whereas under posts on Facebook there's a lot of men (who I am going to assume are heterosexual) getting really mad at this phenomenon. "He looks old/like an old woman/he killed people" etc.
It's giving me (mostly bad) nostalgia for around a decade ago when a lot of dudes in the MCU fandom took it really personally that the girls (and I would guess many gays/theys too) were ignoring Thor and going after Loki. Some things never change.

Story Prompt 88
Two figures stood on opposite ends of a dimly lit alley. One, draped in shadows, spoke with a voice as smooth as silk, "Sweetheart, without the bad guys, the good ones wouldn't shine half as bright. We carve our path while the heroes scramble to change it."
The other, illuminated by the faint glow of a nearby streetlamp, scoffed, "You always see things in black and white, don't you? But heroes aren't just trying to change the future; they're trying to make it better."
The first figure chuckled softly, a sound as sinister as the whisper of the wind through the narrow alley. "Ah, my dear, but better is subjective, isn't it? What's good for you might be poison to someone else. Heroes paint their vision of utopia with broad strokes, while we, my love, we add the intricate details that make it interesting."
A sly grin played across the lips of the second figure. "Interesting, yes. But at what cost? Your vision of the future seems to involve chaos and suffering."
The first figure stepped closer, the darkness seeming to cling to them like a lover's embrace. "Chaos breeds change, darling. And from change comes growth. Without villains to challenge them, heroes would stagnate in their righteousness."
The second figure shook their head, a glimmer of determination in their eyes. "Maybe so. But I'll take my chances on the side of those striving for a better world, even if it means facing off against the likes of you."

Seemingly because of the fandom reaction to characters like Daemon Targaryen and Halbrand!Sauron this insidious, nasty shaming of people (women) who unashamedly love these anti-heroes/villains is rearing its ugly head again. I'm seeing it creep into comments on Twitter, Reddit etc. and even insinuated by the showrunner in interviews. I just fucking hate the general shitting on and moral, puritan judgement of fans (again, often just misogyny towards female fans) that openly love and enjoy male villains. Look, I love a redemption arc as much as the next person but not all characters are going to 'turn good' and we can love them anyway. We can fucking love and enjoy a villain, celebrate them, fantasise about them, ship them with other characters and feel however the fuck we want about them. We know what they are and we enjoy them precisely because of that. It's fucking fiction, stop policing the fuck out of us.

My favourite thing about Alastor is his hoard of gal pals!
He’s just a cool and charming dude that women feel comfortable around…And is also a power hungry eldritch horror.👌👌👌

I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."
I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.
Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.
Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.

Story Prompt 57
A figure lurked in the dim light, its silhouette shrouded in mystery. This figure was no hero; rather, it embraced the darkness, reveling in the power it wielded over those who dared to cross its path.
One fateful evening, as the moon cast its soft glow upon the landscape, the figure found itself drawn to a reflective surface—a mirror. Peering into its depths, the figure beheld a visage so captivating, it was as if time itself had stopped to admire its beauty.
"You are magnificent," the figure murmured, tracing the contours of its reflection with delicate fingers.
The figure became enamored with its own image, spending hours lost in the depths of the mirror, entranced by the allure of its own gaze.
As days turned into weeks, the figure's obsession grew, consuming its every waking moment. It spoke to its reflection as though it were a lover, whispering sweet nothings and professing undying devotion.
"You are the embodiment of perfection," the figure declared, its voice tinged with longing.
But as the figure's love for itself blossomed, so too did a darkness within. It became possessive, unable to bear the thought of sharing its beloved reflection with anyone else.
